- Maro DēLo Is Swiftly Becoming a Household Name, Catch up With Him in Our BuzzMusic Exclusive
Manhattan-born and Philly raised singer/songwriter Maro DēLo pulls his passion for music from his classic rock and blues-infused upbringing. Maro’s diverse background gives a dynamic edge to his original pop-rock songs. Maro’s debut EP “Shades of Blue” was released last October and he hasn’t shown signs of slowing down since! It was no surprise that after the release of the EP Maro DēLo furthered his impressive following and fanbase. In June 2019, Maro DēLo released his first single of the year “Wake Up”, a stunning pop ballad with a real-life underlying story that remains close to the artist’s heart. After pairing up and writing with Shane Dodd, Maro DēLo was introduced to the notable producer Gary Miller (David Bowie, Elton John, Santana, George Michael, Hall & Oates, and Keb’ Mo’.) to solidify pro-management guidance. More recently Maro DēLo recently dropped “Hold U” this past September and we’re playing this tune on repeat! It’s such a pleasure to be chatting with you again. "Wake Up" is the perfect track to introduce new listeners to your sound in 2019. What made you choose this particular track to release following your debut EP? As an artist who falls under what some would call the “storyteller", I write about the moments that hit you like a ton of bricks; the ones that change evolve me as a person. Sharing these stories is not only a way of healing for me, but also gives the listener a chance to understand me beyond the music. Once someone puts on your song, they subconsciously decide how good of a narrator they think you are. Some feedback I’ve gotten on “Wake Up” from fans is that it’s a real heartfelt, up-close personal song. That’s exactly what I was hoping to achieve when I hit “upload.” “Shades of Blue” as a whole is extremely versatile and diverse! How long was this project in the making? The EP, my first, took 8 months to produce. During that time, I was in the process of establishing my genre and voice. I participated in a blues camp since I was 9 years old but was always a fan of Pop and Rock as well so it was intuitive for me to incorporate both genres. My producer, Jimi K. Bones, was instrumental (pun intended) in acknowledging my sound while at the same time incorporating musical elements and stories that relate to my experiences and generation. “Hold U” is a great new track but it seems to have a meaningful message behind the lyrics. Can you tell us more about this song? I guess you could say this is my version of John Mayer’s ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’ It’s about the first girl I dated in high school. I strove to incorporate the wide range of heady feelings that erupted in us from private, intimate romance to the high adrenaline rush of feeling on top of the world. That’s why it was so important to include a female voice in the song. It’s my celebration song of first true love and I knew I had to produce it now when all those memories were still fresh in my mind. My hope is that others can relate, whether you are young and experiencing it now or for those that are looking back and feeling nostalgic about their first love. Since you’ve been making music for a few years, how would you compare some of the earlier material you’ve written to what you’re currently working on? How have you honed your songwriting style over time, and what do you think are the main qualities that make a song truly connect and last in the long-run? The Shades of Blues EP was based on what I knew best at that juncture, Blues and Pop-Rock. During that period I learned so much from my producers, I also began ongoing voice coaching and as a result, my voice and sound evolved a lot during that period. In regard to honing my writing style, I am now working with another producer, Gary Miller. I am so grateful to work with him because simply put, he is a musical genius. He in turn was excited to collab with me to hone in on my songwriting style and true voice which I would now describe as Pop-Punk but my genre is Pop-Rock. We are currently making magic together and I can’t wait to release these songs. In regard to the qualities that make a song truly connect and last: It’s about creating storytelling music that connects deeply to the heart of the listener which is easier said than done. What would you say is the most useful piece of criticism you’ve received thus far within your career? Do you typically take criticism to your advantage? The most useful criticism was definitely that I needed vocal coaching. Through that coaching, I learned that my voice is an instrument and the magical element for me to connect with my audience. I’m am extremely passionate at heart and my voice is the most powerful vehicle to share and express that passion. In regard to taking criticism to my advantage: absolutely, particularly if it is coming from a person whose purpose is to help me succeed. When I receive criticism about my music in general, I am ok with it. Music is subjective, not everyone is going to love it and that’s ok. Thank you so much for chatting with us again! Do you prefer the more intimate recording process over live performance? How do you personally feel when you're performing your music live? If I had to decide between the two, I would choose live performance. Producing is a blast because it’s new and exciting, don’t get me wrong. But as soon as a track has been produced, mixed, and mastered, I feel REALLY excited when performing it live because it gives me the chance to play a show and tell with my latest creation. instagram.com/marodelomusic #BuzzMusic
- Laura Frank Makes Explosive Country Debut With “Things I’d Rather Do”
