Check out “#1 Crush” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Beca! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started making music? How old were you? Thanks so much! I've always had a deep connection to sound. As a romantic-from-birth kind of kid, I’d imagine hearing music in the wind and rustling through the trees. Growing up in the Hudson Valley in upstate NY, I started playing piano when I was 5 and writing songs around age 7. I was always singing and getting my sister, or any friends who were around, to harmonize and play duets with me. Throughout school, I performed in a variety of musical groups including chorus, wind ensemble, jazz band etc…if it was offered, I was there. I also recorded a few pop demos since writing songs and performing were always my greatest passions. In college, I majored in composition at Juilliard and wrote music for solo instruments, orchestra, and all kinds of ensembles. It was exhilarating to experiment with various genres, widen my sound palette, and push my stylistic and technical boundaries as a composer. Around that time, I discovered and fell in love with the dance music scene in NYC and started creating music influenced by that euphoric feeling of freedom I got from it. And although it’s taken some different forms, I haven’t stopped since. What makes you so passionate about music? I love the idea that we each have a very personal soundtrack to our lives and can be deeply moved by certain songs or pieces that totally encapsulate how we’re feeling. Music is one of the most powerful universal languages, it can move us to do great things or just be with our emotions...whether it’s being happy, sad, or taking inspired action. It also can instantly bring people together or help raise money to try and soothe the world’s problems. It’s helped me get through a lot of challenging times, writing songs and performing them is so liberating. Can you tell us more about your track “#1 Crush”? What is the meaning behind the lyrics? We're talking about extreme fantasy here…and crazy, obsessive love. I wanted to put myself into that place where you would do anything for someone else in a way that’s completely unhealthy and show it viscerally with my voice. The late night synthy version I co-produced with Caller is dark, moody and pretty creepy – which is portrayed in the neon-lit teaser video I made with director Arthur Woo, shot at my apartment and in downtown LA. What other artists would you compare your genre and sound to? Why? I’d say my music is somewhat similar to Allie X, Little Boots, and Kimbra, as they all make a unique kind of synthpop, with some hints of Vangelis and Aaliyah. I’m also very inspired by Junkie XL, Disasterpeace, Chrome Sparks and Yaeji as of late. What’s next for Beca? I'll be releasing an original track later this summer, and my next show is at The Study in Hollywood on September 25th. I recently started producing my own music as well as starting some new collaborations, which I'll start rolling out next year. - Find Comfort In “Bad Blood” By The Psychedelic Birthday Party
Residing in The Netherlands, Kevyn van der Linden created the project The Psychedelic Birthday Party. Inspired 90s nostalgia, the poetic dark and his night terrors, dutch songwriter Kevyn van der Linden blends his personal notes with hazy soundscapes in a world he calls 'ghostly pop for the lost'. As an artist who doesn’t shy away from emotion or vulnerability, Kevyn sets himself apart in the music industry in a big way. “Bad Blood” is The Psychedelic Birthday Party’s debut release and we’re hooked. The melancholic intro sets the foundation for a meaningful and hard-hitting track. Kevyn’s dark-pop stylings and hauntingly refreshing vocals demand to be heard by every listener. As the toe-tapping and catchy beat take hold, Kevyn weaves us through his struggles, suffering and escapism. The soft guitar slowly builds to a pummeling drop and we can’t help but sway along to the melodious track. Kevyn remains raw and vulnerable, something that is much needed from artists today. He’s curated a single that many listeners will be able to relate to and find comfort knowing they are not alone. We love when artists put everything out on the table and share their true and authentic self. Kevyn van der Linden expertly takes us on a journey through his trials and tribulations with The Psychedelic Birthday Party and we can’t wait to see what he delivers next. " I was lost and completely exhausted. The world that I desperately wanted to be with had finally struck me down. My inability to pick myself up haunted me 'till the point where I was consumed by self hatred and shame. I was bad blood. " Kevyn van der Linden Check out “Bad Blood” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Kevyn, welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us a bit about your upbringing and how you got started in music? I grew up in Merselo, a small ghost-town in the south of The Netherlands where I was raised with my two