  • Press Your Luck Gives Us “Mementos”

Press Your Luck, the Detroit-based alternative rock band, is set to release its new single and video, "Mementos," on January 27th, 2023. The song is part of their forthcoming EP, 'Painfully Aware,' and is the follow-up to their highly successful single and video "In My Bones," which has amassed over 47k plays on YouTube and 15k on Spotify. Lead vocalist Ricky Fries explains that "Mementos" was written during a turbulent time, where everything he knew seemed to have been turned upside down. The frustration and uncertainty he felt during this time are evident in the emotional and powerful lyrics of the song. The music was developed while the band was listening to bands like Superheaven, Movements, Balance and Composure, and Anxious, which influenced the moody and heavy feeling of the track. The song starts with a slow and brooding guitar riff that sets the mood for the rest of the song. The drums and bass build up the tension until the chorus hits. Fries' voice is raw and emotive, perfectly conveying his pain and confusion while writing the song. The lyrics are introspective and deeply personal, making the listener feel like they share Fries' experience. The chorus of the song is particularly memorable, with Fries singing, sailing across the music with a pure and raw energy that makes you feel like your falling through the sky at full speed, which drives home the feeling of being overwhelmed by memories and possessions that no longer hold the same meaning they once did. The song's production is top-notch, with the recording done by Dave Miseveth and mixed/mastered by Lance Prenc at Tuxedo Ave Recordings in Roseville, Michigan. The sound is crisp and clear, allowing the listener to fully appreciate the nuances of the music and the emotions behind the lyrics. "Mementos" is a fantastic addition to Press Your Luck's discography. It shows the band's ability to create emotionally charged and meaningful music that resonates with their listeners. The song is a testament to the band's talent and ability to continue evolving their sound while remaining true to their roots. "Mementos" will surely be a hit with alternative rock fans and anyone who appreciates authentic and genuine music. Welcome back to BuzzMusic Press Your Luck! Kudos to the new release! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "Mementos" and how it relates to your forthcoming EP, 'Painfully Aware?' With Momentos, we started on a sound foundation instrumentally, and after listening back to phone recordings of that for a while, the chorus just popped into my head one day. It wasn’t until we were in the studio that I sat down and finalized all the verses, so for that reason, I think it’s a perfect window into my life at the time and where my head was at because most of that song was written off-the-cuff and in the moment, all the way down to the guitar solo. It’s also the second song we wrote together as a group, and hence why it is the second of the three singles from ‘Painfully Aware.’ How did the band's listening habits and influences contribute to creating "Mementos" and its unique sound? We are a very diverse group of music listeners, so it’s no surprise this one has a bit of a stylistic clash. It’s hard to pinpoint one exact influence or genre that was ultimately responsible for the final version. Still, as a rule of thumb in our band (at least when it’s Jim and I writing together), I’m naturally more poppy or primary key musically, whereas Jim writes more minor key and moodier feeling stuff. That’s just one example of what’s going on behind the scenes, but it’s a good one to show the musical tug-o-war that takes place inside of what we like to call the “boxing ring” that is the studio. Sometimes your idea wins, and sometimes, it doesn’t. The body of work is the ultimate referee, and what it says goes. Mementos" has a very emotional and reflective tone. Can you discuss how your personal experiences and struggles influenced the lyrics and overall mood of the song? I’m a pretty introspective person in general, but more so when I’m going through it and when this song was conceived, I struggled mentally and emotionally. Mostly with my own shortcomings and the pitfalls of my personality and how those things led me to the spot I was in. It can be overwhelming when you're down there in those trenches of your psyche, and I think I was finally at that point where I just had to declare, “I’m not okay!” But out of that frustration which is so tangible and you can feel throughout ‘Momentos,’ we managed to capture a very distinct and visceral sound that sticks with you after you listen. "Mementos" follows up the success of your previous single, "In My Bones." How does this new release build on the momentum and style of your previous work while showing growth and evolution in your sound? In my opinion, ‘In My Bones’ sets the tone, and ‘Momentos’ builds onto another layer of what you can expect from Press Your Luck. Our general message and ethos may remain consistent as a band, but we never want to deliver it to you in the same packaging every time. How would you describe "Mementos" to someone who has never heard your music before, and what do you hope listeners will take away from the song? “Mementos” is undoubtedly the one you want to listen to if you’re feeling down and out and want to be in your “feels” for a minute. Sometimes when you’re low, you almost wish to do something that will put you further into that mood to experience what you’re going through. I could only ask anyone who lends their ears to our music to feel it. Instagram Facebook

