- Ekidna Releases Heavy-Hitting Single "Blurred"
Ekidna is a songwriter, producer and performer from Italy. He grew up playing hard and heavy riffs on guitar with his first band all over the northern region of Italy. Thanks to an extraterrestrial intervention, he discovered electronic music and production and began to travel throughout Europe and the United States, wandering through an ever-evolving soundscape that lead to the release of his first tracks. In his music, you can find an homage to the metal scene as well as nods to alternative electro pop. Love, rage, humans and snakes, welcome to the cave, his mind is the Ekidna. BuzzMusic is proud to present a single by Ekidna called “Blurred”. The song takes off immediately, with a heavy-hitting beat and raucous synths and vocals. The verse sports vocals that are much more subdued and quiet. They build tension throughout which perfectly sets up the return to each chorus. The song is nicely split up by a bridge with soaring vocals, rich synths, and the beat drops out to highlight these two elements. Aspects of heavy metal can be heard throughout the song, but they are tasteful and often not easy to pick out, making this song an engaging listen. “Blurred” is a catchy single with an eclectic mix of genres. We highly recommend you check out Ekidna's "Blurred" on Spotify, as well as the artists exclusive interview below! Could you start by describing your background and what the music scene was like in Italy growing up? Well, my background is mainly based on rock and metal music, i grew up playing the classics on guitar and at the age of 15 started my first band and wrote my first songs. We played a lot for many years and also had some good response from international labels at some point, but still we were too young and maybe not strong enough to face the difficulties you always find on your path as a musician. Metal has always been a niche everywhere, but in Italy the situation was (and actually is) pretty bad, for all subcultures or genres that are not considered mainstream or profitable, or just "classic Italian". There's no very much room for culture and creativity. Now a big change has been brought by some cool hip hop artist, so happy for that. Can you tell me anything about your discovery of electronic production and this supposed alien? Haha yeah, right on the coda of my experience with the band a few years ago I met a brilliant performer and producer from LA that opened up my mind to the possibilities of electronic production and that kind of performance. You know, it may sound stupid, but for a kid that always played distorted guitar and sang the hell out of his lungs, that was a great turning point. I've always loved pop music, and with that knowledge i started writing new material melting together my roots, with new sounds and melodies. I definitely owe to her the fact that I'm doing music right now and the way i'm doing it. So yeah, she's the Alien. Who would you say your biggest musical influences are? I got plenty! I listen to a lot of different music but ok I'll try to say just a few ones: Chris Cornell, Megadeth, Depeche Mode, Grimes, Purity Ring and the Italian Bob Rifo aka The Bloody Beetroots (he's from a town not so far from my place!). I mean, i really should tell you way more names (especially in the Rock scene), but you can easily recall these ones in my songs. A lot of people tell me I remind them of Nine Inch Nails but I find that weird..and cool at the same time. You have a single, “Blurred”, would you be able to share any particular meaning or message behind the music here? Blurred is about the constant longing for someone to have on our side. The inability of many people to stay on their own that leads them to call "love" something that just isn't. Too many times we lie to ourselves and to the others just because we are too lazy or afraid to face our demons and our life on our own. I'm happy with this song because I find it very honest, there's also a stripped version of it I recorded during a live session. What can we hope to see from Ekidna in the future? After a two years work on production I just started to plan some live shows and intend to play and tour as much as possibile. I miss the live shows and that energy and can't wait to bring this huge sound we built to the clubs and the people, meanwhile i'm working on new songs and productions. Follow me on all social media and Spotify and i promise you there will be a lot of music. - Corn 220 Gives Us “Fanta Freestyle”
Corn 220 is a rapper from Locust Grove T who released his single titled “Fanta Freestyle” off his album, “220 B!tch”. “Fanta Freestyle” immediately begins with a banging introduction giving you no time to adjust and instantly settling you into the song. As soon as I started playing this record, my coworker goes “That’s catchy!” and this was an indicator to me that “Fanta Freestyle” grasps your attention the second you hear the witty punchlines. The hook is repetitive yet addicting due to the cheeky and audacious use of wordplay with a fun and popular flavored drink. The hook says, “I'm dripping cherry fanta, strawberry banana, pockets full of hunnids, dripping berry fanta, pounds of apple Fanta, Dolce and Gabbana, pineapple and banana” he knows how to lyrically translate the meaning behind his metaphors which makes you respect the caliber of his songwriting. The beat lays down the foundation of the song and helps support the charismatic and upbeat energy it’s equipped with. I can see many people blasting “Fanta Freestyle” in their cars and around their friends while repeating