Hailing from a working-class family, she discovered her passion for music at a young age, performing at school shows and charity events to hone and develop her skills as a singer and songwriter. Defined by dedication and passion for her craft that shines through in her music, Victoria quickly separated herself from the masses through her ability to write lyrics that touch the heart and connect with her listeners in a way few other artists have been able to. She has long been a fierce and passionate advocate for mental health (specifically OCD) and has spoken about it candidly in several radio interviews and other occasions. Combined with her tendency to interact with and engage with fans enthusiastically, it should come as little surprise that she continues to build an incredibly loyal and passionate fanbase; with each release, you find yourself rooting for her more. Her latest single, "Golden Kiss," is a perfect example of Selena's unique style. Over upbeat, summery pop instrumentals, Victoria’s upbeat vocals whisk you away with images of a budding summer romance. When she sings lines like “Glitter on my skin, Roses in my hair / Loving me so good, He loves me everywhere,” you can’t help but smile. The accompanying music video sees Victoria stroll through flowers, tinged by sunlight and positively glowing, and by the end of the track, it’s like you’ve been in a comforting dream. We can’t wait to see what she’ll do next. We loved “Golden Kiss.” It felt like such a perfect summertime vibe! We have to ask, what was the inspiration behind this song? So good to be back again. Thank you for having me! Always a pleasure. And thank you, Golden Kiss is definitely a personal favorite of mine. The first song I created with this specific music video in mind. The inspiration behind this song and video was to authentically and melodically express the euphoric and blissful emotions we feel when we fall in love. I truly wanted to capture the essence of that magical feeling when everything falls into place. Life is as it should be is perfect and bright. I believe both the track and the music video capture that beautifully. I predominantly use the color yellow as the theme of the track because it symbolizes the bliss, the happiness, and the glow we experience when we find the right person. Something in us shifts in the most beautiful colorful way as all the stars align. You mentioned that the “Golden Kiss” music video was the first one you shot! What was it like, and what was your favorite part about bringing the video for “Golden Kiss” to life? With Golden Kiss being my first music video, it was most definitely a nerve-wracking but exciting experience! We shot at Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. I truly felt that It was a fantastic location to shoot this music video. With the natural glowing beauty of this scenery, the vibrant colors, and the butterflies, I knew immediately Golden Kiss needed to be filmed here. I truly was on cloud nine. I love nature, and I was beyond thankful and in my ideal state of pure bliss - which, of course, was the goal for the music video, so I think that we captured that perfectly. You mentioned you’re currently based in Toronto. What’s your favorite part about the music scene there, and how has it influenced you as an artist? I record my songs in Toronto with some incredibly talented people. I always receive a new sudden spark of inspiration from either the art, the music or just the environment of the city itself. Toronto is a beautiful place to live and an excellent area with its various popular cafes, restaurants, culture, and diversity. There are truly special and amazing moments captured when you’re in Toronto. What motivates you to make music? What’s your favorite part about making music? What motivates me is my passion for music are my loyal and dedicated fans. No matter how much time has passed, they remain so true to me and get excited every time a new song releases. I’ve always loved music, and it will always be my passion, but knowing there are others out there who genuinely enjoy my music as much as I do, if not more. My amazing fans dedicate these beautiful fan edits/accounts to me and it is something I am truly grateful for. Creating music itself is such a wonderful and inspiring experience, but when you have that loyal fan base that anticipates your next move - it makes it all the more exciting. What’s next for Selena Victoria? Do you have any big plans for the rest of 2023? What’s next is an exciting, outspoken new single - the second last track off my album Sweet Poison and the song is called “Dancin’ On My Own.” It is a self-love, self-empowerment anthem that truly resonates with where I am in life, and I believe it's something we all need to feel and hear more of. Choosing yourself and loving yourself first is essential to your life growth. Becoming the best version of yourself is not an easy experience, but that’s the beauty of it. When you choose to put yourself first, you advance in so many ways that prepare you for various amazing opportunities in life - and loving yourself should always be first. Instagram
- Mr. Streetz’s “Rags To Riches” Is A Masterclass In The Art Of The Grind
The East London rapper continues to hustle his way to the top. Mr. Streetz, an East London rapper who has taken the UK rap scene by storm, is gearing up to release his highly-anticipated sophomore LP, 'Wins & Bosses.' Having already tasted success after releasing numerous singles, EP’s and his debut album, Mr. Streetz is set to continue his reign as one of the most exciting and engaging artists in the UK rap scene with his new lead single “Rags To Riches.” Never one to shy away from his musical roots, Streetz describes “Wins & Bosses” as a tribute to the generation who grew up in the late 1990s and early 2000s and dreamed of living the life of gangsters they idolized in movies. His sound is pure in that his lyrics are raw and honest, and his music reflects the realities of life on the streets. It’s a celebration of the hustle, overcoming adversity, and the bumps and challenges life throws our way. “Rags to Riches” is a firsthand example of Mr. Streetz’s creative and artistic versatility and talent. Over gritty instrumentals reminiscent of Rag’n’Bone Man, Mr. Streetz showcases his unique style and approach to storytelling, spitting bars one moment and soulfully singing the chorus on the next. Throughout the entire song, Streetz’s charisma and hunger are palpable, dropping lines like “I used to clothe myself with rags / Silk now that I’m rich.” From beginning to end, Streetz’s talent is obvious and we can’t wait to see how far he’s gonna take it. For fans of UK rap, “Rags to Riches” is the perfect introduction to Mr. Streetz's unique and captivating style. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream “Rags to Riches,” available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Mr. Streetz. We loved “Rags to Riches.” Your drive and hustle shone through! We have to ask, what drives you to make music? My passion for music is my main drive, and nobody knows when they will never be able to be heard again, so I think it’s important to say as much as you can before you don’t have the chance. You mentioned that your new album “Wins & Bosses” (out February 24th) is a tribute to the generation who grew up watching and idolizing the movie bosses who made it from the bottom. We have to ask, how did those movies influence you as an artist, and what is your favorite gangster movie? I loved all the gangster movies, and because I didn’t grow up heavily involved with that life, it gave me the ability to be creative to imagine what it would be like if I did. My absolute favorite movie of all time is “Goodfella.” I must have seen it 500 times. How did you develop the vision for the music video for “Rags to Riches?" I wanted to keep the video relatively simple, highlighting that with hard work, you are able to obtain nice things, cars, clothes etc., but also staying humble and grounded, as shown at the end of the video when I’m sitting in the dirt. If you share one message with your fans, what would it be? It would be a quote from the song, “It’s taken hard work and perseverance I’ve come miles from inches That get-up-and-go attitude will drive you. Got no time for winges It’s now or never pushing myself to be better became more vicious If it takes days, weeks or years From the rags to the riches” What’s next for Mr. Streetz? Any big plans for the rest of the year? So much going on. I’m working on my next studio album, which I hope to be ready later this year—more information will come soon. Instagram Facebook
- Nasir MF Is Romantic, Irrational And Above Else Head Over Heels In “Romantic Fury”
The Brooklyn, NY, artist explores the feelings of all-encompassing limerence when you fall head over heels for a special someone. Nasir MF exploded onto the music scene last December with his dynamic debut single “Fucking Lonely.” Never one to stay still or remain complacent, his follow-up “Romantic Fury” has established a budding streak of scorching hot releases that will hopefully continue for a long time. Not content to make music, Nasir MF hopes that rather than being catchy, his music will also help inspire queer BIPOC artists to pursue their dreams. Nasir hopes that his music will encourage queer BIPOC artists to share their art with the world and ultimately break free from the social constraints of society and explore the limitless well of creativity that dwells within us all. Like his musical abilities, Nasir MF’s musical inspirations are equally diverse. Coming up, he drew inspiration from the 80s and 90s NYC freestyle movement, with artists such as Exposé, Rockell, and Stevie B acting as significant formative influences. However, the artist's current influences come from the PC Music scene, which includes artists such as Charli XCX, Namasenda and Caroline Polachek, among others. You could say that Nasir MF's music reflects this eclectic mix of inspirations. With his ability to constantly push boundaries and integrate different influences, the sky is truly the limit. “Romantic Fury,” his electrifying follow-up to his powerful debut “Fucking Lonely,” sees Nasir continue to push boundaries with an honesty that is as refreshing as addictive. Over expansive and winding hyper-pop instrumentals, Nasir MF grapples with the all-consuming infatuation you feel when you have someone special on your mind. It’s an anthem for all of the hopeless romantics out there, and as Nasir MF himself admits, “It is super unhealthy, but hey, it happens... it is honest.” Nasir MF's music is a must-listen for anyone looking to experience the raw, unfiltered sound of an artist who is unafraid to push boundaries and challenge conventions. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Nasir MF’s “Romantic Fury,” available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Nasir MF. We loved “Romantic Fury;” we’ve all been there, right? Staying up late, butterflies and everything. We had to ask, what was the inspiration behind this song? Were you drawing from personal experiences? Ugh, yes! We’ve unfortunately all been there. The song is about my dating experiences over the last six years. Most of them were extremely intense and a bit unhealthy. I always thought having anxiety around love was normal until I discussed it with my therapist, and they said: “Yeah, no. Let’s work on this anxious attachment style.” Haha What was your favourite part about bringing the music video for “Romantic Fury” to life? My favourite part about bringing it to life was working with the incredible director Alp Topçu. He was extremely communicative and committed to creating this dream video of mine. In addition, I love the symbolism of the video. It’s shot in a boxing ring and explores how obsessive love feels like a battle or a match. Also, being super queer in a traditionally masculine space was pretty interesting. For listeners who aren’t familiar with your music, how would you describe your sound? Great question! I’d describe my lyrics as sassy, vulnerable, self-deprecating, and honest. In terms of sound, I work with various producers to achieve a bubbly and ethereal yet edgy sound. I love contrasts because I tend to work in extremes. What would it be if you wanted listeners to take one thing away from your music? I’d love listeners not to beat themselves up. We all “mess up” about love, especially those who didn’t experience healthy love growing up. That’s not an excuse for a specific behaviour but more of a reminder to be compassionate with ourselves during our healing journey. What’s next for Nasir MF? Do you have any goals for the rest of 2023, and when can we expect to hear new music? I dropped my debut EP “luv, self loathe,” on Valentine’s Day this year. I’m currently working with producers on a remix project, which should drop within the next two months. In addition, I’m already working on my next EP, which will come out this fall. I may not have a ton of supporters yet, but those I do have will get fed this year! Also, I have a bunch of DJ gigs and live performances coming up in NYC! I want everyone to rejoice, dance, and love. That’s all I want! Instagram Twitter
