  • Everyday Dogs Release "Nevada"

Everyday Dogs is a rock act made up of brothers Jesse and Julian Inglima and their friends Lucas LoPiccolo and Jack Gregg. They formed in Alpharetta, Georgia at a summer camp in 2017 where they bonded over a shared passion for classic and alternative rock. They would host late-night basement jam sessions, of course loud enough for the whole neighbourhood to hear, covering songs by their favourite artists. This is where they discovered their chemistry as a band, and shortly thereafter they decided to channel their musical energy into writing their own songs. It was at this time that the band officially formed as Everyday Dogs. The band relocated to Athens, Georgia, where Jesse, Julian and Lucas all attended the University of Georgia. The band quickly took the stage at popular local spots such as Caledonia Lounge, 40 Watt Club and Georgia Theatre. Since then, they have moved on to play venues in Atlanta, Georgia such as Smith’s Olde Bar and Center Stage. Less than a year since their formation, Everyday Dogs has recorded a self-titled EP in Boston, Massachusetts, and a second EP in Nashville, Tennessee. BuzzMusic is happy to release a brand new single by Everyday Dogs called “Nevada”. The song opens with an acoustic guitar and voice, which lulls one into a false sense of security that this is a simple singer-songwriter act. This myth is quickly dispelled as the band launches the song into a high energy rock groove. One can clearly hear the influences of classic rock, but this isn’t the only genre this band is capable of. There are twists and turns that make this song into something much more modern. The drums, bass and guitars are raucous and tightly knit, and the vocals are soaring and passionate, delivered with finesse, energy and confidence. Harkening back to the 80s, the guitar solo that breaks the song up is absolutely blistering. With “Nevada”, it’s clear that Everyday Dogs mean business, and we can’t wait to see what they dream up for the future. Give a listen to Everyday Dogs "Nevada" and check out their exclusive interview below where we're let in on the music scene in Georgia, and the bands goals for this year! As Georgia residents, how would you describe the overall music scene there? As a band, we have really honed in on the Athens music scene in particular, while also getting involved in Atlanta as well. Athens is a very ‘band-friendly’ city. There is an active music scene there that is fueled heavily by the University of Georgia as well as the long history of other bands that have gotten their start in Athens. Crowds are energetic and people have a desire to consume good live music. Is there a particular meaning behind your new single, “Nevada”? Musically, this is our heavy-hitter that fully captures how we describe our sound: alt-rock with the spirit of rock-n-roll. As far as the lyrical meaning behind the song, it’s a simple but bittersweet story about falling for a girl you’ve just met that moves away. What is your writing process like? Do you all collaborate with ideas back and forth or is it more streamlined than that? Our writing process is probably a little bit of both. Usually, one of us [Jesse and Julian Inglima] will have a rough outline for a song (a verse, possibly a chorus, and some lyrics) and then we will bring it into a practice for the rest of the band to put their mark on and add their own musical contributions. You guys have a great old-school vibe. Who would you say are your biggest musical influences? All of us in the band are big fans of the great alternative music that has come out since the ‘90s. That includes a lot of classic grunge bands (Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc.) to newer stuff that has been within our own lifetimes (Cage the Elephant, The Strokes, Albert Hammond Jr., etc). What does the future have in store for Everyday Dogs? Our goal right now is to grow our fanbase and let more and more people know who we are and what we’re about. We love writing music that is really grounded in a rock style, and we just want to share that with as many people as possible. • Can We Be Honest? Ruante Completely Delivered It With His New Hit!

