Sloan Dalley is known for her laid-back yet enchanting songs, and is an international-award winning songwriter and vocalist. Sloan writes, records and produces her own music from start to finish. “Better Half” is an uplifting, heart felt song that draws you in right from the beginning. Sloan’s vocal range is impressive and she is able to manipulate each note with such style, which has created a gorgeous sound that continues to gleam with her harmonies. She has shown that she is not just a talented vocalist but in playing the guitar as well. The way she slowly adds in each instrument really adds depth to this feel good song. Her lyrics are full of passion and love which really creates an emotional connection between artist and listener, along with metaphors that really help paint a picture. Telling a story about how she found her love, Sloan has been able to transfer her emotion into the song. She finishes the song in a relaxing tone that leaves you wanting to listen to more. In my opinion, this song is something I could see this as a turn to love song for people across the world. This catchy song is definitely one I would suggest adding to your daily country playlist as it is sure to get stuck in your head! Listen to "Better Half" here and get to know more about Sloan Dalley below! Hey Sloan! So wonderful to chat with you, can you tell us a bit about yourself? First off, I am a wife, mom, and foster mom to two beautiful 4 year old boys! They are my everything! My parents were full time musicians when I came along, so I practically grew up on stage. I sang my first song to a crowded bar room at the age of 4! I’ve continued playing through the years, even opening up my own recording studio and lesson studio at the age of 16. Fast forward to today, and I’m living the dream! Not only am I blessed to play 2-3 live shows a week, but I also get to work as an engineer in several professional studios throughout Southern California. What are some challenges you have faced while writing and producing “Better Half”? Honestly, this one flowed effortlessly. I think I wrote the whole song in 20 minutes, and arranged it in another 20. I LOVE when that happens! I think this one came so easily because it has such strong personal meaning to me. What is the meaning behind “Better Half”? I’ve been thinking a lot about my 10-year high school reunion...probably because it’s coming up soon, and I’m in complete disbelief that I’m THAT old already. This has led me to reflect on how much I’ve evolved and grown in the last 10 years, and a big part of that has to do with my amazing husband, Josh. We’ve been married for 7 years and he constantly pushes me and challenges me to be the best I can be. I had almost given up on pursuing my music dream, but he inspired me to go for it! He truly is the “Better Half” of me. What are some of your inspirations for writing music? Everything! I get inspiration from a little bit of everything. Better Half, was of course inspired by my husband. My kids inspire me to write about love, loyalty, and definitely patience. I’ve also written great songs that were inspired by a meme, or a joke I heard, or the ramblings of my dad. Inspiration can be found in EVERYTHING. My mom-an amazing songwriter- has a talent for “turning anything into a hook,” and I’d like to think I got that from her. What’s next for you in 2019? I have plans to release several more original songs and music videos. I’m also focusing on studio engineering this year. It is so rewarding to help other artist’s creations come to life! - Koli Kohler Serenades Us With New Song “Breaks”
Koli Kohler brings us a sentimental breakdown of the curveballs life brings that sometimes “Breaks” us. Koli’s beautiful soft voice is paired with her talent to strum all the right notes on her acoustic guitar. The lyrics guide us through all of life’s stages and what can catch us off guard and pull us down. Whether it’s the baseball crashing through the living room window you hit as a kid, a sixteen year-olds heart from a young romance, or the engine of your first car; as Koli sings “Everything breaks, it’s all give and take.” “Breaks” is a song capable of calming the nerves, puts things into perspective and the notion that throughout life something is going to break- “we all break”, is digestible. It’s clear to see Koli uses the skill of storytelling in her music- a skill that comes naturally to her. Koli is a descendant of the Hupa, Yurok and Karuk tribes of Northern California and of theatrical relatives on her Anglo-American side- a long line of story tellers. This young performer has graced the stage in Hawaii, open mics in England, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, France, throughout Australia, and several states across the great US mainland. Her kind and harmonious voice is now sung to special education students whom she has taught the last several years. “Breaks” is now available for streaming today! Listen to "Breaks" here and get to know more about Koli Kohler below! Hi Koli! Thank you for speaking to us. Can you start by telling the listeners the meaning behind your new song “Breaks”? "Breaks" is important to me because it is all about how everything breaks and nothing is permanent. However, with