  • NEW MUSIC: Cold Weather Kids Debut Single “Shaken” Is OUT NOW!

Making noise out of Los Angeles, Cold Weather Kids is made up of four talented members and friends. Adam Allison and Ryan Scottie met while attending college in the early 2010s and instantly formed a lifelong friendship. That friendship would take them to Los Angeles in 2016, where they would each pursue music through different outlets. Through various work project, Adam soon met Erik Williams, who was drumming for the band Water District at the time. The name Cold Weather Kids was inspired by the three upbringings of the members, as all three grew up in places with a cold climate: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Colorado. Guitarist Chris Avina joined the lineup in the spring of 2019, and the band began writing and recording future releases. The pop punk band Cold Weather Kids just released their debut single “Shaken” and we’re loving it. Pummeling guitars and rhythmic textures start the track off to a hard-hitting start. The song hits loud and fast with catchy guitar riffs and soaring vocals melodies shared by Adam Allison and Ryan Scottie. “Shaken” focuses on the breakdown of relationships, but leans towards the positivity of knowing this isn’t the end, the best is yet to come. The chemistry of Cold Weather Kids explodes through the speakers in a true punk rock fashion. “Shaken” is a spectacular debut for these guys and we can’t wait to see what they deliver next! The track was engineered and mixed by Adam Allison at Rev 9 Recording Studio in Hollywood, CA. Check out “Shaken” here and read more with the Cold Weather Kids below! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us more about how Cold Weather Kids came to fruition? Ryan (vocals/bass) met Adam (vocals/guitar) in college in Chicago and bonded over their mutual love for music and song writing. Throughout college they would write and record songs together, and eventually make their way to Los Angeles to continue pursuing music in different ways. It was through a chance encounter at Rev 9 Recording Studio in Hollywood that Adam and Ryan met Erik (drummer), and form a musical bond that would become Cold Weather Kids. At it’s origin, the band was a trio, named for the childhoods of the three members, who all grew up in colder climates: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Colorado. The band didn’t feel complete as a 3-piece; however, until Chris (guitarist) came in to audition, and we instantly knew that he was the missing piece. Who are you musical influences? How do you draw from them for inspiration? Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, and Neon Trees; but the 2 most influential would have to be the early days of Yellowcard and Fall Out Boy. We really try to write songs and perform with the kind of energy those bands brought, but also make it our own in the 2019 music era. We love your track “Shaken! What do you hope your listeners take away from it? Thank you so much! It’s a little on the nose, but we hope people latch onto the lyrical content. “We don’t choose the ones we fall for, but we choose the ones who stay” is really the heart of the song; and the idea moves well beyond just falling for someone in particular. It’s that acknowledgement that no one does anything great truly by themselves. We’re all in this together so be wise about who you choose to give your time to. What’s your writing process like together? The great thing about being in a band with these guys is that everyone is fully capable of coming to the table with a complete idea. A lot of us are competent with multiple instruments and have great ears, so it’s not uncommon to get an email from someone with a brand new fleshed out song idea attached. From there we start picking it apart and try to identify the weak parts that need fixing, or the strong parts that may have been buried in the song without realizing it. With your debut single out, what’s next for Cold Weather Kids? You can expect another single or two towards the end of the year, a YouTube channel is in the works with some more interactive content, and maybe even hitting the road in 2020. • ALTERNATIVE ROCK OUT OF PUERTO RICO

Ignacio Peña talks new music, his next moves and Songs For The Fall of An Empire... What was the last concert you attended that wasn't your own? I just saw Bryan Adams in St Petersburg Florida Who are your top 3 new/ modern bands? There is another singer/songwriter from Puerto Rico…Rick Moon. He just released a new EP called Electric Lunch. Its pretty intrepid. He’s a very gifted songwriter. I’m not much of a metal head but there’s another band from Puerto Rico… A Million Souls…they have some cool stuff too. I particularly like the song “Vulture’s Prey”. Other than that I have been splitting my time between the Gallagher brothers and I like what they are both doing.  