  • Sjana Rut Has Us Feeling “Unbreakable”

Sjana Rut is an indie artist in multiple facets, including singer/songwriter and artist. She is an Icelandic powerhouse with a beautiful voice and touching deep lyrics. “Unbreakable” is the ending of a cathartic and meaningful two-part saga, “Broken/Unbreakable.” On November 25th, 2021, Sjana released the album 'Broken.’ Now, the saga continues as Sjana pulls away from the heavy and fragile world of ‘Broken’ and emerges into her confident and assertive self on the transformative album 'Unbreakable.' Sjana has created something truly unique and beautiful here, and in her own words on the matter, Sjana stated, “This project, as a whole, has been both therapeutic and transformative. I wrote ‘Broken’ from the standpoint of a child that is being abused, and then it transitions into adulthood, looking back at these things. I wrote ‘Unbreakable,’ however, from my point of view in the present as an adult, so I can say things that I was not able to as a child, and I say things with confidence. I don't sugarcoat things; I cut to the chase.” The song starts off with a groovy beat and what I would describe as aquatic-sounding reverberation, while her powerful and unique voice mellows out the track beautifully. The song has an overall powerful message behind it, about being unbreakable, her confidence is a matter of fact, and you believe all of what she is saying. “I have finally been set free, you won't break me." Sjana's second part of this two-part saga album, 'Unbreakable,' is all about strength, bravery, and growth. It deals with the shadows of her past and the difficult situations she's faced with confidence and attitude. The album is mature and sometimes humorous. Wrap yourself in the power and unbreakable vibes, support Sjana Rut and listen to “Unbreakable,” now available on all streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Sjana Rut. We appreciated every second of your reflective and emotional new single, "Unbreakable." What was the main source of inspiration behind this personal piece? The song itself is part of a bigger project. It is the title song of ‘Unbreakable,’ which is the second part of a two-part saga called Broken/Unbreakable. The whole project is centered around the subject matter of sexual child abuse. I got the inspiration for the song back in 2018 when I was going through trials alongside my brother regarding a case against a social worker working for child services in Reykjavík who abused us when we were children. We were put in his care from time to time because of the way the bullying at school affected our performance there. Instead of the school taking responsibility, we ended up in his care. The song is also inspired by the process of going through the justice system and all the chaos and uncertainty that comes along with it, especially the pressure that came after the case caught the media’s attention in Iceland- I needed to remind myself of my strength. What was the hardest part about creating such an honest piece like "Unbreakable?" Did you face any personal or physical challenges? When I originally wrote the song in 2018, I had a lot of anger and despair for the situation I felt that I had been put in. But when I started working on the song for the album, I adapted the song to the person I had become after all of this experience and how I viewed it after all those years- but the bone structure and originality of the song remained the same. When I wrote the song in 2018, I didn’t fully realize how traumatized I was. Still, I was diagnosed with severe PTSD in early 2020 and then later with a dissociative disorder- which I dealt with and was in treatment for while recording and producing the song and the whole album. What does "Unbreakable" mean to you? It’s the beginning of a new chapter in my life, and the song is an example of strength and endurance- and for me, it’s also about relief and freedom. How can listeners understand you and your music better through this emotional debut single? Because of my honesty and openness, people are able to understand me and my music better. Listeners are looking into a part of my diary that I’ve never shown to the world before. I’ve got nothing to hide, and people see me as I am through my music. What impact do you hope "Unbreakable" has on your audience? I hope the song and the project as a whole give people meaning and understanding and ground to stand on in life. Whether you’ve been abused or not, you have to live on and keep fighting to make some meaning of it all. I hope it gives people the strength to believe in themselves. What's next for you? I have an art show planned at the end of this year that features paintings by me of each song from both albums Broken' and 'Unbreakable.' I have concerts planned and a vinyl release as well as some new upcoming albums and projects, which I can't wait to start working on! I have projects and albums planned for the next couple of years- I’m just warming up! Instagram Facebook

  • ISSAMWERA Squared. A Review of the Song and History of the Artist