- DJ Supreme And Shaheed Look To Today’s Youth On “S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., And S.T.R.E.A..M"
The Birmingham, Alabama, emcees place their faith in the bright future of the children of today and tomorrow. Hip-Hop veterans Shaheed and DJ Supreme have proven time and time again that they are not just about making music but also about spreading positivity and uplifting their community. The duo uses their music to inspire young minds to pursue their dreams, promoting wisdom and community-based initiatives through their non-profit organization K.R.U (Knowledge, Rhythm, and Understanding). With every release, Shaheed and DJ supreme reaffirm their commitment to promoting education and using their platform and hip-hop to make a difference, one bar at a time. Fittingly, the accompanying video for “S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., and S.T.R.E.A.M” takes place at the McWane Science Center, an interactive science and learning museum in downtown Birmingham. The video shows Shaheed & DJ Supreme joined by a group of enthusiastic kids eager to learn. The kids colour pictures, learn physics by shooting hoops, learn breakdance moves, and how to understand topographic maps. Pointedly proving that hip-hop need not negatively influence children, “S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., and S.T.R.E.A.M” instead emphasizes that the future will be exceedingly bright as long as we provide the right guidance to the younger generations. Anchored by a throwback beat and a vocal flow with lyrics that preach the power of knowledge and learning, "S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., and S.T.R.E.A.M." is a powerful reminder that learning can be fun. Although the kids are a little young to think of career paths, DJ Supreme and Shaheed are laying the groundwork and showing kids that science, technology, engineering, arts, and math are crucial subjects that can lead to exciting and fulfilling careers. As they say, “Let’s educate the young kings and queens, confidence with self-esteem that’s a good routine.” "S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., and S.T.R.E.A.M." is easy to listen to and that at the same time is motivational and educational in its premise. It’s a statement of belief in the younger generation but also an assertion that we have to provide the right example for our children. If you need inspiring and educational bars, tap in and stream "S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., and S.T.R.E.A.M.," available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, DJ Supreme and Shaheed! We absolutely loved “S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., and S.T.R.E.A.M.” and the underlying premise and motivation behind it! We have to ask, what was the inspiration behind making this track? Shaheed: The inspiration for writing the lyrics came from showing that the art of hip-hop has science, technology, engineering, and math involved in it and knowing people who have their own educational organizations, such as Southern Center for Broadening Participation in STEM, that do amazing work in our community. DJ SUPREME: Thank you for supporting “S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., and S.T.R.E.A.M.” This project was a labour of love. We’ve always been connected to our schools, but our collaboration with educational pioneer Calvin Briggs inspired the song. So for those that don’t know, you also run a non-profit, K.R.U (Knowledge, Rhythm, and Understanding). Can you take us through the vision and goals for K.R.U? Shaheed: K.R.U. is our educational initiative that empowers the youth by teaching them the 4 core elements of hip-hop through peace, love, having fun, and unity, and to help them express themselves in a positive manner that will assist them in their lives mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially. We have so much fun doing this program, and it’s our way of giving back to the youth in our city and community. DJ SUPREME: Knowledge, Rhythm, and Understanding are to teach the youth the fundamentals of hip-hop culture by showing them the four main elements of hip-hop (emceeing, deejaying, break dancing, and graffiti) as well as educating them on the history of hip-hop. This has proven successful in inspiring the youth to be creative and productive citizens. K.R.U. also builds self-esteem. What was your favourite part of bringing the music video for “S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M., and S.T.R.E.A.M.” to life? Shaheed: My favourite part was watching the children in the video have so much fun at the McWane Science Center Museum in Birmingham, Alabama, where we filmed at. It was like a hip-hop field trip, and the children loved it. DJ SUPREME: Following the lead of our video director, Richard Giles. He is a visionary and had so many great ideas for the video. We filmed the video at the McWane science center in Birmingham, Alabama, and it was a blast because, basically, it was like a field trip for the kids in the video. They had so much fun. What would it be if you wanted listeners to take one thing away from your music? Shaheed: Our music is truth over beats, and we try to represent our way of life, our family and the culture well every time we release something. DJ SUPREME: We just want our listeners and supporters to know that we value their support and would not ever intentionally release offensive music filled with profanity or any sexual or drug references. We take pride in providing music that people of all ages can relate to and enjoy. What’s next for you two? Any big goals for the rest of the year? Shaheed and DJ Supreme: To keep doing more great work with our non-Profit K.R.U. And our new album, THE ART OF THROWING DARTS, is dropping in August 2023. It’s some of the best work we’ve ever done. We’ve got guest stars such as Akil the MC and Chali 2NA of Jurassic 5, Percee P, Slug from Atmosphere, and R&B star Raheem Devaughn. We’re looking forward to the world finally hearing about this project. Instagram Twitter