time, support and love, we can get up and move on. I love metaphors and use lots of imagery in my songs. I liked the main connection between a bunch of random situations was the commonality that they all break. Growing up what kind of music did you listen do, was there a particular artist that really inspired you to start writing your own music? I listened to a lot of 90s Country and grew up to Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks and Rascal Flatts. Honestly, growing up with two musical parents, I saw them write songs and perform often. I think songwriting was passed on to me by them. However, Shania Twain, Tamara Podemski, Sara Bareilles and Colbie Caillat definitely inspired me to be a songwriter. What kind of environment do you create for yourself when you’re writing a song? I see songwriting as "song catching." I feel like I catch the songs and they will come to me at many different random times. For example, I wrote "Breaks" while walking my dog. I think I have learned to be ready to catch the song whenever it comes to me. Of course, I also try to build time into my teacher life for writing songs. What do you love about performing in front of audiences? I love when I play live and people connect to one specific song. I love hearing why the song resonates with them. It's awesome to see a song you love become important for a person you don't know! Playing live is the scariest part of writing original music but I love when the songs speak for themselves. What are you most looking forward to in the coming year? I am taking a break from teaching and moving to Nashville! I am excited to write more, play more and focus on my music! Thanks for checking out my debut album! Connect with Koli Kohler on social media Instagram: www.instagram.com/holymolykoli www.kolikohler.com
- RELEASE RADAR: Hot New Track “Hurts Like Hell” By OAKLND
After almost a year long wait, OAKLND releases a ground-breaking new single “Hurts Like Hell”. The arrangement of indie and pop synths are incredible. OAKLND’s time and dedication to the new piece are evident. It's psychedelic vibe takes us to another dimension. The heart-filled lyrics are about falling in love too quickly, and explaining how much that hurts when you’re unsure if it’s love or not. I think everyone can relate to the poetic lyrics in “Hurts Like Hell” and that says something about OAKLND that he’s able to stay close to his audience and fan base. His timeless vocals are awakening and irresistable throughout the entire song. The lyrical depth highlight OAKLND’s multi-skill set. Shadowy indie electro-pop landscape, meets introspective, hypnotic verses. “Hurts Like Hell” mixes passion and emotion with careful control. I love the ambient-vibe and OAKLND’s dreamy west coast anthem will be playing on repeat on my playlist this summer! He’s built a fantastic foundation for what’s to come. - Exclusive Interview: Getting To Know Dylan Cohen
Hi Dylan, it's nice to speak to you! Amazing that you're stemming from Toronto where I've visited many times. Listening to 'Alleyways' brought on a lot of memories of the city! What about growing up in Toronto made you feel so fortunate and inspired you to write this ode to T.O? Hi Buzz Music LA and thanks so much for reaching out to me! I actually moved to Toronto when I was twelve years old after living in a bunch of small towns here in Ontario. As a creative gay/Jewish guy, growing up in small town Ontario isn’t easy and Toronto brought tolerance, diversity and acceptance to my life and I’ve been hooked on Toronto’s elevation of those values ever since. I’m proud to be shamelessly in love with my city, and to write a song like “Alleyways” was years in the making. I wanted to write a song that reminded Toronto to be proud of what it is today, and to take a break from focusing on what needs improvement. To me Toronto may not have the grand boulevards or the world class architecture, attractions, or transit, but it has cultural values that I think are world class. I think we excel at showcasing our love of multiculturalism, tolerance, acceptance and diversity and this city thrives on that love. I use “Alleyways” as a metaphor for those values - they run parallel to everything we do here and form the substructure of what this city is built on - they form the grid that holds it all together. As you know Toronto is a city that is always active, never quiet. do you find most of your song writing inspiration comes from the hustle of the city or do you prefer to create a more serene atmosphere to create? When it comes to writing “Alleyways” I was definitely inspired by Toronto’s hustle and bustle. I started writing this song on the rooftop of a house in a historic neighbourhood called Cabbagetown while smoking a joint when I was around nineteen. Cabbagetown sits just east of the city’s financial district and inspired the first line of the song “Town of the Cabbage, now homes filled with riches, under the shadows of the massive, Financial District…”. As the years went by I observed different little details about life in Toronto’s neighbourhoods and then spun them all together into a song. My hope is that Torontonians can see themselves in this song and feel inspired and fortunate to live here like I