- Electro-Funk Collective The Winachi Tribe Team Up With I Kong In “Parasites Paradise”
The Winachi Tribe's rise in a relatively short space of time has been astonishing. From humble beginnings as the UK’s North West Electro Funk underdogs, to collaborating with a large impressive cast of legendary names from the world of music and acting, gaining major press and airplay all over the world and touring both the U.K & LA. In collaboration with I Kong, Jamaican Reggae royalty, they release “Parasites Paradise”. “Parasites Paradise” features musical warmth and thickness of certain moments. The lead vocals have a consistent delicacy to it that keeps a strong dynamic alive and well throughout the entire release. By the time the song has finished, those vocal snippets that introduce it and run throughout are likely to be the main thing you take away. The Winachi Tribe manages to balance a clear understanding of music with a sheer passion for melody and originality. “Parasites Paradise” is everything a summer hit should be, likely to appeal across generations of funk lovers, but also highly likely to prove to be a timeless more genre-free hit. Electro-Funk music meets with the entrancing rhythms of I Kong to produce something completely immersive and uplifting. I highly recommend you listen to “Parasites Paradise” here and read more with The Winachi Tribe below! Hey, welcome to BuzzMusic! For those who don’t know, what is The Winachi Tribe? The Winachi Tribe is an electro funk sonic soul collective from the north of England. We're known for fusing many different musical genre's together including Funk, HipHop, House Music, Soul, Rock to make our own unique Winachi sound. We approach the creation of our music with an open mind, there's no set formula. We have a collective attitude which has led to us collaborating with a wide range of legendary names from the world of music and film including 'Howie B' 'Tommy Flanagan' 'John X' 'Keith Allen 'Danny Saber' 'I Kong' 'Rowetta' 'Alabama 3' 'Inder Goldfinger' to name but a few. We've spent the last two years extensively touring the U.K, USA (West Coast) & Europe (Italy & France). Los Angeles has become our second home. We toured the west coast twice in 2018, playing high profile shows with 'The Charlatans' at 'The Teragram Ballroom', x2 LIVE sessions for 'Behriner' as part of their 'Artist Profile Series', a TV appearance on 'Trojan TV' filmed at 'USC' and a headline show at 'Harvard & Stone' on Hollywood Boulevard. We filmed the video for our single 'A Room With A Zoo' in 2016 with Hollywood royalty Tommy Flanagan (Sons Of Anarchy) in Malibu and have just finished working on our album with legendary producer John X (David Bowie / The Rolling Stones) at the most beautiful studio in the world 'Earthstar Creation Center' in Venice...L.A has been good to Winachi!!! haha 'The Winachi Tribe' is it's own unique entity...we do things our way at our own pace...it's infectious, once you're in the Tribe you're never leaving. Where did your musical journey begin, and what is it about the art form that keeps you involved and passionate about creating? Our musical journey as 'The Winachi Tribe' started in 2015, we emerged from a previous band called 'China White'. Because of the controversy that surrounded our previous name we changed it to 'The Winachi Tribe'...it was the best thing we ever did. Since then we've been on a journey that's impossible to put into words, it's taken us to places we could never of imagined and done things that most people would only dream of...we're very privileged to do what we do and we don't don't take it for granted at all. But everything we've achieved and experienced we've worked for, worked REALLY hard for so we deserve it. You only get out what you put in...and obviously you need to be good at what you do...and we're more than good...we're the best. Tell us about your single “Parasites Paradise”! What inspired this song? Parasites Paradise' is a collaboration with Jamaican reggae legend 'I Kong'. It's a fusion of Roots Reggae and Disco Funk Rock. The collaboration was set up by Tony Zhu, the manager of our Chinese record label 'Handshake Records'. 'I Kong' although Jamaican is of Chinese decent and is one the biggest Reggae stars in China / Asia...the guy is genuinely Reggae Royalty!!! It was a huge honour to collaborate with him on this release and he and his Son Shaquille have been nothing but hugely supportive in the promotion of the single. The concept of the track was loosely based on the parasites of the music business and rising above them. It's a positive song about a negative subject. It's got one hell of a groove too...go check it out!!! Heavy duty Table playing from Mr. Inder Goldfinger!!! It's received major airplay all over the world from the BBC to KCRW. Me and Shaquille Kong are looking to collaborate on something in the very near future so keep your eyes and ears peeled people...something BIG is coming over the mountain #GlobalTribe!!! Have you collaborated with I Kong before? No this was the first time we'd worked with 'I Kong'...but hopefully it wont be the last!!! Like I said, me and Shaquille Kong are gonna be working on something, more news on that soon!!! What’s your plan creatively throughout the rest of 2019, and what’s the bigger picture for you, where do you hope to take things? We have a short tour of the South Of France coming up the end of August. Then we have some BIG announcements coming regarding our collaboration with Iconic Italian fashion brand 'Pantofola d'Oro'. We're due to head back to L.A in November for a series of shows & press. Plus we have a number of U.K dates in Autumn - 14th September - 'Old Saw Mill Garden Party' (Headline // Lenthor Farm) // 5th October - 'Bowlers '(Madchester Event // Headline // Manchester) - 29th October 'An Evening With Shaun Ryder' (City Varieties Music Hall // Leeds). - Check Out The Contagious Sounds Of AQUASHADE In “Television”