- Erin Duvall Walks The Thin Line Between Love And Hatred In “Too Little, Too Late”
The Nashville-based singer-songwriter teaches a valuable lesson about choosing personal happiness and supporting love, even when it fails you. Although her path to happiness may have been winding, the proud mother of four celebrates every part of the journey she’s been through, good times and bad. She credits her journey with making her who she is today and displays the rare ability to flip adversity into something positive consistently. Speaking on love, Duvall says, "The weight of the wrong person in your life can be crippling. It can strip you of who you are supposed to be and clip your wings down from allowing you to fly”. This ethos shows itself in Duvall’s work; speaking about the message behind “Too Little Too Late,” Duvall says it was written for anyone that has gone through a complex relationship and needed to find their way out. It’s about some of the lessons Duvall has learned herself throughout her journey; it’s about the delicate dance we do working through life and the emotions of love, aversion and freedom that come with relationships. And more than anything else, it’s about growing to accept yourself and finding what inspires your true happiness. Over instrumentals anchored by a good old country guitar, Duvall stands up for herself and cuts some dead relationship weight loose. Dropping lines like “I’m stronger than I thought I could be / Without this weight of you and me / I can fly like the bird I’m supposed to be,” Duvall just wants you to know that you deserve to be happy! Whether that involves being in a relationship with someone else or simply how you think about yourself, Duvall wants you to know that “You are amazing and deserve nothing less.” Thanks, Erin; sometimes, we all need to be reminded. Erin Duvall’s “Too Little Too Late” is an empowering anthem that teaches us to be kind to ourselves and allow ourselves to be happy. Whenever you need a little, pick me up, tap in and stream “Too Little Too Late,” available now on all streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Erin. We loved “Too Little, Too Late,” and we love the empowering message you’re spreading! We have to ask, what does it mean to you to bring this kind of meaningful music to your fans? This particular album is extraordinary, and means the world to me to share it with everyone. This album is about surviving the storms, but more importantly, it is about eventually learning to dance in the rain. This album was extremely cathartic for me and so incredibly empowering. So I hope anyone who hears it feels like a friend when they need one, strength when they can't pick themselves up, and the power to keep going and eventually fly to great heights. Self-love is not a selfish choice. It is a very important one. I had to learn the hard way and am grateful I did because I am much better in my relationships now. How would you describe your music to first-time listeners? My music is country to its core, but it nods its hat to all of the music I grew up on, from gospel to country to musical theatre to rock n roll. It will tug at your heartstrings and hit you with the honest truth. It will take you on a roller coaster of emotions and leave you feeling empowered. If there’s one message you wanted fans to take away from your music, what would it be? Life’s struggles do not define who you are but give you the strength to fly to extraordinary heights. What was your favourite part about bringing “Too Little, Too Late” to life? What was the creative process behind it? This song was written for anyone who had a difficult relationship and needed to find their way out. The song is a delicate dance working through the emotions of love, aversion, and, finally, freedom. I had lived with this melody and chorus for a long time, and when I finally paired with The Bakers Brothers, it was one of the first songs we wrote together. It just flowed out of us! I'm so excited for everyone to hear it! What’s next for Erin Duvall? What do you have planned for the rest of 2023? 2023 is a big year, and we are so excited about everything we have going on. You can expect a lot from me this year. I have more new music coming (the next single will drop in May), the possibility of a very fun summer song, lots of important work with my charity, Twice the Love Foundation, including another great event, the start of a new podcast with very important conversations about life in a single household and as a single mom, and my animated children’s project finally making its debut. We are working hard and are excited to share everything with all of you! Instagram Facebook
- Danica Bucci Promises To Live On In Her Moving Tribute To Aaron Carter In “This One’s For You”
The Ontario native moves forward one step at a time in a powerful tribute to her dear friend Aaron Carter. Sometimes, we forget how fleeting human life is. People come into our lives, change them forever, then disappear. Appreciating the ones close to you as much as possible while they’re still here is essential. For Danica Bucci, although it would’ve been entirely understandable to grieve indefinitely, she decided to celebrate her friend’s life instead. “This One’s For You” is a testament to Bucci’s resilience, positive outlook, and the beauty of friendship and human life. Danica Bucci was introduced to music early through dance and a love of performing onstage. Hailing from Ontario, the province of opportunity, the budding songstress was determined to master her craft and improve her skills. She started taking voice lessons and began participating in voice and singing competitions soon after. Displaying a level of passion that an unbridled love for music could only explain, she would later teach herself how to play the piano and start writing her songs and music. Whenever Danica Bucci performs, you can tell she loves what she does. Danica was first introduced to Aaron Carter by a former dance instructor who became his choreographer. Carter and Bucci quickly became friends, frequently