We are in love with your new addictive and catchy release, "TRUCKS." The structure of this record is super unique and authentic. Please explain to us a bit about what makes this record unique to your previous releases. The tunes on the last album were under a conceptual umbrella, they worked together to paint a visual and tell a story. I’m being more noncommital with these new tunes, just really having fun making music. When creating "TRUCKS," which part of the record sparked first and initially brought the song concept to life? It started as just a little jammy idea that I didn’t really plan to develop. I started on a random scratch vocal, and it was, “get in my truck, let’s go for a ride. I’ll take you for a ride”. With the vocal, it picked up a vibe, and I just rolled with it. What do you hope the listener realizes or considers after experiencing "TRUCKS?" I think for the listener, this song should just be kind of a road song. A driving song, heading out on an adventure kinda song. I just wanted to drop something for the summer soundtracks. Motorbike James, what does "TRUCKS" mean to you? How can listeners understand you through this single? It’s really just an invitation to join in the good times. Anyone who has actually got in my truck and gone for a ride can attest that it’s typically a fun adventure of some kind. I’m an enthusiast when it comes to all things motorized… between my truck, car, and motorbikes; I’m always rolling around in some sort of freedom machine. The tune is just a call to get on board with the music, the vibe, and the ride. Instagram Facebook

Kathryn, welcome to BuzzMusic! Jumping right in, what is the "a-ha!" moment mentioned in the song? I think many people have experienced a similar moment in their lives that I share in “I Fell for You,” where there’s a super brief yet super impactful moment of intersection with someone else that ignites a spark within you. That’s what I experienced a few years ago. We often encounter other people in our daily lives who provide us with exactly what we need at that exact moment, and they don’t even know it. They can say something or do something that may be ordinary to them but extraordinary to you. All that is to say, I had an aha moment a few years ago hearing someone talk about their own journey. There was an alignment for me in their words and their energy, and I felt an elevated, refreshed level of clarification for what I was meant to do next. I welcomed that feeling, as it awakened some aspects of me that had been dormant, including the flow of my own personal songwriting. In time, I took that moment and allowed fantasy and unrequited feelings to bloom into a song that became “I Fell for You.” What does this song mean to you? Can you tell us about the man behind the music? I love this song, and I’m grateful for the experience and feelings that brought it forth, but no, I never really share the specific person who inspires any of my songs. Well, unless it’s super obvious, like the song I released in 2017 called “I Held His Hand” was clearly about my dad. It’s funny, actually, as I’ve had a few people over the years think a song I wrote was about them, and it wasn’t. I guess that’s the premise of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain.” Every song I write has a personal point of inspiration, whether it’s a circumstance, feeling, or person that inspires it. I am a really private person these days. I wrestled in years past with how much I needed to share or not as an artist. Now there’s no internal conflict. I am able to protect what’s sacred while sharing my art publicly. But I will say this. The main character of this song hasn’t let me down by being someone different than I originally sensed he was. Sometimes this happens. We encounter someone who’s projecting a persona one way, but in time we experience them to be quite different. That didn’t happen, and I suppose that’s a whole next-level fascination for me—which is a whole other song. What was your songwriting process like for "I Fell For You”? Was this a challenging process, or did your words flow with ease? I wrote this song during the COVID lockdown. My songwriting process is often like having a fun crush on someone where it’s on my mind nonstop until it’s completed. Lyrically, I love wordplay. I often include lyrics in my songs that may seem random but are super deliberate and often something to decode. For example, in the second verse, I reference what would be a poker scene with playing cards and chips. This entire concept was shared so I could reference “two aces of a spade,” which directly links to a book I bought in Sedona, AZ, called Cards of Illumination, which designates birthdays with a specific playing card. My birthday is on May 5, which aligns with the ace of spades card. When I finished writing “I Fell for You,” I did what I always do by recording it as a simple acoustic guitar and vocals track and then sent it over to Daniel Fritz for the arrangement. I had a specific vibe I was seeking, and Daniel worked his magic to create the musical layers. When the arrangement was done, I recorded my lead vocals. Then