Ruante, an R&B artist from Detroit, Michigan, has been singing ever since a child with a religious background. After his trip to Atlanta where he recorded his first single titled “Better Apart” which helped spark the idea for his first official record titled “C.I.B.H”. "C.I.B.H" which is an acronym for “Can I Be Honest”, is the relatable song we’re going to find ourselves emotionally connecting to. It discusses the story of a relatable relationship experience that most if not all of us can associate with. Ruante’s smooth-sailing vocals, silk-like resonance, and passionate delivery makes you feel as if he’s bringing true R&B back. That “feel good” sound that use to be highly popular back in the day seems to be resurrecting in a more contemporary and modern flare. With a hint of autotune, he showcases transitional paces in the tempo of his delivery from fast and staccato to melodic legato notes. What I interpreted from this relatable hit is that the song discusses how the guy is trying his hardest to understand what’s exactly the downfall of the relationship. He’s trying to comprehend what’s going on with his significant other, and why she’s acting the way she’s acting. These lyrics alongside the melody can translate well across today’s generation and I can see this becoming a radio hit! Catch Ruante's "C.I.B.H" here and check out the artists exclusive interview below! When creating your first song “Better Apart” did you have any idea of the style and genre of music you were going to make? Yes, I knew what lane I wanted to be in! A lot of my music is inspired by the 90s so you’ll hear a lot of story telling and painting scenes. Notice any major improvement from your first release to your release now? I’m more confident in myself as an artist and more willing to be vulnerable in my songs. What inspired you to write “C.I.B.H” ? “Can I Be Honest” was inspired partly by a relationship I was in and by relationships I would see around me. It’s a real story, something males and females can relate too. If you could choose one artist to collab with, who would it be? Why? Drake. He’s my favorite artist but besides that, the versatility he brings to songs would push me to become a better artist. Plus the song would be FIRE! Do you channel personal experiences into your songwriting? Yes, I feel that’s how you make the best music, real life experiences. What’s next for you through 2019? Be on the lookout for new music and content! You’ll be seeing and hearing from Ruante a lot more! Stay connected with Ruante through the artists Instagram! #BuzzMusic

I chose the name Maverick Christ based on the relation to myself and lifestyle. I go against the grain and create things and develop my own ideas but stay grounded to my soul and keep spirituality as the center of my ideas. • Mississippi Jake Gives Us A Humbling New Single "Confluence"

Mississippi Jake, a southerner by birth and tradition, is an artist that has found his way up to the stoic Midwest with a style and creative lyricism best enjoyed with a whiskey in hand and a cigarette tucked behind the ear. He has released a four-track EP in 2018 called “Foolish Dreamers”, which blends together the pastoral, blue-collar and nomadic ideas that harken back to an earlier age of Americana. Far from simply an amalgamation of the his influences, Mississippi Jake is a historian with his music representing an audial quilt patched together with nostalgia, romanticism, and the freedom of knowing there is no place in particular you are trying to go. BuzzMusic is proud to present a single by Mississippi Jake, “Confluence”. The song begins with the humble acoustic guitar, and slows into a heartwarming groove. There is such an immediate feeling of traditional country and folk music with the use of guitar, bass and banjo. Each chorus is such a welcoming return to something that seems so comfortingly familiar. Mississippi Jake’s vocals are inviting and poetic. The uplifting female backup vocals perfectly complement the grounded male vocals. In an era with so much emphasis placed on production and mixing, this was a refreshing song to listen to. There is such raw energy and sincerity that permeates through every lyric and every chord--"Confluence" is not a song to miss out on, that's for sure. Check out "Confluence" and scroll below for Mississippi Jake's exclusive BuzzMusic interview! Thanks for chatting with us! Would you mind describing your background and how you got involved with music? I grew up in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. Every time the church doors were open, you can bet I was in the pews. The hymns were the most redeeming aspect of the whole situation. Hymns and southern gospel music first gave me the bug. One day I asked my grandma "who do you do that?" and pointed at the guitar in the corner. Little did she know that I'd take the chords she showed me and play punk rock a few years later. In high school I found punk. It was mohawks and distortion through my mid-twenties. I briefly laid down the music world to start my education. By the second year of grad school, I knew I was missing something. I started writing songs based on my experiences in the hills and on the punk rock roads. As a Missourian, most of my literature classes were top heavy with Mark Twain. His writing and the mystery of the Mississippi River inspired the Mississippi Jake stage name. Over the last two years, it's been my full-time gig. Your single, “Confluence”, sounds great. Was there a particular meaning or message behind the music here? Confluence was a weird battle to write. Parts of the chorus have been sitting in a notebook of mine for about a decade. I never could finish the tune, try as I might every few months. While driving back from a history conference in Chattanooga, I stopped at the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio. I took about three hours to myself and took in as many details as possible. As I began a tune about those moments, the chorus from years before started playing in my head. For me, traveling and troubadour life has always felt the most comfortable for me. When I think of a final resting place, the most logic would be on any given midwest high way. How would you describe your creative process when writing music? I'm pretty systematic. Most songs start with a phrase or descriptive setting. Then I throw a few chords together that seem to fit the tone of the lyrics. I don't claim a lot of knowledge in the guitar playing department. I like to leave the songs open for other folks who play with me. I've got some ridiculously talented folks between my two bands The Bootleggers Orchestra and The Ghosts. The whole process typically takes about two weeks, with a few drastic outliers here and there. Who would you say your biggest musical influences are? When I began to understand how important music was to me was the same time I found Rancid. Finding music was hard in rural Missouri. The aggression, but also hope, in their lyrics, sold me immediately. My love of hopeful and honest lyrics lead back to my roots with Woody Guthrie and bluegrass tunes from the hills. Tom Waits will always be a huge influence for me. His way of storytelling fascinates me. Folks like Chuck Ragan, Dave Hause, The Menzingers, Red City Radio, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Gaslight Anthem frequent me on my long drives. They all play some part in the things I create. What can we look forward to seeing from you in the future? I like to have about four more irons in the fire than what is physically possible. Musically, I plan to put out two albums in 2019. One with The Ghosts (Rock and Roll) and on with The Bootleggers Orchestra (Folk/bluegrass.) I've got solo shows from Kentucky to New Mexico to Wyoming and back. If I can squeak some time in, I have a couple of video and podcast projects I hope to announce soon. Connect with Mississippi Jake via the artists website and socials: Facebook Instagram #BuzzMusic

  • Get Ready To Expect The Unexpected With YwmgCap!