the quick-witted lyrics in the addictive hook. The soaring qualities of the vocals and the compassionate delivery of the lyrics create an ethereal feeling in which one can, for a few minutes, become comfortably lost in thought. This song is a perfect balance of being sentimental without being sappy, and melancholy without being sad. "She Said" is an impressive offering from a young artist, and we look forward to hearing what future offerings will come from Jay Berk. Give some love to Jay and stream "She Said" on Spotify! Don't forget to scroll down to read the artists exclusive interview with BuzzMusic. Hi Jay! Would you mind telling us about your background and how you got involved with music and songwriting? I’ve always loved music and I’ve always loved singing. I sang in my school choirs growing up, but didn’t get involved in songwriting until I was about 16. I had broken my ankle and was out for the remainder of the basketball season, so I decided to teach myself how to play my Mom’s old guitar that had been sitting in the basement untouched for years. I taught myself the basic chords, and had a blast being able to accompany myself for the first time. After a while I got bored of playing other people’s songs, so I started writing my own songs, making up lyrics and melodies over the chord progressions I knew. That’s how it all started. What inspires you to write music? Do you have a specific process? I’m inspired by a lot of different things: women, personal relationships, dreams, philosophy, conversations, tweets, aesthetics, places I’ve been, and places I’ve never been. I’m inspired by an incredible amount of things on an every day basis. Songwriting is woven into the very fabric of my being. I can’t escape it. I hear melodies and lyrics pretty much everywhere. I see the world through the lens of a songwriter and from my experience it’s easy to be inspired from that viewpoint. Once I have an idea for a song, there are a couple different methods I use to create, but I usually just go with the flow, so it really depends on the situation. It could be anything from sitting down and letting my thoughts flow onto the page, to freestyling over a beat, to going on a walk or looking over journal entries etc. You just released a song called "She Said". Would you explain to us what the meaning behind this song is? “She Said” is based off of a text conversation that I had with my ex girl. I was trying to get back together with her and she didn’t want that. We had this text convo where I had all these great arguments on why we should get back together, and she really didn’t want to hear any of it. I remember asking her about what she wanted most and she went in about affection, which is a little ironic considering I’m a pretty affectionate person. Anyway, that was a break-through in the conversation and when she said it, I immediately wrote down “she want that affection/ loving that connection/ won’t get from the next man/ what you had with me.” That’s where the chorus came from. The rest of the lyrics are pretty much direct quotes from that conversation. “She Said” really came from the frustration of lost love. I felt like she wasn’t hearing me out, so I wrote the song to try and communicate through a different medium. Unfortunately, the reality was that she just didn’t love me anymore, and it didn’t matter what I had to say. That’s what the song means to me, but I’m a firm believer that the listener should have their own interpretation of the song based on their life. I want the song to have a positive impact on people, so you should take the song personally. You should take any Jay Berk song personally. You're from Washington, D.C. How would you describe the general music scene there? The music scene in D.C. is diverse. You’ve got a lot of Rap & Hip/Hop. There’s an awesome R&B scene. There’s a great Jazz scene and of course the Go-go scene is one of a kind. I love the music coming out of the DMV right now and I’m proud to be a part of it. What does the future look like for Jay Berk? The future looks really bright for me. I love what I’m doing as a singer/songwriter and performer, and I’m having a great time studying at Berklee College of Music right now. I’m lucky to be immersed in the best music community in the world, and I’m excited to continue mastering my craft. I’m going to be releasing more new music this spring along with video content and merch, so I’m excited for that in the short term. In the long term, I’m excited to make a positive difference in the world, and to continue on the incredible journey that life is. - Prospect Mundo Releases His Single “Sooner Than Later”
Prospect Mundo released the single titled “Sooner Than Later” and you can catch the musical breeze and find yourself comforted with the aura it presents! The introduction climaxes in dynamics to add a nice dramatic effect to get you settled in with the song. “Sooner Than Later” has this atmospheric sensual energy surrounding the song where you can paint a picture of lust, seduction, and romance. The romantic lyrics delivered a strong R&B delivery in not only the vocals but the melody as well. Everything was emotionally convicted and incorporated the style of autotune to correctly match the pitch of the song! The lyrics in “Sooner Than Later” are highly poetic in my opinion. The raunchy sex appeal it has is just a small portion of how metaphorically romantic everything is. “Sooner Than Later” is the perfect song to create a vibe between you and a special someone and curate the moment you’re hoping to curate between the both of you. The aura