Atlanta-based pop-rock duo AQUASHADE is comprised of brothers, Luke and Atticus Roness. This dynamic "band of brothers" has generated local buzz, on their newest EP "Car Talk". Garnering over 25,000 streams on Spotify and 2 records under their belt, AQUASHADE is ready to take the world by storm. We checked out the infectious new groove “Television”, a single off of AQUASHADE’s latest EP “Car Talk”. The melody and leading vocal style all present a genuinely emotional mood that connects naturally with the lyrics. As the track progresses, the sound seems to grow thicker and fuller. The hook resounds as the drums crash through and the riffs seeks to completely envelop the listener. AQUASHADE offer skillful musicianship and carefree creativity on top of their conceptual story-telling, so all listeners can find relatability within their tracks. “Television” is impressively fresh, raw and honest to really help drive it home. A great track and a band well worth looking out for in the coming months. Listen to “Television” here and keep scrolling for more with AQUASHADE! Hey guys! Thanks for chatting with us. Within your duo, who writes the songs, and do you always agree on topics, lines, ideas? We truly consider the writing process a team effort, because a song of ours doesn't truly become a song until we have both left our mark on it. With that being said, I (Atticus) write most of the songs in their rawest form. I tend to be an older soul, making music a bit more 70's & 80's inspired, and Luke is right there with me on that, so yes we usally always agree when it comes to the songwriting process. What comes first, lyrics, melody, music? For me, it always goes music first. The music informs my lyrics and meoldy on the type of song it's going to be. For example if it's a happier chord progression I know the melody and lyrics will steer in that direction. While music comes first, my priority when writing our songs is melody. If you don't have a hook, there's nothing for the listener to grab onto and remember you by. What do you hope to achieve with your project “Car Talk”? With Car Talk, and all of our past and future work, our aspirations have been simple. We just want to bring conviction and melody back to a music world desperately needing more of it. We believe have something to offer, especially with the Car Talk EP. Can you tell us more about the meaning and inspiration behind “Television”? Yes! So, with Television I really tried to channel the idea of irony -the happy beat with the sadder lyrics. I find that idea so interesting. In it's essence, Television is about losing something you love and feeling like your world stops, but the rest of the world doesn't. It's a real feeling, and I think it's important to highlight and empathize with it, as we tried to showcase in the video; this feeling of incurable loneliness in an ironic way. What’s next for AQUASHADE? For us, it's to get in the studio and start making this third EP & playing shows. We have so far exceeded where I thought we would be, as a couple of teenage brothers making tunes, and so anything and everything along the path to making music that matters to the people, we take it in and rejoice in it! Be sure to listen to "This Bitter Earth" here, and check below for our interview with Aruba Red! Hello Aruba Red! We're beyond happy to be featuring you and your latest release "This Bitter Earth" on BuzzMusic! What was it like coming back after your hiatus? Hey Buzz Music, thanks so much. Coming back after my hiatus felt like coming home. I was kind of forced to stop making music for a long time. All my work was taken off iTunes and streaming platforms and I was in the shadows for a long time living a lie. It wasn’t right to have my creativity stifled in that way. I think when it’s part of who you are, you can’t hide from it, you will always feel like something is missing if you’re not making art. When I put out my last EP ‘Holy Waters’, it felt so good to be making music again and to be able to share it with people. The support was so healing. That project was literally therapy for me. "This Bitter Earth" is surging with articulate emotions. What kind of feelings did you want listeners to be washed over with when listening to the song? The song is a cover of Dinah Washington’s 1960s original, I only heard it for the first time last year and it had a big impact on me. I was really taken over by the somber feeling of the song, the sadness really resonated with me for many reasons, partly what had been going on for me personally but also what’s going on collectively around the world. I’m a big believer that once you record a song and set it free, it will take on its own life and have its own journey. For me the song represents letting go of a lot of negative energy that I had carried for far too long. I’ve had feedback from people relating the song to the current situation in Kashmir, to the fight against the surge of the far right, to the helplessness people are feeling in regards to what’s happening to our planet. I would love for listeners to be able to completely immerse themselves in the emotions of the song, eyes closed, headphones on, ideally to be left with a sense of hope and not being alone. How would you say your music now compares to the music you curated when you first started out in the music industry? Transformation and growth is at the heart of everything I do, I’m on my own journey of healing. I think when I first started out, some of my music was more overtly political whereas now I’m more on an autobiographical vibe. I just continue to be a vessel for whatever comes through me at the time. What predominant message was integrated within "This Bitter Earth"? A message of hope, light coming from darkness, connection after loneliness. An opportunity to celebrate and pay homage to this beautiful song written by Clyde Otis in the 1969s, using beautifully soulful, sensitive and meditative instrumentation provided by the immensely talented Renell Shaw on bass and Nathan Lee on flute. What would you say inspires you and your music? I am inspired by the themes of healing and transformation. I create music for adult children of addicts and alcoholics, for parents trying to heal themselves so their children can be free, for recovering codependents, for empaths, for activists, for survivors of narcissistic abuse... I want this music to act as a campfire for anyone who needs to feel its warmth. Discover Aruba Red's socials below for updates on her music! Facebook Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic
- Find A Moment Of Escapism With Purple Grid’s “Hangin’ On” Ft. Ekidna & Anna B.
Purple Grid was born in the early eighties in Italy, homeland to the Italo Disco sounds. All his life Purple Grid has been exposed to a diverse range of musical genres. Everything from synth/pop from the eighties, big beat and nu-metal from the nineties, and alt-rock and electronica from the new millennium. His influences are clear through the pulse-driven synth bass lines and signature stabbing arpeggios. Purple Grid takes synth-wave to the next level, from the light-flooded sunsets on palm beaches of the '80s, right into the deep rhythm of the acid disco nights of the '90s. “Hangin’ On” Ft. Ekidna and Anna B. is poetic and reflective of the deep thinkers out there. The verses lightly guide you through these questioning thought patterns, the music offering a sense of dreamlike delicacy, leaving room for the listener to really soak up the moment and consider the ideas. The hook features and elegant, yet upbeat, energy and brightness as Purple Grid sings, “Getting there as fast as we can”. The repetition of those words leaves the listener with a sense of optimism and possibility. The contrast of harmonically- rich female vocals add to the overall ambiance. “Hangin’ On” is a mighty release, easily radio-ready and worthy of a few plays! Check out “Hangin’ On” here and read more with Purple Grid down below! Hey Purple Grid, welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you tell us more about how you got started making music and how you create your stage name? Hi everyone, thank you so much for having me! This story goes back in time... I took up classical music in junior high, but it wasn't until high school that I started my own band. Those were the nineties of the nu-metal and the big electronica beats, and I was completely ensnared by that sound. Then life happened, and I gave up music to explore my other side of creativity: digital art, photography and videomaking. It wasn't until a year ago that I decided to brush the dust off my old skills and try again: as for many thirty-something out there, nostalgia kicked in, and synthwave was an almost obliged choice.I must admit that at first I didn't have so many expectations about this project: even the name I chose is totally a cliché. If you look up "synthwave" on Google images, you'll see that 90% of the pics sport a purple grid on the floor, in the typical "TRON" look and feel... Is this your first time collaborating with Ekidna and Anna B? What was that experience like? My friendship with Ekidna goes back a long time, actually. We first met when I directed a music video for his metal band, maybe ten years ago. Then things led to others and we ended up recording a (still unreleased) EP together. When I started my new project, it seemed natural recruiting him on vocal duties, since we already worked together.Anna B. is literally part of my family (she's my niece). She's been singing in a local acoustic trio for a few years and, when a female vocalist was needed for my song, her dreamy voice was the perfect match for the atmosphere we wanted to recreate in "Hangin' On". Can you tell us more about what you hope to achieve with your new single “Hangin’ On”? What inspired this song? Beneath its almost synthwave-standard elements (sports cars, palm trees, beaches and sunset), in "Hangin' On" there's more than meets the eye. This song was written as I was confronting a hard time in my life. Summer was coming and I was homeless and broke. Nothing to be happy about, right? But nevertheless I had to keep going and I ended up writing this song.Since things went much better from there, I learnt that songwriting is a medicine to me. I really hope that if someone which is in a bad moment listens to it, they may get even a little fraction of the positive energy and mood that I got while writing it. Where do you imagine is the best setting in which to experience this music? Well, the thing I really like about synthwave is its ability to create imaginary landscapes that take up on our childhood memories. So no matter where you are, if you close your eyes while listening to "Hangin' On", you'll end up on a white Lambo, driving up to the beach towards the sunset, with your loved one at your side. Well, try not to close your eyes if you're actually driving, or you'll probably end up elsewhere (hint: not a white Lambo). What's next for Purple Grid? Lots of stuff! My second single, "Airfire" is already out on all digital stores. There's also a music video for it, written and directed by yours truly. My third single is due next month, and it will complete the first "Time Travel" concept trilogy of songs. But that's not all: I have much more up my sleeve for the upcoming season, just follow me on Instagram and Facebook to keep in touch! Be sure to connect with Purple Grid via their socials below! - Nick Rannikko Produces A Killer Summer Single!