Touch base with this one today; available everywhere. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jameson Tabor, and congratulations on your electric release with “Touch.” How did the concept for the song "Touch" come about? Was a specific inspiration or personal experience that influenced the lyrics and melody? "Touch" was one that had to marinate for a bit before it came together. It started in this song sketch series I put together back in 2018, where I created a new song idea every day and then would release it. I had been feeling kind of lost and in need of something concrete to keep me creative and positive. At this point, my wife Jenna and I were going through some things–she wanted to move back home to Portland. She'd even interviewed for a few jobs up there. This song idea came on day 33, right after I had convinced her to come back down to LA and give it one final shot. Fast forward two years, and I'm in a session at our new place with my friend Molly Chapman. I decided to pull this up. I wasn't 100% sold on the original idea but figured I'd play it for her anyway. Right away, she was like, "Wait, what is this? I love it!" so we decided to try writing to it. Our initial draft was completely not what we ended up with. I think it was something about riding in a Tesla. Haha. But hey, sometimes you have to get the bad ideas out of your system to find what really does work. After the session, I played the song for Jenna, who had already been listening on the other side of the door. She had devised the idea to call the song "Touch" and write it about when we first met in college. We had a one-year-old daughter, but things were still a bit tense, and we desperately needed to find our spark again... So it just made sense. I thought, let's lean into this. She's always been part of my creative process, but this was the first time we tried writing a song together. She laid down many ideas that set up the shape for the rest of the song. Our therapy was writing this song together, reliving and reminiscing about what it was like when we first fell in love. Looking back, who knows? It might have even saved our marriage. "Touch" features a fusion of dance-pop and bluestep, an emerging sub-genre. What drew you to this specific blend of genres, and how do you think it adds to the overall message and emotion of the song? Tough question. At its core, to me, the song is telling a story of discovering love and the feeling–the magic–of that high. So the up-and-dancing vibe of this song is no surprise there. But I think the blues connection comes from my interest in emotional storytelling, not to mention the power and almost hypnosis of its cycling nature. When I listen back to some of the earliest blues recordings from the turn of the century, people like Son House, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith... there is this completely unfiltered freestyle and exploring with the scale, even on a simple lyric like "oh." It's amazing how someone can express one lyric/melody in so many different ways, the textures, the pitch choices, and everything in between. The blues has influenced everything, from jazz to rock and roll, soul, hip-hop, and the obvious RnB. As a song form, it comes out of grief, pain, and frustration but turns it into something satisfying and therapeutic. The flip is that we're coming in with a more positive and uplifting story from the start and then digging in, allowing that to unfold. That makes for something fun and ecstatic-party-vibe on the surface, but subliminally still super honest and deeply gratifying. Your soulful vocal performances have been compared to legends such as Prince, Stevie Wonder, and even Michael Jackson. How do you approach channelling these influences while still maintaining your own unique sound and style? Thanks! Yeah, the kiss of death, as some might say, haha. It is hard to have the comparison going through my head sometimes as I create, 'cause it's like, they are widely known as the best of the best, and those stylistic choices have already been done so well that it's like, how can you make it your own? So I do have to set that aside and focus on singing from my experiences–connect with the story, trust my instincts, know that I have a whole lifetime of music to release and that I'm also a multi-faceted individual who can't be confined to any one style or sound. My best performances come out when I'm not "trying" to do anything except have fun and stay in the moment. I'm also engineering and producing the vocal sessions, which adds difficulty when you're listening back and comping. But I can't care so much about being on the cutting edge or trying to find what hasn't been done before. It's more about being true to my song and content. Occasionally I get lucky and find something new and flavorful, and that's when I try to dig in. But it can never be the goal. "Touch" discusses the intense emotional and physical sensations of falling in love. How do you believe the song captures these feelings, and how do you relate to the lyrics? Yeah, I mean, this is quite literally my story. It's how I felt in those first few weeks and months of getting to know Jenna. All of the moments in the song are real memories. The way the song starts, it's like, I did fall for her so fast. I had been trying to imagine the type of person I would hope to find in an ideal world (I was getting out of this pretty serious relationship), so on my dad's advice, I had made a list of the things I'd want to find in my ideal soulmate the night before. And right as I'm telling my friend about it, explaining my dream girl, Jenna walks by. She happened to be friends with my friend, who stopped and goes, "Oh, hi Jenna," in the middle of my sentence. And right then, she introduced us. It was super short and sweet, we just exchanged names and stuff, but I distinctly remember walking away and saying, "Actually, someone kinda like that!" It was crazy... "Touch" explores the theme of desire and attraction, with lyrics like "I’m feeling your touch / Daydreaming of your touch / I can’t get enough of your touch." What message do you hope listeners take away from the song, and how do you think it relates to your overall artistic vision and message? I want people to feel love and be open to letting people in so they can experience that magical high as I did. It is something else that words can't describe, this almost dreamlike state–it was one of the best times of my life. And even though this song only 'touches' on the beginning of that mystery and intrigue, I still wanted to capture that almost fairytale, fantasy feeling. Making people feel good is what I live for. Helping people find a way to escape from their reality or even believe that something better is out there for them. That's the absolute most important to me. Instagram Facebook

