- Bask In The Duality Of 'Gemini Reign' By Smooth Retsina Glow
Smooth Retsina Glow continues their upward trajectory with their latest album, 'Gemini Reign.' Making waves and carrying an unbeatable momentum, the sweet sounds of indie rock, shoegaze, and dream pop, have taken them to new heights with each release they put forth. The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based artists have been gigging hard in 2023 with a myriad of shows performed thus far, and as their undeniable work ethic has proven - there are no signs of stopping. Releasing their 4th studio album, 'Gemini Reign,' this past June with a single to expedite the band, this year has been nothing short of highlights for Smooth Retsina Glow. It's impossible not to get roped into 'Gemini Reign immediately as you click play on the introductory single, "Turn to Hubris." There's a mesmerizing ease that has you tapping your fingers and toes to the beat as you feel your worries wash away with Colin Wolf's croons transporting you. The feel-good guitar strums and timely percussion lull you into a head-bopping frenzy as you feast on the grit and authenticity Smooth Retsina Glow instills as a welcome message for what's to come. "Overcoming" greets us with a slowed-down tempo and the radiant Sarah Stoll's velvety vocals, which wrap us up in the dreamy ambiance that Smooth Retsina Glow offers. We love the versatility professed, and this peaceful approach spreads a soothing atmosphere over what we can expect through the album through the variety of electric and acoustic riffs, which touch on the personality traits of a Gemini. Showing off their many sides, the funk-influenced record "Bound by Desire" is the lead single off their album. Lush chords, a groovy tempo, and the duality of the vocal textures make this a fun track to jam to. Written by the band's guitarist and co-vocalist Colin Wolf, the single has earned them a second consecutive number one in Australia's Bank City Radio and Radioplay in Japan, the UK, Canada, and a slew of radio stations in The United States. Dipping into the melancholy and thought-provoking "All Your Past Times," nostalgia rushes us as we take this record in. The down-tempo ambiance whisks us into a pool of memories as we relic in the lyrical motifs conveyed. Artistic and meaningful, a beauty is etched into the songwriting of Smooth Retsina Glow that allows their words to live larger than life. We experience that throughout the album, but some songs hit differently depending on your state of mind - which the band masters effortlessly. "Backsliding" is another one of those songs that pulls you into a rabbit hole of melodic fusion, all while praying on your current dynamic state. Being the most eclectic song on the album, there's much to become fascinated with as you take in the production. A perfect concoction of melodic elements in the foreground and background shows Smooth Retsina Glow won't hold back in their expression. It's wild to us how a band can seamlessly take you into two varying moods in such a swift and cohesive motion. Going from track five to six, we're now excited and once again revisiting the grunge-like, amplified sound of boisterous energy they portray so well. "Short Handed" has us tapping into the edgy and carefree sides we want to let loose a little more. Encouraging that with an unapologetic persona and sizzling riffs, this song makes us feel like a bar fight is about to break out, and we're standing by with the popcorn. Taking in the back half of 'Gemini Reign, ' it's easy to see the complete structure that the band places in the tracklist. Now, swimming into the dreamy, pop sound of "She Won't Be Home," we're picking up hues of the early 2000s as Sarah Stoll channels a No Doubt meets Lily Allen-type vibe we're living for. Accompanied by instrumentation that allows her to flutter her dreamy vocals, everything in this record meshes with serendipity. Touring us into the free-falling, classic rock energy from "Obfuscate," who knew the ebb and flow of dream-pop to dad rock would have us this invested? But this isn't just any cookie-cutter song that fits into this description. "Obfuscate" gives us emotion and story in extremes through heartfelt lyrics that make their audience think over the instrumental fills. A desired concoction of pure musical balance. That is just what we aim for in great songwriting. Gently easing us into the remaining two records, every song has its appropriate place, and we're here for it all. Nothing sits better in our souls than the twang of a sparse guitar riff and delicate cymbals chiming in for the spotlight. Fitting the song's title, "Eternal Now," you get exactly what you think you would from this persuasively luscious track. Providing us with an emotion-fueled guitar solo like no other, there's something special about how "Eternal Now" is executed. You feel it amp in intensity, all while keeping the relaxed and laid-back zeal intended. Who else can do that but Smooth Retsina Glow? We've felt almost every emotion while taking in this album, and as we reach the last record and title track of the album, 'Gemini Reign,' we're offered up everything we may not have felt through the previous nine songs. There's a whirlwind of energy upon us, and for the final 7 minutes, we're graciously given a leave-it-all-on-the-table moment full of fills, solos, and abstract lyrics that will have you hanging on to the edge of your seat. Unraveling the organized chaos that's sonically dissected throughout these ten records, you'll be happy you checked out 'Gemini Reign' for yourself. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Smooth Retsina Glow! We're stoked your fourth studio album is out into the world to hear. What is the inspiration placed into this collection of songs on 'Gemini Reign?' The inspiration comes from all the diverse listening interests of the group- anything from Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Avenged Sevenfold, Lemon Twigs, Tool, Steely Dan, Spafford, King Gizzard, Plini, Turnstile, Madison Cunningham, and Soundgarden can be detected in our songs- but put together in our unique way, and this is undoubtedly a byproduct of our members all having different music tastes- but we are all able to accommodate each others preferences and gives us our character as an original act. Compared to your other albums, what sets 'Gemini Reign' apart from the rest? It's essentially the first time we, as a band, have achieved a sound that is of our creation - by that- we have been able to take all these elements from these artists and absorb it in a way that makes it cohesive, listenable, and challenging in the proper sense of the word. We are an alt-rock group with certain progressive overtones musically, and it has set the standard for which to follow. Our first record in 2019 was much more of a folk-rock record; our second in 21 saw that sound morph somewhat, although that was a bit too diverse for its good, and the third nearly got there- but it wasn't quite "our sound" yet. With Gemini Reign, we are confident we have our identity for the foreseeable future. Another aspect that differs is the aspect we were able to record all the tracks live, which gives it a feel that the records before didn't have ( the first and second, namely, the third, almost entirely done live). As a group, we were able to arrange our songs- written by our guitarist/ frontman Colin Wolf with increasing maturity. Each piece was diligently prepared and mapped out, and there was good energy in this lineup at the time that made the record. We picked up on such intentional placement from the tracklist. What was your motive for laying it out this way, and what type of journey do you aim to give your audience? Sequencing is a bit of a lost art, especially in modern music- with all the options afforded to us by downloading and being able to buy one track or however many it is you want- occasionally, the art of sequencing has fallen by the wayside- but many of the albums that have inspired us over the years have very creative and imaginative ways of sequencing an album that gives it the perfect mixture of contrasts- you'll find this, especially in classic acts like Led Zeppelin, Queen, King Crimson, Beach boys, and The Beatles. A lot of the other influences listed earlier also make good use of sequencing. Our music utilizes different keys, time signatures, and harmonic progression in our writing- and having those elements enable us to achieve a wide range of sonic potential. This record progresses logically and takes the ear on a 45-minute adventure that leaves you wanting more. Does each band member have a favorite song? Which track is it, and what's the reasoning behind the choice? Here are our favorites. Colin Wolf: Bound By Desire- after our first single's Overcoming success, it continued our trajectory upward, earning another Bank Radio Australia number 1 song of the week (the first time we achieved a consecutive number 1 on that station), and it was vital for me because I sang it in addition to writing it! Brian Derckas: Gemini Reign- the pseudo metal characteristic and odd time signature ( 7/8) Jacob Wolfe: Turn to Hubris: for its fuzzed characteristics and dreamy psychedelia, including a backward solo and the swirly sounds that underpin it. With 2023 being such a busy year for you, what do you enjoy the most about the downtime you've been given? What else in 2023 are you excited about what's coming up? As much as we enjoy performing at the level we do, a few evenings off are always a welcome recharge for everyone to hang out and get involved in our hobbies- which are as important as practicing- and it also gives us time away from each other. We work and play hard, which makes the downtime early in the week well-earned, so we appreciate those weeks we may not gig 6 or 5 times. The other aspect of timing away from music is a break from each other- while we all have good interpersonal relationships with each other, it's not like we're going to go hang out on off evenings to watch sports or go on a hike- time away is important for our recharging. Musicians' relationships are different from normal relationships- you need to have the right balance- but you also need time away from each other- because sometimes, too often, familiarity breeds contempt. We have about 60 more shows for the remainder of this year, and the big date to save is Saturday, August 12th, at Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pa- on Main Street Stage from 6.00 to 8.30, where you can expect mostly originals, but also a few covers as well. And every show is something we look forward to and give an infinite amount of enthusiasm to. Also- you can expect we will start laying down more songs in a month or so because we always got to keep pushing ahead of the game! Instagram
- Romel Sits Breaks Down Latest Single, “Slippin”