Teaming up with award-winning producer Jordan Power, Laura Frank is making her incredible country debut with her new single “Things I’d Rather Do”. With stunning folk/country vocals and a clear awareness of what works from a songwriting perspective, her music reaches out to connect with a broader audience. It effectively fuses hints of organic country with an honest sentiment and an overall engaging, enjoyable style. “Things I’d Rather Do” is all of this, a quickly familiar set-up paves the way well for a song that skillfully and poetically details the scenes of its story. Laura Frank has fused a brilliantly uplifting and progressive melody, with a warm and comforting musicality, and a story that seems just personal enough to connect, but also vague enough for listeners to make it their own. Laura Frank has taken the time to build something entirely unique, made up of individually crafted and captured moments of audio. Ultimately, the effect is a rightfully uplifting call to action, “Things I’d Rather Do” engages and embraces the listener, and inspires them to step forward. Within that though, there are so many details and indications of ability, that you’re left with an understanding of Laura Frank as a fully immersive and passionate composer and singer/songwriter. She plans to release more material before the end of 2019! Stay tuned! Check out “Things I’d Rather Do” here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Laura Frank! Great to be able to chat with you, thanks for the interview! What can you tell us about the overall concept of your debut single “Things I’d Rather Do”? Hey guys, thanks so much for having me! Things I'd Rather Do is a song basically about procrastination. There are so many times I find myself wanting to do something, getting out of bed for example, and 10 mins later I'm still in that exact same position looking at facebook, Instagram or stuck in the YouTube loop and so .... I wrote a song about it. It basically sheds a light on all of the things we miss out on because we spend so much time on our devices. I'm also a bit of a homebody, so there is an element of that in there as well. “Things I’d Rather Do” was an incredibly versatile and catchy track. Where did you draw the inspiration to create this particular type of sound? Thank you! My co-writer (and also partner) Nick Morrissey always helps me shape a song, but for this tune we had a really open mind about the sound when we went into the studio. It was the first time I had worked with Jordan Power (ARIA award winner) and I was super keen to see where his brain went with it. I knew I didn't want the sound to be totally 'country' sounding and I have many musical influences that use a range of different sounds in their tunes, ie. P!nk & Lady Gaga, so I guess it was a lovely mix of my influences and some super creative brains in the studio that shaped the sound. How would you say that “Things I’d Rather Do” compares to the kind of music you curated when you first started out as an artist?! Why did you decide to make the switch to country? Golly! It's quite different. My previous sound I was trying to find my feet and my place in the industry. This time, instead of searching for where I fit I decided to go with my gut and trust the team I have around me. It worked! The sound is much more 'whole' I think. It's so much fuller and I'm really happy with the direction it took. I think deep down I've always known I was destined to be a Country singer but for many years I tried to steer clear of it. Country music can have a stigma attached to it, you know? I want to break that..... I like to call myself an 'Alt Country' artist ..... So people don't automatically assume I'm singing about a truck, whiskey and how my husband left me. Do you prefer the more intimate recording process over live performance? How do you personally feel when you're performing your music live? Ohh that's a really tricky question. I love both aspects - it's the rehearsing that can get a bit tedious :-P Recording has always been one of my favourite parts of being a musician, hearing the tunes come to life. But I don't think anything can beat a crowd full of people enjoying your music. Most of the time, when performing, I'm either people watching, or having so much fun on stage I'm not thinking about anything else but how awesome it is! Like when you're on a roller coaster and all the thoughts disappear and it's just the adrenaline. I guess it depends on the gig, how my days been haha. But most of the time I'm trying to just be in the moment and savour the experience. You mentioned you’ll be releasing more this year! What can you tell us about your upcoming release? Yes! Well I can tell you that it will be out at the end of November and that it's totally different to 'Things I'd Rather Do'. The team and I had a plan to release a Double A Side before the tracks were recorded, but after we got the mixes back from the producer we decided that the songs needed their own time in the spotlight. They are really different from each other and I think that's part of the magic I'm making as 'Laura Frank'. Keep everyone guessing. It was great having you here on BuzzMusic! What’s next for you? I have a string of gigs coming up over December / January including some super cool support shows and a bit of a tour with some other amazing country musicians over here in Aus (which you can find all the details of on my Facebook page once they're released @laurafrankmusic). Until then, I'll be shooting a video for the next release and writing as much as I can so we can go back into the studio early next year! instagram.com/laurafrankmusic #BuzzMusic
- Love Ghost Release New Track and Visuals for “Let It All Burn”
Love Ghost is a Los Angeles based rock band who is killing it right now! It doesn’t get any better than a group of badass creatives who knows how to fuse together a unique sound and vision to deliver their listeners and fans the most immaculate music possible. This greatness was highly noticeable in their newest release titled “Let It All Burn”. Not only was the music itself a reflection of how extravagant this band is, but their video released to this song also kept us highly attentive to every element about it. We thoroughly enjoyed how they kept this grunge aesthetic that obviously correlates with their sound while giving us detailed images of fire and gritty ashes to complement the scorchingly electrifying title. What’s so amazing about this video was how it comes from a place of meaning. The visual and song itself was actually inspired by the band’s own personal experience that helped them cultivate the visual to its fullest extent. “Let It All Burn” is how I see the world through my 18-year-old eyes. The hypocrisy and unwanted advice that weighed me down during my senior year led to this song. My Dad being diagnosed with stage 3 cancer made me more determined- “fuck what they say, I make my own way”. Love Ghost's way of showing vulnerability through a raw and authentic music video and passionate melodies made us love this band more than we did prior. It’s like, what can Love Ghost do wrong? It seems absolutely inevitable for this band to succeed at this point! Listen to "Let It All Burn" here. Welcome to Buzzmusic