  • Exclusive Interview With Canadian Songstress Tenna!

Welcome Tenna to Buzzmusic! In what ways has your experience performing in talent competitions and open mics during your upbringing helped shaped you into the artist you are today? Thanks for having me Buzz! I think performing has definitely allowed me to share my music with others, which is really important to me. I feel that performing really allows me to share not only my music, but also my emotions and passion with the audience. I think passion and feeling are everything when it comes to music. Even before I started performing my original music, I still felt connected to everything I would perform because I chose songs that made me truly feel something and I think that made the audience feel something as well. What was the most challenging aspect in writing your upcoming EP and how were you able to overcome this obstacle? I think the most challenging part was writing the song "Why Didn't You?" which I wrote about sexual assault and victim blaming. Of course this topic is very hard to discuss, but I think think it's very important to raise awareness. I also think this song was the hardest to write because I wanted to draw attention to the fact that victims are often, if not almost always, blamed in these situations. People often comment on what the victim was wearing or whether the victim fought back. People seem to be asking the wrong questions and are ignoring the real issue at hand, which is the perpetrator's actions. When I wrote the song, I found it very hard to show it to people at first, but I'm really happy with it and I can't wait to release it! Let's talk about your upcoming release "Skies". What can the listeners expect from the production portion of the song? The production in "Skies" has a beachy and very romantic feel to it. We decided not to use as many drums in the song to not take away from the feeling of the song. A lot of elements in the song emphasized the vocal, which is exactly what I wanted. What truly inspired you to write "Skies" and in what ways were you able to personally relate? The inspiration for "Skies" came from a long distance relationship. It is about how even when we know something isn't as good as it seems or isn't working, we still try and make it work. Also, I believe that a lot of people try and blame the problems in a relationship on distance when it's really just a distraction from the real problems. At the end of the day if a relationship is right, no amount of distance can change that. If the person is your person, then that's it. What's the next step for you Tenna? I am currently working on new music and my music video for "Why Didn't You?" which will be released late October/early November. My whole EP will be out in October, which I'm really excited for. I can't wait for everyone to hear the music. Check out Tenna's brand new song "Skies" here! • Canadian Artist Aman Dhesi Inspires With Debut EP “Day One”

From an early age, Aman Dhesi knew that singing and song-writing was in his DNA. By his early twenties he knew that pursuing music was his passion. As he refined his singing voice, Aman developed his song-writing abilities leading to live performances in numerous venues across his hometown of Vancouver, Canada. After relocating to Toronto in 2013, Aman became a finalist in a televised singing competition, received praise for his song-writing abilities and performed at World Pride in 2014. Fresh off the release of his debut EP “Day One”, Aman’s hope is that people get inspired listening to his music to take charge of their own lives and to shift their thinking from “maybe one day….” to “this is my day one.” The EP “Day One” begins with an addicting and groovy pop track titled “This Ride”. It leads with a bright melody and a string of uplifting, comforting lyrics. The music is similarly hopeful, colorful and soothing. Everything feels very empowering and inspiring, letting the concept slowly but surely sink in for the long term. Keeping things eclectic and interesting, “No Time” offers the same clear characteristics that make up Aman’s sound and style. The positivity, the sense of empowerment and possibility, but there’s an upbeat groove now that feels a little like a contemporary pop-meets-80’s kind of vibe. Aman’s hopeful glow is infectious and lifts you up consistently throughout this project. “Another Never Ever” lets you get a little closer to Aman through a personal declaration of difficulty. The honest approach and hard-hitting sound fuse well to give off a sense of realness that’s easy to connect with at this point within the EP. The second half of the song feels more like an overcoming, and what you ultimately takeaway is that it’s ok to have those struggles! This is a definite highlight and a personal favorite from the collection. “Rise Up” picks up the pace and offers an energizing rhythm and a fairly organic set-up that feels like a live performance. There’s an immediately catchy aura to this song and you can tell that a live performance would bring a moment of real brightness and togetherness. The EP comes to a close with the distinctive anthem-like tones of title track “Day One”. Progressing upward from a simple, rhythmic and immediately memorable hook, the track slowly gathers momentum. It’s weight and color rise and multiply as things pour through. There’s a huge feeling of vulnerability and realness throughout this song. The concept of this track is to let go of the past and start your life with “Day One”, forgetting all your worries about “ maybe one day”. There’s plenty of room in modern