- Addictive Melodies With Enticing Lyrics; JamesEarlWoodz Releases His EP 'South Hills'
JamesEarlWoodz recently released a hip-hop masterpiece with five tracks that will take listeners on a melodic-fused journey. The 'South Hills' EP begins with the song “Cut a Check”; a trendy urban styled hit with addictive resonance in the arrangement. “Cut a Check” has a sound that reminds us of artists like Future and Young Thug. The song has a catchy, repetitive jingle that will have you duplicating the hook over and over. The next song on the EP is “Guava”. It has a vibrant dancehall type of vibe that is perfect for the clubs. “Guava” is the kind of song that promotes fluid body movement and rhythmic dance steps. The single instantly radiates great energy with its paradise sway and feel, and attractive lyrics. The next song on 'South Hills' is the acoustically riveting bop, “Catfish”. A great element to “Catfish” is the romantic lyricism that captures the song’s intention and theme. JamesEarlWoodz delivers great bars with a solid articulation that showcases his skills as a rapper. He demonstrates his ability to blend between both mainstream music and underground raw rap. The next song on this EP slows it down with “5 AM Flex”. This song is a sensual vibe you can add to your smooth-sailing playlist. The song consists of late-night jams you can share with a special someone. This is a new dimension to JamesEarlWoodz’ artistry that we find to be intriguing. It is also more accessible to the multiple sub-genres of hip-hop. JamesEarlWoodz tackles the R&B side of rap music that is sometimes ignored. Regardless, it is a beautiful mix that is appreciated in the hip-hop culture. He ends the EP with “Pumpkin Spice”. The production of “Pumpkin Spice” is soulful with a silk-like texture. “Pumpkin Spice” caters to the women audience with its charming lyrics that evoke confidence and appreciation. Overall, we are able to interpret 'South Hills' as a great melodic project with elements of Rap, Dancehall, and R&B to give the listener an enticing vibe. Welcome to BuzzMusic JamesEarlWoodz! Congratulations on the release of your EP, “South Hills”. What are your main goals with this project? How did you cultivate the concept for this EP and what was the direct influence on it? Hey thank you, it's an honor you having me here and thanks again for reviewing my freshmen EP. My main goals for this project are to accumulate as many streams as I can so I can pay for some music videos. I'm so used to shooting them myself but this year I wanna put it into a professional's hands. But It's funny you ask what's the concept of the EP because for me it's one-word: Nostalgia. South Hills is the name of a broke down mall by me. A few months back I came across some pictures on Facebook of how the mall used to look in its prime when I was a kid growing up in the '90s and it instantly took my back to that time. The feeling it gave me is the same feeling I got when I created this EP so it felt only right to call it South Hills. Needless to say, I'm very excited about my freshman project and very happy with the response I received from the fans. The first 3 days it hit over 5k streams on Spotify and when the first week wrapped up it accumulated another 5k making a total of 10k streams the first week, and it continues to grow. I'm projecting by March 14 which is exactly a month it will be well over 30k streams. I couldn't be happier with the results and my strong first quarter of 2020, considering I only had 19.4k streams for all of 2019 on Spotify. We’ve noticed tons of romantic lyrics in different songs and verses. Songs specifically like “Pumpkin Spice” and “Catfish” felt more R&B. Can you tell us what drove you to create these two songs? Can you personally relate to the story told in both of these tracks why or why not? For this EP I stuck to what I know best, romance and concept songs. My producer DJ Verdict and I really complimented each other on this EP. He makes the kind of beats where I can really get in my bag. His beats put me in my pocket or niche where I can create my sound. Pumpkin Spice is about a female with a big ole round pumpkin booty that is confident and knows she's beautiful. I wanted to make a feel-good record for the ladies and felt they deserved it. Catfish is self-explanatory. I wanted to write a song that embodied everything about being Catfished. I threw in alot of bars which were cleverly written. I used words common for fishing like lured me in, caught her online, and even threw in Nev and Max who are the creators of MTV's Catfish. Personally I've never have been catfished to the extent of the lyrics written in my song but I have experienced people portraying a false image of who they are. “Guava” had a fun dancehall aesthetic that we liked! Can you detail to us the production of this song and how the creative process for this allows this vibe to come in play? Guava was the only beat done by a producer who isn't part of my team the Beat Taggaz. DJ Verdict