is especially fitting for a late night drive, due to the slowed down tempo and subdued images you’re bound to manufacture in your head! Prospect Mundo undeniably gave me a song I can add to my smooth-jam playlists. Catch Prospect Mundo's "Sooner Than Later" on Spotify, and scroll below for the artists personalized interview! Chat and stay connected with Prospect Mundo on the artists Instagram! #BuzzMusic Mind telling us a little bit about yourself and where you're from? I'd say the best way to describe myself is a by-product of the city I'm from, Toronto, Canada. Having moved around a bit growing up I never claimed one part of the city as my own so I adjusted to where I was and it made me who I am today, Prospect Mundo. I like to tell intimate stories that i've either went through or observed in my life, Music is like therapy and its keeping me sane. When writing "Sooner Than Later' did you have any inspiration? My inspiration for this track was based on a significant woman in my life and the conflict we were going through at the time, referring to what we wanted in our individual live's, reflecting that "I needed time to grow" and that I needed the time to work on myself before I could be there for her. It's also about reconnecting with her and realizing her worth hence the line "you bloomed over time" What's the meaning behind "Sooner Than Later"? The title of the track encapsulated everything I was trying to say with this record, "Sooner Than Later" is reflecting on what was between us, that no matter how long it takes for either of us to bloom (grow) that it would happen sooner than later, I make reference to that growth through the track in different ways. How would you personally describe your music style? My sound is still developing but at this time I would say it's Melodic RnB, my releases so far all sound different and I'm learning that I'm still capable of more variation, I'm pushing my voice as much as possible to get the best results so look for more unique sounds in the future. Any upcoming releases we can anticipate from you? My next single will be coming a'lot sooner than later, I'll be switching it up a bit and going over a more uptempo beat, to show my versatility. I'm trying to prove overtime that I'm in a lane of my own, the next one is 100% different from my past releases with a more modern day sound but still with the Prospect Mundo vibes that my current supporters are familiar with.
- Louis Libran Releases New Single "Take Me Back"
“Take Me Back” provides sounds of A.I-generated dark pop: the basslines bounce, synths rush and Louis Libran voice floats you through the song like you're being carried down a lazy river of summer. Just when you’ve closed your eyes and entered groove station an electric hip-hop beat of percussion rises you from your trance. You’re suddenly on a dark dance floor, the pounding bass only matched by the strobe light above and your body grooving across the room. Libran’s music is unique with its electronic pop feel, harmonious verses and punchy choruses- his music conjures resemblances to Gorillaz and Tiesto. Libran is a singer songwriter from the western suburbs of Sydney. He hopes his electronic pop vibe, full of self-love and empowerment will resonate with fans and forge connections through his music. “Take Me Back” is now streaming on Spotify for your listening pleasure. Check below for Louis' exclusive interview where the artist sheds some light on the music scene in Sydney, as well as goals for 2019! Hi Louis, thanks for chatting! Congratulations on your new single “Take Me Back”. What does this song mean to you? This song for me was an outlet for one of my darkest moments I’ve had recently. It’s a song about awareness and fighting your inner demons. We all have those voices in our head that tell us we are not good enough and sometimes we act on these thoughts. This song tells a story of how a broken heart is reminiscent of better times and in order to get those good times back we need to face our demons head on. This song for me is a cure and a reminder to my self sabatour that I am fierce and not even I can get in the way of my own success. Who are you listening to currently that sparks your creative side? I am always listening to Lady Gaga, she always inspires me. But I’ve also been listnening to Marina and the Diamonds and a lot of Tyler The Creator. Artists like these have always showed me that being vulnerable, honest and raw can be rewarding to the writer as well as the listener. This world can be dark and I think it’s great that people can listen to an artist and know that their not alone. Can you tell us a little about your background and what made you want to get into music? Sure, I come from a big diverse family that encouraged sports and fitness. Naturally I did sports like my siblings and parents but found my passion for music in church when singing to old Latin songs in dusty old books. Church was boring for me as a child but I always looked forward to singing these songs that would stick in my head hours after a service. Fast forward to high school where my pubescent hormones made me lazy and want to quit sports and take up music instead. High school I worked very hard on honing my musical skills and writing skills constantly practicing and performing at school assemblies. In high school I looked up to these artists like Lady Gaga, Queen, Tyler The Creator, Slipknot and didn’t know where I’d fit in the music world. Through a writing a lot of music I realised that I don’t have to fit in a box to be great. And the great ones that I were looking upto