I hired Megan Nguyen for backing vocals, and her voice brings a wonderful layer to the song I love. What was your goal with the "I Fell For You” music video? What visual experience did you want to give viewers? My original vision for the video was to have a day-in-the-life concept similar to how it looks when I’m writing songs. Since my songwriting sessions are usually super early in the morning, with me wearing a cozy robe, drinking coffee, and playing my guitar, I wanted that at-home intimate feel. Instead of my robe, I decided to wear some of my normal everyday clothes that symbolize my feeling of being grounded and safe at home, hence all the red. I worked with Director Mike Brueggemeyer again on this video. He took my at-home concept and infused his own creative vision into the scenes you see in the video. Mike liked the longing aspect of the song’s message, so he created the laying on the bed daydreaming scene that worked really well. What's next for you? My newest single was just released, actually. It’s called “Enough is Enough” and was inspired by the Uvalde school shooting. I wrote it just days following the shooting, as my heart was hurting for those children and educators and their families. The extreme terror and violence those children and teachers experienced in the final hours of their lives sat with me. I felt angry and confused as to how so many people are absolutely divided by the importance of enacting sensible gun laws that are relevant to today’s weapons. I felt pissed that the topic always shifts away from our children to political positioning. I am around children all the time through my Kathryn the Grape work and in schools regularly. I am tired of the narrative always getting diverted to politically charged topics and pointing blame. This song circles us back to the heart of our humanity. It had been done for a while, but I needed to get my head and heart around it before it was released. I am ready now to share it and do my part. KathrynClowardMusic.com

In fact, she enlightens us on what a beautiful world we could live in if we shared our love outward and put our selfish ways aside. Gibb's witty and candid lyrics will definitely make you crack a smile, but the song's music video sees a more introspective side. From dim-lit piano playing to solo shots strapped in shades in front of the microphone, Samantha Gibb made this music video with a warm personal approach. "So what, maybe I won't live up to my full potential; guess what, yeah, you're really not that fuckin' special," she bluntly sings while playfully reminding us that we're on all our own unique paths. The song's music video is an inclusive visual experience that unites individuals from different walks of life. It reminds them to chill out, spread some "Good Lovin'," and follow their passions. Don't forget to give some "Good Lovin'" to Samantha Gibb and her expressive new single and music video. Find the song on all digital streaming platforms and the music video on YouTube. Welcome to Buzz Music, Samantha Gibb. We are excited to have you with us today. Firstly, what a powerful and independent single. What inspired this power and attitude that demands "Good Lovin'?" I think it's really about expectations and preconceived notions of how my or anyone's music, career, and life should be. It's your life, and you should do what makes you happy no matter what anyone else thinks. "You live your life, and I'll live mine," as the song says. Let's just all try to figure out how to be truly happy without judgment or criticism. What do you hope the listener realizes or considers after experiencing "Good Lovin'?" Empowerment. A feeling of hope that things can get better, especially if you can block out the noise around you and start living the way you want to live. Everyone deserves to thrive. You seem confident in one love while entertaining another. The lyrics call out and criticize one love while you have good lovin' on your mind while accusing the “not so special” of being critical. Are the lyrics deeper and a projection of insecurities? When someone says, " Oh, but you have so much potential," when talking about your life, it comes out passive-aggressive and semi-condescending. It's like telling you what you're currently doing is something only someone with little to no potential would do. When I sing it in the song, I always looked at it as if I am saying it about myself as well. I don't need to be special, just happy. How can listeners get to know you more personally with "Good Lovin'?" How does this song represent you? If you're living life to the expectations of others, then one's true happiness and a healthy state of mind are a lot harder to achieve. Only when I stopped caring about what other people think of me or how I live my life did I start feeling my own good lovin and happiness. What's next for you? Definitely continue writing and co-writing. I also have a follow-up song to "Good Lovin'" coming out later this year called "Sorry, Not Sorry." Instagram Twitter
- Danjul Cuts Through The “Drama”
