Don’t miss the stimulating and serene new release “Tired/Sad” from Mary Scholz, available on all streaming platforms. A warm welcome to BuzzMusic, Mary Scholz, and congratulations on your latest single, "Tired/Sad." What was your intended takeaway from this song? What do you hope listeners find from your lyrics? When I sat down at the piano to start this song, I felt very defeated - so deeply exhausted and sad, and I was over it. But, the more I kept writing, the more I realized that to judge myself against the successes of other folks is to hold myself back. It made me confront the shadow, the "monster under the bed," if you will, that ultimately was just...me. And so, while the song starts with this feeling of defeat, it makes its way to the victory of stepping out of the shadows and recognizing my power. And that's what I hope listeners take away from it. That feeling of victory over the darkness - that first step out into the light. What was the production process like for "Tired/Sad?" Is Jonathan Wilson a producer your work with often? 'Begin Again' is the first record I've made with Jonathan Wilson. I enjoyed working with him and am so happy with how it all came together. For each tune, we'd start by having me describe the intention of the song and the ideas I had (or didn't have) for it. I'd play it solo while the rest of the band listened through. From there, we'd slowly start playing the songs together, finding out where they needed to go. We did this one by one, giving each song, like "Tired/Sad," its own musical treatment but creating a cohesive flow through the record from start to finish. "Tired/Sad" came really naturally to us as a group, lifting up from solo piano at the top to this hymn of hopeful melody, dancing between the vocals, Hammond, harmonies, percussion, etc. How has your music evolved from your first album release to the release of "Tired/Sad?" What elements (if any) have stayed consistent? I released my first EP so long ago, and while my style has shifted through the years, the music's core has always been personal songwriting about healing, self-trust, and the human experience. This particular record combines some of my earlier pop influences with the really earthy, grounded folk and Americana sounds of my last few releases. It feels like a very rounded look at who I am musically, and I love that. What is your songwriting process typically like? Where do you draw inspiration from? It differs from song to song, but so frequently, I will sit down with an instrument, find my way into a melody, and start writing from there. Sometimes I am very intentional about what topics I want to write about, and sometimes I let them come to me as I sing. It surprises me when words come out that I didn't realize I needed to face or address. But they always present themselves, the ones that are hiding in the wings. In the case of "Tired/Sad," I was aimlessly sitting at the piano, playing a chord, and singing that opening line. It made me grumble, honestly. Almost immediately, I got a text from my friend Sarah, asking how I was, to which I replied, "I just started a song with 'I am tired, I am sad, and I'm tired of being sad for everything.'" We both laughed. Lucky for me, she was nearby, and we met up to go for a hike together. Masked outdoor activity was the level of socializing we were at, at the time. When I got home, my mind felt clear enough to pick the song back up and find my way through it. And that's what I draw inspiration from. The feelings that tug at me, the lives of my loved ones, the interactions I have with other people...all of us just finding our way through life, separately and together. What's next for you? We're working on music videos for this record, and I'm always writing. But right now, I'm back on the road, celebrating the release of 'Begin Again' on 7/22, and I am so happy to be connecting with folks in person again. I am really lucky to be able to share my story and to be graced with the stories of audience members who come for the connection and joy that live music allows. Instagram Facebook

Together, they create cheeky, irreverent, rockabilly-inflected country-pop tunes for both children and adults to appreciate. With impressive musical pasts from all members, there's no doubt why The Roughhousers have managed to become so successful in such a short period of time. The debut single, "Princess Mike," is a song about a beloved grownup who doesn't abide by typical gender roles and spreads good cheer wherever he goes. Hitting play on the music video for "Princess Mike," the scene sets with a bearded Grey DeLisle riding a bike with Eddie Clendening. As we transition into a Barbie-esque pink house, both DeLisle and Clendening suit up in their best attire and float around the house while serenading us with their sweet, conceptual lullaby. The giant teddy bear helps maintain the child-like theme, but the song's lyrics help adults find a few laughs. - Toxic Earthlings Calls On Us To Save "Mother Earth"
