- Aamalii Released His Record, “Been About You"
Hailing from Houston Texas, the local Birmingham artist, Aamalii has always been musically gifted. Ever since a young age, Aamalii began his footing as a drummer and creating dissonant sounds on the piano. Throughout the course of his musical career, Aamalii aims to win over the hearts of his music lovers from all different walks of life. Aamalii released his single titled “Been About You”, and the ironic thing about listening to this single, was how the lyrics coincidentally related to my current life situation! There’s nothing we love more than an artist who can personally connect with his listeners. Becoming intertwined with a song, its meaning, and the lyrics is what’s the most beautiful feature of music. The beat was super wavy and just bounced along the vibe of the record. My favorite quality about the beat however, was the enticing electric guitar, striking a different chord to create a rock star appeal to the trap R&B beat. This gave a new dimension to “Been About you”, while sticking to a raw R&B feel. This passionate R&B feel could be credited to Aamalii’s soulful and unique vocals. “Girl I been about you, yeah I been about you”, was the hook you will find yourself naturally repeating and singing, whether you like it or not. Aamalii has a detailed way of making his listener feel like they’re apart of the song and that’s exactly what every artist should aim for! By any means necessary, music should be a personal journey for listeners to tread on. It’s the artist's job to create the path, Aamalii creates and truly paves the way! Shelby Olive is the next artist we’re presenting to you BuzzMusic listeners, and we know you’ll have a soft spot for this young artist. Shelby Olive is truly an artist—we see this in her ability to combine so many differing aspects of music together, and making it blend to such harmony. We can’t say many artists can do this, or even do it successfully, as it can be quite difficult to truly blend total opposite genres together, but Shelby did it, and she succeeded at it. We love the diversity in her music! Her music makes us feel tranquil—at peace even. She exhibits the best elements of singer/songwriter, no doubt. Creating music from such a young age, Shelby impresses us with her expertise and overall production in her music, especially in her new EP “Bad For Me”. Shelby's vocalism is incredibly pure and soft. Her voice glides across your ears like literal silk. We’re obsessing over how natural her rhythm and tone is—nothing about this song sounds fabricated, only authenticity at its best! “Better Off” caught our attention right upon listening, and we know you BuzzMusic listeners will agree that the sound of her voice is extraordinary. Stay on the lookout for new releases and exciting updates at www.shelbyolive.com Check out “Better Off” here, and continue reading for the artists exclusive interview. Hey Shelby! Please let our readers know a little bit about yourself as an artist! I fell in love with musical theatre at a really young age and started writing music when I was 12. I got my first ukulele for Christmas in 2009 and the rest is history. I spent 5 years as one half of the ukulele duo, Recipe of Life, and branched off with my own solo project in 2015. That same year, I was diagnosed with vocal cord damage and underwent surgery and therapy in order to save my voice. After a year of recovery, I released my debut solo album, Make Sound, followed by another single, Comfortable in Chaos. It's been interesting to go back and listen to all my music to see how my work has evolved over time. My songs went from happy-go-lucky, "love-is-amazing" to a more realistic reflection in what love represents, both in our romantic relationships and our relationships with those around us. With the release of my newest EP, Bad for Me, I really feel like I've finally found a sound that is truly and authentically "me." Your voice is incredibly soft and pure. We love the sound you’re able to create! Please tell us how “Better Off” was first envisioned upon creating it? Thanks for the compliments on my voice! So kind. The new EP, Bad for Me, tells the story of a broken relationship from beginning to end in the attempt to answer the question of "what went wrong?" Better Off is the final song on the record and it is the moment of closure for me in the story. So often when relationships end, I want to have all the answers. Questions of "why? how? when?" fill my brain as I try to figure out what I should've done differently. Sometimes you have to come to terms with the fact that you may never "know." It's a very honest song and when I wrote it, it felt like a weight off my chest. Letting go of the baggage in a relationship is so much easier said than done and I wanted Better Off to feel like release of all that baggage. What was your personal favorite part of curating “Better Off”? My favorite part of creating "Better Off" was definitely the moment I first brought