  • Aerion Jackson Searches Through The “Empty Spaces”

Aerion Jackson, an American R&B singer-songwriter from Memphis, TN, has recently released her new single, "Empty Spaces." Her passion for music was sparked at a young age when she began studying influential artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, and Sam Cooke. After earning her degree in music from MTSU, Aerion decided to further her career while living in Nashville, Music City. She considers herself a soul singer first and foremost, and her smooth and sultry vocals reflect her diverse training in R&B, Neo-Soul, Jazz, Classical Music, Opera, Funk, and more. As a songwriter, she writes from her experiences of past love and heartbreak. Her ability to connect listeners from different generations and cultural backgrounds drives her as an artist. Aerion's latest release, "Empty Spaces," reflects her emotions and the closure she sought after a failed relationship. The song speaks to anyone who has experienced heartbreak and has found themselves trying to make a relationship work, despite knowing it's not meant to be. In "Empty Spaces," Aerion brings an upbeat R&B spin that transforms the usual melancholic ballad into a catchy and danceable track. The song's melody includes elements of jazz, which is not surprising, given Aerion's background in the genre. Teaming up with producer Brian Nathan, Aerion brought her lyrics to life. The production highlights her smooth and sultry voice and is complete with heavy background vocals, a hallmark of any R&B song. In addition, the writing process for "Empty Spaces" was heavily influenced by Pharcyde's "Runnin'" and Mya's "Fallen," both of which sample Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfá's "Saudade Vem Correndo." Aerion's admiration for these two tracks is evident in the way she blends jazz elements into the R&B sound of the song. As an artist, Aerion's goal is to connect with listeners through her music, and she has achieved this with "Empty Spaces." The song is relatable yet unique in its own way. Aerion's smooth and sultry vocals transport the listener to a place where they can experience the emotions she conveys in the song. The lyrics are heartfelt and authentic, giving a glimpse into Aerion's experiences. In conclusion, Aerion Jackson's "Empty Spaces" is a soulful R&B track that is both catchy and relatable. Aerion's unique blend of jazz elements and R&B production gives the song a fresh sound that sets it apart from other ballads on the same subject. In addition, her smooth and sultry voice is the perfect vehicle to convey the emotions and experiences she has put into the song. Overall, "Empty Spaces" is a testament to Aerion Jackson's talent as an artist and songwriter, and it leaves us eager to see what she has in store for the future. Welcome to BuzzMusic Aerion Jackson, and congratulations on your latest release, "Empty Spaces." What inspired you to write "Empty Spaces," and how did you blend the jazz elements into the R&B sound of the song? I wrote “Empty Spaces” to express my feelings and find closure within a failing relationship. We can all relate to falling in love, trying to make a relationship work, then searching and waiting on the love that was lost to return. We can all relate to having many reasons to leave a bad relationship but not knowing why we decide to stick around. While we’ve all heard a ballad on this subject, I thought it would be cool to bring an upbeat R&B spin that will have listeners dancing instead of crying over heartbreak. I wanted the song to be still relevant to today's Contemporary style, so I teamed up with producer Brian Nathan to incorporate that R&B sound with the claps and heavy background vocals. I also love the bass instrument from singing Jazz standards, so I had my good friend Allen Whaley add live bass guitar to the song. In "Empty Spaces," you sing about seeking closure in a failing relationship. What message do you hope listeners take away from the song? After listening to my song, I hope listeners will acknowledge and be aware of the red flags in a failing relationship and understand that “Empty Spaces” will never produce good fruit. In other words, if a relationship isn’t mutually beneficial, you can write a song about it but must leave. Like in the chorus, “I don’t know why I stay, but I know why I should go,” we often try to blind ourselves from the truth in hopes that a person will change, but we end up cutting ourselves short in the process. As a singer rooted in Jazz, how do you think your background in the genre influenced how you approached writing and producing "Empty Spaces?" The writing process started after listening to “Runnin’” by Pharcyde and “Fallen” by Mya; both sampled Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfá's "Saudade Vem Correndo.” As a singer rooted in Jazz, the melody of the song needed to include syncopation and rhythmic nuances. I usually come up with the melody to a song first before writing lyrics, and I usually like it to move. In this song, I envisioned a guitar and sang my melody. "Empty Spaces" is an upbeat R&B track that transforms the usual melancholic ballad into a danceable tune. What made you decide to take this approach with the