Nostalgic grunge/punk rock recording artist, producer, and singer-songwriter Toxic Earthlings releases his big, bold, and meaningful debut single entitled "Mother Earth." The compelling debut single is the result of dedicated artistry from producer and songwriter Ryan Schurman. His brainchild, Toxic Earthlings, is on a mission to spark self-awareness of our brutal impact on the planet and our societies. Schurman said that living in these fragile times; it's devastating to see us repeat our mistakes from the past. So much so that we're reaching a boiling point. He discusses climate change, human rights issues, and the wars being waged in front of our eyes. But, with a little hard work, dedication, and hope, as can save our precious home, "Mother Earth." Listening to the debut single, the instrumentals roar open with heavy electric guitars and stomping drums that pierce our speakers right off the bat. Schurman's raspy and powerful vocals take our speakers by the horns and throw us into the fire of his conceptual lyrics, discussing how we humans can't seem to treat our home right. This song is a thrilling scorcher of a single, and it's one hell of a way to kick off a solo music career. Schurman urges us to rethink our choices while the exhilarating instrumentals pump through our speakers with energy and might. Before we know it, Toxic Earthlings sends us into this lively, upbeat, and anthemic outro that leaves us chanting Schurman's lyrics until the very last beat. Do your part in changing our world for the better with some help and motivation from Toxic Earthlings' debut single, "Mother Earth," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Toxic Earthlings. We genuinely appreciate such a conceptual and thrilling song like your debut single, "Mother Earth." What inspired you to create a song about climate change and treating mother nature better? Living during a global pandemic with injustice events unfolding around us and being stuck at home during a lockdown really pushed me to the creative breaking point. We've all become very disconnected from the original ties we used to share with our land and "Mother Earth." Being bottled up in concrete wastelands far from clean running rivers and lush forests, we continue down this path of destruction and inequality with one another. At the end of each day we all share the same planet and this song's intention was to make you remember where it all began when times were much more rooted in the basic necessities of life that we have now forgotten. It is time we listen closer to indigenous peoples & their communities, to understand our lost connections and appreciation for the land "Mother Earth." What was your songwriting process like for "Mother Earth"? Would you say it was rather cathartic, considering your performance is so passionate and eager? It was a very cathartic process. Being able to flush out all the bottled-up emotions I've saved up during this global pandemic and harness them all into this one song. What was the most rewarding part about creating "Mother Earth"? What did you appreciate most about creating the single? The most rewarding part about creating this single was being able to write, perform and produce every aspect of this song myself. Being a drummer all my life and performing other people's music has been amazing, but I've always dreamt of writing my own music someday. Growing up I was always influenced by multi-instrumentalist "Dave Grohl" from Nirvana & the Foo Fighters. I always told myself "If the drummer Dave Grohl can do all that himself, why can't I ?!" So I finally reached my full creative capacity and confidence to stand behind my own song and message. It only took 32 years plus a global pandemic to push me to my creative limit and finally release my own music. Why did you decide to drop "Mother Earth" as your big debut single? How does this song help listeners get to know you? I decided to release "Mother Earth" as the debut single because I felt it was a topic we can all relate to at this time. This song's message is the foundation for building the rest of my concept album, which is currently in the works and I look forward to releasing by sometime in 2023. Instagram Facebook
- Basic Elements Deliver a Heavy Dose Of 80s Archival In “Scream 4 Love”
From Pheonix to Los Angeles, and from 1985 to 2022, the explorative 5-piece band Basic Elements return to the music scene with thrilling new singles like the passionate anthem, "Scream 4 Love." Produced by Ed Buller, Basic Elements first made waves on the scene in the 80s during their late teens. They made a name for themselves by playing alongside local legends like Gin Blossoms, Gentlemen Afterdark, and Caterwaul. After disbanding in 1991 to start their own separate careers, the band reformed in Los Angeles to deliver their pure, uncut 80s sound. Now, Basic Elements is reviving tunes they wrote in the 80s and reminding us that this particular sound and style can never die. They bring everything we love about that vibrant and iconic era in their exciting and upbeat anthem, "Scream 4 Love." This sweet single is a love letter to the idea of love itself. The radiant single opens like a ray of sun in the morning sky, beaming through our speakers with the brightest synths while maintaining this groovy progressive rock atmosphere. The lead vocalist's warm and Bono-like vocals shower us with passion and energy, reminding us that love is the only force that can bring us together. Basic Elements continue to sonically dance through our speakers with low-groaning sci-fi synths and chilling electric guitar riffs alongside soul-piercing drums. They carry us to the outro like we're floating through a sonic daydream back to the sweaty, vibrant nightclub scene in 1985. Give your ears the treat they deserve with Basic Elements' blast-from-the-past 80s sound in "Scream 4 Love," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Basic Elements. After listening to your radiant single, "Scream 4 Love," we feel like we've stepped into a time machine." So what inspired your group to write a song about the idea of love itself? We originally wrote this song in 1985 when we were teenagers. Back then, we were a bit myopic about love, so the song was more about reading the signs that you had the green light to make your move and working up the courage to talk to someone. Coming back to it today, we're a bit older and wiser. We've all had our share of love and heartbreaks, so the 2nd time around, we decided to tweak the lyrics to be an ode to Love with a capital "L" instead of being fixated on one person or moment. A prime example of that is the chorus. All of us just went through a generational pandemic, and there's a lot of turmoil in the world right now, so what used to be "Give that girl some attention" has now evolved into "Give the world some affection." Was "Scream 4 Love" one of the songs you wrote in the 80s? When reviving these songs, do you put modern spins and twists on them? Yes. Our producer, Ed Buller, worked on 5 of our old songs with us. Each one of them got its degree of updates and twists, but nothing that altered its DNA. We've released cassingles for each track, and the B-sides are archival versions of each song from a jam in our old rehearsal space back in 1985. Just five kids playing songs inspired by their heroes across the pond. It's pretty cool to hear them both side-by-side. The songs were always there. Ed made them a bit better — and recorded and mixed them beautifully. What bands, artists, or projects is your band most influenced by? Did you have any of these influences in mind when creating "Scream 4 Love?" Our band started as a defense mechanism because we were all getting beat up for dressing like Duran Duran. Those guys were always kind of Ground Zero for us (so it's cool to see them get their Hall of Fame recognition this year). Aside from them, Simple Minds, Japan, Tears for Fears, Echo and the Bunnymen, TalkTalk, and early U2 were always big influences, but so were lots of rock acts like Pink Floyd, The Who, Police, and King Crimson. All those influences still apply today, but now they include artists like Foals, Rüfüs du Sol, and more than anyone, LCD Soundsystem - I'd say they hold the biggest place in our hearts right now. Was there a core message you wanted to get across to listeners in "Scream 4 Love?" What impact did you want the song to have on your audience? We hope all of our music provides a sense of euphoria. These songs were written in the '80s, so they have a distinct feeling of nostalgia, but they're not tied to anything because they're brand new. You're free to go wherever you want! For "Scream 4 Love," we hope it inspires people and promotes love and tolerance, but if they just want to dance their asses off, that's fine too. All our songs are designed to make you feel good and dance — except "Hide!" That's a straight-up, fist-in-the-air protest song. What's next for you? Well, we got the band back together, and then the pandemic hit, so we'd love to get out there and play some live shows again. We have a few new songs written that we're going to record, and we're excited about that too. We haven't written together since the '80s, so the songs fit right in with our sound. But first, we need to release the last of our Ed Buller tracks. Plotting the release of our next song, "Shakin'," in the fall, so hopefully, we can back that up with a show or two and debut these new songs at the same time. Instagram Facebook
- A Prevailing New Rock Single "Dirty Dog" From Jane N' The Jungle
Strap yourself in for a wild and hard-hitting journey that is the song "Dirty Dog" by Jane N' The Jungle. Rock band Jane N' The Jungle is made up of Jordan White, Brian Dellis, and "Big B." Based in Phoenix, AZ, Jane N' The Jungle uses classic rock melodies, in-your-face guitar, and animated lyrics to convey their message. Produced by Chuck Alkazian, Jane N' The Jungle's latest single, "Dirty Dog," is a fearless and energetic rock single. The band describes the song as having a strong message and an unforgettable story. "Dirty Dog" is immediately ear-catching and intense, with a heavy emphasis on guitar that sweeps you off your feet into the song's core. This high energy echoes in the vocals, where Jordan White gives a powerful performance with her gritty and angsty voice. Her personal connection to the song comes out in the way that her blazing vocals deliver the lines. Jane N' The Jungle is advocating for taking charge of your experiences and not letting people who grossly mistreat you have the power. After a sexual assault, songwriter Jordan White rewrites her narrative and uses that fire as fuel for her creative outlet. She sings "big fish in a small pond, never felt like I belonged" to intimately describe an isolating experience. From impassioned vocals to spunky guitar, "Dirty Dog" leaves you feeling purposeful and in control of your own life. Check out "Dirty Dog" by Jane N' The Jungle now, available on all streaming platforms. It's a pleasure having you on BuzzMusic, Jane N' The Jungle! What was the creation process like for "Dirty Dog," and how did working with producer Chuck Alkazian help your vision come to life? Thank you for having us! We always enjoy working with you and your team and