I Love Liam’s “The River”. In a way I’m glad Oasis split up. Now you get 2 for the price of one. Any dream venues you have yet to play? Oh yeah so many…Too many to mention. Red Rocks would be amazing. Tell us about your next release. Any surprises for your fans? We’re in the process of releasing the new album “Songs for the Fall of an Empire” which comes with a bunch of media materials. Were releasing new lyric videos for “She’s Bleeding”, “An Elephant in the Room” and “Can it Wait?” In the next weeks. The whole album should be out in the Fall. Where are you from originally and where do you currently live? I am originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I still live there. Any Vinyl plans for your new music? I’m hoping to create something special with vinyl for the new album. A sort of book with album thing. I've ever released music in vinyl and definitely want “Songs for the Fall of an Empire" to exist on vinyl. Where can our readers follow, share and buy your latest releases? Our roots are in real country music and Metal. We spend a lot of time focusing on each song to make them work in our own way. We definitely hear the metal influences!  What are your favorite metal bands? Currently.... Bathory, Toke, and Necrot to name a few. How would you describe the style of the SOSD stage show? Our show is like a knife fight, beer drinking, and Hell raising debauchery. In what ways has your newest music changed from when you first started? Well we’ve grown as musicians and try to make every record different from the last. Bringing Rob Van Natta in on drums has brought more energy to our music I feel The Feral Few represents the live show everyone has been witnessing this past year. What would be your dream venue in which to perform and favorite cities yet to play? If we’re dreaming I’d say the Grand Ole Opry or Wacken Open Air. Some of our favorite places to perform are Stevens Point-Wisconsin, Houston-Texas, and Any small towns across America that aren’t afraid to get loud and have a damn good time. • NEW SINGLE: BLOOD MONEY Kendall Rucks

Kendall Rucks will soon be releasing much anticipated new music.  We caught up with Kendall to get the lowdown on her new sound. Hey Kendall thank you for joining us.  What's the most exciting part of releasing new music? It feels like I'm getting to tell all my friends these secrets that have been inside so long! Writing is a very intimate process for me so knowing that it's coming out and into the light is a little scary. But I always know that it's gonna be good when I'm a little scared. (That applies to all aspects of my life) lol. Any personal favorite standouts from the new project? I could listen to 'Blood Money' on repeat for days! I usually really don't like listening to myself but that song totally breaks my ego of that. A bop is a bop! - as my best friend Timmy would say. 'Start A War' is like my soul song, I wrote that song about my personal experience as a woman in the world thus far, and 'PlayGround' is a fav too. Intimate and gritty. How long were you in the writing and recording mode with this new project? Overall for about a year! I wrote the lyrics for all songs fairly quickly and then arranged them with the band. Time hold ups tend to be in post production when you're mixing and mastering and getting the sound just right. Were you an integral part in the production process as well? Oh my yes! I never missed a mixing session. I know I drove Andrew (the engineer) insane but he loves me and I love him hahaha. Its very important to me that what I create is as close to exact of the vision and the sound I hear in my head. I don't trust anyone to guide that ship but myself Will your long term fans be in for any surprises? Completely! Getting with my band a year and a half ago has opened my mind to so many different genres, sounds, and influences. Having a band as the backbone has given me the creative freedom to go out on a limb, even as weird as it may be. Touring plans to support the new music? Really aiming for a West Coast Tour and a College tour for this fall! Where can we find you on line? https://twitter.com/kendallrucks?lang=en https://www.instagram.com/kendall.rucks/ https://open.spotify.com/artist/2hzvohMdqH1nkW5v9ZwLSQ #BuzzMusic

  • HOW TO GET LOST! WITH THE RADIO BUZZKILLS

If you think PUNK music is underrated and underappreciated? You're right.  The Radio Buzzkills will remind you of why you fell in love with music in the first place and why music is still the thing that keeps us YOUNG and ALIVE. A little Q&A with the St. Louis band making NOISE... GET LOST!  and why you love The Radio Buzzkills. We drove from Montreal to St.Louis in 24 straight hours and we STILL all loved each other by the end of that.  We’re all great friends, we’ve all known each other for a pretty long time. It’s a fantastic excuse to hang out with your best friends, travel the countryside and play music. Hey Buzzkills, your album art is impressive.  Who in the band is the artist? Royce Banuelos did all of our early stuff. He’s a great cartoonist. We use a fan from Argentina named Jessica Lopez for a lot of merch. Our next record is going to be drawn by Bob Camp of Ren and Stimpy fame! With Bob Camp we know we’ve made it. You list The Ramones as a major influence.  Favorite Ramones song? We had the opportunity to have a spot on the Johnny Ramone 70th Birthday Comp and we chose to do “Do You Wanna Dance”, which is a Ramones cover. So we did a cover of a cover, classic Buzzkills!  I think we chose that song because it’s the embodiment of our Ramones spirit animal. We love that upbeat makes you want to dance side of The Ramones. What is the best part about being from St Louis? It’s the murder capital of the United States so we get instant street cred. Tell us about GET LOST! Get Lost is a pop-punk concept album about finding love in all the wrong places. It’s something we can all relate too. We’ve all been in love with the wrong person, Get Lost takes a look at the most extreme examples, like falling in love with a cannibal. The goal is for the listener to take a journey down memory lane; why not laugh at our past mistakes rather than dwell on them? What's one interesting fact that most people don't know about The Radio Buzzkills? Our sweaters get stolen all the time. I’d say we have about 10 stolen sweaters floating around out there.  