I was surrounded by music since day one. My dad is a recording artist and a music lawyer. Since I was young I was surrounded by all sorts of different music, Super Tramp, led zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers Bob Marley, just to name a few. I started playing writing and preforming music when I was 8 years old but I kinda lost my passion for it until I started recording rap music when I was 14. Since then I've basically spent everyday in the studio learning different instruments and getting to know the production and engineering side of recording. What’s the meaning behind the lyrics of “Meditate”? How do you want listeners to interpret this track? Meditate is about trying to help a loved one while also trying to help yourself and how difficult that can be. The story behind the EP "Abyss" tie into this song but that's the core idea. Listeners can interpret this song and any of my songs however they please, I don't things theirs ever really one way to interpret any kind of art. Who are your top three musical influences? Why? Mac Miller, Alice in chains and half moon run would be my main artist of influence. Especially since they're all across the board and I really like to have a lot of different genres play into the music that I write. What challenges have you faced as a young, up and coming artist? How have you overcome those challenges? The main challenges I've had to face are trying to make enough money to be able to pursue the achievements I've set out for myself while also leading a regular life. Another major one is trying to find the right people who will like to listen to my music, because its not always the most easily digestible thing to listen too. To overcome these challenges I've just had to keep working as hard as possible and put as much time into music as possible. What’s next for you Cam Blake? Capé is an emerging artist from Ottawa, Canada who began writing raps in his dorm room as an immigrant student. This was his way of coping with a multitude of life struggles in which includes homesickness, anxiety, college stress, and more. He prides himself in referring to himself as the student of the game. This is evident in his different fusions of hip-hop, from a modern take on 90’s old school jazz-infused vibes and more. The moment the beat transitioned in “Outtactrl” I just knew Capé was about to snap! And he did exactly that. Capé goes crazy and it was so overwhelmingly hard-hitting you were just mesmerized throughout. Capé’s lyrical ability and delivery were INSANE. His flow was incredible. The way he switches his entire articulation while keeping a high level of energy was just cultivating. Capé wordplay is something remarkably interesting. He hits every bar and every line with intense electricity. The punchlines and charisma shown was fire! Capé is what I can label an MC. he’s not like these other rappers who can possibly only deliver one specific genre of rap. (Trap, lo-fi, etc.) he has a lyricist element to his artistry in which evokes the thought of diversity. What else could Capé do as a rapper? You’re instantly highly invested into Capé and this is a great indicator of a newly generated fan. After listening to “Outtactrl” you’re instantly longing for the next hit. As a kid growing up in the middle east i was always around different types of music, Whether it was Hip hop, Arabian music, and even classics such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and many others. I was always intrigued by all types of music and definitely an avid listener of hip hop since a very young age. My interest in making music only started during my second year of Engineering at Carleton university. Who would you consider some of the greatest that you look up to as a rapper? I study all kinds of hip hop but my earliest memory of my relationship with hip hop would be me bumping The notorious B.I.G nd Eminem on my school bus as a 6th grader. As i learned more about the genre and got invested into it I found myself looking up to rappers like Kendrick lamar, J.Cole, Logic, Biggie, and Nas. I'd say these are the rappers i look up to most. Let’s talk about “Outtactrl”. If you can highlight the main theme behind this song, what would it be? This song is 2019's anthem for any underdog. It's the single of my debut EP, "Genesis". As a rapper, what are some challenges you face in writing a hit? One of the challenges that i find is sometimes an idea can take months to fully grasp and write about. Another challenge that i find that i'm sure many other artists can relate to is second verse syndrome! Trust me it's real. Second verses can be challenging sometimes after you finished the other parts of a song. I believe the best songs could only ever be finished organically. In what ways have your transitions in locations from Metro Detroit and South Florida impacted your music? Hi! Thank you so much for interviewing me! Well in general I have always written pretty emotionally heavy songs. It’s my therapeutic way of processing emotions.  