working and collaborating on music. He was a great friend but an ever greater person. “This One’s For You” is dedicated to him and the precious friendship he and Bucci shared. Over soft, gentle piano-backed instrumentals, Bucci pours her heart out in a beautiful tribute to his life and her resolve to live the best she can, keeping his memory by her side. Although on lines like “It hurts thinking bout' it / I hate that it's true,” Bucci’s pain and heartbreak are evident, lines like “But with every breath I take I hope you know / I'm always taking two / And this one's for you” signify that even as she keeps Carter’s memories close, she’ll keep breathing and moving forward. Danica Bucci’s “This One’s For You” is a touching tribute to the beauty of friendship and human life. Even if those we care about may not be here anymore, the best thing we can do for their memories is to cherish our good times and use them to live our lives to the fullest. Whenever you need a beautiful piece of new music, tap in and stream “This One’s For You,” available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Danica. Wow. We were tearing up listening to this, “This One’s For You” was such a touching and beautiful tribute to Aaron, and we think it’s so sweet that you decided to celebrate his life like this. We want to ask, what does it mean to you to be able to release this song? Hi, thank you so much. I’m glad it moved you. In all honesty, releasing this song is bittersweet. The reason and inspiration behind writing, recording and releasing this song are one I wish were not true, as I had to lose a friend. It is a way for me not to let Aaron’s passing be done in vain. I want to use his life and experiences as a way of helping others while mourning him in my way. He and I bonded over music, and there are many songs he and I collaborated on, so this is my way of honouring him the best way I know how. I know he would be so proud and flattered that I wrote a heartfelt song for him. What would it be if you wanted your listeners to take one thing away from this song? While this song is inspired by my friend Aaron, it is for anyone who has lost someone. It provides some timeline of the many stages of grief one can experience after losing someone. We tend to have many questions, experience multiple emotions, and many varying thoughts and feelings come into our heads. I wanted to give his loved ones and fans a song for them to feel those feelings along with me, and I wanted those who didn’t know him very well, to get a glimpse into what his and my relationship were like. I was blessed to know the true, best version of him, and I wanted to share a little bit of that with everyone. With all that being said, another important thing that I want listeners to take away from this song is the fact that I support good mental health in our youth significantly, and I recognize the dire need for resources in helping to achieve that. Upon releasing “This One’s For You,” I donated a portion of the song’s proceeds to On Our Sleeves and YMHC (Youth Mental Health Canada) to help make a positive impact and raise awareness for these organizations. Both organizations work to break stigmas around children’s mental health, and both organizations work to provide resources, support and funding to people with chronic mental health disabilities. I have created a legacy page in honour of the life and legacy of Aaron Carter, and I encourage everyone to visit the links in my bio to listen to the song and donate that way or go to the sites and make a separate donation. I appreciate everyone who has listened and donated so far. What motivates you to make music? I have always had a love for music. I love performing, and I love connecting with people and speaking to them through words and melodies. The melodies are what I’ve been able to move people with, and I speak best to others through my lyrics. I have always been told that I make people cry with the way I sing and the way I put words into feelings, and I love when people tell me things like that because it means that others get me and that how I feel is how a lot of others feel. It is very encouraging and refreshing when you find people who are on the same page as you sometimes, and I also love how sometimes my words and the way I put things into perspective have helped inspire others to feel something they maybe haven’t felt before or have always been unsure about feeling. What do you want your fans to feel when they listen to your music? I want my fans to feel my heart and soul and all of the genuine emotions and feelings that I felt at the time that I was creating the song they were listening to. I want them to hear the song and think about what I experienced to get to the point of writing and recording that song, and I also want them to feel the overall message that I put into every piece. I also want them to find their own message in my songs, which applies to what they have gone through or are going through, and I also want them to feel how the songs make them feel. What’s next for you? Do you have any big plans for the rest of 2023? I hope to continue to bring awareness and assistance to mental health organizations, especially the youth mental health organizations, because I am passionate about helping children recognize at a younger age what could be making them feel a certain way. I want them to feel that they have a way to properly express how they feel so that they can convey those feelings to people who can help them if needed. I want them to know that they are not alone and that someone will always be there to listen to their valid thoughts and feelings. I also hope to release lots more music, release my merchandise, and surprise my fans with more things I incorporate into my art! Instagram Facebook
- Cleo Alexandra Laments The Pitfalls Of Lust And Temptation In “Taken By Desire”