Love Ghost! We’re very excited to have you on our platform. Talk to us more about this hot new record you have out, “Let It All Burn”. Were the arrangements and sound inspired by any of your personal musical influences in any sort? If so who and why? The song just came about from a random jam in band practice. It started out with a guitar riff from Finnegan, then Samson came in with a drum idea, and finally, Ryan joined with the bass. It was later refined, and lyrics added by Finnegan in producer Danny Saber’s garage. Ultimately, I guess you could say, it was inspired by bands such as The Growlers and the Cramps. Knowing the song came from a personal experience of yours, was it at all challenging opening up that place of emotions for this record? Yeah, if I’m being honest, I’m a total introvert and painfully shy in real life. However, when it comes to songwriting, I can leave my heart on the table for all to see. In what ways were you hoping for the video to translate to your viewers? What kind of obstacles did you face in the creation process? This video is filled with molten lava, fire, and metal flinging from the ceiling! What is better than that much chaos? I hope everyone is as excited to see it as we were to make it! You did a smashing job and should be highly proud of yourselves for the turn out of this song. In what ways do you think this song helps the listeners get a more understanding of your band and artistry as a whole? I think it is going to show the world a new side of us that’s really explosive, and we feel, more complete. This song and the ones we have upcoming are a fully-realized sound that we are very proud of. Can you hint to our readers any exciting upcoming live shows that may be occurring soon that we should be aware of? Yes! We have a show on November 27that The Troubadour (we go on at 11 Pm)! On December 17th we are going to play the annual surge holiday event party at the Virgil! We also have some very exciting news for 2020 that we will be announcing soon. Thank you for sharing your music with us Love Ghost! As 2019 is coming to a close, reflecting on this past year, what’s the biggest lesson you learned through your music and about yourself that would benefit your career in the upcoming year? Each one of the core members of Love Ghost has faced some very difficult moments these past 5 months. Our music has saved us. We have matured as a band, our sound is more realized, these new songs reflect our growth and we have been on our hustle looking forward to these next few months and definitely 2020! instagram.com/loveghost_officialt twitter.com/LoveGhost_ facebook.com/loveghost.official #BuzzMusic
- Groove Along to “Holding Back” by the North and Wells Band
The North and Wells Band is a 4-piece band comprised of four friends, who met while working nightshift at The Second City in Chicago. The Second City is located at the corner of North and Wells, and so The North and Wells were born. Although the group remains free from being pigeon-holed to a specific genre, they bring forth an original blend of soul, blues, and modern rock. Their new single “Holding Back” is out now and available on all major streaming platforms! What’s great about “Holding Back” is that every section is worthy of being a hook. Where the average song would offer a minimal verse and a perhaps simple, logical pre-chorus as a pathway to the big moment, this song utilizes every second to draw your interest and keep you entertained. The melodic changes start to happen fairly early on, so although it’s easy to vibe to “Holding Back” from the offset, there’s also plenty that works hard to remind you to really pay attention and to appreciate the creativity and the honest expression. The North and Wells offer a somewhat carefree approach to musicianship, though this contrasts slightly with the depth of thought and the concerns expressed within the lyrics of “Holding Back”. The track sounds great, easy to listen to on repeat and a part of that is because of how uniquely structured the whole thing is. When you really listen though, there’s plenty of youthful turmoil being presented, the mind has wandered freely and the songwriter has documented that journey. We’re looking forward to hearing more! Listen to “Holding Back” here Welcome to BuzzMusic The North and Wells Band! It’s such a pleasure to be chatting with you. We know how you all met but how did each of you get started on your own musical journey, before The North and Wells Band? We've all had some pretty different stories getting to where we are now as a group. John (keys) came from a very musical family that inspired him to start learning piano and taking voice lessons. He had a great friend and mentor who really got him excited to play music by playing gigs starting in high school. Much love to KB! Also, his parents got him listening to great music when he was growing up (Beatles, Rush, Styx, Ben Folds). He is self-taught and plays by ear. Jakes (guitar) music background stems from growing up in Chicago playing blues with his father's band and eventually going on the road at 19 playing blues in Mississippi and the general south for a few years. 12:12 (lead singer) has found himself singing in churches from the south side of Chicago to churches in Georgia growing up. Sam Roth (drums) has been keeping time way before The North And Wells Band. He started drum lessons when he was 5. While making full-length documentaries he studied and played in the marching band at Mizzou. You seem to be a band that puts a substantial amount of thought into your lyrics! Who/what has inspired each of you to be the artist you are today? We do put a lot of thought into the lyrics, thank you! Daily life. Just like stuff everybody is going through. We like to think of ourselves as a "band of the people" if you will. We want our lyrics to be something everyone can relate to. We each have our own lyrical influences. Jake shows more of a bluesy, Bob Dylan/Paul Simon style. 