produced every record on South Hills except Guava. Guava was actually a beat I purchased off Certi beats which he named Guava. So you could say the name of the beat actually helped with coming up with the concept. He makes alot of dancehall beats and this one I instantly connected with and it practically wrote itself. I edit all my songs myself and this one everything came so easy and when I was finished I knew it was the one. The only other record that also came this easy was cut a check. My creative process is I listen to a beat on the ride home from work and most times by the time I get home from my commute I'll have the song written and its time to record it in my home studio, right before I have to pick up my daughter from after school. After she is fed and put to bed is when I find the time to edit my music. “South Hills” was a genre-bending EP that showed lots of diversity and creativity. What was the biggest challenge you stumbled upon during the creation of this project and how did you manage to overcome the obstacle? The only obstacle I came across is finding a healthy balance between music and family. I've spent alot of time doing shows, networking at events and doing interviews with radio stations which took alot of time away from my family. My promo run took up the whole calendar of February. I was booked every day and was extremely busy. So I made sure after Valentine's day when the Ep released I would spend more time with them but also doing some lite promotion. I'm fresh off the plane from vacation. It feels good seeing the numbers going up as I'm sipping pina colada's on the beach. I couldn't be happier that I get to this time with my family, but it will be short-lived because I plan on releasing another project before the end of the year. Tell us, what is next for you JamesEarlWoodz? The sky isn't the limit, there is no limit for JamesEarlWoodz. I will be releasing a bunch of singles for the rest of the year. I am also featured on alot of records from artists all over the world and plan on releasing another EP later this year. My team the Beat Taggaz will also be releasing alot of music this year so expect to hear more from us. Because this is just the beginning. Shout out my squad DJ Verdict, Jonzkid, Farkas, M.Woods, and Grillz without these guys Beat Taggaz wouldn't be as successful as it became. Everyone in my team got some heat dropping this year so be on the lookup for us because we're the next up. facebook.com/JamesEarlWoodz instagram.com/jamesearlwoodz #BuzzMusic
- DAKOSTA Gives a Vivid and Thought-Provoking Delivery With New Album 'Order Out Of Chaos'
Eccentric Pop artist DAKOSTA has recently debuted his album 'Order Out of Chaos', which features his truly eclectic pop styling. As an artist who hails from Seattle, WA, DAKOSTA has always found himself reluctant to express his inner thoughts and feelings. Once the music materialized, his ability to express himself became easier. It's difficult to call DAKOSTA's style strictly Pop because he's an immersive artist who prefers to demonstrate a versatile side of Pop music. DAKOSTA integrates a range of genre elements within his tracks, and his music is truly a refreshing perspective. He adds an array of R&B, EDM, Industrial, and Classical sounds in order to create both energy and sound that is eccentric. In these ways, he breaks genre expectations. The more integral part of his album is the attention given to messages and themes. "Order Out of Chaos" begins with the spoken-word track, "Fools". This song sets up the atmosphere that DAKOSTA has designed. Almost immediately we are exposed to "War". In this song, DAKOSTA offers a melodramatic vocal performance combined with an exasperated production. The particular production within "War" undoubtedly accentuates drama. His vocalizing and overall tone makes the overall track incredibly climactic. “Questions” provides an energetic environment. DAKOSTA dives deep into his personal thoughts while offering energetically intensified ambiance with the heavy EDM-style integration. DAKOSTA also uses "Questions" to bring about some politically-driven and thought-provoking lyrics. "Not Righteous" is one specific song on DAKOSTA's album that offers a riveting and mind/body sensation. In this song, DAKOSTA impresses with his ability to effectively communicate important messages. We are treated to a more mellow listening experience with DAKOSTA's song, “Bad". The chosen blend of synths brings an eerie vibe, and DAKOSTA makes the listening experience incredibly mystic and almost haunting. Lyrically, DAKOSTA delves into deeper and darker themes. "Nihilism" maintains this same kind of energy. Production is created in order to stimulate a more dark and otherwordly atmosphere. As we move onto the 7th track of DAKOSTA's album, titled "Healthy", we noticed a suspenseful introduction shortly broken by DAKOSTA’s vocals. "Healthy" brings a unique perspective. He explores integral themes such as addiction, mental health, and destructive