music for songwriters who put so much of themselves into their work and who manage to maintain a clear and likable thread of individuality at the same time. The EP “Day One” is a joy to listen to in full, I highly recommend you give it a listen and stay on the lookout for Aman! Listen to “Day One” here and read more with Aman Dhesi below! Hi Aman! What can you tell us about your EP “Day One”? How did it come to be, and what does it mean to you? “Day One” is the end point of a decade-long journey in discovering, fine-tuning and honing my artistic voice. Since 2009 I have been performing, collaborating with like-minded artists and working on developing myself as a singer/songwriter to release a body of work that reflects who I am as a musical artist. Artistically, “Day One” is a record that reflects the inevitability of transition and change and that moment where you step into a space to get yourself to where you need to go. Everyone has that moment where they need to evolve, upgrade or move into a new place in their lives and that all starts with “Day One”. Personally this record chronicles a transitional period in my own life where I captured many of these experiences on this record and how it led me to own breakthrough “Day One”. Your voice is stunning on this release! How have you honed your ability over time? Practice. Persistence. Patience. For any vocalist, ongoing maintenance of your instrument is a must and I was fortunate to work with an excellent voice coach who really helped me to come into my own as a singer. I learned how to express and embody the character behind the lyrics of each track and deliver vocals with confidence. I also think it is very important to recognize that the ability to sing is within anyone’s reach. We often shut ourselves down from singing because we are not born with an innate ability (not many people are!) but it is something that can be developed, nurtured and fine-tuned through consistent practice and dedication. Do you think it’s easier to sing well when the song means so much to you personally? Absolutely. Having an emotional connection to the lyrics takes the song to a whole other level. I’m a big believer in crafting songs that come from a place of emotional depth and that is exactly the approach I took in creating this record. When you are singing lyrics to a song that speaks to a moment that you experienced or resonated with you can hear the soul in the vocals. Nothing can replace that. Can you dive into the lyrics of our favorite track, “Another Never Ever”? What emotions did you channel when writing this? “Another Never Ever” is the first track I wrote for this record. It is a song about reflection which is an important element on the journey of getting to “Day One” of the next phase of your life. Often times we get into relationships and tend to repeat the same patterns or get involved with the same mold of a partner. This track is about that moment where you take pause and reflect on the shortcomings of past relationships and taking accountability of where you went wrong in the hope that it will lead to something that can last forever. What are your plans and hopes as an artist throughout the coming months? Live performances and touring so watch out! “Day One” will be gracing a concert venue near you so stay tuned :) Keep up with Aman Dhesi through social media: www.instagram.com/aman_dhesi_music www.amansdhesi.com #BuzzMusic

  • BuzzMusic Interviews GaëL!

Hey GaëL! “All on You” has a strong lyrical depth to it! Can you dive into more details of the lyrics? The lyrics are definitely inspired by a period of trying my best to meet everyone's expectations and falling short of it every time. I went the through a difficult period in my life and realized I was placing trust in all the wrong things and allowing myself to sort of become a slave to those things. I saw that a lot of others live that way without even realizing it. This song really shifted my perspective from trusting in people and things, to instead believing in God (higher power) and remembering that I cannot leave for other people's acceptance. For those who don’t know, how would you describe your sound and your approach to making music? My sound is mixed with the new school hip hop/trap however still in the era of the late 2000s. I have strong and versatile flow and lyrical content and still have catchy verses and hooks. I make music for people who love real raw music. I approach every song wanted to do the best that I can do depending on the feel and what is in my heart. If you can only choose one, which of your latest tracks would you recommend to new listeners, and why? All on You is inspired by placing trust in God through trials and circumstances and having a positive outlook on life believing that things will get better. What inspired your track “All on You”? All on You is inspired by placing trust in God through trials and circumstances and having a positive outlook on life believing that things will get better. Do you always write from a place of honesty and personal experience, or does fiction come into play on occasion? Yes I always write from a place of honesty and personal experience, that being said not every song is about me. I choose to write even from the perspectives of others as well at times. What are the main values you want to represent in the hip hop world? The main values I want to represent is Love and positivity and another option. A lot of things that artist do music about are the same. I just want to bring a different perspective. • BuzzMusic Catches Up With Artist Sean Slick!

