Scott stands – and we’re ready to join him. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Jimmy D. Scott! Congratulations on releasing your latest music video for “Enough is Enough.” You do a fascinating job at allowing us to feel your passion through the screen. What was it like filming this visual component? Filming this video was a true labor of love. Could you please take us into the moment you decided to create both the song and video for “Enough is Enough”? What were the thoughts going through your mind? Because of the senseless violence happening daily around the country and the world. I asked myself, “What could I do as an artist to help this dire situation?” So I decided to write a song and produce a video that would send a message: enough is enough. In What ways can your audience do their part to help put gun violence to a halt? Talk to your loved ones, friends, and family. Talk to everybody, talk with people you don't know. Tell them violence is not the way; tell them they don't need a weapon to solve a problem. Ask them to try love instead of hate. Being in the music industry for a vast period of time, have you ever taken a stance on other political issues that you feel strongly about? Back in the late ’70s and early ’80s, there were rash child killings in Atlanta. So I wrote and released a song titled Be Careful. The track was distributed by Clarence (Pee Wee) Harris and the committee for student rights. In 1996 I wrote a song for Bill Clinton's reelection campaign titled Keep Bill on the Hill. The song was financed and distributed by Joe Davis and the UAW. What's next for you? I'm currently working on a new album project that I'm very excited about. Planning to release it in early 2023. - The Tribe Band Are Soaking Up the Holiday Spirit in “This Christmas”
The Los Angeles-based collective of musicians, The Tribe Band, teams up with an all-star cast of seasoned recording artists for their rendition of Donny Hathaway's 1970 Christmas hit, "This Christmas." The Tribe Band comprises a collective of talented musicians. This time around, they're joined by the likes of Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Richard Marx, Melissa Manchester, Lamont Dozier, Jr., Freda Payne, Frank McComb, Florence LaRue, and more to pay homage to the first Christmas song written and recorded by an African American, the late great Donny Hathaway. The song's music video is reminiscent of charity recordings in the 1980s, like "(Feed The World) Do they Know It's Christmas Time" and "We Are The World." The Tribe Band's new rendition of "This Christmas" features arrangements from singer-songwriter, vocal coach, and producer Ken Stacey (Elton John, Michael Jackson, Ambrosia). Diving into the song's jolly visual, each artist takes their turn stepping up the microphone, giving it their all with immense soul and passion. Shoutout to the incomparable vocal stylings of Michael McDonald, locking in our undivided attention and leading us to the uplifting hook effortlessly. The song's harmonies, instrumentation, and infectious rhythm are everything we look for in a Christmas song, and this rendition of a classic hit is no exception. The music video brings together celebrated musicians to pay tribute to Hathaway's classic hit and donate all proceeds from the song to the Donny Hathaway Legacy Project. Founded by his youngest daughter, Donnita Hathaway, this nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing mental health resources for those in need. Do yourself (and others) a favor and keep "This Christmas" on repeat this holiday season. Find The Tribe Band's new rendition of this holiday anthem on YouTube and all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, The Tribe Band. Congratulations on releasing your new rendition of Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas." What inspired your group to choose this particular song to cover? The idea of choosing this specific song, Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas,” as this year’s recording project came from our executive producer and founder of The Tribe, Kevin Wachs. Kevin is a visionary. He is also someone with a big heart who enjoys making a difference in the world, and that’s often connected to something musical. He and his wife, Mare, founded the Get Together Foundation in 2001, a 501(c)(3) committed to helping the community be a better place, and both of them stand for this daily through various programs, outreach, etc. A few months back, Kevin decided it was time for The Tribe to release another single and came up with the idea of remaking “This Christmas” – the perfect song for the holiday season. He began to search for a charity organization that might be connected to Donny. He discovered the Donny Hathaway Legacy Project, founded by Donny's daughter Donnita, which aids people suffering from mental illness. This seemed to be the logical organization to support the holidays. The Get Together Foundation typically raises money to help children and families in need, but that includes crisis relief. So, the idea of helping people with mental illness during the