behavior. The production of "Healthy" matches the content of the song. The next stream of tracks, "Do That", "Phoenix", "Happy", and "I Am" all provide a sense of self-worth. DAKOSTA urges a surge of confidence for his listeners. "Do That" maintains that staple melancholic energy that DAKOSTA's production entails. "Phoenix" incorporates divergent style from the other productional soundings of the album. "Happy" follows suit with flourishing in a diversified productional atmosphere. We found that DAKOSTA held more of a lighter tone in this particular track. "I Am" reverts to DAKOSTA's roots, and offers a visionary listening experience. DAKOSTA brings a sense of flair to "I Am" by changing his vocal performance. These changes bring a refreshing aspect to this album. These collections pave the way for positive messages to be received by listeners. DAKOSTA communicates uplifting and inspirational messages through these songs. The next, and last three tracks "Order Out of Chaos" sees is "6:19 Pm", "Rebirth", and "When Love Burns" outline DAKOSTA’s vivid rejuvenating perspective. He delves into the appreciation he has for all life. He describes how one is able to reshape their own mindset in order to grow and flourish. These are the themes we appreciate. No matter what track, DAKOSTA always has an integral and positive message to explore and communicate. This makes “Order Out of Chaos" a stimulating album. We felt refreshed at the end of DAKOSTA's album. Check out DAKOSTA's album "Order Out of Chaos" below. Welcome, DAKOSTA. Congratulations on the release of "Order Out of Chaos." As a 14-track album, "Order Out of Chaos" sees a vast array of production stylings, as well as significant messages being communicated to all listeners. How did you feel creating an album that holds so many different messages, each holding its own importance? I feel that my job and my calling as a pop artist is to write and make music that listeners can use in their own lives to empower themselves, face themselves, and ultimately free themselves. I also feel, as an artist who is both African American and gay, that it is my personal duty to speak truth to powers that aim to destroy my people. the concept of the album was always to have a narrative that starts off in the dark and takes the listener on a journey into the light. but then trump happened and the concept took on a deeper, more urgent and purposeful meaning. besides that I have to give credit to Janet's Rhythm Nation 1814, Madonna's Ray of Light, Gaga's Born This Way, and Rihanna's Rated R. without those four albums I wouldn't have had blueprints to follow for making this type of pop album. As an artist who originally found it difficult to express themselves, "Order Out of Chaos" is quite the expressive mix! Can you share with our readers more on your personal experience with music as a means to communicate your inner thoughts and feelings? Well, I've always been a pretty expressive person since I was in high school. I was always super shy about my voice and just singing in front of people in general. but as an adult, with the help of my friends and my family, I said 'f*** it, I'm making music'. songwriting though has never been a place where I hold back what I feel. writing out my truth and speaking my mind is why I started writing songs in the first place. just wanted to throw that in there. but I never expected a large amount of freedom, personal power, confidence, self-love, high-self esteem, and joy that recording and singing songs I wrote would give me. it's the greatest form of therapy as well, I definitely think that everyone should start recording just to let their inner bullshit out. Which track off of "Order Out of Chaos" holds the most important for you lyric-wise? Are you able to dive deeper into the creative aspect of this song, and the process that went along with expressing such a theme? Healthy for sure. That was a song I wrote about someone who was in my life. he had a mental breakdown and developed schizophrenia. Fortunately, he is off the streets, off drugs, and safe. This track is pretty much a drug intervention. it was hard to make though because I'm not an instrumentalist at heart and I don't play the piano. So there were a lot of late nights in bed with my laptop (I used the keyboard that was on the laptop) and headphones piecing Healthy together. The outro was inspired by the music in Lana del Rey's outro for her "Freak" video (the scene when everyone's swimming). How do you feel the crowd resonates with the messages you express in your songs? What's the overall energy in your crowds like, and do you feel comfortable being on stage and expressing yourself and your vulnerabilities explicitly? I've never performed at a venue before. I'm very much so looking forward to doing it in the near future. The times in my life where I've performed have been quite scattered. For instance, I haven't performed since 2017, before that 2011, before then, '04 lol. but in 2017 I performed 6 