Danjul has us dancing to the season's next anthem, a flawlessly formulated new song, "Drama." Danjul is a breakout artist born in Inglewood and raised in Covina. He discovered his passion for music when he teamed up with producer Matthew Nelson to release his project, and they instantly connected. Danjul sings and writes more complex but relatable music, giving us a cinematic touch never to forget. His debut release has done so well and has amassed many followers who support him, the journey, and the movement. Danjul says, "Sucess is doing what you love and living the best life, being the greatest version of yourself possible, being yourself and never changing." "Drama" creates a genre called story pop which is like a visual fairytale where Danjul talks about his emotions and how he's been hurt. He mixes the instrumental elements with vocals so perfectly that we create the perfect catchy record. Let's jump in with Danjul as the instrumental freely flows with pop-dream elements as he introduces us to his very catchy vocals as he sings "Drama." He layers his vocals perfectly as he sings about his feelings toward someone he loves. Danjul feels that times get hard, but he's willing to fight for what he truly loves. And as we continue, Danjul switches up his flows by adding extra sauce to include the variety we so desperately crave; he tells us how he knows boundaries and won't allow being hurt by anyone who plays with his emotions. As we hear the last vocal from Danjul, we know it's not the end but just the beginning of a new and fresh era. We have dance and feelings mixed together as Danjul takes us on his journey in his latest "Drama" filled single, available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to Buzzmusic, Danjul. We admire the refreshing and playful attitude you've brought with your recent single, "Drama." What inspired this breezy song about someone's unpredictable ways? Thanks for having me! Drama was inspired by multiple things I’ve experienced in my life. My life has been pretty “Dark,” so I just channeled that energy and wrote a song about it. I’ve been around many broken, unhappy relationships, so I kind of took all of that influence with my own experience and decided to create a unique pop record that was punchy yet colorful. Danjul, was it easy being so open and passionate when writing your lyrics for "Drama?" What was your experience writing the song? I’m never afraid to say how I feel, and people that are closest to me know that about me. My songs are truly my personal diary, every time I read a song it comes from a real place. It’s hard for me to write about anything that’s fake or just to fit in. Everything I write Has to be real and something I’ve experienced. So to answer your question, yes, it’s very easy to be open and passionate when I’m writing. What was your experience writing the reliable and honest lyrics for "Drama?" Did you write your songs entirely solo? I write everything solo. I don’t have co-writers; in every single song you hear from me, I write myself lyrically. In most of my songs, I already have an idea of the beat and at least a verse in a chorus already written down. Obviously, there are things that have to be changed and altered once creating the tracking process starts, but I love to already have a story written before it’s sonically told. Does that make sense? Lol How does "Drama" contrast your previous releases? How does this song stand out regarding lyrics, sound, and concepts? I will definitely have to say it has the most mainstream-sounding vibe than most of the other escapes. Plus, due to the fact it was released through a label Bentleyrecords. I wanted to showcase what I’m really about and give people just a taste of what my evolving sound is… What's next for you? I’ll be releasing a follow-up single, most likely in the fall. Still looking for Great management but other than that still grinding really hard! Hopefully, start performing once all these diseases calm down! Drama, I believe, has about 70,000 streams on Spotify! It’s my most successful song to date. And I wanna thank everyone who has been supporting me and to all the radio stations that play the record and all the independent magazines that put me on their cover and give me shine as a new artist. It truly means the world to me. And thank you, BuzzMusic LA, for this interview. Instagram Facebook

Make sure you support and stream the innovative and authentic sounds by Q the Key with his latest release, "Out Of Sight," available on all streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic Q the Key. We admire the refreshing and playful attitude you've brought with your recent single, "Out Of Sight." What inspired this breezy song about positivity? I appreciate all the compliments about my record and for the opportunity to showcase it on your platform! In some ways, I look to be unique but relatable to the average listener. A lot of the song’s inspiration and positivity comes from my enjoyment of listening to funk, hip hop, and house music in my spare time and my wanting to bring a new meaning to the word fun. I’m always looking to make a timeless record that will also touch people over time, so with my music, I seek to create