From the Highlands of Scotland is a talented new artist on the rise. Connor Johnston is gaining a lot of traction in his hometown of Inverness, and he has been performing at multiple well recognized Scottish festivals and pubs. He’s been writing, singing, and producing his own music since the earliest days he can remember. His area of specialty is pop/folk pop, but he enjoys exploring various genres. Connor decided to take his passion and commitment to music to the next level, and he is now studying at The Riverside Music Complex in Glasgow. I’m a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland. I’ve been self-teaching myself everything I know about music since 2014 and I love it! From first picking up an old acoustic guitar, I ended up playing at one of my local festivals “Jocktoberfest” in under a year! From there I got asked to play at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival a further two times, joined “The Howl and the Hum” on their Scotland tour, played at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow and released an EP that I produced entirely myself. This year was a little different as I’ve started living and studying music in Glasgow at the Riverside Music College which is where I recorded my brand new single “The Song I Wrote That Day”. Can you tell us about the meaning behind the lyrics in “The Song I Wrote That Day”? I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t a sad song even from the first listen, but I think that’s why I called it what I did. I wrote this song in early 2018 and because it was completely open in terms of my emotions at the time and I sort of locked it away not expecting to use it for commercial release. I remember wanting to be as honest as I could be – I think that’s actually a lyric in the song – and I think with my mindset from back then, honesty meant extremely depressing. But that can sometimes make a good song and I guess you’d have to listen to it to see if that’s true! What makes this song different from all of the other ones that you’ve released? This was the first song that I’ve released that I worked with others to get to the final product. My two friends from college,Connor Jamieson and Frazer helped me with bass guitar and drums respectively. Connor (good name, I know) also composed the guitar solo you hear in the bridge section. It gave me good experience to work with other people rather than produce everything by myself. Another reason this song is perhaps different than the rest is, again, in the lyrics. Most of my songs up until now have had hidden meanings and purposely vague lyrics so people can interpret them they way they want so to put myself out there like this was extremely scary but I’m hoping it’ll pay off! Who are your biggest musical influences and why? Probably my biggest influence just now is Jon Bellion. I’ve been a fan of his music for many years and one of the things that kind of created a connection in my head was his videos on how he makes his songs. I saw a lot of similarities in the way I would write and/or produce in that I feel he has the song already finished in his head and it’s a case of putting the pieces together in the studio. I’m much the same when writing in that I can hear guitar parts, basslines and other components before I’ve even finished writing the song. Another one of my influences is the mighty Ed Sheeran. There seems to be a theme with me listening to artists before they hit it mainstream but I remember watching that video of him sitting on a boat performing his, now classic, song “The A Team” and thinking the way he wrote that song was completely original and different to anything I grew up listening to or heard on the radio. Ever since then I’ve been a fan of most of Ed’s songs as he has a notable way of writing songs that I think has rubbed off on me. Can we expect some new music from you in 2019? Hopefully yes! My first year of studying is (sadly) coming to a close so I’ll be returning back up the road to the Highlands over the Summer but when I get away from my job I’ll be writing and recording all sorts of new content! I have several songs in my catalogue that are patiently queuing up for some studio time, but if I feel I’ve written something better, I’ll get to working on that. If everything goes as smoothly as I hope it can, I can guess new music will be arriving in early August! Andres Antonio Ruano (known as A-Dre), is an artist based in Calgary that is making some serious rumble within the Latin electro pop community. A-Dre has an incredible success story, singing since he was young, building up his music and name, and finally getting noticed! A-Dre has performed alongside incredible artists, sharing famous stages and tracks with some of the greatest in Latin pop. At a pinnacle of A-Dre’s career, he was nominated for the “Best New Artist” award for the Latin Canada Awards 2017. Hello A-Dre! Please introduce yourself to our readers here at BuzzMusic! Hey! Alright, im Andres Ruano and i go by A-Dre. I am a LatinPop and Pop artist from Calgary,Canada with Salvadorean roots. How did you know that music was your passion? At what age did you realize you wanted to pursue it as a career? I was always listening to music and i loved to sing! I thought i was so cool with my Walkman haha. I used to play the piano so i guess you could say thats where it all started. I was about 17 -18 when I recorded my first song, when I saw people dancing to it and enjoying it i fell in love with that feeling of knowing I can make people dance to my music, so I became a little obsessed with it so i continued to write and make music. When i saw it picking up and gaining traction with every song i released i definitely started to pursue a music career out of it. Since then Its been an amazing journey watching my music evolve. What kind of vision did you have for your latest single “Tell Me” while in