- Seph Raeshan Delivers Crisp Take On Hip-hop In “Track 47”
Seph Raeshan, also know as Joseph Mosi is a talented artist from London. He comes to us with a fresh and funky sound and impressive ideas. He took some of his inspirations like J. Cole, Loyle Carner, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar and put a twist on his alternative version of hip-hop. Seph Raeshan released his debut album in 2016 called “Scrapbook Experiment”, which included the track “Summertime”, a fan favorite. Seph has been continuing to create a modern and alternative vibe since then. His latest release “Track 47” is creative perfection. It starts with a heavy and echoing bass, smooth horns, and mysterious narration. When the rhythm starts and Seph drops his first verse I was blown away! The poetic skill in his words are intoxicating and meaningful, and the catchy beat has me dancing in my seat. “Pray it all it gets better” is repeated throughout the chorus, keeping up with the heavy and important theme of the song. Through each verse, Seph Raeshan delivers flawless bars, addicting lyrics, and hypnotizing sound. This song is going straight on my Summer 2019 playlist and I can’t wait to keep up with Seph Raeshan to see what he’s going to do next. Check out "Track 47" here. Read more with Seph Raeshan below! Tell us more about your background and upbringing? For the most part, my life has been centered around London. I was born in Nigeria and did move to Manchester at 5, but most of my memories from those places have long since faded. Growing up in South East London, specifically in an African household with strict parents, has really shaped my views on life, music and morals. I feel like the blending of cultures in my life has definitely allowed me to be more open towards new people, ideas and experiences. My Parents are very religious too, devout Christians if you will, and while my music doesn't necessarily reflect that, my behavior for sure is very telling in that I don't really drink, smoke or partake in anything that would upset my faith. I remember one time I came back from a party really late, I think it was 12 ish, and they must have thought I was drunk so they made me pray for an hour and read I around seven scriptures, I really was just tired. All in all, I am more than thankful for the kind of environment I was raised in, it's shaped and built the better parts of me, so I feel lucky that God placed me in this exact place. What got you started in creating music? As a kid, I wasn't really social so I spent a lot of my time on the internet. I had a lot of free time so I just decided to explore whatever I could get my hands on. One time, when I was around 11 years old, I discovered this online music creation platform on my family computer, audiotool. You could basically play around with pre-installed loops and build drums, and that was It. Still, making the music, I kinda had like an "o sh*t" moment where I was like "yooo this is something". I kept working on my beats recklessly, and I played them to everyone and anyone I could find. It got to a point where my beats made it into church and the choir director heard one and told me I had a gift. He owned a studio outside of church and told me to swing by one time, and that I could maybe try a little bit of recording. I was like 13 at the time and very nervous so I VERY MUCH coerced 3 other guys into coming with me to the studio so we could make "a band". It didn't work out, at all. But that didn't deter me in the slightest If anything I think it pushed me to work even harder towards attaining a career in music. Coming to the age of 15, my parents recognised the hard work I was putting into creating music and they got me my own Ipad mini with GarageBand on it. That's kinda when my seriousness in music took off, and since then each year has just been a race to get to a new level. What is the meaning behind the title “Track 47”? It's really simple, to be honest. I make music a lot and while I scrolling through my projects I came to the 47th one and it was that song. I kinda hadn't figured out what I wanted the track to be about yet so I just left the name Track 47 in there as a filler. When I finished the song, I just felt like the name track 47 has a certain ring to it. So I just left it, and I still feel like there is a certain charm to it. What is the meaning behind the lyrics? I like to make lyrics personal, I feel like it's the only way to ensure your music is always original and it also helps listeners connect with you more so that's the direction I took on Track 47. In the first half of the song, my focus is on how I feel in social settings. I'm one of those people who likes to stay by themselves and not have people constantly interrupt their flow, yet all the same can still feel massively out of touch with people. It's weird to grasp, but it's a genuine