- Grim’s Got The Shakes On Their Electrifying Release “Funk Jam”
The Albertan outfit continues to push itself to greater heights. Grim is a rock & roll band out of Alberta that's been building a buzz recently with their refreshing brand of loose and fast southern Rock N' Roll sound. Inspired by their hometown heroes Dusty Tucker, they were formed in the winter of 2015 by brothers Alex and Ryan Grimberg. Initially turning heads with the release of their self-titled album in 2019, they've since gone from strength to strength. They've spent their time honing their skills through grinding the local tour and the studio, and as a result, every glimpse we've gotten of their upcoming sophomore album "Grim II" indicates it's going to be one for the ages. There's something freeing about good, fast, and loose rock n' roll. Grim think on the same wavelength, as their releases have been imbued with the spirit of good old southern rock n' roll since their debut. Grim has undoubtedly set a high standard, with songs like "The Old Saloon" and "Blood" setting an impressive precedent for their releases. They've impressively managed to keep it, though, and with "Grim II" on the horizon, they've been even more laser focused than usual. "Funk Jam," one of Grim's latest releases and the second single from "Grim II," is a rousing rock n' roll ode to life and the grind. Over soaring and uplifting rock n' roll instrumentals that fittingly incorporate an ever so slight hint of funk, Grim makes lyrics like "Out late, up early / The clock read 11:30 / it was hot and unnerving" and "It was dark as she was talkin' / The eyes burn holes through me / Jack D or Jimmy bean / don't matter much to me" sound exhilarating. It's a perfect introduction to Grim's witty and special artistic abilities, and we can't wait to see what else they show us on "Grim II." Alberta's Grim continues to blaze their trail in the scene brightly, and with their new release, "Funk Jam," they seem to be getting better and better with each release. Cheers to dropping a banger with “Pressure,” on which you've created a unique blend of reflection and rawness. What inspired you to tackle these seemingly contrasting themes within the same song, and how do you think they complement each other? I am inspired because it was just a joke when I started. But now, I have developed myself into something else, which inspired me to do more in my music, lyrics, and my choices in general. Also, the support I needed was always there from my friends and family, which inspired me to take charge in the music industry. I’m still learning and mastering my own techniques/skills to be where I want to be. But the themes are just who I am as a man and what goals I plan to achieve. I always like to keep things straight up to 100, and the truth comes with it. I can also say that it’s real in what I say in my verses. The West Coast trap vibe in "Pressure" is hard-hitting and memorable. How did you develop this particular sound, and were any specific influences or experiences that led you to create this style for the track? The way I develop my sounds is through tones in music. I match my melodies to the beats, and the beat drops in forms that make the song sound better than usual. Since I was youngin, I’ve always had a rough childhood growing up with drugs, gangs, and killing in violence. I realized that shit ain’t for me, and I express my sound through my lyrics, successes, mistakes, and failures. So, I created my style and flow the way I want. It took a couple of years to match my flow to certain beats. But now I’m willing to change my genres sooner or later to try something new to me. One of the standout elements in "Pressure" is your captivating storytelling. Can you share any personal experiences or stories that influenced the lyrics, and how do you connect with these themes when performing the song? A Personal experience I had was when I was 16, and I had a lot going on from school to work, and I was also trapping thinking it was the best for me. But the pressure was on me, and the balance wasn’t there. My mind wasn’t in the right place at the right time, and eventually lost what I worked hard for. I realized that my head was thinking too much about the present and not enough about what I wanted for my future. So I took things slow, watched my motions and made it my motive. Now I’m a Chef at a steakhouse and have the skills and knowledge to succeed in multiple careers. But my true passion in my vision is being a music artist. I would connect themes with my lyrics, my tempo and my tone. I want to make my music all natural and original, from making my own beats to recording and mastering my own music. This will show me who I am through my words and actions, especially when performing live. The song title "Pressure" can have various interpretations. What does the concept of pressure mean to you, both in terms of the song and in your life as an up-and-coming artist? How do you handle the pressure to succeed, especially in a competitive industry? The concept of “Pressure” could mean many things in this situation, just from how “Heat” or “Fire” the bars and verse come. I also would put pressure on their