12:12 says his biggest inspiration lyrically is Ms. Lauryn Hill/Marvin Gaye. John really relates to Joey Dosik/Paul McCartney. McCartney is like one of the best storytellers ever. "Holding Back" seems like a pretty personal track. Is vulnerability something your fans can always expect from your music? Can you tell us more about this particular song? We're a pretty open book. "Holding Back" is just kinda scratching the surface in terms of vulnerability. Jake wrote it as a poem and it fit the groove pretty well so we ran with it. We have a bunch of songs in the chamber that really dive into some personal experiences that we are dying to get out to the public as soon as we can. But looking back at like Chicago Summertime, it's a song about wanting to be falling into true love, but not sure if you'll ever get it because of the circumstances of our particular generation. So yeah, we'll be vulnerable. Music is one of the best ways to express emotions and feelings. How have you honed your songwriting style over time, and what do you think are the main qualities that make a song truly connect and last in the long-run? To cut you in on a little secret, a lot of our lyrics have stemmed from us playing a groove and 12:12 totally freestyling on top of whatever we are playing. Sure there are certain formulas to good songwriting, but we haven't been a band long enough to truly hone our group writing skills together. Individually, we all have our own backgrounds. Someone will bring a song to the group and we each have input on how to make it resonate with people who listen to our music. Also, people love stories. If you can tell a cool story and throw some musical instruments on top of it, it's likely to be remembered and listened to for a while. Thank you for taking the time to talk to us! What’s next for you after the release of “Holding Back”? We are currently in the studio working with a producer, Chris Steinmetz, on future projects. You can definitely expect a lot in store for 2020. Live shows. More music. Most likely a few new singles in the next couple of months! But definitely enjoy "Holding Back" until then! Thanks for helping us get our name out there! We really appreciate BuzzMusic! instagram.com/northandwellsband facebook.com/thenorthandwellsband #BuzzMusic
- Three-Piece British Pop-Rock Boundless Brothers Release Their New EP “Even for a Moment”
Boundless Brothers are a three-piece British pop-rock band becoming extremely well-known for their impressive lyricism, contemporary melodies, and stunning harmonies. There’s nothing but magic in the air when Sam, Seb, and Bo play live. Boundless Brothers have an impressive musical repertoire and list of accomplishments a mile long including playing live shows everywhere from Oceanfest, Looe Music Festival and Shrewsbury Festival to Cambridge Folk Festival, Clarence Park Festival and Port Eliot. This year, the trio released their diverse 5-track EP titled “Cause and Effect”. The first single released from the EP was “Only Love”, followed up by “Give a Little Love”, the band’s most contemporary song on the project. “Give A Little Love” also comes equipped with a spectacular music video. It captures a live performance set up on the beach and showcases the band undeniable chemistry. The main theme of the EP is the ups and downs of love and how it can sometimes make you feel both great and terrible in equal measure. Also featured on the EP is the emotional ballad, “Even for a Moment”, truly proving Boundless Brothers’ versatility and promising to make their audience shed a tear or two when they hear the vocal harmonies performed live. Absolutely worth a listen! Listen to “Cause and Effect” here. Welcome back to BuzzMusic! Congratulations on the success of your EP “Cause and Effect”! How long was this project in the works? We have been working on this project on and off for the past 2 years, so it's been a while in the making. We started recording with a good friend of ours named Adam Floyd and slowly finished it off ourselves, at our home studio. We then sent it back to Adam when it was done, to do the final mastering. We are so happy with the end result and have had great feedback so far! We’re so happy to see 3 more brand new tracks included on this release, which song from your EP would you say BEST describes your musical approach? The title track 'Cause and effect' is the track that would describe our musical approach best, as we really tried to focus on the lyrics and harmonies throughout the song, which is something we like to put as the main focus of any of our musical arrangements. This song also gave us the chance to work on the production side of recording in a way that we haven't managed to do in previous recording. We had a lot of fun layering electric guitars and violins to get a sound that we were really pleased with. “Give a Little Love” is one of our absolute favorites! Equipped with upbeat energy, the lyrics seem to hold a deeper meaning. Can you tell our readers about the inspiration behind this track? The inspiration for 'Give a little love' came from a feeling that I think most people have, the feeling that you aren't really getting what you want from life and the desire to make a change and better yourself and help those closest to you. “Even for a Moment” really introduces your listeners to a versatile side of Boundless Brothers that we’ve never seen before! Do you feel like it’s important to remain versatile in your music? What can you tell us about this song? We think that it's extremely important to remain versatile in your music, both for the people who are listening to your music and for yourselves. As a band we have a really varied taste in music, which I think comes across in our songs, as they don't tend to fit into one genre or sound. This helps keep us excited and challenged whenever we get a new song in. Even for a moment was one of these songs that we had never tried to do before, so it was a real challenge to work out how best to record it and fit it in with the other songs. It was also the song we spent the most time recording and arranging and is possibly the one we are most proud of, but we don't like to pick favourites aha. The music video for “Give a Little Love” is incredible! What do you hope your listeners take away from it? For the music video for 'Give a little love' we really tried to show that no matter how you are feeling, there are always people around that want to support you. We were lucky enough to get a bunch of our family/friends and amazing fans of ours to make an appearance in the video to try and get this message of togetherness across, which ended up as a massive jam session and a video that we are really happy with. Thank you so much for chatting with us once again! What's next for Boundless Brothers? Do you have any parting words or announcements for the BuzzMusic community? Thank you for taking the time to chat to us, we are currently booking up our tour dates for 2020, which is going great so far! Also, we have just started work on some new music, which we will hope to have ready for next year! We really hope anyone who has listened enjoys our music and we hope to bring you more very soon. instagram.com/boundless_brothers twitter.com/Boundless_Bros #BuzzMusic