Please stop stealing our sweaters. Favorite opener so far? You Dirty Rat from Detroit. Great band, great dudes, I hope we can one day ride their coattails to fame an fortune. I don’t know, we see so many great bands on the road I feel guilty picking one. Actual Italians, The Rip Taylors, Hans Gruber and the Die Hards, Black Russians, Tony Rocky Horror, too many great bands have been nice enough to have us. You can only choose one to tour with...Velvet Underground, The Stooges or Alice Cooper.  Who's it gonna be? Alice Cooper. We have a signed Alice Cooper poster in our practice space.  He’s a hell of a performer and a hell of a golfer. Golf is the classiest way to curse in the woods. ANY last words for your fans? Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! #BuzzMusic

  • BLIND ARTIST WITH INSIGHTFUL VISION

Joey Stuckey is known as the blind artist with an insightful vision.  His vast range knowledge when it comes to production and music creation is 2nd only to his musical abilities and phenomenal stage presence.  We enjoyed getting to know Joey a bit more. What was the last show you attended that wasn't your own? ---JS I’ll answer this question in three ways. The very last show was a Broadway show while the band was on tour in NYC. It was “Book of Mormon” and it was amazing. Right before that I saw one of my favorite comedians, Iliza Shlesinger,in fact, I had to have a complete shoulder replacement last year and my wife Jennifer reached out to her and Iliza sent me a personal message and I even got to meet her after her show in Atlanta—what a wonderful and funny person! Finally, I saw a totally musical act, the Foo Fighters. Who are your top 3 new/ modern bands? ---JS WOW, so hard to pick just three LOL. I like, in no particular order: Austin Collins and the RainBirds, HER, and lovin’ the new album by The Raconteurs, who played Coney Island Baby the night after we did on our NYC tour back in June—cool, huh? What is the greatest misconception about being a blind musician? ---JS LOL—it’s actually really funny. Thanks to Ronny Milsap, Stevie Wonder, and Ray Charles, everybody expects you to play piano if you’re a blind musician. I am a guitar player. It always makes me laugh when someone asks, “Will you come play piano at our event?” The other misconception is that people think my ears are magically better than a sighted person. There is no physiological difference between my ears and yours, the difference is that I process audio information more thoroughly and efficiently than people that have sight. I explain it to my students like this—if you’re working on your iPad and you have 8 or 9 applications running, your iPad can get slow an behave erratically. If, on the other hand, you only have 1 application open on your iPad it’s efficiency increases. It’s like that for me. Sight takes up a lot of space in one’s mind so that all the other senses are secondary to it. I don’t have the sense of sight or smell so I am primarily listening. What is the best part of being a songwriter? —JS There are lots of amazing things about having a job where you create art for a living. However, one of the greatest perks is when you’re upset about something, you can write a song an feel better. It’s super cheap therapy. LOL Big plans for this summer? -JS We’ve had an incredible summer and it’s not over yet. We toured NYC, NJ, and Washington, DC from June 16-June 28. It was awesome!! I am headed to Santa Barbara, California, to spend 4 days with my friend Alan Parsons doing some recording. I then have a solo performance on 7/29 at The Mint in LA. The Mint is a bling pilgrimage for me as Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles both graced the stage at The Mint. I will also be attending a NARIP music supervision session. In addition to having lunch with my dear friend and fellow producer Ross Hogarth, I will finish up my time in LA by visiting the factory where the remarkable CS75 mixing console is made and will round off my LA trip by checking another MLB park off my list, as I want to see a game in each of them, when we visit the Dodgers. We will then fly to Detroit and I will be performing solo acoustic sets on 8/3. 8/4, and 8/5 at a variety of venues and will take in another baseball game with the Detroit Tigers. Then it’s home for a few days and back on the road to the AES Audio Educators Conference in Connecticut. I will return home in time to start teaching my music technology class for Middle Georgia State University. Later in October, I will headed back to NYC for the Annual AES Convention and two really cool shows—one at Caffeine Underground and one at Dinosaur BBQ. To keep up with everything I am doing, I encourage you to visit www.joeystuckey.com, read our Events Page, Calendar Page, and explore our Fan Zone. What is the greatest part about living in Georgia? —JS Southern women—lol, I mean woman, my lovely wife, Jennifer. There are so many wonderful things about Georgia, but for me what makes living here a blessing is that I am able to