We're excited to have you back with us Sean Slick! You've been killing it! How was it producing the album "Big Plans"? What were some interesting moments of surprise for you as an artist? Thank you so much, yeah Big Plans was me all last year crafting something special, I wanted to create like a movie of some sort with every track, painting pictures in the listeners head for them to take away and lament on, almost like a soundtrack to their everyday lives. With every track, i give them Sean Slick the artist, and then i give them Sean Slick the director, I give them concepts, relatability, songs they can chill to, vibes with, get some sort of escapism, every emotion possible and most importantly bop their head to the flow, I don't just rap i flow and i would say that is the key component of rap and overall be entertained. It's my gift to my fans who enjoyed my previous projects like Midnight Dreamer, Rap Scene Menace. I wanted to show them another level i can reach and I believe the overwhelming support for the project surprised me the most. Out of all the tracks on "Big Plans" What would you consider to be your most favorite and why? I like them all but Imagination because well its a banger and it fits in the aesthetic of the project typically in Verse 2. Which song on "Big Plans" do you feel best represents this project overall theme and why do you think that? Very Good Question, The title track Big Plans sets the project off and gives the listener a clear idea of where i'm taking the theme of success. A lyric i say "Got a term aim to reign over this game" that really fits the concept of Big Plans as i'm letting you know that Sean Slick has plans to prove he is the best, its introspective its vulnerable  and you know I would also say Legit Boss because its  a celebratory anthem on what i can do and will do, its quite a banger I would say, production-wise and one thing i always like is for people to take individual tracks they enjoy as well as listen to the project in its entirety. Your songwriting is immaculate! what emotion did you channel in for most of the lyricism on "Big Plans"? I appreciate it so much, I would say determination, ambition and hunger, I wanted to make the best Hip Hop album of the year, in all capacity Underground or Mainstream. I wanted the people to take notice of Sean Slick as a credible artist in Hip HOP and i did have it in the vault for a while and thought it would be the best time to release it in the summer. I would say I am competitive. I guess to prove your worth you have to test the waters but I knew it was heat even by the mid point of recording it was just piecing it together in place and letting it run smoothly. I would say i am an album artist rather than a singles artist and i always make sure i stick to my craft, the fanbase is there, they know what i can deliver so i just set the level from 100 to 200, 300 etc; I already know i'm one of the best at this so its all about consistency. What's next for Sean Slick? Just work on the craft, reach more people, go to the places they love me at and put on epic shows, I know they out there so its just me executing my gift and showing the world like i say in the title track " I tell the world i got a big plans" because thats facts, the world needs to know and I believe its only gonna get better, i can feel it! • Jae Alexander’s “Left Right” Ft. Lil Rugger Will Put An End To Summer As We Know It

Jae Alexander is a talented R&B singer/songwriter and former Air Force active duty veteran. A Maryland native, Alexander was a 2019 nominee for "Best RnB Artist" via Wammies DC and a nominee and recipient of the 2018 T.A.A "Male Vocalist of the Year". Now, Alexander has collaborated with Lil Rugger, rapper and Washington, DC native to drop “Left Right” and put an end to summer as we know it. This record unlike any others of Jae's isn't your usual RnB. This up-tempo hip-hop inspired record just proves the limitless possibilities of Jae Alexander & MK Beatz as a team. Turn the track on and the exact moment you stop moving the track will be over! Jae Alexander and Lil Rugger crafted an up-tempo and sexy classic with “Left Right”. A hard-hitting, entrancing beat meets with an organic contemporary hip-hop sound, setting the mood well from the offset. Jae’s leading vocal and the superb melody that is this song’s hook pour through to seal the deal and satisfy in a memorable way. “Left Right” is a huge track, incredibly effective in terms of the groove and the good vibes it presents. At the same time, it introduces Jae Alexander and Lil Rugger as having a clear connection to the hip-hop and R&B genres. “Left Right” is like a more modern mix of Kanye West’s “Workout Plan” with Jason Derulo’s hypnotic vocals. Add in Jae Alexander and Lil Rugger’s authenticity and originality and you have the newest hit of 2019. I highly recommend that you add this track to your playlist and stay on the lookout for Jae Alexander and Lil Rugger. Listen to “Left Right” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey Jae Alexander! Welcome back. We're loving "Left Right" Ft. Lil Rugger! Was this your first collab with Lil Rugger? Can we expect to see more in the future? Hey, yes it was the first collaboration. Lil Rugger is a diamond in the rough artist, his talents thus far have gone unappreciated, there will definitely be more collabs with the two of us involved. He’s an amazing talent. Much respect. How did you come up with the "boot camp" idea for