broke stereotypes and boxes that people would often try to put them in. Growing up west of Sydney, what is the music scene like there? Music scene is almost none existent. When I say that I don’t mean there are no artists out in the west, i mean gigs and live music for original artists are scarce out here. There is a really cool venue a few streets from me actually where people have opened up their home for bands to play in their backyard. I’ve been to a couple of their gigs they have organised and it is mental. We need more initiative like this in the Western suburbs to help and support these talented artists. What can we hope to see from Louis in the future? You can definitely expect a music video for my new single Take Me Back hopefully within a month. Also, there are a lot of plans in the works right now so this ain’t the last of me. There is a lot coming so stay tuned. - Stains of a Sunflower Release Powerful Single "If We Could Burn"
LA newcomers Stains of a Sunflower explode onto the LA scene with their new song, “If We Could Burn”. Natalie Renee mesmerizes with her young powerful voice that is capable of transporting you back to a rock infused era where female rock n roll powerhouses owned the stage like Patti Smith, Janis Joplin and Joan Jett. A clear rocking frontwoman, Renee’s voice grabs the listener, submerges them into the song, and drowns out all of the noise that surrounds you. She’s strong, she’s powerful but incredibly graceful. Renee is backed by just as powerful and formidable band. The base plucks a deep funk, the electric guitar belts out rugged rock n roll riffs and the drums pound and crash rhythmically in the background. Hailing from Boston, Stains of a Sunflower is new to the LA scene but has already played gigs at LA venues big and small including Lot 1 and The Whiskey A Go Go. The band recently performed their new single “If We Could Burn” on LA's resident underground radio/YouTube program A Fistful of Vinyl, and will be released March 22. Stains of a Sunflower deserves your listening attention, as this band is destined for rock n roll greatness. Don't miss out and stream "If We Could Burn" here! Scroll below for the bands personalized interview with BuzzMusic. So nice to chat with you! Your new single “If We Could Burn” is badass! What was idea behind the song? Thank you so much!! That means a lot. Shade and myself (Natalie) got together for a writing session, and he showed me the lick, the one that opens the song & turns into the main hook. A few nights before, I’d been in my writing den trying to come up with something, anything. I kept writing the phrase “if we could burn like the stars in the night sky” over and over in my notebook. When we got together, the phrase just made more sense split up and repeated, copying the riff. We wrote pretty much the rest of the song there in the studio, trying to embody this sense of longing to be great, to be fantastic. That being said, we also wanted to encourage having patience with ourselves and each other when we feel we are not great. Talk me through the writing and composing process for a band of 4? How do you avoid creative differences? Writing with the band is quite interesting, really, and only continues to be so. We all have different interests, backgrounds, and approaches to playing and writing, but with all that, a common ground. We have fun. And we really care about each other. Of course we have to remember we’re human too, not just artists, and that people are inherently unique and different. Performing and writing with the band since 2015 has been one of the most eccentric, educational, and truly magical experiences in my career and personal life, and because of that I believe our creative differences actually lend themselves to our writing, quite a lot. So really, we like having creative differences, and continue to focus on not avoiding them, but communicating them clearly. Here and there, of course there’s miscommunications, but we stay open, we stay grounded, and we have fun. What have you been up to since moving to LA? Since moving to LA, we’ve all just been trying to settle in and keep moving forward, independently and together. We’ve restructured our rehearsal schedule, so we’ve had a lot more time to workshop new ideas and write together every week. The rest of my time has been job hunting, networking, and more writing. And lots of goofy adventures, of course. What was it like recently playing on A Fistful of Vinyl, which is really a small, hidden backyard location in Culver City? It was super fun playing on A Fistful of Vinyl. The backyard patio we played in was just beautiful, and so intimate, and it was a blast just hanging with the crew and getting to know them (and their family!) and the owners of the house (and their dogs!). What are you hoping to see happen for your career in the year ahead? In the next year, I’m certainly hoping that we become more immersed in all the different music and artistic communities in Los Angeles. We knew it would take some time to gain a following here, moving is always an adjustment, but everyone we’ve met and worked with so far has been just wonderful. The communities and people that have begun to embrace us and welcome us have been so genuine, and it’s a really nice reminder that when we feel alone, we’re really not so alone. I’m looking forward to hopefully be playing with lots of the friends we’ve made so far, and many more in a year, being able to fill venues and be playing regular shows for free, and to record some of our newer songs. - Mick Mersse Delivers Us A Hip-Hop Love Song!