ISSAMWERA is an Icelandic Afro-Fusion collective fresh off the release of their single, "Issamwera." The song is a vibrant and riotous, afrobeat hit that is sure to take you back to your roots. The song features tribal non-lexical backing vocals, organically timbered percussion, and ethereal notes from the electric flutes wrapping around the effortlessly outreaching lead vocals. ISSAMWERA said of the song, "Our song, Issamwera, which means welcome, is about unity, how much at ease we get when we know we are in a place where we belong, the beauty of belonging, the beauty of connection, and the beauty of finally having everything flow effortlessly." Through the backing vocals, organically timbered percussion, and ethereal notes from the electric flutes wrapping around the effortlessly outreaching lead vocals, Issamwera sun-bleaches daily trivialities while reflecting the strength and importance of unity. This song is for fans of Retro Stefson, The Groove Family, and Total Hip Replacement. With a fresh and nostalgic sound, ISSAMWERA's latest single, "Issamwera (Welcome)," is a powerful reminder of the importance of unity. The song's Afrobeat-infused rhythms and soulful vocals are sure to transport listeners to a place of belonging, while the lyrics reflect the beauty of connection and flow. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Issamwera. We truly appreciate such a relatable anthem for our times like "Issamwera" What inspired you to write about the current situation in the world? Thank you for inviting us; we feel quite blessed. Something is going on in the world that we wanted to address, and we wanted to address it in a positive way. We are being pulled by the media and strange ideologies that we are forgetting to be ourselves, human, and to be human is to be together, united. The song Issamwera is about unity, about the beauty that we find when we set our differences apart and become one, there is a sense of belonging, which in today's world is rare to see, and we wanted to address that with this song. Could you expand on your songwriting process for "Issamwera?" Do you face any difficult moments when writing such emotional lyrics? Living in Iceland, we have experienced all sorts of things, and as they say, the grass is never greener on the other side; we know because we come from different backgrounds and different cultures, we have a unique view on things, and we wanted to take advantage of this "life-sight" if I may say, and truly share positivity as much as possible. We converted our experiences into positive experiences, life lessons, and uplifting moments, and we managed because we were together. The strength of being together as a collective made all the difference. And if we could do this with ourselves, we can do that to others, uplift others, and tap into the beauty of the process. What was the most rewarding part about creating "Issamwera?" What did you appreciate most from the experience? We are thrilled that award-nominee Sunna Fridjons joined us on this song; I mean, we did the unimaginable, blending African traditional music with Icelandic Folk and lyrics. We wanted to tap into our experience here in Iceland, the polar cultures, and the differences, and still find the element of unity in it. What do you hope the listener realizes or considers after experiencing "Issamwera?" If there is any hint of frustration or isolation, then this song is for you. Like A&R Factory said, this song is to "dance all your worries away,' put a smile on your face, and leave you with a sense of ease, a sense of belonging; with our music, we want to say, "you are welcome here," truly welcomed. What's next for you? Finally, we are having our release concert this year, which will open doors to many more concerts and opportunities like releasing our music videos and going to the motherland to perform. Ever since the restrictions were lifted, we want to go as big as we can, and we are excited about that. Instagram

Allow Lorraine Bautista to help bring your guard down and guide you to the "Frontline" with her mesmerizing new single, now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Lorraine Bautista. We're truly in awe of the passionate atmosphere and loving vibe of your sophomore single, "Frontline." What inspired you to write such an emotional and affectionate track? Thank you! ‘Frontline’ is a laidback summer track and was written for those looking for inspiration in times of uncertainty and doubt— feelings I often struggle with myself as an artist in this industry. ‘Frontline’ is for my hustlers and baddies out there who are chasing a vision! It’s really about having faith even when others don’t believe in you. What was your songwriting process like for "Frontline?" Was it easy to be so open when writing your passionate lyrics? It did take some time to flesh out the song. I wrote most of the lyrics and do want to give credit to Anita from Metronote, who helped in structuring the song. Anita encouraged me throughout the entire process, along with SOS Dynamikz, who created the rhythm, and Gary Jones, who did an amazing job on the mixing & mastering — all of who brought the entire track to life. My main goal in the writing process was to keep the words and lyrics simple, all the while containing a message of hope and perseverance. What was your goal for the overall vibe and atmosphere of "Frontline?" What did you want listeners to feel after experiencing the song? My objective behind the track is to empower women and spread the message that anything is possible when you don’t give up & when you have faith in yourself (& with God, of course). It’s about having the courage and stepping into your own regardless of what others may think. How does "Frontline" contrast with your debut single, "Had It All?" What are the key differences between these two songs that make up your current discography? Definitely, “Had It All” is more of a classic pop ballad with minimal instrumentation: piano & strings. With “Frontline,” I wanted to explore more of an urban sound that has more of a trap RnB flow to it while still incorporating a bit of that old-school soulful sound I’ve always loved as well. While I do like that LA urban trap sound, I’d still like to stay true to my love for classic old-school music, which I definitely want to keep in my sound as I continue to create and grow as an artist. • Taylor B-W Euphorically Weeps Her “Tears of Coal”