- New Track: Elben Comes out with a Fresh New Single "YDKWYDK"
This next artist is from Orange County, CA, and has a unique spin on indie-pop. Elben creates a softer house/indie/pop sound that had piqued our interest. Elben explores a variety of real hardships, and the journey that comes along with them, all while maintaining that captivating beat that can hold your attention with absolute interest. His latest track, "YDKWYDK" showcases the story and contrasting emotions of heartbreak, making for an interesting release. We're stoked to get the BuzzMusic community in on the workings of Elben, as the amicable ambiance set by his tracks will have the indie/pop community hooked! Funky, collective, and fun comes with Elben's latest track "YDKWYDK". The track opens up with a smooth house beat, which will capture and enhance your attention. Then, Elben's light-paced vocals blends into the song, encapsulating that fun-loving indie/pop sound. "YDKWYDK" makes you feel rejuvenated with its atmospheric vibe, and personally had us feeling entranced at an entirely new level. Elben is a young singer/songwriter, who is looking to make a serious impact with his tracks. The way he's putting out his curations now shows that he's completely on track with that goal! The production is spot on. You will probably find that it hits a certain part of you that sparks a light. It's that kind of airy sound that has you feeling filled with inspiration. The vocalism is evolving, and Elben consistently proves his ability to create genuine music that has the ability to transcend. We're very interested to see how he continues to elevate his sound. Listen to Elben's "YDKWYDK" on Spotify here Hey there Elben! Thanks for talking with us here at BuzzMusic! Are you able to open up more on the creative aspects that go into the songwriting side of your music? Of course, it’s my pleasure! And sure! I took a break from creating anything for a few years for a variety of reasons, most of which I feel were non-valid in hindsight, but the past is the past and I’m back! I feel like this process has been much different from what I did before. A little more calculated and a little more rigorous of a “vetting” process of what made the cut creatively and what didn’t. I used to write my music and lyrics by pure feel before, which wasn’t bad, but to me wasn’t my best work and my music ended up sounding like a mish-mash of “confused” ideas. Whereas now I’m still chasing that feeling and that vibe but everything is intentional and focused and nothing flew unless we really felt like it could resonate well with whoever is listening. I say we because one of my best friends, Matt Lang, helped me produce and write all of my latest works, and my dude was a harsher critic than I could be for myself, lol, which I greatly appreciate because I love what we created. What was the most integral element to "YDKWYDK" that you felt elevated the track from previous ones you've curated? Of the songs that I recorded this year this one had the clearest direction from the get-go. I wanted “happy” sounding production with contrasting “dark” lyrics. Earlier this year a handful of artists released that kind of vibe and I was so drawn to it. Cuz I mean that’s life right? Everything is falling apart but you have to keep this happy face on and walk through that storm. Are you able to elaborate on your creative process in general, and where you stem your inspiration from? Is it primarily from your own intimate life, or does it transcend into other perspectives? The process has evolved now that I’m a little older. When I was younger, inspiration would strike, and I had close to no responsibilities so I would just chase those ghosts to the end of the earth. I don’t have that luxury anymore and I’m STOKED when I have that opportunity to do what I just mentioned above. But these days I’d say 90% of the time I’m setting time aside whether I’m inspired or not and make things happen. It’s better I think. Imagine if you had fitness goals and only went to the gym when inspiration struck. I don’t think that’d work out too well for many people, haha. My lyrical/musical inspiration comes from a variety of sources these days. I feel like pulling from only your intimate life the well only runs so deep. If you can pull inspiration from other things… television, art, other musicians, etc. you know have an ocean of ideas that you can interweave into your story. But it’s funny, I have all these people DM-ing me about my recent songs, being like “OMG, is this really what’s happening?” Short answer.. yes and no, hah. Are you planning on having any shows in the near future to promote "YDKWYDK"?! What's the overall atmosphere at one of your shows? I’m looking into booking some things in the near future, but right now I’m just focused on getting my new songs out into the world. I actually have not played a show as “Elben” yet. But if I were to put a word on any performances I’ve had in the past… catharsis. People have told me before that I have intense energy, and that my mood can be felt when I walk into a room, hah. I like to think that intense cathartic energy transcends into everyone in the room during my live shows. Is the plan to continue creating and releasing music? What's the next set goal for yourself and your artistry within the next year? Yes. I haven’t felt the momentum I’m feeling right now in at least 7 years so I’m riding this wave all the way to shore and paddling back out for more! I plan to continue releasing songs regularly for at least the next few years. If we’re thinking November next year I’d love to have 10+ songs out by that time. Artistically the goal is to one-up myself with each song I write and produce. Even with the releases I have out now, I’ve already thought up of how I could have done things better with them, why certain ones are “succeeding” more than the others, etc. So you can say I’m a bit competitive, and right now my competition is myself :) instagram.com/elbencapule twitter.com/elbencapule facebook.com/elbencapule Snapchat: @amnesiabeach #BuzzMusic