give back to the institutions like Mercer University where I teach music technology, that helped nurture me when I was first starting my musical journey. Vinyl or 8 Track Tapes? —JS I have to laugh. My students have heard me get on this soapbox a lot. I really dislike the 8 Track. Besides the micro cassette, 8 track is probably the worst format that has ever existed to play music. I like the sound of vinyl, with the caveat that you dust your records and turn table regularly, but as a blind kid growing up in the 80s, vinyl and I did not get along. Imaging that you want to raise the needle and place it down in the groove that has your favorite song. This is apparently hard to do when you can see, but when you can’t see, it’s darn near impossible. I can’t tell you how many times I had to repurchase MJ’s “Thriller”, U2’s “War”, and Def Leppard’s “Pyromania” because I had scratched them up so badly trying to put the needle in the groove. A rarity in the music industry with her talent and versatility, Roxanne is only getting started. Listen to “Like Suga” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey Roxanne! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How long have you been involved in the music industry? How did you get started? Although music has been a part of my life since an early age, I’ve been a professional music artist in the music industry in many different music circles for the past decade. I grew up with an eclectic mix of music which has influenced my wide taste in music repertoire. Having a passion for music, I attended a vocal program at De La Salle High School, an accomplished Ottawa-based art school, and followed my studies completing my university degree in music education, and music performance at The University of Ottawa in classical music and opera. Following my studies, I performed on prestigious stages throughout North America in classical music and opera, and further expanded my music repertoire by singing with various local groups and international artists covering different music genres including rock, pop, funk, soul, blues, R&B, afrobeat, soca, and reggae music. During this time, as I also had a hunger to write original music, I wrote many unpublished songs ranging in various music genres. Growing particularly fond of reggae and funk music, I joined Nile Groove, an Ottawa-based reggae and funk band in 2012 as the lead singer-songwriter, and in addition to being an active performing artist on the music scene with Nile Groove; I wrote and produced two albums with Nile Groove entitled “Uncovered” released in 2015, and “Insatiable” released in 2017. Realizing that I had a lot of original material in the genre of pop, I compiled my pop songs and recorded and produced my newly released single, “Like Suga” and my upcoming debut solo album “Love Rebel” at Ottawa-based Metropolitan Studios with Mixing and Sound Engineer, Jason Jaknunas, mastered at PHS Studio in Toronto by Mastering Engineer Waleed Abdulhammid. Continuing my involvement in the music industry working with my band, Nile Groove, collaborating with other artists, and of course, releasing my new music as a solo artist, I look forward to my future contributions in the music industry as well as the creative opportunities ahead. We love your debut track “Like Suga”!! Can you tell us the meaning behind the lyrics and what you hope your fans take away from this song? In order to give the opportunity for fans to interpret the song, connect with the song, and take away from the song what they feel is relevant to their own life, I won’t give too much of the narrative behind my song as “Like Suga”, like all of original music is based on my own life experiences. In short “Like Suga” tells the story of a person who is awakened by another, and longs to experience a thrilling world of love and lust with them. From an artist perspective, what’s your favorite part of “Like Suga”? Why? My favourite part of “Like Suga” is the overall complementary contrasts of its fusion of music genres and blends. It’s my favourite part because its fusion which includes my favourite musical elements of 70’s disco, 80’s synth-pop, 90’s dance music, and contemporary pop music creates a rich soundscape of music nostalgia and current pop music found in one song, and I feel that that diversity of sound can resonant with any listener. What can your fans expect from you debut solo album “Love Rebel”? Like my released single, “Like Suga”, my upcoming album “Love Rebel” is vibrant in sound and encompasses an infectious momentum of energy with its fusion of pop, dance, and techno music combining organic and electronic instruments, raw beats, invigorating rhythms, hypnotic bass lines, entrancing hooks, captivating melodies, commanding vocals, lush harmonies, dreamy lyrics, and epic attitude with the addition of a club vibe. “Love Rebel” is sure to make fans bop, dance, and hit replay. Do you have any upcoming events you’d like to tell our readers about? As a music artist, I’m thrilled to participate in many upcoming local shows in music venues and festivals with Nile Groove, with collaborating artists, and with my own solo band under Roxanne. However, I am most excited to share the following three big announcements with fans: The first is the release of the “Like Suga” official music video coming in August. The second is the release of my upcoming single entitled “Move Yuh Body” in September. The