- FKAJazz Released the Smooth-Sailing Hit “Feeling Felt”
We believe R&B is composed of many subgenres that make this genre so influential and riveting. “Feeling Felt” by FKAJazz and Natalie Oliveri is the blueprint of the specific sensational R&B we enjoy listening to. Starting with the production of this record, “Feeling Felt” had a classic rhythmic drum kick fused with different elements that sounded otherworldly. Many instrumentals from the keyboard, along with the elevating sound from the intricate components made this song super atmospheric. This production created an aura in “Feeling Felt” sounded super mellow and relaxing. The production of the beat helped set the serene setting that you mentally place yourself in during the song. However, nothing compares to the vocals that mesmerize. The vocals in “Feeling Felt” are feathery yet still had a powerful delivery. The vocals created the R&B element to the atmospheric song. The soulful vocals are fused with an intricate quality that not many vocalists have. “Feeling Felt” was a song that can cross blend into different genres. This atmospheric jazz hit is a single that will remain everlasting and memorable. Listening to “Feeling Felt” you become absorbed within this overtone ambiance that escapes you. Listen to “Feeling Felt” by FKAJazz and Natalie Oliveri here. Welcome to BuzzMusic FKAJazz! How was it growing up in Texas!? What were the biggest obstacles you had to overcome and what was the biggest lesson you learned from it? Growing up in Houston was great; which is in many ways very specific to the rest of Texas. Houston is surprisingly the most diverse city in the U.S. So from that perspective it was great to grow up in that environment. I went to music schools my whole life, starting on violin & piano and then eventually the saxophone so I had a great mix of friends from all walks of life. Interestingly enough, the challenge was (at least at the time I was growing up there), the jazz scene seemed to stop after school. There just didn’t seem to be much going on when I was living there and most of my musician's friends either moved to New York or New Orleans after school so it seemed like the thing to do. Tell us about your song “Feeling Felt”. What was the theme for this song you were aiming for? Feeling Felt describes a moment when 2 people feel a deep sense of empathy for each other in the most authentic way possible. I came across this concept from a girl I dated for a short while who was really into mindfulness. I thought it was a cool concept and would be great to create a song that brought the concept to life, as a way to spread what I think is a great tool for people to adopt in their own relationships. How would you describe the arrangement in “Feeling Felt” did you experiment with any new elements? At the core, most of the music I produce has a few reoccurring sounds that I use in different ways: Rhodes keyboard, live drums, vocoder & of course saxophone. This song I decided to take a different route and create a drum loop that would convey a sort of constant current versus live drums that might change and move around. I also leaned a little bit more in the electronic realm, using more ambient sounds & synth bass which was reminiscent of my time as an electronic producer (before FKAjazz, lol). Tell us about your songwriting approach to “Feeling Felt”? This song was really fun to put together. It was the first full collaboration I did with Natalie Oliveri; “Drag Me Down” which also features Natalie came later. Like most songs I write or co-write, with “Feeling Felt” I created the track, presented it to Natalie in a writing session and then she went to town creating these awesome lyrics that I absolutely loved right from the start. We went back & forth with some ideas to get it to the finish line but the whole process was pretty seamless. What’s next for you FKAJazz? What are you looking forward to this year? Before I answer that, thanks so much for having me on board. I look forward to seeing comments from the BuzzMusic fans and continuing the convo. Such a great opportunity so thank you! But yeah, 2020 has a lot in store. I’m releasing another album in February actually called “Lineage” which I’m really excited about. My collective, Trew Culture (@trewculturemusic) just went into the studio a week before Christmas and recorded 20 new tracks! It was insane but we just had a lot of ideas flowing! So there’s a lot of music we’ll be rolling out in the coming months. “Lineage,” unlike my last album, is going to be mostly instrumental; an opportunity for me to stretch out as a saxophonist versus the usual stuff I’ve been doing so I’m looking forward to people discovering that side of who I am as an artist. Let’s talk more about that soon. FKAjazz.com #BuzzMusic