just that. The 80s and 90s era hip hop and pop-funk culture were very instrumental in my upbringing. Could you expand on your songwriting process for "Out Of Sight?" Do you face any difficult moments when writing such inspiring lyrics? The songwriting process for Out Of Sight started after becoming a recurring listener of the instrumentation on a consistent basis. I would just sing to the beat at first while going about my day riding in my car or in my home studio to pass time. The vibe always made me feel good and compelled to write to it. Songwriting usually comes naturally to me either when I hear a beat or just at the moment, freely and readily express myself to the world. Usually, my songwriting process speeds up if I take a conversation I had with someone else during the day and then apply it to a song I’m writing since I’m usually living in relatability. Did you have any artistic influences or projects in mind when creating the single "Out Of Sight”? I grew up with some of my artistic influences being Outkast, Jimmi Hendrix, and Rick James, so the dress style, flow, melody, and culture are definitely what helped cultivate Out Of Sight as a whole. I had been messing with the idea of creating a pop-funk or house album with a fusion of trap once the right production comes along. What's the message behind "Out Of Sight?" The message behind Out Of Sight is based on the saying out of sight, out of mind separating from trouble while letting go being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor while maintaining true self and purpose in the process. Life is precious, and it’s something that every person should have the liberty to come to peace with, whether it’s on a good or bad day. Sometimes you have to let go of some people and materials that hold you back to truly hold on to or obtain your happiness. What's next for you? I’ll be on a press run conducting a few other interviews to continue to promote the music video for my song “Out Of Sight” and will release one new single every month until the end of 2022 on all streaming platforms. When you need a dose of clarity or simply want an outlet for those pent-up emotions, find your solace in Sean Della Croce's new single and music video, "Rebecca Henry." Find the single on all digital streaming platforms and the music video on YouTube. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Sean Della Croce. We're head over heels for the intimate listening experience you've blessed us with in your new single, "Rebecca Henry." What was the driving force of inspiration behind this emotional single? Thanks so much! The driving force for me was an actual person with whom I was acquainted in college. At my liberal arts school, the ultimate catch was the artsiest, most stylish, avid reader philosopher girl. Of course, I was afraid to talk to her. What did you want listeners to pick up on and take away after experiencing your vulnerable single, "Rebecca Henry?” I hope listeners can connect the lyrics to a “Rebecca Henry” in their lives. Whether it’s an actual person or a dream, they are chasing. The song is all about what lies on the other side of a captivating mystery. What inspired the calming photography scene within your music video for "Rebecca Henry?” The character of Rebecca Henry in the song is a painter, so we wanted to portray a woman creating visual art of some kind. Brett Price and I brainstormed many ideas before we finally landed on the concept of a large-format photograph being taken over the course of the entire video. It’s a long process to make those images, so it felt fitting, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Why did you choose this particular scene for the music video? I think the story behind “Rebecca Henry” is very visual and lends itself to this type of treatment. When Laura Partain agreed to lend her photographic talents and acting skills to the project, it was a no-brainer. What was your favorite part about creating the music video for "Rebecca Henry?” The process of making the music video was so enjoyable because I had the chance to work with my friends. I have known the co-creators of the video, Brett Price and Connor Carrol, for about a decade now, so I was with people I trust in a fun and intimate environment. What did you appreciate most? I’m always grateful when I have the opportunity to share my music with a wider audience. I’ve been heartened by the response to the single by local radio stations around the country who make a point to support independent artists. What's next for you? I am excited to embark on a tour of Germany in September of this year. I’ve been working on a collaboration with my good friend Judith Beckedorf, who is an incredible performer and guitar player, so we’re releasing some music and playing a bunch of dates in her home country. - Stephen Voyce And Zenab Jaber Drop New Release, “Funk Me Up With Your Love”
