- Charlotte Enegren’s Offers An Authentic Glimpse Of Pop Expression In “Off-Kilter”
Born in Stockholm and seasoned by life in Brussels, London, and Paris, we enter the enchanting world of Charlotte Enegren, the Swedish singer-songwriter whose musical journey spans the eclectic landscapes of blues, soul, funk, and pop. Charlotte's influences have shaped her distinctive sound from Joss Stone to Prince. After delving into Social Anthropology in London, she immersed herself in the Parisian jazz scene, refining her craft before returning to London for a Master's in Popular Music at Goldsmiths. Charlotte's music is a vibrant blend of soulful pop with jazz and blues undertones, a unique concoction that finds its latest expression in the introspective single "Off-kilter." Her vocals emerge as a delicate yet powerful force, inviting listeners into her world with an authenticity that is both minimalistic and classic. The song ventures into uncharted territory, offering a refreshing take on pop that captures the essence of genuine expression as this track takes us on a journey through the peaks and valleys of self-doubt, delivering a melodic and rhythmic exploration of the human experience. The mélange of pop and R&B is brought to life through piano melodies, delicate electric guitar licks, and a rhythm-focused electronic production that adds a contemporary edge to the classic sounds. But the true genius lies in her musical compositions and Charlotte's storytelling prowess, painting vivid imagery that aligns seamlessly with her melodic masterpieces. As she shines bright and sparkles on the mic, Charlotte Enegren establishes herself as a storyteller of emotions, a musical craftsman pushing the boundaries of the pop genre. "Off-kilter" offers an intimate exploration of the human psyche, a testament to Charlotte's ability to infuse depth and sincerity into her music, leaving listeners enchanted and craving more. Listen to "Off-kilter" on all streaming platforms today. We adore how "Off-kilter" brilliantly blends several genres with undertones that emanate your true sound. How do you approach merging these sounds, and what do you feel each contributes to the emotional narrative of your music? Thank you so much for having me, BUZZ! Since I take inspiration from many different kinds of music, it feels second nature to me to blend various musical styles together when I’m composing a song. However, I think there is always a soulful undertone which is possibly the common thread which ties my different songs together, whether they are more acoustic or electronic. I had the pleasure of working with my friend and producer Slow Shudder again on this release, and she really helped me bring the arrangement to life through the various rhythmic textures and sonic colors she weaves throughout the track. My friend Ulysses Wells also contributed some subtle guitar licks which add a bluesy feel. It was important that all the sonic elements really complemented the personal tone of the lyrics and the vocals. Your musical journey has taken you across Brussels, London, Paris, and beyond. How have these diverse locations and cultures influenced your sound, especially considering your passion for blues, soul, and funk? Growing up in Brussels I watched a lot of music videos on MTV and listened to CDs of my favourite artists at the time such as Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Sheryl Crow and Ashanti to name a few. My older sisters’ music tastes also rubbed off on me, which I’m super grateful for, everything from Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix to Pearl Jam and Buena Vista Social Club. I fell in love with the blues when I began taking singing lessons at 13 with a jazz singer called Anca Parghel. She was an incredible talent and inspiration for me, and she introduced me to so many great blues and jazz standards. I pursued the jazz route for a while, moving to Paris to study jazz vocal performance. During this time, I sang in different bands and worked as a waitress for a while in a jazz café where I also got to perform on most nights, which was an amazing learning experience. Paris is a city like no other, with a great live music scene and many sources of inspiration for songwriting. But it wasn’t until I moved to London that I began to release my own music and explore more deeply who I am as an artist. London is a great place for new opportunities and collaboration. The composition of "Off-kilter" is notably classic. How do you decide on the sonic elements that make it into your songs, and what drew you to this particular aesthetic for this single? While I tend to begin writing my songs either on piano or guitar, I always find the groove to be a key element in contributing to the feel of a track. I suppose that’s where my inspiration from funk music comes in! I love the sound of a classic piano together with a gritty beat and building the vocal melody from there. That was the starting point for writing ‘Off-kilter’. Then Amanda (Slow Shudder) and I worked together virtually between Los Angeles and London to get the production right and really make the song come together. It’s quite stylistically different from my previous releases, such as my EP Mirror Lights, where I incorporated cello and a horn section, but I love experimenting with different sounds and aesthetics. Let's talk about the themes addressed in this record. You explore the journey of self-doubt and feeling out of place. Can you delve into the emotional space you were in while creating this song and how you translated those feelings into your music? Of course! ‘Off-kilter’ is an introspective song about experiencing