Welcome to BuzzMusic, Romel! First "Jordyn Woods" and now "Slippin," you've hit your stride! Could you take us through your creative process for "Slippin"? What kind of headspace were you in when you thought it up? I made Slippin' in 2019! It started as a slow trap soul-style song. And then, literally, the day before I was going to record it in the studio, I found the new beat it sits on now, which completely changed the game for me. The song makes me want to be outside in the sun and near water & Palm trees with a nice drink living my best life! What kind of music did you want to make when you first started? Is the music you make now what you imagined back then or different? I feel like I'm making it. I've always loved contemporary R&b. But I also like different genres, but I'm always trying to mix the other genres I like with R&B. What goals do you want to achieve through your music? I'm looking forward to live performances! Excited to experience the music with an audience. Been a big goal of mine to perform music that the crowd knows the lyrics passionately. For fans and listeners who might be trying to follow in your footsteps, what quality is most important for a musician? A team! It's so important. I know a lot of the time, being an independent artist is being able to say you've done everything yourself but having people you can rely on to help have your vision come to life hits differently. What comes after "Slippin?" Are there any upcoming performances, and can we expect to hear more new music soon? The new EP is coming! A few more singles, but I'm so excited for this project to be out in the world! And yes, definitely Live shows coming soon! Check out our full review of "Slippin" here. Instagram Twitter

Also featuring a gorgeous music video, “Call It” promises to stimulate both your eyes and your ears. Framed by beautifully melancholic instrumentals that freeze your heart from the first guitar stroke, “Call It” is a musical journey that’s sure to put you in your feels. An immersive experience in multiple ways, “Call It,” proves that Jakey's immense talent and quality on “Headphones” was not just a lucky shot, and we can’t wait to hear what else he has in store for us. Jakey’s new release, “Call It,” is an immersive, emotional offering that will pull at your heartstrings while finding a home in your R&B rotation. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jakey! We loved “Call It.” What a beautiful release! We Have to ask, what inspired you to make this song? Were you drawing from personal experience? Thank you so much for the love! “Call It” is very personal. It’s about one of those warm summer nights where time seems to slow down. This boy and I are getting lost in each other’s energy. Amidst all the intensity, though, doubts start creeping in. Like, are they feeling the same way? I'm craving that authenticity, that truth. I'm willing and ready to give my all - pouring my heart into this connection. But then I’m hit with the realization that maybe there's more to their story – some hidden truths or mixed emotions. “Call It”' is all about capturing that whirlwind of emotions – the passion, the doubts, the longing. It's a snapshot of a summer romance that's equally thrilling and vulnerable. I love this song so much. It always brings me back to where I was when I wrote this last summer. Spark up a J, and you’ll be vibing and in your feels too. You first burst onto the scene with your acclaimed debut single “Headphones,” right? What was it like to see your first piece of music get released? What’s been your favorite part of being an artist so far? I have to say; it is so f***ing cool. I don’t think it will ever get old. Working on a project for so long and watching it come to life is so gratifying. Like. I did that!!!!!! I had this vision inside my head and had the opportunity to collaborate with some incredible creatives. So far, my favorite part about being an artist is being in the driver's seat. I am the driving force of Jakey. I have the final say. I feel so lucky to have surrounded myself with a team who fully supports my vision and wants me to win. What originally inspired you to start making music, and what inspires you to continue now? I've been making music forever. It started with humming random tunes but got more serious in college. I wrote a bunch of unreleased records back then, which are the building blocks of my current success. Some of those records are pure gold and trust me, they'll see daylight sooner than later. I used to write to vent, and I still do, but after three years in the game, my biggest inspiration is making music I'd listen to myself. I create for my own ears and constantly push my sound to new heights. It's not just music; it's a loop of me inspiring myself to keep the fire burning. How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before, and what does music mean to you? My music is just a vibe. I find that it doesn’t take up space. It’s there for you to consume when you see fit. I never want to impose my music and become an artist that just throws songs at you. I am super intentional with my art and want to ensure the quality is always there. It will def get you in your feels, though! Don’t be fooled! Music is so universal. It is healing. Any language, any genre, any artist - music has the power to move people. For me, though, it's not some mystical journey. It's just me, letting it all out, living my truth through beats and rhymes. Simple as that. What’s next for Jakey? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? Duh! I have a few more releases planned throughout the fall and some exciting visuals to accompany them. I am working on my first full-length project, which I can not wait to share in the new year. I feel like I haven't scratched the surface of what I can accomplish creatively. I am so excited to continue experimenting and finding this new sound. To my fans, if there are any, just thank you. The next few years will be wild for me and my career. The future is bright. It’s only up from here. Jakey loves you. Instagram
