- TEMPOH Slow Tackle Addiction, Relationships, And More In New Release, “I Just Need Enemies”
The enigmatic musical shapeshifters conjure a bewitchingly entertaining performance ripe with tasteful contrasts between sound and lyric content. TEMPOH Slow is a captivating musical collective that embraces the complexities of human desires and the intricate balance between what we need and what we think we need. They’ve quickly become known for their ability to capture and infuse feelings of raw emotion into their music via striking instrumentals and vivid lyricism, captivating listeners with genre-bending production and vocal performances chock full of energy. Gleefully making their home in a space of music that defies conventional genre descriptions, their sound is as nuanced as it is varied. Part of the reason TEMPOH Slow’s music has connected with listeners on such a deep level is their ability to make music that serves as a conduit for raw emotions. TEMPOH Slow is aggressively uncompromising when it comes to the execution of their musical vision, leading to fully fleshed-out visions wherever their names are attached. They’ve already dazzled audiences with their previous releases, “Motivation” and “Sleep When I Die,” which garnered buzz alongside critical acclaim, and their new single, “I Just Need Enemies,” promises to live up to the stellar record they’ve set for themselves. “I Just Need Enemies” dives into complicated issues, such as addiction struggles, with an enthusiasm that we’ve come to expect from TEMPOH Slow. As soon as the song begins, listeners are transported into a dream-like state by upbeat, energetic instrumentals that belly the more somber matters hidden in the lyrics. Lyrics like “Oh god, oh god, I'm back in this hell” are delivered with an energy you wouldn't expect if you just saw the words, further creating fascinating contradictions between the dream-like feel of the song with the heavy subject matter of the lyrics. Although it’s undoubtedly a tricky line to walk, TEMPOH Slow does this exceedingly well, and we can’t wait to see what else they have in store. With each release, TEMPOH Slow continue to carve out their lane, marching to the beat of their drums. Whenever you’re ready, tap in and stream TEMPOH Slow’s “I Just Need Enemies,” available now on all streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, TEMPOH Slow! We loved “I Just Need Enemies;” we thought it was pretty cool how the song’s upbeat, energetic rhythm concealed how serious the lyrical matter was! What inspired you to choose that kind of beat to go with the lyrics of “I Just Need Enemies?” Could you take us through the creative process a little? This is how we approach all of our music. There are 2 ways of interpreting anything in life. With evil, there is a good; when things are dark, there is a bright side. This song started with a beat our friend Kevin sent us - He’s the man. We wrote a lot of our last EP with him. With this song, I wanted to write about my friend who is constantly refusing to learn from their struggles. It seems like they didn’t care for friends or the positives in life anymore. They constantly gave in to their enemies - drugs and poor relationships. I felt like all they needed were things that brought them down. We don’t force anything in this project. If we like something sonically, it just sparks inspiration lyrically. It all just makes sense. Nick and I are such opposites, but that’s why this works. That’s my homie. We are all about juxtapositions. Where did TEMPOH Slow the band comes to be, and how did you choose that name? I produced super ambient music years ago, which was my SoundCloud handle. I had always made heavy music, and it was my first time making mellow music, so I called it Slow Tempoh. I flipped the name bc I wanted it to sound like Tempoh was a person. I also spell my name w an h, so yep! What goals do you aim to achieve through your music? I want to make a difference to people. We wanna play shows. We want to collaborate with people we can grow from. We want to keep creating. I constantly get down about the industry, so I don’t know how to move through that space. We want to create and be around real people. How would you describe TEMPOH Slow’s sound to someone who hasn’t heard your music before? Sounds that usually would not make sense together make sense. We hope people see that we are pushing it. We don’t want to make one-dimensional music. What’s next for TEMPOH Slow? Can we expect to hear more new music soon, and do you have anything you want to tell your fans? We are going to keep dropping music. We have songs that we are going to drop monthly. We want people to hear all the sides of the project. We hope to tour a bit in the next year. We have a lot of music coming out that explores an entirely different side of the project. We are about to put out the heaviest music we have ever made. Instagram Facebook
- Tiger KiD Wants You To Let Go And Embark On A Liberating Journey On “Drive”
The LA-based rock outfit wants you to have the courage to start your journey for a better future. In a world where artists are often scared to evolve and experiment, Tiger Kid, also known as Michael Canton, wasn’t afraid to buck the trend. Formerly a rock solo artist hailing from Los Angeles, California, Canton broke away from his previous endeavors, transforming his one-man act into an influential 5-piece band. This evolution allowed the new Tiger Kid to reach musical heights it had not seen before, channeling the raw energy of late 90s hard rock and striking a masterful balance with the contemporary sounds of alternative music. The result was The new iteration of Tiger Kid is comprised of the visionary Michael Canton as the lead vocalist and guitarist, the exceptional talents of Gaston Brey on lead guitar, the incredibly skilled Keith Erickson on drums, the electric Cason Cohen on bass and vocals, and the excellent Anna Montgomery