Hi there, care to introduce yourselves to our readers? Hi everyone! This is Erick from Subways on the Sun. We are an indie rock band from Seattle and recently released our second album called "Capsize" through Spartan Records. How did you come up with your band name “Subways On The Sun” any meaning behind it? The name popped into my head one day years ago as we were starting to work on the first songs for this band. I've always been really interested in modes of transportation like trains and subways and love using them while traveling. Some of us in the band also have an interest in astronomy and space travel, so this idea of there being a subway system through the sun was fun imagery for us, and somehow seemed to fit with what we were doing. Ultimately, you just pick a band name and go with it! As a band, do you all share the same taste and interests in music? Or does any of you have any genres you individually enjoy separate from your band? We definitely share a lot of the same musical interests, which makes it easy to write together and reference bands or songs we like as we come up with ideas. A couple of us in the band are also pretty into metal and hard industrial music which you would never know from listening to our music, but you never know what influences might creep into our sound down the road! How did you guys meet? All of us in the band have been friends for a long time, and either played together in previous bands or shared the stage in separate bands over the years. For all of us, it's important to be making music with friends, and in a lot of ways it has ended up feeling like we are a family. I hope that never goes away. First and foremost, we are in this band to create music with our friends and collaborate on something we are proud of. What was the anticipation like creating music in subsequent to your previous releases? You hear bands talk a lot about the fear and trepidation that goes into creating a second album. For us, we just kept writing songs that we liked and then of course hoped that people would be just as into those songs as they were for our first album. We feel like we created something with "Capsize" that shows our growth as musicians and reflects where we are now in our lives, and so in that sense we were quite excited for it to be released and get into people's hands. I think we are always most excited with what we are doing at the moment, and being lucky enough to even make a second album was huge for us. Also for this record we were fortunate enough to get picked up by Spartan Records, and their team did an amazing job setting up this release and getting people interested. What’s your artist interpretation of the single “Hope You Like Getting Old”? Well, all of us in the band have kids and so the song started as sort of tongue in cheek nod to getting older. The "waking up on the floor" line came from a real event. My daughter who was very young at the time was supposed to be taking a nap, but was struggling with it. I stayed in her room to calm her down and all of a sudden I woke up an hour later myself, laying on her floor. We had both fallen asleep. My back hurt and I laughed to myself and the "hope you like getting old" line came to be. There is a more serious side to the song as well, in that we can all relate to the passage of time and getting older, and thinking about what has come before us and how the world will be when we're gone. What can we expect from Subways On The Sun this year? We are still doing our best to promote the new album with shows, and since we are having so much fun playing these songs live that will likely be the focus this year. We've also written quite a bit of new material lately and have a goal to get back into the studio to flesh those songs out. It's possible you'll hear some new music this year if we're able to pull it off. More than anything, we are thankful to keep doing what we love in whatever capacity we're able. Hookdiggy released his single titled “On My Way” and we loved the entire vibe about this song! Listening to this song gave us a feeling of home. The soulful music that became apart of our culture where we listen and we instantly feel a sense of joy and love for not only the people around you but for yourself creates a sense of unity upon immediate hearing. “On My Way” totally has that effect on you. The charming and enchanting hook evokes a feeling of community not only with one culture, but variety of different cultures and ethnic groups and it’s just a refreshing sound to hear, credible to the singer Sunja Dannete. “We know this rap music ain’t seen its best of days“, rhymes Atlanta-based Hookdiggy in the defining record "Good Music". “Remember back when the artists would write/and try to captivate your mind from the thoughts to mic/Now I gotta give a little gimmick and dance/ If I’ma ever sell a record or get close to a chance.” If Hookdiggy has a shtick in anything, it’s making good music. Drawing from his musical beginnings singing, playing piano and drums, Hookdiggy takes hip-hop back to its core – thoughtful, upbeat lyrics driven by steady, danceable rhythms. “On My Way” is nothing more than a timeless bop that can be memorable throughout households and celebrations and that’s why we're immensely attracted to the song. Using his music to spread knowledge and light, Otito is a rapper that’s breaking down the stereotype of rap music. If you’re wondering the meaning behind the name “Otito” it means truth and integrity in Yoruba. His sound is a mixture of conscious, soulful, and melodic Hip-Hop. Otito released his single “Amen”, a lyrically thought-provoking hit that steers clear from your typical rap norm. “Amen” is slightly religious however the main point I’ve received from listening to this single is that, it has a more motivational and inspirational approach with an uplifting delivery. The lyricism was raw and