  • Robson Santos Takes a Witty Approach to His Country’s Politics With His Song, “Golpe Do Urubu”

Rio de Janeiro born artist Robson Santos releases his entertaining song, “Golpe do Urubu”. Robert has lived in a variety of cities across Brazil, and in Cleveland, Ohio, and is currently residing in Belo Horizonte. Robson Santos is dedicated to sharing his homeland’s music with the rest of the world. He co-writes and works with artists such as Noato Luiz, Henrique Annes, Filó Machado, Amaury Angelo, Adriano Campagnani and others. With the release of his album titled 'Teimosia', featuring his hit “Golpe do Urubu” with Cibele Codonho, we are suitably impressed. We are equally captivated by his soothing brass melodies and well-rounded instrumentation. “Golpe do Urubu” begins with jazz-like instrumentation and groovy brass melodies, together with light percussion and a variety of string elements. The underlying production also provides light chiming background synths, providing a lighthearted feel to the song. Listeners familiar with Robson’s music anticipate the arrival of Robson Santos’ crisp and deep vocals; he articulates each word. The song drew inspiration from the election in Brazil in 2018. Taking a sarcastic and witty approach to writing the track, he also desires to get his message across. He has taken a firm stance on his country’s politics. Robson Santos’ music has been distributed all over Brazil. His music is joyous. Robson Santos continues to work vigorously to share his tasteful sound with the rest of the world. Listen to “Golpe do Urubu” here. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Robson Santos! We’re captivated by your sound and intrigued by your song “Golpe do Urubu”. What made you want to write the song around Brazil’s election? The political situation in Brazil just before and after the election suggested That there were a lot of maneuvers to elect the present President. Fake news, robots, WhatsApp and Facebook illegal massive messages are examples of what happens. This motivated me to write a protest song with light sarcasm against this. Your music serves incredibly well-rounded instrumentation, who were some artists that inspired you growing up? Milton Nascimento, Djavan, Filo Machado, Beto Guedes and other artists of the “ Clube da Esquina” are among the artists that inspired me. You’ve been recording and releasing music for over 20 years! Do you think your music has changed or grown over time? Yes! Although the lyrics are somehow following the same tendency ( love, romance, social justice, humor) the harmony has grown with the help of fantastic Brazilian musicians. Your music is something to see live. Any upcoming shows in the future? We are preparing a ton of shows in Brazil. The show's name will be Terra which means ground. Only females musicians will be playing with me under the direction of Luisa Mitre, a great pianist. The first show is scheduled for the first week of May. instagram.com/oficialrobsonsantos #BuzzMusic

  • Rising Cleveland Hip Hop Artist Duway Shares His "VI$ION" With BuzzMusic

Welcome to BuzzMusic Duway! Knowing you’ve begun your songwriting journey at such an early age, in what ways has your artistry evolved over time? Whenever I would write a song, I would always challenge myself to create something greater than what I created last time. I sometimes try to step out of my comfort zone. Tell us about your label “VI$ION”. What are your intentions with this movement? Vi$iON is a movement I created for talented individuals who aren’t as popular as others like myself to have an opportunity to show the world their passion for what they love to do. The meaning behind the name is turning dreams into reality. Let’s move on to your music! We enjoyed listening to your “VI$ION” EP! What was the main theme behind this project? The theme was based on me having a visualization of becoming successful overnight lol. While creating the project I had high hopes of receiving a record deal because at the time I felt like it was an opportunity for me to gain exposure. Did you stumble upon any unique challenges during the creation of this? I sometimes wanted to give up on making music at the time because I had so much drive and ambition but yet every opportunity I had would always vanish also dealt with a lot of doors slammed in my face.. but I guess not everyone is given that superstar lifestyle. Which song from your EP “VI$ION” do you feel best represents the project’s concept and why? Focused, because focused basically sums up everything I was going thru at the moment and it explains how I try to keep going. What can fans expect next from you? More music, clothing, performances. Currently working on my next project tilted “Mundane” which would be an LP and also going on tour soon. Listen to "VI$ON" here. instagram.com/duwayofficial #BuzzMusic

  • Honor Flow Productions Pays Homage to the People and Places That Made Them Who They Are