ears or how it can be put on them in any situation. It all depends on where you put that pressure, and for me, I put the pressure on myself and my verses to improve and improve. I would handle the pressure by controlling situations that a normal person wouldn’t, and to succeed, I would put the pressure and the weight on my shoulders to do more in the music industry and to create better flows that most can’t match. The pressure would lead to my improvements in abilities and skills. As "Pressure" is sure to gain traction and showcase your raw talent, what are your plans for the future? How do you envision your growth as an artist, and what can fans expect from you regarding upcoming projects or collaborations? My plans in the future are to take off in the Music Industry and show everyone the raw talent and skills that I have. I want to be able to go on tours and shows to make a name for myself. I can envision my growth by investing more in my self-promotions and, sooner or later, working with big collaborations. They can expect more music videos coming along the way and finishing projects for EPs and Albums. Also to find more collaborations soon with people that can help me get to where I want. Instagram
- Emilee Moore Takes Her Career To New Heights With “Up In The Sky”
Emilee Moore is an LA-based singer/songwriter and TikTok sensation known for her sweet, airy vocals and evocative lyricism, touching the hearts of audiences worldwide. Her hit record, "Up In The Sky," was made in tribute to her grandmother—one of the initial victims of COVID in North America—and has transcended to become a cultural phenomenon. Hospital restrictions barred Emilee from bidding her final farewell, a sorrowful experience that fueled the creation of this powerful single. With 2.5 million direct views and over 20 million through shared creator content, "Up In The Sky" became a universal anthem of loss and healing. "Up In The Sky" is not just a song — it is a cathartic journey, a heartfelt goodbye, and a tribute to those who departed during the pandemic. The lyrics echo Emilee's longing for her grandmother, expressing the pain of her absence and the hope of her continued presence in spirit. "Where did you go? I miss you so much; I'm all alone. But I can feel you here daily; you're with me." Emilee sings, reflecting her grief but also the universal experience of loss and longing for loved ones who are "up in the sky." What amplifies the song's impact is the stunning visual element of Emilee's memorable performance, which took place in a hot air balloon, earning the title World's Highest Concert. The balloon served as a celebration of lives lost, providing a moment of solace and an opportunity for healing and closure. Emilee recounts this as the pinnacle of her personal and artistic journey, an event that illustrates her duality as a gifted musician and a visionary. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Emilee Moore, and congratulations on your latest release, "Up in the Sky." With an impressive repertoire of hits to your name, it's clear that you were born to be a musician. Your ethereal vocals and nostalgic melodies make each song an unforgettable listening experience. How did you initially discover your passion for music? Thank you so much! I grew up in a very musical family. So I was always surrounded by music, which shaped my passion. I started classical piano training at the age of 6 and did that for 11 years, and then I was also in choir and band in elementary and high school. I also grew up in church, and music was a massive part of my experience in that environment. I've always loved it and always knew I wanted it to be a part of my life in some way when I grew up, and now I'm here :) Which artists, bands, or songs have influenced your musical style the most, and how would you describe your sound? I pull from many different influences depending on the song, but Coldplay, John Mayer, Julia Michaels, and Taylor Swift are some core influences. I would describe my sound as "heartbreak," haha. All I care about is the feeling. If it feels profoundly emotional and gives me chills, that's the sound I'm looking for. "Up In The Sky" shares a heartfelt narrative that has connected with millions, whether for its soothing melody or relatable lyrics. Can you walk us through creating "Up In The Sky?" Creating this song has been a journey. After losing my grandma to Covid, I watched the movie Up and couldn't help but think what the theme song would sound like with lyrics over it. The words just flew out of me..so I recorded it, posted it on TikTok, and immediately went viral, which I was not expecting. I think some people needed to hear that they weren't alone in their feelings about grief, which made the song connect the most. A huge community formed surrounding the song and the original TikTok, and it's been so special to see it all unfold since then. I could do a music video including photos of people's loved ones that had passed the day the song came out. Then I just released another music video of me performing the song in a hot air balloon a couple of months back, featuring videos of people's loved ones on the balloon fabric