times (3 times at my Edmonds community college and 3 times at a spoken word open mic). singing was a bit easier because I've been practicing with my vocal class and the songs I sang were classical/traditional songs for the most part. those words were not mine, that's why I think it wasn't as nerve-racking even though it was a larger crowd. but with the spoken word I read three of the tracks from order out of chaos (fools, bad, questions). I don't even remember all of it because I was so nervous and had so much adrenaline each time from speaking my own material on stage, even though the crowds were smaller. the energy of both crowds though was quite welcoming because at the college and at the open mic the idea and the point was for everyone to be supportive. Considering the eclectic mix of themes that "Order Out of Chaos" saw, are you planning on expressing similar or newfound themes in your next work? Well, making songs, and albums, that really mean something, will always and forever be my aim. period. but to answer your question more directly, I am working on something special that is attached to order out of chaos. and come mid to late July I will be back to tell you and your readers every aspect of its creation. instagram.com/dakostamusic #BuzzMusic
- JAMÓNS Spin a Tall Tale of a Long Legged Beauty Named "Mommy Long Legs"
JAMÓNS is a powerhouse rock and roll group that always brings energy to the table. Based in Los Angeles, JAMÓNS is made up of longtime friends, Brandt Shandera, Chris Glaab, Nicholas Romero, and Kennedy who have come together to create a sound so fun and so bold, it could only be from California. Drawing their influences from genres such as rock and roll, punk, blues, garage and ska, JAMÓNS combines their masterful instrumentation with playful lyrics. Their new single "Mommy Long Legs" is no exception. Laid over their rock and roll fusion beat, JAMÓNS tells the story of a beautiful woman with legs for days, that is so greedy for material things that she’s likened to a spider. You can hear the band's influences placed subtly throughout the track, elements of each genre are placed perfectly to blend the song, rather than segregate it. Even the energy that the band has become famous for while performing, is traceable in this recording. As "Mommy Long Legs" plays and the chorus swings around, all you want to do is dance wildly and never stop. We can only imagine what their live show feels like. In fact, every layer of this song from conception to production is pristine. "Mommy Long Legs" is fun and the instruments are played masterfully. I’m sure you’ll love the song just as much as the band loves playing it. Welcome to BuzzMusic JAMÓNS and thank you for being here! Your single "Mommy Long Legs" is a treat. You guys bring back real instrumentalism and classic genres in a world that seems to have left that behind. What first inspired you guys to begin making your music? Thank you, that’s very kind! We started as a teenage ska-punk band in the 1990s, and we reunited to play some shows in 2018. We’ve all remained friends, and we have a blast playing, so it just made sense to get back into making new music together. We’ve expanded the palette a bit, with our diverse influences and interests. The story of "Mommy Long Legs" is a pleasure to listen to. What inspired you to write this song? Kennedy’s mother is quite tall, and she’s almost entirely legs. We kid. But honestly, Kennedy has a wonderful ex-girlfriend who inspired much of the imagery. The production on "Mommy Long Legs" is supreme. The genres you guys draw inspiration from are all present, but in subtle ways that blend the song together instead of pulling it apart. What was your production process like for this song? Thanks! Kennedy recorded this on his laptop, in our rehearsal studio, and in his bedroom. We used mobile recording equipment that Kennedy was beta testing for another project which he recorded in Iraq. You are known for your energetic and inspiring live performances that are described as, “a slam-bang rock and roll party.” What emotions do you feel before and during your performances? At first, it’s nervousness and insecurity, but once we start slamming and banging, and the bodies in the room start grooving, everything just melts into a wild river of euphoria. What can we expect to see from JAMÓNS throughout 2020? We’re releasing two more singles over the next few weeks, and then we’ll be working on more new material. We’ll also have some exciting live shows coming up this year. (Be sure to follow us on Instagram and Spotify!) Also, our sax player has a new tooth. jamonsmusic.com #BuzzMusic