Honor Flow Productions is a Los Angeles based trio, spitting old-school rap with a timeless message. In 2019 they were embraced by communities around the world. After completing a summer tour in Japan entitled The Nice To 三つ:ミツ Tour and headlining a show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, the band knew that they had to keep the ball rolling into 2020 and released the visuals for their single "It’s All Love". The video for "It's All Love" features all three members of Honor Flow Productions: DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”, ELIMN8 and DJISLORD as they take us on a journey through their city, their past, and introduce us to the people who have impacted them. As the video begins we are shown DJ Chuck as he’s being photographed professionally, this shot is juxtaposed by one of him standing in a schoolyard; presumably, the one where he spent his youth. The rapper recounts the moments in his childhood, that feel so far away from who and where he is now. ELIMIN8’s lyrics, tell the story of a time when the odds were stacked against him and the only person who believed in him was his mother. Visually, we see that he is now healthy, happy and successful. The message shared in this song is subtle but strong. Through its storytelling and visuals, the spectator is filled with hope that things do get better. Staying true to their west coast heritage, this Cali trio made sure to show love to the city of dreams in their new visuals. Los Angeles streets and skylines blend perfectly with the laid back hip hop beat. It’s plain to see that HFP loves what they do, and I’m sure you will too. Stream "It's All Love" on Spotify. Hey Honor Flow Productions, welcome back to Buzz Music and thank you for being here. The new visuals are so chill and we love it. How did you come up with the storyboard for this video? DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”: Thank you for having us again! Much appreciated. The music video for “It’s All Love” was a collaboration between the three of us and filmmaker Andrew “GreenGreeem” Choi. This is the second straight music video we have shot with him, with “Elevation” being the first. It was a long time coming given Andrew, ELIMN8, and I attended our first two years of college together and we always wanted to work with each other. The stars just aligned right with these two music videos. Our process with him is very much throwing a list of ideas to the wall, based on the concept, musical sonics, and lyrics theme of the track, and seeing what sticks. With “It’s All Love,” given it’s an ode to our upbringing and the people and places that made us who we are today, combined with the music being very breezy with a West Coast feel, we wanted it to be up close, personal and bright in colors. ELIMN8: I like to think we trusted Andrew’s vision for how the video should look. Of course, we had our creative input listened to, but he was already ahead of the game. He simply had a great vision of how things should look because he enjoyed the song. DJisLORD: We just wanted to represent our city, the City of Los Angeles as an additional character to our music video. L.A. wasn't going to be just in the background and the places we chose to shoot at depicted that to pay homage to Chuck and ELIMN8's childhood and teenage life. DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”: For me, “It’s All Love” is maybe my favorite video we have shot thus far because it’s so personal. Having my moms and little sister in the video, shooting scenes on the basketball court at my junior high, the place where I first started to rap, was a full-circle moment. And that is just two Easter eggs from all 3 of us that we incorporated in the video. We shared so much ourselves on-screen that upon multiple viewings, you’ll learn something new about H.F.P. This song is very honest, with a positive message of hope. What advice would you give a young fan, when it comes to chasing their dreams? ELIMN8: There are so much *Laughs.* I’ll land on telling a fan not to tell everyone their dreams. We live in a world where people play it safe and as a result, won’t put it all on the line to go after what they want. Most people only see that dream from the perspective of playing it safe and try to talk you out of it. Dreams are best seen put into action. Lord: Allow yourself to make mistakes and do not be afraid of failure. Be honest, unapologetic with your dreams, and most importantly be genuine and authentically yourself. Pursue your dreams like the body needs oxygen to breathe. Love what you do and if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. Chuck: The road to chasing your dreams is an extremely long, uphill battle. It is truly the road less traveled. But if you are in it for the right reasons, and absolutely love what you do, everything is worth it. There is nothing more fulfilling to me personally than being a musician. Every bit of it brings me joy. The old saying “it takes 10 years to become an overnight success” rings true to our story and has become a