The Australian model turned singer-songwriter hauntingly laments the loss of a partner who has given in to lust. Every once in a while, Aussie rock-n-roll has graced us with acts that can only be described as transcendent and genius. Acts like AC/DC, Rick Springfield, Tame Impala, and Tash Sultana set the bar and stage for successive generations of talented Aussie artists, all striving to establish themselves in a competitive environment. Cleo Alexandra has quickly established herself within this environment as an act to watch for the future. With a burning drive to succeed and a penchant for adding touches of realism, grit, and flair to the classics, the former Miss Australia turned singer-songwriter will be someone you want to keep tabs on. A keen student turned occasional collaborator to some of the Aussie greats, she released her self-titled debut album "Cleo Alexandra," reimagining classic Aussie hits and showing off her signature flair. The album even featured a cameo from Rick Springfield on reimagining Men Down Under's "Who Can It Be Now," showing Alexandra's ability to attract and generate star power. Supported by 6-time grammy winning producer Keith Olsen and J.J. Faris, the sky is seemingly the limit for this bright Australian talent. Cleo Alexandra's new single "Taken By Desire" showcases her versatility as she wades into new melodic territory. Over fiendishly spooky instrumentals, Alexandra's haunting vocals construct a soundscape of vengeful angst. As she sings and laments the anguish she faces as a result of her unfaithful lover ("I realize that somehow I've been so blind / "How long have you been tricking me?"), the visuals of "Taken By Desire" juxtapose desire with rage. Alexandra rolls in anticipation in her bed, only to be yanked back to a dark alley of despair. Spooky. Cleo Alexandra's "Taken By Desire" is a powerful tribute to the angst and anguish of infidelity and relationships. If you're in the ruts of relationship woes, know you're not alone—and let Cleo Alexandra be the microphone to your fury. Whenever you're ready, tap in and stream Cleo Alexandra's "Taken By Desire," available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Cleo Alexandra! We loved “Taken By Desire;” your vocals, the instrumentals, the music video, everything came together so well! We think you pulled off the haunting vibe well. We have to ask, how did you create the inspiration for this song? You're too kind! Haha, thanks so much! "Taken By Desire" is inspired by specific moments of deceit in a relationship. That moment countless people have experienced when they catch their partner red-handed, doing things they swore they would never do to them. In an instant, you are confronted with their lack of integrity and the undeniable fact - they have been lying all along; you've been played. The chorus climaxes to express your disappointment when this realization hits you, and their disrespect for you is staring you straight in the eyes. You can no longer deny the facts. The man you thought you could trust, who you wanted to believe, was different from all the rest - turns out to be just the same as all the others. He’s a dime a dozen, a common player, just another man taken by desire—time to let him go. Along with the accompanying music video, the song explores the emotions and confusion that hit when faced with this heartbreaking reality. The video’s gritty imagery and grunge/punk rock-inspired black-and-white theme bring the emotions to life. We captured the raw energy expressed in the song, and I'm blown away by the result. Anyone who has experienced this all too common pain will find a fabulous, cathartic release screaming at the top of their lungs to my new single "Taken By Desire." What was your favorite part about bringing the music video to life and matching it with your vision for “Taken By Desire”? The collaboration aspect of making this particular music video was a first for me and my favorite part. We were lucky to film the interior shots at the Stellar Entertainment Music Studios in Sydney, Australia. Renowned music producer and engineer Jimbo Barton (Eric Clapton, Men At Work, Matchbox 20) organized these interior shots. They even bought his guitar, which was once played by Marilyn Manson, to feature in the video. The night before filming, the director and videographer Harrison Woodhead scoured the streets of Sydney to find the best place for the exterior shots. The grungy alleyway was located in Newtown, Sydney, and was the cherry on top of the filming. On the day of the shoot, Harrison did not disappoint. His guidance and ideas carried us through and helped bring the gritty emotion of the song to life! It was a great experience and one I will never forget! So you have a huge respect for some of the Aussie greats who have come before you. Who’s your favorite Aussie rock n roll artist, and what’s your favorite part about the music scene there? Growing up in Australia, I listened to many Aussie rock bands like AC/DC, INXS, Silverchair, and Men At Work, and that’s where my love for rock music started! My favorite Aussie band is impossible to pick, but Wolfmother and Silverchair are up there. This has greatly impacted my sound as the rock influence has been ever present since day one. My favorite part about the music scene here is the supportive nature of my fellow musicians and performers. We all want to see everyone succeed and don't see each other as competition, which can be a huge plus help when times get rough! Who would you like to collab the most within the next year and why? Damn, that's a big one! I would say I'd love to collaborate with the band Maneskin. Their hard-hitting vibe, catchy songwriting, and grungy edge are right up my alley! In an ideal world, collaborating with them would be my dream! What’s next for Cleo Alexandra? Do you have any big plans for 2023? My next project is currently in the works and will combine many Aussie icons into one. My reimagining of Australian band Men At Work's hit "Who Can It Be Now" will feature vocals from Australian rock legend Rick Springfield and add a hard rock edge. Accompanied by a horror-inspired video, it’s one you will not want to miss! Instagram Facebook
- Callisto Cuts Off Bad Friends In “This Is Awkward”