it into the studio. I wrote "Better Off" in a matter of just a couple hours a few days before the studio session was booked. Because it was so last-minute, I didn't have a lot of time to develop it on my own in my little makeshift bedroom 'studio' setup. I knew what I wanted it to sound like in my head, but it wasn't until my producer and I joined forces that it really came to life. It was pretty magical, if I'm being honest. The way it builds in the final mix is exactly how I envisioned it in my head. The guitar, the drums, the driving melody... "Better Off" is about moving on and letting go and I really feel like the production encompasses that. If you could collaborate with any mainstream artist for a remix of “Better Off”, who would you choose? AH! Such a hard question!! It'd be amazing to hear my role model, Sara Bareilles, belting out the final chorus in my song. She's about as good as it gets. If we're talking specifically collaborating on "Better Off", I'd also love to hear Damien Rice's rendition of it. He knows how to build a song! His voice is so raw and he's just as good live as he is in studio. For some of my other songs, such as "Spin Me Around" or "Something I Regret," I'd totally collab with Lake Street Dive or Emily King. They're both amazing and full of so much soul and groove. All that said, I'd be up for collaborating with any artist, really. I love collaboration and I think it makes me a better artist in the long run. After your vocal cord surgery, what was the hardest part about recovering with your voice? The hardest part about recovering following my vocal cord surgery was most definitely learning and practicing patience. My voice was my livelihood. At the time, I was a junior in college majoring in music education. I was singing daily in private lessons, with choirs, and with the jazz orchestra. Not to mention the 1-3 hour solo gigs I had almost every weekend. I had to put so much of my life "on hold" in order to save my instrument. Following surgery, I wasn't allowed to talk for 1 whole month and I couldn't sing for 3 months. Once I did start singing again, it required weekly therapy, rehabilitation, and rest. But most of all, the entire process required an abundance of patience! Stay connected with Shelby Olive through her socials! - Fragile Air Gives A New Vibe With “Green Ice Exposed”
Nicholas Green aka Fragile Air is an artist from Guelph, Ontario who has spent the past 12 years experimenting, tinkering, collecting and curating tracks largely in GarageBand '08, but more recently has gotten into the world of analog synthesizers & sequencers as he explores darkwave and synth-wave. Fragile Air gave us a banger we weren’t prepared for. The uniquely executed release of his latest single “Green Ice Exposed” had us completely shook! What attracted me to “Green Ice Exposed” was the instant head-banging and aggressive bass. It just smacks you hard across the face and you realized you’re officially listening to this unreal track! Besides the bass having a sense of aggression to it, the unique synths and sequencers were so intricate and detailed it added a detailed element to the track. I personally love listening to expert beats and quality production material. They’re the foundation of every successful song. Therefore, a lively beat with a unique artist to add a story line to it is remarkable. Fragile Air breathes life into a melancholic mood with a dynamically produced track like “Green Ice Exposed”. The sound arrangements and style were a clear representation of the dark-wave aesthetic Fragile Air is used to. “Green Ice Exposed” was nonetheless, a well-executed track! Listen to "Green Ice Exposed" here and read more with Fragile Air below in our exclusive interview! Welcome to BuzzMusic Fragile Air! Tell us about your background and growing environment!? In what ways were you impacted by your upbringing? Thanks for having me! My dad was a jazz pianist, so there was always a piano in the house. He would frequently show me how to play music I was listening to on the piano, just from hearing it once. If I'm honest, I didn't and still don't totally get a lot of jazz. There are elements I like, but my Dad and I never listed to the same music (my Mom introduced me to the Beatles, which was lift-off as far as exploring music was concerned). After awhile, though, I waspicking out the notes & chords myself that I was hearing and trying to figure out what I liked so much about them. I paid attention to how the chords were put together and how they were able to play them so easily via inversions, etc At one point, my parents actually thought I was tone deaf after hearing me sing. This was some of the worst news I could hope to get, as singing was and still is absolutely one of my favourite things to do. After that, I made an effort to sing as much as I could, wherever I could and I actually noticed myself getting better, bit by bit until I actually liked my own voice! What are some of the most challenging aspects