- Zhaklin Channels Her Inner Warrior In, “I Hide It Well”
Resilient recording artist and singer-songwriter Zhaklin wants to lend a helping hand with her latest emotional and empowering single, "I Hide It Well." Zhaklin endured quite a tragic childhood that started with her father being murdered in her own home. After retreating from life and maturing at a very early age, she later asked her mother for piano and dance lessons to find an outlet for all that pain, trauma, and strife. Fast forward to today, Zhaklin is one of the most resilient, dedicated, and empowering recording artists on the scene. She strives to evoke a sense of belonging in listeners, doing so with her latest single, "I Hide It Well." This song is for "the warriors who suffer in silence," says Zhaklin, adding that social media blurs our perception of reality and evokes feelings of inferiority, unhappiness, and not being enough. Diving into "I Hide It Well," a gentle piano melody opens the song while Zhaklin softly sings of lingering pains that roam beneath the skin. And yes, she hides it well. The fluttery and chilling adult contemporary instrumentals slowly expand as Zhaklin reaches the hook. She belts her heart out, exclaiming that she's invincible, unshakeable, and ready to keep battling through life's woes. This song is nothing but empowering, and we're sure listeners who hide their struggles will appreciate the sense of belonging and acceptance Zhaklin delivers. Towards the song's end, Zhaklin continues ramping up the energy to clarify that life's battles might shoot their shot, but they'll never stop this warrior from coming out strong in the end. Remind yourself of your inner power with help from Zhaklin's moving and inspirational single, "I Hide It Well," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Zhaklin. We honestly appreciate such a moving anthem for endurance with your recent single, "I Hide It Well." What inspired you to write this warrior-type piece? What inspired me to write this warrior-type peace is the realization that we, women always downplay our strength, our value, and our endurance. Thus, sometimes we just have to be our own supporters and acknowledge that we are powerful, we are strong in the midst of the storm. How would you describe your instrumental sound? What genres or sounds did you want to bring in "I Hide It Well?" I’m an Armenian by nationality, so I try to reflect cultural sounds in my music, but for this song, "I Hide It Well," I want to keep it a straightforward singer/songwriter pop sound in order to relate to a wider audience. My instrument is the piano, therefore I do create and play all the piano parts which I also did on this track. What was your songwriting process like for "I Hide It Well?" Was this rather challenging, or was it empowering to open your mind and heart? Honestly, I wasn’t ready to talk about this subject until I met my co-writer by serendipity. It turned out that we do share similar health challenges and the fact that these diseases are invisible which is so hard for people to comprehend and understand what one goes through. And through our taking together, I said we need to write a song about this. So I jotted down some lyrics, then Annette, who’s a great lyricist created the most amazing lyrics that truly express how we both feel, then all I had to do is write the music for it. It felt so amazing, singing those words during recording, I am invincible, I am unshakable and for the first time feeling those words and recognizing how strong I am and our hope is with Annette, that this song will give that feeling of strength to all those suffering in silence. What was your mission in releasing "I Hide It Well?" What effect do you want this song to have on listeners who relate to your lyrics? This song is for all the warriors, men, and women everywhere that fight the fight, that get up every morning even though it’s so painful, who try to do their best and give their best. What's next for you? What’s next for me is creating more music and making connections with my listener. Instagram Facebook
- Meet Your Match With Sarah Shafey’s New Single, “Competitor”
This Toronto-based artist is the embodiment of musical versatility. Singer-songwriter, producer, and mixing engineer Sarah Shafey brings the heat in her latest single, "Competitor." With over a decade in the busy Toronto music scene, Sarah Shafey's music has ranged from piano folk-pop, emotive alternative with grungy shoegaze rock, to present electro-pop/rock. She's built quite a solid reputation around town and even co-produced, co-engineered, and co-mixed with a Juno award-winning producer. There's no end in sight for Sarah Shafey as she continues exploring new sounds with her synth-heavy upcoming album 'Blackbox Universe.' Her recent heavy hitter, "Competitor," is the latest single released off the forthcoming record and gives us a glimpse into Shafey's exciting newfound sound. Shafey's