in the sky. It's all been incredibly impactful and the most emotional and beautiful thing I've ever had the chance to do. I feel so grateful for all of it and am so lucky to have shared this moment of personal grief and have it be welcomed with open arms by a whole community that needed each other during this time. How has performing at the "World's Highest Concert" impacted your career and overall outlook on performance? This performance is one of the most epic and terrifying yet fulfilling and powerful things I've done so far in my career. I think this experience taught me that no idea is too big. And if you go into something with heart and purpose, you can do anything. I'm so grateful I could do this for myself, to say bye to my grandma and play that song for her in the sky, and to share that experience with so many other loved ones that we've all lost simultaneously. Including so many people in this made it the most special experience, it could have been. And to share that moment with the pilot Denni thousands of feet in the sky was also very impactful. There are many ways to perform and share a song, and this was the most special way it could have been done for this song. I will be doing more epic performances in the future, and this proved to me that doing the "hard thing" will always bring the greatest reward and have the most impact. What message or lesson do you hope listeners take away from music? I hope my music makes them feel less alone. Life is hard. Heartbreak is hard. And grief is complicated. But you don't have to go through the heaviness of life alone. And I hope my music makes you feel understood and provides comfort in the moments you need it most. Instagram Facebook

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Second Hand Mojo! We loved “Kiss My Baby Goodnight,” what a refreshing take on a classic genre! We had to ask, what was the creative process like for this release? Thank You! For this one, the start was from a riff I (Vern) played before practice with Scott, our drummer. As the guys came in and got ready, they joined and added something to the song. James said the middle section breakdown. MarQ (‘Q’) had a massive organ intro and outro (our resident Keith Emerson guy). Chuck first started with lyrics and melody phonetically and then developed them to the finished state. Once that was done, we were on our way to “Kiss My Baby Goodnight.” Please give us the Second Hand Mojo origin story! How did the band come to be, and did all of you know each other before? Scott and I knew each other from a previous project(s). Our last project had run its course, and we wanted to continue to create and perform. I had some songs written, and we began looking for members. After meeting and trying out a bunch of guys, we finally landed on Chuck. He found us through a Craigslist ad. He came in, was prepared, and we even started writing in that meeting. Next up was James. Chuck and James knew each other from the Toledo music scene when they were in competing bands. Chuck got James to drop in, and he has been with us ever since. MarQ and I were in another band playing with David Winans. I asked him if he could come by and see if he wanted to play keys for this project. He was the final piece, and this was the line-up from that day. What has been your favorite part of being a musician and being able to put your music out so far? For me, it is a surprise when someone connects with it on any level. Be it the other guys or a person in the audience. It amazes me that one person with their own set of circumstances, triumphs, and trials can hear something and connect with another person or persons in 3 or 4 minutes. How would you describe your music to someone who has not heard it before? I usually describe it as follows: If You like Classic Rock from the ’60s to the ’90s, we will sound vaguely familiar. It is all original, but it will not be hard to hear some of our influences in the songs. What is next for Second Hand Mojo? Your new EP “Second Helpings” is slated for release sometime soon, right? Are any projects off “Second Helpings” that you are excited for your fans to hear? Yes, Second Helpings (the EP) is slated for release later this year or early next year. As for immediate plans, we have a slate of shows this year and plans for several more single releases and videos. We are all excited about all the music on this recording. Each track has its personality. Instagram Facebook
- Taylor Jules Releases A Dark And Playful Single, “Adickted”