you face in producing a track? How do you manage to overcome these obstacles? The hardest thing for me to tackle when producing a track is probably knowing when you're done. I try to keep things down to on the essentials I need to get the track across, but I often can't help gilding the lily and throwing extra beats or countermelodies on top just because I've thought of one. The other tricky bit is that I am allergic (probably to a fault) to doing a run of the mill beat or chord progression. I will try to make it complex almost for the sake of it if I feel the track is 'too easy', but sometimes I gotta get out of my own way. When creating “Green Ice Exposed”, did you have a specific vision for this song you were hoping to translate? This song is actually my first one I've released that has any 'live' playing on it. I am normally very structured and preplanned with how my tracks go, but in this one I laid the bass and beat down and had this awesome arpeggiated synth line. I wanted the synth to feel like it couldn't be contained & like it had a mind of it's own, so i went through the track while constantly changing up the filter the resonance to get this feeling that you can never quite get the synth to settle into a groove. What was the inspiration for “Green Ice Exposed”? I wanted to really get the slowburn feeling of a hard beat with a roaring bass underneath & a relentless synth. To give off the impression of a really dense groove without ever settling into it, and then getting out of the track before you even know what's happened. How do you plan on elevating your next song from this seemingly perfect hit? Well, it's going to be back to the lab and seeing if I can find those new synth tones. I've recently picked up a polyphonic FM synth which has some incredible sounds I'm going to be mixing in with what I've already got. Looking to create some intricate rhythms and strong melodies going forward! Keep up with Fragile Air through his socials! Instagram: www.instagram.com/fragileairmusic #BuzzMusic

I’m adding “Ain’t Playing” to my summer playlist and I highly recommend you do the same. Stay on the lookout for JoJo2amazing! Check out “Ain’t Playing” here and read more in our exclusive interview below! Hi JoJo2amazing! Can you start by telling us how you picked your stage name? Well for starters, my actual name is Joel.. So, JoJo2amazing is literally just a combination of what I've heard from as far back as high school. But the name was definitely heavily female oriented. And what I mean by that is how those names were given. In general Jojo is something I've heard from as far back as 8th grade. The baddies in the school used to called me this, so yeah.. I decided to run with it, but the "Amazing" part, Is actual a little more secular. In regards to a "thats what she said" type of way ;) Not to mention my boy / best friend, his stage name was "2fresh" so instead of just "2amazing" I went with "JoJo2amazing".. But for short, u can call me Joel, JoJo, or just 2amazing.. either or is fine. Can you tell us about your writing process and where you find inspiration to write? Since as long as I've known, I always had a love for English. I actual had dreams of being an English teacher in another alternate reality. But the love I had for writing was evident. I was the Class Clown back in the day, and always was super sarcastic.. I was that guy that would correct your grammar while you were mid speech. So I just found a way to actually utilize my love for the english language. As for my style of writing.. My writing style is heavily influenced by none other than Lil Wayne. I mean come on that man is a GOAT.. His rhyming schemes were always impeccable. I mean the way he would rhyme the middle word and last two words in every sentence was mind blowing. I don't want to give away the whole formula but man, the influence this one guy had on me musically is 2nd to none. What are some challenges you’ve faced as an artist and how have you overcome them? We all have obstacles we have to climb.. But I will just focus on one challenge any upcoming artist has to deal with. One challenge that I'm still struggling with to this date. And that is financial funding!!!!!! Do you know why there is this narrative that "rappers sell drugs"? Its because 9 times out of 10. That rapper has come from a place of poverty, where all odds are stacked against him/her. Getting / finding a job is almost hopeless. Let alone finding one that allows you to take care of yourself and pay for your dreams is almost impossible. This is why most rappers end up doing what ever it takes to get the money for their dreams.. Because at the end of the day it all comes down to funding, and how you are using that funding to get further in your career. Remember "What you put in, is what you get out" What are three things you’d love for the fans and readers to know about you? 1. I will bring generational change.. I am not just rapping to rap or for fun. I am doing it as a means to make the financial moves I have planned ahead. 