ready to shake your speakers to a whole new and intense level. She's starting the journey with her new track, "Competitor." The song opens with a wall of punchy synths that pulse through our speakers alongside sci-fi pads and a driving drum arrangement. As the minor keys begin drenching the verse, Sarah Shafey jumps in with intimidating and confident lyrics that sing of getting her vendetta on and challenging someone who did her dirty. It's not too often we hear a song that's an anthem for revenge, so needless to say, we're hooked and ready for the ride. This tune is packed with angst, dense synths, and powerful vocals that strike the listener with authority. The ethereal bridge is a whole other aspect that leaves us drifting into the celestials. Reaching the outro, Shafey closes the song inviting us to throw our flames and see what she's got. Get ready to level up with Sarah Shafey's new single, "Competitor," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Sarah Shafey. We're stunned by the power and dominance you've brought to your new single, "Competitor." What inspired this battle-like song? I like that description, a battle-like song. For all of us, there are moments in life that can sometimes feel like a battle. I think that is a pretty normal human emotion. I think it's very important to recognize that it's ok to have those moments and all we can do is try our best to make life a good one. After each battle, you become stronger. What were you feeling during your songwriting process for "Competitor?" Was this a rather cathartic experience? I wanted to make a song that was an anthem-like feeling, and I find releasing thoughts into musical and lyrical form to be very therapeutic. I want people to feel like they can be who they are at their core, and I suppose that is what this song is about. Cathartic indeed. Did you produce "Competitor" solo? Or did you have other hands on deck to help execute your vision? This was fun. I love making albums, and recording music is honestly my favorite thing on the planet to do. Me, studio, headphones, and loud music in my ears, equals happiness. I had the lucky experience of co-producing/mixing/engineering the album with Hill Kourkoutis, who is a lovely and talented person. I am big on women's equality and having the chance to work and learn from her on this was a treat. She just became the first female to win a JUNO award in the Recording Engineer of the Year category (2022). So proud of her, and it's an awesome step of progress for women producers out there. What led you to transition into this exciting and synth-heavy sound with "Competitor" and your upcoming album 'Blackbox Universe'? I love synths. I am a piano player to start, and I love messing around with keyboard sounds because it's fun. The full album crosses a lot of genres, but they generally are a mix of electronic, pop, and rock. The difference is that each song's ratio mix of those three genres changes around. I don't think too hard about what I am making when it comes to music. I just go into a zone, mess around, and see what comes out on the other side. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. All that matters is that I am having fun. What's next for you? I am super pumped to be releasing two more singles and a video before the full album release, which is in September 2022. What's really fun is that each single released leading up to the album will be accompanied by a comic series beautifully illustrated by Sarah B. Moore. Princess Layla is the character for "Competitor." In this series, I celebrate my Egyptian heritage. As the comic unfolds, Princess Layla marries King Reh out of duty in the name of the Great Order. The first Act can be read here. Instagram Facebook
- King Chronos Gifts Us With Trendy, “Rhythm N Vibes”
King Chronos is an artist, vocalist, and songwriter for the NYM Movement (New York Minute) pop duo with his brother Hollow. Growing Up in New York City, Chronos was introduced to Edm, Dance Techno, Trance, and House by his older brother Vertigo. King Chronos is very much influenced by the Real Mcoy album, Corona Rhythm of the Night, and Robert Miles with his hit song "Children." Chronos writes music for all genres, but his solo work is more of a Pop/Edm/Dance style. His music is a reflection of the energy and his experience through time to create timeless pieces of art. His stage name also references Greek mythology as Kronos being the king of titans and the God of time. As we commence on this very ambient journey with King Chronos, he introduces us to his very illuminating voice alongside the amazing beat filled with rhythm, which makes sense as to why he called it "Rhythm N Vibes." Chronos emphasizes how he feels alive when he's in the club doing his thing and seeing his crush/lover in lyrics like "And now we're dancing up in this club and your body up all on me can I be the one you want?" He mentions how he couldn't