defining characteristic for this band. We have close to a 15-year history and we are JUST now benefiting a little of the fruits of our labor. So for anyone, if you feel in your heart and soul that your dreams are calling you and you can not go a day without thinking about it, you have to take a leap of faith, leave room for the magic and go for it. One of the worst things in life to me is having regrets. To achieve the impossible, your decision making requires you to operate with no regrets. You guys accomplished so much in 2019. What was it like touring in Japan and headlining at The Troubadour? ELIMN8: Japan was for me were things coming full circle. I lived in Ibaraki way back when teaching junior high school English. Before I left, I told myself that the next time I would come back, it would be as an artist, and I did. Coming back for the tour was just right. It was probably the most relaxed I felt in a long time. It was great speaking Japanese and being around the people. I love Japan; it’s my second home. Lord: Japan was amazing; it’s freakin JAPAN! The food, the people, the sites, and the music scene was probably the most authentic experience we have ever been a part of! It was HOT and HUMID. I probably lost 30 lbs out there *laughs.* The reception from the Japanese audience and fans was phenomenal. It's humbling to know despite the language barrier they knew the words to our songs and gleefully sang along. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it every time. Chuck: I stand by what I said previously when we sat down with ya’ll right before we left for Japan, “The Nice to 三つ/ミツ Tour” is one of my proudest moments in the history of Honor Flow Productions. We have always intended for H.F.P. to be worldwide and take our music beyond the sunny shores of Southern California, and our first time accomplishing this was unforgettable. Each night, we were on the bill with some of the best local talents in each respected city; top-notch, masters of their craft, and brought out the very best in us on stage. We made it a point to watch and support each band because as we said on stage every night, we were thankful that they accepted us in their music scene for that night. All of those bands could have easily said “fuck these L.A. guys” and left before our set started *laughs.* But to get respect, you gotta give respect; and there were so much love and respect on and off the stage from everyone we interacted with. That love and respect actually still continues to this day as we have kept in touch with some of the bands we played with and have introduced their music to our peoples here back home and vice versa. It was actually my first time in Japan, while Lord and especially ELIMN8, have already spent time out there before. I was completely wide-eyed with every step I took out there. Every moment I kept thinking “I can’t believe we actually pulled this off and we’re out here on tour!” I think that wide-eyed spirit and energy was perfectly captured in the documentary we released on the tour. We will without question, most definitely be back on tour in Japan in the near future. ELIMN8: The Troubadour was dope in its own way too. It was H.F.P.’s first time headlining there in a while. Lord: The Troubadour was a fantastic show. We were surrounded by amazing artists, family, friends, and fans, It was a great homecoming especially coming back from Japan and performing to the hometown crowd. Chuck: The three of us concluded before we even landed back in Los Angeles, that our next hometown show couldn’t be just anywhere. You don’t go on tour internationally and play your next show back home in a dive bar or in someone’s backyard [laughs]; at least not immediately after. We had to continue to take things up to another level. So for a couple of months, we were in contact with venues and bookers looking for the right show, and the opportunity to return back to the legendary, hardwood floor stage of The Troubadour for the first time in seven years, a headlining show at that, was the right show we were looking for. Just in the short time span for us preparing for the Japan tour, we grew so much as performers and we wanted to give our hometown family, friends, and supporters that same “Big Stages Only” set that we constructed for “The Nice to 三つ/ミツ Tour,” with some additional surprises. One of those surprises being the incredible, powerhouse vocalist, Tricia Isabela joining us on stage. It was such a privilege to play at a historical venue rich with history again; especially at a moment when we are really hitting our strive as a band. 2019 was a breakthrough year for us and ending it at The Troubadour was a powerful statement. In this video, you remember the past so you can appreciate your present. What can we expect from you guys in the future? ELIMN8: As always, the fans can expect an honest glimpse into the world from our perspectives, via dope music and great interviews! Also, nothing short of global domination. We know we’re dope. I