LA artist tries something new with her new release. The verdict’s in; she succeeded. Hailing from the vibrant city of Los Angeles, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Taylor Jules has captivated audiences everywhere with her unfiltered self-expression and ability to connect and inspire listeners everywhere. She’s embodied the meaning of resilience with her artistry, and tellingly, although she’s gone through her fair share (and more) of challenges, she refuses to let them define her. The result has been a free artistic spirit that inspires others with timeless music, and as she continues to blaze her trail across the industry brightly, we can’t wait to see how far she’ll go. Growing up on the Westside of Los Angeles, Jules was immersed in the allure of the entertainment industry from a young age. She took the stage for the first time at just five years old, setting her on a path to share the spotlight with musical legends like Jackson Browne, Robbie Krieger, and Matt Sorum (of Guns N’ Roses). Her musical influences, including Anne Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Allen Stone, and Carole King, have influenced her artistic direction, but Jules has forged her path. Recently, she’s opened up about her lifelong struggles with auto-immune diseases, adding another impressive layer to resilience. Jules refuses to let anything keep her down, and her indomitable spirit permeates each release she puts out. “Adickted” is the impressive result of Jules experimenting and expanding her artistic range once again. Although Jules embraces a darker, more intelligent side of her that we’re not used to seeing, “Adickted” works as Jules taps into the psyche of a “woman scorned.” Over initially subdued instrumentals that subtly build up at times to mirror Jule’s intensity, she paints a vivid picture of the love-scarred woman. Dropping lyrics like “once upon a time I was scared of your prickly smile and attempts to control my mind / but now I see it clear as day,” Jules completely envelops you in her soundscape and wraps you up in her story. With “Adickted,” Jules has proven her versatility and capacity to evolve and learn new things, as well as the ability to make compelling releases. With vocals that soothe and lyrics that speak directly to the heart, Taylor Jules continues to ascend and achieve even greater mastery of her art. When you’re ready, tap in and stream Jules’s catchy new release, “Adickted,” out everywhere. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Taylor Jules! We loved "Adickted," what an exciting switch from you! We had to ask, could you take us through the creative process for this release? The creative process for "Adickted" differed from the last two releases. It creates an exciting change of pace and genre for me, which I always like to play around with. I love a lot of musical genres and have written songs in almost every genre, so this step felt natural to me. I wanted to branch out and show that I have more tricks up my sleeve than I'm letting on. For this process, I had a chorus from a few years back stuck in my head, so I decided to do something about it and write the rest of the song around it, whereas I usually start with a verse. I pulled inspiration from pop and the pop/rock genres and made a hard-hitting, devious, and up-tempo tune with some rock elements. The pieces fell together nicely, and I began figuring out some chords and instruments I liked for the verses and pre-choruses. I created my story, per usual, and painted a picture of a scene through my words. I used phrases like "once upon a time" to show my progress as a character throughout the story, starting in a sub-par, far-away state and regaining my power over my own life after someone tries to ruin it. This song is about revenge, confidence, gaining strength to fight back, and maybe even enjoying it a little! What was your favorite part of seeing your vision for "Adickted" come to life? My favorite part of seeing "Adickted" come to life was hearing the first draft of the track. I came in with an obvious idea of how I wanted this song to sound, and the execution was better than I ever thought it could be. Hearing the chorus, all put together was a moment of relief and excitement, knowing that my vision was truly coming to light. My favorite part is how the beats, the chords, the vocals, the song's vibe, everything lined up with the ideas I heard, which is sometimes tough to execute. It took a lot of trial and error, but the people working with me could see exactly what I wanted and help me do that! Special thank you to producer Josh Fields for understanding what I wanted and helping me realize it. I also loved seeing how my vision for the artwork came to life. I must thank my wonderful college roommate, Emerald, for inspiring and drawing up this design and making my dream a reality. Seeing the whole product, with the fantastic cartoon artwork and booming mix, was an amazing feeling and one of my favorite parts of the process. What initially inspired you to make music, and what inspired you to keep making music today? Initially, I was inspired to write music because I loved to sing. Music was a large part of growing up in my family, and the importance of rock history and musicality was placed above all else. Guessing each artist, band, instrument, and cultural rock significance was thrilling. I loved listening to and singing music but felt a great passion for doing it. I had participated in musical theater for a few years and had a serious love for rock and roll, so I joined the School of Rock programs for kids in music. I received terrific opportunities, voice, and instrumental lessons, and sang all over the country while still being a 12-year-old middle-schooler. I had many amazing and unique experiences to write about and the desire to sing them all. I had