holiday season felt right, and he decided to have our version of the song support the DHLP. Kevin contacted Donnita about our idea, and she loved it. Kevin asked singer, producer, and vocal coach Ken Stacey (Ambrosia, Elton John, Michael Jackson) -- who is a lover of Donny’s music -- to create an arrangement of the song for The Tribe to record and one in which we could proudly invite some celebrity singers to participate. Ken has been featured with The Tribe for several years and has sung Donny’s version with us in past shows. He gladly accepted! Everything seemed to come together at the same time. How did your group find featured musicians and vocalists for "This Christmas"? Have you worked with all of these artists before? Kevin Wachs is also the long-time publisher of Rock Cellar Magazine. We have ongoing relationships with many recording artists and their publicity teams, so it seemed logical to reach out to some local celebrity artists who know us and are also familiar with the Get Together Foundation. (In 2020, we put on a 10-hour all-star, live-streamed telethon for the L.A. City Coronavirus Relief Fund. We got a lot of celebrity support for this, which raised a lot of money and caught some attention.) Kevin had recently been at a benefit event in Santa Barbara, where he had a chance to speak to Michael McDonald about our project in person, and he was totally on board. In addition, Ken Stacey happens to be Kenny Loggins’ vocal coach. When he mentioned the project to Kenny, he loved the idea of participating, so that one was pretty easy! Ken went to Santa Barbara to record Kenny and Michael at their favorite SB studio. Ken also invited his friend Richard Marx to join the project, and he, too, offered his voice. I reached several other artists who appeared, including Melissa Manchester, Freda Payne, Florence LaRue, and Lamont Dozier, Jr., who had been part of our Tribe until he relocated to Las Vegas a few years back. We were very fortunate that he was in town during the time we were recording and was able to participate. Donnita Hathaway suggested singer Frank McComb and mentioned how much he sounds like her father. She was right! They were all amazing, as were all the Tribe singers who participated in the project. What was your experience working alongside celebrated musicians, artists, and producers when recreating "This Christmas"? What was that massive collaboration like? Due to the nature of the project and having so many different voices, we scheduled the recording sessions over a few weeks at everyone’s convenience. As mentioned, Kenny and Michael recorded in Santa Barbara, where they live. Everyone else came to Rock Cellar Studios. By the way, The Tribe is accustomed to having celebrity talent participate in our projects. We have released other music videos, including “Get Together” with Jesse Colin Young (who originally made the song famous with the Youngbloods); our version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” which, like this project, featured different singers singing different lines of the song and included a founding member of The Supremes, the late great Mary Wilson, Micky Dolenz, Rosemary Butler, Carnie Wilson, Debbi Peterson (The Bangles), Freebo, The Honeys, and more. Also, over the last eight years, we’ve performed more than a dozen live all-star charity concert events for the Get Together Foundation and have been joined on stage by David Crosby, Al Jardine, Micky Dolenz, Jesse Colin Young, Mary Wilson, Rob Morrow, Billy Vera, Carnie Wilson, Peter Asher, Derek Smalls (aka Harry Shearer), Florence LaRue (The 5th Dimension), Marcella Detroit (Eric Clapton), Steve Ferrone (drummer from Tom Petty band), Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel (Stevie Nicks band), (members of the Strawberry Alarm Clock), and Ambrosia. And I’ll also add that the level of talented singers and instrumentalists within The Tribe collective is astounding. How did you want listeners and viewers to feel after watching the soulful and spirited music video for "This Christmas?” I think this one is pretty obvious. We want people to feel moved enough to make a donation to a good cause. The Donny Hathaway Legacy Project does good work. For those who don’t know, Donny suffered from severe mental illness that led to his death at the young age of 33. We set up a direct donation link and QR code within the video and mentioned it in all the promotional text connected to the song and the video so that people who can make a donation or any amount know their contribution will make a difference for someone during this holiday season. What's next for you? We did our annual holiday benefit concert for the Get Together Foundation at Bogies in Westlake Village. We performed a mix of holiday tunes and songs about peace, love & understanding. Now we’re planning our schedule for 2023. The best way to know what we have going on is to join our mailing list, follow our social media, and check our website. Last year we launched a show called One-Hit Wonders which we performed with a rotating cast all summer, and we anticipate being able to do more of the same at the local summer concert series next summer. I’m sure there will be some other fun events in between, too. Facebook Artist Website