think Japan showed us that we can rock in front of anyone, anytime. While I was able to emcee a bit in Japanese, we were still working with a language barrier and had the crowd rocking. I have a feeling Europe will be next! Lord: If the universe aligns and it helps conspire with us, lord willin' another world tour. But stay tuned. Like a good book, a great movie, and one of your favorite shows that will leave you hanging, it’s to TO BE CONTINUED. Chuck: I echo the sentiments of my brothers, along with these possible clues… while we’re not done with presenting The B.L.A.C.K. Odyssey experience to the world just yet, both on stage and visually, we are always, like Rakim once said, “Thinking of a master plan.” We’re always up to something. And I’ll leave it at that. But with that said, we must emphasize how incredibly blessed and forever grateful to everyone that lends their ears to our music and supports Honor Flow Productions. We promise this “odyssey” is just getting started. Instagram.com/HonorFlowProductions Twitter.com/HFPmusic #BuzzMusic

  • Chellcy Reitsma and Casper Mason Release Soulful Duet “Cross the Line”

Chellcy Reitsma is a California-born Indie artist who grew up listening to American folk, rock, and full gospel. After studying art and dance, she founded an ethnic dance company called Fringe Benefits in Chicago and ended up touring the world and performing with a multitude of bands and artists. Chellcy now lives in Malta where she began her musical career in 2015 due to major dance injuries. Through her struggles, Chellcy budded into a lively indie/alternative musician who is now able to capture her audience through the stories she tells in her songs. Although she never said goodbye to her life as a visual artist, in collaboration with artist Casper Mason, Chellcy Reitsma creates a new type of art in her new release “Cross the Line.” This upbeat indie duet begins with sparse acoustic plucks in the background of Chellcy and Casper’s vocals. This allows both artists to express their natural vocal talent, and for the focus to be drawn to the lyrics at the start of the song in order to draw in their audience with a romantic story. At this point, “Cross the Line” sounds like it should be a duet soundtrack to a Disney movie. During the first chorus, a gentle cymbal percussion joins the guitar and introduces an increase in instrumental energy for the rest of the song. The lyrical tone of the song also shifts from a fairytale type love story to an inspiring message about pushing boundaries and building resilience. In her songwriting of “Cross the Line,” Chellcy included powerful metaphors like “people living in glass houses shouldn’t be throwing stones anyway.” With “Cross the Line,” Chellcy will have her audience writing down her insightful lyrics so they never forget. Welcome to BuzzMusic Chellcy Reitsma! We were uplifted by the message in your new release “Cross the Line.” What inspired you to make such a motivational song? Thank so much BuzzMusic! My inspiration for making the song is all the brave partnerships I know who have faced so much opposition to their union and deal with discrimination on a regular basis.  I wrote this song to honor all the people out there in relationships that are unconventional and/or unfavorable to their families/society/religions for whatever reason and to encourage people to also be inspired by them; to love whomever they want regardless of opposition no matter what that opposition may be or who it is coming from. Be true to yourself and love who you want. You sing about being able to “cross the line” when you are together, can you elaborate what you mean when you say “cross the line?” The imaginary divisions between people. People draw so many invisible lines, metaphorical lines, theoretical lines, ethical lines, cultural lines, religious lines, economical lines, country lines, lines between what they view as right and wrong, lines between what is appropriate or acceptable and what is not, the list keeps going on endlessly and is different for everyone from every culture.  So for me in the song, "cross the line" refers to whatever line/divide the individuals need to cross to love each other. You and Casper collaborated very will in the creation of “Cross the Line.” What inspired you to make this song a duet? How does collaborating with other artists influence your music? I was mid-production on the song when I met Casper. I wrote the lyrics of the song and was working on the melody lines and delivery of the song before recording the vocals and adding final touches when I met Casper at a songwriting competition in Valletta, Malta.  