appreciate all your support for our music! DIRTY DOG came to fruition after hanging out at a dive bar in PHX with Ayron Jones, talking about a past personal assault and how it made me feel like a "Dirty Dog." Most of the keywords were written on a napkin that night. The band had a demo recording of the song before we went into the studio, so we had a pretty good idea of where we wanted to go with it. Chuck helped tighten it up and brought the song to life while working with him in the studio. What was your experience writing about a deeply personal topic such as sexual assault? Were there any struggles that came with releasing "Dirty Dog" to the public? It was hard to talk about. I am still trying to figure out the narrative and how to explain the situation. I knew it was going to throw a lot of people off as it's a distasteful subject. I figured if I were to tell my story and it resonated with at least one person, making them feel not alone, that it was worth it. I feel like it's a topic most people don't know how to talk about. Releasing this song during the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial was tough because no one wanted to hear about sexual assault during that time, and it made it even harder to talk about it. I think making people feel comfortable opening up and sharing their stories is a good start, and that it's not about the assaulter but more about our experience and what we had to overcome, and that is what Dirty Dog is about, owning your faults and falling in love with the stronger person you've become. When it comes to creating a cohesive sound that highlights all three musicians' talents of Jane N' The Jungle, what drew you to each other? What helps your collaboration work so effectively? I think that is part of the magic of working in a band and as a team. There is special musical chemistry and vibe we all share together. Patience and respect for one another are a big factor in what makes our band work so effectively and have helped get us to where we are today. Who are some artists that inspire you and keep you motivated? How do you use your inspirations and mold them into your unique and tenacious sound? What's next for you? It motivates us to see bands that have been working hard for a long time finally getting their headline and festival tours, making us believe that it could happen for us too. We try to be inspired organically, so our sound is true to ourselves and doesn't sound like anyone else. I'm sure you can find little pieces of inspiration or influences, but that's really never the starting point for us. It's more about the emotion, vibe, and story we are trying to convey. We will be releasing a couple more singles off our upcoming EP and can't wait for you guys to hear! We will be rocking at the Troubadour on July 22nd. Get your TIX. Instagram Facebook

What began four years ago for hip-hop recording artist Lil Blue has now flourished into a relationship with worldwide listeners. He keeps them returning for more with stellar releases like the 2020 hit, "Not Happening (feat. Twonays)." From recording in his sister's closet with an iPhone 5s to collaborating with various producers and music video directors, Lil Blue is quickly on his way to greatness. He has a unique way of expressing himself through modern hip-hop meets r&b, striving to connect and share those feelings with listeners worldwide. Lil Blue hopes to influence fellow creators of his ethnicity to go through with their dreams despite the potential backlash from close-minded people. He's demonstrated pure talent, authenticity, and passion in his various EPs, especially the intro track "Not Happening (feat. Twonays)" from the project Blue's World. This dreamy and sensual track opens with wavy synths that drop into a moody and mid-tempo hip-hop beat. As Lil Blue makes his smooth vocal appearance, he drifts into the hook and praises the savage nature of his relationship with someone close. But don't get it twisted; the outsiders can't get in; that's just "Not Happening." Dancing in the background are Twonays's lush vocals that bring us a timeless r&b feel with her velvety tones and seductive lyrics. She later heats up on the second verse while the smooth sonics keep the groove alive and thriving. Lil Blue joins once again to remind us that no one can get in the way of this relationship; that's simply "Not Happening." Turn up the sultry vibes with Lil Blue and Twonays's atmospheric single, "Not Happening (feat. Twonays)," off the EP, Blue's World, available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Lil Blue. We adored the smooth and sensual sound of your atmospheric hit, "Not Happening (feat. Twonays)." What inspired this passionate and sultry song? Yes! I'm glad you asked that, and sultry is quite a word to describe my song. I like it, haha. Really what inspired me is experimenting with that more ambient tone and playing with pockets essentially. The true message behind the record is whatever and whoever is blocking your vision or demotivating you is not happening. What was your experience collaborating with artist Twonays? What do you feel she brought to the single, "Not Happening (feat. Twonays)"? Funny story, I recorded the song on, let's say, a Wednesday. I texted her the song later that same evening, and she expressed how much she liked it and was ready to collaborate. We got in the studio the next afternoon and knocked it out. Her