- Dave Tony Exposes A Blazing Side Of Truth
A blazing example of fiery soul and profound tales, Harlem, New York, has brought us the brilliant essence of singer-songwriter Dave Tony. Ever since a young age, he has taken his voice through triumphant scales that move those around him. With a deluxe sound rooted in R&B and soul, he conveys a unique flair as he showcases his skills in the studio and through his live performances. Dave Tony's remarkable sonic stories often shed light on love, life, and everything in between. With his latest body of work titled "The Truth," he takes listeners through an expose of five tracks that portray a comprehensive guide into the life of Dave Tony and his oppressive religious upbringing. There's much to dissect in the brilliance that lies within this project. We get to peer into an introspective lens that seizes dark connotations, further pulling you towards the undertow of deep topics. Commencing this EP with the exploratory single "Illusion," this intro has us exposed to lyrical motifs drenched in confusion themes as Dave Tony's initial auditory declaration has us enfolded in the essence of "The Truth." Making for the perfect theatrical trailer for what we're about to digest, we admire his courage in exhibiting his genuine self. "Monotony" is the second record we get to take in on this EP, and we feel the liberation Dave Tony voices as he gets more in touch with his beliefs. A common element sprinkled throughout these records lies within extraordinary harmonies rich in expression. Complementing one another most melodically, Dave Tony caresses your ears in a captivating factor. Bringing many textures during his unmatched vocal performance, each note and word uttered moves you. Submerged in Dave Tony's unique sound and dazzling vocal layers, he makes the flow of this project an effortless sonic journey to embark on. We appreciate how the instrumentations through each song resonate in a different tone that further entices you to the exclusivity of "The Truth." Verity" plays upon deeply resonated basslines and triumphant percussion patterns that you can feel in your chest. What better way to accompany lyrical motifs that go directly toward your cognizance? This song's main message rings with sincerity in such an insightful approach. "They say the truth will set you free, but they don't know what it's like to be me," are the powerful words that have us fixated on Dave Tony pleading to break free from the shackles of insanity set in place by the world around him. With all compositions fueled by uniqueness as the themes reside in a realm of Dave Tony's reflective mind, the lead single from "The Truth" blends futuristic elements with the lively foundation chalked throughout the five songs. "Turmoil" greets us with a slow tempo that sanctions reflection deeply. Dave Tony's velvety timbres release powerfully as he lets us feel the pain he can't seem to extinguish. A visionary with the way he conveys the messages reiterated, we're enraptured to an emotion-fueled destination that exudes triumphant tenors as we feast on the melancholy he fuses with deliverance. Truly, the perfect way to bring us to the final song we embark on. Enhancing this song's sentiment with a personal voicemail from Lady Day, we admire the earnest expressions to the fullest extent. "Try Me (Freedom)" comes at the perfect time, as what we've dissected with Dave Tony at the helm has been heavy-hitting and eye-opening. His artistry has a knack for bringing us through the peaks and valleys of his messaging. Each mesmerizing word expresses how he feels free from what has been tying him down with lyrical motifs like, "try me; I've been so ready to win." The carefully curated words mustered from an emotional journey of his own leave us with hope and closure. It's comforting to know that Dave Tony has been able to take these experiences and transmute them into poignant motifs that listeners can relate to while getting to know him on a deeper level. "The Truth" has us living through the experiences of Dave Tony, and we're grateful he could accompany us with this perspective lens into his life. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Dave Tony! Congratulations on the release of your profound EP, "The Truth." We're thrilled to go more in-depth with you! This work is a fantastic representation of your emotions during your struggles. We felt like we could feel your intentions through each melody. Please share some insight on what inspired you to make an EP about this moment of your life. It's an absolute honor to have this chat, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. I believe challenges can provide moments where we can find some inner strength, which could even be used as a spark that drives us forward - leading others too. That was exactly what happened when it came time for me to write "The Truth," inspired by my oppressive religious upbringing as a Jehovah's Witness. This was an experience that was