do. I think when the “Alleyways” music video launches this summer the whole project will come together. Your lyrics are both descriptive and metaphoric. What do you enjoy about adding the element of storytelling to your songs? I think a song in and of itself can tell a story. I think an album can tell a more detailed story, and I think multiple albums or a canon of songs can tell an even more complex and potentially moving story. I’m constantly thinking about what stories I want to tell as an artist and why those stories, to me at least, need to be told. For example, my second single “Clementine” is a real story in and of itself. It tells the story of my early childhood, the abandonment I felt and how that, at least partially, led me to addiction and self-destruction. In the context of my first album “Just for Tomorrow”, “Clementine” is just one piece of that. So to answer your question, I guess telling stories is what drives me to create. I will use whatever tool are most effective - description, metaphor - whatever - to tell stories in the most transparent and honest way possible. Who are your musical influences? My musical influences are many and come from so many genres; folk, hip-hop, electronica, world, alt-rock, pop. As someone hyper focused on singing and writing courageous, transparent, gutsy songs, I have two ultimate musical influences...Elliott Smith - since I was 12 he’s been my all time favourite singer/songwriter. I shaved my head, skipped class and cried for days when he died in 2003. Elliott Smith embodies much of what I strive for as an artist - courage in songwriting, transparency even when it’s not easy, finding hope in darkness. Many say that Elliott Smith is just depressing music even though he wrote many songs that are hopeful and optimistic and upbeat, but to their point - when someone can describe darkness in the brutally honest way Elliott did, listening to his music always gave me comfort - that I wasn't alone, that other people felt what I did, that you can make something beautiful out of darkness. Making something beautiful, comforting and inspiring out of darkness is what my album “Just for Tomorrow” strives to do. Ani Difranco - my mom was a teen mom in the 90’s so I’ve been listening to Ani for nearly my entire life. I’ve tracked her career, I know all her stuff, I’ve seen her live a bunch of times and even have her guitar pick framed in my bedroom! Ani is an icon who didn't follow anyone’s rules but her own, she has written about so many tough things and her bravery is of constant inspiration to me. What do you hope the next year brings to your musical career? I’m currently hard at work on my debut album “Just for Tomorrow”, which is due to release in mid November of this year. “Just for Tomorrow” tells a story that begins in darkness and ends in hope and optimism. I’m almost two and half years clean of all drugs and alcohol and this album strives to reflect my road to recovery. This album has a real reason for existence for me - I’m trying to create something hopeful and optimistic from years spent destroying myself, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. Other than the album I’m dropping a lot of covers on youtube, rehearsing with my band to perfect our live set and releasing the “Alleyways” music video this summer! Stay tuned and catch up with me on social media to see how it all shapes up! - MetronOhm’s “Without Without” Restores The Mind With Serene Melodies
LA's very own MetronOhm are thrilled to announce the release of their new single "Without "Without". The band can be caught performing around LA venues such as The Echo, Resident LA, Bootleg Theater, The Mint as well as warehouse and DIY spaces. With numerous local festivals under their belt including Echo Park Rising Broke LA and Chinatown Summer Nights with KCRW, LA Weekly and more, the band shows no signs of slowing down. Travelling to Albuquerque to perform in Sister and SXSW at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco this up-and-coming band has been described as “a much needed dose of tranquility in this chaotic world” by Jonathan Reynoso of SF Sonic. Sit back and relax because this mellow track is going to leave you with a sense of serenity. Hunter Craig introduces us to a laid-back sound that has us drifting away in our heads with the initial beats from the bass and keyboard. Annabelle Maginnis has a stunning tone of voice that is extremely peaceful to listen to and is complemented with comforting low harmonies from Kofi Asare-Aboagye, who also uses the Stratocaster guitar chords to bring extra personality to this vivacious song. I personally love songs that make you think about your life, question certain aspects and leave you wondering like this revitalizing song has done. With lyrics at the beginning on the song asking “How you gonna dream if you can’t even sleep?” and a deep, thought provoking question during the chorus of “What’s within without without?” this song is leaving the listener reflecting on what is already present in their life internally. Finishing off strong with Annabelle on the NS WAV-5 electric violin with the Fender Full Moon Distortion pedal giving this song a very ominous sound. MetronOhm definitely knows how to keep the rhythm going and keeping their listeners wanting more. Listen to "Without Without here and get to know more about MetronOhm in our interview below! Hey MetronOhm! What a phenomenal single! Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves? Thanks! Glad you enjoy! MetronOhm is a combination of my friends Kofi Asare-Aboagye (Guitar, Vocals), Hunter Craig (Bass, Keys) and myself, Annabelle Maginnis (Vocals, Mandolin, Violin, Uke). We perform and get informed mainly in Los Angeles, so far visiting San Francisco and Austin (SXSW) as well. This song was full of different styles and sounds, what has inspired you to create such a unique track? We wrote this song together over a series of nights. Our writing process involved the three of us piecing together different small ideas to create one song. Each of us brings different expertise to the table. “Without Without” started when Hunter presented the main chord progression and structure of the song to the group. Kofi threw in the other chord progression for the outro. I wrote the melody and lyrics and played violin. Building the composition together was kind of a jigsaw puzzle that made more sense as we kept going. While putting the final touches to the song we added production elements that we felt emphasized a feeling of exhaustion and restlessness especially in the outro which is designed to be something of a nightmare sequence. In this section, I used Fender’s Full Moon Distortion pedal through my NS electric WAV-5 violin to add a level of grit. The violin stacks almost take on the tone of a swarming bee-hive, transitioning from a dream-scape to something a bit more haunting. When did you all initially start writing music and have you found any challenges along the way? Kofi and I have been writing music together for about 7 years but started doing it in LA as MetronOhm in 2016. The two of us worked with lots of other musicians for performances but found a great fit for the group in our bassist and producer of this song, Hunter who joined and started writing with us in 2017. There are always challenges to creating though. With this song in particular, it was refreshing to have full and direct control over the process. We got to choose the location and scheduling of our sessions, pick the instruments and plugins we wanted to use and craft the overall feel for our new song. It didn’t make things easy though. Creative control gives artists a larger sandbox, so to speak. The tools and options you have expand significantly but the task falls on you to choose the right tools and select the right options. This results in hours spent fine tuning sounds, restructuring, re-recording - doing whatever we can to get the song right! It’s all worth it though when you turn to the group and say “I think it’s . . .ready!” There are a lot of questions scattered throughout this creative song, what is the meaning behind it? Ultimately, this song is about being without resources. Whether emotional or physical. It’s so easy to compare the self to others who seem to have so much. Access. Wealth. Knowledge. Talent. Time! Whatever the factor may be. “What’s within without without?” begs a big question; what really matters? To answer your question with more questions. What else can we expect from MetronOhm in 2019? We’ll be premiering a new single and music Video In May for our song Make it Last and will be releasing more after that. Stay tuned! - “Girl You’ve Made Me” by Libby Knowlton Is On Repeat And We Can’t Stop Listening!
Libby Knowlton is an Alternative/Indie singer and songwriter from New York City. Discovering her passion for music at a young age, Libby taught herself to play the guitar and several other instruments. While in high school she started crafting music and performing. She released her first self-titled EP in 2015 and an acoustic version of “Girl You’ve Made Me” in 2018 which is the flagship single of her EP that was dropped today by the same name! This song has blown me away! Gentle and soothing guitar begins this fierce and sensational single, only to be taken back by a glorious voice with stunning low tones. The subtle harmonies found scattered throughout this song complement the dynamics of her voice. With touching lyrics that are super catchy this song relates to the listener on a very personal plane, reaching out to those who feel like their relationship changed them hitting so many aspects of growing up and learning through some of life’s toughest lessons. Singing almost seems effortless for Libby as she saunters along each note with ease and clearly solidifying that this is what she was meant to be doing! She has imported herself into the song, and with each note she presents how personal this song really is to her. Remnants of Kesha and Dua Lipa have jumped out to me in regards to the tone of Libby’s gorgeous voice, and this Alternative/indie song is redefining the genre. The beat is very well thought out and continues to keep heads bobbing. If you like songs about heartache, and struggling with being in love then in my opinion this song is perfect for you! Listen to “Girl You’ve Made Me” here and get to know more about Libby Knowlton below! Hey Libby! Can you tell us about yourself? Hi! First of all thank you for the