Jane N’ The Jungle blends 90’s alt-rock and modern rock and fuses it with gritty, powerful lead vocals, creating their unique sound. Jane N’ The Jungle has had an impressive year, to say the least. What does it mean to you to have it released to the public? Thank you for having us back!! We spent almost 2-year making "Concrete Jungle." It was important to us to take our time and create a memorable experience while making the record. We started the initial tracking in Santa Monica, CA at "4th Street Recording" in January 2017, with the goal of recording a few singles. We had the time of our lives recording in the studio! After we traveled home to Phoenix we realized we had more to say and wanted to embark on a full-length record. A few months later we recorded a few more songs off the record in Chicago, IL at Gravity Studios. We finished the record in Phoenix, AZ at Cory Spotts studio. "Concrete Jungle" is a concept record with ebbs and flows highlighting the decline and regrowth as a band and personally through my own experiences. We are so excited to finally share the record and are overjoyed from all the positive responses. The release has created a new chapter for the band and our music and can't wait for what's next! The music video for “Tonight” is incredible! It gives the essence of a live performance with more depth. What was the overall concept for this video? Thank you! We wanted to create a video that showcased our energy and vibe that we have while performing, giving the audience an experience of a "Jane N' The Jungle" show. We felt the black and white treatment helped heighten the emotion. We were absolutely captivated by your vocals on this project as usual! Can you dive into the meaning of the lyrics within “Tonight”? "Tonight" is about trying desperately to fit into a mold of what "you think you need to be" in relationships and life. I find fascination in desperation and I really wanted to go to that space as an artist which I think I only touched the surface on. I think it stems from my type A personality and how I try so hard to be perfect and to make things work out even if it's wrong for me. The song is about being trapped in "the want" and desperation which clouds irrationality. Did your initial vision for the album “Concrete Jungle” end up executing as you thought it would? I never had a vision of what I thought it would be. The conception was an organically creative project that continued to flow to the end. The process kept things exciting and fun without ever having any expectations, there for the record indeed exceeded all my expectations. I am very happy and thankful for how it turned out. Since you’ve been making music for several years, how would you compare some of the earlier material you’ve written to your newest release? We set a new bar for ourselves with this record, and hard to compare it to the past material. "Concrete Jungle" is our first full-length record and is just the beginning into to our recording careers. Thank you so much for talking to us once again! What can fans expect from a live show from Jane N’ The Jungle? Thank for all the love and support you have for our music!! The "Tonight" music video will give a good insight of what the energy and vibe is like at one of our shows! Our shows are passionate, emotional and raw. We really take pride into our live performances and appreciate everyone who believes in rock music and keeping live music alive, thank you! instagram.com/janenthejungle #BuzzMusic
- Illicit Blends Punk-Rock With Songwriting Capabilities in Their Newest Releases
Illicit is a rock band from Kitchener, Ontario. The band was started by lead vocalist Jordan Cantwell and drummer/vocalist Fadi Khoshaba in February 2017. Guitarist Zak Taylor and bassist Dan Martin later joined the group after replying to an online ad. With the addition of third guitarist Jason Mcdonald, the 5-piece was able to establish their authentic sound. The rock collective Illicit has released 2 brand new singles this year that have garnered the group much attention across their hometown and beyond. “Summer’s Fleeting” and “Riptide” featured the musicality that the group is best known for, leaving their listeners headbanging all night long. Fusing the better parts of their punk-rock approach with infectious melodies, stunning musicality, a contagious level of energy and a superbly detailed soundscape, their most recent singles rightfully showcases Illicit as the unstoppable force that they are. Currently, the 5-piece is hard at work in the studio preparing their next EP, set for release in the new year. In the meantime we highly recommend you check out “Summer’s Fleeting” and “Riptide”, as well as the music video for the title track of Illicit’s debut EP “Lost Days”. Stay tuned for more! Listen to Illicit’s new music here. For those who aren’t aware, how did you first get into music production and composition, and how would you describe your approach to making original music? Dan (Bassist): I first got into music as a kid when I was given a guitar for my birthday and began taking lessons. It wasn’t until I joined my first band that I was exposed to music production and fell in love with making original music and putting it out there. The approach we have to making original music is very much experimentation. Someone comes with a riff or melody they like and every one builds on to it making a full song Zak (Lead Guitar): For me, it started back in high school. I had been playing guitar for a couple of years and wanted to start making music instead of just playing/learning other's songs. In every case, we would let each respective member create their own part. Jordan will create the framework of the song and the main guitar/vocal parts. He ends up recording and sending us a demo of the song. For leads, I try to write something that compliments the vocals. Jordan (Lead Vocalist): I first got into music mostly from Guitar Hero and it was really the first time I was exposed to rock music. The songs and bands that I heard on Guitar Hero were the songs and bands that I would check out. My approach to creating original music is to take elements of all the different songs and styles I'm listening to and putting it together. Making it something of my own while still being influenced by the different artists. As long as the tune feels right, then that is all that matters. Fadi (Drummer): Back in 2008, I was introduced to a video game called RockBand 2. As I am a huge nerd, I fell in love with the game. After 3 years of playing drums on expert difficulty, I entered high school and immediately signed up for 4 years of music class. My