the midst of curating it? I wanted to do something different from what I usually do which has been reggaeton and Latin Pop. That's where my producer Bryan and i started mixing future bass/dubstep style into the picture to show a different side of me. I guess you could say versatility played a big factor. I wanted to show that i can be versatile as an artist. "Tell Me" was definitely from a personal experience I felt like when it comes to creating music on a personal level you can really connect with your listeners so my vision was definitely to put out a project where people can listen to it and relate. At some point in someone's life they've gone through the same situation as you see in the video. Who would you say are your top three musical inspirations? This has always been a tough question haha. I would definitely say Justin Timberlake is one of them I was a huge NSYNC fan growing up i was always listening to them and the Backstreet Boys, that's where the singing came in lol. Another musical inspiration would also be Daddy Yankee, the way he opened up the doors for reggaeton definitely gives you a boost of confidence knowing that Latin music is at its peak at the moment and of course people love to dance to it even if they don't understand what's being said, people just enjoy it. Really it was all the different styles of genres, English and Spanish that my parents would listen to growing up also influenced me. I love that there is no borders. Music is what you make it to be. We know “In My Head” is right around the corner for summer! How excited are you to share this new song with your listeners? How long have you been songwriting/performing for? I've been performing since I was a young child, that is…for as long as I can remember! Funnily enough though, I didn't start writing songs until one of my first visits to Los Angeles and someone in the industry said if I was gonna sing I needed to write my own songs. I was so naive, I had no clue. I took their advice and actually ended up having quite a knack for it, in fact I loved it! So my songwriting ablitites definitely came later. What was it in your childhood that made you so passionate about music? My passion for music came from my mother.   She was such a lover of music and her passion inspired me from my earliest childhood memories.  Music truly was our special bond and something that I will cherish forever. Who are your biggest musical influences? Too many to count really, but I'll give ya a short list. Stevie Nicks, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, The Eagles, Led Zepplin, Whitney Houston, Ed Sheeran, Queen, Elvis Presley, Adele just to name a few!! Great music and great talent always inspires and influences me. When you write do the music or lyrics come first? My song writing process goes both ways but generally the music comes before the lyrics.  I feel I write my best songs like this because it's as if the music is speaking to me telling me what to say.  I'm so connected and in the moment that writing the songs usually comes very quickly.  Everything I write is like a biography, my life's experiences. Has moving to LA given you a different perspective on music? Moving to LA has definitely given me a whole knew perspective. I really have a much better understanding of the music business and what gives songs and music commercial viabilty. I consider myself a ''Perfectionist'' lol. My early releases were some of my best work at the time , i worked on many songs before , but it took me awhile to get a sound. LOL i originally came in writing lyrics but reading them in other rappers voices. For example , i'd write an entire song that i thought was dope , but it didn't come out right because at the time i wrote it, i imagined Key Glock saying the lyrics. But looking back , im still not impressed with those releases i have , im working constantly and improving on trying to distinct my own sound since thats what alot of people say they like about my music. Have you noticed any major improvement in any sort from when you began till now? FOR SURE! There are so many of my old songs that i have , they're so bad man , i hate to even know i made those. So im in the studio with just me and my boy DSL Mel , and he's like "just find another beat''. So i start searching , time goes by and im STILL searching. After about 25 minutes something just told me to type in YBN Nahmir type beat. Which is what i did lol. i say towards the 3rd ybn beat , i seen this one with Lil Mosey on the front leaning over a balcony with a gucci jacket. So i clicked it ....lol best beat i've ever had by far. it was a sampled Lil Mosey x YBN Nahmir type beat prod by Dswish. It was so good that when it came on , DSL wanted the beat and got a little salty that i found it first lmaoo. Once i loaded the beat up and began to read the lyrics , i had to change a couple words because i knew that the song had to be like a "happy vibey song'', because thats the type of vibe the beat gives . So then i started recording and i just instantly rapped the entire song in one tape! It was my first time ever having one take , it jusy flowed so effortlessly. In your opinion, what’s the perfect way to listen to “Ball” ? the perfect way in my opinion? My RnB style is a mix of Contemporary with my personal influence stemming from a jazzy, mellow energy. The unique thing about being in Raleigh is how many faces of music culture are represented. This has been an influential factor in the discovery of my sound. I made music in college, and after graduation had more time to focus on my passions. This song emphasizes the different phases that can be experienced during a romantic interaction. The song starts off slow and describes the initial interest you find in one another and then moves on into a more exciting hook where the energy starts to pick up. There is a sudden shift when the hook comes