wait to see her and show off how he's the rhythm and vibes altogether. The instrumental is immaculate as it has our hands up, jumping up and down, and giving it all our best dance moves. It's the anthem for summer! As he maintains his stamina, he says things like, "You turn me on up all the way, and now you got me in outer space you telling me that you feel the same and I don't even know your name," talking about how intoxication can make you do crazy things. King Chronos offers every piece of the puzzle that creates a perfect hit record, and with "Rhythm N Vibes," it shows. Welcome to BuzzMusic, King Chronos, and congratulations on your latest release, "Rhythm N Vibes." How did you come up with the concept for this release? Most of the music I create is about my experiences in life. The concept of rhythm n vibes is based on breaking your limits, testing yourself through a wild night of events, and meeting a certain person who takes you through this exciting experience. I like to call it the "Tunnel to Oblivion. " It was a night of clubbing around the city, listening to different styles of music, enjoying each other's company, and catching a genuine vibe while their minds wandered off. It almost felt like our bodies were on auto-pilot, but our conscience stayed connected. As we reached the break of dawn, it felt like a dream. And the last text I received back was, "I loved how we vibe to the music all night long, let's do it again sometime" then I started to get these minor flashbacks as much as I can remember, and I feel like I had one great night. Big Shout Out to Impala Beats, those two women are phenomenal producers, and I love working with them on different productions. As "Rhythm N Vibes" gets us dancing and letting go, what was your main inspiration for the song, and what did you want to bring to your listeners? Life Experience and Positive Energy just go out there and allow yourself to have a great time with friends, family, coworkers, pets, and people you just met. Overall, enjoy yourself, smile; laugh, dance, and try new things. Fall in love, start a family or stay single until you're ready. Around this time, I was in a dark place, but one thing I knew not to do was give up. Your happiness is very important, and everyone should take the time to fully understand how to obtain that and build a support system around it. As a growing EDM and Dance artist, do you feel you'll ever branch out and try a non-identical genre? Music is my passion. I love all styles of genres. I love being versatile and being able to connect with people and relate. I'm definitely looking forward to collaborating with different artists, producers, and engineers. It would be an honor. What's next for you? We have the King Chronos merchandise releasing very soon. You can find it at https://kingchronosstore.com/, And we definitely have more new music on the way. Also, if you haven't yet checked out my collaboration with NYM(New York Minute), you can find it on all streaming platforms. Instagram Facebook

From Boston to Los Angeles, pop recording artist and singer-songwriter Rosie Darling drop an anthemic breakup tune with her newest release, "Fucked Up Summer." The LA-based artist is the kind of pop anomaly that follows her artistic impulses until she reaches new heights. With her debut single, "Coping," Darling garnered 30+ million combined streams, charted on 14 different Spotify Viral 50 charts, and landed in the top 20 of the Global Viral Chart. We expect the same success with Rosie Darling's latest single, "Fucked Up Summer." The song is said to be a jam to help listeners get over the person they thought they'd be enjoying summer with. It was co-written by Justin Gammella (FINNEAS, Ashe) and mixed by Michael Brauer (John Mayer, Coldplay). Jumping into "Fucked Up Summer," the experience begins with airy background pads and vocals that slowly make their way into the verse. As Darling's gentle vocals begin singing of her restless nature and emotional state, the instrumentals expand into the bright and cathartic hook. We love how Darling puts a vibrant pop emphasis on her personal lyrics of loneliness and the journey to independence; she makes this breakup anthem incredibly easy to listen to. The blend of electronic pop drums and synths paired with the rich alternative rock instrumentals brings a sensation of relief, letting listeners breathe in the new air around them. As we head to the outro, Darling takes us around the melodic and anthemic hook one last time to end the track with a little hope that summer won't be too fucked up without that special someone. Find relief and clarity in Rosie Darling's relatable new single, "Fucked Up Summer," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Rosie Darling. We appreciate your new single's relatable, emotional, yet energetic nature, "Fucked Up Summer." When did you feel inspired to take your emotions and put them toward a song? I love