far from easy! It wasn't always comfortable opening up about such personal aspects of life, but if someone else struggling with similar issues finds comfort in knowing they are not alone, why wouldn't I share? Through using my story as a beacon, those finding their path will hopefully feel empowered enough to speak their truth without fear or uncertainty holding them back. "The Truth" is me putting into words and melody all of the struggles I faced while trying to find my authentic self within such a restrictive system. With your thoughtful view on music embodying healing power, could you please take us into what your emotions were like through different states of putting this masterpiece together? Do you believe you found closure once the "The Truth" reached the public? I will stand on this hill till I die! Music is therapeutic; this is exactly what my album "The Truth" is for me. My emotions while writing this music were very varied. It was difficult to get into the emotion of such a dark time because I was in a pleasing mental space. However, writing this music forced me to go back and deal with the trauma I thought was healed, but it was just buried. So there were tears and moments of pure joy about how far I'd come. I found closure before the project was even started, but this new closure I've experienced after its release is more about my no longer being afraid, to tell the truth regardless of its consequences. Is there an intention behind how each song is laid out on "The Truth?" Could you please share why you chose this order for each track? There is an intention behind the order of the tracks. I consider myself to be a conceptual storytelling artist, so the tracks have been carefully curated to tell a story—from the confusion of "Illusion" right through to freedom in "Try Me" (Freedom). In between are all those emotions experienced while going from oppression and being stuck in an illusion - then finally achieving liberation! There's a saying; "the truth will set you free – but first, it will piss you off." Do you find that to be true about much we encounter in our lifetime? I find that to be true a lot of the time. It's frustrating when you're presented with information that contradicts what you've always believed to be true, but it's also liberating once you've freed yourself from those false beliefs. George Orwell's great quote summarizes this well: "In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act." So don't be afraid to question everything you've been taught and search for the truth, even if it makes you angry. The truth is worth knowing, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. The truth can sometimes be harsh, but it's always preferable to living in ignorance. And once you've finally seen the light, it's natural to feel angry or frustrated at all the years you spent blindly following someone else's version of the truth. But don't worry – eventually, that anger will turn into empowerment, and you'll become free in your own right. What is your mission statement as an artist? How do you feel it gets showcased through your art? I don't have a mission statement as an artist, per se. I just hope to create beautiful, meaningful, and timeless art. Also, I hope that through my music, people will be able to connect with their own emotions and others more deeply. I call my supporters "Truthtellers," so I'll say always tell your truth no matter how difficult because no one can tell your truth better than you! Instagram Facebook
- Adonis Faison’s Versatility Is Unraveled in His Enchanting New Track, “Medusa”
Originally from Calvert County, Maryland rapper, singer-songwriter, and producer Adonis Faison recently moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams. Adonis Faison brings a vast amount of versatility to the artistry he hones through catchy melodies guaranteed to get stuck in your head, along with his blend of upbeat/metaphorical rap style. As we take our attention to the latest body of work from Adonis Faison, we’re submerged in the luscious resonances his vocals provide. “The Red Eye” is a seven-track project home to the album's lead single, “Medusa.” Slowing the tempo down with rich guitar riffs and vibrant percussion patterns, each melody cast throughout this song has you under its spell. The sonic integrity of the instrumentation is a mold to caress the robust timbres conveyed by Adonis Faison. With opulent lyrical motifs comprehensive in his portrayal of a love story, you can’t help but hang onto each word as it’s carefully delivered with intention. As we’re taken into the chorus, we hear his play on words comparing the apple of his eye to Medusa, who in Greek mythology would turn anyone who gazed into her eyes to stone. Now, Adonis Faison takes that meaning and cleverly flips it into an endearing term that instead means he’s awestruck by this woman’s beauty. As he sheds croons that iterate, “girl, you’re like Medusa; I get lost inside your eyes,” Adonis Faison powerfully ignites imagery inside your mind to accompany his keenness and the detail pouring from his velvety performance. With each harmony being smoother than the last, “Medusa” is a record that holds an enticing flair, further luring you into Adonis Faison’s musical library. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Adonis Faison! Congratulations on the release of your latest single and body of work! You have a knack for casting out these larger-than-life sonic expressions of your thoughts. With a song like "Medusa," what inspired the creativity behind it? The inspiration behind "Medusa" came from and conversation among friends on Greek Mythology, and Medusa came up. I explained how she just wanted to be loved for who she was regardless of the so-called snakes for hair, and the song just wrote itself afterward. With some of your main musical influences being Kazi, Tobi Lou, Blxst, and Bryson Tiller, how do you feel inspired by their art and bring it into your own? My influences all have their unique sound n style, which I feel sets them apart from making music that fits a trend, so to come up with my own unique sound n style, I just studied their music and put their style into my own. What can you tell your audience about the concepts heard in "The Red Eye?" How does this project stand out from your other music? The concepts for 'The Red Eye' are all relatable to the listener in some way, so they have something to hit home, and it was based on a little of my personal life as well. The project stands out from my other music by noticing my style's growth and the different wordplay n metaphorical lyrics. What non-musical aspirations do you have? Do you find any of these fit into who you are as an artist? Non-musical aspirations I do videography on the side, as well as video production, and I run my record label called AllDaWayy100 Studio&Productions, so im getting into it. The business side of things. I believe it fits into who I am as an artist. I get to pave my path and help other artists who want to pave their path too. What's next for you? You can expect 2023 my name to be brought up more often, with more music, a bigger fan base, and performances. Connect with Adonis Faison Twitter Instagram

Inspired by rock, folk, and country music, South East London’s Christian Larsmon shares his music with the world. As a singer-songwriter, his major influences in that realm, along with composition, are Paolo Nutini, Kings of Leon, and Cat Stevens. Being part of various musical projects over the past 20 years, his career highlights include support slots for Eric Clapton, Arthur Brown, and The Pretty Things. 2022 has had Christian Larsmon showcasing tracks from his forthcoming EP during live performances, solo and with a band all over the country, including London venues like The Half Moon, The Finsbury, and The Regent. With his most recent single, “The Other Side,” the freshest offering that listeners worldwide get to take in, we’re fixated on the overpour of heartfelt expressions. There’s a raw magnetism that Christian Larsmon conveys through his performances as he becomes one with the storytelling aspect of his melodies. Brilliant emotion spills from his moving croons, and each word shed entrenches itself into your cognizance. Harmonious bliss resonates through the detailed lyricism, which has us gravitating toward his captivating dynamism as both a singer and songwriter. With lyrical motifs drenched in repetition, the words “embrace your surrender” keep coming back to us as they immerse us in the essence of “The Other Side.” Christian Larsmon centers his spellbinding energy in the melodious warbles of the free-flowing lyrics crafted. You can hear his sonic inspirations spill into the artistry, all while he paves a path custom to what he brings to the table. Through lush acoustic guitar riffs and an anticipation that ramps up with each given moment of “The Other Side,” a song of this caliber is bound to have you deep within your self-reflection in seconds. Currently in the studio recording his imminent EP “Dark Before The Dawn,” we encourage you to listen to “The Other Side” to prepare yourself for what’s to come. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Christian Larsmon, and congratulations on releasing your latest single, “The Other Side.” Each word you passionately sing paints a picture that we can’t shake. Could you please share the meaning behind this record? Thank you! I’m glad you like the song's lyrics; every word you sing is meaningful to me. The narrative for The Other Side is me talking to someone going through a rough mental patch and assuring them that it will be Ok on The Other Side. I went through some mental health issues five years ago and sought help, which was the best thing I ever did. I wanted to make the song as relatable as possible to anyone going through a difficult time to encourage them to open up and seek help if they are struggling. I feel this is particularly hard for men, which is why male suicide has high rates in the UK. Now, if listeners check online, they can find a smooth filmic component to accompany this sonic expression. What can you tell us about the thought process of creating that music video? It’s a fairly simple concept that myself