“Reminiscing you got me all in my feelings” “Baby I did you wrong, I admit it”, imagine listening to a hip-hop love ballad where you feel the vulnerability in the artists work? Well we can tell you that this is more than an imagination! Rapper YwmgCap elaborates what it means to be a songwriter when he creates his song titled “Affliction”. “Affliction” seemed like a record that had high mainstream appeal while also remaining sincere with authentic lyricism. YwmgCap shows you that it’s okay to show feeling as he breaks down the barriers and lets his heart spit for him as he delivers bars that touches base around the topic of apologetic and forgiveness. This song is a highly relatable duet to the amount of men in life who ends up losing a good girl or someone they’re in love with due to their pride. YwmgCap is actually confining against the norm of hip-hop culture and it makes him more of a stand-out and genuine artist in my opinion. Despite him showcasing sensitivity in his song, it doesn’t take away from his talent and the amount of potential I believe he has as an artist to continue delivering the most unpredictable moments in his personal rap career. Don't miss out on YwmgCap's new single "Affliction" and add it to your Spotify playlist! Keep scrolling for the artists personalized interview! “Affliction” seems to be a song that discusses heartbreak. Were you able to personally relate to the lyrics you talked about? Yes everything I wrote was factual I was dating and in love with this particular female and I can’t even lie I wasn’t the best person to be in a relationship lying cheating you know regular dog stuff but when she was fed up with it and decided to leave I was hurt for real. How were you able to channel in a sense of vulnerability while writing “Affliction” ? You know when you initially go through a break up you never admit it was your fault so I would write songs out of anger and one day I started listening to R&B and the song Tank “Maybe I deserve” came on and I was like “yo I gotta be honest with this next song I make” and I got into my feelings and just let all the pain into my pen. What’s the most special quality about this song in your opinion? The fact that it’s what most of us as men think but are afraid to say like we let our pride dictate our actions and with this song I had to completely ignore my pride and just speak from the heart If you could feature any artist on “Affliction” who would you select and why? It would most definitely have to be Halsey her voice is amazing and unique I think we would cook up something special. What can we expect to see from you through 2019? In 2019 I want my audience to get more familiar with me as a person along with the music so I will be more active or social media and just be more active personally not just musically but best believe the music won’t stop my first mixtape “In My Writtens Vol 1” will be dropping later this year so stay tuned! Would you describe your background and how you got into music and songwriting? There was always Music playing in my various households as a child. I always loved to sing along from a very young age, and started to learn how to imitate other voices. I began writing my own songs in 2012 to Instrumentals I would find on YouTube. After some time, I was really able to evolve as an Artist and began producing my own Instrumentals. As a resident of Toronto, how would you describe the music scene there? I mostly create by myself in my home. But I reached out to my peers online to get a better understanding of the local perspective. There are people who feel that the Toronto Music scene is one of the most diverse and recently thriving in the world. While others have concerns about gentrification, sexual harassment and closing of iconic venues. I suppose Toronto is going through a transformation of sorts, and we have yet to determine where we are at collectively. The heart of Toronto still beats. Who would you say your biggest influences are? I am constantly inspired by myself. I would say my biggest influence are quite eclectic, here is a list of some of them: Portishead, Björk, Sade, Raphael Saadiq, Amy Winehouse, Bebel Gilberto, Massive Attack, Brazilian Girls, Imogen Heap, Morcheeba, Ladytron, Le Tigre, Thievery Corporation, Bonobo, Lenny Kravitz, Sleater-Kinney Is there a particular meaning behind the ethereal single “Hopium” that you could share with us? There is. For me, the word Hopium means believing in yourself. Being joyful. It’s a faith in the Universe, the Stars, and this beautiful Planet. Having hope in people to grow through their trauma and learn to thrive in life again. It means having hope that this systematic societal abuse could be interrupted. What does the future look like for you and your music? My music and I will be spreading across the globe. The unique experimental quality of the sound I am creating is something I want everyone to experience and connect with. I think MARLEY will be a staple for listeners for years to come. • Favour.O Released Liberating Single “Free”