As the old saying goes, your room reflects who you are and your state of mind. They say one of the quickest ways to learn about someone is to see their room or workspace. That’s the idea behind Callisto’s music video for their influential debut single, “This is Awkward.” A band’s practice space is precious, usually profoundly private and personal. The music video for “This is Awkward” is an admittedly rare instance of a band providing a peek into what’s behind the curtain. Callisto is further distinguished by having two vocalists, Howi Spangler and Brandon Hardesty, combined with balancing melodious, raucous and ultimately ferocious delivery of lyrics. Rounded out by the dynamic lyricist and drummer James DiNanno and vocalist, keyboard and guitarist extraordinaire Rob Dinanno, Callisto’s dedicated approach to their music could only be accomplished with a cast as diversely talented and versatile as they are. The music video for “This Is Awkward” aims to start a conversation with the group’s fans by providing what feels like a glimpse into the band’s soul. As the camera turns on to reveal a red room balanced by blue light, subsequent shots reveal numerous tapestries, paintings and spray paint adorning the room's walls, reflecting the band’s creativity, artistic identity and headspace. There are interesting parallels between the contrast of lyrics, like the repeated “I’m not your enemy” and the intimacy provided by peeking into their practice space. Still, knowing Callisto, every moment and lyric uttered probably provides an opportunity to find deeper meaning and connection. What a band. Callisto’s “This is Awkward” is a statement, a straight-ahead, muscular mainstream rock debut that fans will surely enjoy. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and check out the new music video for “This Is Awkward,” available now on YouTube. We loved “This Is Awkward” and the excellent idea of filming a rehearsal in your practice space. We have to ask, how did you even develop this idea for the music video? James: So this was a place we rented. I envisioned a tight space that looked rundown and felt a little claustrophobic. Initially, there was a storyline included with the music video. As things developed, I just felt that we should keep shit simple. So we stuck with just the gritty performance footage as a standalone. What was your favorite part about bringing the “This Is Awkward” music video to life? Howi: Working with Andrew Hall is always a treat. He has a good eye and always has cool ideas. He’s very talented at editing and trying new techniques to make his videos look unique. Please give us the Callisto origin story! How did Callisto come to be? ROB: Callisto originally started as a 5(?) piece group but with entirely different members aside from James & myself. In 2017, when we arranged to kick off the project's first session, we had major disagreements with one of the former members (typical band shit) and had to start from scratch on day one of the scheduled sessions with Howi as our producer/engineer. I'm still amazed we accomplished as much as we did with those initial single releases because it was all born right then and there out of the ashes. What is your favorite part about making music? Brandon: My favorite part about making music with Callisto is just doing different things without the pressure of worrying about how an existing audience is going to receive it. It's just about making music for the sake of making music and following the ideas. It has a certain pureness to it, which is pretty cool. What’s next for Callisto? Any big plans for 2023? James: Teaming up with Elon. We plan to take a massive spaceship into orbit and perform exclusively for all the aliens…Tom Delonge can come too. Instagram
- Idahams Explores Dualities Of Romance On “Wetin No Good”
The Bonny Island native triumphantly returns with a new Afrobeat anthem for your listening pleasure. With two critically acclaimed projects under his belt and over 50 million streams, Idahams has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting new faces in Afropop music. Having already turned heads with his dynamic debut album “Truth, Love and Confessions,” which brought universal acclaim, the Afropop and amapiano musician is not content to remain complacent. Once again raising the bar with his new release “Wetin No Good,” it’s clear Idahams is on a mission to release hit after hit with each new release. Originally from Bonny Island in Nigeria’s river state, Idahams knew he had something special when he finished recording “Wetin' No Good.” Produced in collaboration with Yussy Beatz (who fans of afro beats might recognize for working with artists like Adekunle Gold and Yemi Alade), Idahams describes 'Wetin No Good' as a catchy, infectious pop song that blends elements of afrobeat and amapiano to create something truly special for your listening pleasure. It's a prime example of Idahams at his musical best, blending traditional rhythms with modern pop production to create a fusion that is easy to listen to and vibe to. From the first note, Idahams sweeps you away in magical drum patterns and thumping basslines. His captivating vocal delivery and lush melodic arrangements add an extra layer of depth and emotion. Speaking on the content of the song, Idaham says that “Thematically, the song captures two different feelings and interpretations – on the one hand, you are being served a hot breakfast of sad love and heartbreak, but on the other hand, you could be having the best sex of your life.” Simply put, “Wetin No Good” explores love's duality and infinite possibilities, performed in an enchanting afro-fusion style that Idaham flawlessly pulls off. We can’t wait to see what he has for us next. For fans of Afropop and highlife music, 'Wetin' No Good' is a must-listen. Whenever you’re ready to infuse some rhythm into your life, stream “Wetin' No Good” and peep a dynamic rising artist at the top of his game. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Idahams! We loved “Wetin No Good,” the fusion of afrobeats, amapiano and pop was pulled off flawlessly, and we can tell how much work you put into this track! We have to ask, what inspired you to make this song? Were you drawing from personal experience? I've heard many stories, even from my male friends especially, and we've all had that one time when we were with a girl that just had a hook on us both emotionally and physically. It's a feeling that is relatable and almost unforgettable. That was the inspiration for the song. I had to go into my feelings to write the song, and "Wetin''' No Good" is the beautiful outcome. So you’re originally from Bonny Island, Nigeria. What is the music scene like there, and how do you think it’s helped shape you as an artist? We have more music bands and choir groups in Bonny Island. We can count the new age solo artists from the Island, but we cannot talk about music and entertainment in Bonny Island without extending it to PH City. You see the way Lagos is the center of entertainment in Nigeria; that's how Port Harcourt is the heart of entertainment in the Niger Delta region. You already know that we PH boys are at the forefront of African music right now, and it's not just Burna Boy; it's also your Hitboi Idahams, Omah Lay, Ajebo Hustlers, 1da Banton, and not leaving out Timaya, Duncan Mighty, Dan Dizzy, Mr 2Kay and so on. Can you take us through your creative process? How do you make music? Is it a more in-the-moment inspiration thing for you, or do you plan a concept for a song and work from there? My creative process depends on a variety of factors, but the constant thing is that I am constantly voicing or recording on my phone before the actual studio recording. I can get a rhythm idea or lyric line and save it to my phone. Sometimes, it can be the beat a producer may have sent me. The idea can even come from another song I may be listening to and so on. I don't have a steady routine for making music. Some songs are made in a matter of minutes, while some can take months to finish. What is your favorite part about being a musician and making music? I'll say it's the liberty to create without restrictions. I am signed to a label, which is Grafton Records; my boss and management do not impose or enforce a vibe on me. They let me be me with my music. That's not to say I don't have A&R support from my label, but they guide me more than drag me through each creative process. What’s next for Idahams? Do you have any big plans for the rest of the year? My plans for the rest of the year will unfold as the year goes by. The first thing on my list is this new song, "Wetin No Good"; I'm discussing the plans and concepts for the video with my team, but for now, we are pushing the audio and looking out for your support to get the word as far around the world as possible. - Mourning Sun Stands Against Fake Friends In “Spineless”
The Metalcore act refuses to let anyone walk over them anymore. Mourning Sun, a San-Antonio-based metalcore act founded in 2017, has quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the scene. Combining profound lyrics and conscious music composition that bleeds emotion, they have quickly amassed a diverse following due to their explosive stage presence and commitment to their craft. Having already performed with well-established bands such as The Plot in You, Like Moths to Flames, Dayseeker, and The Devil Wears Prada, Mourning Sun’s momentum is quickly building, song after song. Mourning Sun comprises guitarists Coby Gutierrez and Josh Gomez, John Harvey on drums, and Emmanuel Facio on bass. Their former bassist, Jericho Barrera, has reprised the lead singer and lyricist role. Familiar yet different and with one eye to the future, the new look of Mourning Sun will surely provide an experience that will feel nostalgic to early listeners. It also showcases the group's continuous improvement and drives it to greater heights. Their latest single and video, "Spineless," is a cathartic response to the fake people in our lives who we thought would be there for us. Over raging, thrashing instrumentals, Barrera takes a stand against those who would use and then abandon him when the going gets tough. “I’ve killed what you thought of me!” Barrera exclaims, rejecting his former, weaker self. “I'll return the knife you left in me / Spineless!” Barrera warns, vowing to learn his lesson and reject the fake. It's safe to say, lesson learned. Mourning Sun’s “Spineless” is a decisive rejection of everything fake. It’s about standing up for yourself, refusing to be taken advantage of, and standing tall and recognizing your self-worth. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream “Spineless,” available now on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Mourning Sun! Wow, what a performance. We loved “Spineless” and its story; you guys did an excellent job! After you got the inspiration for this song, we have to ask how you went from the idea to bringing it to life? Take us through your creative process! We liked the idea of making the spineless title into something more literal than metaphorical, which gave us an easy lead into just 3D printing a spine and building around a few story shots with the beatdown performance ones. We feel everyone can relate to the subject matter, and being able to express the anger and betrayal behind it visually came pretty easily with the experience with our genre. So you’re based in San Antonio, Texas. What’s the metal scene like there, and what’s your favorite part about the music scene? The metal scene here does not get enough praise. We have some local favorites like Voltreus, imbalance, and Forever, must see and hear if no one has yet. A band like this keeps this scene alive and makes us curious about future projects. The hardcore scene is the most dedicated and alive, and those are some of our favourite shows to be a part of or just get to see here in San Antonio. How did Mourning Sun come to be? What’s your origin story? Emannuel, the founding member of this band, has undergone many member changes over the years; even before I was doing vocals, I played bass only a few years ago. This band started like any other, though, with a kid in high school wanting to make music, and from there, it grew and continues to grow into something more for each and every one of us. What do you guys like to do outside of music? Do you hang out alot outside of band meetings? Definitely, video games are something we all love to pass the time. Emmanuel has his family and graphic design career; John works with his brother at his woodshop, and Coby produces and makes other genres of music in his downtime, fishing and hitting the shooting range. Josh is a bit of an enigma when not working on music, and Jericho loves to draw, animate, and character design when he has the time. What’s next for Mourning Sun? Are any big plans in the works for the rest of the year? We are already working on our next EP and the album to come, after which we are excited and antsy to continue working. As well as setting ourselves up to play more extensive and farther out shows so we can meet and play for more people across the US and the world when that time arrives. Instagram Facebook