and Marcus Rexford came up with. The music video was filmed in two locations. My flat is in South East London and Birling Gap; Eastbourne. I wanted to paint a dark, cold and lonely scene for the flat scene. You can see me as a working man dealing with addiction and alcoholism. The scenes at Birling Gap provide a significant contrast. With the white cliffs, the ocean, and the sun shining, I wanted to paint a picture of freedom and hope. The working man you see struggling has now stepped into who he was always meant to become. When it comes to the live performances that you’ve been teasing your forthcoming tracks at, how has the reception of these records been? What’s your favorite part about the performance experience? It’s been very well received - especially when I go for the big high notes! Mostly, I’ve played fully acoustic and twice with a bassist playing alongside me to thicken the sound. I will be playing a show with a full live band at The Half Moon in Putney on 9th January, which I'm excited about as I get to translate my vision for the song in the studio of the song into real life. A lyric stood out to us the most: "embrace your surrender.” What do these words mean to you, and what would you like your audience to take away from them? I want the audience to reflect that sometimes, you have to give up trying to solve your problems on your own and ask for help. If you let go of the need to control everything, it could be the best thing you ever do for yourself. What can we expect to see and hear next from you? My next single! ‘Do I Let You In?’ It will be out at the end of February 2023. I plan to release another music video for that as well. I may also release some acoustic covers and would love to know if your audience has any that they’d like me to do :) if they have a request, follow me on Instagram @christianlarsmonmusic and send me a DM. What made you get into the music business, and when did you decide to go for it? You know, I started very young Dame near all my family members on both sides of my family: musicians, singers and so on. In contrast, in the 5th grade, one of my uncles started a Gospel Quartet Group. He asked him to sing lead, and then a year later, I picked up the Guitar, and that truly was history, and I was like this is what I want to do forever. What is one thing you’d like your fans to know about you? Well, I'm just a laid-back, shy person. I've always been shy, but for some reason, once I get on stage, the shyness leave. Also, I try to be an honest person no matter what the deal is. So you’ve gained some pretty diverse (and flattering) comparisons to well-known and respected artists. We wanted to ask, what is your vision for your music? What kind of message or feeling do you want fans to take away from your music? The diversity in my music comes from not only listening to and growing up with all types of music. I want people to understand that you can't put me in a box as a musician. Genres of music don't matter to me; it's not what it sounds like. It's how it makes you feel. What can fans expect to see from Jahfeeil in the new year? Are there any particular new songs or projects you want fans to watch? Yes, yes, yes, most definitely right now. As we speak, I'm recording a new single with my band, free soul society; the song is titled just a friend; it's going to be a smash can't wait for you guys to hear it. Instagram Facebook
- The “DIGITAL” World Has No Hold On Keith Kugo
Multidisciplinary artist Keith Kugo specializes in music production, architecture, and painting. Always aiming to push the envelope within the artistry field, he is constantly progressing in his sound and refusing to be bound to one box, and his latest single, "Digital," is a prime example. Keith Kugo has always embraced and deeply related to his cultural roots. Originally from Zimbabwe, he continuously draws from and infuses the vivid experiences of his childhood and the transition to living in New Zealand and Australia into his creative process. With his debut EP still fairly fresh to the scene, Keith Kugo has capitalized on this moment to bring forth another taste of his witty concepts. Offering listeners the highly-anticipated follow-up project titled 'CURIOSITY I,' we‘re quickly drawn toward the body of work. The lead single, “DIGITAL,” allows Keith Kugo to tap into introspection. Gritty synths and revolutionary pads open up this record with an outwardly floodlit vision into Keith Kugo’s mind. Resting on top of the shadowy tinges released in the instrumentation, you’re immediately pulled into an eclectic coil of Keith Kugo’s tenacity in the production realm. Through the speakers, twinkles of ethos immerse you in a well-versed example of how far he travels in his figurative and literal artistry. Painting rich images that have your attention peaked, the context of “DIGITAL” has Keith Kugo expressing the challenges of navigating relationships within the social media setting. Two worlds collide in the free-flowing energy from his vocalization and the unapologetic grooves that the beat emits. Performing luscious cascades that hold a persevering