I heard his voice, his timbre, and his original song (which was very inspiring) and knew immediately that I had to meet this guy and see if he would like to collaborate on Cross the Line. We hit it off immediately, he loved the song and concept, and we both felt that our voices would sound great together. We met up and tried singing together and the song just felt like it was written as a duet. He happened to be in Malta on tour at the same time that I had booked to record the vocals at Railway Studios, so the timing couldn't have been better. Collaborating together helped to further develop the melody lines and vocal depth of the song. You lived for a while in Florence, Italy and Stockholm, Sweden. How did these experiences shape the type of artist you are today? Living in different countries and becoming an immigrant to Malta have proposed some of the biggest challenges and greatest rewards in my life.  It is not easy to live, work and study in a new country and try to fit in with or learn about a new culture and to find your place and build a new network of friends and colleagues, but it is extremely rewarding and eye-opening.  I feel that these experiences have made me realize that our sameness as humans far outweighs the differences. This has made me want to make more socially aware art and music that highlights our sameness. It has also made me more aware of the possibility and importance of individuals in making an impact on others and promoting change and the importance of community and reaching out to existing communities and building new ones.  This has affected me as an artist and how I work because I am now very keen on collaborations both locally and internationally, whereas before these experiences I was more the isolated solo artist in the studio. What can we expect to see from you throughout 2020? In 2020 I am very focused on more international collaborations and producing some new songs with the Animal Farm Music in the UK, Railway Studios in Malta, and Sound Village Music in Germany.  I will be releasing a new song in the fall called "The Rain", my second release with Chuck Moyen of Frankfurt, Germany. I have also recently launched my newly formed band in my name, which I will be working on some new songs with to release in late 2020 and in 2021 and performing at our first foreign festival in the UK in July and doing as many gigs as possible in Malta to further launch the band. instagram.com/chellcyreitsma facebook.com/chellcyreitsma chellcyreitsma.com #BuzzMusic

Dylan is known for giving an honest perspective on life and created the project 'Alternate' to reflect on his decision to take an alternate path in life. • “Eternal Eyes” by John DeMena Is What You Need on Your Playlist Right Now

John DeMena is a Los Angeles rock artist who discovered his passion for music at a very young age in his native Spain. He has worked with producers and musicians of notable bands such as Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Jane’s Addiction. We’re excited to bring you his single “Eternal Eyes,” out of his latest album “Dreams and Lies.” The song features Glen Sobel (drums), Pete Griffin (Bass), and Matt Rohde (Keyboard) and grounds itself in a majestic, yet trippy atmosphere with big, unique sounds. Huge dynamics are heard in the instrumental to begin such a massive-sounding song. The slide guitar and drums crescendo perfectly to excited the start of “Eternal Eyes”.  As the intro fades away, the song picks up in tempo and changes the vibe to sound reminiscent of classic 70’s rock. To us, “Eternal Eyes” sort of sounds like a newer sounding song from the band Alice In Chains, but with a trippier vibe. As the song continues, it does not follow the conventional chorus-verse structure but, it does have different parts that sound different from each other, which gives it more than one feeling through “Eternal Eyes”. The song can go from spacey to uplifting, to nostalgic, and makes the listener feel many emotions. “Eternal Eyes” has the elements of an old rock song, however, the creative styles and new knowledge John DeMena contains makes the track interesting throughout the whole listen. Stream "Eternal Eyes" on Spotify. Hey John DeMena! Welcome to BuzzMusic, we are more than happy to be representing you and your new single “Eternal Eyes”.  Before starting your solo career, you had mentioned that you had played with some major artists.  That obviously brought your musical skills to a new level, but did it also help you with your networking skills?  Did those artists teach you how to make better connections? Every project and artist you work with teaches you something of great value, and I’m so thankful for all the people I have worked with. There are artists that took me under their wing when I was just a teenager and have become lifelong companions along this musical journey, and there are many recent ones that have helped my music career since I moved out here. I’m blessed. The music you make is like nothing I have heard from any rock band’s today.  To me, I feel as if everyone is trying to appeal to someone else, but you are making music for yourself and because you like your sounds.  