Through a range of inspiring but challenging stories and experiences from his youth, despite at the tender age of 18, Favour.O, a singer/songwriter from Southampton, UK, writes music as a form of storytelling and catharsis, a skill which he acquired since the age of 12. His recent debut single "Free", released in early 2019, is a romantic plea of liberation from Favour’s past relationships which have done more harm than good, an experience which is widely related to. Favour's music is largely based on past experiences and as a socially conscious person, he often finds inspiration from things he sees and experiences on a day to day basis, as well as those experienced by others around the world. He channels in his environment, impressive spirituality aesthetic into his unique approach to music. His voice reminds me a lot like Khalid due to the stylistic articulation both artists have in common. It’s as if he’s singing in cursive. The melody and resonance Favour portrays is highly comforting for me. While listening to this song you feel a sense of freedom and relaxation. It brings peace and serenity onto your mood, regardless of the emotions you are feeling prior to listening and the emotions you are feeling during listening. “Free” by Favour was a beautiful song that was well executed and manufactured together. Due to Favour’s simplistic delivery and metaphorical way of lending his hand out to take you onto his journey of emancipation, this R&B, pop-soulful hit will be remembered for all it’s worth! Listen to "Free" now on Spotify, and catch this artists exclusive interview below where he shares his inspirations on the latest single! Hey Favour O! Great to chat with you! How does the music scene in UK differ from the music scene in U.S? No doubt the music audience in the US is much larger than in the Uk... because the US has a bigger population so its often thought that if you want to make it big you need to reach into the market in the US. But as for the music coming from both countries, I think theres a lot of great artists in the scene right now and more emerging. Some of my favourites from the US this past few years have been Khalid and Daniel Caesar. As for music in the Uk, it's been great to see artists such as Rachel Chinouriri, Hamzaa, Jvck James from London gain more recognition because of the diverse range of sounds they offer. Thats one thing I feel like theres more of in the Uk music scene... a greater range of styles. Of course a big genre in the UK is Grime which is predominantly from London and led by artists like Stormzy and Skepta but theres much more music and talent which has been undiscovered as of yet but will very soon! Tell us a little bit about “Free” and what inspired you to write it? "Free" was written from of my past childhood experience. I found it difficult finding genuine friends growing up and it was a constant cycle of getting to know someone, getting emotionally invested in them and then getting my heart broken after finding out they didn't have the right intentions. It definitely left me with a lot of trust issues moving forward and emotional scarring from relationships that I had invested so much time and effort in. Written from a romantic perspective, "Free" talks about being in a toxic relationship with someone who doesn't treat you well. Its often hard to leave these relationships because of the emotional attachment you've had to the person, although you know leaving is the right thing to do. It then talks about finally being able to leave this relationship, and begin the process of getting over the person, healing and moving on with life. It's not easy for sure, but its definitely what is needed to feel "Free". Did you find any challenges in the studio production of “Free” ? Yes actually haha. I was fortunate to collaborate with French Producer Bob Andria, who is very talented, with the help of Rekinsa who is a sound engineer living in the US, and is also extremely gifted, but as you can imagine as we are all living in different countries, bringing the record into fruition and getting it to sound just right the way we wanted it to sound was quite a process and involved a lot of sending different mixes back and forth. I was also preparing for my A-Levels in college at the time of working on the record, so balancing the two took discipline, but I made it work in the end. I'm extremely happy with the way it turned out and I love the song soo much! It didn't take that long for me to write it which I think shows the creative flow that came from the song. It just felt right! How do you use music as a pathway of expression for you? Music is therapy for me, it helps me take better control of my emotions, whether that be in the high or low points of life. Sometimes you just need to let things out and I feel like it gives me the opportunity to do that. It also allows me to connect with others. With the music I aim to produce, I want people to be able to relate to it because we are all human and having someone else who understands what you are going through is a comforting thought... even if its coming from a song. My music is also influenced by a range of artists and music styles so it allows me to also express my individuality and personal style. What's next for you through 2019? Lots more music coming! Some more releases throughout the year but I'm currently working on an ep, which I hope will be able to give more insight into me as an artist, my style and more stories I wish to share through my music. I'm also hoping to do some shows this year and perform my music live so my listeners can experience it first hand and I also get the chance to meet them which is a plus! :) Don't be shy and check out Favour.O's socials to connect with the artist: Facebook Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic

Devo is an artist that has been all over the map, from Europe, to Toronto to the Great White North. Devo calls Toronto his home, but he has also spent time in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, and he still maintains the relationships he forged there since moving back to Toronto at the age of 16. Moving back to the city ignited his passion for music, streetwear, and the urban lifestyle. Ten years later, Devo is investing fully in his music, and says that “even though it feels like I’ve been doing this forever, I’m just getting started.” We were so pleased to hear the latest from Devo, “On the Way”. Devo has a clean and refined sound to his music. His vocals are confident and his delivery is aggressive and swaggering. The beats add a great rhythmic aspect to this track and the arrangement is impressively detailed. This is the kind of single you just want to keep turning up, and we highly encourage you to give it a spin! Devo puts a unique twist with his single "On The Way" which we could definitely see breaking through the mainstream radio charts! We look forward to what Devo has in store for the future! Give a listen to "On The Way" here and keep scrolling for the artists exclusive interview! Hey Devo! Thanks for chatting with us. You say you have a love for Toronto. How would you describe the music scene there? I think Toronto has really made it’s mark on today’s music and sound. There has been endless talent coming out of Canada in the last few years and the world is finally starting to see that. Artists like Drake, The Weeknd, Jessie Reyez, Daniel Caeser, Justin Bieber.. the list goes on. Canada has some of the biggest talents in the world and I’m excited that people are finally watching. Who would you say are the artists that inspire you creatively? I mean, Drake is an obvious answer to most people that know me but, I love to write music more than anything and right now I would have to say Ty Dolla Sign is my biggest inspiration as an artist and someone like Khalid who I’ve seen grow from day one, to see how far he’s come is really inspiring. Can you describe what your writing and creative process is like? My process is pretty simple, I lock myself in a room or studio - go through hundreds of beats that people send me or I find online and just try to find something that fits my style or if I’m writing for someone else, making sure the message coincides with their story. Then it’s a matter of figuring out the right melody, flow and message. Sometimes I can write something within an hour and some days I have to take my time over a few days. It all depends on the song and mood. Is there a particular message that you’re trying to express with your new single “On the Way”? "On the Way" is kind of like my story. This is who I am, whether you’re into it or not. I’ve been writing/messing around with music behind closed doors for over 10 years. Early on I would show my close friends, kids in high school some stuff but I never really got serious with it until now. I’m ready, I’m here. What does the future have in store for Devo? More new music on the way, collaborating with more artists for my personal projects and hopefully a full EP coming soon. The people around me have been really supportive. I’m thankful for everyone who’s been involved in helping me grow, motivating me to continue to put out music and just be myself. Catch up with Devo and keep up to date on the latest with the artist through his Instagram! #BuzzMusic

  • DieLayt Releases Intensifying Single "Fracture"

DieLayt (pronounced “dilate”) is a 25 year old rapper from New Zealand. His first name is Joe, and he writes, produces, and records all of his music independently. He is of Māori and European descent. DieLayt was raised by his mother and has never met his father. When he was 15, he dropped out of high school after a run-in with the law and he has always struggled with mental health. This is showcased in his music, which includes topics on politics, religion, mental health and relationships. DieLayt’s musical influences include Eminem, Kid Cudi, Pouya, $uicideboy$, Maynard James Keenan and Chino Moreno. DieLayt has a brand new single called “Fracture”. This intense rap song features vocals that will make your hairs stand on end with its crisp and articulate raps. The verses are rapid, with the lyrics coming through with a rhythmic intensity. The rhyming schemes will make your head spin and the lyrical content combined with the quality of the vocals give this song a haunting texture. With this new single, we are excited to hear what this young rising star has to offer in the future. Give a listen to DieLayt's "Fracture" here, and check below for the artists personalized interview where he lets us in on creative process for the track! Hi DieLayt, great to chat with you! Can you briefly describe your background and how you got into music and writing? I grew up pretty poor, without a father, I moved around a lot and was never in one place for long. I've been in and out of the mental health system since around eight years old. Left school after being involved with the law and entered the workforce. The first cassette tape I