the hot music video for "Left Right"? I rooted the idea from my military experience. My brother “Butta”, who starred in the video is actually currently in the Army stationed in California. He has always been known for being a funny guy so when he was home I thought I’d take the chance to incorporate him into it. Best way to do so, was something he is already familiar with now. What was the filming process like? Was it intimidating being on set with so many beautiful woman? Filming processes can always be hit or miss. Everything that can go wrong when you have everything planned will. Having the strength and creativity to overcome those things are key to me. In doing so, having the right person directing and behind the camera is paramount. Versus Visualz made everything look easy. He’s a great videographer and doesn’t get enough credit. With the ladies, no, Destiny Vaughan did choreography and casting of the ladies, with me and RnB, the ladies are the least of my worries. It hasn’t been long since we wrote about your song “H2O”. How do you keep yourself on track to write and record so consistently? A lot of my music is prerecorded and sat on for what me and my team like to call the “right time”. Everything is attempted to be planned out, doesn’t always happen that way, but most do. Staying on track is fairly easy right now, seeing I’m already making my music and planning for 2020 already. 2019 was done early this year. How have you honed your vocal style over time, and did it take a while to find your vibe, or did it come naturally? Finding my sound definitely took time, it took patience, before definitely took TIME. I pride myself on being very versatile, so through trying so many sounds and styles over time I was able to find just what I need in every song situation. Keep it fresh, keep it light, and be myself. What’s your main aspiration going forwards in 2019 as an artist? My main aspiration going forward is to take the industry by storm, prove my worth as an artist, and create a platform to the next level where I can showcase just that. Lets get signed by 2020. • Mowgli Shore Captivates With Power Release of “Lift Me Up”

Mowgli Shore is a culturally diverse and well travelled up and coming artist. Spending half his time in California and half his time in Italy, he uprooted his life 5 years ago and took a leap he had never previously imagined. Mowgli chose to pursue a dream in music and chose to live a life of his own making. He quit his job in Chicago, left his home with a laptop and a MIDI keyboard, and moved to Europe to experience a world beyond everything he ever knew. The leap of faith connected Mowgli Shore with a world that existed so far beyond him, and out of this energy, “Primavera” was born. Influenced by European dance music and epic downtempo electronica, crafted in the philosophies behind Herman Hesse’s “Siddhartha” and Albert Camus’ “The Myth of Sisyphus,” Primavera is about rebirth, about experiencing a dream as it blossoms into a reality of your own making, about discovering the very facet of life that connects you with the ineffable beyond. Primavera is the first in a series of EPs inspired by nature’s four seasons and precedes a second EP in Fall 2019 and his debut album, which will be released alongside a digital novel and an innovative multimedia project in the summer of 2020. “In Primavera, I hope you find community, I hope you find your shine, and I hope you find songs that live longer than their run time and make you dream like only the best music can do. In Primavera, I found meaning in dreaming, and I hope you can find it too.” - Mowgli Shore “Lift Me Up” is nothing like anything you could imagine and unlike anything we’ve heard before. There’s a certain darkness and intensity to the words, complete with its intensifying soundscape that builds throughout. As the first few moments of music start to pour through, it’s clear that this is a beautifully unique, creative, melodic and mighty piece of writing and performance, the sort that follows its own rules. “Lift Me Up” is an impressive track, a light acoustic style backs up a soulful alternative pop melody. Various droplets of color and synths rain down in the outer edges. The lyrics drive home the details though, the depth of this writing, the passion and the pain that led the artist to make this release. The contrast between the music and the ideas is immense, and it’s a satisfying and rather addictive alternative hit. Every concept Mowgli Shore has created works beautifully together. Listen to “Lift Me Up” here and read more with this talented artist below! Hi Mowgli! What does the music in “Primavera” represent or mean for you? Primavera was quite a special journey. I've been making music for a while now, but I was always reluctant to share this part of my life with others, mostly out of a fear of being rejected or just plain imposters' syndrome. It was this constant internal battle with myself to commit to chasing this dream, no matter how improbable it seemed. In "The Myth of Sisyphus," which I read throughout the making of the EP, Camus writes about life-changing moments and the journey to find purpose as if it's like jumping across a chasm and into the darkness. He said it's not really the act of jumping but making the decision to leap that is the hardest, most courageous thing to do. I felt like I had been staring at this jump for a long time when the ability to leap was always within me—I just had to decide to do it.  