on keyboards and vocals. As one would expect from this gathering of considerable musical talent, this expanded lineup brings depth and versatility to Tiger Kid’s sonic landscape, enhancing and diversifying its musical vision, something apparent in its new releases. According to Canton, Tiger Kid’s latest release, “Drive,” encapsulates the yearning to escape from various aspects of life, whether it be a suffocating relationship, a dead-end job, or simply feeling trapped in the monotony of everyday existence. The song beautifully portrays the desire to leave it all behind, jump into a car, and embark on a liberating journey toward a better future. Over vigorous instrumentals led by synths reminiscent of nostalgic rock n’ roll, lyrics like “I don't wanna waste my time with all your lies / I just want to close my eyes and drive” are delivered with a hopeful, empowering cadence that leaves you feeling like every dream, every rebirth you can imagine is attainable. With their irresistible blend of rock styles and infectious energy, Tiger Kid is poised to make a lasting impact on music scenes everywhere, and we can’t wait to see how far they’ll go. Tap in and stream Tiger Kid’s “Drive” out now. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Tiger Kid! We loved “Drive,” the song's feel was so inspirational, but it also felt so catchy! Could you take us through your creative process with this song? Thanks for having me! “Drive” was a 50/50 collaboration between myself and my good friend/musician/composer/and Tiger Kid Producer Bert Selen. We wanted to bring both of our songwriting styles together and see what we could create, and the outline for “Drive” emerged after our first writing session. So, you mentioned that Tiger Kid used to be a solo act. What was it like to join a band for the first time, and how does your new dynamic help you make music? It’s been quite the journey from when I first started Tiger Kid solo to its current five-piece form. At first, it was everyone simply learning the parts, but the more we played as a unit, the more individual each part became. Some of the songs now are arranged slightly differently or have unique embellishments, only making them better. The new music coming out of the whole band now has so much more complexity and layers, both instrumentally and vocally. Do you all have a favorite musical memory as a group? It was the first time we played in our new rehearsal space, and we could hear all of the vocals and backing vocals well, seemingly for the first time. We have 3 part harmonies on most songs, so it hit us in the face when we could finally hear them over the music, and it also showed us that the vocals were a weapon as much as the music was. How would you describe your music to a listener who hasn’t heard your music before? We are a rock band, but we sail a few genres. Much of my writing style is rooted in the late 90s, early 2000s Alt-rock scene, which bleeds through in multiple ways. The intros are immediately catchy, the chorus is massive, and we have excellent, multi-layered vocal harmonies everywhere. The most recent addition of synth opens many more doors while remaining a rock band at our core. What’s next for Tiger Kid? Do you have any goals you want to accomplish by the end of the year, and is there anything you want to say to your fans? With the release of Drive, we plan on promoting it as hard as we can and backing that up with tons of live shows. We’re hoping to tour a bit over the summer and start branching out into other states by the end of the year. Festivals are the short-term goal, as Tiger Kid is made for festival crowds. We appreciate all the love and look forward to seeing new faces and winning over new fans. Say hi on Insta, stream us on Spotify, or ask Alexa to play songs by Tiger Kid. We’re thankful for each stream. Instagram
- Greg Armstrong’s “This Is Your Life 2023”: The Classic Ballad Reimagined
Renowned musician and producer Greg Armstrong has recently unveiled his latest project, "This Is Your Life 2023," a heartfelt homage to the iconic Ronnie James Dio in support of his charity, The Stand Up And Shout Foundation. Inspired by the powerful 2022 documentary "DIO: Dreamers Never Die," Armstrong embarked on a journey to reimagine Ronnie's timeless 1996 composition "This Is Your Life." Despite Ronnie's unfortunate passing from stomach cancer a few years after the original song's release, its lyrics have proven to withstand the test of time. Within its verses lies a prophetic message, urging listeners to embrace living in the present and appreciate the gift of being alive. Captivated by the beauty and authenticity of the song, Armstrong assembled a collective of exceptionally talented individuals to collaborate on a project, breathing new life into Ronnie's poetic ballad. Armstrong enlisted a stellar lineup of musicians for the composition, including Todd Suchermann (Styx) on drums, Angus Clark (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) on guitar, Brian HBK (Hairball) on bass, Tommy Barbarella (Prince) on strings, and Matt Kirkwold (Majesties) providing mesmerizing guitar solos. The ballad begins with a laid-back drum pattern and a mesmerizing guitar melody, setting the stage for Robert Mason's (Warrant) soulful vocal performance. His rich vibratos and tone intertwine seamlessly with the melody, creating an exhilarating and emotional listening experience. The song's mixing and co-production were expertly handled by veteran producer and engineer Chuck Alkazian, who brought all the elements together by paying respect to the essence of Ronnie's original vocals. Their collective efforts result in an impressive outcome—a warm, electric, and passionate soundscape that is a beautiful tribute to the legendary artist. For more information on The Stand Up And Shout Foundation, visit www.diocancerfund.org Welcome to BuzzMusic Greg Armstrong. What struck you the most when watching “DIO: Dreamers Never Die,” and what inspired you to reimagine the original “This Is Your Life?" The personal side of Ronnie, the heartfelt side. He was an entertainer. This is ALL entertainment. He got that. The imagery, the bombast, the stage persona. It came through in the documentary, his “real” side, and a little insight into the real relationships with some of the band members and Wendy. Loved that song…the way it was originally recorded…but What If? This was not made for a radio single, as not his typical fare. So rather than re-do one of his monsters hits (as has been done by many before), I chose this one. How much time did you and your team spend composing the arrangement of “This Is Your Life 2023?” From start to finish, it was a 7-month project. How has your creative process evolved from when you first started producing music to now collaborating with multiple artists on a project? Collaboration is an art in itself. As a producer, you need to give direction, know when to stand back, let the artists perform, and bring their “heart” into it. Sometimes…NIOT knowing someone really well can bring you to even greater heights, as it is just a human “musician” thing…you want to impress the “gang” you are working with, so you bring your A game. I’ve found that every time I collaborate with artists that don’t know each other (like this one)….as long as they are rock-solid players and have “big ears,”…it brings it to an even higher level. Collaboration has taught me how to be a better producer and a better musician. What aspects of Ronnie James Dio’s legacy do you believe make him an enduring figure in the music industry? He has an iconic voice. The word icon gets thrown around a lot. But there are just a few the word is fitting for. Ronnie is one of those. He was one-of-a-kind. You hear his voice, and you know instantly who it is. That is his legacy, as he pioneered many ROCK voices, including Robert Mason, who sang on this. What do you hope listeners take away from “This Is Your Life 2023?" The power of the lyric. The meaning of it. This is your NOW…do something with it. Take the chance; get outside of your box. In essence…dreamers never die. I think this version is more “single” orientated and perhaps polished up from the strictly piano and string version from 1996, and maybe it will open up some new ears and voices to Dio’s legacy. I’m a long-time fan, but it is my hope this inspires others to dig into his catalog and find out he did songs like this…his spectrum was great, although known for his Sabbath, Rainbow, and Dio hits….he was fairly prolific and wrote a lot of material over the years. - Prince Amine Grows Roots With “Afrikan Boy”
Prince Amine, an artist defined by his multicultural journey, injects an impressive blend of Afrobeats, R&B, and Hip Hop into his latest album, "Afrikan Boy." Born in Morocco, raised in Spain, and later transplanted to Montreal, Canada, Prince Amine's unique cultural experiences are imprinted into his soundscape, creating a vibrant and distinctively diverse musical identity. Influenced by the legendary Motown and R&B melodies shared by his performer father, Prince Amine started as a young artist in high school, and today, his success reverberates in the hip-hop scene from Montreal to the United States. His previous albums, such as "XVIII" and "Hram Vybez," were stepping stones to the creation of "Afrikan Boy." His hard work and dedication to these projects were noticed, as evidenced by "Hram Vybez" reaching #9 on the NACC Hip Hop Chart. In 2020, PrinceAmine released a concept album, "Doubted Child," exploring the ebbs and flows of an emerging artist's journey. His tireless efforts to diversify his musicality led him to produce a new song each month in 2021, ranging from hip hop and rap to drill, kompa, and R&B. With his evolving musical endeavors, he has now focused on Afrobeats with the release of "Afrikan Boy." With the debut of "Afrikan Boy," PrinceAmine offers an undeniably Afrocentric soundscape filled with tribal beats and organic instruments. The tribal essence exudes from each song, wrapping listeners in a warm, rhythmic embrace that pulls at the very roots of Afrikan musical tradition. The smooth vocals present Prince Amine as a melody-forward artist unafraid to expose his delivery's vulnerability. A delicate balance is achieved in each song through the integration of heavy kicks, sharp piano lines, crisp shakers, and smooth guitars over the laid-back, calming beats. "for my people" is an authentic testament to Prince Amine's roots, a soulful homage to his people filled with the raw rhythmic cadence of Afrobeats. The emotional vulnerability is again seen in "On the Road," where PrinceAmine, with the relaxed yet dynamic beats, describes a nomadic love story that is both alluring and bittersweet. "leeches," a gritty commentary on materialistic desires, stands out with its catchy beats, interwoven with a narrative on the allure of money. In contrast, "Bomaye" delves into a more passionate and romantic facet of Prince Amine's songwriting, with lyrics rich in sensuous imagery layered over a mellow rhythm. "neighborhood love" offers an intimate exploration of romance and desire, its mellow rhythm juxtaposed against lyrics full of fiery yearning. "shayo" plays with the intoxicating thrill of the party scene, its energetic beats and lively lyrics painting a picture of the vibrant nightlife. The songs "Spell on Me" and "love potion" further delve into the realms of romance and enchantment, their languid beats and heartfelt lyrics creating an aura of passionate mystique. "bout my life" stands as a poignant autobiographical narrative, an intimate sharing of PrinceAmine's personal journey and struggles set against the rhythmic backdrop of Afrobeats. Finally, "Pura Vida" offers a reflective conclusion to the album, its lyrics grappling with loss and mourning yet maintaining a resilient spirit of hope against the rhythmic cadence of the music. This intimate exploration of diverse themes, from personal struggles and reflection to love and societal commentary, all packaged within the magnetic allure of Afrobeats, affirms "Afrikan Boy" as a testament to Prince Amine's evolving artistry. This album hints at a promising future for Prince Amine as he continues to expand his musical repertoire while staying rooted in his unique multicultural identity. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Prince Amine. Cheers to letting your soul shine on your latest album, "Afrikan Boy," featuring a strong blend of Afrobeat vibes. Can you share how you developed the specific sound that permeates the album? What guided you to choose this sound as the primary theme for "Afrikan Boy?" Aye, much love! It came with much studying and opening my ears to many types of artists and different rhythms from specific regions. The feel and vibrant energy made me go with this sound. It inspired me to get groovin' and set my pen on my paper. Your lyrics in the "Afrikan Boy" album often expose personal experiences and vulnerability. Could you share the songwriting process for this album and how you decided to incorporate such personal elements in your lyrics? The process for this album was rather fluid for me. Speaking from experience, telling stories, and letting everything out was second nature. I decided I wanted to switch things up and speak up about things I’ve lived because I came from being someone who always kept things to myself. I worked on everything from scratch alongside my talented and longtime boy Frank, a stage name known as Frank'emcy. He has that music in his blood, just like me, and we went through trial and error until we felt inspired and funky enough by the production. We worked with other producers on some tracks to infuse their style, like the very talented Kenzhelo, who I call Kenzulu, for "Pura Vida" and PrinceK, who worked on “Neighborhood Love,” a true genius in that R&B and kompa world. Also, I'm a big fan of strings, so we tried to tap into that with Greg and Noah, two highly talented guitarists. "Afrikan Boy" shows that the Afro-centric beats and organic instruments significantly influence the album's overall mood. Could you describe how you and your production team chose and created these beats to enhance the album's message and feel? I worked on everything from scratch alongside my talented and longtime boy Frank, stage name known as Frank'emcy. He has that music in his blood just like myself and we went through trial and error until we felt inspired and funky enough by the production. We worked with other producers on some tracks to infuse their own style, like the very talented Kenzhelo, who I call Kenzulu, for "Pura Vida" and PrinceK, who worked on “Neighborhood Love”, a true genius in that R&B and kompa world. Also I'm a big fan of strings so we made sure to tap into that with Greg and Noah, two highly talented guitarists. How has the multicultural influence from Morocco, Spain, and Canada, deeply ingrained in your personal and musical journey, contributed to the shaping of "Afrikan Boy?" Growing up being surrounded by so many different cultures and practices truly enriched me as a person. As an artist I took all of that and embraced it and created something so unique yet familiar to many. Damn that was deep, I sounded philosophical with that one. Moving forward, how do you envision the growth and evolution of your music? Do you anticipate future albums like "Afrikan Boy" that focus on a specific genre or cultural influence, or are you planning to explore new genres and styles? I see my music going beyond genius. So well written and executed. I just see myself levelling up like crazy from here. Just being able to work with people who are more experienced than I am will help me grow. I’m looking forward to the big leagues baby. Top 1, Doubted Child to the world. But for now I plan on staying in this genre and thugging it out. But I would love to be bouncing to different sounds as well and collaborating with different artists and producers. Instagram Facebook
- KingDarius TheGreat Is Back With "Self Love (Re-Up) [Ft. Hayzell B]"
“I made another hit record; that’s on my grandaddy.” Atlanta-based rapper and songwriter KingDarius TheGreat is back and has made a statement with his new uplifting single “Self Love (Re-Up) [Ft. Hayzell B].” As the song begins, Hayzell B steps into the spotlight, glistening. Her soft, smooth vocals soothe the soul and heal open wounds that were once neglected. Stating that “negativity has no place” in her life, she sets the tone for the rest of the record. KingDarius TheGreat then displays his experienced penmanship out in the open for the world to see. His high-energy performance delivers consecutive clever, enlightened puns directing the listener towards higher vibrations. He keeps the listener engaged while sharing his wisdom along the struggles of his journey with playful bars like “Like I don’t see you, but I got Visine in my third eye.” This seasoned veteran has had past success and virality being a member of the hip-hop group “C-Side,” in addition to songwriting opportunities for numerous Billboard Hot 100 hits for Flo-Rida, T-Pain, G-Unit, and many more. This perfectly translates to the weight of the playful yet soul-provoking lyrics provided in “Self Love (Re-Up) [Feat. Hayzell B]”. The record's production has a seemingly classic vibe with its nostalgic, lush melodic keys and a moving hip-hop rhythm that naturally carries both vocals like water down a stream. Let us not forget the beautiful Male-Female romantic dynamic in the second verse honoring the divine feminine. “Treat my empress like royalty, that’s what she is,” KingDarius TheGreat sheds light on a subject that seems to be dim in Hip-Hop as of late. Unsurprisingly, the single is already doing numbers; helping listeners discover the importance of self-love and