texture, what awes us the most is Keith Kugo’s ability to perform such lucid vocals overtop a hard-hitting instrumental as such. That being said, it’s not just Keith Kugo’s sound that captivates us. His enthralling influence also resides in the words he conveys through brilliantly scripted lyrical motifs. With six tracks spanning over 'CURIOSITY I,' there’s much to take in through the beauty and brains Keith Kugo laces his music with. Continuing to pave his lane with an amazingly exclusive style – he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Keith Kugo, and congratulations on releasing your latest EP. We loved listening to “DIGITAL” and tasting your unique approach to the music you create. With the theme being based on relationships – is the context of the lyrics based on a true story? Thank you for listening! I think digital is partly a true story and partly a summary of my conversations with my close friends. I found that when I'd talk to my friends about what I was going through, they had eerily similar events that they were also experiencing. It was fun to write from both my and potential listeners' perspectives. What inspired you to make “DIGITAL” the leading single from this project? What picture does it paint about the rest of the songs heard on 'CURIOSITY I?' Digital was chosen as the lead single on this project as it encapsulated what I wanted the overall EP to be. It was a break from my traditional writing and production techniques, and I felt it succinctly described where I was mentally and where I wanted to go with the rest of the project. With 'CURIOSITY I' is the first volume from the multi-installment series. What can we expect from the other volumes to come out? I want the curiosity series to be something that pushes and challenges me. So all of the installments will be delving into topics and worlds that I wouldn't venture down. I want the sound to be cohesive but distinct between each installment. They'll be different planets but within the same solar system. Tackling multiple parts of the artistry experience, what happens to be your favorite part of the creative and release process? I've been falling in love with the lyric writing process lately. I've been producing since I was around 11, but I've only recently started writing lyrics to my ideas. It's a huge world, and I have so much to say. I thoroughly enjoy seeing the different parts of my life I pull from and put into songwriting. What's next for you? I'm excited for 2023. A few collaborative projects have been in the works for a long time and are finally seeing the light of day early next year! I'm already deep into creating the other curiosity installations, so I'm excited for the new year. Instagram Twitter
- Sherika Sherard Takes Our Breath Away In A New Album Soundtrack, “PHEA”
Soothing our souls is singer-songwriter and recording artist Sherika Sherard alongside the production and composition stylings of Maxime Obadia and Victor Hugo Fumagalli in their original motion picture soundtrack for the film PHEA. PHEA is the original motion picture soundtrack to the film of the same name, starring Sherika Sherard as Phea and directed by Rocky Palladino. The film is currently available to buy/rent on Amazon, Apple TV, and Google Play. Sherika Sherard wrote and performed all of the songs alongside producer Maxime Obadia and composer Victor Hugo Fumagalli. The film's soundtrack opens with the introductory track, "Lonely In A Crowded Room," with Sherika Sherard's smooth-sailing vocals and lush instrumentation. While singing about losing her sense of self-worth by always striving for more, she feeds us all the emotion and vulnerability we could ask for. It's a powerful song that opens the album on an introspective note. Track number two, "Can You Play Me Something," hums through the speakers with 24 seconds of Sherika Sherard plucking her acoustic guitar, preparing us for the emotional next track to follow. On the third song, "Faith On The Line," zen synth arrangements and Sherika Sherard's velvety vocals melt through the speakers while singing yet another reflective lyrical message. This time, Sherika Sherard dives into the concept of risking everything you want by finally pushing through to see if it works out. It's a chilling piece that encourages us to step out of our comfort zone from time to time. Slowing things down is the album's fourth track, "When I Give You My Love." She greets us with tender piano melodies and the softest of vocals. This deeply emotional song asks some necessary questions about a relationship and wondering where someone else's head is at. Sherika Sherard's performance in this song gives us goosebumps in the greatest possible way. On track five, "In Rooms With People Like You," we hear another short interlude type-piece taken from the film. Sherika Sherard confesses her heart's emotion regarding a tumultuous relationship and being surrounded by others who remind you of that special someone. She continues this theme in the sixth track, "Back From The Edge," which pours through our speakers on a deeply emotional and vulnerable note. While asking to