Hailing from Belchertown, Massachusetts, Nick Rannikko is a hard-working producer in the music scene, producing music as well as integrating his dynamic vocals into the tracks. Getting into music from an incredibly young age, Nick knew music was his calling for sure. Getting an early start being exposed to the music scene, Nick captured a variety of his experiences throughout life, and applies all knowledge to the curation of his music. It's easy to tell when artists take their time to craft a single. Nick Rannikko is undoubtedly that type of artist that pours his most into his creations, and it doesn't go unnoticed! His latest track, "Fucked Up" will almost certainly catch your attention with its undeniable eccentric energy! Nick's "Fucked Up" is that perfect mix of Pop, Rap, integrated with a slight House vibe. Featuring Eliza Roe, "Fucked Up" is that type of song that expels an inspirational feeling to it. You know those tracks you give a listen to and automatically feel motivated and uplifted? Nick's track is that type of song--you can quite literally feel the energy surging from the track. Capturing that bubbly and vivacious rhythm, "Fucked Up" embodies a more modern and jubilant sound. It puts you in a relaxing and positive mood. We need more types of songs like Nick's, where you have an underlying catchy beat mixed with a feel-good tempo all throughout! The vocalism is also pitch-perfect, something we can't just not comment on. Eliza Roe does an amazing job tying up the elements Nick provides to the track, as her voice is incredibly angelic. Tied in with Nick's voice as well, we truly believe the two complement each others voices extremely well for the type of track "Fucked Up" is. Nick Rannikko also definitely does a stellar job with the production of "Fucked Up", and we're seriously looking out for more of his upcoming releases, because Nick is no newbie when it comes to producing a killer summer track. Listen to "Fucked Up" here, and keep reading for our interview with Nick Rannikko. Hey Nick! Nice getting to chat with you! Tell our readers how your musical journey has been thus far? It's been up and downhill actually. At some points, I'll have no inspiration and get frustrated when trying to come up with any ideas. But lately, I've been cranking out songs left and right for my upcoming EP. I've been getting a lot of great feedback on some of the songs too. I'm at the point now where I'm confident with my music and I can try to put my name out there. Hearing what people think about my music while building a solid fanbase has been going great so far. "Fucked Up" was an energetic and fun-loving track! How did the production of the song go for you? Honestly, It was difficult trying to come up with how I wanted it to sound. At first, it was just a simple piano melody with a solid kick and a clap and I didn't know what direction it was going to take. The idea in my head originally was supposed to be a slow, chill kind of track but after playing around with some presets on serum I found out how I wanted the song to be. After having a solid base down for the song, I decided to contact Eliza to see if she wanted to be on another song and luckily enough, she was down! I can't thank her enough because she really captured the vibe of what the song is supposed to be and really made "Fucked Up" what it truly is. After getting her vocals on the first part of the track, it was easy to come up with the whole song because of how inspired I was. The song actually took about 6 or 7 months to complete because I really wanted to make this song one that people could feel and not just hear. What kind of feeling were you wanting your listeners to receive when listening to your latest track? I really wanted to capture the feeling of, almost like, a first kiss. The energy you feel, the rising butterflies you get, and the pure adrenaline rush you have. The song is about two people who don't really know how to show their feelings to each other while also knowing that they both still love each other but kind of "Fucked Up" their relationship. I really wanted to make the beat hard but also have a solid, and happy melody to it like it's calling back on the feeling towards the memories the two used to have. What would you say feeds your passion for music daily? Just the experience of pure life feeds my passion. There are so many moments in life that people don't even realize happens where you can take that moment or feeling and put it in a song. Whenever something tragic, sad, happy, or just flat out ridiculous happens, I take out my phone and start firing away at lyrics or record myself poorly mumbling a melody to put into some sort of track later. Granted, I've only been alive for 19 years but most of my songs have come from just how I felt in the moment of my life and there's still plenty of life left. So I'm excited to see what I come up with next. Are you planning on performing any of your tracks in the near future? Right now I'm super busy working on my EP and still have a couple of tracks to work on. After that's done I'll most likely start to perform my songs. But long term I would absolutely love to perform my tracks in the future. Get to know more on Nick via his social media: Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic
- BuzzMusic Catches Up With Allie Roar Through An Exclusive Interview!