Pop/R&B recording artist and singer-songwriter Stephen Voyce pairs up with the rocker stylings of Zenab Jaber for their sweet and sultry new single, "Funk Me Up With Your Love." A collaboration between the likes of Stephen Voyce and Zenab Jaber is nothing new. In 2020, the two recording artists teamed up for "Victim of Circumstance." Now, they're ready to slap the music scene with a sensual, groovy, and slow-burn single alongside an accompanying music video. The song's music video was shot in Montreal's Wiggle Room by Chris Mackenzie and features Voyce's life partner, Oro Marzo. The music video sees Voyce and Jaber in full-on performance mode, putting on a wildly passionate show while cutting to scenes of Voyce and Orzo basking in each other's funked-up love. Expanding on the single itself, "Funk Me Up With Your Love," the song sweetly opens with Zenab Jaber's squeaky-clean acoustic guitar riffs that leap into a stellar funk-pop beat. Stephen Voyce's smooth-sailing vocals later pour through our speakers with incredible passion and lust, letting his significant other know that he's ready for the ride. This song sounds like it's straight out of the early 2000s, but with a fiery and funky twist. Zenab Jaber later makes her vocal appearance to give the song a dynamic back and forth, helping us better understand that quaking passion they sing about. We're equally impressed with both artists' ability to bring the listener smack-dab into their storyline; we could best describe it as main character music. If you're looking for a spicy new song to fuel your fire, look no further than Stephen Voyce and Zenab Jaber's sultry new single, "Funk Me Up With Your Love," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Stephen Voyce and Zenab Jaber. We're head over heels for the sweltering heat and passion within your new single, "Funk Me Up With Your Love." When did you begin feeling inspired to create this spicy new single? Stephen Voyce: Thank you for having us; I'm really happy you like the song as much as we loved creating it. 'Funk Me Up With Your Love' was born from a guitar riff Zenab sporadically created during a jam session. We got together to work on music, and in between moments, she played it, and I loved it instantly. We recorded her guitar, just to make sure we had it and then moved on to other music. Months later, I circled back, listened to it again, and knew that we had to do something with it. And so I produced music around it, wrote my lyrics and melodies, and recorded to it. It wasn't something I had to think about, her guitar riff pulled it all out of me. I sent it to Zenab. She came down, wrote and recorded her parts, added new guitar elements that elevated the song, and voilà. I did the first level mix, and sent it off to my frequent collaborator Martin Dee, who added his magical mixing touches, added extra production elements, mastered it, and the rest, as they say, is history. Zenab Jaber: We were vibing together and came up with the riff while jamming. Felt like in the mood of ‘we won’t bury ourselves with an old breakup and negativity, but a more: summer’s coming, let’s vibe with new faces and make the best out of our times. What led the two of you to work together again after "Victim Of Circumstance?" How is that project different from the new single, "Funk Me Up With Your Love"? Zenab Jaber: I love creating with Stephen. He’s such a talented and sweet person. We understand each other, and the chemistry’s totally present. He started working on the song and adding so much to it and surprised me with a good result without expecting it. In 'Victim of Circumstance', we shared the same thoughts and points on subjects to be talked about more often. It’s a little different from 'Funk Me Up With Your Love' by being a little more specific and bringing awareness. The new song is about us being confident and enjoying life. We’re here, no matter our backgrounds and challenges throughout our lives. Stephen Voyce: Funnily enough, both songs were born from the same jam session; this was right at the end of 2019. After Zenab laid down the guitar for 'Funk Me Up With Your Love', she then played a second riff, a riff that would become 'Victim of Circumstance.' 'Victim of Circumstance' is a song that talks about the injustice of discrimination. I think that at the time, with everything that was happening in the world and everything that would happen, that song needed to take precedence then. 'Funk Me Up With Your Love,' on the other hand, is a song about lust and desire, a drastic shift from our first collaboration. It's fitting that it came out now, at a time when we all need a little reprise from the last few years. What was it like shooting the "Funk Me Up With Your Love" music video in Montreal's Wiggle Room? What was that experience like? Stephen Voyce: My Queen, Oro Marzo, who also stars in the music video, introduced me to Wiggle Room, I believe, in 2021. I had heard of the venue before then but had never been to it up until that point. I fell in love with the aesthetic, the vibe, the energy, and their celebration of inclusivity; they host some really amazing burlesque shows there. When it came time to do a music video for 'Funk Me With Your Love', after writing the script for it, I started brainstorming on where to shoot it. I reached out to my social media community, and a friend of mine, Kym