- Dedrick Reminds Us That He’ll “Never Fall”
From using music as a form of expression and getting lost in the songs that influenced his path, Dedrick has been perfecting his craft for a sling as he can remember. Hailing from Austin, Texas, creativity runs through his veins as he's managed to use his musical and non-musical influences, such as Dave Chapelle, Eminem, Tupac, and Michael Jordan, as a blueprint for his artistry all while shaping his musicality in a way, custom to him. His latest release, "Never Fall," kicks it all up a notch and truly showcases his knack for rhyming, combined with his admiration for precision and technicality, solidifying his dedication to the art of rap. Speaking from his soul as he professes the truths of his life, Dedrick speaks on the motions of the day-in and day-out lifestyle he lives as an artist trying to make it and a father trying to provide for his family. Paired with an enticing set of visuals that lives out the lyricism and storytelling Dedrick sprinkles throughout the song, we're hooked on the suspense and tension of Dedrick and his heated rebuttal live from the studio. Trying to stay true to himself while emanating the passion he has within, we see Dedrick profusely pleading his case to his team as the gestures he's conveying signify where his mind is at in this discussion. Ultimately he is doing everything he can but can't keep up with the outside pressures weighing in. This masterpiece has a dynamic essence as Dedrick leaves the studio and goes to his most important role in life - at home as a father. Coming home to his family and sharing his rhymes with plush toys and reflections of himself in the mirror, we get to peep into the vulnerability Dedrick bares as he encourages honesty and speaks on the real-life matters he's facing at hand. Taking us to the final moments of "Never Fall," where he continues to reassure listeners and viewers that he won't fall; he'll "never fall," we see Dedrick for who he truly is as an artist and human doing his best. Dedrick fearlessly embraces the challenges that lie ahead. He is poised to make his mark in the music industry with nothing to lose and everything to gain. Instagram Facebook
- Alice Austin Asks, “Could I Come Back" In New Single
The LA-based musician keeps us on our toes with this fresh new release. A dynamic musician whose music career saw her move from her native Vermont to the sunset-soaked streets of Los Angeles, Alice Austin has always been destined for big things. A versatile artist who defies characterization, she’s held her audiences spellbound with enchanting releases like “Left One In The Rain” and “Goodnight Euphoria.” With her latest album, “Break The Spell,” by all accounts, maintaining and at some points even exceeding the standard she set for herself with her previous soft rock album, “Goodnight Euphoria,” this artist’s flame will continue to burn brighter than ever. By all accounts, a musical shapeshifter, Austin’s latest album, “Break The Spell,” manifests Austin’s artistic ethos. Shedding the soft rock influences of “Goodnight Euphoria” for retro synth pop influences instead, “Break The Spell” shows Austin’s ability to keep the hits rolling no matter the genre. Through channeling her artistic talents, genuine love for her craft, and a sixth sense for addictive melodies, Austin has forged genuine connections with her listeners through her music, something all too rare in the current scene. As she continues to release hit after hit, we can’t wait to see what musical direction her fancy will take us next. “Could I Come Back” is one of Austin’s recent releases and a standout offering, even with the stacked list for “Break The Spell.” Featuring spellbinding synth instrumentals with a delicious old-school vibe, “Could I Come Back” is a sonically expansive offering that’s sure to be a hit with fans of the retro synth-pop genre. Accompanied by a gorgeous music video that sees Austin dust off her rollerblades, there’s a little something for everyone. Describing the music video as “a fun expression of 80’s arcade and roller skate daydreams”, the vocal and visual performance feel perfectly matched. Austin’s dreamy vocals pull you into her hazy dream soundscape as she jams, skates, and sings on camera. The tasteful use of hazy and saturated filters enhances the old-school vibe of the video, making the whole project a cohesive and enticing release. Effortlessly making a hairpin turn from the heady psychedelic indie rock of “Goodnight Euphoria” for cotton candy-sweet pop reminiscent of a first date at the county fair on “Break The Spell,” Alice Austin continues her impressive run of diverse releases. Whenever you’re ready to be transported into the vast, dreamy soundscape she’s created, tap in and stream her new release, “Could I Come Back,” and her whole “Break The Spell” album, available on all major streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Alice Austin! We loved “Could I Come Back.” It had such a classy retro vibe to it! We had to ask, what was the inspiration behind this song? Could I Come Back is the second track off my new album, Break The Spell, which just dropped July 7th. The