this song because I originally wanted to write it for Halsey, and I am now releasing it! I wrote this a few years ago, and it has always been a song that I've wanted to release, so after a few years of waiting, I am extremely excited it's coming out! I feel like it's a summer anthem, and I just wanted to make something memorable. I am sure anyone going through a breakup this summer will relate, so I hope it reaches them! What was the most difficult personal challenge you faced when creating "Fucked Up Summer?" Did you run into any emotional obstacles? I think finding the balance between the lyrics in the verse and the chorus, mainly because I wanted to keep it in that world of being super specific in the verses while also making sure the chorus was easy to remember and catchy! I wrote this song quickly, so I didn't have too many emotional obstacles. I think it was the opposite; everything came together very easily when writing this song. What is your goal with "Fucked Up Summer?" What do you want the listener to experience and feel? Nostalgia! I feel like most people can relate to some sort of summer romance, and I really love when all of the vocals come in at the end for a moment where the song is just breathing for a minute without too many lyrics. I hope people hear it and want to sing along, especially in the chorus! What's next for you? Right now, I am focusing on writing more songs! I will be releasing an EP this summer and then hoping to tour! I am so excited for everyone to hear what I have been working on!! Instagram TikTok
- Major Spark Pays Homage To Female Athletes In, "Run Run Run"
Versatile and uplifting musical duo Major Spark highlights the essence and power of female athletes worldwide in their latest single and music video, "Run Run Run." Major Spark is vocalist Mark Goodman and producer Brian Charles. Together, they've created a distinct sound that combines garage rock, power pop, psychedelia, and synth-drenched textural soundscapes. With conceptual and spirited tunes, Major Spark is leaving a major mark on the independent music scene. The versatile duo recently released a lively and anthemic new tune, "Run Run Run," which looks at the power and drive of female athletes. The song's music video is another empowering aspect that brings those themes to life through visuals of powerhouse women worldwide. It's without a doubt that Major Spark brings a positive vibe with each of their tunes, and this new one is no exception. Expanding on the music video for "Run Run Run," the scene opens with grainy and nostalgic shots of a female cheerleader dressed in an 80s cheer outfit, pumping her pom-poms with energy. As Major Spark's lively and feel-good instrumentals begin pouring through our speakers, Goodman expands on his admiration for such powerful women. "She's got muscles like a stoner's got weed" is a perfect description of Goodman's witty yet effective lyrics. Charles's groovy and bright rock instrumentals bring an incredibly vibrant and playful feel. Major Spark's performance is the perfect soundtrack for the music video that plays countless shots of different female athletes pumping iron, running track, and beating records. Take a moment to appreciate powerful female athletes worldwide with Major Spark's latest single and music video, "Run Run Run." Find the single on all digital streaming platforms and the music video on YouTube. Welcome to BuzzMusic, MajorSpark. We truly appreciate the homage you've created for female athletes with "Run Run Run."What inspired "Run Run Run?" The vibe of "Run Run Run" comes from listening to hours and hours of great guitar pop from bands like Fountains of Wayne. Mark wrote the basics of the song - and then Brian pushed to create parts that would build the song. We aim to have simple guitar hooks and sweet harmonies to make the songs tasty and sweet. We wanted the song to be about a woman who kicks ass in a beautiful way. What was it like writing the lyrics for "Run Run Run?" Why did you want to give your lyrics this playful and lighthearted feel? Mark likes to write the lyrics in the studio. Writing with pen and paper and a strong cup of coffee can lead to cliches; we call it the Moon/June/Spoon rhyme problem. So... Mark improvises dozens of verses over the basic groove, and then we find the morsels that sound good. When Mark wrote in previous bands - nobody really questioned his lyrics or pushed too hard on the meaning. Brian pushes and questions every phrase in a good way. When Mark gets stuck in a lyric rut, he will pull out old tracks by bands with unusual lyrics; King Missile, Pavement, Guided By Voices, and The High Strung. What made you want to shed light on the many different female athletes within your music video for "Run Run Run?" Why was this important for your group? We hired Philip Stevenson, a music producer from Washington DC who creates his own found footage videos, to craft a video using what he could