feeling. The second half, is me reflecting on my aspirations and how distant I feel when it comes to achieving them. I'm making steps but Its really going to take me a while and I recognize that now. The chorus "pray it all gets better" pretty much ties up the whole song, I just want to one day feel better out all my issues and insecurities. If you had to choose to collaborate with one of your inspirations, who would you choose and why? I have been asked this question before by friends and there are just too many names. I love and respect a huge amount of artists, all from different genres, not just hip-hop. Like, I really like the 1975, their music really resonates with how I feel on teenage issues right now. Bon Iver is also an artist I love listening too, regardless of whether or not I gain the messages in his music, the way he structures and chooses instrumentation on his songs just makes them all so beautiful. Kanye West is, to me, the greatest hip-hop artist to ever walk this earth and I know so very well that I studio session with him would hit so hard, just because we are really similar in the sense that we both love to constantly experiment with and reinvent our music. However, just to answer your question, J. Cole would be the artist I would most love to work with. I say this for two simple reasons. One is that I feel like his music is so relatable; that's why so many people love his music, It's just so easy to understand what he's saying. Lastly, as a person, his personality is just unmatched. J. Cole is so genuine, insightful and endearing, it's hard not to love him or his music. Connect with Seph Raeshan on social media! - PongoFromTheS & YNLSTACKINGBNDZ. Drop New Track "Swerve"
PongoFromTheS & YNLSTACKINGBNDZ. first met in Quebec, Canada, where they are both from. They first met in summer 2018 when YNL sent him a beat pack and have been hard working ever since, as evident by their new single “Swerve (feat. Jaco & LPG)”. Their first collaboration was “Gas'd Up”, which featured fellow Quebecois artist Gump. The trio then decided to make a collaborative EP which they titled “Cruel Vibes”. Pongo & YNL continued to produce and work on tracks as a duo which resulted in their latest effort, appropriately named “The Coolest Tape on the Planet”. You can tell from their latest single “Swerve” that this is only the beginning of something much greater for these Quebecois hip hop artists. The future is bright for these two up and comers. They are truly in their element and honing in on a unique sound that is truly their own. They are proving why they have the coolest tape on the planet. Check out "Swerve" here. Read more in our interview below! Hello! Can you tell us our readers about yourself? My name is PongoFromTheS, born in Sherbrooke, Quebec and raised in Sainte-Foy, Quebec. I’m 23 y/o. I’ve been making music for almost all my life, I wrote my first song at 8 y/o. I don’t consider myself a rapper, but a recording artist. I met YNL for the first time last summer at OhGod’s crib. I’m YNLSTACKINGBNDZ. born in Abidjan,Côte d’Ivoire but I mostly grew up in Quebec City, Canada. I’m 19 years old and I’ve been making beats for 2 years now. I met PFTS last summer at OHGOD’s crib. We used to make beats in his apartment it was dope. How did you guys meet Jaco & LPG? PFTS: I grew up with Jaco, but honestly I can’t really recall the very first time we met. I’ve known him for 10 years now, maybe more. We grew up together in Sainte-Foy. I met LPG maybe 1 or 2 months before the night we did Swerve. We met at the studio. I didn’t really knew him before this whole project aha. I’ve heard his music, but I didn’t really knew the person YNL: Jaco and me knew each other from way way back because we was in the same neighborhood. We got back in touch through PFTS because they were friends. I basically met LPG through a friend. I remember him telling that he had a friend who was rapping who needed some beats and the rest is pretty much history. Who are your biggest influences? PFTS: My biggest influences are Future Hndrxx, Nate Dogg and PartyNextDoor. YNL: My biggest influences are Timbaland, Southside and Metro Boomin, but shoutout to Future. How did you guys create this song? PFTS: Man that night right before the session, I was in the ride with my brother Young Louie 103, and I remember telling him « Tonight we’re making a banger, I’m feeling it ». I’ve texted Jaco earlier that day to meet at the stu by nighttime, and I knew YNL was going to be there as usual aha. I wasn’t even in the studio when I heard YNL’s beat for the first time, I heard it through the door. I knew it’s was the beat we needed right away. Believe it or nah, YNL didn’t even like the beat at first aha. I told him to let it roll. I wrote the hook on the spot, Jaco wrote a first prehook on the spot as well, then LPG who was there by coincidence asked me if he