be saved from her demons and inner turmoil, Sherika Sherard eventually realizes how this pain will pave the way for something better. It's an incredibly powerful yet soothing song that reminds us that our journeys are far from over. Reaching the seventh track, "City Girl," Sherika Sherard tackles yet another needed concept. While her lush electric guitar melodies float through the speakers, she jumps into her relatable lyrical content about the effect hustle culture can have on a relationship. That constant "grind" coming in the way of two lovers is a saddening yet relatable theme that brings a tear to the eye. On track number eight, "Lullaby (Dream Sequence)," the song's intro feels like a soundtrack of a hazy dream. Sherika Sherard's breathy vocals rain down from above while the melancholy piano keys linger through the speakers, sonically serenading us with tender emotion. The keys carry us to the outro on a soft yet refreshing note. Moving on to the ninth track, "Secret," we're met with soothing electric guitar melodies drenched in reverb alongside Sherika Sherard's gentle vocals. While expressing her passion for someone and their story, she confesses some inner thoughts about this significant other while urging them to express how they feel. It's a chilling piece that focuses on the many impacts of love. On track ten, "Thank You Phea," this interlude-type 10-second piece hears a woman angrily thanking Phea while slamming the door on her exit, leading us to track number eleven. "Justine" slowly fades in from the background while showering us with heavenly vocal melodies and background pads. As the soothing yet distant electric guitar melodies begin pouring down from above, a gentle piano arrangement makes its way in to level out the emotional impact. It's a breathtaking and comforting instrumental that prepares us for the album's final song. Landing on track twelve, "Best Of Me," we're greeted with gentle acoustic guitar picking alongside Sherika Sherard's delicate and radiant vocals. She dives into another personal yet relatable concept that sees her confessing her habits of neglecting those who always support her. It's a thank-you song that sees Sherika Sherard expressing her woes while paying homage to everyone who has helped her through the toughest times. After hearing the entire PHEA album, we're more than excited to see Sherika Sherard on the big screen to bring the entire experience to life. Find the new soundtrack album, PHEA, on all digital streaming platforms, and watch the film on Amazon, Apple TV, and Google Play. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Sherika Sherard. Congratulations on the new film and releasing the powerful accompanying soundtrack, PHEA. Could you give us a rundown of what this film is about? Phea is about a musician who tries to save her girlfriend, Justine, from a gang during one turbulent day. The film is a modern take on the Orpheus myth, whereby Phea uses her music to get her out of moments of danger and move her one step closer to Justine. What was your experience collaborating with producer Maxime Obadia and composer Victor Hugo Fumagalli for the PHEA soundtrack? How did they help bring the soundtrack to life? I worked mainly in the studio with producer Maxime. Composer Victor would work remotely and send us pieces of music that I would then react to with vocal harmony, as on the tracks Lullaby and Justine. It was quite fluid, some of our work was for the film score, and some was for the album. Each work supported the other. What was your personal songwriting process like when creating each piece for PHEA? Did you take inspiration from your character or real-life experiences? I had just finished acting in Phea, so the character was still fresh in my mind. The director, Rocky, was present at many recording sessions because he wanted my vocal delivery to sound and feel like my character. So it was interesting to perform the tracks from that point of view. A song like City Girl, which I first wrote as a more upbeat track, grew a darker edge from the experience of working on the film. The studio sessions were an extension of the film, as I’d already performed some of the key tracks in the film itself, so it would have felt wrong if I had suddenly changed the mood on the album and made it more upbeat. Which song from the PHEA soundtrack did you enjoy creating the most? Which song sticks out to you as your personal favorite? Most of the songs were adaptations of songs I’d already written and performed live. But Secret was a song that developed from the recording sessions with Maxime, so it was a special moment when that came together. What do you hope viewers and listeners experience when watching the film PHEA? What impact did you want the film and soundtrack to have on your audience? I hope they go on an emotional journey with Phea. It’s about fighting self-doubt and finding the courage to move forward with your life and career. Most people’s lives are affected by mental health in some way, and I want music and film to let people know they are not alone. There’s a catharsis in it. Instagram Facebook