empowerment keeps them returning for more. Raise your vibration with some inspiration from KingDarius TheGreat new single, "Self Love (Re-Up) [Ft Hayzell B]," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, KingDariusTheGreat. We genuinely admire your honest and uplifting approach in your recent single with Hayzell B, "Self Love (Re-Up)." What inspired the creation of this empowering hit? There are a few different elements to this record in terms of the inspiration to create it, one being the importance of exhibiting self Love within a world climate that all too often promotes a false understanding of what a perfect image is or who you're supposed to be based on your career of choice and etcetera. I firmly believe that when you're called for a particular role in this life, and you know deep down what that role is, you should embrace that understanding and never allow someone else to dictate what you should or shouldn't be striving to become. The song also acts as a creative public service announcement to the mainstream rap genre landscape and the violent turn it has taken over the years. It's a plea to the artists to be more respectful to one another, value love, value life, and embrace positivity. Lastly, but equally meaningful, it is a tribute to close loved ones we may have lost over the years. How did you cross paths with the talented Hayzell B, and what pulled you to utilize her energy on this record? Hayzell B and I are both within the Atlanta, Georgia, music scene. While we both shared mutual work-related peers, we had never collaborated with one another, but I was definitely an enormous fan of hers from afar, hoping to work with her when the opportunity presented itself. That opportunity manifested into reality when key turns of events took place, resulting in me having this truly inspirational record on my hands in Self Love (Re-Up), but in search of the perfect female vocalist. This record needed someone who was genuine, powerful, confident in themselves and in what they do, someone who seeks truth, with a personality that is as real as it gets. This record needed Hayzell B. So, a business associate of mine (DJ Nuclear) linked us to one another, then Hayzell B and myself got in the studio after she heard the song and was totally down to be a part of this record, and it's a journey to success. The chemistry while working together was incredibly awesome (which should've been expected, sharing the Taurus Zodiac), and she impeccably delivered the chorus, coupled with elegance and grace. Working alongside her was truly an honor, and I look forward to continuing our musical alliance on future projects. You briefly mention your grandfather at the end of the song; how was your relationship with him? My relationship with my Grandfather was as great and wholesome as any grandson would have with a loving Grandad. He was extremely caring towards me and wanted the absolute best for me from when I entered this planet to this moment as he looked over me from the cosmos. I learned a lot about different musical artists that were well before my time, credited to him, which helped shape me into the artist I am today. He also was one of the first to tell me how great of a writing ability I have and to explore more writing opportunities within this industry as I continued further into the business. I often regret that I didn't get to spend more time with him during the latter part of his life, but his love was so gigantic towards me growing up that it's truly enough to last an eternity and beyond. After listening to the record, it’s clear that you’ve had to go through trials and tribulations to get to where you are now. What’s your advice to those who find it difficult to come out of a similar situation positively? My advice is to stay the course. Like Shakespeare's HAMLET, "This above all to thine own self be true." Take the time to learn who you are as an individual, then focus on becoming the absolute best version of that individual. When seasonal relationships close, allow them to do just that. The higher power will keep those who should be around and remove those who need not be present for the forthcoming journey. Learn from that time, let go, and embrace the new beginnings. It's a lot less stressful that way. Is there more heat on the way? In this game, there better ALWAYS be more heat on the way; otherwise, you're in the wrong business, my friends. Yes, I have more material en route. Keep an eye out for a song titled THAT'S AI where I attack the good, the bad, and the ugly in reference to Artificial Intelligence within the music industry and society. Stay Tuned. Self Love (Re-Up) video will be coming soon, so everyone is on the lookout for that as well. SOCIALS
- Kayo Da Don Takes A Trip to “L.A.X”
From the city of Albany, New York, Kayo Da Don emerged onto the music scene in 2008 as an indie hip-hop artist. With multiple releases under his belt, including “Channel 10," “Big Business,” and “Wrist In The Trap,” and mentorship from some of upstate New York’s most influential music veterans, Kayo is forging his reputation as a promising talent in the music industry. In his latest single, “L.A.X,” he encapsulates the opulent atmosphere of Studio City, resulting in a track that balances flash with class. The track sets off with a mellow bassline, soon joined by the soulful croons of a saxophone winding through the soundscape. Reverberated cymbals glisten over the melody, crafting a sophisticated ambiance. The listener is swept away into a world of opulence; chauffeur-driven luxury cars, private jets, and champagne in the sky. The song captures the essence of Old Hollywood with its jazz-infused harmonies and rich instrumentals. “L.A.X” is a testament to Da Don’s self-made, self-financed ascent as an artist. After experiencing an altercation in 2020, his hunger for success has only intensified, and this song portrays his triumphs. While he raps about