On New Year's Day this year I just broke down. To be totally honest, 2018 was one of the hardest years of my life and this internal battle and the loneliness of creating was slowly killing me, so I told myself I had one more year to actually do this and build a community. That next day I wrote the first song for Primavera (Camelot), reached out to an old friend who I couldn't make the record without, and everything just flowed from there.  All I needed to do was give myself the license to dream with eyes wide open and love myself for my vulnerabilities and dreams. After years of making songs that I knew weren't good enough for me, it took just a few months to make the ones for this record and they stuck instantly.  So when it came down to naming the EP, it was easy. I come from an immigrant family where one side is Mexican and the other Italian, and in both languages primavera means spring. This whole journey felt like a rebirth. Now I'm finally the person I always wanted to be because of it, and I want people to be able to experience that and relate it to their own lives because we all dream and have the courage within us to chase those dreams. Where do you imagine is the best setting in which to experience this music? Believe it or not lot of the record was actually made in the forest. For the last three years I've been living in a tiny village of 900 people in the mountains above Lake Como in Italy. Every day I go for a hike in the forest and get lost in the woods, and when I'm creating I often bring my materials with me in case I'm inspired at any particular moment.  So I would bring my laptop and a MIDI keyboard and a notebook with me wherever I went. I would record melodies and make these grand electronic orchestral arrangements on a tiny keyboard while sitting on a dock by the lake or next to a waterfall in the forest after a three-hour hike. That's where all the ambient soundscapes in the EP come from—there's birds and streams and church bells which acted as the backdrop to my daily life. The entire EP is really a tribute to this place that helped me find purpose in life, and I wanted to bring listeners into that world.  Making the record was such a personal and spiritual journey that it makes sense to experience it in nature, alone, where we're reminded that there's something so much bigger than just us in the world. I even wrote the interlude "A Break in the Clouds" as if you were on a hike with me in Lake Como. I wanted to depict this journey in a nebulous, allegorical sense so that hopefully people can apply this narrative to their lives and dreams, even though it was such a personal confession expressing an intimate moment in my life.  But I learned that it's these most personal moments and vulnerabilities that can actually be the most universal, just like finding ourselves in nature connects us to every generation of humans that have come before us. What do you hope listeners take away from “Lift Me Up”? As I mentioned earlier, right after the new year I reached out to my old friend Jordan who happened to be struggling with the same creative loneliness and internal strife. Jordan's one of the most talented people I know and just an incredible sound engineer and guitarist. Like me, he just needed someone to rely on and let him know the effort was real, because we both knew that these gifts that we have could really impact people's lives for the better.  He ended up mixing and co-producing the record at Pelican Studios up in northern California and "Lift Me Up" was the last song we worked on. I was sitting on that beat for a long time and could never find the right words to put to it. On the last day there, we sat and chatted about the journey to get to this life-changing moment, about how we could remembers days where we didn't want to wake up because we were tired of this endless uphill climb and how in an instant it all changed because we found purpose and community. From there I think I wrote the lyrics in 30 minutes.  We always had this dream in music but together we realized that a dream is only worth the people it can help. Without empathy and positivity and community, dreaming can be a very selfish act. But the most powerful dreams are those that connect us to some kind of purpose, to something that's so far beyond us. Everyone has something, some purpose or dream, that connects them to the beyond. It could be literature or religion or a hobby. For me and Jordan it's music, and we just wanted to encourage everyone to chase after that one thing that lifts you up to what's beyond us. Which single composition of yours would you recommend to new listeners, and why? I would say go into nature alone with a pair of good headphones and sit down and listen to "A Break in the Clouds" and "Shine" back-to-back. It was really created as one song that describes the moment we take that beautifully terrifying leap into the unknown. I think too often we listen to music or engage with art as an escape from reality, but I really wanted something to embrace our reality, even if things are dim sometimes. Sometimes we need a winter to appreciate the spring, and "Shine" is that moment where we announce ourselves to the world just like the sun on the first warm day of spring.  