whole album has this aesthetic because I just wanted to do an old-school record with real players, real instruments, and songs that feel familiar but completely new. I chose this one for the official video because it is simply fun to move to. What was your favorite part of bringing your vision for “Could I Come Back” to life? Collaborating with talented people who have great ideas is always the most fun part for me. This is the second album I’ve done with my producer and friend David Drouin, and mixing engineer Timothy Phillips. And the video was also a blast with the director, Harry Katz, the crew, and my band. I love putting my trust in people and seeing their ideas spark based on how they hear the music. You recently released your album “Break The Spell,” right? Other than “Could I Come Back,” do you have any favorites on that album? The last song on the album, “That’s Where I Live,” is one of those that just brings me comfort. How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before? Well, I’d play it for them, haha… but I’m a songwriter at heart, and I love to experiment with different genres. My last album, Goodnight Euphoria, had mostly a vintage 70s soft rock vibe, and Break the Spell has an 80s synth-pop sound. What’s next for Alice Austin? On September 1st, I’m releasing the Deluxe version of Break The Spell on Bandcamp only. It includes an acoustic demo track and a cover of Cyndi Luper’s “All Through The Night.” Instagram

- Cold Engines Takes Us On Emotional Walk Through New Album “Flower Covered Hills – The Final Chapter"
The Boston outfit invites you on an enchanting musical journey. Rising from the ashes of The Brew, Boston’s Cold Engines is a melody-driven rock project that burst onto the scene in 2015 and never looked back. Drawing influence from timeless acts like The Police, Queen, and The Smiths, they’ve managed the difficult balancing act of marrying classic influences with modern production, lending a contemporary edge to their releases that are as refreshing as it is compelling. Having made it their mission to capture the urgency and catchiness of the golden era of pop music, their new album promises to be a blast from the past in the best way possible. One thing about Cold Engines is that they know how to put on a show. After their initial ascent in 2015, they went on a prolific run of 15 releases and over 140 annual shows, supporting respected acts like Los Lobos, Bobby Keyes, and Blues Traveler. Their dedication to their artistic ideals comes through every release, making any Cold Engines project distinct and appealing. Their talent has been noticed by their peers, too; they’ve been nominated for “Rock Band Of The Year” in both 2016 and 2022, as well as “Song Of The Year” and “Album Of The Year” at the New England Music Awards. Having shown no signs of slowing down, these veterans of the scenes will be pumping out hits for a long time. The aptly named “Flower Covered Hills - The Final Chapter” is Cold Engine’s latest project. It’s many things; polished, vintage, and sonically appealing, but Cold Engine’s ability to capture the tangled intricacies of emotion and tie them cohesively on this album makes it stand out the most. The “Flower Covered Hills - The Final Chapter” feels like a late afternoon foray during the fall. At times warm, at times a little chillier, the tone of the album maintains the feeling of an ebbing tide for the first half, as more upbeat or vibrant offerings like the opening song “Roaming Again” and “Saving Grace” are followed by the comparatively more melancholy “Lifted” and “Find Each Other.” That isn’t to say that Cold Engines remains down in the dumps, though, as on releases like “Lifted,” although the tone is slightly melancholy, there’s the feeling that life will go on and good times may still be ahead. On the 5th track, “The Painting,” it feels like we turn on a corner, as although the instrumentals remain a little more upbeat, lines like “Every step feels like the deep end” and “Sometimes I stand there, and I start to stare / Until I feel so blue” hint at a more melancholy resolution. This continues as the mellow, gentle sympathies of “Clouds” give way to features like the tender piano instrumentals and vocals of “Farewell.” On the album's closing single, “Daydream,” Cold Engines gently and peacefully concludes the album. There’s the distinct feeling of a dream coming to an end or the sun setting on this adventure, but a distinct feeling of lingering peace and satisfaction is left. Cold Engine’s newly released album “Flower Covered Hills - The Final Chapter” is an easily enjoyable offering that takes us down memory lane in the best way possible. Feeling at times like a serene dream, this release may be called “The Final Chapter,” but we’re hoping there will be much more to come from these standout musicians. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream Cold Engine’s new album, “Flower Covered Hills - The Final Chapter,” now. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Cold Engines! We loved your new album “Flower Covered Hills - The Final Chapter”! We wanted to ask, where did the inspiration for this album come from? Could you tell us the inspiration behind the name too? Thank you for inquiring! The inspiration came from us building this sort of musical dream world through the last two LPs. We wanted to do something very acoustic and otherworldly. After chapter two was completed, we wrote and recorded the final chapter pulling from the musical vein of the previous two records and reflecting on the last six months between chapter two and this, the final chapter. These albums have been a departure for us, being a complete full-length trilogy and leaning into our strengths outside of electric instruments. The name of the trilogy Flower Covered Hills, just felt like a beautiful image of peace and wonder. What was your favorite part about bringing the vision for “Flower Covered Hills - The Final Chapter” to life? Writing is always a fun part. It feels like opening a window and letting the subconscious freely float into the room. From there, we grab the goods inside our hearts and minds and channel them into the most honest songs we can with little to no editing. Our best friend and magical engineer, Tim Phillips, mixes and masters our records, and hearing his mixes is one of the best parts! Getting to play music with my best friends is truly the greatest gift. The band on this record is Aaron Zaroulis on drums, Geoff Pilkington on percussion, Adam Saylor on bass, and Seth Campbell on keys. There are usually a few guest stars, and the process of combining everyone’s ideas and passion is the biggest reward. Love is our driving force. Do you have any favorites on this album? Also, for anyone aiming to follow in your footsteps, what quality is most important for a successful artist? I love the song Clouds from this record. It had a potent vibe and felt strong as it flowed out. This trilogy is very cinematic, and that song has a fantastic time and place to its sound. As far as a quality for a successful artist to have, the only thing I can think of is defining your success and having fun. How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard it before? I usually don’t describe our music because too many records swing wildly from prog, metal, instrumental, singer/songwriter, retro wave, rock, R&B, funk, and a bunch of stuff in between. This trilogy is undoubtedly on the psychedelic folk side of our discography and was an accident in so many ways. We never really set out to make anything particular. We kind of stay open to what needs to come out artistically. What’s next for Cold Engines? Can we expect to see any performances soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? Yes, we are playing a bunch, and we are a tight-knit group of friends who play together in a couple of bands and love each other a lot. As always, we hope our art helps people feel less alone and move them in whatever way possible. Instagram
- Watching You Unravel Is Tearing Hillsboro Apart On Their Emotional New Single “Leaving”
The BC outfit shows how tough it is to watch someone you care about struggle. Hillsboro is an exciting new act coming out of Victoria and Vancouver that has quickly captivated audiences with relatable and thought-provoking music at its core. Consisting of a band of friends that have known each other since childhood, their music has a keen emphasis on creating music that reflects the human experience. Founded in 2019 as Nima Walker's project, Hillsboro soon evolved into a collective musical journey after he convinced his friends to join him on this grand artistic adventure. Having already put itself on the map with enticing releases like "Release Plan," Hillsboro has positioned itself to become a major creative force in the industry for a long time, especially with its debut EP set to drop in September. With Dexter Hodgins on fiddle and drums, Oliver Hollingshead on drums, Tucker Hoey on bass, and Samuel Wells on guitar, it sometimes feels like all the pieces came perfectly together for Hillsboro. The heightened level of chemistry among the bandmates is evident, resulting in a seamless fusion in their sound that elevates the listening experience for fans. Hillsboro's music, usually characterized by gritty textures, immersive (and sometimes distorted) melodies, and compelling storylines, can be described as a striking musical journey; it may leave you feeling sad or happy, but as all good trips do, it leaves a striking impression that evokes emotion. On Hillsboro's latest release, "Leaving," an emotional and gripping vocal performance meets a nostalgic yet haunting and powerful melody. Again, the band's impressive chemistry is on full display, as Walker's misty-eyed and slightly melancholic vocals meld seamlessly with droning guitars and driving bass. The song's feel is nostalgic yet sad, with Hillsboro stating that the single "Delves into themes of heartache and the pain of watching loved ones unravel. Accompanied by a visually gripping music video that pays homage to the cult classic "Drugstore Cowboy," "Leaving" is an all-around great release that's sure to have something for everyone to enjoy. - Get Ready To Be Sent Through An Ethereal Rabbit Hole With Ero Seagull’s New Single