Dominique-Ferguson, a fellow Montreal-based artist, suggested Wiggle Room. And instantly, my mind went, "yup, that's the one!" The shoot itself was a lot of fun, we had a tight window to get it all shot in, so that bit was a little stressful, but such is life. We had a small but close-knit crew; we're lucky to be surrounded by very supportive friends who also happen to be amazing artists in their own rights. For example, Montreal filmmaker Chris Mackenzie, a really great friend of mine, came on board as our Director of Photography and co-Director. Nir Guzinski, LittleGalaxia, RainbowLust, also all good friends and talented creators came down to support. When you're surrounded by people who want to see you succeed, how can you not? Zenab Jaber: Wiggle Room! Love that place. The staff is awesome and very welcoming. It’s a true pleasure to film in such a historical beautiful place in our hometown. I’m sure a lot of funk happened in that place haha, Stephen chose it perfectly. What was the most rewarding part about creating "Funk Me Up With Your Love"? What did you enjoy most about the experience? Zenab Jaber: I enjoyed the fun, giving the good vibes and feeling it myself. Our friends were there to be part of it. That was a fun one to do. Stephen Voyce: For me, the most rewarding part was being able to collaborate with Zenab, seeing both of our worlds collide and create something new yet again. I'm a huge fan of her talent, so being able to work with her is an honor. That's the beauty of creating, being open, looking beyond yourself, receiving gifts, and sharing yours. We love the refreshing and relatable lyrics you've brought with your recent single "Mistaken Identity". What inspired this record? Thanks for having me back on BuzzMusic! I got the idea for "Mistaken Identity" about sometimes being misjudged by things. Some people are surprised when I tell them what kind of music I play or that I'm a fan of different genres. Yes, I like the sound of electronic music, but I grew up listening to funk and rock, so I also like (and play) live drums and electric guitars. Dress Code, could you expand on your songwriting process for "Mistaken Identity?" Do you face any difficult moments when writing about the lyrics you did? I got the idea for the "Mistaken Identity" chorus first and then had to figure out how I would pronounce it in the song that would fit with the beat. I wanted the verse to rhyme both in the middle and at the end of each line; then, I needed a pre-chorus that would change the feel of the verse but keep the energy of the song and build to the chorus. The difficulty is that the lyrics don't always come all at once. I'll write part of something, come back, and keep adding to it until it's done. What was your goal regarding the listener's experience with "Mistaken Identity?" What do you hope the single does for them? I hope they like the music, and it sounds catchy to them, but maybe they can also identify with the lyrics. Did you work solo when creating the "Mistaken Identity" production and instrumentals? What was the process like for you? Yes, I work solo. I write the lyrics and use them as a guide for the instrumental part of the song, then count the measures of different parts of the song (intro, verse, chorus, etc.) and go from there. I use both computer production and live instruments. I record the computer parts first and then live instruments, starting with drums and bass, then keyboards and guitars after that. I practice different ideas for each live instrument and record the best parts to go with what I already did on the computer. I do both lead and backing vocals last after the instrumentals are done. What's next for you? I'm looking to get more airplay and promotion for "Mistaken Identity" and to get into music licensing. Instagram Facebook

Feel the vibrations as Kenji Azuma takes us on a healing journey in his latest release, "amairo," available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic Kenji Azuma. We appreciated every second of your reflective and healing new single, "amairo". What was the primary source of inspiration behind this personal piece? “amairo” is the name of a color in Japanese. The color is like a very clear sky. So When I recorded all instruments, my mind focused on “pure, clear sound." Kenji, what was the most rewarding part about creating "amairo?" What did you appreciate most from the experience? The most rewarding thing was that I played all instruments by myself. What do you hope the listener realizes or considers after experiencing "amairo?" I hope after listening to it, the listeners realize the “tiny sound” around them. How did you want the production and sonics in "amairo" to make listeners feel? What was your goal with the song's overall atmosphere? Because I played a lot of tiny instruments. They have a unique sound, respectively. But we are unaware that the tiny sound even exists. I believe all that exists is mean the world. So I’m happy the song triggers a change in their ears. What's next for you? My next project is playing items that are not instruments. Such as muscle potential sound with Dr.X in some universities. YouTube

