With his wealth of experiences and influences, Clerel has become a master of fusing competing influences in harmonious ways, skillfully blending them like colors on a master painter’s palette. • Locations Refuse To Stay Quiet On New EP, 'Stop The Money'

"In a world that feels so incredibly divided, we want to use our music to unite the working class on common sense issues to create meaningful change. Most reasonable people believe that healthcare is a human right, that the climate emergency requires immediate action, and that our system of government is corrupt. We need to stay focused on what benefits us all and start working together to achieve it because there is literally no time to waste." Unfortunately, in a world as advanced as ours, inequality persists, and most of us regular, non-billionaire folk are forced to fight for fair wages and protections in the workplace. By now, most of us have heard about the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes going on across the TV and movie industry for over 130 days. Brooklyn, NY, NY-based indie alt-rock band Locations are all too familiar with this fight, and they refuse to stay silent. The duo, consisting of guitarist/vocalist Niko Rummell and drummer/vocalist Thomas Whidden, are both Teamsters Local 817 Location Scouts for film and TV. Yeah, the band name is absolutely derived from their shared experience on the ground. Throughout their time making music together, they've carved out a signature guitar and drums heavy sound, featuring outspoken lyricism and an unbelievable amount of heart. And their primary objective, above all else, has in recent years become fierce advocacy for the little guy. Universal healthcare, opposition to banks funding new fossil fuel companies, combating political corruption, and defending democracy are some of the causes they've spoken for. Many have taken notice of these guys in the process. Their summer 2022 single, “Moves,” aired on popular radio stations like WFUV and WFOX, landed them a sponsorship with German audio company Sennheiser, and accrued thousands of streams on Spotify. The success of the single propelled Locations to book festival appearances at Musikfest 2023, a New Colossus Festival Summer Saturdays showcase, as well as a featured slot at NYC's go-to music hotspot, Mercury Lounge. They were also featured in HBO’s Vinyl. Most recently, they released singles in support of Extinction Rebellion NYC’s four climate demands and in support of the pro-democracy anti-corruption group Represent Us. Not bad for two young musicians from Brooklyn. Instagram

  • Marc Oliver Caps Off An Astounding Run With His New EP, 'Liv'

San Diego’s favorite outlaw envelops you in a romantic world of infinite possibilities. Capping off a magnificent summer run that saw him steal the hearts of audiences worldwide, San Diego native Marc Oliver returns to put an emphatic end to his summer with his electrifying EP LIV (volume one). With his unwavering love and dedication to his craft, this scene veteran continues to set and exceed the standard for alternative pop and rock. As someone who’s seen and done it all, although it would’ve been easy for Oliver to stagnate, he’s aged like fine wine instead. As he continues to push his artistic greatness even further, we’re glad he’s bringing us along for the ride, and we can’t wait to see where he takes us next. Oliver’s summer has been nothing short of extraordinary. Having set hearts ablaze with releases like “History” and “Thing For You,” he showed that he’s still operating at the peak of his significant artistic powers. Having gotten into music at the tender age of three, his remarkable music journey has seen him do it all, from sharing stages with icons like Pat Benatar and John Legend to rocking crowds with standout releases like “Reach.” An unparalleled musical mind, Oliver’s ability to effortlessly blend genres and flip them on their heads has endeared him to fans worldwide. As LA’s favorite “Outlaw” continues to show his heart of gold, we think he’ll keep audiences spellbound for a long time. As the culmination of Oliver’s continued artistic renaissance and evolution, “LIV” is an impressive testament to his continued artistic genius. As expected from any Oliver release, it’s a robust and cohesive project from top to bottom. Although each of the five songs, “LIV,” feels like a strong offering by themselves, we can’t help but feel that they’re more than the sum of their parts. Coming in at around 20 minutes in length, each release in “LIV” feels like it brings something a little different. One feature connects the threads that bind this project: from the moment hopeful piano keys illuminate “LIV” on the opening track “Reach,” Oliver’s dynamic yet tender delivery sweeps your worries away as he warmly invites you to the rich musical world he has created. “LIV” is many things, but perhaps most importantly, it’s a celebration of the pure joy love can bring and its endless possibilities. Ever the visionary, Oliver imagines these endless possibilities on “Surf Song” but also reminisces on “History.” Romance adorns every release, but although the road to love may not always be straightforward, releases like “Soldier” show that Oliver is willing to fight for everything he cares for. Fittingly, the EP concludes not in the past or future but in the tender present with “Thing For You,” a heartwarming celebration of love and the simple joys being with the one you love can bring. Marc Oliver has outdone himself yet again, and as our favorite outlaw rides into the sunset again, we’ll eagerly await his return. • ESQ Swallows His Pride On “Can’t Be Satisfied”