Mick Mersse is an upcoming hip-hop and rap phenomenon/entrepreneur whose one of the four founders of monopoly entertainment. With 3 mixtapes completed and a debut album on the way, Mick Mersse has generated over 10k streams on multiple streaming services. With his unorthodox delivery, clever word play, fresh hooks and choruses, Mick Mersse has begun collecting a fan base that spreads from his hometown of Willingboro, NJ to Sacramento, CA; along with other major cities nationwide. Mick Mersse released his single titled “I Need You” off his album “I AM” and we were pleasantly impressed with the crisp hook we can find ourselves immersed in. “I Need You” shows elements of classic R&B with a smooth-sailing, easy riding melodic delivery. The chords and register the hook was sang in showcased his ability to carry his voice into an upper and silk-like vocal dynamic. He began to rap with a clean-cut flow to project the poetically romantic lyrics. In my opinion, “I Need You” is a love song about how a man has his eye set on a girl that he wants to make his. “All I want is, all I need is you”. The lyrics can serve as a relatable message for all you hopeless romantics out there or people who find themselves crushing on a significant other. A rap ballad is what I call this fused together rap and R&B hit! His biggest hip hop/rap influences were NaS, LL Cool J, 2PAC, Notorious B.I.G., and Jay-Z. According to his label mate and relative ATL, Anthony Lightner, listening to his style, you can hear the influences in the music he creates. He incorporates his musical influences and crafts it into his own individual style that you will love! Add "I Need You" to your Spotify playlist, and keep scrolling for Mick's exclusive interview! Mind telling us a little bit about monopoly and 100gz entertainment? What up world! My name is Mick Mersse. 100Gz Entertainment. From NJ to CA stand up!! Block Monopoly started way back in the day when I was a teenager with some friends I grew up and all had a common thing which was music. Myself, my good friend and fellow artist Jase Harley, and a few others created it. The name Block Monopoly ended up having to changed due to legal issues, but all of us remain close even with distance becoming an obstacle. When I relocated from New Jersey to California, I was already in the process of creating my own indie brand and thats when 100Gz Entertainment was created. It started out as a small idea, but with to help from some supporters of the brand, I was able to get it things up and going. Here we are, years later, still going strong. Out of all your music influences, who has been the most impactful for you as an artist and why? I know this is answer kind of cliche, but based off his bodies of work, innovation, breaking music barriers, and opening up doors for aspiring artists like myself, hands down its Jay-Z. You can literally raise a kid off the tutilidge he lyrically stated from "Reasonable Doubt" to "4:44". Thats not too much of a stretch to say given that where I come from, we needed someone to pass down knowledge and he did that amazingly. Music wise, his production selection, subject matter, witty lyrical ability, and top tier business savvy had an immense impact on me so much, his longevity would be something i would aspire to emulate. Tell us a little bit about your album “I AM” what can our readers expect from the project? "I AM..." Is my 2nd album/EP. I love this album so much and hold it up there with some of my personal favorite albums. Alot of time and energy was put into this and the end product came out really good. This album has production from some of the most talented producers such as Tunez, BIM$, WhoIsROG, and Dreamlifebeats. Without them, this album couldn't have happened, so let me give my thanks to those geniuses. "I AM..." has been something I've been working on since maybe the last interview we did mid to late June of last year. I pretty much started the process shortly after releasing my previous album "Leavin' My Legacy" in May, (quick plug). But all in honestly, what the readers and listeners can expect is a fresh, more mature, more electic sound. Honesty in the lyrics, stories, and social content along with the witty lyricism that in this day in age gets bypassed. There's something for everyone on this album, but its intention is to open the mind of the listeners to something new that doesn't sound like what you hear everyday. I try not sound like anyone, even down to the "cross-over" records like " I Need You". What inspired you to write “I Need You” and what’s the meaning behind it? "I Need You" was inspired from a conversation I had with a good friend of mine. He was telling me about a time when he first met a particular