Welcome to BuzzMusic Joshua! We'd love to learn more about you and your music! Could you please tell our readers about yourself and how you started your career in music? My life is literally a movie and a book. But ill give you a brief overview: I was born in Germany. My parents were military. We traveled throughout Europe. I was a young African American kid seeing the Mona Lisa, the Coliseum, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa whilst listening to 50 Cent, Biggie Smalls, & Eminem growing up. Moving around we ended up in Oregon and I started making beats on an MPC 1000, sampling records. During that time I started rapping every day as well. Eventually, I moved to San Diego CA during my high school years and I joined a band the summer of my graduation. While everyone went to college, I was sleeping on couches and floors and playing shows from San Diego to Hollywood. We had connections to an established band called "Unwritten Law". They have #1 singles on Major Labels and were an influential punk band in the 90's and early 2000's. The lead singer Scott Russo said I could live at his home until I figured out my plan. That was the first time I got to see the everyday lifestyle of a successful Rockstar behind the scenes. My band would record demos with him and we would open up for him and hang out backstage at his sold-out shows. After a few years of grinding with the band, we got signed to an indie label named Pacific Records. They got us opportunities to open for Justin Bieber, Post Malone, The Who, Pit Bull & Enrique Iglesias. It was an incredible experience. However shortly after the band disbanded, I then decided to move to Hollywood and enroll in a trade school called the "Musician's Institute". Since then I've seen the ups downs of Hollywood from living on the streets to my car to sleeping at the gym to even sleeping inside the school. It was a struggle, but I wouldn't trade it for anyone else come up. I was homeless and I was busking at the time just to keep my spirits up and try to make a few bucks along the way. One day after playing on Hollywood Blvd, I met DJ Khaled in a parking lot at The Ralphs on Sunset. I played him a song on the guitar and rapped for him and he put me on his SnapChat. The next day, he called me on the phone and told me I was very talented and to keep going and to never give up. That day honestly propelled my belief system to another level. There is so much more to my whole story but we'll save it for the next interview. This is going to be a very arrogant statement but one day I know there's going to be a movie made about my life. You've traveled across Europe and the United States. What was the experience like and did this make a big impact on the music you create? This is one of the biggest influences in my DNA make up. Traveling throughout Europe and The States gave me so much perspective on people and different cultures. I learned how to respect the differences of so many walks of life as well as see the similarities we all have as people. It also helped alleviate my fears of change. It taught me how to adapt in any situation, no matter the circumstance. Before I moved to Los Angeles, I never lived anywhere longer than 3 years. Every 3 years, I was uprooted and moved to another country or state. I always had to join a new school and make new friends in a new environment. I feel like my upbringing has prepared me for the lifestyle that I'm headed towards. Most importantly it's going to help me make an impact on the world. We love your new song "Jigga With the Dreads", can you dive into the meaning behind it? A lot of my music is created either from inspiration and/or ambition. Some songs are like capturing lighting in a bottle, while other songs are like trying to build a house from scratch. This one was like building a house. I was trying to write what I thought was a really great record. I was pushing myself to make a banger that slaps hard and has cool consistent melodies and a giant hook. Almost like every popular Nirvana song, but just in hip-hop form. Some songs I create from a genuine artistic expression, and some songs I create because I'm just trying to push myself to make something undeniably dope as f*ck. I came up with the hook from looking through my iPhone notes and I saw a phrase that said "I feel like Jigga with the dreads" which I wrote probably a few months before making the song as an ode to Jay-Z. He's arguably the greatest rapper to ever do it. He's married to one of the greatest singers to ever do it. He's got a beautiful family, the accolades, the wealth, the respect, the impact, and the success......and he's a black man with dreads. I feel like there's nothing more inspiring than that. Your love for a wide range of genres reflects in your music and we love that! Are there any unexplored genres that you're thinking of fusing into your music in 2020? To be honest, I have about 2 to 3 albums worth