tangible assets such as high-end jewelry, luxury cars, and designer clothing, he doesn’t gloss over the work it takes to reach this level of comfortability. His lyrics highlight the importance of financial stability, the restless grind, and maintaining focus in attaining a flashy lifestyle. From beginning to end, “L.A.X” takes listeners to experience a piece of Kayo Da Don’s life. The track immerses you in his world through thoughtful lyricism and intricate melodies, bringing you along for the ride. “L.A.X” is available now on all streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic Kayo Da Don, and a huge congrats on your latest drop, "L.A.X." What inspired you to pursue a career in music? I started doing music in 2008 but took it seriously after I got out of the cage in 2020. I realized I had many people to care for and fans supporting my music, so I had to get focused. In your latest single, “L.A.X,” you speak about crafting a life of luxury but doing so on your dime. What were the biggest obstacles you’ve faced as a self-funded, self-made artist? I stay on my grind-heavy, so I don't have time or energy to let a lot of stuff bother me. The main obstacle has been plugging into legit opportunities to build my brand and working with the right people because this industry has many fakes. Since emerging onto the hip-hop scene in 2008, how would you compare the music industry to its current state today? There are a lot of dope new talent and platforms to get your music distributed, so it's easy for anybody to release music. You just gotta be able to drop hit quality records like artists were back then and network with the right business folks to open up doors. Nothing has changed except more access to technology and ways for independent artists to build a buzz without a label. What impact do you hope to have on your audience through your music? I make music to inspire others to hustle hard, live life to the fullest, and stay motivated. Music is my outlet, so if it makes me feel like a boss and ready to conquer the world, I hope others can feel that too. I know what it's like to be in a dark place and have to pick yourself up, so that's what I'm about. If you were given the opportunity to collaborate with any artist, who would be your top choice? I could drop names, but anyone putting out hits right now doesn't sound like anybody else. I'm focused on honing in on my sound right now, but it would be lit to work with Conway The Machine, Benny The Butcher, Drake, Kendrick Lamar...whoever - I'm holding my own next to anybody. Instagram
- Rice Shoots For The “Starz” On His Latest Release
In a blend of new-wave pop music emerges up-and-coming indie artist Rice. With a desire to spread love and goodwill through his music, Rice’s bright melodies and uplifting lyricism are bound to capture the hearts and ears of listeners. His musical journey began in his formative years, participated in talent show performances and played various instruments. Rice explored music production and songwriting as his passion flourished, channelling his experiences to connect with the world. In his latest release, “Starz,” Rice’s musical talents shine through, creating a track embodying summer's essence. The song takes off with a light-hearted synth melody followed by reverberating snaps, setting the stage for a relaxed and carefree ambiance. As the music crescendos into the first chorus, listeners are offered a glimpse into the song's fundamental theme; Rice expresses the value of celebrating someone as they are and aspires to be their beacon of light during moments of despair. In the face of stress, anxiety, loneliness or uncertainty, having the backing of a supportive friend or perhaps someone closer to your heart is truly invaluable. Rice’s passionate vocals seamlessly complement the lively melody coursing through the verse, evoking a sense of sincerity and raw emotion. As he continues to ride the wave of the beat, astral-inspired synths and pads embellish the track, creating a cosmic and starry texture, suggesting a connection to the song’s title, “Starz." Though easily overlooked, these subtle details add complexity to Rice’s music and highlight his consideration of all aspects of his work. As the track ends, listeners are met with the same laid-back synths from the song’s introduction. Accompanying this is the fading echoes of his concluding words, “Back to life,” which leave behind a feeling of hope in listeners' minds. “Starz” is available now across all platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Rice and congratulations on your latest release, "Starz." We’d love to know how you came up with the concept for your latest release “Starz?” I felt I was around people bigger than me, whether personality-wise or we’re talking like a bracket. That’s when I also started realizing that I had abilities that other people weren’t as talented at as I had skills that I brought to the table that were needed so the people that I thought were bigger than me in ways that were more conscious to me became the people that I work with as peers with people that I could see eye to eye with an eye was level with that’s where the meaning of STARZ comes from just that feeling of looking at someone that’s like bigger than you will ever be. Still, in all actuality, I think everybody shouldn’t feel that there not as good. We’re all talented in different ways. It’s just about finding what it is that makes you talented. Returning to the beginning of your musical journey, was there a defining moment that drove you to pursue music as your career? When I first went to the studio with my brother M-EZY, and he was creating a song, it just felt magnetic, like electricity going through my veins or, like however else you can describe, I guess butterflies in your stomach. I just knew that’s where I was supposed to be in the studio What would you say has been the biggest influence on your style of