Greek-Canadian artist Ero Seagull was introduced to music by playing the piano at age six. After finishing school, she decided to hone her creative talents with a degree at the prestigious Bretton Hall University in Leeds, studying Theatre studies/Dramaturgy. It was there when Ero Seagull started writing her own music and met Leon Rhymes (Too Many T's), who told her of The Peoples Music Awards in London, where she entered and won the judges' round in the Off The Beaten Track category with one judge stating, "She's a category of her own." So she played at the prestigious Scala Venue in London. As we transport ourselves into Ero's musical universe's eclectic and desirable essence, we're gifted with the sonic mirage "You Send Me." A collaboration with up-and-comers in the industry, Aimilia Mhlou and the Japanese band AINAKANNA, the ethereal ambiance that's emanated is truly otherworldly as listeners can expect to be catapulted into the creative minds of these emerging artists. The use of vocal effects sends us to the oblivion of reverberated croons that take on a melodic structure at some points but a more spoken-out rap style at others. As we sway through the mind-bending atmosphere of "You Send Me," one thing remains consistent: the passionate energy injected into this record. The samples bring a nostalgic feel as the production elements convey much of the power. Blended with the abstract nature of lyrical motifs like, "I don't know if I'm afraid to stay on my own. One thing I know for sure, losing you is a loss. When in flesh we roll in such a flow. Ι look into your eyes you gaze into awe," the narrative of this record entices us with a flood of free-flowing memories custom to each listener's perspective. The multilingual collaboration offers such a refreshing take on the genre-defying world that it's impossible not to get roped into "You Send Me." Ero Seagull promotes the beauty within the interpretation by pushing the envelope and encouraging listeners to explore the depths of their minds. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Ero Seagull! We're thrilled to dive into your latest record sincerely, "You Send Me." With such poignant energy coming from this song, what moment or story inspired the creation of this song? First of all, thank you for having me! I'm a big fan of yours! We wrote this song as a special tribute to our parents, who have never received the credit they deserve in pieces. It's a way to honor and appreciate them. I wrote my part for my mother, with whom I have a powerful bond, and I consider her my angel on earth. Aimilia wrote her part as a heartfelt tribute to her late father and dedicated it to his loving memory. As for AINAKANNA, according to what my Japanese friend Sachiko Takahashi told me, it sounds like a Haiku poem. This song was first presented at the KANSAI MUSIC CONFERENCE in Japan, which is quite the accolade. How has the reception been from an international standpoint? KANSAI MUSIC CONFERENCE was an experience on its own. It was really well received! I needed to participate in KMC, where I had the honor of being the final act. KMC is developing and fostering a global community of artists, fans, and industry to introduce music and culture to Japan and beyond. This event was such an opportunity to collaborate with AINAKANNA because, through this occasion, we created "You Send Me," it was a significant moment for my music career. Let's discuss how magnificent you, Aimilia Mhlou, and AINAKANNA sound on this track together. Your styles collide effortlessly! How did this collaboration come to be, and what did the creative process look like when bringing life to "You Send Me"? In 2004 I created a mashup with songs that included Sam Cooke's track "You Send Me." During a discussion with my producer FatData, he proposed turning this sample into a piece. He and then the producer Bhukhurah created the mix of our music "You Send Me," Dimitris from Electricity Sound Studio did the finalization. Now, regarding my collaboration with AINAKANNA and Aimilia Mhlou, we built bridges with our music via the wonders of technology. We live in a new age of global music, where artists from diverse cultures and backgrounds connect and collaborate. We were in different spaces, and music was joining us. This era has witnessed the world becoming more interconnected, allowing musicians to transcend geographical boundaries and bring unique flavors to the global music scene. From multiple releases to international attention, what has been your proudest moment in your career thus far? There are many beautiful moments in my career, but the one that has defined me was at The Peoples Music Awards when I gave my first gig at the Scala venue in London. There was a profound revelation within me that pursuing music is my true passion and what I want to do with my life. The energy and excitement of the moment reaffirmed my dedication to a musical career. I write poetry and have also written a book, "Ero and the Remembrance," but through music, you can communicate your message immediately to an audience. This has great power and impact. This is why I write music and continue with my forthcoming album, "Revolution." It is a way to communicate messages globally. What message would you like your audience to take away from "You Send Me?" Initially, I'd like to share that creating it was a fantastic journey. It's beautiful when creative ideas come to life through collaboration with talented professionals. Moments like these can shape one's life and artistic journey. Furthermore, I want to tell the audience that life is not a rehearsal. It's the actual act, and we should be present. I dedicated my part to my mother because when I was down and out during a challenging period, my mother's unwavering support and encouragement helped me recover and find my way back to life. Her love and guidance were instrumental in my journey to overcome difficulties and move forward. She and my dad uplifted me and inspired me in times of need. It's like they gave birth to me again. It's heartwarming when people who love you support you during tough times. We should be open to receiving the signals to stand together! Instagram Facebook
- Kosta Lois And Jonathan Mouton Raise The Question: Can You Really Be “Just Friends?"