other siblings by our loving parents. Music has been part of our lives since we were young. Our parents were always singing/playing guitar in our tiny living room so it didn't take long before we each picked up an instrument to join the party. But it wasn't until I was introduced to Nirvana by my Rock'n'Roll aunt Xonya Lopez, that I really got into songwriting. I felt a spark from within. Something that made me dream. And it has not left me ever since. How did you create your project name The Psychedelic Birthday Party? I've always felt gravitated towards a dark and dreamy world. The bittersweet contrast between something light and dark, holds something that is deeply romantic as it is filled with doom. I'm drawn to it. The Psychedelic Birthday Party comes from that place. It's something cheerful but also something bitter. And because I don't like celebrating my own birthday -something I haven't done in years- I thought it would fit perfectly. Thank you for sharing “Bad Blood” with us! The track is deeply personal and raw. Why did you decide to share that with the world? Sharing something with the world that is naked and intimate sure is scary. But it feels like if I don't portray what's really happening inside my heart, whether it's happy or sad, it is not pure and therefor not truthful. The same goes for when I listen to songs of other artists. I want to hear the soul. I want to feel where it hurts. Releasing 'Bad Blood' was also very therapeutic. Like I was literally letting go of a voice that was consuming me for a long time. What do you hope your listeners take away from it? I just hope that whoever went or is going through the same shit, will feel safe and understood when they hit that play button. We don't have to pretend we're doing oké anymore. There's beauty in pain. Every little thing that's hurting you will eventually heal if you give it a chance to bleed. So let it bleed. What’s next for The Psychedelic Birthday Party? New studio sessions are already taking place. I'm spending my time with the recording-duo Jeroen Verstappen and Thijs Fleurkens in their home-studio. Their hospitality and work ethic is amazing. I actually just got back from a couple of days recording with them. I really can't wait to share new material but there's still a lot of work that needs to be done so I have to be patient and focused. For now I'm going to rest a bit, watch the last two episodes of Stranger Things and head back tomorrow to the studio. Oh.. and I should probably enjoy the nice weather in Holland a bit more while it lasts. Connect with The Psychedelic Birthday Party on social media www.instagram.com/psychedelic.birthday.party

Check out “Skin To Skin” here and keep scrolling for out interview with Nimo & The Light. Hey guys! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us more about how Nimo & The Light came to fruition? I (Nimo Kally) formed the band in 2013, right after releasing my EP “Espresso River”. I was looking for a band that can interpret my song ideas in the most authentic and inspiring way. So I gathered prolific musician friends from New York and after playing extensively in the Tri-borough area, we decided to record a full length album What’s the meaning behind the stage name? After releasing my solo EP and playing solo & acoustic shows, I was looking to form a band that will be more inclusive of the musicians that were part of it, and Nimo & The Light refers to a spiritual and lit entity that carries my vision in the most inspiring way . We love your track “Skin To Skin”! What do you hope your listeners take away from it? This track is the first single / video from the album. It’s a song about a forbidden love affair between a high class lady and her bodyguard. I hope the song will inspire listeners to go into an introspective search and choose to abandon numbing and not so healthy situations they’re not happy about anymore, and make their choices based more on intuition, and passion rather then comfort or social expectation. What’s the overall theme of your new album “Don’t Feed The Pigeons”? I’d say the overall theme would suggest an “introspective view on life”. an eye opening journey into one’s habits, choices and conflicts on a personal and international level . What’s your writing process like as a group? On most of the songs on the album, the process included me writing the songs in my bedroom or my subway rides, and bringing them to a rehearsal, where we start to mold the raw material into a structured indie rock format to fit the vision. Then, as a producer, I would work with the musicians in the recording studio to create the parts in accordance with my vision. - “Head In The Clouds” By Christen Morrell Is A Beautiful Blend Of Instruments and Vocals