It's about listening to that little whisper in your soul that we like to call intuition. It takes so much courage to follow that whisper in the middle of all the noise that surrounds us. And when we open ourselves completely to these emotions and show people how human it is to be vulnerable, we're rewarded with the very best that humanity has to offer: empathy, community, love. The second I started to shine this little light, no matter how reluctant I was to try, I saw others around me begin to do the same. We all have it in us to inspire those around us. We all have the courage to chase after stars we never thought were in reach. What’s your main aspiration as an artist right now? I want to connect with as many people as possible and use this platform to help people find their bliss in the world. I just want to be there for anyone who needs someone, because we're never alone in our personal journeys to find purpose. If I'm not doing that every day, if this world isn't a better place because of this work, that's the only definition of failure for me. At least with this record, I know we're doing our part. I'm still getting messages every week from friends and strangers telling me how Primavera has impacted their lives, and it often brings me to tears. On top of that, because experiencing nature and all its wonders was such a critical part of the record, we've decided that 10-percent of the proceeds from the EP will go to conservancy programs protecting U.S. National Parks threatened by the privatization of public land and federal budget cuts under the current administration.  I'm already working on the next EP, which will have much more hip-hop and dance influences rather than the grand downtempo electronica on Primavera. And Jordan and I couldn't be more excited to start playing shows when I move back to California next month. We're putting together an incredible live set along with a new studio, and we're really going to hit touring hard so we can connect with as many people as possible. So tell everyone to look out for us in the fall with a new EP and lots of live shows to come! Connect more with Mowgli Shore and his music through his socials: Facebook Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic

  • Morsifire Speaks His Truth And Blends Genres Flawlessly With “Contact” Ft. Emily Afton

Hailing from the outskirts of San Francisco, Andrew Seely aka Morsifire straddles the line between hip-hop and indie alternative, crafting an indelible sound from his harrowing past that lands somewhere between Kid Cudi and 21 Pilots. His painfully honest stories are lifted directly from a fractured childhood, raised by a drug addicted single mother and exposed to the untimely loss of his younger sister and father. As a young adult he suffered from panic attacks, often so severe he ended up in the hospital. The only thing that seemed to quell his anxiety was music, an art which he dissected and pursued with abandon, gaining acceptance to Berklee and studying music production abroad in Spain. The groove of “Contact” is very easy to get into, there’s a classic and subsequently nostalgic aura to the whole thing. The songwriting, the concept and the story-line at the heart of the experience brings a certain depth of thought that surpasses most contemporary hip-hop offerings. Rather than simply asking a basic relationship question, there’s more of a consideration on life. As the lyrics pour through you notice an introspective style that this writing clearly presents. All in all, the gentle beat and the quietly expressive vocals work well together to create something refreshingly light and easy to get on board with. The whole thing is humble yet striking, calmly confident, loaded with emotional turmoil but careful in its introduction of this. Morsifire and Emily’s vocals contrast perfectly with one another. For those looking for something different in the music scene right now, to inspire and enthuse them, “Contact” could be the one. We can’t wait to hear more! Check out “Contact” Ft. Emily Afton here! • Billy Mick Wants Us To Know That We’re All Just “Flesh And Bone”

Billy Mick is a gay singer/songwriter from Orlando, Florida. Currently working on his debut studio album, Billy has already released three incredible singles. After attending Manchester Pride in 2018, he was inspired to write the third single, “Flesh and Bone”. He was recently honored to perform at Inspire Orlando and at the Miss GayDays Pageant in Orlando. “Flesh and Bone” is everything we wanted it to be and more! It surpassed our expectations through it’s empowering and energetic vibe. “Flesh and Bone” is incredibly catchy and uplifting throughout. The opening moments lay out something to relate to and the later sections add entire new levels of entertainment value. While Billy Mick’s vocal is loud and cheerful enough from the start to carry a song like this with authenticity and vibrancy, that central performance only evolves to become even more attention grabbing and striking as it goes on. With an overall message of love, empowerment and acceptance, we can’t get enough of “Flesh and Bone”. The energy and brightness of Billy’s voice and the track in full intensifies throughout and we can’t wait to hear his full album! Stay tuned! Check out “Flesh and Bone” here and read more below in our exclusive interview. Hey Billy! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started in the music industry? I’ve been singing and writing songs since I was old enough to talk. My dad was very into the Rolling Stones, Bob Seger; more Rock n’Roll. My mom liked more of the Pop, like The Beach Boys, Frankie Avalon. And I would just lay in my room for hours a day listening to all of their records. I’ve just always had a great love of all music! Was there a specific event/person in your life that made you get into music/ start recording your material? Last year, my husband and I traveled to Manchester Pride; the amazing sense of community and acceptance was awe inspiring! Seeing so many diverse, talented performers on the musical stages really made me feel like the time was right for me to start getting my music out there. I wanted to be on those stages! Who are you musical influences and how do they help shape your sound? My biggest influences are Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Garth Brooks, Tina Turner and Cher! My music taste is pretty eclectic and my songs are as well. I don’t think about needing to try to fit songs together when I’m writing. I just let it flow and sometimes it comes out dancey sometimes it’s poppy, sometimes it rock n’roll and some say it’s a little bit country. What does “Flesh and Bone” mean to you? What do you want your listeners to take away from it? I wrote Flesh and Bone after Manchester Pride! I had just experienced so much love, so much togetherness and such a strong sense of community. After that event, all I could think of was, “if everyone across the world could always be like this with each other, this world would be a pretty amazing place.” My hope is people will listen to this and be inspired to spread love and be more accepting of differences. Can you tell us more about your upcoming album? We can’t wait to hear more! “Just B.” is an album about celebrating life, love, individuality and equality! I did all of the music which was really cool because I was really able to get in all of these different styles and have a through line of lyrics. It took me a long time to really find my voice and I was able to realize it with this album! Give a listen to "Toxic (No Britney)" here, and keep reading for more with Symphonic! Welcome to BuzzMusicLA Symphonic! We know you were born in the heart of Motown. How was it growing up? In what ways were you influenced by your upbringing and the musical city you lived in? Hello hello! Being from Motown, you always feel an obligation to be in tune with the soul that comes with the music. I actually had the pleasure of not only being from Detroit, but living in Louisville, KY from ages 5 to 15. I look at myself as having the grit and "gutta" of a Midwestern artist with the flare and bounce of a Southern artist. Growing up was difficult at times, you know, single mom working and having a sister that's 7 years younger than me. I had to find creative ways to stay occupied and music was my getaway. What would you consider the most challenging aspect of creating a new song? In what ways do you overcome this hurdle? I think the most challenging aspect of creating a new song is getting it to a point where YOU, the artist likes it. Some people don't realize that by the time you hear a single from your favorite artist, they've heard that same song 100, 200, 1000 times. It's when you can finally listen on that last time and say, "This is major and I'm ready for people to hear what I have to offer." I overcome this by sticking to my gut and my intuition. If I got a feeling from a song that it's going to be something special, I don't question that, I roll with that. At the end of that day, you have to take a risk and throw some darts out there. If it sticks, there you go. If it doesn't? Take Aaliyah's advice. You can dust it off and try again! Talk to us about your hit “Toxic (No Britney)” This song resonated well with us here at Buzz. Did you go for any specific arrangements? How would you detail the production of this song? Man, that has become my favorite song in my discography and my favorite song to perform. I wrote that song on a lunch break inside of a local bakery because the production spoke to me so intently, I needed to get my ish off! Making this song, the hook came to me first and I sat there and said, "How can I elevate what's already good to make people listen more?" and that's where the "No Britney" subtitle came from. We are in no way affiliated with legend Britney Spears' 2003 hit "Toxic" but we pay homage wherever and however we can! Being an openly gay artist, finding KeyAno, the producer of the record, and seeing that he is an openly gay producer with untouchable production talent, just made the record that much more powerful. I look at him as the Timbaland to my Missy Elliott. He brings the best out of me on all of his productions. "Toxic (No Britney)" is a piece of modern day hip-hop with a west coast bounce and a nod to the 2000's with the hook and lyrics! Who would you consider to be the biggest influence for you as a rapper and why? My two biggest influences musically, because they're quite different and I can't pick one over the other would be Aaliyah and Gucci Mane. Aaliyah is the pinnacle of individuality and uniqueness, the two things I preach the most to myself and others. She taught me how to be smooth and listen for the intricacies in an instrumental. She kept a mystique that I feel is now lost, in the world of social media and instant gratification. She wasn't afraid to put herself out there as more than a singer, but a full-blown entertainer and her sound & look is still unmatched but duplicated to this day. Gucci Mane La Flare!! My Instagram handle for the longest time was @thegayguccimane haha! And that rings true still! Gucci Mane is also an artist to have