could lay down a verse on the track. I told him « go ahead, do your thing » which he did obviously aha. It was getting late, or should I say early, and I had school in a few hours so we decided to sleep on the beat and come back the next day to finish the track. So the next day I did my verse and Jaco did a new prehook. The rest is history. YNL: I was at the studio that night with one of my homies Oli before a session with PFTS. I was cooking up and I remember making that beat so fast that I wasn’t even feeling it and then when PFTS came in I still showed to him I don’t even know why but he was feeling it. Then Jaco and LPG came through and they made a hit out of nowhere. What's next for you through 2019? Just watch. Big things on the way. Connect with PongoFromTheS & YNLSTACKINGBNDZ. on social media! - Love Encompasses Us All After Listening to “Calling”
Becoming a parent is a rite of passage, a monumental life changing moment that comes on as an overwhelming explosion of love. Once that child comes into your life, your world is forever changed; a world that is now all about someone else. Mcaiiah’s latest track “Calling” is a beautiful love song, a love song written by a father to his son. An exquisite, sentimental piano melody opens and rounds out this song and remains its backbone throughout the track. The internal workings of this song are filled within rhythmic, steadfast beats and touching and affectionate lyrics. Lyric’s like “I’ve protected you, I have held back the waves that surrounded you,” showcase the love and devotion Mcaiiah clearly has in his soul. “Calling” illustrates the all-encompassing love a parent feels for their child. Mcaiiah is a singer/songwriter hailing from Northern VA/Washington, DC area. A proud husband and father, Mcaiiah has experienced the highs and lows of life that has shaped his very honest and vulnerable artistic style. Mcaiiah is no stranger to depression and has been fortunate enough to have love lift him up and drag him out of the abyss. Mcaiiah hopes his music can help someone find solace, healing, encouragement or just enjoyment from listening. “Calling” is now streaming for your listening pleasure. Check it out here. Read our exclusive interview with Mcaiiah below! Hi Mcaiiah! Thank you for talking to us about your new song “Calling”. This song is filled with sincere and touching lyrics. What does this song mean to you? “Calling” is a really special track because it tells the story of someone who’s just trying to navigate through life, but maybe doesn’t know how. In a society where countless people battle silently a plethora of issues, often turning to substance abuse, in attempt to numb the pain, I think the song beautifully paints the picture of a loving God who wants to meet us where we are, and help pull us out. I found myself in a cycle of depression and anger and it wasn't until I accepted God’s love that I found freedom. As a devoted husband, how do you carve out time to create music? I’m not an actual father, just have a puppy haha! It’s a struggle. Luckily, my wife is also a creative, so we work together to communicate our expectations and needs, and allow each other the space to create, while separating from the art at times to focus on family. Where do you draw your inspiration from that ignites you to write such raw and personal music? I draw inspiration from my life and the life of those around me. I’m a very empathetic person so although I never try to speak for someone else’s experience, I tend to relate or connect with others’ pain. I find when you’ve battled with your own issues, its sometimes easier to connect with others fighting battles of their own. What does the ability to create and sing your songs mean to you? It means everything. Music has always been my outlet, allowing me to communicate things I'm not quite ready or willing to say aloud. Songwriting and singing have been my vehicles to self awareness and self love. Where are you hoping this year leads you musically? My hope and prayer is that my music sparks difficult, yet necessary conversations, creates new relationships and connections, and overall impacts listeners positively. We don’t all have to have to same values and beliefs, but I hope listeners can at least connect with the love I intend to spread in a world that desperately needs it. Malcolm Da Kid has the perfect tendering hit for you hopeless romantics. Check out "Dream Of You". Read our exclusive interview with Malcolm Da Kid below! Hello Malcolm! Can you tell our readers a little about yourself? Hey! Well first things first, thank you for interviewing me. I’m an independent artist coming from Bronx, New York who always had a passion for hip hop and music in general. Music has always been that one thing in my life that stuck out to me. I’m currently a college student, so I have to manage my time well when it comes to