Annapolis, Maryland pop singer, songwriter and performing artist Christen Morrell is currently based in Boston and blends her rich vocals with truthful lyrics that inspire her audience to think about challenges and joys within. “Waking Up” is Christen’s debut indie album and has gained attention quickly with over 50k streams. Christen was accepted to study at Berklee College of Music and during her first year was invited to study abroad at their campus in Valencia, Spain. During her first semester, Christen was signed to Disrupción Records making her the youngest signed artist at the age of 19 to the Valencian Label. Her contract was for a period of 8 months which allowed her to produce her debut self-titled EP, "Christen Morrell", which is available on all streaming platforms. Christen is currently working on her talents at Berklee and has another single in the works. “Head in the Clouds” has completely taken my breath away right from the initial guitar riffs to the hauntingly gorgeous tones of Christen’s voice. In comes additional instruments throughout the chorus sections such as a brass section along with drums and a phenomenal harmony section that accompanies the main vocals. Christen’s voice is extremely talented and refined with the ability to dance over any note with ease, along with hitting the notes on the head without straying. The lyrics are written wonderfully as they flow together easily and resonate with the listener on a personal level allowing for them to drift away with their “Head in the Clouds”. I love that the different instruments that can be found in “Head in the Clouds” contribute to Christen’s story-telling ability and she is able to embed her own emotions in the song drawing a further connection with her audiences. In my opinion, Christen is an artist that is going to rise to the top quickly with the amount of talent that she has vocally as well as her ability to write catchy songs that have a beautiful rhythm. Check out "Head In The Clouds" here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? I grew up in the city of Annapolis, MD where I began to develop my love for singing and songwriting throughout my childhood. At the age of 17, I began posting original works onto SoundCloud, including a self-produced bedroom album, Waking Up, that amassed over 50k streams and charted in the top 10 of SoundCloud's, 'New + Hot Singer/Songwriter Top 50' within just a few short months. When I was accepted to the Berklee College of Music, I was invited to start my first full year at their satellite campus in Valencia, Spain. Within the first semester of studying at Berklee Valencia, at the age of 19, I was signed to Disrupción Records, a local Valencian label, for a period of 8 months to produce my debut album, Christen Morrell. Currently, I am based in Boston, MA, continuing my studies at the Berklee College of Music and working on a new single release for 2019! Do you remember what first gave you passion to create music? I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember and have always been very interested in literature and writing. Starting at a young age, I began dabbling with poetry and creating melodies to the lyrics with my voice. From there on, the art form became an outlet for me and I continued to practice songwriting with vocals and later on, piano. What is your meaning behind “Head in the Clouds” and what inspired you to write the song? I wrote 'Head in the Clouds’ when I was in my senior year of High School. At the time, I was feeling a lot of pressure from everyone to know the next steps of my life, where I was headed, and what my goals were. A line from this song that I feel really describes the message is: “Everybody’s worrying about this map in my hands and if it has a plan, but I’m feeling like I’ve got a while to live and a while to experience.” Do you find that learning about music in school has helped shape your creative process? Absolutely. I find that a lot of the material I study within my classes such as: Harmony, Songwriting and Production, has influenced my songwriting and creative process in many different ways. Being at a school that is primarily for music, I am constantly immersed in the language and surrounded by many talented musicians that motivate creativity. However, I have also found this to be challenging. I love my school and being in a world of music, but I have noticed that sometimes it can stunt my creativity. Music used to be my outlet and now it’s my homework, which can sometimes jade the flow. What are some of the instruments that can be found in “Head in the Clouds”? Head in the Clouds has mainly acoustic instruments in the original arrangement, but also touches of electronic sounds that were added during production. Tell us what we can expect to see from you in 2019. Currently writing and co-producing a new single, “White Waters” and an EP that will hopefully be released later in 2019! I have a few collaborations with ZOLA, an EDM producer, and we will be releasing another song together in the late summer - so keep your eyes out for it! Apart from these projects, I will be continuing my studies in songwriting and production at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Stay connected! I highly recommend you listen to “Strawberry” and keep up with Rucku$ for his future releases! Check out “Strawberry” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey Rucku$! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started in music? How old were you? Well first I’d like to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak on your platform. I’ve been a huge hip hop head for as long as I could remember. My dad introduced me to Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Eminem when I was around 4 years old; and that love grew ever since. My freshman year of high school is when I really explored the creative side of myself and found different outlets to express it. Such as writing rhymes in class and freestyling with my friends at lunch. It gave me a huge sense of fulfillment; I was having so much fun being one of the few rappers at school. At 16, I recorded and released my first song with my group at the time Mental Ecstasy. While it wasn’t a very good song, it was definitely a huge milestone for me as an artist. It helped me realize what I really wanted out of life. What do you do to feed your passion for music daily? If I’m not recording songs in my room or creating visual art, I’m performing at a show and networking with other artists. Over time I realized that there’s much more to being successful than making good songs. You gotta put yourself out there. Immerse yourself in the craft and brand yourself in a way that makes people wanna listen. What does “Strawberry” mean to you? How do you want your listeners to feel when they hear it? On the surface it’s a fun, smooth song that you can listen to in the car with youth friends. Maybe over a few joints or beers. And if you really listen to the hook, you’ll realize it’s motivational as well. I wrote “Bitches come and go/ Friends turn to foes/ True colors show but the money always flow” during a rough time in my life where I needed to persevere and see the bright side of things. I’m hoping the listeners can vibe to it and get something out of it as well. Who are you top three musical influences? I’d say Kendrick Lamar for his delivery, storytelling, and substance. A$AP Rocky for his charisma and ear for sampling. And Mac Miller (rest in peace) for his smooth flows and melodies. What’s next for you Rucku$? As of right now I’ve been putting a lot of energy into my visual arts brand Mxnd Fvck. It’s a passion project that I know has the potential to be something great. I create everything from aesthetically pleasing photography to animated music videos, and it’ll eventually expand into a line of merch in the near future. As for the music, I’ve been working on an EP with my producer friend 5AM Beats. I’m really excited to see how that turns out. And I’m consistently dropping singles as well, so make sure to stay tuned. Connect with Rucku$ on social media www.instagram.com/fvckruckus

Stay on the lookout for M.Lowe and all of his future endeavors. Listen to “Balloon” here and keep scrolling for more with M.Lowe. Hey M.Lowe! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started making music? What inspired you at a young age? From a young age my parents made me take piano lessons and I eventually began taking guitar as well. All through high school I took voice lessons and participated in choirs. I began actually writing songs with my dad's acoustic guitar at age 12 and began making beats on Garageband and uploading them to Soundcloud around the same time. My main influences when I was younger would probably have been the White Stripes and other 90s/00s rock acts, which still to this day influence the music I make heavily. What’s your song “Balloon” about? What was the writing process like? Balloon is about knowing a specific person will never leave your mind. It's about a situation where you would do anything for someone and they wouldn't have any remorse in letting you go. This song has always been really special to me. I wrote in in 2017 to a more lofi, stripped down version of the song that my friend Nick had produced. In the lyrics I describe an emotional situation I was in at the time involving my first relationship. What emotions did you have to channel when writing this piece? This song can be characterized by a lot of different emotions but the main theme of Balloon would be regret. When I wrote it, I thought about all the things I had done for this person whom I had admired to no avail, and I questioned if any of the effort I went to was really worth it. What are some things you enjoy doing, outside of music? Outside of music, I study film and play soccer as much as possible. I'm just as passionate about soccer as I am about creating music. What’s the music scene like in Cincinnati? I've only played a few legitimate shows in Cincinnati so I don't have too much experience with the performance side of it, but Cincy has really strong hip hop and rock/punk scenes. I've helped produce songs for some artists on both sides of it and there's a lot of true, raw talent here for sure. Stay connected! www.instagram.com/trickyethan #BuzzMusic