lady he quickly became head over heels for. I took some pieces of the conversation we had and created the hook for the song along with some of the lyrics. I had to reach back out to D. Banks and just as I expected, he killed it and took the record to whole another level. Salute to D. Banks!! The intention was to make a really good record overall and I think D.Banks and I, accomplished that. So, please go check it out, its a really good song. What's next for you through 2019? Hopefully more opportunites, of course, more music content, and some performances. Hopefully a label may find an interest in my art and wants to offer a deal, we'll have to see. Music wise, I do have intentions on releasing more material for the summer, so please check for that. Socialize with Mick Mersse via the artists social media platforms: Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic
- Anever Gives Us An Electrifying Hit!
Anever is a 4 piece metal rock band all the way from Bay Area, California. The group consists of Soul Kerr on Drums, Tik Chandra on Bass, Brandon Crawford on Guitar/vocals, and Moises Anderson on vocals. Anever released their single titled “Solo”, the hardcore and gratifying death metal record you will become oddly intrigued by! The epic record begins with a rhythmic drum combination before the chaotic and brashful fusion of electric guitars and even more electrifying vocals appears. The single employs heavily distorted vocals with low-tuned guitars delivered with techniques such as deep growling and aggressive vocals, completely embodying the entire concept of the subgenre of metal music! The chromatic chord progressions helps project the extremity of the record. A genre like this could be very difficult for people to grasp the concept of the lyricism however if you really take the time to intune yourself behind the chaos you will find the content to be highly poetic. Anever curates this unique image upon themselves naturally which becomes magnifying and captivating to most like myself who's been un-familiarized with the genre of heavy metal music! If you weren’t a fan before, Anever makes sure to reel you into their world of tremolo picking, fast-paced tempos, and blast beat drumming to give you an experience you won’t forget! Give a listen to "Solo" here, and scroll below for the bands exclusive interview! Hey guys, can you introduce yourselves to our readers? How did the band form? The band formed immediately after founding members Soul Kerr and Jake Aaron Ward (no longer in the band) graduated high school in 2014. It was originally called Demize. The name changed to Skypark in 2015, releasing one EP called Ignite. In late 2016 the group lost two members and had to go into hiding for half a year to write a brand new record, which would become the Self-titled EP. Now Anever has played hundreds of shows, released two records, and is working hard on its first full length slated for release later in 2019. What do you think is a current misconception in the metal music genre? The biggest misconception will always be that metalheads are toxic, negative people. We have never agreed with this stereotype. We prefer to see metal music as a brutally honest reflection of the world we all live in, speaking to its less glamorous traits. Our music expresses our opinions on the uglier things in the world in the most relatable way possible, in hopes that we can help our fans deal with similar situations. What is your writing process like? How often are you guys creating new music? We are creating music every week now because it is time to release a new project. Our latest record, Comfort In Agony, has been on the airwaves since 2017 and a lot of things have changed internally since then. We have grown as musicians, learned more about functioning as an independent metal outlet in this industry, and became a much stronger unit overall. Tell us a little bit about “Solo” and what’s it about! Solo is a song for those who have come to terms with something toxic existing in their life. It isn't about surrendering to it's presence, but accepting that your life will be better if it isn't a part of it. Any exciting upcoming live performances we should know about? Do you plan on touring anytime soon? We can't wait to hear what's next! We are working on a lot of new projects for this year. Unfortunately we can't talk about them just yet, but if you like what you've seen so far and want to stay updated, be sure to follow all of our social media pages and you will know about everything we have coming as soon as we are able to share it! Thomason is a perfect example of the breath of fresh air we all need in mainstream music and this without a doubt, just the beginning for him. We had