How do you maintain that control of yourself, and not give in to pressure from other people/businesses? Well, waves come and go, but the ocean is always there, you know? I’m not chasing the latest trend in rock and roll nor write music trying to appeal to a specific audience. I’m a storyteller first. I focus on the story and then write the music around it, but always staying true to myself. And paradoxically, sometimes the more personal and intimate the song is, the more universal it becomes. You have been playing the guitar for quite some time.  Do you always make the guitar parts for all of your songs?  Do you ever create drum or bass parts as well? I write all the music and lyrics. I record all guitar/bass parts and use software to program the drum and keyboard parts in pre-production. Then I arrange everything and work with session musicians in the final recording phase of the album. What is your favorite aspect of the Los Angeles music scene? I just love its diversity and abundance. The list of shows and venues, big and small, is simply breathtaking. I have seen concerts here that half of my friends all over the world would kill to see. It’s true that many things are changing and it has been sad seeing some iconic venues close their doors recently, but the Los Angeles music scene is still hard to beat by any other city. Since it is a new year, of course, we are going to get some new music.  Are there any albums or major collaborations in the future of 2020? We’re working on two amazing music videos that will come out in the following months. I’m also arranging some very interesting songs for a project that will see the light soon. Plus, I am in the middle of finishing all the writing for the next record. facebook.com/johndemenamusic instagram.com/johndemena twitter.com/johndemena #BuzzMusic

  • "Want Me" Is a Brilliant Bad Attitude Modern Pop Track Delivered by Stacey Kelleher

Stacey Kelleher is a Nashville based pop/rock singer-songwriter who isn't afraid to push limits. From blending electronic elements from acts such as Dua Lipa and Halsey, guitars from Post Malone and Green Day, Stacey is able to fuse multiple genres to create a unique sound that is topped off with her perfectly raspy voice. Despite being only 22, Stacy has earned multiple musical honors and accolades. In 2019 alone she played over 120 shows in New England and beyond. She is now working on new music and performing more shows. Stacey's latest release "Want Me" is a brilliant bad attitude modern pop track that gives a perfect sense of space and rhythm between the soothing instrumentation and her beautifully raspy voice. "Want Me" features banging drums, a soothing synth bell, a simple yet intricate production, and Stacey's emotional vocal performance. The vocal performance from Stacey is something truly special; it feels both raw and modern in all of the good ways, the almost edgy attitude in her voice perfectly suits the "bad girl" storytelling of the song while also keeping her beautifully smooth raspy tone. "Want Me" is something that you can crank at home, in the club, or the car and have a good time jamming along. A definite track for all of your feel-good playlists. Stream "Want Me" on Spotify here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Stacey! Your music style is something that is very unique, we're loving it! What had inspired you to blend in with all those various elements to create your style? Hey y’all, thanks for having me and thank you for the kind words! Yeah, it’s a total blend of lots of different things. I’ve always been inspired by so many different genres, and in the past, I had trouble deciding what my sound would be because I couldn’t pick just one sound. So for this new era of stuff, I thought, “why not use all of it?” So after bouncing around ideas and sounds with my producer, Alisse Laymac, in Los Angeles, we finally found something that worked and that drew from all different styles of music. She’s the greatest and really helped me find the style and finished product that I loved. I love everything from rock to pop to hip-hop to R&B, and I think that’s reflected in the song. What was the songwriting and production process for "Want Me" like? Was there a particular element or story that inspired the song? So I wrote “Want Me” with my good friend Mitchell Proctor a couple of years ago back in Boston when we were both attending Berklee, and then it was recorded that same summer in Los Angeles. We also did some work on it in Nashville, where I’m currently based. Alisse Laymac produced it and Zachary Pennington mastered it, and my friend Noah Wiehl added in those sick grungy guitars in the bridge and last chorus. And yes, the story behind it was that I got totally blindsided and manipulated by a really mean boy who made me believe a lot of false promises - he made me believe that he actually wanted to be with me through a string of lies, and then totally changed his story and I was just totally shocked. I was so mad when I sat down to write with Mitchell that we just decided to make it a stream of consciousness. I didn’t want to write a sad song - I wanted to project through the narrative of the lyrics