If you ask people what Kosta Lois can't do, they will remain mighty silent. To sum up, the multifaceted Los Angeles creative reigns as an award-winning producer, composer, songwriter, and musician. Having grown up in a musical family with a rich international musical background, Kosta not only works behind the scenes with some of music's hottest up-and-coming artists and hit songwriters - but loves to also express himself as an artist through his timeless productions and personal record label, Onesta Music Group. Known to get the party started and drive his audience into atmospheres they didn't know they needed, Kosta Lois is an energetic ball of R&B meets dance fusion. Taking this title and running with it, "Just Friends" is the latest single his inimitable repertoire hurdles forth. The classic melodies he hones are reminiscent of the sounds of the 90s and early 2000s, all while embodying this lively energy that sits ever so gently in our souls. It just feels right when Kosta Lois is playing through the speakers. You hear just how he draws on worldly influences, and quite frankly, it's a breath of fresh air to listen to the reverberated harmonies he floats upon nostalgic instrumentation. If this track wasn't spicy enough, he has recruited vocalist and songwriter Jonathan Mouton to add to the seamless concoction of rhythm and an adorned narrative. However, it's worth adding that although Kosta Lois has a pronounced, radio-ready pop sound, there's nothing generic about the steamy lyrics and desired connection yearning from "Just Friends." When getting into the song's origin and the deeper meaning behind these intoxicating words we can't get out of our heads, Kosta says, "We sat in the studio and wrote out the song's melodies together. He then came to me with his lyrics, which he describes as following the sensual mood of the music, imagining that you wrote a journal entry about your friend revealing your love for them, and they found it." From what we've gathered from the lyrical chronicle caster Jonathan Mouton, amazing relationships may stem from solid friendships. Still, there's a blurred line when transitioning this extra mile into the physical realm of a relationship. If you want the tea served piping hot, do yourself a favor and press play on "Just Friends." Welcome to BuzzMusic, Kosta! We're thrilled to have you here chatting about your latest single, "Just Friends." With a spicy narrative and the curiosity that stems from this record, let's dive into what the creative process looked like when you and Jonathan Mouton were creating. Hey, thank you so much! Yes, well, the creative process stemmed from the music itself. Just Friends started with me putting a lot of energy into making a great instrumental track. I love dance and electronic music with many synths and keys, so I wanted to make something creative in that direction with a sexy vibe. I also like painting a visual picture with sound and inspiring a story. When Jonathan, the vocalist and co-writer, came and heard the track, much like we always do, we talked about the music and the emotions it brings out. Jonathan caught on to the sensual style of the music. He and I then collaborated on what the vocal melodies should be. I had a strong idea for the song's chorus, which he ran with, and then we bounced ideas back and forth until the rest of the vocal melodies came together. We then spoke about lyric themes in which J thought of going in the direction of a guy in love with their friend who wants to push the envelope and blur the lines into a romantic relationship. He returned to me the next day with some lyrics, which we tweaked a little, and then the rest is history! How does it feel to bring forth a song that someone else writes versus yourself? Do you have to tap deeper into any emotions or headspaces to make it come to life? Well... To expand on your question, even though I didn't write the lyrics to this one, we still collaborate in the direction the lyrics go. Remember, this song started with the music. And I have to love lyrics before putting them out and putting my stamp on them. As with any artist I work with, a great song is a great one! Even if I don't write a song at all, if I love the song, I will produce it and put it out! I always wonder about artists who aren't open to putting out HIT songs that are not theirs because you are still putting your voice or production on the songs and making them your own. And how many stories have we heard of artists who didn't want to sing someone else's song, for instance, but that song made their entire career? I didn't have to tap into anything because the music was mine; I already felt that vibe and watched the rest of a fantastic story come to life. You have a refreshing sound that taps into various genres and subgenres. How would you describe your sound for people who still need to check your music? You know what, that's an excellent question. I've not defined my sound completely; I'm trying not to put myself in a box even though I should think more about it. I always go towards what I love and what feels good. If you check out my work, you'll see that I love rhythmic pop with pristine, usually R&B-style vocals and some integrity in the song and production. That's a big reason why I named my label Onesta Music Group. "Onesta" is "Honest" in Italian. It describes my mission - to make honest music. If I'm not on a rhythmic kick, I also like to dig into other influences- piano-driven music, ballads, and jazz-inspired songs. But lately, I am pushing out chart-topping bangers for my specific artist project! As a producer working with various artists, what do you take away from each experience you encounter? Whenever I work with an artist, I learn something new and improve my work. I also want to become a better person and make the world a better place through the music we create. I've learned that any great song with the right artist is magic and that you don't have to change the artist but help make them the most excellent possible version of themselves. And I love working with artists from rock to pop to R&B, hip hop to country, poetic singer-songwriters, crooners to international singers, and everything in between. It's made me appreciate the culture of music that I'm lucky to work in daily and make my passion. What are you looking forward to before closing the year out? I'm looking forward to putting out the positive energy to meet more amazing new artists to work with! Looking for those unique acts that are out there. Kosta Lois Instagram Jonathan Mouton Instagram