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, the modern-day nostalgia queen, and pop/r&b recording artist Taylor B-W cries her "Tears Of Coal" in a new exhilarating single. Taylor B-W takes cover under a broad pop umbrella, creating unapologetic, phat pop/r&b music with personal, relatable, and emotional lyrics. Inspired by the likes of Vera Blue, Kimbra, BANKS, and MJ, her affinity with 90s music and culture is palpable. She brings these themes to life on stage, performing sold-out shows around Sydney, and in her new singles like the latest, "Tears of Coal." The song is a wildly emotional ride that merges stimulating electronic music with invigorating pop elements to crash our speakers with a cathartic listening experience. She delivers all the passion and soul we could ever ask for. Expanding on the new hit, "Tears Of Coal," we jump into atmospheric and minimal instrumental while Taylor B-W's soothing vocals serenade us with her personal lyrics. She expresses those tumultuous moments in an unsteady relationship, keeping her guard up at all times while trying to fill a void that should have remained empty. The song's hook takes off into the celestials with brilliant electronic synths that pump up the energy and vibrance effortlessly. The blend of organic and electronic instrumentation in this song is perfectly balanced; it packs so much emotion from every angle and helps us better understand Taylor B-W's musical approach. She ends this cathartic anthem on a relatable note of confusion, yearning to find an answer without weeping her "Tears Of Coal." When you're in need of a heartfelt banger that commands every bit of your attention, check out Taylor B-W's new single, "Tears Of Coal," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Taylor B-W. We truly appreciate the honest and relatable theme of your latest single, "Tears Of Coal." What moments or experiences compelled you to create such a cathartic song like this? Firstly, thank you for your lovely compliment! I wrote 'Tears Of Coal' randomly whilst noodling on the piano and daydreaming. I had been single for some time and was thinking about how I'd feel once I let someone into my life again. The anxiety and fear that came up as a result of thinking about this were overwhelming - I've been burned by so many partners in the past that I knew I'd have to be super cautious when entering a relationship again. At the same time, building up a wall could sabotage me, too, so sometimes it is better just to let yourself be carried away by love - it is all about the balance. So 'Tears Of Coal' was inspired by this idea: rising up from the ashes and being open to love again. What was your vision for the production and instrumentals for "Tears Of Coal"? What vibe did you want the song to offer? I had a very clear vision of how I wanted 'Tears Of Coal' to sound. I really wanted to try my hand at electronic folk, or folktronica, and r&b, which I fell in love with when listening to artists like Vera Blue and Jarryd James. So I recorded an acoustic, folky demo with vocals and guitar and sent it to my producer, Liam Quinn, along with a playlist of very specific references. Liam just got the brief instantly, and he and I knocked out the first full demo within one day! It is so easy to produce and arrange a song when you already have such a clear understanding of what you want. What was the most rewarding part about creating such a therapeutic and honest song like "Tears Of Coal?" I think what is most rewarding is that I know I'm not alone, and many people have related to this song. Love is scary, love is messy, and it can be really challenging. A theme that resonates universally, everyone has experienced it in some way or another. I love being able to put my own poetic spin on this well-known emotion. I am so lucky that I can harbor such feelings and pour them into my creativity - it is so cathartic for me too. Did you want your listeners to pick up on any specific messages or realizations after hearing "Tears Of Coal"? What did you want them to experience? What I am most proud of with 'Tears Of Coal' is how poetic it is - I often consider myself a poet first and songwriter second, and it is fun to combine the two. As I am a big fan of layers, particularly in pop music, I want my listeners to really listen to my lyrics rather than just focus on the polished pop surface. People don't always expect 'depth' in pop music, but if they really pay attention to the lyrics of my songs, they might take away a lot more than what meets the eye (or, in this case, the ear). What's next for you? This week I have just announced my debut EP, coming out on August 26th, called BTW TBW! This EP has been a long time coming and will feature 'Tears Of Coal' (as well as my other singles 'I'm So Broke' and 'In Ur Net') plus 3 more songs. I will also be embarking on a Regional NSW tour this October to celebrate the release of the EP. So big things are coming your way, and they aren't going to stop any time soon! Instagram Facebook