Welcome back to BuzzMusic Allie! We're so excited about your new single "Small Town Love"! Tell us more about the creation of the song! Thanks for having me back! Small town love is my first single that I released last May. I have been floored with the incredible support that I have received as a result of the release and couldn’t be more thankful! I think that it really captures my sound and lyrical ability. This is just a stepping stone in my career and I can not wait to release more music! We found "Small Town Love" to be incredibly soft and honest. As listeners, we feel connected to you and your story in the song. Is it hard for you to expose your honest and true side to your listeners through your music? Honestly no! I want to create music that people can relate to because that’s personally the music I connect with most. Songs that are honest and vulnerable. Small town love captures the tragic love story between a small town girl and a city boy. Unrequited love is definitely something that so many people can relate to One of the reasons we love featuring you and your music on BuzzMusic is that you have a genuine quality to yourself, and your music that is easily recognizable. How do you feel you come off to the majority of your listeners, as an artist? I think that my sound is really different. You have to be different to stick out and that is what attracts listeners. Id like to think that they think of me as an honest and unique artist as well as someone who can capture something that they are feeling that they couldn’t put into words. Do you feel like you face any predominant challenges in the music scene? What kind of challenges have you faced that has ultimately shaped you as an artist today? Finding myself as an artist has been very difficult. Since I am so young I can shamelessly say I don’t know who I am yet, and that’s okay. But it has made it hard to find my sound and the message that I want to convey within my music. However the more i write and play the more i find myself and I can now say that I feel like I’ve overcome this challenge! How has performing been lately? Are you planning on playing more shows in the near future? I performed a lot over the summer back home in Florida. I also played in the tall city blues fest in midland Texas ( my first ever festival!!) and that was an incredible experience.I recently just moved to Nashville so I can’t wait to play around music city!! Give a listen to the latest on Allie Roar's music here, and check out Allie's Instagram in order to connect! #BuzzMusic
- Young Burton Drops “Best Friend” In Collaboration With Mouton
Young Burton aka YB, born as Darrio Burton in Beaufort, South Carolina, started rapping in 2014. Being inspired by poverty and using music as a way to escape the reality of a broken community, YB is an artist and rapper with a fierce passion for lyricism and fast rhymes when it comes to crafting original hip hop. Prodigy introduces his sound well, a track that grows more immersive and impressive as it moves along, but one that aims high from the offset – effectively tipping its hat to some of the yester-year greats. Musically, “Best Friend” Ft. Mouton offers a partly organic, colorful soundscape, suggestive of simple good times and a carefree aura. This gives the music an easy-going yet confident feel, so you expect a passionate and energetic performance on top of it. That’s precisely what you get. The outpouring of lyrics is heavy, so much so that a second listen is necessary. “Best Friend” is fun, confident and mighty in its intention and drive. Hopefully with future releases listeners will come to gather a little more info as to who the artist is. This motivational, energizing vibe works perfectly as a go-to anthem whenever you need a little kick. Check out “Best Friend” Ft. Mouton here and read more with Young Burton in our exclusive interview below! Hi YB! How old were you when you released your very first track? I was 18 years old and didn’t know anything about recording or laying down vocals. Every artist thinks all you have to do is rap the words you wrote but in all actuality you have to know how to project your vocals in the booth, the correct pitch, what part of the beat you change your flow on etc How does your earlier music compare to your recent release “Best Friend”? Before I knew how to market myself I would just post the song on YouTube, SoundCloud, Reverbnation and any where else I could add my music for free. This was before I knew about copyrights and owning beats, clearing samples to use etc. I was a beginner from the business standpoint. Now before releasing any content, my mentor and I put together a well thought out plan on what to release, how to release it and in what quarter should we focus on releasing it in. Now that I’m aware of these things and no longer want to be viewed as just another guy who raps over beats for fun. I’d like to carry myself as a determined professional artist who takes all the right steps when releasing a new project. So before I was basically just throwing my music to the world without a format and hoping for results now as I like to say we have a method to the madness. Tell us what you want your listeners to take away from “Best Friend” Best friends is about two people in a relationship no matter what sexual preference you have. Everyone wants that special someone who they call their best friend in a relationship. It’s relatively open to the world of love and when you listen to it makes you feel as though you are in love or thinking about that person who you hold dear to your heart. This track doesn’t have a age limit attached to it as most love songs do these days from having explicit content. I just want my fans and new fans to experience the same feeling I had when writing the song and that’s