of acoustic folk-rock songs that I've written throughout the years. Mostly inspired by Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles, & Bob Dylan. I've been tapping into almost every genre for the last 10 years. Even though I've tapped into them all, It hasn't been an easy road. I'm still learning how to sound better and improve my skills. From learning how to sing to studying Beatles songs all the way to playing the guitar and the piano. I feel like all the trees that I've planted and watered are starting to bare its first real signs of fruit. That's my goal for 2020. Its to share all facets of myself as an artist as much as I can and inspire others to do the same. To just live like an artist who's only got a short time left on earth. To put it all out and share it with the world. From the perfections to the imperfections. So many artists including myself are so afraid to share their music. Let alone try another genre. They're just holding themselves back and I think its a disservice to what they're capable. It's like they're hoarding it away for the perfect opportunity. But the best time I believe to do anything is always the time right now. Thank you for talking with us Joshua! What releases can we anticipate in the New Year? In 2020, I'm going to defy as many limitations in my mind as possible. This year, I'm releasing one new song day a day for 365 days. No matter the genre. Right now I'm focusing on the current sound of melodic trap hip-hop. But give me few more months of that and I'll transition to Underground lyrical hip-hop to pop music to Acoustic Rock music and beyond. Its gonna be one helluva rollercoaster ride. I'm also filming music videos too as many of the songs as I can. As I said, I'm gonna push myself to do as much as I can. There is no box. This year is the year that I've finally found the courage to take the emergency breaks off and just GO! You can follow me on my website joshua365.com . Tell me your dreams and what problems you are having and I'd love to help motivate you to push past any limitations you feel you may have. My main goal is I want to touch billions of people with my message and my music. I want to spark the young and the old and next generation to follow their dreams with a fiery passion. Thank you for the interview! instagram.com/joshuamcnealmusic facebook.com/officialjoshuamcneal #BuzzMusic

Welcome back to BuzzMusic, Watch Rome Burn! You've had an amazing 2019! Can you tell us some of your favorite highlights from the past year? Jestyn: Definitely a big highlight was becoming a three-piece - Petey's heavy-and-frenetic bass playing really rounded out our sound, brought a lot of energy and a new sort of complexity and darkness to our songwriting and overall aesthetic. Speaking as the drummer, it's always rad to have a bigger rhythm section! It was also amazing to watch the positive response to our two singles we dropped - "Snakeskin", and "RADIO" - we're super stoked to release the rest of the album!! Petey: Well the highlight of my year was joining the band; I had never before found a group that I instantly clicked with enough to want to join, but not only did I want to join this band, I learned a new instrument just to do it. We love your song "RADIO", can you give us an exclusive look into the meaning behind the track? DREW:The song “Radio” could be about someone who is talking to the face they wear in public. Sort of realizing what they are to themselves and how different that person is from the one others see, but then even with that realization they make the choice to fool themselves into not seeing. While they’re mesmerized by their false identity, they are passed over by the world they’ve grown to resent and discard. This is a person who may go so far as to destroy themselves or the world to maintain their own delusions. A part of them must revel in the power they take knowing the truth and still defying it. 2019 was a strange year and I tried to take some of what I saw and put it in the song. Sometimes I feel like the whole planet is Caligula’s plaything. PETEY: Drew wrote the lyrics on this one, but when I listen to them, it resonates with me about a time in my life where I blamed everyone and anything for my own issues, resulting in a mess of mind. Thankfully I clawed my way out of that, but Drew paints a completely accurate picture in this song. Jestyn: What they said; they're philosophers, I just hit things with sticks... What are some goals that you have as a band for 2020? Watch Rome Burn: More songs, more videos, and more of us everywhere, all the time, while you sleep, in your dreams, on the billboards and in the magazines. At least before they all burn up. Who or what were some of the biggest influences on your music in 2019? DREW: In 2019, I listened to a lot of either 90's Acid house like Pump panel and Underworld, any gritty