getting assignments done and working on new music. However, I make it work because if you truly want something to happen, you have to make it work. Other than that, I enjoy taking pictures with my canon, hanging out with my friends and loved ones, and being in creative spaces. I also dig fashion, It’s a form of self expression and I love that. What are some challenges you face as an independent artist? As an independent artist, one of the main challenges I face is getting myself out there into the world. It’s all about finding the right connections with the right people because the truth is not everybody wants to see you succeed. I’ve never been like that, I want everybody to win at whatever it is they’re fighting for. I just believe that anything is possible, maybe I watched too much Disney growing up, but it’s true. Tell us about “Dream Of You” and the meaning behind it!? Dream of You is personally one of my favorites. Have you ever walked down the street and quickly glance at someone you thought was the most amazing thing in that moment? That’s what Dream of You was about. That feeling of desire. The quickness to fall in love with the physical appearance of someone, but then question if that person feels the same about you. The only way to find out is by “shooting your shot” which could be a bit hard if you’re insecure. Did you have anybody special in mind while writing this love bop? Yeah, I kind of did. I had a girl in mind I’m not gonna lie. However, it was more of me expressing how I was feeling about her and wondering how she felt about me. From your artist point of view, what is the most impacting moment in “Dream Of You” and why? For me, it was the last line of my verse that was the most impactful. I said, “This love game rigged but I gotta tell the truth, I don’t really want to lose.” This line is revealing that I feel as if the game of love isn’t in my favor which is probably why I’m questioning being “the one” for someone I wish to be with. I’m also admitting that although I feel that way, I don’t want to lose the game of love because we all deserve love of course. What’s next for you? I want to drop 1 more single and 1 more track on SoundCloud. After that, I want to start working on my first E.P project. I also want to branch out and work with more artists and creatives. The friendliness presented in the record is what makes this a standout hit for us! Listen to "Block Barbarian" here and check out our exclusive interview with Chiefeezy below! Hey, welcome to BuzzMusic! How has your upbringing impacted your music? My upbringing in a rough environment from the inner city of Denver has impacted my music by reporting the facts of real life social economic issues, as well as household issues of a broken home family. Have experienced many hardships that have allowed me to express the creative artistry with how I deliver my rhymes to music. Tell us about “Block Barbarian” how does the title reflect the theme of the song? BLOCK BARBARIAN is basically a narrative of three witty verses telling an underlying theme of how I took a different route out of my rough neighborhood from gangs, drugs & all types of inner city crime. It describes how a guy grew up on a certain block & became not only in control of a popular block, while giving back love to many friends/family who grew on a one of the roughest blocks in East Denver. Its as if my neighborhood taught me how to stand my ground in certain type of situations that impose a threat to my safety & means to survive & deal with them accordingly..so to some it all up saying BLOCK BARBARIAN represents the mentality of a savage, thug, roughneck hoodlum who's also educated & intertwining the best of both worlds in anything I do in life. What inspired you to write “Block Barbarian”? The track and music inspired the song BLOCK BARBARIAN along with having a "VOICE" as I simply let the music tell me what to do. Also just having something to say about my inner city & being one of DENVER'S UNDERDOG'S of the rap game along side some the best names in the game.. Who are your musical influences who have helped shape your career in the music industry? My musical influences is a lifelong list of the greats ranging from Marvin Gaye, Prince, Michael Jackson, Roger Troutman, Run Dmc, LL.Cool.J, E40, 2Pac, Ice Cube, Scarface, Redman, Rakim, Nas & the list goes on. What’s next for you through 2019? I'm currently working on my follow up single "YOU GOT IT" along with shooting 3-5 videos & have as of recent been contacted by promoters to do several shows in three different countries all based on INDEPENDENT GRIND & HUSTLE. - An Acoustically-Rich Album, Lay Low Moon Realeases "On This Day Last Year"