the opportunity to chat with T. Thomason about what it was like to grow up as a musician in Canada, the experience of being on The Launch and why he's Avril Lavigne's number one fan! Congratulations on being chosen on Canada's The Launch to record the single 'Hope'. How did you manage to put your own spin on the song? Thank you so much! I was so fortunate that Scott Borchetta and the original writers of "Hope" were open to me tweaking a couple of the lyrics and re-writing the second verse. I wrote the song as a letter to my younger self and it allowed me to connect very deeply with the song. Every time I sing it I feel like I'm speaking to 14 year old T. and telling him things are going to work out. "Hope" is a powerful and uplifting ballad, what is the meaning of the song for you? There's a line in the song "I will look you in the eyes and I'll apologize for every belief that has kept us hiding" - Even typing it out makes me choke up. That's the spirit of the song, right there. To me, this song is about reclaiming space. It's about reassuring anyone listening that though you may be different, though you may feel unloveable or alone - there is a community for you. There is a community for everyone. There is no need to hide, because the pieces of you that feel shameful or scary or unspeakable - those are the unique, beautiful, and strong things that will indefinitely connect you with "your people". "Hope" has garnered over 100,000 streams and has landed on Canadian top 40 charts; what does that feel like? It's incredible to see the success Hope has had in such a short period of time. I am constantly pinching myself. I feel so lucky, and so thankful. Getting to work with The Launch, Scott Borchetta and Big Machine, and Alex Hope (s/o to an LA local!) was honestly beyond my wildest dreams. As an experienced musician with over 10 years preforming, what did you learn from being on CTVs The Launch? It's hard to start to list the things I learned from the Launch, because there are so many. I think overall, I learned that one of the most important things in this industry to is stay true to yourself and be surrounded by people who help you keep your eyes on your original vision, no matter what crazy circumstances you find yourself in. I was reminded more than ever how this industry is about trust, luck, timing, and gut reactions. It's important to have the perfect mix of all those things to really take the reins on an amazing opportunity. On the show you spoke about being trans and your story of how you arrived to where you are today, how does that influence or play into your music? I feel like the last 4 years have taught me so much about authenticity, patience, and kindness. As a result of all that learning, these days I am making music with people who I have gotten to know extremely well and who have seen me through some rough times and I am more open than ever to new collaborations. I think you can hear that in the new tunes I'm putting out, like the two tracks before Hope; Bliss and Loser. I like to think that this era of music for me is about freedom, exploration, fun, and collaboration, and I hope that's reflected in what I'm releasing and how is resonates with listeners. I hope this new music makes people feel deeply, and dance. Growing up in Canada who are your Canadian musical influences? Oh god. I was a HUGE Avril Lavigne fan back in the day. I'm pretty sure she was the reason I started to think that I wanted to do all this (at age 12 lol). I grew up listening to Avril, Sum 41, Billy Talent, Buck 65, Mary-Margaret O'Hara, Joni Mitchell, Tegan and Sara, and Justin Bieber. It's a little all over the place in terms of genre but as I write those names out I'm so proud they are all Canadian. These days some of my favourite Canadian artists are Shawn Mendes, Ria Mae, Neon Dreams, Ralph, and Chudi Harris. You're currently heavy into promoting 'Hope', appearing on many live broadcasts. Are you ever nervous before going on stage for network TV? Sometimes I get a little jittery, but I feel like it's mostly with adrenaline. I love meeting new people and being in front of crowds. On this run of promo for Hope I have definitely learned how exhausting it can be, so sometimes being tired can turn into a certain kind of nerves, especially on live TV. In general I absolutely love all of it. What's next for you throughout 2019? I am so so pumped to be heading to the UK for showcases at The Great Escape and FOCUS Wales, as well as some other tour dates that are in the works. Otherwise, I've been back in the studio, and booking a bunch of summer festival shows. There may or may not be an album drop in the works ;) It's going to be a great year. Connect with T. - "Come Alive" With The Latest From Davinceó