song? I felt like there were enough heartbreak ballads, and wanted to do something different. While getting your heart broken can be sad, it doesn’t have to be heavy. I try to go through life acknowledging my issues or problems but not letting them define me. Life goes on, and it keeps moving like “Empty Spaces,” so why not dance or have fun? You've mentioned your desire to connect with listeners from different generations and cultural backgrounds. How do you plan to achieve this goal through your music in the future? My passion for music started from listening to a person sing “Give Me One Reason” by Tracy Chapman in the first grade. Then my mother introduced me to Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, and Nora Jones. My father introduced me to Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and artists in the realm of Neo Soul. As a teen, I was introduced to Classical music and more Memphis Soul artists. Upon receiving my degree in music, I sang it all, including Opera and Jazz. I have been fortunate enough to be a student surrounded by such great artistry from different genres and backgrounds. Therefore, I feel like it would be a disservice if, as an artist, I didn’t create music using all of these elements. As a songwriter, I write about my life and stories from others. Sometimes the genre style is R&B, and others are country or blues. As I continue to evolve as an artist and create more music, I plan to connect with my listeners by being authentically myself and not restricting myself to one genre or style. Instagram Facebook

Pook Hustle is back with a vengeance, and his latest single, "Grammy," is a force to be reckoned with. The track is a melting pot of hard-hitting drums, atmospheric synths, and silky smooth backing vocals, creating a distinct and infectious soundscape. But it's not just about the music for Pook Hustle. The track also pays tribute to his deceased stepfather, Mr. John, a kind and charismatic hustler from Harlem who meant a lot to him. By repeating his name in the hook, Pook Hustle infuses the track with a powerful energy that is impossible to ignore. 2012 was a successful year for Pook Hustle, with a sold-out show, three critically-acclaimed singles, a successful music video, and a merchandise drop under his belt. But he's not content to rest on his laurels. In a recent interview, Pook Hustle revealed that the creation of his latest single, "Grammy," was a spiritual experience, driven by a desire to experiment with his voice and create something that sounded futuristic. As a science kid, he's always been fascinated by the possibilities of sound, and his influences range from Daft Punk to Kanye West's "808s & Heartbreaks" era. From the opening bars, it's clear that Pook Hustle means business. His unique and much-loved tone cuts through the mix, delivering powerful and heartfelt lyrics with an authenticity that is hard to come by. The track pays homage to multiple genres and influences, with a distinct R&B tinge that adds depth and texture to the sound. The chorus is a standout moment, infusing the track with a powerful energy that is impossible to ignore. It's clear that this song is deeply personal for Pook Hustle, and his passion for the subject matter is evident in every word he delivers. With infectious passion and a burning desire to succeed, Pook Hustle is poised to take 2023 by storm. "Grammy" is a tour de force of modern hip hop and R&B, a testament to Pook Hustle's talent and dedication to his craft. It's a track that will get into your soul and stay with you long after the final note has faded away. If this is a sign of things to come, then 2023 is shaping up to be an incredible year for Pook Hustle, and we can't wait to see what he has in store. Welcome to BuzzMusic Pook Hustle. Congratulations on your latest drop, “Grammy.” Can you tell us more about the experimentation with your voice that inspired "Grammy?" How did you develop the distinctive delivery we hear on the track? Thank you! Sure, I love to sing, and it just so happens that I cracked the code on how to bend my voice the day before recording Grammy. I wanted to see how far I could push myself. "Grammy" pays homage to multiple genres and influences. Which artists or musical styles were you most inspired by when creating the track? I grew up on many late 90’s & 2000’s R&B, but I also fell in love with Trap in the 2010s. I like to call my combination of both Chill Hype. The chorus of "Grammy" repeats the name "Mr. John" and is a tribute to your stepfather. Can you discuss his role and how he influenced your music? Mr. John was supportive of me no matter what I decided to do. When I played basketball, he came to my games at West 4th, and when I started music, he encouraged me to keep going. It still feels that way, even though he’s passed on. He never tried to box me in, so I try not to box myself in, either. Your unique tone and delivery are a key part of what makes "Grammy" so special. How do you balance developing your own sound with staying true to your influences and the musical styles that inspire you? By being intentional and keeping an open mind. I’m open to trying new things, but being intentional helps you narrow down what you want to convey & how you want to convey it. A blade is sharpest at its most concentrated point; I’m still finding where that point is for me. You had a lot of success in 2022 with sold-out shows, critically acclaimed singles, and a successful music video. How does it feel to be entering 2023 with a new single like "Grammy" and a burning desire to push yourself and your music even further? It feels amazing and surreal because I’m thriving creatively, but on another end, the pandemic hit my family and me pretty hard. I’ve had to refine what success looks like for me and take things one day at a time. The Hustle never stops, though. Instagram