2. WE ARE ALL EQUAL 3. I am not doing anything for me, I do everything for WE For someone who has never seen your live performance, how would you describe yourself? I can describe that with 2words.. STAGE PRESENCE. I'm actually not the type to move or dance around a lot. But just know, you don't need that to have stage presence. My role model in terms of performing is Jay-z. Talk about someone who doesn't move much but you feel every one of his performances. Sometimes less is more. But nonetheless regardless of how much motion is inputted or not. One thing is for certain.. I give my absolute all and you WILL FEEL EVERY SECOND OF THE PERFORMANCE. 100 Stay connected! Instagram: www.instagram.com/jojo2amazing #BuzzMusic
- Five10 Foss Kills It With “Rich”
Established as “The Breath of the West”, Five10 Foss is on the rise to becoming a major force to be reckoned with in the urban music scene. At the early age of 14, Five10Foss was introduced to a microphone and the studio, and from that point on, music has served as the instrument to his life. Five10 made his first recorded debut in 2002 as a member of PointBlank. Alongside group members Tre Mak, Krytykal and Robb Cole. The group released PointBlank: “The Takeover” in 2003. The group created a major buzz with undeniable talent. Five10 maintained this buzz he created for himself by collaborating with other artists and doing mixtapes. Five10Foss dropped a hit that’s gonna have us in the mood to turn up while still grasping a nice vibe. What I loved most about “Rich” were the lyrics. The most relatable factor to the lyricism was the idea of the luxury in life that we all seek. As obvious as it is, many people would like to attain the “Rich life” or even simple success. Five10 played with that theme by enhancing the motivation in their listener. The vocals were smoothly-connected with one another while the atmosphere for “Rich” was chilled and laid-back. “Rich” had smooth R&B elements floating across the single that we greatly admired. The deeply texturized single has a way of driving its listener towards the motions of the song. “Rich” was a finely-tuned and well executed hit song that represents the fun in today’s current culture of urban music while remaining substantial enough for lovers of true poetic music. We can't wait to see what Five10 Foss delivers next! Check out "Rich" here and read more in our exclusive interview below! Thank you for sharing your music with us Five10! Who were some of your musical influences growing up? In what ways were you inspired? Your welcome. Growing up my musical influences was Pac, E-40, Richie Rich, Too Short, Dru Down, Yukmouth, Master P, Jadakiss and Dmx. They all inspired me in different ways. But mainly the way they carried themselves on and off the mic. Character means alot. What’s one of the major differences you find to be more beneficial for you working as a solo artist opposed to in a group. Well as a solo artist everything is all you oppose to being in a group where you have different opinions, ideas etc. I enjoy having the freedom to express myself anyway I like on tracks without having anyone's input. I find myself writing more now than when I was a group. Let’s talk about the single “Rich”. What was the motive behind this release? The motive behind the rich single is to let my fans into my world. When I wrote the track I was going thru some financial troubles at the time. The same troubles we all go through in life. So I wrote about it. Rich is a mini story of where I was at, what I was going through and where I wanna go! In what ways does the lyrical arrangement of “Rich” reflect the theme of the song? Good question. The first verse talks about how my hard work has paid off and now I'm successful. The second verse goes back to when I was broke. And talks about the everyday struggle , leading up to success. So basically I'm saying now that I got it, don't forget there was a time that I didn't. And stay humble. What’s next for you Five10? I have lots a new music and videos to release. I'm in the studio now working on an EP that I plan on releasing in 2020. I'm also working on a few mixtapes. The powerful dynamics and intricate elements of the song boast the true roots of rock n roll. Scarecrowz leave us fueled up and craving more! Stay on the look out for this incredible band! Listen to "Octane" here and scroll down for our exclusive interview with front man Ger Madden! Welcome, Ger! We love the name, Scarecrowz. What was the vision behind it? When I formed the band with our bassist at the time, we wanted to have it represent something visually. We are both big KISS fans and thought of things that were related so Kiss, Halloween, Scarecrowz. The bassist was also an Iron Maiden fan and thought of a Mascot, but we didn't want to copy that singular concept and eventually decided on the team/gang theme like the movie "The Warriors" meaning. All for one and one for all! As a band, how do