interview! I’m a singer/songwriter from New York. I’ll be turning 18 next week and I’ll be graduating from high school this year. Ever since I can remember I’ve been involved in music in some way or another. I think I wrote my first song when I was just 11 and then around 14 I realized I wanted to do this for life. This single is stuck in our heads! What inspired you to write “Girl You’ve Made Me” and what is the meaning behind it? “Girl you’ve made me” was a song I wrote with the purpose of closing a chapter in my life after a series of relationships that were borderline toxic. At first it was supposed to be a super long rant but the more k thought about it, the more I realized I didn’t actually hate the people I had dated, instead I hated the person I had become for them. This is what the song is about. Everyone at some point in their life has been in a relationship where they are willing to change who they are. “Girl you’ve made me” is actually the flagship song of my new EP with the same name. The three songs in it tell a story about relationships from my point of view. And I think to get the whole picture, you need to listen to the other two songs “Rose Colored Glasses” and “Games”. What was the writing process like for your new single? “Nothing about you stands out” is the first like I ever wrote for the song. This was supposed to be the first like of a long rant but then I wrote “used to drink coffee, now you make me drink tea” and then the vegan line came along and I realized the song had changed from a rant about them to a rant about me. After that, the words just kind of fell in place and I wrote the melody, the chorus and the verses fairly quickly. Your voice is phenomenal! When did you first start singing? Well thank you! Like I said, I’ve always been involved In music and my family tells me that ever since I learned how to speak I’ve been singing. Officially, I started making my own music around 10 and I started performing just a couple of years back in small venues in NY. What’s next for you during 2019? Now that the EP is out, I can focus on the next set of songs. I’ve been writing a lot lately and I have a couple of demos ready. I’m also going to arrange for some presentations around NY and I’ll be going to London where I’m also planning a couple of small shows. - Voice Of Addiction Release Impressive Heavy Hitting Single Called "Dead By Dawn"
Voice of Addiction are a punk rock group based out of Chicago, Illinois. This band has a wealth of experience, playing their socially conscious and politically charged music since 2004 at over 1,300 shows across North America. As an established force to be reckoned with, they have 7 official releases of which they have independently sold over 8,000 physical copies, which doesn’t even include their involvement with countless compilations and digital sales. Their music has been featured in video games Skateboard Party 1, 2, and 3, as well as Snowboard Party 1 and 2. Not just content to stay in their lane as a rock act, they even have a full length documentary on Voice of Addiction called “Punk Band” which is out now at all major outlets. “Dead by Dawn” is this Voice of Addiction’s latest single. The best way I can think to describe this song is a perfect intersection between the raw untamed power of punk and polished professionalism that only comes with time and experience. The guitars are heavy, the vocals have an unmistakable intent and power, the drums are unbelievably precise, and the pace of the song is fast and furious as anything. Within seconds, it becomes apparent that this dynamic group has a subconscious understanding of their collective sound to which each member contributes in an expert manner, which is a fancy way of saying these guys are the real deal. At just shy of two and a half minutes, this song seems to be over before it begins. My sole complaint is that I just want more, but that’s what the repeat button is for! Do yourself a favor and check out “Dead by Dawn” today, and have your head rattled in the best possible way. Listen to "Dead By Dawn" here and get to know more about Voice Of Addiction below! Hey guys, thanks for answering a few of our questions! First of all, how did you all form and become Voice of Addiction? "V.o.A. started when I moved to Chicago in the summer of 2002. A friend I grew up with playing in bands together had already lived there for 2 years and found us a house. One of our roommates was a drummer, and over late night sessions eventually songs and a set formed. This would be the first line-up. We were all in Music school and working full time so the beginnings were a tad slow. in 2004 our first self titled full length came out. I have been the only original member since 2012." You guys have a vast experiential background as a band which becomes clear the moment someone hears your music. How would you say you guys have evolved as a band from the mid 2000s to present day? "We were a lot more genre hopping in the early days. As time went on I started to move more and more towards my earliest influences and first music loves. Namely the early to mid 80's punk hardcore scene. I always describe my songwriting style as a mix of my classical training and my ADHD haha. I have always tried to