Lay Low Moon, aka Sean Mckenna is an compelling artist from Boston Massachusetts who released the most riveting album we've heard to date! Lay Low Moon's new album titled “On This Day Last Year” is a indie folk collective that indulges your spirit into something compelling and unforgettable. Each song off this album plays a major role in developing the story of “On This Day Last Year”, with melodies that seep deep as you listen. The songs are rich, textured and lightly vulnerable to help capture the emotion needed for us to become hooked into the music. The opening songs, “Late July” , “All Affirming”, and “Second Floor Apartment” pave a highlight on the strong songwriting skills Sean is equipped with. Each of these songs warrant there place in the album and is an intelligent decision for chronologically placement. The songs provide the foundation and initiation into “On This Day Last Year". It keeps you anticipating on what you’re going to hear next. Every great album needs a strong opening, with songs that are chronologically placed in the correct order to execute the sound and vision properly. In our opinion, it’s like walking in front of a store and seeing the window display of mannequins. If it attracts you, you’re bound to walk in the store right? The next song “Knew” keeps that mellifluous and attractive appeal going while making you feel at home with the album. The warmth and comfort “Knew” provides is perfect to feeling at content with everything. By this time of listening, you’re all the way invested in “Lay Low Moon” and everything it has to offer. “On This Day Last Year” and “Meredith” both have a light-hearted rhythmic motion from the beautiful strings of the acoustic guitar, which captured us and had us moving and swaying along with the music! Sean shows strong versatility compared to the other releases off the album by adding a more upbeat and rapid tempo chord to the songs. Lay Low Moon's vulnerability is presented heavy in “Much Obliged” “Shadow On My Ceiling” and “Without You” however my personal favorite would undeniably be “Without You”. I just found myself touched by the melody and enticed by the vocals itself. Sean has this prepossessing vocal tone with a stylistic folk delivery and it sounds as if he’s singing in a cursive articulation. It’s quite mesmerizing but the acoustics from the guitar in “Without You” helped enhance the quality of the sound. Without You had us absolutely absorbed within the music and we couldn’t help but appreciate how Sean knew how to captivate his listeners. After warming our hearts with his heart-rendering vocals and riveting guitar chords, he brings a more bright and joyful presence with the next single “The Bottle”. The closing songs of “On This Day Last Year” seemed to be the closing story line of the entire album. “Simple Man” and “Thru & Thru” have a strong lyrical presence in which you’re naturally focusing on the detailed and progressing story he’s telling .. well, serenading. “On This Day Last Year” was a nice blend of soft acoustic ballads that shows off his mastery in sensitivity with more outgoing folk-like rhythms that demonstrates his diversity in conveying emotions yet all in all, completing the entire story of “On This Day Last Year”. Check out the album, "On This Day Last Year" here. Read more about Lay Low Moon in our interview below! Tell us a little bit about yourself Sean! Lay Low Moon is a ‘band’ I started years back, as an outlet through which to perform songs I’d been writing, while I was still very new at songwriting, and admittedly not very good at it. Lay Low Moon gradually ended up just morphing into a moniker I would use to call my solo project, as keeping permanent band members in the loop proved to be a frustrating task. Today, I consider it a collective, including various friends who come and go — the central focus being the songs I bring to the table, which are always evolving. Are there any key influences for your album “On This Day Last Year” ? The only true singular influence of my album, ‘On This Day Last Year,' I could site would be whatever I was harboring during the time I was writing the particular songs that appeared on the album. Which ranged from resentment & longing to joy. These songs were sort of written in batches over the span of a few years, so I’m pleased they sound as cohesive as they do together on the same album – much credit due to the production of Daniel Radin, no doubt. Musically, however, I’ve always held many of the great songwriters of the 1970s in quite high esteem. Most notably, Jackson Browne, Crosby Stills & Nash, and Joni Mitchell – and I think you can hear that. In which particular moments of “On This Day Last Year” do you believe affects listeners emotionally the most!? I have no way of knowing what would affect listeners the most, as I think that’s for them to decide. Although, from my perspective, I seem to be most affected by performing ’Thru & Thru’. What does the album title reflect on the theme of “On This Day Last Year” ? The title of the album, ‘On This Day Last