approach to making original music is to write and track drum parts to fit the song, not to show off my chops. We're completely captivated yet again by “Summer’s Fleeting”, you all have such strong chemistry throughout your tracks. Can you tell us more about your intentions when you first began to curate this single? Dan (Bassist): I feel like the intention with Summer’s Fleeting was to make a song that sounded so much bigger than any of our other songs. The bridge is so much slower so that the final chorus has a huge payoff and power. Jordan (Lead Vocalist): There weren't any clear intentions with Summer's Fleeting from the get-go, however, the intentions became clearer during the recording process. This was a song that started from a riff I had in my head since high school, I showed it to everyone at practice one day and we just started riffing ideas back and forth. I wanted the lyrics to be a little more personal and honest than anything else we've written before it. Fadi (Drummer): We took a different approach to writing Summer's Fleeting. We really wanted to feel out different avenues when it came to making the song sound big. Especially with vocals. Backing tracks, samples, lower octave melody over-top the main melody, attractive leads, etc. Summer's Fleeting was definitely a stepping stone for us song writing-wise. We also thoroughly enjoyed “Riptide”! Where did you draw inspiration for this particular track and experimental new sound? Dan (Bassist): The inspiration behind Riptide was to have more of a bouncy pop-punk kind of song. We don’t like having one particular sound so this was to continue that trend. Jordan (Lead Vocalist): For me, Riptide was inspired by two records. The last 'Paramore' record (After Laughter) and the most recent 'The Story So Far' record (Proper Dose). We wanted Riptide to be heavy but poppy, and I went with a different approach for the vocals. Just to keep it fresh. We know that you're a lover of integrating a variety of elements in your music. Would you ever incorporate contrasting genres into your music, or do you think it would ruin the type of sound you're attempting to reach? Dan (Bassist): I think our sound will organically change as time goes on. It might incorporate contrasting styles at some point, but it would be with our own twist to give it an “Illicit” sound. Music as a whole is very malleable which leaves a lot of room to adapt, change, and experiment. Jordan (Lead Vocalist): Adding different types of elements to our music is something I love doing. The more and more I write, the more interested I am infusing different sounds and genres. I love it when I hear records that will keep me guessing until the very end. I also love hearing how different a band can sound from one record to another. It really helps you appreciate each record. Fadi (Drummer): We have been in the studio recording out next E.P. and we have been messing around with more and more of that. Integrating different styles, different elements, and all-around different vibes to our songs. An example of what we've been messing around with is adding 808s in a song that could use a bit of a modern twist to songwriting in a 5-piece band. It's exciting, it's refreshing, and it's what keeps us itching to write more music. What would you say inspires you and your music the most? Dan (Bassist): What inspires us and our music the most is our individualism. We all have very different lives, but “Illicit” connects us and brings out the best in us. We bring our tastes, thoughts, and feelings to our music and put it out into the world. Jordan (Lead Vocalist): I love exploring whats out there. Listening to different music from different bands. It's a great way to inspire you to write more music. It's because of that that I always kinda feel like I'm working on songs. When I'm not working on them physically, I'm playing them over in my head, arranging them. There's a lot going on up there. It was great having you here on BuzzMusic! Tell us more about your upcoming EP! How long has this project been in the works? Dan (Bassist): This E.P. is going to be something to really look forward to. It’s been almost a year in the making and we are loving the sound of it. It’s going to hit harder and pump you up more than anything else we’ve released yet. Jordan (Lead Vocalist): As far as how long the E.P. has been in the works, its been a few months already. The recording sessions have been spread out due to playing shows in between and our lives outside of the band, but it's progressing. As we're almost 75% of the way done, we can confidently say the E.P. will be a lot more cohesive compared to the first one we released. This E.P. is going to have all different types of songs. Fast, slow, heavy, soft, poppy, chuggy, basically showcasing what we can do. It's going to be SICK! Zak (Lead Guitarist): The EP has been in the works for a while now. It will have a similar sound to both Riptide and Summers Fleeting with surprisingly heavy songs and thrown into the mix as well. From all of us at ILLICIT, we really appreciate you taking the time to ask us these questions. We'd like to thank you for continuing to help us shed light on our music and our band, and we hope these questions exceeded your expectations. instagram.com/illicitbandcanada #BuzzMusic

I mean, who doesn’t like being one of the original fans? Listen to Silver Storm here and get to know more about Tenna below! Welcome back to BuzzMusic Tenna! How has performing at charity and school events helped prepare you for big stages and shows? Hey BuzzMusic! Thanks for having me again. Performing at school events definitely showed me all that can go wrong in terms of technical difficulties so I've learned that soundcheck is extremely important no matter the size of the venue. Technical difficulties happen to everyone, but it's better to be as prepared as you can be! I feel like the most important thing about performing though is definitely always going back into that time in your life and really channeling those emotions. I'm really passionate about singing so no matter the size of the venue or show, I feel like I'll always be emotional on stage. For you as an artist, what is your favorite part about performing and why? My favourite part about performing is definitely the feeling I get when I sing. I'm a very emotional person so I really enjoy being able to channel that into my singing. Since I was little, singing just made me feel so much and when I sing into