third is the release of my upcoming album “Love Rebel” set for January, 2020. Keston is a talented singer/songwriter who feels like he thrives the most, creatively, when he’s in love. A self-proclaimed Lovesick artist, Keston wanted to focus on his music and less on his love life, but soon realized that his love life had been fuelling his music, regardless of its rocky nature. Pulling inspiration from more recent artists like Frank Ocean, Eric Bellinger, and Pink Sweat$, Keston s a true performer, packing energy and emotion into his performances that will let you experience the best parts of yourself. “Nothing With You” is a flawless blend of R&B, pop, hip-hop with Caribbean and tropical vibes. Fueled by the love in his life, Keston weaves through storytelling elements of the details of his love. All he wants to do is do nothing with the person he loves. “Can we get up to nothing? Nothing’s just what I need with you” is the perfect lyric to describe this simple message. We love to seductive and light-hearted message “Nothing With You” exudes. The melody is undeniably catchy and will have you dancing and singing along instantly. Keston has an extremely addicting voice and we can’t get enough! We love his relatable tracks and effortless delivery. Stay on the lookout for Keston and his future Lovesick musical endeavors. Listen to “Nothing With You” here and keep scrolling for more with Keston! Hi Keston! Can you tell us a bit about your upbringing and how you got started making music? My mom was a hippy, and always had a song to sing but my father was my biggest influence when it came to music. He was the percussionist in a Trinidadian soca band called "Charlies Roots". Performing on stages with and recording drums for acts like the Jackson Five, and Stevie Wonder. After he lost his arm in a motorcycle accident, he came to Canada and focused on starting a family. That ment making sure I wasn't afraid to hold my own on the dance floor, and that I was called out on every wrong note I sang along the way. With music always playing in the house, I was raised on legendary main stream sounds from artist like Micheal Jackson, Quincey Jones, Boys II Men, Bobby Brown, Frank Sinatra, and many more. But it was my older sister who introduced me to the Punk and Rock world. I was hooked on what "Incubus" and "Limp Biscuit" where doing musically, and started to dive deeper into my own creativity. I will never forget the day I wrote my first rap song! It was right after listening to the whole Obie Trice "Cheers" album. He had so much energy and passion in his delivery and when I spit those lines word for word, I felt like I wrote them. Thats when I became a songwriter. The moment I knew that I wanted to do that same thing for some kid in his parents basement some day. Who are your top three musical influences and why? Micheal Jackson, Chris Brown, and Frank Ocean.  These artist all have created vibes within their music that have been attached to many instrumental and memorable periods of my life.  But more specifically Micheal Jackson for his precision and execution during his performances has always blown my mind. Chris Brown for his consistent, creative and progressive nature that has given his artistry no boundaries (and his vocal control).  Frank Ocean for his ability to paint the realist pictures with only a few of his words. Tell us about your song “Nothing With You”! What inspired this song? This song was written after what seemed like a long week of bickering back and forth with my girl. We were both in a place where we felt like we didn't have enough time in the day for all that we wanted to do and each other, and shit was building up! She literally was trying to shout something at me, out of frustration for me ignoring her, when I belted out, "CAN WE GET LOST IN THIS VERY MOMENT, WE'RE LOSING TIME!!" Was being super sarcastic of course... I felt lost in that moment... and thought I was loosing time. The song actually changed my attitude because it was my life in the lyrics, and they came to me so easily because I was living them. I was too stoked about the song to be upset. By the second verse, the song served me up a warm glass of "act right" by reminding me that we both had been going for a week straight with less than 5hrs sleep each night. At that point, I had to listen to what the song was telling me and do nothing with my girl for a bit, to refocus. What would be your dream venue to perform? A SOLD OUT SHOW AT THE SADDLEDOME HERE IN CALGARY!! WALL TO WALL!! It would be for all of my close friends, family, and my city who has been with me from the beginning.  That would be my dream show HANDS DOWN!!  To be able to show the people I love that I never gave up, and kept my word to them and to myself, would be the greatest feeling in the world. How does the music you make now compare to when you first started making music? LESS CORN BALL LINES ARE COMING OUT!! LOL HA HA But honestly it doesn't compare at all, because when I started my Dad was so strict, that I didn't have much of a life outside of basketball. That ment I was getting pretty damn good at sounding like everything else I was into at the time. Now I got my ass print etched into the seat of my sound and its getting really fun working with it, because I know that its really me now. Keep up with Keston through his socials! www.facebook.com/kestonmusic www.instagram.com/kestonmusic #BuzzMusic