love. When you’re not making music, what do you do? I’m never not making music lol but when I’m not in the studio I focus on family, becoming a better person than I was yesterday and studying hard about foreign trades and running a business to become successful outside of music. What inspired you to keep making music everyday? My inspiration comes from life it self. Just being able to provide for my love ones and knowing where I came from and where I’m at now in life. I try to paint a picture of every obstacle I had to over come in life hoping that someone who’s going through what I went through would hear my music and just relate. My two biggest influences are Doe Boogie and 24kayz. Boogie taught 24kayz everything about music and he’s doing great in this business and they didn’t have to go to school or anything to learn it. So in the mist of being mentored by both of them allowed me to teach my 2 younger brothers a skill that they can enjoy doing while making great income. Also with the new wave that’s over the game now, I feel like they are missing my sound and that’s enough to keep me pushing until YB becomes a house hold name. Then hopefully my story would inspire someone after me. Keep up with the artist through his socials! www.instagram.com/officialyb1 #BuzzMusic

Saying In Love & WAR's sound is tranquil would be an understatement. In Love & WAR creates music that is beyond tranquility, it resonates deep within the hearts of her listeners, and creates intangible ambiance. Her vocal dynamics are stellar, to say the least. Giving us notable vocal elements from artists such as Zee Avi, In Love & WAR embodies a serene environment, especially so in "Stars". Her voice will lure you in, and her overall execution is mesmerizing. Give a listen to "Stars" if you're in the mood for an eclectic, angelic experience! Discover "Stars" here, and keep reading our in depth interview with In Love & WAR below! Hi In Love & WAR! Please tell our readers a bit about your latest album release "Tessitura"! How was the overall production of this album? Sure! The word "tessitura" is a musical term that represents the range of notes in which a singer is most comfortable and sounds the best--not necessarily the upper and lower extremes of that singer's range. So, I thought "Tessitura" was fitting as a name for our debut EP since this was the first time in my life I actually felt comfortable showing my original music to the world. The reason why I've released any music at all is because last year, I happened to meet a producer from Capitol Records who had heard of me (as a violinist), and after we became friends, he insisted on hearing my original music. When I finally gave in (after refusing many times lol) and played him a demo of "Stars," which is now the first track on the EP, he convinced me that the vocals and the song were great, and that I should complete and release a full EP. I figured he knew what he was talking about, so that's what I did! I wrote and funded the EP totally by myself without any further help from him or any other producers, and thus produced the EP myself, as well. I always had a very clear idea of what I wanted the songs to sound like, and basically just did my best to get the music to turn out how I imagined it all inside my head. My music is very electronic, but not in terms of EDM--it's synth-based, and towards the alternative/goth/industrial side of things, since I'm heavily influenced by Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode; however, because I'm also a classically-trained pianist and violinist, there are a lot of cinematic and symphonic elements, as well. Finally, the lyrical content is very much singer-songwriter, especially since I have a very breathy, low, and soothing voice. So, the end result, as far as I can tell, is more trip-hop than anything else, which is what has caused many fans and reviewers to draw comparisons to Portishead and Massive Attack, both which bands are also major musical inspirations for me. As a pianist, it was natural for me to play all the keyboards and program all the MIDI. I was already familiar with Logic Pro X as a DAW, since I frequently complete remote violin recordings at my home studio. For the same reasons, I wrote, arranged, and played all the strings at home. Next, I brought my wonderful friend Mike Diggs (The Gutter Daisies, The Puscie Jones Revue; IG: @mikeondrums) into the studio to play live drums for the whole EP (except for "Something To Believe," on which he programmed drums), and then on track 4, which is the most upbeat track on the EP, I had the amazing Jake Faun (DNCE; @jakefaunmusic) send guitar parts from his studio in England, and Ricky Berger (IG: @rickybergermusic) played the flute at Ali's. I had given them all some general thematic guidance, but of course, since I trusted their musical expertise as top musicians in their respective fields, I let them run wild with their own ideas. I always believe you should let musicians who play the instrument you're wanting in the song to create their own parts--they know what will sound best, far better than you would. Then, one of my original band mates from the first rock band I ever played in, Ali Nikou (IG: ali_nikou_music), is now a successful mixing engineer, so I had him mix the tracks for me. We worked side by side for months, and it's really a miracle that he didn't murder me lol as I was so incredibly particular about every detail on the EP. Finally, Andrew Balogh mastered the EP. The whole process lasted from June through early October, and it was essentially non-stop daily work--probably 12-17 hours a day. My entire life had come to a halt in order to accommodate the EP! But in the end, i'm very proud of what we managed to accomplish, totally independently and without outside help! "Stars" is angelic in every way. We feel uplifted listening to the sound of your voice! What kind of atmosphere are you going for when curating songs like "Stars"? Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments about this song! I had intended for "Stars" to have an overall soothing, dreamy feel since it was created while thinking of how, when lovers are separated by distance or time, one will often wonder if the other person is thinking of them, so reassurance is key--and that is reflected in a vocal melody that is centered around just a few notes to represent stability and safety. But even when on the other side of the world, if you look up at the sky, there will eventually be visible stars--the same stars that the other lover sees wherever he/she is. So, it occurred to me to write about that constant in the sky, visible from any place on earth, that can make you feel as if you're closer to your loved one--and that as long as that person doesn't look away from the sight of the stars, perhaps you can imagine that his/her gaze is reflected in that light right back into your own eyes. So, I created a lot of swirling, ambient sounds using synths to hint at the presence of the cosmos, with some shimmering twinkles here and there to represent the light of the stars in the sky. The introductory mournful solo violin is like the voice of one lover calling out to the other, and it's answered later in a variation of the same melodic theme, like the other lover would in his own words. The lyrics also have a fairly unusual structure since there's really only one verse in the entire song (the first verse) and then the rest of the song are variations of the pre-chorus and chorus, which again are meant to be reassurances. The bridge lyrics are meant to represent when the light of the stars fades from night into day, and with that, the narrating lover's hope that her loved one is thinking of her fades, too. The lyrics call to mind the old saying, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder," by suggesting that the couple has been told that distance will only strengthen their relationship--but again, in this bridge, the narrating lover starts to lose confidence and questions the endurance of their love. The repetition of the line "I used to think we would last forever" is this lover attempting to tell herself that these words ARE true, and that their love WILL endure, but it dangles on a slightly discordant note which, again, suggests there's a cliffhanging question that hasn't yet been answered satisfactorily. Then, the final chorus combines all of the preceding elements: the soothing assurance that the stars will keep the two lovers close, juxtaposed with a faint, secondary backing vocal which asks several questions in a row: " Am I still inside your heart? Do you see the things I see? Everything's falling apart--do you still believe in me?" And then, finally, with more energy, and a kind of cool, determined resolve, the narrating lover declares what will be so: alone in the dark, she knows the lover is close by in spirit, and that she will cease to worry about it. It's actually occurred to me that the narrating lover may well be speaking from beyond the grave, looking down on the earth from amongst the stars themselves and the dark universe that surrounds them, hoping that her lover will look up at the stars and remember her. I did make a lyric video for "Stars" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY_uMHdyCMo) that hints at this, but if I ever manage to put together a "real" music video for this song, I will definitely try and incorporate that idea! "Stars" had an undeniable lyrical presence to it. What would you say is the most impactful lyrics from the track? Thank you so much again for such a wonderful compliment. I'd say my favorite lines are: "I can hear the beating of your heart, even though that we’re a thousand miles apart" and the bridge lyrics, "Everything's falling apart--do you still believe in me?" Did you happen to come across any creative blocks when writing "Stars"? How do you typically get past creative blocks in your writing process? I did and I didn't have a creative block. I actually wrote the lyrics for Stars several years ago--I think maybe as far back as 2015-2016. I nearly always write the lyrics for my songs first, as I tend to write when I'm overwhelmed with a particular emotion (usually lost love, sadness, or I've just read something beautiful or particularly moving in a book) so once I complete the lyrics, sometimes I just set aside the lyrics for years until I happen to come up with music that needs lyrics. Then I'll sit and go back over my old lyrics to see what might fit, and in this case, the lyrics I had for Stars happened to fit the music I had just put together separately, and so with a few lyrical adjustments, the lyrics for Stars just dropped neatly into the new song. So, I wouldn't say it was a block, but I just had to wait until the music was ready, and I can never predict when melodic inspiration will strike me, since it's not nearly as tied to emotions for me as lyrics are. So, this potentially years-long process is how I usually create songs lol, but sometimes the gap between lyrics and music is only a few weeks or days. There have been a few notable exceptions, however, when I've written the music first and then the lyrics appear all at once: the best example would be track 2 of the EP, "Something To Believe," which, interestingly enough, is the only "happy" song I've ever written. For that song, I just happened to be listening to some pop music (in particular, "The Outfield" by The Night Game and "Somebody Else" by The 1975 and I just came up with the chord progressions and vocal melodic lines. Within a couple hours, I had all the lyrics done. Lol, I wish I could perform