uncut and actually held substantial. I love that quality the most. He didn’t just rap about non-substantial things and your average lyrics you hear in mainstream rap music today where they rap about a bunch of nonsense on a popular beat. My name is Holdyn Barder and I am a country singer/songwriter born in Houston and raised in Bucks County, just north of Philadelphia. Apart from being an Economics, Finance, and Music student at Lafayette College, I am a BMI Songwriter and Independent Nashville Recording Artist. Being a full-time student and a musician simultaneously is both exciting and demanding, but with the right mindset and attitude it is certainly possible! Country music is a part of me that I could never live without, and I am so blessed and grateful for all the experiences I have been given thus far in my life – both personally and musically. Did you grow up in a musically inclined household? Were you surrounded by country music? Growing up, I was surrounded by all genres of music. Throughout my academic career, musical theater along with Meisner technique acting was a creative outlet of mine. In addition to my natural love for the stage, my father played violin for a few years and my mother sings and had played guitar and piano. My father served in the Marine Corps and my first country concert was a Toby Keith concert at the Tweeter Center at the Waterfront (now BB&T Pavilion). My uncle was stationed in Iraq at the time, and my grandfather (including many others close and distant relatives), served in either the Army or Marine Corps, too. So, I guess one could presume that my family’s military history, along with me being born in Texas, all helped form that unique patriotic sub-genre of country music in the back of my mind. From Lonestar’s “I’m Already There” to Brooks & Dunn’s “My Maria,” I was belting out those high notes in the backseat of my mom’s car at only three years old! Believe it or not, my country music interests faded as I got older. I remember getting into the early 2000’s pop, rap, and hip-hop era. I played country here and there, but it wasn’t until my high school years when I finally started listening to it again. George School was such an amazing place where I could be myself, and I ‘re-discovered’ country music there. Many of my classmates were musically inclined and went on to pursue music professionally as well, including Edwin Honoret (from Simon Cowell’s PRETTYMUCH). I remember playing “Little Black Submarines” by the Black Keys at a concert with my good buddies at Live Music Weekend, a two-day student music festival at my high school (like I said, it was an amazing place). We absolutely rocked the house and I never felt more alive! I was ready to connect back to where my passion for music originated from – country music. I started listening to the old tunes my mother and father played growing up in Houston and I started getting into the pop-country crossover sub-genre, too. Luke Bryan became an inspiring role model of mine, and I was completely ready to ‘countrify’ all of my friends who did not listen to country music! After a few years of getting back into country, my love for guitar, singing, and songwriting also grew in my first year at Lafayette College. I began exposing myself to long Nashville tradition and the legends of the country music industry. I truly dove into the knowledge and attempted to teach myself the inner-workings of Nashville. I enrolled in both vocal and guitar instruction at my college, and my instructors’ elitism at their craft and knowledge of Nashville history truly inspired me to attempt to follow that feeling I felt at Live Music Weekend in high school. I needed to begin chasing my dreams. How did your environment influence your artistry if it influenced it at all? Country music, besides sold-out concerts in Philly and Camden, was not a huge element in Bucks County life. Although it is rural in many spots, I think country music had a more distinct role in my own thoughts about how life should be lived. My banjo-playing uncle is in the Quaker City String Band in Philadelphia, and I spend every summer with my entire family at the beach jamming out to Kenny Chesney and Jimmy Buffett, to name a few. Being by the ocean is definitely a strong influence in my artistry, and I am confident that many of my future songs will incorporate seashore vibes. Do you prefer performing live or recording your music? I don’t have a specific preference since I believe that both performing and recording music are equally as rewarding and have their own unique perks! Recording music is special in the sense that you are permanently marking your sound for the world to hear. The only downside to this is that once it’s created, it’s done, so it is extremely important to always produce your best self, whether it be in a studio or in your own living room. When it comes to performing live, however, you can let loose even more and see the reactions of the people listening to you. You can feel the energy of the band and the crowd. It’s an empowering sensation and I love it. Being on a stage is an incredible feeling and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. Were you able to personally relate to “She Got the Best of Me” if so in what ways? Some personal events that took place in the past few years helped me decide that “She Got the Best of Me” was the song to record as it summarized much of my feelings. It was originally composed and cut by Luke Combs, and his powerful disposition brings an entirely different Southern Rock energy to the song and lyrics. I think portraying it the way I did provided a different, unique approach that also fit my emotions and intention more. I absolutely love the song as well which, of course, was another large factor in my decision to record it! Can you tell us a bit about the creation process of "She Got the Best of Me?" There are several aspects that went into creating the cover and its video. The song was produced with the help of former band leader and bassist for Chris Lane, Sid Menon. We met up in Nashville and he mixed the track for me. I also met up with Chad Crawford at the Nashville Urban Winery who lent his expertise in recording the accompanying video. Jordyn Elliott and Jaime Spinner were also key in bringing the whole project to fruition. Thanks to all who made it happen. What's next for you in 2019? 