been writing from a young age on my guitar, but when I started playing piano again, my writing skills and amount of songs increased dramatically. My love and passion for music and being deeply moved by songs inspired me to want to create this exceptional and personal art for myself. I tried to make others feel how these songs made me think through my writing. I continue to make and write music now because it is an outlet for me. Whenever I need to process my emotions or don't know how to say what I'm feeling, I write lyrics and poems and put them to music. It is not only greatly therapeutic for me but also allows me to be vulnerable and honest with myself and others using something I love. I can't imagine my life without singing or writing. What's your favorite part about being a musician and releasing your music, and if your listeners could take one thing away from your music, what would you want it to be? My favorite part of being a musician and releasing music is sharing a piece of myself. I kept my music and school lives separate for many years and always yearned for the overlap. I wanted to share these performances, venues, and travel experiences with my band with my school cohorts, but I did not want to feel ostracized. It was fun to have secret rock star life in middle school, performing at the Troubador, the Whisky a Go-Go, the Mint, and so much more. With my music today, I can finally share all the parts of myself I hid away and be proud of them. My favorite part is performing, and it always has been. Nothing compares to the feeling of singing on a stage. I can't even begin to describe my love for it, only that I feel the same way every time I step on stage. If my listeners could take one thing away from my music, it's that if you're having trouble processing your emotions or feel like you have no one to talk to music and songwriting are amazing tools to show yourself and others how you feel. I want my listeners to feel empowered through my music and know they are not alone. Many of my songs deal with love stories that don't work out as planned, and although some are merely stories, some are not, and I want people to be able to relate to my stories and gain their power back right alongside me. What's next for Taylor Jules? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? A lot is coming up for Taylor Jules in the future. I am only just getting started! I have a few more tracks that will drop after "Adickted," and I will announce some other projects. I will say that I like to throw curveballs like this occasionally, and don't be surprised if I throw another! I love to sing all genres and extensively experiment with my songwriting, so look out for the next Taylor Jules releases! Something I would love to say to the people listening is that you are not alone, and it may be hard to express your emotions or talk about the things that didn't go your way, but music is a great way to sort out your feelings and figure out how you're truly feeling. I want people to find comfort in our shared experiences and know that someone has gone through something similar, survived, and is now thriving. I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been listening and will listen to "Adickted." My singing dreams are coming true, and it wouldn't be possible without people willing to listen. Thank you so much for letting me live the life I always wanted and knew I was meant to have. Instagram

Drawing influence from various genres and artists from alternative pop and trap, he creates an exciting sound of Pop, blending his lovesick lyricism and infectious melodies. This can be heard in LUVLEY's infectious new release, "If I'm Honest." Launching a summer full of singles more intoxicating than the last, you'd think it'd be pretty hard to top this bop after pressing play. Recruiting producer extraordinaire Strange generates effervescent instrumentation that bounces through your speakers, sparking an upbeat escapade of elevated tenors. The dark and enticing essence of LUVLEY is fully captured through this mesmerizing amalgamation of wistful lyrics, enchanting harmonies, and a melodic blend of automation through LUVLEY's croons and the eclectic synths present in the musical foundation, all while the electronic, dance-like ambiance gives a lively vibe to the somber themes addressed. Blessing us with the heartbreak anthem of the summer, "If I'm Honest," is a ballad about the difficulties and confusion endured when finding your way after a breakup. This relatable narrative pulls into a personal place where we see LUVLEY's vulnerability firsthand and join in on the overwrought and distressed nature of the picturesque lyrical motifs. "If I'm Honest" is a balanced cocktail of energy that will excite you for the journey to come when one door closes and you await for the next to open. Propelling from the alternative pop scene, LUVLEY has secured a sound and message like no other. Welcome to BuzzMusic, LUVLEY! We're obsessed with this witty collaboration of emotions that spark a well-balanced nature of joyous and troubled in your latest single, "If I'm Honest." What inspired this unique approach to this song? Thank you so much! When