all these activities on demand as the way I've been doing things isn't the most efficient, but unfortunately, it usually is best when I just allow the process to happen whenever it wants! Every time I do get a "block," which is when I have literally forced myself to write lyrics or music when I'm not particularly inspired, it never turns out well, so for me, I think it's best to just leave it alone and move on with my life. It'll come when it feels like it, if it's meant to! What's next for you now that your EP has just dropped?! The $10 million dollar question, lol! Considering the relatively new environment we're in now with the decentralization of record labels, I feel like the best course of action is to try to get as many people as possible to listen to the music, as only then will we be able to see if people like it, or if people REALLY like it. Traditionally, unsigned bands would play shows in small towns as frequently and as far as their personal budgets would allow, but my perspective is that I want to use the power of the internet and social media to broadcast the music to as many people as possible at once. I have been extremely fortunate that the few times I've reached out to the press, publications like yours have responded positively, so I am proud to say that since our first-ever EP was released June 21, just under 2 months ago at the time of this writing, we've already been featured in FIVE magazines (Yale Alumni Magazine, EARMILK, Voyage LA Magazine, Rock Cellar Magazine, and Music Connection Magazine). Our one and only live performance was given for a radio station with a YouTube channel with 1 million subscribers (Wish 107.5 FM USA on August 14, 2019), so the live stream actually attracted 4700 viewers! I don't know too many independent bands that can say that their VERY first show had 4700 eyes on them! So, going forward, I'd like to keep trying to pursue large-scale opportunities like this to get the word out. I'm happy to say that the EP has been signed to the sync agency Song And Film, so hopefully, with a lot of luck, we'll be able to get a song placed on a TV show or in a film, which would be an excellent way to broadcast the music to a large audience all at once. The short art film music video I wrote, directed, and edited for track 3 of the EP, "Gun To My Head" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3-N1U3o2jw) which is about having the courage to break free from a routine city, situation, relationship, or life that you can no longer stand, has actually gotten 14,000 views on YouTube and 350,000 views on Facebook since I released it on June 14, 2019, so that's another way of possibly reaching a large number of people. We have another performance with the radio station coming up on August 31, so I am excited about that! With so many choices for music and entertainment these days, it's hard to break through all the noise, but I think as long as we persevere, and as long as we keep receiving super positive comments from the press (like you, thank you so much!!) and from the fans, and as long as the fan base continues to grow, I think we're probably doing the right thing! So we'll see!! It's still super early!! Catch up with In Love & WAR via her socials below! Facebook Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic

Listen to “Miles Away” here and keep scrolling for our chat with Yonah Chuang. Hi Yonah! Can you start by telling us more about yourself and your upbringing into music? Well, to be honest there isn't much to me, I got started in music not too early in my life, 17 to be exact. I remember it was 2009 after a basketball game leading to christmas break, I was just thinking about what it takes to get into music and etc, But it wasn't something I took serious. However that same Christmas break I remember my cousin coming and he was on the computer running some music software that he was just getting into, and that kind of just flipped a switch for me. Literally the same day I started practicing how to make beats on a demo Fl studio (fruity loops at the time) and it didn't take long before I started to get the hang of things. Few months later, I can recall one of my brothers friend was selling a MacBook and I was interested in buying one as an investment for music, and things kind of escalated from there. By 2012 I went from only making beats to trying to sing on the hooks because that's what everyone was doing at the time, and that is what basically led to the start of my rap career. Who are you musical influences? Why? My biggest influences are 2pac, Eminem, Drake, and the weekend. These artists hit a spark for me sometimes that makes me love the art of music. For example 2pacs passionate way of delivering his message, or Eminem's quirky story telling, these things for me play a huge role in keeping my mind creative. What inspires your writing? My inspirations almost always come from what I am going through in life. However, a small part of my writings also come from what my friends and inner circle are dealing with, if it's something that I can relate to or personally involved in a lot of time writing helps to deal with the situation. What was the overall theme of your track “Miles Away”? What do you hope your listeners take away from it? The overall theme was, what I have been through and where I can from. Everyone has dealt with things in life, and for me miles away express a small portion of what I have been through. I hope my listeners can understand that where you were isn't who you are anymore, and everyone can change or better themselves and improve whatever situation they are in. What’s next for you? I'm hoping to keep consistent with releasing music whether people listen or not, I'm currently working on an album, and my goal is to have that album ready for winter.