  • Explore A Mystical Atmosphere From Shy Bloom In “Into the Skies”

Jackson, Mississippi, is home to Shy Bloom's experimental sound, which touches on various genres, including EDM, electronica, and indie. What began his inspiration in 2014 was their introduction to Daft Punk and the electronic realm of music. Taking their production to the professional realm in late 2018, Shy Bloom has fallen deeply in love with taking organic textures and mixing them in with electronic elements. "Into the Skies (feat. killfiji)" is the latest record to come to us by Shy Bloom. The ethereal production unravels triumphantly as the elements he exposes meet a psychedelic realm. As otherworldly synths and ambient pads fuel the speakers with a whimsical soundscape easy to get lost in, there's a mystical reach in place as Shy Bloom's production transports you to a world far away, yet so close. It's as if you've been given an exclusive invitation to the hallucinogenic universe of "Into the Skies" as you follow the glimmering beams of sound placed in front of you. The velvety textures of killfiji's cascades are drenched in entrancing reverberations as Shy Bloom recruits her for a profound vocal performance. ShyBloom has us draped in a striking display of intimate layers that burst with complexity yet emanate an elegant finish that feels familiar. For a song that takes you to a place that seems out of reach, ShyBloom reels it all in as this record provides the listener with an experience versus a song. Thrilled by the dynamism brought forth as we sink our teeth upon "Into the Skies (feat. killfiji)," Shy Bloom shows us the promise of going to places further than our world permits. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Shy Bloom! We loved taking in the experience you created within this new track. Could you please share your inspiration behind the "Into the Skies" concept? The inspiration behind this track came from many ideas I had at that time. Wanting to make a more story-driven song/project. Many of my older projects had more of a theme than a full story. So, ‘Into The Skies’ set the narrative/story for itself and the new project I have coming out soon. This record has a brilliant dynamic as killfiji's vocals share the stage with your production. What was it like collaborating with killfiji to bring an ethereal atmosphere to our speakers? Collaborating with Killfiji was terrific! It felt like a collaboration rather than the vocalist just sending their acapella and the producer doing their thing and calling it a day, haha… it was more of if she had an idea, she’d share it with me, and if I had any ideas I’d share them with her. So it was great creative chemistry making this track. With musical influences like ODESZA, Petit Biscuit, and Flume, how have they been able to help you shape your sound? All three of them have shaped my sound in different ways, but what they all have in common is they helped me learn to break different boundaries in the genre I make. Often times when I make a song, I can’t even describe it in a way, haha… but they all have different thoughts for me to go in different directions with my sound while still keeping that genuine feeling to it. What message do you hope your audience can take away from "Into the Skies?" Honestly, I hope they can relate to this track more than anything. The meaning behind ‘Into The Skies’ is about being in a place where you’re lost and confused, unsure of where to go. I feel like anyone can hear those lyrics and see themselves in them. What's next for you? A lot, haha… but I got so much planned out for this year. Many of these ideas I haven’t done before. So it’ll be fun seeing everyone's reaction to them. Instagram

Young but not inexperienced, she thrives in delivering a sense of fulfillment in her records, making it her signature sound. Do you ever find yourself shadowed by doubt and what others may think of you? The compelling, immersive sonics give the listener hope in a "Miracle" - placing her sharp vocal tones and instrumental electrics all over the record. Inspired by others living their truths, Anna soaks in the capability of people's self-belief and drives her to believe in miracles. She identifies the nuanced world and sees how to play a role in one's inner critic, noticing it can be determined by one's self-belief. In her recent interview with Buzz, Anna Goldsmith mentions that she wanted the overall message that you are beautiful just the way you are. When she was younger, Anna struggled with being bullied and lacked the confidence to be bold. Unfortunately, in this world, you have to suffer greatly to release greatness. "Miracle" is about finding your true self without putting others down and being confident in who you are." We asked Anna what she does on her more challenging days, and she mentioned that she brainstorms ideas and plots carefully about her next mission. She lists all the possibilities, and then the creativity starts to flow, "Something on my list will strike a chord with me!" Her passion for music has been a part of her life from an early age, with her mother introducing her to iconic artists like Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, and Lauren Hill. R&B and Soul music fans will surely be impressed by Skyler's latest single and eagerly anticipate her upcoming EP. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Skyler Reed, and congratulations on a beautiful release with "Time of Day," which showcases your incredible vocal range and control. Can you share your approach to vocal performance and how you maintain your vocal health? Thank you so much. I use classical techniques I learned in college to produce a solid tone with great breath support. I teach voice and piano to students daily, so I am constantly using my voice. I sing in my head voice often and drink Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat Tea. What was the inspiration behind your latest single, "Time of Day," and how did you translate that into the lyrics and melody of the song? The inspiration was me personifying my gift of creating music. I thought if my gift could speak back to me, what would it say? I had gotten caught up in my business and was not creating as much then. I was not making the time of day for something I loved and needed. Songwriting and creating music have always been the best way I express myself, and is like therapy. With that idea, I wrote it as if it was about a love gone sour. The melody is set in my alto range to go with the vibe of the message. The "Time of Day" chorus has a powerful message about faith and trust. Can you tell us more about what that means and how it informs your artistry? Faith and trust are huge values of mine. The message of faith often is a common thread in the lyrics of my songs. In the context of this song, my gift is encouraging me to make time for it. I'm saying that I have faith in myself, while the lyrics seem to tell my lover that I have faith in them. It's about asking for more time and believing the desired outcome will be met. Your music has been described as a blend of R&B and Soul, with influences from classic artists and contemporary performers. How do you balance these different styles and create a sound that is uniquely your own? So many music genres and artists have influenced me along the way. To the music, I prefer to listen to, to the lyrics I choose to write, and to the melodies that naturally flow through me. I balance it out by producing or choosing beats with an R&B drive as I sing soulfully and jazzy over them. I grew up listening to beautiful stories through R&B lyrics, so I tend to be detailed as I pen the stories and emotions I want to share. Through studying Soul, I've learned to appreciate the ad-libs that are like icing on a cake, so I typically like to show my range for my ad-libs. My tone and technique shine through from my classical and jazz studies. It's something that is ingrained in the way I deliver. I'm proper, soulful, and dynamic, and through the years,' I have learned to craft that into my own style. You are passionate about music education and run your own music lessons business, Skyler's Music Studio. How has your experience as an educator influenced your approach to songwriting and performing, and how do you hope to inspire the next generation of musicians through your art? Being a vocal coach and music instructor has sharpened my ear and skill for singing and playing keys. It has influenced my musicality and delivery. I have a great ear, so my pitch for recording records and performing is pretty accurate. The technique is there because I work at it daily through teaching. I hope to inspire musicians to share their art and pursue their dreams. Instagram Facebook

  • Future Someone Says "I Hope You Find Whatever You Are Looking For"

As we at BuzzMusic appreciate soulful tunes, we recently enjoyed listening to a captivating new single by Future Someone, a talented singer-songwriter and producer based in New York City. The single, titled "I Hope You Find Whatever You Are Looking For," is a beautiful and honest song that promises to be the first taste of an album long in the making. What I found most striking about this song is its capture of raw honesty and authenticity. The lyrics are poignant and personal, speaking to the artist's growth and evolution. The music is a stunning soundscape combining pulsing, snaking synths with lush, ethereal vocals. The overall effect is both captivating and mesmerizing. Future Someone is a musician who has been involved in several bands, including Ionia and Those Mockingbirds. However, with this solo project, he takes a different approach. He puts down the guitar and instead uses soaring keyboards, ultra-precise drum arrangements, and heavy-hearted pop lyrics to create a dynamic and captivating experience for the listener. The song opens with the blunt statement, "You're not what I want, you're not what I need." This line is delivered beautifully and sets the tone for the rest of the song. Throughout the track, shades of St. Vincent, Tame Impala, and the 1975 make it a unique and captivating experience that is sure to have you sailing over the metaphorical washed-out waves. The song's music is just as powerful as its lyrics. The pulsing, snaking synths and precise drum arrangements create a soundscape that's perfect for large speakers aimed directly at the masses. It's clear that Walters put a lot of thought and care into every aspect of the song's production, resulting in a polished and cohesive sound that will captivate audiences. One of the most striking things about "I Hope You Find Whatever You Are Looking For" is its universal appeal. The song speaks to anyone who has ever been in a relationship that didn't work out, and the emotions it evokes will resonate with listeners from all walks of life. "I Hope You Find Whatever You Are Looking For" is a stunning and captivating single that promises to be the first taste of an album that showcases the evolution of an incredibly talented artist. It's clear that Future Someone has put a lot of time, effort, and care into this labor of love, and the result is truly special. With more singles slated for release in the near future, it's clear that Future Someone is just getting started, and I can't wait to see what else he has in store for us. Welcome to BuzzMusic, and kudos to catching the wave with your solo work as Future Someone. "I Hope You Find Whatever You Are Looking For" is a stark but welcomed departure from your previous work with Tri-state favourites Ionia and Those Mockingbirds. As a longtime musician, is this a sound you've always had deep inside you? Thank you! Possibly. I think finding your voice is the hardest thing for any artist. And being in a band especially, a musician's contribution to any song can