Paired with a soothing voice, fresh tone, and unique cadences, Emerald B’s music will transport the listener to a calm state of mind. Her latest single, "Helium” was released on March 8, 2020. It was inspired by her past struggles with her depression but reflected in a more positive light. With all of her skill and emotion worked into this single, she has the ability to elevated the listener's spirit and soul. The key part of why "Helium" connects well with its listeners is how well Emerald B constructed her melodies with her lyrics. You can tell that every part of this song was well thought out before recording. She begins her track with simple but beautiful melodies to match her smooth vocals. Additionally, her chorus showcases gorgeous melodic elements without losing the catchy necessities a chorus should have. Not to mention, the pronunciation of syllables in her words is unique and very alluring as well. The instrumental in "Helium" is simple in the fact that there aren’t too many instruments. However, it does an amazing job of backing up Emerald B’s incredible voice. Anyone listening to this song will recognize Emerald B’s talent because of how well she put together every element of her song. Hey Emerald B! BuzzMusic is very proud to be part of your new release “Helium”. This track touches upon a lot of ideas of depression and mental health. Is that something that you hope you can better connect and reach out to your fans with the release of this song? Hi, thanks for interviewing me today. Yes, I hope that I can connect and reach out with my fans with the release of this song. I really want it to inspire and help others and know that they they are not alone. Everyone has struggles in life, but they do get better. The way that you phrase some of your words and melodies are incredibly interesting. Did you grab inspiration from anyone to do something like that? Or did you learn from experiences in your musical career thus far? My inspiration came from my mom. She helped me write this song, and she is amazing with lyric writing. The song was inspired by past experiences and learning about hard times. Also, in the studio at Cleveland Sound Lab, James helped me change some words to improve them. From reading a post online, everyone is in love with the broadcast version of “Helium”. Did you try to incorporate any elements from that performance into your studio version? Yes. I picked the location for the video shoot. Since “Helium” is a single release, will you follow up with an album or ep release in the upcoming year? Hey Saint Cono, welcome to BuzzMusic! We were totally captivated by your vocals and sonic emotion. Could you share with us some of the inspiration behind your single “Feelin’ I Got”? "Feelin, I Got" is a feel-good pop track about the electric and effortless connection of new found love. I wanted the musical elements of the track to deliver an instant ‘happy and in love’ feeling. I wanted listeners to be filled with nothing but good vibes when they hear to this song - the same way we feel when love hits us - it’s instant and addictive. People you’ve worked with noted your broad variety of music taste is, and your need for musical exploration. What are some of your favorite genres? I'm a huge lover of RnB, pop, 80’s, disco, and electronic dance. “Feelin’ I Got” has beautiful electric production backing up your vocals. Do you have a producer? Or did you produce the song as well? Katmaz (who is featured on the track) and Braden Blair, brought the track to life, production-wise. During the studio sessions when creating this track, I would be humming melodies while Katmaz was creating the sounds. In parallel, Braden Blair threw his flair, like a layer. What is so special is that Katmaz and Braden Blair are homies, so it's a real family affair that exists during the studio sessions. Both Katmaz and Braden Blair bring some real innovation that helps create a hot sound. - Cami Galles Shows How to Dance through Heartbreak in New Song "No Light"
Photo credit: Karl Schmid Cami Galles is an eclectic and soulful singer-songwriter who has taken the influence of Prince, Aretha Franklin, Susan Tedeschi and has woven together her own unique identity as an artist. From growing up in a small town and transitioning to living in the big city, Cami Galles's journey as an artist leads her to her first single "Elevator." Since, Cami has gained the attraction of over 53k social media followers and has played iconic venues in Chicago like Soho House, The Drake Hotel, and Rosa's Lounge. Cami Galles captivates the audience from her first steps on stage with her charisma, confidence, smile and tantalizing voice. Cami's track "No Light" is an exciting electronic dance song. "No Light" opens with beautiful mellow piano chords and melodic vocals before exploding into a dance-centric party in the chorus. "No Light" is a simple yet exciting track that keeps you hooked throughout with its calm verses, explosive choruses, memorable melodies, beautiful vocal tone, groovy drum rhythms, and positive songwriting. This is one of those songs that will keep you dancing all night long. Listen to "No Light" here. Hi Cami, welcome to BuzzMusic! We're in love with your album "Correlated" every song has such a unique vibe while feeling part of the same album. Could you tell us about the thought process when writing and