find. We gave Philip some loose direction, and he found the images. He definitely captured the vibe we wanted. We did not need a ton of back & forth in the editing process. We want our music to be perceived as positive, upbeat, high energy -- good for a party, driving around, and having fun. The video (mostly) has that vibe. The scenes within the "Run Run Run" music video seem to be rather nostalgic. Why did you want the video to have this old-school, 80s edge? We think the edge goes further back. The video feels, at times like the 1950s. We gave Philip the freedom to assemble images that he thought would work. We were not trying to make a nostalgic video. What's next for Major Spark? Well. Brian produced bands for 33 years at his studio, Zippah Recording. But it burned down in December 2021. We were about halfway done with album #2. He continues to produce bands in other studios, but we are trying to find space to rebuild Zippah. Our goal is to finish album #2 by the end of 2022. We think we've surpassed what we did on Beautiful Noise... but most songwriters think their new stuff is better. We'll see. Instagram Twitter

Find the single on all digital streaming platforms and the video on YouTube. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Veve C. You have us breathing out the negativity with your latest music video, "Breeze." What inspired you to write a song about becoming the best version of yourself? First, I want to thank you so much for taking the time to interview me as this is still a surreal moment for me. At the time I wrote Breeze, I was at a moment in my life where I was reflecting a lot on when I was in high school and how far I've come since I graduated. I wanted people to see my vulnerable side and how I can give a positive perspective on the negative experiences I went through. When I talk about my diary and mention "I was thin, I was ugly, I'm an idiot, patched kid with no hair, etc.) these were actual words that people called me in high school back when I was undergoing an OCD hair condition called "trichotillomania". I was in my worst state of depression, where I lost motivation to do everything. So to be where I'm at now and not having any of those issues anymore inspired me to write that song as part of my journey in life. How do the scenes in the "Breeze" music video reflect the song's concept? What do these scenes represent? I wanted to give a more "peaceful" vibe to the song by wearing outfits that would give it a "breeze-like" way. The white dress with the tiara symbolizes growth as I became stronger from the challenges I faced. The bathtub scene symbolized washing all the negativity away (literally) and being able to be at peace. The Plum Point scene with the white bikini symbolized another journey in my life that would foreshadow good things and the sunset gave the element of a new beginning. Lastly, the diary scene where I was in my pink mesh robe symbolized me reflecting on my past memories and giving closure to the situations that helped shape me today. Did you have any helping hands when creating the "Breeze" music video? What was that experience like? Of course! Between my father and my little brother Shawn who helped me throughout this entire process, and my bro Roshawn Strong (who filmed "Breeze"), I was able to portray the vision I had for the song in the best way that I could. Although some moments were challenging because it was so cold, it was easy working with Roshawn because we had the same vision for the visuals I had in mind, and he was able to bring it to life! It was a challenging experience for me being that I did my own hair, makeup, and styling, but I love being hands-on with everything, and being able to self-direct myself in my video was a lot of fun! How do you hope listeners react to the "Breeze" single and music video? Do you hope it evokes a sense of well-being and positivity? I want people to feel a calm vibe when listening to my song and understand why I chose the visuals that were illustrated in the music video. I also want people to know that I'm human too and that I've overcome some obstacles I never thought I would be able to. I really hope that they at least understand where I came from with the song if they don't like it but I hope they like it! What's next for you? I have so many projects coming up! I'm working on my second album "Reflection" that will feature some hits I think the mainstream media will enjoy (at least I hope they do) and will release a few singles sometime soon this year (Beginning To An End, Birthday Twin, and Reflection). also still model and act so you may see me in some featured films, such as "The Fearless Three" and "The Flaws In Your Eyes" and may even see me again for NYFW and more! I can't wait to show the world more of my crafts and I just want to have fun doing them all! Instagram Facebook