verse turned into a fluid freestyle and was truly an experienced recording with her. Do you usually create rather relaxed, chilled, and vibe-heavy songs like "Not Happening (feat. Twonays)"? Is this particular sound something you're known for? Interesting, you ask. In my earlier music, I was dabbling more into distortion-heavy and screaming-esque music. Singing for me was born out of always loving really gentle Bollywood love ballads, which translated to me in many ways. What role does "Not Happening (feat. Twonays)" play in the theme or concept of your EP, Blue's World? How does the song fit into the project? "Not happening" is the first track on "Blue's World" and is really meant to anchor the rest of the project. Without care for judgment or background noise, I'm not letting it happen to live in my world. "Blue's World" What's next for you? Currently working heavily on my acting career, and the rest is to be determined. Instagram

Check out “Loving You” by Kathryn Cloward today, and keep an eye out for her upcoming album to be released in 2022. Can you tell us a bit more about the inspiration behind this track? “Loving You” is a love song that has a universal message about how the energy of love is constant and ever-present. Love isn’t contained to time or physical space. Most often, we think of a love song existing in the lane of romantic love, which also encompasses unrequited love and heartache from romantic love endings. But love isn’t linear and only about romance. Unconditional love is all about our natural energy. “Loving You” shares a message that love exists in infinite space. When we experience a genuine connection with someone else—in the “I see you” and “I understand you” realm—that’s a purity of love that’s mega all-encompassing while at the same time beautifully simple. This song was inspired by my feelings of connectivity. Do you remember where this passion and love for the arts all began? My passion for creating traces back to my earliest memories. I have always had a big imagination and an expressive nature. As a little girl, being alone in my room was like being in a magical place where I felt free to create and just be me. I grew up with three older brothers, and they dominated family time. I can’t recall a dinner table conversation in my formative years where I actually shared much of anything, and I certainly didn’t feel seen, heard, or understood. But when I was in my room with my dolls and stuffed animals, I got to speak and express myself to them. I’d write songs for them and give speeches to them. In the privacy of my room, I could articulate my truth. Fast forward a few decades to now, and I still very much create my songs and stories in my personal sanctuary space. It’s like I go into my creative cavern. I hunker down to write, removing all distractions. That’s why the pandemic was so fruitful for me creatively. Even though COVID presented many challenges, it cultivated a fabulously fertile creative vortex for me to write an enormous amount of new material. Did you have an idea in mind of how you wanted the production to sound while writing it? Who helped you bring these sonics to life? I worked with multi-instrumentalist and co-producer Daniel Fritz on “Loving You,” and he did an incredible job creating the song’s vibey arrangement. Our process of working together is beautifully simple and flows with ease. I write a song, then send it over to him in a rough voice recording with my lyric chord chart. I usually paint a picture of what the song feels like for me, the mood I don’t fully capture in a simple acoustic pass. I typically send him some music clips from other works that are similar to the sounds I’m seeking. Then I just let Daniel work his magic. When he’s crafted the core of the arrangement, we go back and forth until it feels done. Depending on the vibe I want vocally, backing vocals are layered in for the sparkle and shine. Layer by layer, the song is woven together. That’s the beauty of true collaboration, and it’s the only way I work now with producing my albums. Can you give us a little insight into what listeners can expect from this upcoming project? My fifth and sixth albums are next. I wrote a lot of songs during the pandemic, and they are all coming down the production pipeline now. My new collections share songs focused on feelings of love, shining our light, and experiencing personal liberation. These songs will resonate with people who are braving their own personal transformation, standing up for themselves, speaking the truth of their own stories, and just living through life’s lessons and challenges the best they can. I write about what I’ve journeyed through, sharing through lyrics that reflect elevating personal awareness of self-love and empowerment, because that’s how I experience life. It’s what matters to me. I’m aware of how the industry works. I’m not industry standard by a long shot. I’m paving my own path for delivering what matters to me. I’m here to pour love into the world in my own unique way. What's next for you? I have a lot to share in the coming 18 months. My new album is part of that. I’m also about to clearly show how my Kathryn the Grape children’s series connects to my Kathryn Cloward songwriting and storytelling. I have a new show in the works that will blend my messages of love, compassion, and empowerment across all ages. There’s a lot coming. I’m excited. Instagram Facebook