Russian hardstyle I could find, the Sega genesis Mortal Kombat soundtrack which I would play at the same time as Boyd Rice' spoken word album; Pantera's power metal from 1988, old horror movie soundtracks like Sleepwalkers, Suspiria and Phantasm; and a dubstep producer named Phex. I wanted to find music with energy but with a certain darkness. I listened to anything from Wax Trax! records but especially Thrill Kill Kult, every once in a while some Wagner or Hot Butter or better yet both at the same time!! PETEY: I feel like I somehow brought in my Metallica influence, perhaps because of my heavy Cliff Burton influence, but our music seems to be getting heavier and groovier at the same time. Obviously a great deal of that comes from Drew’s songwriting, but when the three of us come together we’ve just been totally kicking the crap out of our instruments. Jestyn: I listened to and was inspired a lot by Sebastion Thomson's work this last year - particularly his stuff with his electronic/live drums hybrid project, Publicist - I'm also really excited by and draw influence from the very cool stoner/fuzz-rock revolution going on in the music underground right now - bands like Dead Panda, Wizened Tree, Opium Warlock - and a TON of others brutal groove-heavy monsters. I'm always listening to Bonham, of course... Thank you for chatting with us! Do you have any announcements you'd like to share with us? We look forward to hearing new releases from you this year! Watch Rome Burn: We have live show dates booked throughout the Pacific Northwest through the first half of 2020 - look forward to seeing all of you in the Burn Legion there and rockin out together!! West Coast Regional Tour plans are in the works, too!! Her newest song “Soldier” brings attention to mental health issues and relatable life struggles. Selena intended to bring awareness to these topics that she is very passionate about. By including mental health struggles throughout the song Selena is not only bringing awareness to these very real issues, but she is representing the true growth that is possible in those circumstances. The uplifting melody will give listeners feelings of euphoria and hope... and make them want to dance. “Soldier” has a quick beat that develops up to an exciting drop as she continues to assert that she is a “fighting soldier.” Selena’s voice is modest during the description of mental health issues, then transitions into a confident and assured tone during the chorus, which gives the lyrics even more meaning. Although the song intended to give hope to individuals struggling with their mental health, “Soldier” can provide an optimistic point of view to those experiencing sort of adversity. Thank you so very much for this opportunity. My intention behind Soldier was to create a force of awareness around mental health. People struggle with different severities of mental health. My story and the lyrics of the song might help someone who may be suffering internally and feeling alone. We absolutely love the idea of knowing we are ‘fighting soldiers’ while overcoming adversity. Can you elaborate on the message of this song? The song is about my struggles with mental health. I want people to know that they’re not alone in what they face. That in the end, no matter what - they are a fighting soldier & they can overcome anything. We all have that internal power that can break through the chains of mental health. Most of your songs are relatively new, can you elaborate on how you began your journey as an artist? My journey as an artist began when I was 18. I worked with an international vocal coach who encouraged me to believe in myself and my dream of being an artist. She introduced me to the amazing team I work with today to create outstanding music I never get tired of listening too! Anything about the unknown can be frightening but always maintaining a positive mindset helps & works wonders. It's clear that you have a strong passion for music & songwriting. Who has been the most influential in your life musically thus far? The most influential in my life musically come from many genres of music. My songs and lyrics are mainly influenced by my life experience and my passion for music. Each of them has made me a better artist & shaped me into becoming the person I am today. I’m a lot more patient with the process & trusting that things will work in my favor. My most influential artists musically of this year would definitely have to be Billie Eilish, The Weeknd & 5 seconds of summer. In my newest music coming this year, there’s a little bit of everything other than just pop - that I hope reaches people in different ways. It was a pleasure to have you on BuzzMusic! Could you tell us more about your musical plans for the future? Thank you for having me! It's so wonderful working with you guys, you all are such beautiful souls.