moments of self-doubt and feeling like you don’t quite fit into other people’s expectations of you. I’ve often felt that I don’t fit into one particular box when it comes to my music or how I brand myself as an artist. This has oftentimes made me question whether I’m cut out for how the music industry works today since success relies so heavily on how good you are at your social media and managing to get onto the right playlists, what’s trendy, and so on. I think there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes, which puts independent artists in a less favorable position. So the lyrics in ‘Off-kilter’ really touch on these feelings of frustration and the internalized outside voices making you doubt what you’re capable of. I’d say the opening lines of the song are some of the most vulnerable lyrics out of the music I’ve released so far. What do you hope your audience takes away from this song? What is your message to those tuning in? I hope they enjoy listening to the song and are moved by it in some way. One of the main themes in ‘Off-kilter’ is self-doubt, but at the end of the day the song is also about self acceptance. Instagram Facebook

So buckle up and get ready for a wild ride with Stewart Taylor—it's a night you won't soon forget. What a beautiful, vulnerable single you've released with "Nightmares." What moments or experiences inspired you to create this passionate song? Thank you! Real nightmares inspired the song "Nightmares" I was experiencing then. I’ve struggled on and off with depression and anxiety for most of my life, and things got worse when my boyfriend left town for a work trip. When he returned, I was back in his bed, sleeping soundly for the first time in over a week. The next morning, I turned to him and said “you took the nightmares away.” The song practically wrote itself after that. What was your favorite part about creating the uplifting single "Nightmares?" Which point of the process was the highlight for you? Initially, the most exciting part was writing the song with my co-writer Ben Samama. Once the melodies started flowing, the song was done in under an hour. Those moments feel like Christmas morning to me. Filming the music video was another highlight because working in film is my second love. What was your experience collaborating with Benjamin Farren for the "Nightmares" music video? How did he help bring the visuals to life? Filming in DTLA with my director Benjamin Farren for the music video was a dream. I’ve done several projects with him, and he’s not afraid to let me get behind the camera and co-direct. I plan everything with him, from concept to execution. He lights and films the entire shoot, I style everything with my designers, and then I help edit the final video. He’s also a huge LGBTQ+ ally, and we have a lot of fun making magic together. How did you want "Nightmares" to feel and sound? What was your goal regarding the song's instrumental vibe and listening experience? My producer MADS and I wanted this song to feel like a relaxing drive through the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. We pictured a sunset over the ocean, dream-like synthesizers, soulful vocals, and a love song blasting out the windows. Why did you choose to release "Nightmares" as your first single of the year? How does it set the tone for your year ahead? I chose Nightmares as my latest single because it helped me through a difficult time. Many people feel lonely and struggle in silence, and sometimes all it takes is having a friend, a lover, or even a pet beside you to help lift you up. I hope this song helps! Instagram Artist Website
- Mattie Rose Paints Vivid Pictures Of Love And Loss In “Tyler”
Proudly hailing from just north of Fort Worth, Texas, is radiant country artist and singer-songwriter Mattie Rose, who has a thought-provoking, vulnerable release titled "Tyler" alongside an accompanying music video. Known for her raw and passionate music rooted in her Texas twang, Mattie Rose experimented with many genres before finally pursuing country in 2020. Having performed in musicals, worship bands, local bars, and festivals, Mattie Rose is another up-and-coming country artist to watch in 2024. Last year, Rose released her debut EP, Whiskey Me Away, featuring five beautiful songs representing the stages of post-heartbreak grief. One of them is "Tyler," track number four, with its reflective music video on YouTube. This song tugged at our heartstrings in the best way possible and for a few reasons... "Tyler" softly opens with lush country instrumentals that feel like the first break of light in the crisp morning air. But, alas, Mattie Rose's soothing and melancholy vocals linger to tell a relatable, vulnerable story of heartbreak. While discussing themes of regret, letting someone use your body for a fun night, and having your heart broken along the way, Mattie Rose digs deep into her inner emotions to convey a theme many of us have experienced, too. Mattie Rose belts Tyler's name upon the hook, sending chills down the spine while her gentle instrumentals provide a warm embrace. The reflective music video, which sees Rose by the lake and forest, wondering about the future and next steps, perfectly aligns with her cathartic lyricism - painting a vivid picture of love and loss in the listener's mind. "Tyler" is a genuinely impactful song bound to resonate with anyone who's experienced even the slightest heartbreak. Experience it yourself and find Mattie Rose's impressive discography on all digital streaming platforms. We are wildly impressed with the emotion and vulnerability provided in your recent release, "Tyler." What inspired you