Year’ is an ode to the fact that I’m nostalgic from the top of my head to the tips of my toes, which allows me, or perhaps causes me to ascribe meaning to the smallest memories I have from my past. And quite a few of the songs that appear on the album were written from a nostalgic point of view. And I suppose it’s hard not to get a bit nostalgic while performing them. What is your favorite song on the album? Why? As for my favorite song on the album, it’s a toss up between “Second Floor Apartment” and “Thru & Thru.” “Second Floor Apartment” because of its feel and rawness, both in subject matter and vocal delivery — something I wish I felt more capable of recreating more regularly. And “Thru & Thru” because I felt like I captured what I was trying to get across what I was trying to emote in a really short song. Without trying too hard. I was able to do so, in what felt like a very effective way, in a way that feels very off the cuff. And the song was very easy to write. What’s next for you!? Taking it one day at a time. Although I’m hoping to embark on a tour of the North East within the next year. Connect with Lay Low Moon on social media! - Ear Ringers Are Rocksteady On Their New Single “Let Me In”
This East LA band is taking us into stylistic indie rock territory with their smooth vocals, jangling guitars and catchy lyrics on their latest single “Let Me In”. The track is expertly assembled, it flows marvelously, and will have you tapping your toe along to the rhythm. The group seamlessly flows from English to Spanish which just ads to the Californiacation feeling of this tune. It’s hard to describe who these guys sound like because this track is truly original and stands out on its own. This five piece band have a burning passion for music in their hearts and long to be on stage performing in front of listeners, sharing their musical creations. We have no doubt this group will be fulfilling that desire and be very successful at it to boot! “Let Me In” is available for streaming today! Listen to “Let Me In” here and get to know about Ear Ringers below Hi all! Thanks for taking the time to speak to us about your new single “Let Me In”, how long have you guys been playing together? I (Daniel, bassist) met Miguel (Vocalist) when I was about thirteen years old. We immediately hit it off as we liked the same styles of music and we both played instruments. A couple of months had passed but we eventually decided to meet just for a jam session. There was an instant musical connection and from there we formed this band. About a month later Miguel introduced me to Jesus and Daftnet Mendoza ( Guitarist and Keyboardist) and they became apart of this group. The most difficult member to find was a drummer, but luckily David had been going to our school. We had asked him to fill in for some gigs but he eventually decided to join our band as a permanent member. We have now been playing for about three years. “Let Me In” includes lyrics sung in both English and Spanish, is that something we can look forward to seeing on more of your tracks? When the song was completely finished and we received the final version, we all agreed the Spanish verse was our favorite part of the song. We had been wanting to add Spanish in our songs for while but when we actually went ahead and did it, the result was beyond our expectations. We hope this throws our listeners off when they hear the song for the first time, and this is something we will definitely be exploring further with future songs. What does the creative process look like for a band of 5 people? In our case, creating songs is always a smooth process. I think this is because we understand each other's viewpoints and if there is an idea that isn't working, then we can trust each other to be honest without any offense taken. Most times it always starts with a small idea, maybe just chords for a verse or sometimes a chorus section. We just pour all our energy into creating a full song out of that idea and soon after Miguel writes the lyrics. How has the LA music screen influenced your art? Down here in LA most bands we see have some sort of surf rock vibe to their songs and we have taken influence from that sound. Most of our songs have that loose but high energy quality to them. Also due to the fact that LA is filled with Hispanic people and culture, it really influenced us to incorporate Spanish lyrics so we could connect with that audience group. What are you pumped for what's coming up for you guys? In about two weeks we play our first show at the Glasshouse down in Pomona. We're super excited for this show and we have some new songs that we're going to bring out. We're also excited to get back into the studio to record some new material that we have been working on for a couple of weeks now Connect with Ear Ringers on social medis Instagram: www.instagram.com/earringers Twitter: www.twitter.com/earringers