had as a kid was "The Eminem show", I memorized "Cleanin' Out My Closet" and would go to school and rap the lyrics as fast as I could in a circle of my friends, seeing who could rap the fastest. Rap always spoke to me, I could relate to the lyrics, and the wordplay and intricacies in lyrical rap inspired me. I've been writing lyrics since I was twelve, and making music for three years or so, though I only bought a microphone last year once I grew the courage to put myself on a track. Would you be able to describe your creative process when creating and recording your music? My creative process usually starts with a melody I get from experimenting with sounds, then I'll add a beat to it and play it looped until a flow comes to me, then I'll go over the flow with gibberish until a topic comes to mind and the the words just pour out, then I write an entire verse with what comes out, then ill go through it and change each line if I need to, so it fits and flows perfectly, Once I have around four verses and a chorus I switch on the mic and record it all, mix and master it, and play it back until I'm satisfied. You released a new single called “Fracture”. Is there a particular message you had in mind when making this song? The message in that track relates to being bi-polar, waking up feeling like a completely different person some days, and the medication I take to stabilize my moods. I missed a dose once and had a manic episode, I was up for fifty hours or so, and I saw myself in the mirror, and that's where the chorus came from. You’re open about your past and struggles with mental health. Would you say this plays a large part in the way you create music? Mental health has always been a major factor in my life, being in and out of the system means I have always been conscious of it. Mental health is a big part of the way I make music now, but I don't think it would have been so prominent if it weren't for artists like Kid Cudi, XXXTentacion, Lil Peep and $uicideboy$. What can we look forward to seeing from you in the future? I like to experiment and I make tracks every day, so you can expect a unique sound, lots of new music, lyrics speaking on everything from relationships to politics, and hopefully a music video sometime soon. This song certainly sets the tone, and that’s one of relaxation, contemplation, and sheer bliss. Every element of this song, from the beats, the vocals, and the production induces a soothing atmosphere that someone can easily become lost in. The detail of every element in this song seems to indicate that this young artist has talent beyond her years. Listen to “Set the Tone” here, and you’ll set a great tone for the rest of your day! Don't forget to check the artists exclusive interview below! Hey Kayla! Nice to chat with you. Would you mind telling us a bit about your background and how you got involved with music and songwriting? Thank you for having me! My musical journey is rather interesting in my opinion. When I was two or three, I was in a daycare and one of the daycare teachers taught us a song. I can’t remember what the song was now, but when my mom came to pick me up, my daycare teacher told her that I could sing. My mom didn’t believe, so my teacher had me sing the song she taught us. After that I was singing in church, in school plays and for EVERYONE’s birthday. I took a break from music in high school because I thought I wanted to be a Sociologist, but something inside me kept me writing at the very least. I moved to Georgia after graduating from high school and that’s when I started to take music and songwriting seriously. And now I’m studying Songwriting at the Berklee College of Music online. You just released a single called “Set the Tone”, could you describe the meaning and message behind this song? “Set The Tone” is one of my favorites that I’ve written. It really embodies the message that I want to put throughout anything that I create, which is to respect and love yourself no matter what. The idea of setting the tone came to me after a few friendships of mine went really sour and that’s the moment that I’m speaking to with this song. In the past, I’ve allowed people to not treat me as good as they should and this song overturns those moments for me. Who are some of the artists that inspire and influence you? 6lack is one of the few artists that have inspired me to be true me and my story. On a creative level, I’m really inspired by SZA and Ari Lennox. As a songwriter, would you briefly describe what your creative process looks like? Before writing any song or even recording, I always pray. God is the ultimate creator, so I like to include Christ in my creative process. But when it comes writing, as soon as I hear the first few seconds of a track, words pop into my head. I sing them aloud until the next few words comes. Once I get the first two lines of a song, I pause the music and the lyrics start to flow. I wish I were gifted enough to not write lyrics down, but I’m way too forgetful. What can we look forward to from Kayla SiMaya in the future? More music! I’m at the beginning of my career and I’m only looking to share and spread this fire and love that I have within me. I want my music to encourage people to do what they love and to love themselves endlessly. And I’m claiming it now: I will write a song for 6lack one day soon.