to write such a personal song like this? Howdy! Thanks for having me! I won't lie. Tyler is a hard song to dive into, but I was inspired to write it by remembering that everyone should be able to speak their truth. This one just happened to be a very personal truth. In all honesty, releasing such a vulnerable song taught me more about my audience than I thought it would. I learned that the best way to understand how I felt was to communicate with the world and see how many people felt like I did. Could you take us through your songwriting process for "Tyler?" Was it easy for you to open up and write such vulnerable lyrics for the world to hear? I wrote this song all on my own in my tiny dorm room during my freshman year of college. Weirdly enough, the day I wrote Tyler, it only took me an hour to get it down on pen and paper. I was so emotional that saying how I felt came easy, especially since the only person listening was Dakota (my guitar, haha). I didn't even think about what the world thought then because I had no plans to release it. I skipped half a year and realized there was no better song for the Whiskey Me Away EP than Tyler. What scenes or atmosphere did you want to bring to life in the "Tyler" music video? How did you want the music video to feel from the viewer's standpoint? Some might get confused by the lyric "Why'd you have to be her," but the song's purpose is that the name "Tyler" is a woman's name. I am asking Tyler why she had to be innocent because it would be much easier to blame her, but at the end of the day, she's in the same position I am. I wanted the video to feel like I was searching for something but realizing that I may never find it. However, I was trying to show just how freeing heartbreak can be. Our eyes felt more open to the beauty surrounding us, so I chose the gorgeous Radnar Park in Nashville, Tennessee, for the filming location. How does "Tyler" fit into the theme and concept of your debut EP, Whiskey Me Away? What role does "Tyler" play in the project? My thought process behind the Whiskey Me Away EP was to create the stages of a relationship. Starting with "Table For Two," where I am stood up and annoyed, then jumping to "California Cowboy," where I have found someone and fallen in love, moving on to the red flags in a relationship with "Day Drinkin' in a Dive Bar" where I realize I start to prefer being with my girls over my man, and then to "Tyler"… where my heart is shattered to pieces. Tyler is the falling action that leads into the country-rock climax in "Whiskey Me Away," where I realize I am better off on my own. On a more personal note, do you have any words of wisdom or advice for listeners going through a similar experience? How might "Tyler" help them see the light at the end of the tunnel? Lean on the people you know are there for you, and remember that the world doesn't end when you get knocked down. It is right there to welcome you when you get back up again. I think it's essential to come to terms with how you were burned, but let that fire fuel you into finding what you deserve. Instagram Facebook

How does the energy and connection with the audience shape your musical performances, and what do you hope listeners take away from the experience? Right now, we are focusing on making new music. Performing in front of a crowd is less important than making new music. We want our listeners to appreciate the effort we put into it; all our songs are original. As friends with a passion for real estate and music, how do you balance pursuing these dual creative paths, and do you see any intersections between the two realms that influence your artistic expression? Our professional lives are separate from our music. Music is our recreational enjoyment. Instagram Facebook

Buckle up for a ride through the dynamic landscapes of emotion as Marc Oliver invites you to experience the magic of "Your Song" in all its energetic, soulful glory. You have such a diverse realm of influences, and we're curious how this inspiration contributes to the unique sonic landscape in "Your Song" and how you approach blending these genres. It's good to be back. Thank you! I do not think about blending genres. I feel like every song can take its moment in time. It is a lot more fun to explore where things can go. Beto and I work really hard on nailing down where the songs go, how I write them, and how they flow. This one felt like a moving but exciting explosion of fun with a warm feeling. "Your Song" takes listeners on a journey of emotions. Please share the inspiration behind the profound love and memories embedded in the track. Yes, absolutely! This song is a story about Inga (my wife) and myself. I wrote about our first date, my feelings, and when I met her. I did it about a week before I asked her to marry me. I planned on taking her on a trip and asking her. About a week before we left, I thought I could write her a quick song to ask her, and it just came out. I was drawn, as always, to just put my thoughts down as a simple line that anyone could relate to. It felt very natural to say it how it is. I jumped in the studio two days before we left and laid down a demo. When I got back, Beto and I put it together. How do you approach songwriting, and how do lyrics convey the emotions you want your audience to feel? What message do you want listeners to take away from this track? When I'm songwriting, it starts as a feeling, a thought of what the song is about. That usually comes out as a word or a line and becomes the hook. With this song, I just wanted to put people with me, saying the things everyone would say. Where I've been, what I've learned, how much