Today, Caleb shares his Nettwerk debut single, "Where Do We Go From Here?" a powerful story of a devastating love lost. Caleb introduces us to the sound of the softest piano keys, which sounds like I'm floating on a cloud; he gently starts by saying things like "I can still see the stain on your sweater when you looked at me and believed" and "When I told you we're in this together you smiled back and agreed." There's a genuine, heartfelt feeling from "Where Do We Go From Here?" Next, Caleb showed us how his vocal match with the perfect beat creates a record worthy of being played on repeat! The record relates quickly as he feels the love he's lost has broken his heart and all he could do was watch it all crumble. He talks about many beautiful memories they've shared, and now it's all it is, just a memory. Caleb shows a lot of emotion as he recalls many loving experiences they've shared. With that instrumental hugging the vocals so amazingly, we are sure to keep "Where Do We Go From Here?" saved to all our favorite playlists! Welcome to BuzzMusic Caleb Heran. “Where Do W" Go From Here?” is such a"tear-jerker, was it easy being honest with your emotions on this record, or did you find it a little challenging? It was honestly really easy to write “Where Do W" Go From Here?” since the song accurately represented something that happened in my past. I just sat down and drew on my emotions at those moments, and everything came naturally. It felt really therapeutic. When creating music, what tools do you always keep ready in case an idea sparks, like instruments or a notebook ect? There are two things I always have ready in case an idea sparks: the Notes app and the Voice Memos app. I use the Notes app to quickly jot down any lyrics or concepts I think of and the Voice Memos app if a melody ever comes to mind. I also like to keep my guitar handy since it helps me further develop melodies and lyrics. As an artist with many messages in their records, what would you like your listeners to take away from "Where Do We Go From Here?" I want listeners to know that healing is a necessary process we all have to go through at points. It's perfectly valid not to be happy all the time, and I hope that listening to the song helps people realize that sadness is an emotion we all have to handle. What's next for you? There are so many things coming up that I'm excited about! The most immediate is another single, and I'm hoping to release my debut EP shortly as well. I'm also trying to lock in my first tour towards the end of the summer. Instagram TikTok
- The American Hotel System Discusses‘Where My Soul Has Been,’ in A New Album
Coming in hot from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is powerhouse five-piece alternative rock band, The American Hotel System, with their latest thrilling record, ‘Where My Soul Has Been.’ We've had the pleasure of learning the ins and outs of Grand Rapids band The American Hotel System, who never shies away from unleashing their sound that spins classic elements of traditional rock n' roll. Their live sound is larger than life, and listeners can experience that within the band's punchy 11-track album, ‘Where My Soul Has Been.’ The album kicks into gear with the introductory and title track, "The Feeling," which opens with a dreamy yet mysterious introduction that quickly ramps up the alternative rock energy. As we blast full throttle into the track, lead vocalist Jacob Betts takes us on an epic journey of reflecting on the past and yearning to reach those feelings we experienced when times were good. There's so much meaning in this track, and we can't wait to experience the entire record that touches on "The Feeling" we want to relive once more. Track two, "Alt Game," wastes no time and quickly jumps into a lively and fiery alternative rock anthem with quick instrumentals and Betts's charismatic performance. Mind you, this track is only 40 seconds long, but it packs a heavy punch that leads into the third track without a dull moment in sight. The album's third track, "Breakdown," picks up where "Alt Game" left off, with a mighty rhythm guitar leading the way alongside a wailing lead guitar and the thickest alternative rock instrumentals. As the drums continue driving the energy forward, we hear sonic and vocal similarities to Nirvana's "In Bloom," while Betts leads us to the cathartic hook. This song feels like a reflective anthem that sings of navigating through life's chaos and not knowing where to start, something we can all relate to. Reaching the fourth track, "Chains," The American Hotel System turns the energy down a notch as a warm lead guitar strums its way through our speakers alongside Betts' gentle and warm vocals. While singing of wondering if he'll fall or fly, The American Hotel System leads us into a soothing instrumental while Betts clarifies that getting your way through the weight of the world just takes a little faith, hope, and determination. Jumping into the smooth and country-esque fifth