such a unique and distinct style but adding to that, he also has the ear to listen for that same thing in others. He was the first rapper I ever fully committed to being a fan of. I call him the leader of the new school because truthfully, if it wasn't for the formula Gucci Mane created, we'd have none of the new, hot rappers of today. His work ethic is mind-blowing and inspirational. What’s next for you Symphonic? Hopefully a chicken sandwich from Popeyes! You see how crazy that is? Nah, but for real, I'm just buckling down and investing in myself and my brand. Getting myself in front of audiences and shooting music videos. Being seen and setting the tone for what I aim to bring into this game. I plan on releasing my debut album this year and I have a few spot dates coming up as well! September 12th, I'll be in LA performing at The People's Party showcase and you can always catch me in Denver as well! • Feel Empowered With Sarah & The Shirzans’ Debut Single “Hunt”

Rightfully named after the Persian word for "Lioness," The Shirzans are a truly diverse, all-female ensemble that were founded during the summer of 2018 by the band's lead singer, Sarah Khatami. As an activist whose own solo music has much to do with social issues, Sarah's goal with this all-female band was to place women at the forefront of her local music scene, where they belong. In a male-dominated industry, Sarah & the Shirzans are answering back to the disrespect and lack of recognition with their own voice. They are here to change the narrative and represent aspiring musicians and artists like themselves: women of color, queer women, and women as a whole. "I had just gotten sick of being disrespected and belittled by men in rehearsals and recording sessions, and I noticed that women listened to me, understood me, supported me, and genuinely cared about the quality of the music we were playing." Sarah & The Shirzans make their powerful debut with “Hunt”. There’s a purpose to a song like this, there’s an intention to the writing, and those leading vocals captivate beautifully to reinforce this right the way through. There are moments of full throttle weight and power as the track reaches its peak. Insane guitar work is met by a quickly compelling chord progression and lyrical substance, all of which is strengthened further thanks to the band’s unquestionably impressive performances across the board. “Hunt” is incredibly energizing, uplifting and empowering in many ways. The best way to experience a track like this is either at volume or at a live show. With an incredible debut like “Hunt”, we can’t wait to experience more from Sarah & The Shirzans. Listen to “Hunt” here and read more below in our exclusive interview. Welcome to BuzzMusic! In your own words, what’s the concept behind “Hunt”, and why did you decide to create a song around that? When we were in writing sessions for the EP, we came up with the title "Hunt" before we even started writing the song. We noticed that all of the songs that we’d written so far had a common theme of searching/yearning for something more. Most of us had recently graduated from Berklee and a huge chapter of all of our lives was coming to a close, and we felt like the word "hunt" perfectly described how we were feeling. The song itself, however, doesn't really have much to do with the whole "searching/not-really-knowing-what-we're-doing-with-our-lives" theme. It was actually based on a poem written by one of our background vocalists, Michela McDonagh, about the Salem witch trials. We were literally in a writing session, and as soon as Michela showed me the poem, I knew that the song was going to be a bop and that we were literally going to crush the entire patriarchy with it, so I immediately texted our bassist, Sophie Potrykus, and was like "girl, I need you to send us a funky bass line stat,” and then we wrote the song. It’s basically about how history is constantly repeating itself. Just as the witches suffered in the 1600s, women are still suffering today, and so this song is our way of fighting back, and honestly just getting revenge on men. What do you hope people take away from this release? Our music is for female-identifying people. Particularly women of color and queer women. We hope that the people who identify as such can see themselves in us and feel empowered by our music. Who or what would you say inspires or influences you the most musically? I mean, we do a lot of Ariana Grande covers at our shows sometimes because it’s fun, but I’m not sure if she’s like a huge musical influence for us. But if I’m speaking for the whole group, I think I’d say, collectively, we’re all really inspired by Noname, Lizzo, and Janelle Monáe. What are your main aspirations as a group right now? Honestly, we’re not thinking too far into the future at the moment. Right now, we’re focusing really hard on getting the EP done so we can announce a release date, and filming a music video for Hunt. I think we’ll probably do a couple more shows before the end of the year, mostly in New York. And who knows, maybe at some point down the line, we’ll go on tour. But I think right now, we’re just focusing on the present and really trying to perfect this record. What’s something about you that most people don’t know? We’re all just the biggest One Direction stans you’ll ever meet. And also, “shirzan” is the Persian word for “lioness,” but I feel like anyone who follows our social media probably knows that already.