in, this is to demonstrate how amazing interactions can become once you get past the initial phase of uncomfortability. I grew up in a non-traditional household where Eastern and Western influences married in the form of art and music - my parents were part of the cohort that saw the fusion of two very distinct cultures. I grew up in that influence, and when leaving for college, I saw creativity expressed in venues I never thought to consider art. Music is a form of artistic expression, and as I delved more into the local vibes here in Raleigh, the more I honed my style and found that I had talents that bridged my childhood influences and the new expressions of music outside of what I was accustomed to and decided that this was something I have always had an inner passion for. How do you incorporate your other artistic skills into music? For the most part, when I’ve decided on the vibe and direction for a song, I incorporate dance into the process to develop a physical representation for the work. In addition to choreography, the visual art serves as an aid to help guide the listener into my music before they can relate to its specific elements on their own. The inspiration of  “Jungle Juice” was Me wanting to embody the sound of New York City , the sound that we seem to have lost. The sound that has been overlooked for the last almost ten years. “Jungle Juice” sounds different the video looks different because we haven’t seen anything like this in a while the light has not been shed upon the underground wave of artist who just wanna make dope music and give it to the people. And we think you might have proved that, but from your artist perspective, what differentiates “Jungle Juice” from other rap records that’s currently out right now? Overall “Jungle Juice” is just rap, its a dope song with substance. It gives you a vibe in many aspects, you can smoke to , you can drive to , can workout to. Its something that we just been missing for a long time. An because of that it doesn’t sound like everything thats currently out now , without all the cap rapping an shitting on the listener ,im challenging other artist to do better bring back real rap, the music currently , the skill the talent its like low bering fruit but thats just my opinion. Los Angeles electro-pop artist Alexya is a singer-dancer that has a pop-punk-princess attitude that is clearly visible when she is on stage and constantly proves that nothing can hold her back. Alexya started performing at the age of 3 and found her spark for music was lit while watching a live Janet Jackson concert video at the age of 5. At age 13, she became a professional dancer which led her to choreographing for her singer friends and back-up dancing for many pop artists. Alexya was spotted by a manager while at a dance class in the San Fernando Valley and asked to join Master P’s girl group ‘The Fabulous Girls’. Her journey as an artist began when she found her ability to use a “whistle register” like Mariah Carey and lower tones like Toney Braxton. She toured alongside many Disney artists while performing with The Fabulous Girls and also initiated writing songs and learning more about recording arts which help create a foundation for her career as a solo artist. Alexya has recently released an EP titled “Like You Mean It” featuring the song “Zoom” that has gained popularity. You automatically get that feeling of needing to get up and dance to “Zoom” by Alexya with beats that are crisp and upbeat. “Zoom” has a style that reminds me of tracks by Iggy Azalea featuring powerful tones and sounds that you can physically feel pulsing through your body. The lyrics are beautifully written and Alexyahas a voice that delivers the words so gorgeously from the lower tones mixed with a smooth higher register. Alexya’s vocals in my opinion have remnants of older Lady Gaga, Iggy Azalea, and even some of Taylor swifts more recent tones in her rougher album. The intensity of the beats in “Zoom” are those that remind me of a dance club or rave scene that has a very feel good, “let your body move” vibe and I absolutely love the uplift I felt while listening to the track. Alexya’s lyrics are catchy and I love that she has sections that mix singing and parts that are more spoken showcasing that she is able to stretch her talents over many genres. Cool chatting with you too, I’m a creative artist from the Valley (San Fernando Valley, California). I was born and raised in the Valley, which is a pretty vibey but evenly-tempoed place. It’s got the LA vibes but nature is readily there if you need it to ground yourself. It for sure made an impact on my personality and attitude and I feel like I reflect that a lot when I’m in the process of creating. That’s probably the best way I can describe my personality: a chill buzz. I’m also an only child so when I was younger, my time was mostly spent with my parents and we would watch Janet or Michael Jackson concert videos and films starring Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. It’s so crazy to think that those experiences are the foundation of who I am as a person and so my music and artistry are heavily influenced by those things still. Also, probably anyone who follows me and especially those who know me very well, would know that I love anime. I grab a lot of storytelling and life tools from anime so in my music, music videos, pretty much anything I release there’s usually some anime inspired hidden egg laying around somewhere. How did you find your musical “sound” and have there been any artists that have helped shape it? I first found my sound when I heard and saw Janet Jackson sing on my family’s tv. I always liked her smokey, smooth, yet sweet tone of voice, so on my own musical journey I like to play around vocally with those textures. I like creating music that incorporates movement because I love to dance and train so much. I love to