only contain so much identity when blended with other players. Ionia and Those Mockingbirds had my voice, but the sound wasn’t my vision. So when I decided to write and produce my own music, I had no idea what would happen. I experimented and stumbled over ideas and had a lot of cool demos, but they didn’t resonate. It didn’t feel like me. A world of possibilities opened when I started writing on piano and messing with synths—new sounds, new chord voicings - the right combination of elements to inspire me. And “I Hope You Find Whatever You Are Looking For” is at the intersection of those inspirational elements. As long as I feel fully aligned with the song I’m creating, that’s as close as I can find the sound within me. Speaking of new sounds, the instrumentation is very complex and layered. Lots of bands forgo live instruments when recording these days. How did you track it? I tracked everything in my apartment except the drums. I started with the piano, bass, and drum beat. Once I solidified the bass line and chord movement for the chorus and verse, I did an outline for a drum beat and then had my brother record it in his studio. I think it depends on genre and accessibility to resources, but at the end of the day, a good song is a good song - whether it’s generated from samples and synths or all acoustic and live instruments. Practically all of us experience heartbreak and/or a wide range of emotions associated with relationships' ups and downs. There's a universal message in this song that will resonate with listeners. Was the songwriting process a cathartic process for you? It was. I feel like getting to know someone and then moving on is never easy. And heartbreaks are nuanced. Everyone deals with the same ending, but the path there varies. This was my take on a particular type of relationship where you realize nothing is in sync, and it’s better to end it sooner rather than later. When I was done writing the song, it felt like a relief to communicate something I felt but had trouble articulating. And I think the music and words seamlessly fit together to form a full picture of what that ending was like. Do you plan to perform in NYC anytime soon? We suspect you have some fans that would love to see that. Fingers crossed, I’m aiming for a show in New York this summer. We’ll see how things shape up in the coming months. With this song being the first taste of new Future Someone music in 2023 (and it certainly sets an impressive tone for listeners), we're curious what made you decide to release "IHYFWYLF" first and how soon will you be sharing more? It felt like a song that represents my sound as a songwriter. Anyone that discovers me now won’t be led astray with future releases. But then again, maybe they’ll just like this song. Regarding new material, I’ll be releasing another seven songs throughout the year, so the timeframe isn’t precise, but you can count on another song very soon! Instagram Twitter

  • Of The Fallen Journeys To The Souls Abyss With “Harlots”

Of The Fallen's latest release, "Harlots," featuring Daniel Eichelberger of Mirari, is a haunting and gripping journey into the depths of the human psyche. This deathcore act from Houston, Texas, has risen since its establishment in 2019, and "Harlots" is a testament to their powerful and unique sound. The track opens with a foreboding atmosphere that sets the tone for the entire piece. The guitars begin to weave a haunting and beautiful melody, leading the listener deeper into the abyss. The vocals come in unrelenting ferocity, delivering the story of a man succumbing to his dark desires. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a man losing himself to his demons and becoming vulnerable to the seductive powers of the Maiden of Anguish. Of The Fallen's sound is a mix of different metal genres, including deathcore, death metal, black metal, and metalcore. But to label their music as any of these genres would be a disservice to their unique sound. They blend guitar melodies, chaotic riffs, screeching highs, blasting beats, and bumping bass to create a heavy, atmospheric sound. With three guitars, they can achieve an extra chug that adds to the overall impact of their music. One of the most impressive things about Of The Fallen is their dedication to their fans. They have cultivated a community of heavy music lovers supporting them online and in person. They have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the metal scene, including Attila, Origins, Filth, The Convalescence, and more. Their first music video, "Lamentations," reached over 30k views and surpassed 100k streams on Spotify within its first eight months. The band's popularity is quickly growing on social media, and they have been able to parlay that into small tour runs in Texas. Their dedication to their craft is evident in everything they do, from songwriting to online presence. They strive to make the music they want and have fun while creating a community where they and their fans can unite and share their love for heavy music. The guitar melodies, riffs, power cores, and driving forces are at the track's core. The guitars are layered to create a dense, full sound, with each riff and melody working together to create a dynamic and engaging sonic landscape. The guitar tones are rich and heavy, with plenty of distortion and crunch, giving the track a true metal edge. The bass guitar is also an essential element in "Harlots," providing a solid foundation for the rest of the instruments to build on with its propulsive chug that gives a deep weight to the tone of the song…as deep as hell, if you will, adding an extra layer of intensity to the track. The drums on "Harlots" are equally impressive, with blasting beats, thunderous double bass kicks, and explosive fills that propel the track forward. The drummer's precision and speed are displayed throughout the song, with complex