how I was actually feeling, which is blunt and straight-up. And filled with swears, hahaha. After playing an incredible amount of shows, do you have any goals for future shows in 2020 that you're aiming to achieve? Are there any other goals as an artist that you have? Yes! I’m looking to play more full band shows this year, which I’ve been starting off the year doing in Nashville. I’d also love to tour and I’m working on setting up some dates for later this year. I’d also love to be an opening act on a tour, so that’s something I’m looking into booking as well. How has living in Nashville inspired the music you're creating? Being considered the music hub of North America their music be a lot of inspiring content constantly around you! Is there a city that you dream to write music in? Nashville really keeps me grounded and inspires me to work super hard and get the best songs I possibly can. There are so many incredible musicians, writers, producers, and creators here, and it’s so motivating and humbling to see and be a part of. I’d love to write more out in Los Angeles, and even London would be super cool. I’d also love to get up to New York as well. Each city kind of has a different way of approaching writing, which is so interesting and cool to see. Thank you for talking with us Stacey, we look forward to hearing more music from you in the near future. What can fans anticipate next from you? More singles! I have another song coming out in April and even more after that - look out for a steady stream of music in 2020. Definitely some tour dates, maybe some new merchandise, and I’m also really interested in collaborating with other musicians, too. I write for other artists as well, so hopefully some cuts by others! Thank you so much for chatting with me - I really appreciate your time and support. Facebook.com/iamstaceykelleher Instagram.com/iamstaceykelleher staceykellehermusic.com #BuzzMusic

  • Experience the Best of Both Worlds in "Cali Nights Chicago Mornings" by Purple Tokyo

Purple Tokyo is an experience, to say the least. From mashing multiple genres together and exploring the dark and mysterious places of the mind, Purple Tokyo is able to create music that is familiar, fresh and exciting. The live shows of Purple Tokyo are even more of an experience. The shows feature musicians, visual artists, and filmmakers. Recently, Purple Tokyo has played at Pilsen Fest 2017 and in 2016 won the Chicago Nightlife Award for "Best Producer/Remixer". In 2020 Purple Tokyo released the song "Cali Nights Chicago Mornings" with the up and coming Chicago hip-hop artist MAKIA, who is known for his catchy hooks, and unique cadence and flow. "Cali Nights Chicago Mornings" is a perfect late-night experience that features synth-wave synths and drums, fresh but familiar effected vocal hooks, modulating melodies, and explosive verses from MAKIA. The song opens with synth-wave elements, then the main hook, and then teases the capabilities of MAKIA before delivering an exciting verse that will get you fired up. "Cali Nights Chicago Mornings" is able to make you feel both laid back and hyped up for anything, this unique crossover from Purple Tokyo and MAKIA is something that is able to be your soundtrack to no matter what you're doing. Hey Purple Tokyo, welcome to BuzzMusic! We're loving your sound and flairs between genres; it's quite unique! In "Cali Nights Chicago Mornings" what inspired the production and songwriting? Is there an element that gets created first and then everything builds off that? PT: The instrumental was created first. This had been a song I was really trying to harness the dark elements that have always been in my music. In this case, I imagine creating a soundtrack for The Montauk Project. Which was a government operation after WWII that illegally recruited human subjects/runaway kids for the purpose of mind control, space/interstellar travel and reverse engineering of extraterrestrial technology. Which was what the show “Stranger Things” was also inspired by. I've always been about creating music without thinking about a genre. In this case, Makia was able to bring hip hop into the mix and his voice just fit perfectly into the synth-wave/cyberpunk instrumental. MAKIA: The lyrics for CNCM were mainly inspired by the production itself.  