It also now reflects how I have change in my music from each piece of work I put out. Can you tell us more about the meaning of your track “So I Go”? What inspired your writing process? So I go was a direct reflection of a time when my funds were super low and I still pushed to get out and do the things I wanted to do. Champagne taste on a beer budget some would call it. I grind and celebrated life as much as I could not letting any obstacles stop me. Now I look over the process of how it has made me today. I still use the same tactics to continue continue to put my dreams into reality. How does the music you make now compare to music you made when you first started out? The music then, was the beginning of tons of ideas push together to make a sound. The rhythms that made me a producer continue to grow as I was inspired by other sites and sounds and traveling. I was trying to reach for what I thought my music should sound like versus making music that I just simply liked. As I have grown through my career I have had deeper richer experiences to write about which mesh perfectly with the tracks I make. Who are you top three musical influences? Otis Redding Kanye West Prince What would be your dream venue to perform? Macy Hale’s latest release “Cuddle Me (I’m Cold)” is a catchy pop love anthem. The song boasts Macy’s vocal range and emotive lyricism. With a quirky chorus and melodious riffs, the acoustic track weaves through light hearted storytelling elements that we can’t get enough of. Macy Hale’s angelic vocals add perfectly soft elements to a hard-hitting acoustic resonance. I personally love that Macy leaves her music so open to interpretation, “Cuddle Me” can specifically be plugged into many listeners lives. Macy uses her emotion and songwriting ability to create a vulnerable contemporary ballad. She paints a picture in the listeners mind of her experiences with love and we’re here for it! Based in the Bath area of England, Macy Hale is a naturally gifted singer/songwriter. She puts pen to paper and turns her words into lyrical pleasant poetry that's easily relatable for all her fans and listeners. We love her contemporary sound and can’t wait to see what this up and comer has in store for us next. Check out “Cuddle Me (I’m Cold)” here and read more below in our exclusive interview. Hey Macy! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started writing music? What made you want to record it and take it more seriously? Well I’ve been writing lyrics since i was a really young age, they were just cringe-y and childish lyrics but since maturing and learning more about music also having more experiences to write about, I’ve just grown more as a songwriter and now every day I’m thinking of new songs! I wanted to start recording because I love my songs and I want other people to listen and also love them as well, maybe they would hopefully relate to them in the same way I do! We love your song “Cuddle Me”! Can you tell us more about the meaning of the lyrics? What inspired this song? So the story behind writing this song is that I was with my boyfriend and it was around midnight and we were waiting at a bus station in the freezing cold! I said to him ‘cuddle me, I’m cold’ and he said that I should make that into a song! So it’s all thanks to him really! The lyrics are mainly about wanting a cuddle, I just love the small comforting parts of a relationship, I love hand holding and cuddling and it’s sort of just explaining my love for that! I love cuddles because you just feel so protected and warm! Cuddles just make everything better! How do you feed your passion for music everyday? Practicing really fuels my passion for music, like as soon as I get to my guitar or piano I can just practice and come up with new music for hours on end, sometimes the thought of practicing can feel like a chore but I know that I soon as I start it’ll be worth it! Also just listening to other musicians and other music really motivates me, for example I listen to Amy Winehouse all the time and just listening to her voice it’s so captivating and wow yea I just want to make music as well as she did! So that really motivates me! What do you hope your listeners take away from your songs? With my songs there’s never really a deep meaning behind them but I just want to make people happy and sort of appreciate the smaller things in life maybe? Yea just making people happy is the goal! Do you have any upcoming shows, events or releases you want to talk about? I don’t have any upcoming shows or events at the moment but I’m moving to London within the next month so hopefully there will be more gigging opportunities there! I’ve actually just sent a song off to be mastered! So that should be coming out soon! I don’t have an exact date yet but that’s exciting! With Cuddle Me I mastered it all myself but this song I wanted it to be really professional as it was the first proper song I’d ever written really!