A tangy, tantalizing metallic flavor cut itself from its indie predecessors' cloth. The Great Emu War Casualties have provided what their fans demand and have embodied everything they can be with their new single, "Modern Indie Spacecats." The song "Modern Indie Spacecats" is an indie song that is about a person who is struggling with their mental health. The song is sung from the perspective of someone observing the person working. "Modern Indie Spacecats" is a mix of emotions, and it is clear that the person singing is fed up with the person they are observing. The song has a lot of emotion and is relatable to anyone who has dealt with mental health issues. In a time where mental health awareness is at its peak, The Great Emu War Casualties bring solace and comfort in a time of need. Based in Melbourne, Australia, The Great Emu War Casualties have carried listeners through journeys of soul searching, longing, and loss, releasing hit after hit for the past four years, earning their 10,000 hours, and inspiring the masses. Welcome to Buzz Music, The Great Emu War Casualties. Can you start by telling our readers what the meaning is behind the song "Modern Indie Spacecats?" Joe: It's not written with anyone meaning in mind. It's more of a broad stroke with one eye on the immediate past and one on the immediate future. I have an image of my own that plays in my mind when I sing the chorus, but I'd hope that you can find your own meaning in the song. Could you expand on your songwriting process for Modern Indie Spacecats? Do you face any problematic moments when writing such vulnerable and emotional lyrics? Saskia: I wrote the music bed for Spacecats on Garageband whilst going crazy in hotel quarantine (remember those days?) Then it sat there for months doing nothing. Then once I had forgotten about its existence, all of a sudden, Joe came back with this awesome vocal on it. So we sent it to Bibek to put some proper drums on, and it came back with these stupid space disco sounds, which were amazing, so we left them there. Then I asked Joe to do a guitar solo at the end of it, and he hates guitar solos, so he purposefully recorded something super OTT and ridiculous, and it was perfect, so we left it there. You should ask Joe about the lyrics. Joe: My life is increasingly becoming a rapid succession of problematic and emotional moments. The writing really gets done in these long stretches of personal crisis. I'm not putting a lot down on the page, but I'm jamming with ideas and thinking a lot. I'm busy a lot. The pace of life feels nonstop and relentless. Then one day, something clicks, and I end up picking up the guitar at 9 am and putting it down at 3 am, and there has been this huge outpouring of stuff. I mean, like, that can take a long time to happen. Months go by with nothing, then suddenly 12 proper ideas form. And then, really, the writing is in editing this downpour of bits into a few key hooks and themes and wrestling it into some songs. It works, and it doesn't work. Modern Indie Spacecats just happened one day over a period of 2 years. What was the most rewarding part about creating Modern Indie Spacecats? What did you appreciate most about making the single? Saskia: Being able to properly re-record the drums in a proper studio on Fender’s money. We can get away with quite a bit with home recording because Cal is an amazing mixing dude, but there’s just something about real drums that can’t really be replicated. We didn’t actually go into the studio with the intention of doing it, but Bibek knocked it over in about five minutes because he’s a machine. So that was a nice surprise. Joe: I only fall in love with the material when I'm looking back on it. It was really enjoyable returning to production work with Cal Barter, who did some earlier records of ours, and we were privileged to have been able to record the drums for this on Fender’s money. I love working on music with Bibek and Saskia – collaborating with the band is something I do my best to appreciate even when the glass is half empty. Speaking of glasses and volume, did you know that Cadbury glass and a half-style purple color is copyrighted? Probably just for chocolate, isn't it? I used to live by a Cadbury factory back home in the UK. When I was in school, they shut the place down and unemployed half the parents. Might release a purple-colored record next. What are your thoughts on the current state of the music industry? Saskia: The word ‘myopic’ springs to mind. Pop is officially eating itself. It’s sad because there are loads of interesting artists out there still making great music. But labels don’t want to (or can’t) take a punt on artists that don’t already sell, even the indie ones. And I honestly don’t think many people even really listen to music anymore unless it’s stuff they already know. I think even established artists are struggling atm. I keep asking everyone if they’ve heard the new Arcade Fire album, and it’s like, ‘oh… are they still a thing…?’ But maybe that’s just me. There actually seems to be a pretty cool indie rock scene in the states atm, though! What's next for you? Saskia: Another single and an EP! That’s it, really. Until the one after that.