Usually, when I create music, I take the time to really listen to what the beat is telling me. For this record, I automatically pictured the opening scene of Drive with Ryan Goslin. In a sense, the beat evoked the feeling of being a “badass” and inspired me to write from the context of having all the materialistic things I spoke upon. In reality, I haven’t actually acquired these things For your live shows, what inspires the creation of each set? Do you start with the music and build a visual around that? Or is there a story created pre-hand and everything else follows that? PT/MAKIA: My visuals and stage design are inspired by the mood and vibe of the records that I intend on performing for that specific show. One thing that I truly look forward to is to fully bring my ideas to life during my live shows. The story has always been there for me. At the moment the majority of it still lives in my head but being able to collaborate with the different visual artists has helped the process of bringing it to life. What would some of your influences be for the music that becomes written? Are there any idols that are looked up to? PT: My biggest musical influence has always come from Pink Floyd. It sounds like a “stoner” thing to say but they were pioneers in the music industry. From creating one of the first light shows to their genre blend and introducing electronic elements when no-one was really doing that. For this record, I really got sucked into the ’80s. Experimenting with vintage synths and gated reverb to give it a nostalgic yet future vibe. MAKIA: My influences for the music stem from being inspired by artists that I truly feel have been able to make a significant impact on music as a whole. For this particular record, I was definitely channeling Kayne West as you can hear it in the tone, melodies, and overall attitude of the record. Kanye West has always been an idol of mine despite some of the nonsensical things he’s said. Kid Cudi is also another artist who has played a pivotal role in my development as an artist. How did the collaboration with "MAKIA" begin? Was the song written together or were elements of the song created before everyone got together? PT/MAKIA: The collaboration started with a friend/collaborator of mine named Sam Hagensick who originally showed me the record. I decided to record over the beat, and eventually, Sam sent it over to Purple Tokyo who expressed that he was digging the concept. We finally connected in person in the alley of my old job at the Wit Hotel in which we briefly got to pick each other’s brains musically and artistically. From then on we spent hours tweaking the record to create the best possible version. It’s been quite the journey! It definitely feels good to finally see the record out amongst the world. Thank you for being here Purple Tokyo! Tell your fans, what is next? PT: I think its really important to talk about where the music is coming from. My focus is to dive further into video this year to show my fans where it all originates from as well as implement new live elements into my shows. MAKIA: New visuals and hot new music! purpletokyo.com #BuzzMusic

Could you tell us what lead to you coming up with your latest release ‘’Be The Change’’? “Be the Change” is the follow up single post the release of my first single “Is This the Way” which was my first global release as an independent artist. The amazing response received from people all across a post this release motivated me to come up with this follow up single. How would you describe the differences in the music industry in your homeland of India, compared to where you are now in the United States? The music industry here in US and back in India are different and unique in their own ways. While there is a lot of stress on film music back in India with independent music emerging strongly in recent times the music industry here is quite independent and has a more global reach. The internet is definitely playing a major role in music in both places. Indian music is diverse in its own ways but still includes similar music genres like Rock, Pop, Hip hop and Folk which are the major genres here. I want to bring together the best of both styles through my music and reach a global audience. You have been a musician for more than 10 years, that kind of experience is very impressive, and your experience can be heard in the quality of your music. Could we expect ‘’Be The Change’’ to be part of an album or body of work? Thanks for the great feedback. The song “Be the Change” has been released as an independent single. There is a plan to work off a full-fledged EP/album in the latter half of this year. But at this point, it's not sure whether this will be part of that project but people can expect more music coming forward this year. Being that its 2020 and the start of a new decade, what are some of the things you are hoping to achieve within these next 10 years? I am looking forward to creating quality music over the next decade and developing further as a musician. I have plans to explore different music genres over the years and evolve further as an artist. I believe music can have a great impact on people and I hope to create music that really inspires. I also look forward to performing more as well over the years and do some collaborations as well. What can fans anticipate next from you? I am planning to release 2 more singles over the next 2-3 months. These are a bit different from the prior released singles with respect to the song theme and music production. I hope fans get to see different aspects of my songwriting/music through these songs and follow me on this musical journey. instagram.com/nischal.raj #BuzzMusic