We listened to Smoove Gotti and R Stonzes EP and was pleasantly surprised and impressed with everything it had to offer. The project titled “Business As Usual” has loads of hits to offer us but one we enjoyed thoroughly was “Know What Up”. “Know What Up” was kickback and chilled yet had our head nodding and mood naturally connecting with the vibe of the song. The lyrics were catchy and slangy but had us feeling each punchline and bar they delivered. “Know What Up” is the type of song we can play in our car when we’re simply cruising around with our friends, or at a more relaxed environment that’s still shared between you and your friends. “Know What Up” has a melodic instrumental beat but had that classic midwestern flare to the beat highly popular and noticeable in Cleveland, Detroit, and other Midwestern Regions. The dimensions to the song were multi-faceted as opposed to having one singular layer because I mean, wouldn’t that be boring? Smoove Gotti and R Stonze curates a journey through their EP and “Know What Up” is a stepping stone of the iconic project! Listen to “Know What Up” here and get to know more about Smoove Gotti and R Stonzes below! How did the both of you meet and end up becoming collaborative partners!? We have been friends since high school. Smoove got kicked out of his high school as a junior and was forced to transfer to Bedford High School as a senior and we both did music.Through the years we maintained a close friendship. we recorded songs together in the past. Smoove took some time off of music and R Stonze had been busy getting it in. He reached out to Smoove and said Lets do a project. We took time from our busy schedules and got it done. Smoove Gotti is staring in a movie and the Executive producer of a film titled Life Lessons.R Stonze is training to qualify for the 2021 games in MMA. R Stonze also has a podcast radio show on Spotify titled HeadKick. Tell us about the EP “Business As Usual” and what our readers could expect from it! I believe a hip hop fan would love Business As Usual or #BAU if you appreciate real lyrics. We centered it around beats that complimented both of our rap styles. Smoovemakes alot of universal radio friendly songs but can really rap. R Stonze is gritty and laid back with punch lines. So we just decided to make it straight hip hop. What motivated you to write “Know What Up” ? Well we had a dope plan from the begining to both pick three beats a peice. R Stonze picked Know What Up. He put The hook on it. Smoove laid his verse. We both think it has the most commercial appeal of all the songs. I believe Know What Up is the theme song for our Ep. You get both of our authentic styles on a gully west coast beat that has Swag and gangster. What’s next for you? Well we have a music video on the way for Know What Up. Smoove is working on his Solo project which he plans to release in the summer along with his Movie Life Lessons. R Stonze artist Young Vitto is releasing a new project in April. He is featured on the EP. We are building momentum. Headkick podcast radio is streaming on Spotify. We are busy. Business as Usual. - Alexx Calise Dazzles Us With Her Music Video For Her New Single, “Rise”.
Alexx Calise is a singer and songwriter based out of Los Angeles, California. She is perhaps best known for her hit single called “Cry”, which was featured on the show “Dance Moms” and has gained over 5.3 million hits on YouTube. Calise also works with an LA based production duo called Sensitive Robot, Rob Johnson and Evan Marquardt, which focuses on songwriting and video production. She has cultivated an independant following with her heart-and-soul lyrics and no-apologies attitude. Calise is also a published model and actress, a writer for a number of music publications, and the other half of the musical project called Batfarm with Dennis Morehouse. Released today is Alexx Calise’s fresh new single called “Rise”. The song begins with a melancholic chord progression with electric guitar and piano. Calise’s vocals enter shortly after, and her tone is immediately captivating. The mood of this song is eventually quite uplifting, but not without the description of the things in life that can get you down. What the listener is left with is the ultimate sense of overcoming obstacles, hence the aptly named “Rise”. The chorus is uplifting, and Calise’s voice is soulful, polished and empowering. The instrumentation is old-school enough, with the use of organ and horns, and the overall pace of the song is perfectly understated. There is an accompanying music video to go with this soulful tune, featuring Calise writing with her partner on a couch, preparing for a performance, and ultimately performing with her band. This suits the pacing of the song perfectly, as the video builds up along with the music. We highly recommend you check out the song