you manage to fuse together the multiple different personalities and opinions into one brand and unit? Boy, that's been a minefield, but we've been able to navigate that. Can't say we haven't had some casualties on the way, but being the only original member left, I been able to manage to weather through the personnel changes. It's important to draw on people's strengths so that when we get things done and leverage it is so that it benefits the team to move forward. When it comes to opinions, everyone is entitled to one. Just like a vote though, we need to settle things democratically. I guess being the leader, I have veto powers, but I rarely use that authority. I'd rather hear and consider everyone's input before a decision is made and 9 times out of 10 it's the right one because of it. Talk to us about this kickass hit, “Octane”. What was the theme behind the song? Well, I thought it was kind of obvious (LOL), but it's really about whatever fuels you. We made reference to speed, cars, etc. because it is easily identifiable to everyone. I mean, it's a pretty driving tune so just made sense to use that connotation or association. So much so that it literally became the theme for our latest album, "Refuel" since there is a car on the cover. What was the most challenging aspect of creating “Octane”? In what ways were you able to overcome this? Well, maybe the recording. We took several stabs at it as some band members weren't happy with it. Maybe with some of the frustration, it showed in the version that came out. I think when we lost one of the band members during the recording process, we didn't feel as tied down as much so like anyone who is tenacious, we hunkered down, barreled on through and came out the other side with a product we were truly happy with. What’s next for you Scarecrowz? Any exciting upcoming performances!? Yes, since our lineup was revamped last fall, we started to book a few select shows including into this year. We are mainly focused on writing and demoing new material as we've been pretty busy with that so far in 2019. Plan is to enter the studio before year's end and have something out in early 2020. People can check out all our happenings at www.scarecrowz.ca. Shit happens when you're busy making plans so we'll see what the year brings, but we're having a good time, getting along famously, everyone respects each other and at the end of the day that's all someone can ask for! - Nexu Guzman Gives Us A Vibe With His Hit Song “829”
An upcoming artist all the way from Elizabeth, New Jersey who pulls the heartstrings with his love songs as well as exercises your mind with exceptional bars, Nexu Guzman attempts to perfect his craft with each lyric in every song. With not a single bar or verse to sacrifice, he constantly delivers on wax. For me, there’s nothing like a good acoustic guitar adding a melodic effect to a hip-hop track. Nexu Guzman showcases the mellifluous and sweet canorous melody through the background instrumental fusing with a kick-back bass and a good rooted hype beat. These combinations may sound far-fetched from one another, but the result is incredibly astonishing. Nexu Guzman is a highly talented individual. With key consistent vocals, Nexu Guzman doesn’t only serenade his listener, but he provides his listener with a more sonic tempo delivery, showcasing the style of sing-rap. Nexu Guzman all in all creates a smooth comforting vibe and it’s appreciated in “829”. The aura of 829 was cooling and relaxed, while the lyrics moved its listener. Nexu Guzman immediately shifted my mood, doing an entire 360 due to the polished record. “829” was poised with many great elements we can enjoy and we’re thankful for it all. Listen to “829” here and get to know more about Nexu Guzman below! What’s up Nexu ! What made you get into music? Has it always been something you were passionate about? What made me get into music was hearing my father talk about my grandfathers trumpet skills. Something about music always stuck on me like it was embedded in my DNA. My passion is and always will be music. I’ve played piano in elementary, trumpet in middle school and joined the marching band in 06 till I graduated high school. Who are some of your musical influences for your style and sound today? In what ways have they influenced you!? A lot the influences stem from old heads like James brown, prince, and Curtis mayfield. The mixture of instruments they used always caught my attention. However, in this era I would say Drake, J Cole, and Nipsey Hussle are the reason I started making music In high school. Drake inspired me to get out the comfort zone and mix sounds that makes music timeless. J Cole showed me to speak from the heart and to love myself regardless of the situation. Finally, Nipsey taught me to invest in myself with other businesses instead of music. He also taught me to value myself higher. “829” was a nice vibe we loved! What was the meaning behind the lyrics? Thank you !! The meaning behind my