Sometimes, you must step back and look at the bigger picture. With his vocal flair, a knack for witty, relatable lyrics, and a sound based on good old rock n’ roll, Larry Sager (better known by his stage name ESQ) is an electrifying musician based out of Detroit, Michigan. Armed with a rare artistic talent, he impressively balances with a down-to-earth, nostalgic sound; this talented artist puts the “rock” in rock n roll. Hungry for success but, most importantly, possessing a deep, unadulterated love for music, you know you’re in for a good time whenever ESQ decides to put out new music. About his new single “Can’t Be Satisfied,” ESQ says the meaning “is that it’s a love song about two people who had an argument or falling out.” Although the song begins on a low note, fear not; although both parties may have been upset with each other when “Can’t Be Satisfied” begins, love finds a way to prevail in the end. Featuring renowned producer, mixer, and engineer Sylvia Massy (Tool, Prince, Johnny Cash, and Red Hot Chili Peppers) on mixing and vocal duties on “Can’t Be Satisfied,” ESQ impressively finds a way to transform something that initially sounds negative to something heartwarming instead. Beginning with a perfectly executed instrumental performance that oozes the essence of rock n’ roll, “Can’t Be Satisfied” feels like a cohesive release from start to finish. Although ESQ was initially reluctant to record, when Massy heard it, she liked it so much that she persuaded ESQ to release it. We’re glad he did, and as he sings lyrics like “Looked to her; tears falling from those eyes like rain / Touched my hand – said could not stand the pain / Being apart for long; told her I was wrong” listeners stand witness to a touching love story that shows that two people can work it out, as long as they have a love for each other. Don’t miss the accompanying music video, which adds another layer of charm to this release. ESQ’s new release, “Can’t Be Satisfied,” is heartwarming and flips something negative into a positive. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream ESQ’s “Can’t Be Satisfied”, available now on all majour streaming platforms. Check out the music video, too, out now on YouTube. Welcome to BuzzMusic, ESQ! We loved "Can't Be Satisfied"; what a rollercoaster of emotions! What was the creative process like for this release? The song started with the main lick - used as the intro, the verse and the chorus - then I developed the chord structure for what you might call the pre-chorus and just tried to construct the chord progression that would get me back to the beginning; I went back and forth about whether or not to have a guitar solo; decided - for a change - I won't put one in; there's plenty of other songs we have released and will be released with lots of guitar solos (!) I did a piano add-on that is my favorite part - a sustained chord that stays constant while the other instruments undergo more obvious chord changes. What was your favorite part of bringing your vision to life for the music video? My favorite parts of the video are with the mannequin / Haylie. She did such a fabulous job on the make-up and playing the role. Is it evident whether or not she is an actual person or not? I like where the male subject is chasing after her - if it's not too hard for people to catch - because it's in fast motion - our mannequin is quite the skater if you slow down those clips. How did you initially get into music, and do you have any favorite music-related memories you'd like to share? I started piano lessons at age 5. I had very definite likes and dislikes of the music I was playing - I switched to a new teacher after seven years, and he gave me such crap to play - I quit. Subsequently - I discovered rock music on the radio - as my grandmother liked to listen to rock & roll and loved James Brown. My most memorable times in music are being in the studio and recording - which I love - though it has a certain amount of stress among my most influential valued experiences: sitting in the studio with David Foster and his engineer, watching him work with the Tubes and Chicago - how he would mix and overdub. Even how he listened back to tracks - at loud volume and discerning / a perfectionist - creating commercially successful flawless recordings. It's inspiring to me still - all these years later. What goals do you want to achieve through your music? We have so far done minimal performances. I want to start playing out - we must go once we complete these current projects. Our South America and Asia fan base is relentless - over 15 million views at our 7th release. It would be great to go out there and play. What's next for ESQ? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? We have three new tunes coming out shortly - working now to complete the videos. For the fans who like what we've done so far - I don't think anyone will be disappointed with what we have coming up. While similar to what we have released already - perhaps some musical surprises are also in store. It's still rock music - hopefully fun, fresh & challenging to hear; thanks to everyone listening. We appreciate you - and keep on rockin'. Instagram

  • Take Flight With Super Love’s Latest Hit, “The Moon”