it came to making 'If I'm Honest,' me & Strange wanted to make an infectious pop track with the energy and vibe of dance music. Combining jungle breakbeats with melancholic melodies and a catchy chorus, we've created the perfect tune for the summer! How did "If I'm Honest" come to be? What was it like bringing life to this story with Strange? Recently Strange & I have been experimenting with various stylistic influences with lots of emphasis on dance drums, especially adding breakbeats to give our tracks more energy. Making this particular song was so special to me as it all happened naturally and was so much fun. It was one of those songs that seemed to write itself. Do you often approach more vulnerable themes as an artist? Do you find it easy to get back to that place in your mind when songwriting? I try to be as vulnerable as possible in my music, as I always want to be as genuine and honest as possible. I think you can feel that in the music. I've never written a lyric I haven't lived, and I hope my fans can feel that too. So much of my music comes from a place in my brain that I spend so much time in; it's more difficult to get out of that place than it is hard to get there. Not to say I'm always sad, but I have a habit of overthinking and replaying things in my mind an unhealthy amount; making music helps me deal with that. Being a performing and recording artist has a broadened scope of joys you get to endure on the journey. Have you performed this song live yet? If so, what has the reception been like? If not, when will your fans get to hear it live? I've performed this song live a few times and have been so happy with the reception. It's now my opening song on the setlist, as it brings great energy to the show right from the start and has the crowd singing the chorus back to me right from the jump. What are you most looking forward to with a summer of music ahead of you? This summer, I'm looking forward to the new music coming out at the end of July and performing more nationwide. Make sure you follow me on Instagram @ohsoluvley to keep up with everything I've got going on! Instagram

- Brandon De La Cruz Melts Your Worries Away On His Gentle Single, “I Love You Babe”
The Portland-based musician follows his impressive debut with this charming new release. Having burst on the scene with an artistic poise and polish normally only seen in veteran performers, Portland-based indie folk singer-songwriter Brandon De La Cruz is a rare musical talent that has instantly made waves in the scene. Having immediately captured the attention and imagination of listeners on his highly acclaimed debut "Disguise," De La Cruz has triumphantly returned to release "I Love You Babe," the highly anticipated follow-up to "Disguise." With his ability to channel mellow, relaxing vocals that don't immediately reveal the vast depth behind them, Brandon De La Cruz continues to enchant listeners everywhere he goes. Funnily enough, "I Love You Babe" has an exciting and touching backstory. "I Love You Babe" is a heartfelt cover of a hidden gem by renowned cult-favorite folk songwriter Michael Hurley. After hearing and instantly falling in love with the song, De La Cruz received blessings from Hurley himself directly to release it, and Hurley says, "I couldn't see how anybody could like [the original song], but Brandon De La Cruz brings it into a new day, don't he? It sounds like new music to me." De La Cruz's "I Love You Babe" is a mellow, elegant, resonant track. De La Cruz approached this project with near reverence, and every second of the song feels perfectly thought out. Over soft, relaxing guitar instrumentals that make you feel like your worries melt away, De La Cruz's honey-steeped vocals gracefully and gently wash over you, enveloping you in a soft, warm soundscape. Lines like "I love you baby, and I don't know why / And when I see you, I will be so happy I'd cry" are delivered with such sincerity that it almost feels like De La Cruz is talking to you, and every line feels like it's filled with gratitude. Brandon De La Cruz's "I Love You Babe" is a tender love offering sure to tug at your heartstrings. When you're ready, tap in and stream "I Love You Babe" on July 14th. Watch for his upcoming album, "Two Kilos of Blue," available soon. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Brandon De La Cruz! We loved “I Love You, Babe,” what a tender and enchanting release! We had to ask, what was the inspiration behind this piece? Were you drawing from personal experience? I’m very happy to be featured; thanks for the love! This song, in particular, is a Michael Hurley song. I first heard it in Portland, probably 7-8 years ago. It’s a song recorded around the time of Hurley’s first record in the 60s that came out on Folkways. Mississippi Records dug it out of the archives and released it. I worked in a cafe next to Mississippi, where Hurley was a regular. I got to know him a bit over the years, saw him play many times, and fell in love with his music. I feel he is in the upper echelon of American songwriters. His style is understated and simple, with much soul and craft behind it. Somewhat by chance, I ended up in New Zealand right before the pandemic, where I’ve lived for the last three years. When I was missing the community back home in Portland, I learned many of his songs and realized I enjoyed singing, ‘I Love You, Babe.’ I feel really good when I’m singing it. Also, I love how the song explains the mystery of what it is to love someone and how that experience is beyond words. There are so many love songs because it’s impossible to get at fully, so we keep trying. We show our love in the pursuit of expressing our love. This song says, “I love you, babe, but I don’t know why.” Your new album, Two Kilos of Blue, will be released soon! What’s been your favorite part of bringing your vision for this album to life? I shared a studio with my friend Nick in Kirikiriroa, New Zealand, for the year and a half I was working on this record. It was the first time I had a dedicated space to work. I saved some money and could work full-time in the studio to experiment and try different takes and approaches to a greater extent than in the past. I had a lot of fun, got lost, and explored the dimensions of myself. I experimented extensively with sampling, which felt like a collaborative time-warping experience. In the past, I’ve had to squeeze music-making around the time left over from working a job. This time around was different. What inspired you to start making music? Do you have any favorite music-related memories you’d like to share? I started writing songs when I was seventeen or eighteen to express my big emotions. It was very cathartic for me. When I was a kid, my dad and uncle would hang out in the garage, singing along late into the night to The Eagles and Billy Joel. That was the first subconscious model I had. It’s hard to pick out music-related memory, but here’s one: I used to watch Jon Brion perform as often as I could at Largo. I’d try to make it out at least once a month, if not more. All those performances are very special to me, but one stands out: He played the most epic, celestial version of I Want You (She’s So Heavy) one night as his closer. He built up many layers, dimensions, harmonics, and rhythms; it was very transcendent. All of his show shows were transportive in their way, but that one opened up a door to The Beatles for me. AfterwardI went home and had Abbey Road on repeat and went deeper from there. What goals do you want to achieve through your music? Also, what would you want it to be if your listeners could take one thing away from your music? I want to refine my craft and make the music of my dreams. I’d love to play for more people and potentially go out on a tour. I want to write really good songs. If my songs could be a source of joy or consolation to a listener, I’d feel like I was giving back what so many artists have given me with their songs. What’s next for Brandon De La Cruz? Do you have anything you’d like to say to your fans? I’ve got many new songs and recordings I’m working on. I’m trying to experiment more and more with writing and arrangements. I’m really into Studio One Records right now. I don’t know how those records will resonate with my style, but I’m so absorbed seem likely they’ll have some effect. Instagram
- Philly Artist Bxbykuni Makes His Triumphant Return With His Hazy And Enticing Release, “Real Bad”
The Philadelphia singer-songwriter blesses us with music and visuals before taking us on a journey of toxic love in his new release. Skillfully mixing elements of pop, R&B, and infectiously groovy dance sensibilities, Philadelphia’s own Bxbykuni triumphantly emerged on the scene, captivating audiences with dynamic singles like “Back2Me”. Having taken a six-month hiatus to focus on college commitments and further develop his sound and artistic direction, he’s poised to make a triumphant return with his highly anticipated single “Real Bad." Although he recently returned from hiatus, Bxbykuni and music feel like a perfect match. The artist’s dedication and thoughtfulness regarding his music belies an artistic depth that is becoming rarer and rarer in the scene. He truly cares about his music and listeners, and you can tell. Additionally, his decision to collaborate with the talented Filipino producer BabyBoyBlue (known for his work with esteemed artists like Rachel Bochner and Amanda Yang) has ensured that every part of his releases is flawless, from the production to vocal performances. “Real Bad,” Bxbykuni’s latest release, is a riveting indication that he hasn’t lost a single step. Over instrumentals anchored by a distorted guitar and expressive drums, Bxbykuni’s smooth and gracefully sensual vocals lull listeners into his hazy soundscape. Dropping lyrics like “She got me locked up like some kind of animal, no / Got me on strings she’s too delectable, oh / It’s drivin’ me insane (insane),” Bxbykuni paints a vivid picture of troubled love. His vocal performance ties the performance together, but the production and instrumental performances stand out as expected. The music video for “Real Bad” is appealing eye candy that goes perfectly with the troubled yet romantic vibe of the song. Directed by Justin Tran and edited by Virak Nhek, the music video begins with Bxbykuni waking up in