lyrics was to show a different side of my life. Sometimes we have that one person that distracts us from reality and this song shows that. What motivated you to write this record Nexu ? I was motivated to write something different and Inspired to show a different side of me. I’ve learned that by placing myself in a uncomfortable position I can grow into a better artist. What do you hope to accomplish this year music wise? I hope to accomplish more knowledge within the music industry this year. I want to reach people on a personal level. I want to continue to compete with myself by pushing myself beyond limits. No one has to believe in me but I know as long as I don’t give up nothing can stop me. Ultimately I want to make timeless music. - A Rapper Like No Other, M.P. Released “Roots”
Madison, WI based Rapper, Producer and Songwriter M.P. has an unmatched style and delivery in his music that can reach people at their core and can connect deeply with them. His music has been influenced by a variety of musicians in which included Kanye West, J.Cole, to the likes of Kid Cudi and Jay-Z. M.P. has performed on various stages over the many years, but his biggest accomplishment to date was performing during Lifefest an event he won’t ever forget. If you take a listen to the single “Roots” made by M.P. you will become highly invested into this rapper and who he is. Why do I state that? Well the entire aesthetic of “Roots” was something quite atypical from other standard rap songs i’ve heard. The arrangement in “Roots” was idiosyncratic from other hip-hop record I’ve recently heard. The beat has a unique mix of melodic rap with hard-trap. However, the beat was actually one of my favorite parts of the entire song. The way M.P rode the beat like a smooth wave was infectiously done. The lyrics were transmissible and had me repeating along with M.P. and that’s the beaty of it. Why? Due to the motivational message I’ve interpreted from the lyrics, It shows that M.P. significantly touched the listener. Therefore, without realizing it, I noticed how much I enjoyed this song. M.P. is a unique rapper and lyricist who has an undeniable skill of talent that will take him extremely far. His music is easily digestible to a wide range of hip-hop heads. His success at this point is inevitable. Check out "Roots" here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Thank you for coming to BuzzMusic M.P.! in what ways has your influences essentially impacted your style and artistry? Thank you for having me here at BuzzMusic it is appreciated! My influences have impacted my style and artistry in a way where I want to make music organically, it allows me to weave between different sounds and styles while still holding true to myself and connecting to others. I listen to everything so when it comes to production and then writing I am trying to give you everything I am feeling in that space and moment. As an upcoming rapper, what’s your take on the current state of hip-hop? How do you hope to blend or change the wave? The current state of hip-hop is that it is alive and breathing and has many lanes to venture to. I hope to change the wave by going back to heartfelt music with dope lyrics and messages while you can still turn up. Tell us about your single, “Roots”. What does this song mean to you? How were you hoping it translated to its listeners? Roots means to me is that I can not give up because it means I would have failed my ancestors and everything they wanted and I would be failing the next generation. So I am holding tight to them and creating Black Excellence in everything from good times and even in the tough times. There isn’t enough time to break the whole song down but it goes deep into just breaking curses placed on Black people from their own families to just random people you know. But also this song represents me carrying the torch proud for my ancestors legacy and mine and the future who will dig their roots in. That is how I hope it is translated to those who listen to this song and rock with it. What inspired you to write “Roots”? Any challenges you’ve faced during the songwriting portion of this song? I am big about Black Excellence so when I make music I try to center it around being black but also being a human trying to beat the odds based on things family has done to them or things they have accumulated and I want to help break all those things so thats why I wrote Roots. The biggest challenge for writing this song was coming up with the hook I ran through at least 40 different choruses before I landed on the one I have for it. What’s next for you M.P.? What is next for me is another single coming in July, I will have a guest join me on this one. And I will probably be getting some visuals out and more singles that is the wave that I am on as now. Thank you for having me and interviewing me it is much appreciated again! Stay connected! Instagram: www.instagram.com/marcusp90 Facebook: www.facebook.com/MPDreamingLoud #BuzzMusic