music? I think my biggest influence on how I make music is mainly the people I’m around that I work with and also just listening to the evolution of music whether we’re talking about NWA or that’s not truth, or we’re talking about white, even Janet Jackson Frank Ocean White and in the future is to look looking at Lil Durk J. Cole Jay Z it’s like all lie a lot of things of influence the way I make music, especially the way I live my life that’s probably my biggest influence of music. What’s your favourite part of the music production process? My favourite part of the production process is to go to the engineering and watch your vocals go from Raw to the quality on the radio. Why it’s not the end quality or the end result that I like? I’m so intrigued by it’s more of the process of getting there. I guess the road is always a little bit better than the view afterwards just because you know it could’ve gone 1 million different ways, And it came out a certain way that you were content with or like love jamming. If you listen to the two different versions of STARZ, one on the World Beat project and the Starz (radio edit ), two completely different sounds, but some listeners may not hear the difference. If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be? If you had asked me this question when I started doing music, the automatic answer would’ve been J. Cole even said Kendrick Lamar just because I was so heavily influenced by the way they spit. They’re able to keep the woke rap alive nowadays, I don’t wanna say that I can pinpoint it on one artist, but if we could have a Juice WRLD come back that would probably be the number one artist for me. If I had to choose an artist that we still have available, I don’t think this would be a runner-up route of any kind because I want to work with everybody, but Selena Gomez definitely will be on top of that list. - Brenda Kahn Says “Alright OK”
Brenda Kahn, who’s been spinning words and melodies into soul-stirring tunes since the 90s, is back on the scene with her latest single, "Alright OK." Known for her genre-blurring craft, she’s an artist who dances seamlessly across punk, jazz, country, and spoken word. In addition to her tunes, she's a champion for female artists, rallying behind their voices and talents with Womanrock.com, her brainchild. Let's not forget that Brenda doesn't merely confine her creativity to music. She has a children's album to her credit, 'Rocket to the Moon,' and a quirky, relatable book of poetry for moms, "Ode to Chores: the Good, the Bad, and the Laundry". She’s more than an artist; she’s a storyteller, a lighthouse, guiding her listeners and readers towards unexpected shores of insight and inspiration. With "Alright, OK," Brenda brings us an aural escape to a serene beach. You can feel the sun-soaked sand under your feet as the mellifluous guitar notes flow out. The drums aren’t out to steal the show, but their soft rhythm is a palpable pulse, a heartbeat that reminds you to breathe and sway to the island rhythm. Oh, and Brenda’s voice! Listening to her sing is like being in a Bob Ross painting. It's a masterstroke of soothing reassurance, creating an emotional landscape that is equally vibrant and tranquil. The lyrics of "Alright, OK" are a heartfelt nudge, a friendly reassurance that it's okay to be lost and find hope in the curves of creativity. The world might be spinning out of control, but let's create our little world and, for a moment, be. "Alright OK," is Brenda Kahn at her most comforting, uplifting best. It’s not just a song; it's a journey, a guide, a quiet anthem for those who find strength in the thrum of creativity. So, as Brenda serenades us with her hopeful tunes, one can’t help but anticipate the magic she will weave in her future endeavors. Get lifted with this one today, available on all platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Brenda! Kudos to speaking your soul on "Alright OK," which seems to be bathed in such a calming aura. Could you share with us what led you to create such a soothing ambiance in this song? Hi BuzzMusic! I wrote this song during the pandemic when everything seemed so out of control. I was searching for a sound that felt grounding during a chaotic time. Maybe the soothing ambiance is me telling myself, "It’s gonna be OK." With the lyrics of "Alright OK," you've woven a tapestry of hope and acceptance. Could you delve a little deeper into the inspiration behind these poignant words? I love the image of a tapestry of hope and acceptance. The poetry in the verses reflected how I was seeing everything around me. The fragility of our world, like a dragonfly’s wing on one side, and people who stepped up during the pandemic who had superhero qualities on the other, like the lyric "walking barefoot on the sun." The lyrics are also a look back at my life, both good and bad, landing in a place of self-acceptance. Creative expression is the Alright/OK place in my life. "Alright OK" carries an island vibe that will make listeners feel like they're on a sandy beach. What inspired you to incorporate these laid-back elements into your music, especially for this song? I hear it as melancholy, a place where you’re looking forward and back simultaneously. It’s a pause. I feel there’s a wistfulness about the present moment when you notice it because it’s about to be the past, and just a minute ago, it was the future. It’s the same feeling I get when I walk barefoot toward the ocean, and the water hits my feet. So I guess the island vibe makes a lot of sense. One of the most captivating aspects of "Alright OK" is your voice, which is remarkably soothing and reminiscent of Bob Ross as he speaks while painting. How has your vocal style evolved over the years, and what were your considerations while vocalizing this particular song? I love Bob Ross and also Bob Dylan! For me, singing this song was a lot like storytelling. And I’ve gone in and out