Davinceó is never afraid to vocalize his feelings which is one of his strengths which provides a connection to his listeners all over. Growing up in various urban areas of Detroit, Davinceó has gathered his life learning experiences of sex, love and success into a sound of his own. His music makes a gateway for dark ambient Trap R&B especially in his latest release "Come Alive". With a heavy flow and lots of syncopation, Davinceó knows how to make a verse his own. In the age of Soundcloud rappers and the likes, it is often hard to find which people to listen to. Listen to Davinceó once, and you will be hooked with his incorporation of melodies and witty lyrics. The instrumental in "Come Alive" seems to take influence from Juice Wrld with dark chords and rhythmically moving verses and chorus. The soft use of the piano brings in the ambience of the track while the slow yet steady beats make for the Trap influence, and lastly the melodic use is from the influence of the R&B genre. Davinceó's lyrics in "Come Alive" are explicit and raw while telling his point of view of his love life. If you choose to listen to anyone new in the rap world, make sure to listen to Davinceó because he will reel you in immediately. Listen to "Come Alive" here and get to know Davinceó in our exclusive interview below! Hi Davinceó, can you introduce yourself to our readers? I'm an entrepreneur, singer, rapper, producer, songwriter, and future movie score composer from the East side and West side of Detroit, MI. I grew up in various areas around the city in the metropolitan area. My mom raised me as a single parent, so I grew up with limited resources, but I've always felt less was more. I used my imagination for the most part for entertainment. I would describe myself as persistent, caring, head strong, and humble with a "Big Spark" of charismatic traits. What made you get into music? Truthfully, I gained a love for music just from having a love for it, but I've always participated in talent shows, various dance groups, rap groups, and drama club. My mother still bring's up stories of me dancing or singing to the music she'll be playing like Michael Jackson, Kenny G, Evelyn "Champagne" King, and Earth, Wind, & Fire. I really love R&B, Rap, Classical, Country, Jazz, and for the most part anything that sounds good. A few of my favorite artists range from Aaliyah, Amy Winehouse, JAY-Z, Drake, JoJo, Tupac, Yo-Yo Ma, Sade, Jhené Aiko, Beyonce, and Anita Baker. Each of those artist's I learned things about myself through their music and applied it to my own talents and life as well. Has it always been easy for you to be vocal about your feelings? I've always been shy, timid, and observant as a kid, but I've always been able to vocalize how I felt through poetry, writing a song, or dancing. Recently, for the past two years I discovered to just lay my poetry on the track without writing it. I'm a deep thinker, so I believe in creative expression through all forms of creativity. Whether I'm happy, sad, bored, or feeling silly I try to go record without writing anything down. What prompted you to write, “Come Alive” and what is the meaning behind the song? I really love that song because it came together so naturally. I recorded the melody at like 4 a.m. on Jan 9 and wrote to it. That didn't work out too well. So, a week later I went to the studio and improvised, It felt more natural than reading lyrics. The song is about a woman I haven't seen in several years, who's in love with my car, its actually based off a real encounter. She basically only wanted to be in my presence because of my car. It's like the term "Back then, They didn't want me, Now I'm hot they all up on me" S/O Mike Jones and Houston,TX. Throughout the song I'm reflecting on various situations about money, women, deceit, mistakes, and past relationships like a "Note To Self". What would you say is your favorite lyric in “Come Alive” and why? My favorite lyric is "I'm so numb, blame it where I'm from, dumb and they young...". I'm speaking from a place of basically being a product of my environment. I grew up in rough conditions but that's what made me who I am today. What is one thing you would want your listeners to get from listening to you? I would say an understanding of "Myself", My story, and whatever they're able to take from the situation to benefit their own lives. I'm really big on the listener taking what jumps out to them. Everyone's perception is different. I've heard I'm a "VIBE", but truthfully I just record from the heart. What can we expect next from you Davinceó? I'm currently just working in the studio constantly. I have so much coming, so you should expect something from me very soon.