a disheveled room looking disoriented. As he turns on the tv, memories start to play, showing Bxybykuni and his femme fatale’s lust-filled attraction for one another play out. As the scene shifts, Bxbykuni is blindfolded to a chair, helpless, before his partner advances. Interestingly, although there’s plenty of physical contact, no emotional bond is visible, further enhancing “Real Bad”’s story of toxic, complicated love. As his companion removes his blindfold, Bxbykuni returns to square one, and the toxic cycle begins again. As Bxbykuni prepares for his highly anticipated comeback, fans and listeners can expect an exciting new chapter in his musical journey. With “Real Bad” as a taste of what’s to come, the sky is the limit as this talented artist rises higher and higher. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Bxbykuni! We loved your release "Real Bad"; the music video also felt like it was the perfect match! How did the inspiration for this piece come about? What did you envision this release being when you first thought of it? First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for your kind words and the fact that you enjoyed the music video. Your appreciation validates all my hard work and dedication to this song. This release has been an intriguing journey for me. Before this song, I experimented with antipop and hyper pop, drawing inspiration from artists like Erica, glaive, and Midwest. However, I strongly desired my music to be a genuine reflection of myself. Growing up, I was deeply influenced by incredible artists such as Michael Jackson, Usher, Justin Bieber, The Weekend, and Ray J. Their music shaped my musical palette, and I envisioned "Real Bad" as a fusion of pop influences with R&B vocals—a homage to the sounds I grew up surrounded by. The inspiration behind "Real Bad" stems from personal experiences of being trapped in a lustful relationship (unable to get out, getting pulled back into the cycle after being seduced) and the burning passion for creating a song that resonates with people while being catchy. What was your favorite part of seeing your vision for the music video come to life? My favorite part of seeing my vision for the music video come to life was realizing what I had initially described in an email to the director, Justin Tran. It was an incredibly thrilling experience to witness how my envisioned concepts and ideas were translated into captivating visuals. One particular highlight was seeing the scenes where I was tied up, as it beautifully portrayed the headspace of feeling trapped that I wanted to convey. It was a profoundly personal element for me, and seeing it executed in the video was both emotionally powerful and surreal. Growing up, I used to play songs that I loved and pretend I was in a music video, so seeing that I officially shot one was surreal. What inspired you to start making music, and what are your goals as an artist? Growing up, my childhood wasn't always easy, and I have personally dealt with depression, which was diagnosed just last year. However, during these challenging times, I discovered music's healing power. Creating music became a source of solace and inner peace for me. When I see people genuinely listening to and loving my songs and when I receive messages from fans, it brings me a profound sense of happiness and uplifts my spirits. Music has always been a part of me. I've been singing since I was young, performing at weddings as a child, and being involved in choirs as I grew up. It has been a constant presence in my life, and its joy inspires me to pursue my musical journey, even if it may sound cliché. As for my goals as an artist, I aspire to become one of the prominent Asian American artists in the United States. While I understand this is a lofty ambition, I have always been discouraged from pursuing music because of the limited representation of Asians in the industry. I want to challenge that narrative and be a part of the change. Witnessing the success of artists like Keshi has shown me that Asian musicians can make an impact. I want to inspire other Asian artists, empowering them to believe in their potential. What's been your favorite musical memory so far? Also, could your listeners take one thing away from your music? One of my best musical memories has been collaborating with my friend and producer, Liam Reyes (BabyBoyBlue). Our creative sessions are an absolute blast. We dive into a world of inspiration, going off tangents and discussing various topics. What sets this experience apart is Liam's incredible understanding of my vision for the instrumental. We share a musical wavelength, making the entire process enjoyable, effortless, and fulfilling. One thing I would want listeners to take away from my music is the ability to create catchy melodies. Crafting pop music is my passion, and while I aim to infuse elements of R&B, my ultimate goal is to leave an indelible mark on your mind. I want my melodies to resonate with you, become ingrained in your memory, and have you returning for more. What's next for Bxbykuni? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and is there anything you want to say to your fans?