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Alex Beaumont. We're getting right down with you and your latest empowering single, "I Swear I'm Really OK." What inspired you to create such an upbeat and inspirational tune? Hey BuzzMusic, Thank you for having me! The inspiration for the song is really an ode to my best friend. We would always go for a drive, find somewhere to get a milkshake, and park up in the parking lot. We would just sit in the car and talk about everything. We’d laugh, and we’d cry, we’d talk about silly things and deep things and make some of the most important decisions of our lives, but most importantly, at the end of it, we would drive home blasting sing-a-long anthems that instantly made you feel like anything was possible backed up by the love and support of your best friend. I wanted to encapsulate everything about that moment in a song, so it’s like a little reminder everywhere you go that you are enough, and it is always your time to shine. The instrumentation was a huge part of the process; I knew from the start I wanted a brass section, an ode to the 90s RnB and Hip Hop I grew up listening to. I also wanted it to be funky and different. That old friend but also a shiny new bop vibe, A huge shout out to my incredible producers Connor Rivers and Jessy Covets, for being amazing and making my vision come to life! What was the behind-the-scenes songwriting process like for "I Swear I'm Really OK?" Was it easy for you to be so open and fun with your lyrics? It was so much fun; I had the best time writing this with Connor (Rivers) and Kendall Pennington, who is so talented! We were writing this during the pandemic, we were in different time zones, and it all just fit so perfectly together; it was just all so meant to be! We connected so quickly, and it felt like we were all sitting on the couch together in the same room. We spent some time initially talking about real-life moments of emotion, and we had so much fun writing I have lost count of the number of times we laughed. We had so many lyrics for this song, The tough part was choosing what we kept as we had pages and pages of lyrics! We wrote this in a couple of hours, it was just such an amazing experience because everyone around me who was part of the process fell in love with the song as much as I did, and it was such great energy. How did you want "I Swear I'm Really OK" to impact listeners? What did you want them to realize or feel? For me, this song is important for two reasons; this is the first time I’ve released a song as a fully independent artist, so I’m navigating new waters after the pandemic, and I had to really re-evaluate what was important to me, what kind of artist I wanted to be and carve out what I wanted to do. It can be really overwhelming, and you can constantly be telling yourself you are wrong when you could be being kinder to yourself. So this song is a reminder that says HEY LOOK OVER HERE; we’ve all messed up; it might not always be great but let’s have fun because mistakes aren’t always such a negative thing, and we always bounce back! So it’s here as a bit of a comfort for anyone navigating new things or trying to break a cycle! Let’s celebrate uniqueness and the journey we are all on! Secondly, I wanted to create something that speaks from the heart authentically. I have always tried to be as authentic and true to myself as possible. For one thing or another, you find yourself getting lost in other people’s expectations or bad behavior, and there comes a point you need to take right now and do something about it before you look back and regret it. This song is all about living, loving, celebrating, and being in the moment regardless of the past. We need to love ourselves for who we have become and who we are still becoming in this ever-changing landscape of life! So, in short, love, smile, dance more, regret less, and don’t take any BS! Be kind to yourself and others ALWAYS! Why is women's empowerment such an important theme in your music? How do songs like "I Swear I'm Really OK" represent the kind of music you create? I love music and look up to so many incredibly talented women who inspire me to do what I love so much and by being myself at the same time. For me, I feel totally empowered when being 100% authentic and true to myself. I want to create music that transfers that energy to the person on the other end listening to the song. As a woman in the music industry, I have faced lots of “interesting” conversations that wouldn’t even come close to the table of discussion if I were a man. I have been able to see some of this first-hand, but I know there are other women out there who deal with this every day and, unfortunately, in more extreme circumstances. Comments about very superficial things, constant needless comparisons, and the list go on; I am so bored with this narrative, so I’m crafting my own because none of that defines me or my happiness. My songs are here to remind us all that we are ok, no matter our decisions or mistakes. We are fierce, and our time is NOW. Anything is possible. Let’s go! Instagram Facebook