and intricate patterns that perfectly complement the guitar and bass riffs. The addition of Daniel Eichelberger of Mirari on vocals is also a standout feature of "Harlots." Eichelberger's piercing screams and growls perfectly complement the already impressive vocal performance of Of The Fallen's lead vocalist, creating a dynamic and powerful duet that will leave a lasting impression on the listener. Overall, "Harlots" is a hard-hitting, intense, and emotional track showcasing Of The Fallen's talent and creativity and will appeal to heavy music fans everywhere. It is written in blood, "Harlots" is a testament to Of The Fallen's unique sound and dedication to their craft. The track is a journey into the dark recesses of the human psyche, and the band's ability to create such a powerful and haunting atmosphere is a testament to their talent. With their growing popularity, it's clear that Of The Fallen is a force to be reckoned with in the metal scene. Welcome to BuzzMusic Of The Fallen. Praise to you, dark lords, on the latest drop, "Harlots," you have such a diverse sound and your music is often described as deathcore, but it also incorporates elements of other heavy genres like black metal and metalcore. How do you balance these influences and create a unique sound for Of The Fallen? Every single one of us brings to the table our own different styles of playing, writing and what we listen to. All of us in OTF seem to have a different genre of music we dwell in. Wayne jams more metalcore and "butt" rock (lmao) with sprinkles of deathcore, Waylon loves old school death metal and anything with blast beats, Rob, our vocalist, jams anything with some deep grooves, I.E. lamb of God, Slipknot, Dyscarnate, Sylosis. While Travis is mainly deathcore (old school), and Alexis is pretty much the guru of music and jams everything and anything death metal of today's world to Opeth and alot of non-metal bands. We use that to establish our sound as a band and how we write. We do not like pushing out the same stuff repeatedly, and we pride ourselves on always having something a little different. "Harlots" features Daniel Eichelberger of Mirari on guest vocals, and his performance adds an extra layer of intensity to the track. Can you talk about how this collaboration came about and what it was like working with him in the studio? So the collab was a long time coming; we've been friends with Daniel for a few years. I don't even remember how we started to become friends with him and the bands he has been in. I'm sure it was probably a show we all played and hit it off together. But anyways, we've wanted to work with him because he has some monster vocals, as you can hear from his part in "Harlots." As for the studio, we couldn't work with him directly (life and band stuff always seem to come up). But we did get to work with him in the video shoot. And let's say it was fun lmao. It was his first-ever Music video. But it turned out to be one great experience. Also, one of us almost died shooting the video like legit. The lyrics for "Harlots" are very dark and intense, dealing with themes of succumbing to one's own demons and desires. How do you approach writing lyrics for your music, and what themes or ideas are most important to you as a band? Rob: "My approach to writing lyrics is fairly simple and straightforward. Most of the time, it starts with listening to the song at practice while it's being worked out and freestyling over it when they run through it at rehearsal. There I find patterns and rhythms I like and want to work on. From there, I figure out what I want it to be about, take a song recording, and write the words to it. We have a specific theme or storyline we want to tell for most of the music we've put out and will be putting out. I then take each song and mould the lyrics to tell the part of the story I feel that song best represents. Some songs we're working on have a pre-determined story or ideas we want to write about, but there are others that I write about what I'm feeling, experiences, and ideas that are close to me and some of the other members of the band. Of The Fallen has quickly gained a following locally and online, with a strong presence on social media. How has the band's online presence helped you connect with fans and grow your audience for "Harlots?" So we all have day jobs, and we can't always be out and about talking with everyone we can. So instead, we use social media for our fans to see something funny that will make them feel a part of OTF—a way to decompress every day. And we always love interacting with fans online and in person. We also know that without fans and people supporting us, we would not be close to where we are today. What advice would you give aspiring metal musicians starting out and looking to make a name for themselves in the industry? How does "Harlots" reflect your journey as a band, and what can we expect from Of The Fallen in the future? Advice-wise, we would love to say do not look at others' success and think you are not worthy or feel behind. Every single band and artist has their own time and their own means to Succeed. Everything you do does matter, but having fun, learning, and experiencing your life as a band matters. As for making a name not sure, tbh; we're still trying and learning ourselves. But one thing we noticed is to be yourself honestly while standing out amongst the thousands of bands. And most importantly, your fans and your community matter. Harlots is a real stepping stone musically, visually, And emotionally for us. Harlots showcases our evolution as a band and how we have grown and embraced our sound as a band through the last few years. We've always had this notion that everything we do as a band truly matters, and for our future, we are bringing even more heavy writing, with melodies, more content of all types and shows that will bring the breee breee.