push against the stigma that you don't have to be a good musician to play punk rock. Plus if I am going to be playing these songs every single night, I need to keep them interesting enough that I don't get bored." As punk rockers, who would you say your collective artistic influences are? "Fugazi, american steel, elliot smith, blood for blood, born against, the business, circle jerks, crass, conflict, dinosaur jr, primus, devo, dead kennedy's, dead millkmen, exploited, gbh, helmet, kill your idols, jane's addiction. misfits, lard, ministry, minor threat, rites of spring, old crow medicine show, the pist, pinkerton thugs, youth brigade, subhumans, the dpecials, at the drive in, the toasters, total chaos, violent femmes, woody guthrie, sick of it all, tomahawk, born against, unsane, dead and gone, lethargy, nebula, stiff little fingers, agnostic front, the cure, mr bungle, polka dogs, the pixies, radiohead, queens of the stone age, the slackers, gang of four, elvis costello, and you will know us by the trail of the dead, pavement, against me, face to face, bad brains, the clash, madness, 7 seconds, rollins band, built to spill, angry samoans, gogol bordello, dead boys, kind of like spitting, howlin joe hawkins, neutral milk hotel, talking heads, the pietasters, the mars volta, murder city devils, angelic upstarts, man or astroman, sonic youth, beck, karma to burn" You have a full length documentary, which is impressive for anyone. What was it like filming this and what can your fans expect? Also, where can we get a hold of it? You can find it in all major video markets such as amazon and vimeo. We filmed a 4 1/2 week west cost tour with no days off. You can find it from the website https://www.punkbandthemovie.com/ You really try to just act normal and try not to remember the camera is there. Touring is hard and you are always exhausted and super busy so this makes it easy to do." Would you mind describing what your creative process looks like? How do you guys figure out how these songs all come together? "You never really know when inspiration will hit. I always keep a small notebook and pen in my pocket just in case. Whether it is a theme, idea, progression, melody lyric etc it doesn't matter. The smallest thing can spark a whole slew of ideas. Sometimes a song comes from inception to completion in 15 minutes. Other times ideas stew over years until the thing that connects or makes them makes sense comes to light. most common I write them on my acoustic, but sometimes it starts with bass, vocals, drums or piano." What can we hope to see from your band going forward? " We have an east coast tour coming up May 30 - June 16 www.facebook.com/events/366350574196070 and a whole bunch of shows and festivals throughout the midwest this summer. In October we will be back out on the west coast." - Eclectic Artist DOSSEL Releases “AMNST” Leaving A Beautiful Resonance Behind
Based in Rio de Janeiro, DOSSEL is a solo project from the composer and music producer Roberto Barrucho. Roberto started into art as a child at Waldorf School and started to compose at the age of 15 years, which hasn’t slowed. His songs have played by 'Mahmundi' around Brazil and also some countries in Europe. In 2017, Roberto then started his own project (DOSSEL) that is mixed up with elements from contemporary music and results from research in Brazilian music from the 1960’s and 1970’s. DOSSEL and the partners included in this project are evolved artists, musicians and producers. He has then since released singles, video clips and in 2019 his first solo album will be available. “AMNST” is a unique, and beautiful melody that has various depths of imagination. This song requires multiple listens as there are so many technical parts of each instrument, it lures you in to listen to each part carefully. A beautiful portrait is drawn throughout leaving the mind to wander, and escape into what feels like an older time. I love how the vocals sound like he is singing to the listener through a radio, making it very subtle and relaxing. There is a certain rasp to his voice that entrances and really gives this song extra personality along with the feeling you can clearly hear embossed into the lyrics. The brass instruments closer to the end have such a powerful addition to this story that compliments the mysteriousness of this enchanting record with such emotion coming out. Each note is so precise and each individual sound blends perfectly together into a breathtaking resonance. I felt transported to the streets of Rio de Janeiro while listening, seeing the glorious views and taking in the beauty around that has been emulated so well through this down to earth tune. This is a truly enchanting contemporary rendition of music and was incredibly impressed at how profoundly the music has been presented. Listen to "AMNST" here and get to know more about DOSSEL below! Hey! Love your sound! Can you tell us a little about yourself? OK, lets do that. Roberto Barrucho (me) is a middle son in a huge family. Half Brazilian, half Portuguese, i had grown up in the center of Rio de Janeiro, really close to the carnival parties in Sambódromo. Then, because of this non-choice of listening music, in the beginning of everything, i was kind