The interesting thing about moving to Florida is that the music scene is a lot different here than in Detroit. People around here are just much happier. Probably because of the weather. That’s why I’m here! I’ve been more focused on cover gigs lately and raising money to release this music so I haven’t spent much time tapping into my creative side. But you are the first to know that I finally wrote a song the other day! It needs a bit of tweaking. But strangely enough it did not take the happier tole I expected lol. I guess you stick with what you know. How would you describe the perfect setting for you to write a song? How do you get into the mood? Hmm...the perfect setting...first and foremost I have to be completely alone. No distractions. I like a very quiet and peaceful environment. Depending on the time of day I may have a cup of coffee in my hand or some tea. Later in the evening it’s probably wine. But I think usually it’s during the early morning with coffee. That’s when I’m most open to the muse. Getting in the mood is more about the necessity of releasing my feelings as opposed to “getting in the mood”. It hits me usually out of the blue like an itch. If I have to be somewhere it can be dangerous because if a song wants to come out it has to on it’s own terms. I usually have no say in the matter. Let’s talk about “See Me Cry” ! what was the major theme behind this song? The main theme behind this song is being in a relationship with someone who takes you for granted and really doesn’t care about you. They play mind games and make you feel crazy and you don’t know how to feel or if what you are feeling is right or wrong. What emotion did you have to embody while creating “See Me Cry”? What was the most challenging aspect of it? This song is actually quite a few years old. It was written at a time when I was in a very one-sided relationship; if you could even call it a relationship. It was all about him and his needs and I pretty much meant nothing to him unless he was lonely or bored. I was young and naive. I thought he would change. He never did. I became a crazy person and never knew if I was coming or going. And he would always say “I don’t want to see you cry”. So this song was a combination of anger and sadness put together. I don’t think this song was challenging to write other than just feeling what I was feeling. This is the perfect example of the muse coming to me on it’s own terms. I had to be somewhere and right before I left the house this song wrote itself within a matter of minutes. I know a song is finished when I feel a huge sense of relief afterwards. I usually break down and bawl my eyes out. Then I know I got it out. That happened with this song. That was a little inconvenient having to fix my make-up before I left for the evening. What’s next for you Julie Haven? Next! Well I hit the road next week for a summer tour up to Michigan for a couple of months. It will be nice to reconnect with my family and friends up there and play some shows at the venues I love. Then I have a second single being released on July 12th called “Love and War”. I’m very excited. I love that song. Then on August 16th I have a 4 song EP coming out including these two songs. Later in the year or early next year I have a full length album being released as well. So lot’s of fun things ahead! Can you tell our readers more about when you started getting serious with making music? Well I didn’t really take music seriously till just recently. I moved out of Trinidad back in late 2014 and came to the suburbs in Brampton and even though that in its own had its problems and struggles, it was still easier than when I was in Trinidad so I felt like I never really had a reason to rap because my style comes from a heart of pain and struggles but when I moved it was like there’s not much struggles anymore so why should I rap Buh then I started talking to one of my dawg name Christmas who died last year and he told me like it don’t matter if I moved because I can’t forget about the people who we know that died around us, what about the city, what about my other nighas that still tryna make it out, what about the dawgs that doing time and prolly won’t ever see their families again. We all like family so I owe it to them to tell our story no matter what and so that’s what I did and still doing. I’ve lost too many people in these past years and music was the only way I could cope with it while speaking about how I feel. Besides, when I freestyle and rap with my nighas in Brampton and Toronto they always telling me to get serious with it and I guess they all see some I didn’t. Who are you biggest musical influences? Some of my biggest musical influences would have to be Mobb deep, Nipsey hussle and 50 cent. I don’t really have much musical influences because most of it sounds the same to me. Can we expect more collaborations in the future? I have a couple in the safe and some in the works. I have one with danii who’s also from my city in Trinidad and that’s fina be a banger so look out for that. Will you be releasing any solo projects you want to mention? Solo projects right now are a priority for me and I have a couple that I’m hoping to drop before the end of the year. Don’t wanna speak on them too much, but just know when they drop you won’t wanna miss it. What’s next for you Pablo? Right now I’m working on mastering my craft and my music, hopefully by next year i plan on doing some shows and getting on the road so I could expand my audience.