be outside and I love to experience new things so I feel like my musical palette just keeps getting more colorful and kinda wild and I’m super into it. My musical “sound” gets found and re-found over and over again by fresh experiences with new music, nature, and anime or film but more importantly, it’s grounded through movement and dance. For a while, I was trying to understand what my sound could be and it racked me because I’m so passionate and experimental as a person. I was afraid to decide on a sound because I didn’t feel tied to one specifically, so the artists I turned to for guidance were Jessie Reyez, Jaden Smith, and Pharrell. They inspired me to essentially say, “f*ck it”, and now I just tend to discover the music as I go. I’m always trying to experiment lyrically or with voice texture or song production elements and I really resonate with how those artists just put themselves out there. I want to keep digging for something fresh and honest and when I listen to these artists I find something new in myself to bring to the table when we get into production. What is your favourite part of creating new music? One of the best part of creating new music is the coming together of all these creative minds that I get to call my friends. It’s always cool to get your thoughts down on paper and into a song and to work in a recording studio, but I really value the team effort that takes. I get to co-produce the music, collaborate lyrically, and conceptualize the music videos with what I call my “tribe”. Through creating music, dance, or film, I’ve been able to find genuine friendships and we ended up forming this “tribe” where we come together and do music or film and it’s just so tight when I create new music because I know we get to band together. My other favorite part is that I get so hype to see who ends up relating to the music that I’m creating. I get so excited thinking that people get to listen to a part of me that’s so personal. Can you tell us the meaning behind your track “Zoom”? “Zoom” is all about being proud of your passions and unapologetic about pursuing what you want. Sometimes being bold in the sense that you are pursuing “your dreams” or a profession less structured, makes other people feel uncomfortable. This track was my reaction to all that. Legendary trio, LENOIRE, was established in 2016 and has been thriving ever since. Originating in Montreal, their music style consists of a feel good rhythm and blues. How was LENOIRE formed? Sleeping on the side of the Railroad between Bywater and Marigny in New Orleans, LENOIRE started out as fits of bohemian living. Playing music with ramblers and stragglers, late night under fluorescent lights, places, like the corner of Royal and Desire. What is your writing process like? Does being a trio making it easier or more complicated? Songs can come out from anywhere, a text, or an image somebody thought of. Some songs come in the dead of night, through the open window, leering, until you record or write it down. What was your inspiration behind “Bed Rhythm”? For a long time the song was more of a vamp to jump into, it took us a while to get the whole piece together. Its a spring song, so it gets a lot of energy from the joy of being outside for longer, to feel the heat of sunshine. The Montreal spring is such a relief. What is your favorite part of “Bed Rhythm” and why? The start, where the whole band comes in. The bass line is really satisfying, and we love hearing the bass drum pedal squeak a bit. Playing it live is great as well, its a lot of fun to drop into! What’s next for LENOIRE in 2019? Right now we've just started a cross Canadian tour, we're going to be writing and recording all the while, with a stop in the Rockies for some peace. I also do social graphics for Mickey Shiloh's new label HRDRV based in LA. It is so impressive that you started creating your own music at only 11 years old! What inspired you to start making music? My brothers, friends and I would always talk and listen to hip-hop. I grew up listening to Tupac, Biggie Nas, Big Pun to name afew. Also one of my good friends Tinica Rose is a singer.  So constantl, ive been around music. Which lead me to start making my own. Shout out to Tinica Rose check her out shes a dope songwriter. What was the writing process like for “Ocean”? What were the biggest challenges and how did you overcome them? Ocean was a song I had in the vault sitting incomplete for a couple of months. All i had was a melody and my verses. I hummed the chorus even laid down a reference track. But I felt it was missing something. I figured if i can find someone dope to redo my chorus and hook it up. Itll be a great song. Thats when i found RobbIe Nova (who has worked with Maino and troy ave) he was the perfect fit. In fact, not only did he do the chorus for me. He also gave me a verse and ending. Now i had a complete song on my hands. Shout out to Robbie Nova he’s dope. What is your favorite part about “Ocean”? If you could go back and change anything about it, is there anything that you would do differently? The 1:50-2:11 mark.. thats my joint!! That section right there is exciting. Play it loud i promise you’ll see what i mean. That has to be my favorite part. Would i change anything? To be honest, I wouldnt change a thing. Ocean sounds complete front to end. Singer & The Scientist is a Los Angeles electronic duo, comprised of expansive vocals by Kenley Shea and synthesis creations of Steve Channell. S&TS was born in the valley of Los Angeles in 2014, when the two met coincidentally as next door neighbors in a small LA apartment complex. Kenley and Steve shared diverse musical backgrounds and after a few failed attempts, created their first single “Notice Me”. This began the journey of Singer & The Scientist. After releasing a debut album, Singer & The Scientist changed up their sound and live performance style.