of leaning towards speaking or leaning towards singing, depending on the song, over the years. This one is a little of both. As an artist constantly evolving, what can your fans expect from you in the future, following the release of "Alright OK"? Can we anticipate more songs with a similar vibe, or are you planning to explore new musical territories? Throughout my career, I have touched on folk, rock, and elements of jazz and punk. We moved out to Boulder last year, and I am working with other musicians, so we’ll see what happens next. I plan to release singles a few times yearly and am working on a follow-up song now! To wrap it up, "Summer Bummer" takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. It's a relatable song, feels real, yet gets your foot tapping. It's the second single off their forthcoming album "Continuity Error(s)," and sets the bar high. Life In Idle is making waves and doing it their way. Reminisce with this one today, available on all platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic Life In Idle! Cheers to letting it all out on "Summer Bummer." The lyrics seem to evoke feelings of being alone with no summer love. Can you delve into what inspired these sentiments? Was there a particular experience that brought about this theme? Al: Absolutely - this song & many of our upcoming album sheds light on a past relationship that went sour. Sometimes a person is invested in another, and it’s never really reciprocated to them. David: We tried to tackle a lot of the heartache & disillusionment to find some healing & closure in all of it, which led us to write the song. The instruments in "Summer Bummer" have a nostalgic yet contemporary feel, with the late 90's and early 00's vibes. How did you navigate achieving this blend when crafting the guitar riffs and drum beats? John: The guitar part was influenced by a lot of the music I listened to then. I was listening to a lot of folk punk at the time. I specifically remember my mom being in the hospital to have open heart surgery. I went home right after they took her back for surgery and was filled with many emotions. I wasn't sure if I'd have a mom after this, so much of my emotion was taken over by sadness and grief. I sat on my patio in my hammock, which is basically what came out. The studio made a few modifications, but I think it still holds the essence of what was in my soul at the time. Al: The full band idea started as many of our songs do with guitar first, then drums. We added the lyrics & theme after we had crafted the instrumental to fit what we wanted to portray regarding vibes. We kept it sad and anthemic, and the rest fell into place.” Joe: I play the bass. The line "I remember a time where I would do anything for you" in "Summer Bummer" stands out. Could you share more about the story behind this lyric? What was the creative process like when writing such deeply personal lines? Al: In that line, we wanted to bring a sense of reminiscing back to being selflessly deeply committed to and willing to go to great lengths for someone you care about and the contrast between their previous unwavering dedication and the current state of the relationship, where their efforts have been disregarded and unreciprocated at best. David: We had parts of the lyrics written long before the instrumental. Then I pieced this one together as a collaborative effort between Al and me. I wrote the chorus and outro, and Al wrote the verse and the bridge. We creatively write lyrics as we experience things daily, which keeps our lyrics personal and close to the heart.” Joe: I play bass. How do you feel "Summer Bummer" integrates into the overall vibe and story of your upcoming LP, "Continuity Error(s)?" Does it represent a specific point in the narrative or sentiment you're trying to convey with the entire album? David: For sure - this song fits right, which is why it was the first official single. We re-released another version of an old song, “Catch 22,” that is included on the album as well since it was a perfect fit for our story in this album. Ultimately, we’re trying to convey the emotional journey of coming to terms with a failed relationship, acknowledging the pain while seeking healing and a brighter future. Looking past the imminent release of "Continuity Error(s)" and your performance at Ohio Is For Lovers festival, how do you envision the evolution of Life In Idle in the future? Will we see more emotionally charged anthems like "Summer Bummer," or are there new directions you're excited to explore? David: Thanks! Yeah, we are incredibly honored & excited to be performing with our friends in Hawthorne Heights again & all the other amazing artists at the festival. We are sitting on over 40 demos of some cool sounds & we can see ourselves keeping up with the emotionally charged post-emo rock vibe, but we also have some faster punk-sounding songs, and we have a few that hit a little heavier going forward. With maybe a dash of a little something different, you never know what will come. Instagram Facebook

I love and enjoy my art! Walk us through your creative process when composing a song from start to finish. When it comes to creating, most of the chords and melodies were created for this album before I did the drums to it. When it comes to writing, I often think about my past life experiences and try to bring them back to life in my music and keep it relatable. Most of my songs are written while travelling or doing daily things. Is there a specific place or environment that sparks your creativity when composing music? I like to go to all types of museums when I travel with my family and soak up things and pieces that others have created while also learning about history, so being around anything creative will spark my mind to create some art. If you could collaborate with any artist that's ever lived, which would you choose? Childish Gambino(Donald Glover). Instagram Facebook