a microphone this feeling is amplified. It's amazing to be able to perform my original songs for people. It almost feels surreal when you show the world something so personal. We hear you are working on a complete album! How exciting that is. Can you hint to our readers what we may expect out of this? I'm beyond excited for my new project. This next album will represent my sound that I'm going for as an artist. It'll still be pop music, but I want this album to sound raw and original. I feel like this album is going to be completely authentic and emotional, and just very me. I can't wait to get back in the studio! What has been the most challenging aspect transitioning from an EP to an album and how do you overcome the challenge? Honestly, I think the challenge is really finding your sound as an artist, but I think it's a gradual process. I feel like I know who I am in terms of writing and singing, however, my sound is what I'm always working on discovering. Otherwise, I actually prefer releasing more music because I have a lot of different things I want to say and I don't like to limit myself to only a few songs. Are there any specific arrangements from “Silver Storm” that we can expect in the new album? There is a possibility of one or two songs from the EP being released as acoustic versions, but these will be separate from the new album. I feel like "Silver Storm" is one chapter of my life and the next album will be the next chapter. What’s next for Tenna in 2020? We know you are bound to do amazing things! My music video for "Why Didn't You?" will be released early next year, which I am so excited for. I can't wait for everyone to see this one. I have a great team I'm going to be working with and the message behind this video is super important. Also, this video is less of a performance video and more artistic so I'm really happy about that. I'm also going to be coming out with an album and doing some live shows where I'll probably be performing my EP and some of my new material as well. instagram.com/tennasmusic #BuzzMusic

Welcome back to BuzzMusic Raisinbran! It’s such a pleasure to be chatting with you again. You seem to be an artist that puts a substantial amount of thought into your lyrics! Who/what has inspired you to be the artist you are today? I’m glad you noticed that! Lyrics are one of the most important aspects to a song in my opinion. I would say that my old self has been a huge inspiration for me. The old Raisinbran was so lost in the temporary pleasures this world has to offer. Today I feel like Raisinbran 2.0 and after all the pain I caused by dwelling in selfish actions I have learned so much. It’s so cool to be inspired by mistakes I’ve made in the past because it creates growth in my music. I am also very inspired these days by Tyler The Creators newest album “IGOR”. When I heard that he produced every song on that album I immediately began researching and experimenting with making my own beats and sounds. It’s been so rewarding to learn how to get all of these sounds stuck in my head out onto the digital canvas of music. "Dusty" is an energizing and refreshing song. Where did you draw inspiration for this particular track? I drew inspiration for this song from the verse Genesis 2:7 “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” When I read this I immediately recognized how insignificant we are compared to God. It’s crazy how we are created from something so irrelevant yet God loves us unconditionally. I wanted to make a song that gives people hope for death. We were made from dust and when we die we return to the dust and into the arms of our creator to spend eternity in paradise if we believe in him. “Memories” seems like a deeply personal track. Is vulnerability something your fans can always expect from your music? Can you tell us more about this particular song? This song is so special to me. I was away at college and I was feeling so lonely and just missing my childhood. When I dove into those feelings I felt nostalgic but also thankful. I went through so much during my process of becoming a man such as suicide attempts, drug addiction, depression, and various illnesses that I still struggle to battle against today but I have gotten so far. In this song I talk about burning down the hanging rope (leaving my suicidal thoughts behind) and how I’m grateful for the trials that made me who I am today. At the end of the song I say how I miss my old life but this new one is alright. It means that I miss my childish ways but I don’t miss the struggles that came with it. I realize the life I have right now is not to shabby when I look deeper into the nostalgia. We know that you're a lover of integrating a variety of elements in your music. Would you ever incorporate contrasting genres into your music, or do you think it would ruin the type of sound you're attempting to reach? I absolutely love experimenting with different ideas and I think if executed well contrasting genres can be really interesting. I am currently working on a project that is fully produced, written, and arranged by myself and I am integrating many different instruments into it. I have used lots of African and Native American instruments so far and I think this project will potentially show a new side of combining genres. How have you honed your songwriting style over time, and what do you think are the main qualities that make a song truly connect and last in the long-run? Over time I have been trying to make my songwriting style deeper and a little less obvious in the verse and more simplified and easy to understand for the chorus. I think these qualities connect to my fans because some people like to just hear a song and others like to listen to a song. Thank you so much for chatting with us. What can you tell us about your brand new release “The Silver Donkey”? Thank you so much for having me! This song is about my car... sort of. The title of this song is kind of funny because I call my car The Silver Donkey. It's so slow and just has the overall presence of a donkey, but it gets me where I need to go! This song is about pushing through the hard times and focusing on the destination. Life can be difficult and we can’t tell what the future holds but God has a plan for us and we just have to stay on the right path. This song also symbolizes a road trip for myself as an artist. I will be gone for a while but I’m coming back soon with something new :) instagram.com/chronicraisinbran #BuzzMusic