Super Love, a rebellious musical force, defies convention with their 'autonomous indie' style, blending evocative, multi-layered lyrics with a fusion of cross-genre grooves. Founded in 2019 within the walls of a brownstone townhouse by Constance Watkins, the mesmerizing lead vocalist, and Jared Watkins, the versatile multi-instrumentalist, they break boundaries, proving they're a sonic entity unconfined by any singular style or sound. Super Love's latest single, "The Moon," encapsulates a raw and emotional journey that weaves through the intricacies of human sentiment. From the first notes, a wave of nostalgia washes over the listener, reminiscent of a time when emotions were simpler and more profound. Drawing inspiration from the gritty essence of New York City's local vibe, their expressive sound is a culmination of punk and jazz influences, crafting distinctly unique and strangely familiar energy through this track. The song opens with engaging synths that transport you to another realm, setting the stage for what's to come. The blend of modern indie nuances with a nostalgic sound is a masterful fusion that paints a picture of time's passage and growth. Constance Watkins' vocals add a layer of vulnerability and authenticity, infusing the lyrics with palpable emotion. The poetic storytelling within the song resonates, taking listeners on a journey through Love, loss, and introspection under the watchful gaze of the moon. Leading us to the soaring and anthemic chorus, this elevates the track to mountains of euphoria, capturing the essence of longing and hope in its purest form. "The Moon" by Super Love is a testament to their artistry, showcasing their ability to create music that resonates and leaves a lasting imprint on the soul. It's a beautifully crafted piece that lingers, inviting repeated listens to unearth its intricate layers and unravel the depth of its emotion. Welcome back, BuzzMusic Super Love, and congratulations on your latest release, "The Moon." In "The Moon," there's a palpable raw and emotional quality. Can you share the inspiration behind this expressive track? I have never been afraid of change; maybe afraid of the unknown, but not change. Change will happen whether we want it to or not, so I’ve always chosen to harness fear and convert it into a drive that helps me shape what’s to come. “The Moon” is about being brave, taking chances, and knowing so deep in your bones that your path will be exactly the way you want it to be despite challenges or opposition. We moved into the city the hard way without any sort of outside help. And during the move, there was a moment, a distinct instant of change. It was an identifiable second when we knew that nothing would ever be the same again. We were filled with the feeling of facing destiny and winning. We were on the train to Manhattan. We had the keys. And there we were, with just a suitcase, a guitar, and each other. Oh, also, our pet bird, Rex, drew more attention from strangers on the subway than any of the other strange things we’ve traveled with. This split second had such an impact, there in the damp air and pressure as we passed under the river. It was a moment of success. I mean, it was success wrapped in a ball of fear. But it was success! We were pushing our lives onto a new path, one that so many had told us would be too hard. We love how this song effortlessly marries elements of nostalgic sounds with modern indie new wave. How do you navigate blending these influences while maintaining your unique musical identity? We absolutely love blending genres! This is one of the defining qualities of our music. In doing this, we keep an overt focus on the rhythm. Getting the rhythm just right then merging in syncopated melodies is where we find that sweet spot. For “The Moon,” we drew inspiration from 60s Pop, R&B, Soul, and Funk of the 70s. If that sounds like a lot, it’s because it was! Even tricker still is that “The Moon” has a strong message, and we didn’t want to hide it behind a big production. During the process, melodies became messier before they aligned in harmony. In fact, “The Moon” has three distinct melodic hooks, all competing for the listener’s attention. And somehow, each hook does its job perfectly. Constance, your vocals in this track are profoundly passionate and authentic. How do you connect emotionally with the songs you perform, and how does that translate into your unique vocal delivery? This is a tough one for me to put into words; it’s all a feeling. The vocal delivery is all about that emotional connection. Really living that moment of the song as I’m singing it, feeling it, the fear, the bravery, the excitement. Embodying the raw emotion. There is truth behind my emotions when I sing; that comes through in the vocal quality. I also aim to sing in a lower register. I’m a natural soprano, but the lower vibrations resonate differently. For the type of music we make, going an octave lower changes the emotion in the melody. For our music, it works better… It feels right. The synthesizers in "The Moon" play a crucial role in shaping the song's sonic landscape. How do you experiment with and select the right sounds to enhance the musical experience? We’re having a lot of fun with the synths! We like to keep the instrumentation of an album within a set group so that the album’s soundscape is cohesive. And for our first album, Je T’aime, we didn’t use any synths. We want to remove that limitation for our second album. Throughout the album, we’re relying heavily on a fuzzy synth and this electric piano, you know, to keep that sonic cohesion across all of the songs. There’s a fun dichotomy with this blend; the electric piano is a classic rock instrument, but the fuzzy synth is a newer sound. “The Moon” doesn’t have an electric guitar in it. This is the first time we’ve done this in our songs, and we rely heavily on the electric piano to fill in that melody where the guitar would be. But really, the easy answer in selecting the right sound is whether it sounds cool. We check each other on that. If it sounds cool, it makes it into the song. What's next for you? Next is wrapping our second album. And then straight onto a third! We’re already in the planning stages for that. But really, right now, we’re super excited about experimenting with music videos. We’ve already released videos for “Bored” and “The Moon” from our upcoming album. Music videos add another layer of expression to our music. Having the opportunity to craft visuals that align with the emotion of the song allows us to embody our message even more fully. And they go so fast compared to music production. It can be highly stressful, but the production time for a music video for us is just a day. We’ll storyboard and plan each shot beforehand, and then it’s a whirlwind of filming. It’s a lot of fun!