2019 is going to be a wonderful year of growth and creativity for me. I am currently writing and working on debut music scheduled to be released this year. I learned very early that live music is alive. Meaning that you can practice all day long but when you get up in front of people and do it, the music is happening very much in the moment and you gotta learn to ride that wave and be in that moment. Do you have any personal favorites from your musical influences ? if so which songs and why? It’s cliche to say, but the list really is too long for me to name. When I grow up I wanna be Raphael Saadiq and D’Angelo combined so anything they put out is an influence on me. Having a similar church background, something about the funk and grit in their songs just speaks to me. But Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Prince, Michael Jackson and even more current artist likeTank, B.Slade and PJ Morton have such an understanding of how music is supposed to feel that I couldn’t pick any favorites out of their catalogues. If you listen it’s apparent why they are where they are. What was your initial vision for “I Really Want You” ? Dark and Sexy. This song was actually really easy to produce because, for whatever reason, from the first chord that joint was oozing this sophisticated sex vibe and I just rode that wave. How was it creating the your music video? It was incredibly fun creating the video. The director Mo, @Moreesefilms, is a BEAST!!! We worked really well together from the first meeting to end of the shoot. I think we were really captured the sensualness that I was going for in the song. As we enter 2019, do you have any big plans for the upcoming year? Definitely! I’m releasing new music/video every 30 days in 2019. I’m currently working on 4 separate projects that’ll be released in 2019 and I’m in the works to do some live shows overseas so I think 2019 will be my best year to date.

If so who and why!? i always had many inspirations as a kid and now, all the way from the Beatles to bad bunny and many more, it would be unfair giving credit to just one artist because many of them made who I am today. How would you interpret the meaning behind “Cuban Boy” ? Cuban boy could be interpret in many ways ,more than anything I was looking to start my career with telling the audience where I come from and who I am ,since I live in Toronto now and the the first language in Canada it's English I wanted to do a balance of both languages ,in the song I talk about characteristics that Cuban boys have growing up ,all the way from having a lot of girls to always having self confidence ahaha, but more than anything describing who I am and protecting a confident image that no matter where you go or how big your dreams are if you believe in them 100% they will become true. Is there any specific genre of music you aim towards? There is many genres that I'm aiming for but mainly I'm focus right now on spanish rhythm ,I have an upcoming album that's gonna be coming out on the summer ,and I wanna be the most versatile I could be ,and bring the audience different sounds and try to satisfy as much people as I can ,lots of spanish English music of how most people calls it's Spanglish ahah, I want to be the first artist from Cuba to have a full album with all spanish genres in English and Spanish. Oliver Soerup and Stephen Weber is going through their very special and personal journey into Led Zeppelin’s song “Kashmir", with their song “Short Trip To Kashmir”. I think Oliver and Stephen did an amazing job paying homage to an iconic record while adding their own twist and spin to the song. There could be some challenges artists face when they attempt to cover a popular or well known song however, Oliver and Stephen executed their own idea of the tune flawlessly. “Short Trip To Kashmir” has a well-rounded and opulent aesthetic. The vocals are intricate, astonishing and abundantly soothing. They also released visuals alongside the song where they interpret the piece into their own elucidation. The animated production was pleasing for us to see and did a great job displaying their clarification of a legendary mix. The storytelling visuals and enthralling tune was a great combination and sprinkled the correct amount of uniqueness to a well-known hit that many people adore. Not only were they able to fabricate a remix that reflects off the thinking of themselves, they were able to make it appealing to listeners and viewers, keeping us attentive the entire time and allowing us to explore their journey with them. Agent07 is a talented artist currently located in Los Angeles. He was born in Nigeria and raised in Italy which gives him a world view of music. He is a musician that not only writes for others but also writes and performs all of his own music. I would call his sound, alternative rap which gives you some alternative sounds with a rap overlay. He also has a brand, which he founded and created, called Vinero. “Proceed With Caution” is one of those tracks that has an individual style and the production of the track is definitely done well. There is a strong key presence in the overall production work. The track is heavily layered with sounds from his 5 year old sister singing and talking throughout. Which I think gives the track a delicate yet impenetrable sound. Then as the song begins to close, it finishes hard with a gang of new sounds.