of far from Brazilian music. That was too loud for me. The streets were too crowded, i could not connect to stuffs that they were singing and the rhythms were too fast for me. After while started the carioca melody funk also really close from the flat where i lived. Those grooves in the last room glass started to make fun to me. I liked that kind of music, then me and my sisters and brothers started to make like an little event inviting friends to list that loud music from the Mineira community close where we live. My first school at 3 was based on Waldorf method, following the Rudolph Steiner philosophy, then i had contact to arts in general: painting, music, dancing, all this stimulus i think were determinant to develop my interest and mood for produce music and art. What different types of instruments can we listen for in this song? This song started at the acoustic guitar, but since the first ideas it has come the synth together, to empower the deep feeling of the lyric. After the basic harmony was done, the percussion came like a perfect ambient for what we wanted to transmit. The Wurlitzer electric piano conversation with the acoustic guitar softly as it has to be. Then the semi-acoustic bass reinforces the deep atmosphere, with the delayed guitars in the background putting everything suspended. The trombone is like a bonus that translate kind of beauty melancholy in this solitude song. What inspired you to write such a beautiful song like “AMNST”? It's about the running days in a big city. The contemporary times where we are losing our sensibility far from nature. Away from our essence and the our original force. The 'cerrado' that we sing in this song is like a place to relax, to meet ourselves, our state of peace and empowerment. Its also like an imaginary place, connected to our nature. It's about to go deep and bring to the surface our best version of ourselves. Connecting our shinning side to the shadows. Slowing down from a running life and taking time to care about us. Ending our not-thinking process, like working in stuffs we don't love, doing stuffs to answer outside requires, just because everybody is doing that. Where is one place you would love to perform? A real concert place that we love in Rio is the Circo Voador. Its from 80's and many of important Brazilian and also foreigners had played there. I lived their special moments. It has an amazing acoustic. In parallel i would really love to perform in a festival happening in the a forest. In a green area, with rivers and trees, where people could hang around there, there is some festival doing that, like Bahidora Carnival, in Mexico. I think all the background and the atmosphere would make sense and help to connect the people to the music I'm doing. What new and exciting things do you have in store for 2019? In the middle of the year, i mean, after July, the full album will be released. Until there we probably gonna make another video clip and performing videos. To the album release we gonna plan a Brazilian tour, in the southwest at least, but planning Northwest and maybe New York. I think that our music would be well reccepted in Portugal too. Just the time will say. We have this wishes and we gonna work to make it happen. The album will be release also in LP, vinyl format, cause we love analog music. The feel-good sound “Close” is what makes this record so breathtaking. You find yourself becoming lost within the song and even grooving along to the dance able beat. Each element of the single warrants its place onto the track and flows in a cohesive manner. “Close” is the perfect song to catch a groove too, and we’re sure Austin Riddle has a bright future ahead of him filled with prosperity and success in this music industry! Listen to Austin Riddle's "Close" here and get to know more about the artist below! Is songwriting something you find to be natural for you? I would say it's something that I've always been mesmerized by. I used to love the structure of Bob Marley songs as a kid and would make up songs in the car with my dad and sister all the time. I always felt like I was the best at it, haha. Tell us about your release “Close” What is the song about? What's the meaning of the song to you? This is the crossover point for my RnB and pop styles. This is just a cry out to someone I love dearly. I always feel like I'm alone in situations and I never want the person I love to ever feel like that. What inspired you to write “Close” ? I was in a situation where I hurt someone. I wanted them to know that I'll always be there for them. I wanted her back, and I wanted her to know I would do anything for it. Can you tell us a bit about your songwriting process? Do you write your own music? I almost always write the melody first. I'm so obsessed with how lines of notes flow together and lyrics are definitely a bi-product of that. When I make a beat, I have a whole idea of what the song will sound like, and whatever mood it has, decides what experiences in my life I'll write about. What’s next for you through 2019? I plan to do a lot of shows in and around the Atlanta area. I'm also releasing so much new music and look forward to hearing input from fans! I'm also releasing a brand new merch page on my website.