and video for “Rise” today! Check out "Rise". Read more from Alexx and Rob in our exclusive interview below! Hey, thanks for chatting with us! Would you mind starting off by describing your background and how you first became involved with music? Alexx: I was lucky in that I had a pretty musically rich childhood. My parents would play everything from Mozart to Led Zeppelin in the house, and my father (who is also a guitar player) would regularly play Beatles tunes and the James Bond theme for my little brother and I when we were small. Being a daddy’s girl to some extent, I just had to pick up the guitar myself too eventually, so I could be just like him. I discovered I loved singing when I was young as well, and very much looked up to artists like Janis Joplin, Steven Tyler, and Chris Cornell, which is where I guess I picked up my vibrato and torchy voice. Because I was a writer first and foremost, it seemed natural that I just put my writings to music, which I was also equally passionate about. Rob: I figured out how to play Beatles songs by ear at age 7 so I took piano lessons as a kid. My older siblings were musical so there was a lot of jamming and playing songs in our house growing up. I played bass in lots of bands in my teens and twenties, highlights include being produced by David Robinson of The Cars in a Boston band called Boys Life and playing in a popular Boston band called The Outlets. I’ve also written 4 musicals that’ve been produced numerous times throughout the US. Who would you describe as your biggest artistic influences? Alexx: Probably Silverchair, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Aerosmith. I have a laundry list of other artists across all genres, but these artists in particular were always in my rotation and continue to be because of their brilliant songwriting, chord choices, impassioned performances and how they made me feel chemically. Rob: The Beatles, John Prine, The Brill Building songwriters of the 60s, classic Broadway songwriters like Rogers & Hammerstein, Jerry Hermann and Sondheim etc. I just love the songwriters of great songs, that's the best way to sum up my influences. Those Brill Building songwriters were also an influence on the “Rise” music video. Your new single “Rise” seems to be a lot about overcoming the mundane obstacles of the world. Did you have this in mind from the beginning when you wrote the song? Alexx: Absolutely. We wrote this following Hurricane Irma in 2017, which caused catastrophic damage to some parts of the Caribbean and the Florida Keys. We wanted to write an uplifting song about rising from the ashes and overcoming your circumstances. Sometimes you have to start small, like forcing a smile, or just getting out of bed, which can seem almost impossible some days. Even if it hurts, sometimes you have to force yourself to rise. You really only have two choices in this life: to roll over or rise above. Rob: Alexx came in with the title "Rise" and the idea to write a song about her family and friends dealing with Hurricane Irma. I loved her idea and just started writing a gospel-tinged chord progression on piano and we finished writing the song together in a couple hours. You collaborate a lot with other artists and producers. How would you describe your overall songwriting process? In other words, how does your music all come together? Alexx: It really varies. Sometimes I start with the lyrics or melody, and the other person does the music, sometimes we do it all together. It just really depends on the situation and what the moment dictates. Mainly we’re always just bouncing ideas off of each other, and we both decide what stays and what doesn’t. Lyrics and melody are kind of my calling card especially, so I try to be really involved with that. Rob: Yeah, it depends. I have a good understanding of music theory but I think emotion or an idea comes first and then lyrics and music happen kind of effortlessly in support of a strong concept. I’ve co-written songs and musicals with numerous people and love the synergy of collaboration. What can we hope to see from you in the future? Alexx: As far as with Sensitive Robot, we’re always writing, be it in the form of cues, or whole songs. Right now, Rob and I have been working on these schlocky French style tunes, and we’re having an absolute blast doing it. We’re huge fans of 40’s style music, and it’s just so fun to write and sing. We will be releasing those songs as singles over the course of the year. I’ll also be releasing an EP with my other band, Batfarm in the coming months. Rob: As Alexx said, we’re having a blast writing a collection of retro French type songs. I’m also currently co-writing with Marvin Etzioni (founder of American country rock band Lone Justice) and Sensitive Robot is working on some very interesting musical projects that we’ll be releasing in the near future.