track, "Deaf Ears," The American Hotel System offers a sweet country edge with a tender violin arrangement alongside their toe-tapping sounds. As Betts vocalizes why we try to get our voices heard when no one's listening, he reminds us that some people just lack the understanding to listen and help induce change. This song is truly touching, and it's the perfect mid-way pick-me-up. Reaching the album's mid-way point with "Nothing Is New," The American Hotel System opens this song on another gentle note with warm electric guitar strums and Betts vocals that sing of life's repetitive cycles during such an odd time. This chilling track is a soulful and heartfelt alternative rock lullaby, and we couldn't have asked for a more honest song to help move us forward on our personal journeys. A similar electric guitar melody as the track prior melts through our speakers on "Fire," where Betts meets our speakers with the utmost heart, soul, and emotion. We love the addition of the bright background violin that adds heaps of emotion on top of The American Hotel System's cathartic performance. This sweet tune packs so many authentic and genuine feelings while Betts belts his vocals and asks for some sort of pain relief from burning in life's fires. Onto the eighth track, "21st," The American Hotel System slowly and peacefully opens this tune with plucky electric guitar melodies and soft background pads. Listening to Betts' familiar and tender vocals, he sings of the 21st century's turmoil and the loneliness, fake love, and negative experiences it's brought. There's so much emotional relief in this song, and we're sure listeners will adore this cathartic ode to living in such a hectic time to be alive. Hopping into track number nine, "Lori's Song," we're met with a vibrant electric guitar melody that sets the downtempo, reflective yet passionate tone. As Betts begins serenading us, he touches on someone special who got heartbroken by someone else. This song packs a ton of emotion, something we expect from any The American Hotel System tune. As they ramp up the energy and drive, they close the song with the brightest and heaviest instrumentals that sonically express pain and strife. Onto another familiar track, "Loyalty," we've had the chance to feature this upbeat tune prior to the album's drop. It's an exhilarating alternative rock tune that sings of uplifting your neighbor in these chaotic modern times. Betts's lively vocals paired with The American Hotel System's thrilling instrumentals make for one punchy listening experience. After an array of emotional tracks, this one pumps through our speakers to pick up the energy once more. Landing on the album's eleventh and final track, "Talk, Inc," The American Hotel System gets the energy flowing with tight drum breaks, bright electric guitars, and a dense bass line. As they creep towards the song's first verse, Betts takes the song by storm and blasts us with vocals that depict that hatred for others telling him what to do, when to change, and what he's doing wrong. This punchy and anthemic track leaves the listener empowered and closes the album with an explosive bang. Experience the pain, pleasure, and ferocity of The American Hotel System's latest 11-track album, ‘Where My Soul Has Been,’ now available on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here. - Skyman Shows Us His Raw Emotions Through Tender Lyrics On His Latest Release, “Now I Know"
Skyman was born in Lagos in the 90s and was exposed to Western pop music as a kid. As he got older, he started writing lyrics of his own in high school but never recorded or shared them with anyone. However, when he moved to Cyprus in 2014 to pursue higher education, he started dedicating more time and energy to his craft and started gaining local attention with his ear-catching freestyle. In 2018 Skyman released his first mixtape, 'Class Act,' which showed listeners his talent and potential. In 2019, he moved to Glasgow, UK, where he released his debut EP, 'Take To The Skies' in 2020 and 'Class Act 2' in 2021. Skyman returns with his latest release, "Now I Know," featuring Sonia on the chorus as the track selected feature. The duo is a perfect match for this track, as the ambient production takes you away. "Now I Know" opens up with Sonia's angelic and soothing vocals on the chorus, keeping you singing along till the very end of the track. Skyman jumps in on the first verse and gets us going with lines about his connection with his other half. He gave her his soul and made her his queen, entrusting her with a role that she played well as Skyman flows on. Desiring the high life with her, Skyman says he could never repay her for all that she's done for him. Instead, she is his motivation to create the life he wants them to share. As the verses continue, Skyman elevates the content and shares startling revelations of his dishonesty and broken trust. "Now I Know" delivers not only