better it is here now with you, just simple thoughts that are easy to understand. I didn't think much about what I wanted anyone else to feel; when I wrote it, I felt good; the song felt really good and made me feel whole. And I think that resonates with people when they hear feelings they can understand. The message behind this, which I hope resonates with the listeners, is to "believe" and express yourself and your love fully. I hope someone uses this song to ask someone to marry them one day; maybe it will be played at people's weddings or their first dance. That would be cool. In what ways has the city's atmosphere and culture shaped your musical identity? Have you felt this change throughout your career? I don't know. I do not think it has been just my hometown; I've lived and have been in many places. I do see how much my writing has evolved over the years. I think I have grown so much with my music. Every year, month, and day, I feel better since I stopped caring about what anyone thought about my music. I don't care; I write because it feels good. It makes me feel good, and when people listen, they smile. Not much more than that. But it took me a while to stop caring. The music business has always been judgemental, and it took years to let that go. Life is a constant lesson. How do you keep your music fresh and unexpected, and what excites you most about surprising your audience with each new release? Well, I record almost everything I write. It could sound like an R&B track, a little hip-hop, maybe rock, or even musical theater stuff. But what you said about "Fresh and Unexpected" is not thinking about what things could sound like, what genre we want this to be in, or even if it should sound like the last track. I've thrown all that out the window and just put everything out. And so far, every song has been different, and that feels great. We live like that every day. People's playlists consist of rap, country, EDM, and pop. Sound changes with feelings, so, as artists, we should also be okay with changing things. Taylor Swift started as a country artist. Teaming up with Philippines-born artist Valiant Vermin, known for her bedroom pop tunes infused with electronic synths, the two artists powerfully take the stage with their new single "Never Gonna Get With Me." While it might seem like a playful, tongue-in-cheek song at first listen, it runs much deeper than you think, but that's precisely what we've expected from Ms. Vice. "Never Gonna Get With Me" kicks off with sweet unison vocals between Vice and Vermin, while Vice opens the first verse with her sugary stylings that sprinkle equal hints of sass and realness. Listening to her lyrics, she dives into the challenges and objectification faced by women in the music industry, particularly the experience of being viewed as sexual objects by their male counterparts. Valiant Vermin's radiant verse blesses the listener with a similar uplifting feel. At the same time, she touches on the weirdos and creeps, perhaps even in the music industry, and the experience of being offered opportunities with hidden 'expectations.' But, both ladies are standing their ground, sharing an anthem of integrity to gather women in music and encourage them to fight against objectification. This release hits home and comes at no better time of year than when love is in the air. Can you please shine a light on the inspiration behind the song and what emotions or experiences drove its creation? This song came about during a time when I felt like I was going on dead-end dates. Nothing was going anywhere, and although I felt like we were having fun getting to know each other, I knew I was wasting time. The lyrics of "Waste Time" feel straight from the heart. How do you tap into a specific frame of mind when writing, and how do personal experiences shape the lyrical narratives in your songs, particularly in this track? When writing my lyrics, I usually write from an extremely honest place. I'll freestyle melodies and lines but don't save a line unless I feel like I'm saying something other people wanna say but don't. With this track, I thought about all the dates or short-term relationships I was experiencing and wanted to make a letter expressing my honesty before anyone got too involved or got the wrong idea. How do you feel your music has evolved, especially genre-blending, and what do you aim to convey through this sonic diversity? When I first started making music, I was heavily inspired by boombap rap and wanted to come up with profoundly introspective but catchy songs. Over time, I gravitated towards melody-driven genres like pop and RNB because of how fun it is to sing and express lyrics differently. I enjoy blurring the lines between genres and dipping my toes into new sounds while still sounding original. What message do you hope your audience takes away from "Waste Time?" The message I hope my audience takes away from "Waste Time" is simply understanding that things may not always be forever, but they may be fun while it lasts. What can your fans expect from your future projects as you gear up to open for other artists and tour NY? Are there specific sonic landscapes or themes you want to explore in your upcoming musical endeavors? Regarding my upcoming musical endeavors, my fans can expect a full-length RNB project before summer. It sounds reminiscent of Timberland's production, with relatable narratives about modern-day relationships. The project is called "Wrong Place, Wrong Time," it should be coming out sometime soon. I'm excited to jump into the RNB space and put my best foot forward regarding narratives and songwriting. Instagram Facebook