harmonious bars and fast-hitting lines, but the storyline also takes the listener on a dramatic hip-hop adventure. Don't wait any longer and stream Skyman (Ft. Sonia) "Now I know" today. Welcome to BuzzMusic Skyman. We're so excited to have you with us today. Your lyrical work on "Now I Know" is phenomenal; how did you create the concept of this record? Let us in on the writing process. Thanks for having me again, guys. For this record, I first heard the beat in 2016 from a producer I was working with in Cyprus then. When he played the beat, I immediately loved it, and the melody for the hook just came to me, but the lyrics were nowhere near what it is now. It was not even in Greek. However, I wrote a verse to it too, but I felt those lyrics didn't do justice to the beat because I liked the beat so much. So I left the beat alone for years and said I'll come back to it one day when I've got better inspiration, then I basically forgot about it. So in 2020, I had just released my debut EP, "Take To The Skies," and wanted to start something new so I was going through my beat archives and stumbled on the beat, then all the emotions I felt from the first day heard it came back to me. Remembering that the beat was made by a producer in Cyprus and that being where I really started making music, I thought to use this as an opportunity to pay homage to the culture and the language spoken there, which is Greek, I still wanted to keep the melody I had initially. From listening to a couple of Greek songs, I had direction for writing. The point was to let out emotions I have held back for so long on this record, and I knew it would involve some singing, and I wanted to sing on it, but I didn't want it to be just me. "Now I Know" has an addictive chorus; how did you know Sonia's would perfectly match this record's vibe? I think one of the things I'm blessed with in music is creating choruses. I had the initial melody in mind, and I was looking for a Greek singer because it was all about paying homage to the Greek culture, as I explained earlier, so I came across some of Sonia's work on the internet immediately after hearing her voice, I knew it would work very well for my idea. I reached out to her with the concept, and she was able to pull it off easily. I told her about the melody and the lyric "I'm sorry my love" and she came up with the rest. It works well because she has a very soothing voice which makes the lyrics of the hook more genuine. Spending all those hours in the studio recording your raw emotions, were there any moments where you had to hold certain things back? Or do you have an all honesty policy with your music? When I'm in the studio, it's not like I'm sworn to honesty haha, but I just let it flow. It all just depends on how well the beat speaks to me. This usually determines what and how much I say and sometimes even the delivery I use. For this record, I had like 3 verses, because, as I said earlier, I wanted to let all my bottled-up emotions out, so there was no holding back on this one. Then again, though, you can't really say everything in one record. As an experienced rapper in this rigid music industry, is there anything you wish you had learned sooner? Explain why? It feels like the music industry gets tougher every day, and as I've been doing this for a while now, of course, I've learned a whole lot, however, there are things I wished I had learned earlier, these include how to make beats and produce a track from start to finish because when I was making my first mixtape, I had to rely on favors and after a point pay for studio time to do all that. This delayed the progress of the project, and even if I was learning the basics of production then, I wasn't fully dedicated because I was also a full-time student and allocated my time from music to writing and practicing my raps. However, if I had learned that earlier, I would have had more songs out by now and would have been so much better at it. Also, it would have saved me so much money. Another thing I wished I knew sooner was how to actually market myself as an artist, simply because what's the point of having good songs if they are not been heard by the target it was intended for. Even now, I still have a lot to learn about music marketing, but earlier, the numbers were so discouraging that I felt a bit uninspired to continue and even took a long break. If I had known then what I know now I would have been at much greater heights. All good, though; there's still time to reach those heights. What's next for you? Well, I'm currently working on my EP, which releases later this year. I'm very excited for this one because it's the first project where, even though I'm working with producers, I have creative freedom over the instrumentals being made, and we make stuff happen in real-time. It's going to comprise 5-6 tracks, but it's a dynamic project, and I just can't wait to share it with the world. Instagram