producing each song on "Correlated"? Every relationship in life relates back to our relationship with ourselves. They are all Correlated. While writing about some of the wildest relationships I've had, it called my attention to the need to work on my relationship with myself. The last song on the album God Only Knows is a promise to me to live a life for myself and to be kinder to myself really. I wrote all the songs myself and worked with a very talented co-producer, Joe Hurt to create the backing instrumentation + arrangement for the songs on the album. He is also the featured keys & organ player on all the songs. Each song has a different vibe as each relationship is different. What ties them together/makes them correlated is that they are all real-life experiences and the love I approached them with was the same. Additionally, the style of my vocals and backing vocals are related in the sense that they are all me. It's amazing to know that you started writing so young, truly a gift! Has the classical and contemporary training from when you were eight influenced the music you're creating now? Did you ever think your style would be what it is now when you started singing and writing? Yes, I loved singing and would sing so much that my parents had to ban singing at the dinner table. I'm the youngest of six girls and it was my way of expressing myself and standing out amongst the herd as being the youngest you don't quite get the same attention or new things. My classical training allowed me to see that music, passion & success is a discipline. You have to practice every day. Learning to sing in French & Italian at a young age was very difficult, although invaluable as a lesson in patience. I love to do impersonations, so it has definitely helped with that. Also, the ear training, as well as sight-reading as a classical musician is very useful and something that I'm grateful for. At times I do/did feel a little frustrated though... classical training does not lend well to power belting & emoting the blues for example. Everything has to be on the pitch, to the exact beat & enunciated perfectly, whereas soul music or pop is just how you feel + the exact opposite. It took me about 6 years of retraining to allow my natural/contemporary voice to come through. While I didn't think my style would be this starting out, I'm glad it has evolved and allowed me the opportunity to be brave and tell my story & put it out there. I would not have been able to share my soul if it were a classical album. Can you tell us about "No Light," where did you draw inspiration for its story and musical direction? How did its inspiration compare to your first single "Elevator"? No Light is about a time I experienced immense heartbreak. My highschool sweetheart who was my best friend and confidant allowed his narrow-minded/ignorant friends from Ohio to shout horrific things into the phone while he was talking to me when he was visiting his home town on holiday break. Growing up in Kansas it was very challenging being bi-racial. I thought he loved me for me and was my ride or die. We talked about getting married and spending our lives together, although our relationship was never the same after that, as here he was, letting people insult me with hate speech. Young love is always tough esp when you think it's meant to be forever. The music production is set to a reggaeton beat as dancing through the heartbreak during those times and throwing myself into school/my audio engineering saved me. I went to college in FL, so it was important for the song to have a backing beat that was similar to what I was listening to/making back then. Also, the lyrics are a bit dark & even in the darkness there is always a glimmer of light, so it was important for the song to be heavy yet still something people could move to. It must be exciting to have been able to perform at so many iconic venues, do you have any goals and ideas for future shows? What are your favorite things about performing your music live? After my show at Arlene's Grocery in NYC, I had one of the biggest compliments paid to me: "you sound better live"! I love performing live because it's such an intimate moment that I get to share with those who want to come on my journey with me. I get to share what the songs about & every time I perform it, it's different each time & yet always perfect in that singular delivery. The stage feels like home, so I'm always honored to play live and share my music with audiences. I'd like to play a summer music festival in Chicago, playing Red Rocks is def on the bucket list (the acoustics there are insane). What can we expect next from you, Cami Galles? More music & more live shows. I've been back in the studio recording new singles. - PWR CPL Releases Their Powerful New Single on International Women's Day; “Like Fire"
R&B duo PWR CPL based out of Los Angles finally released their insanely dancey tune “Like Fire”. The duo consists of incredibly talented co-producers, songwriters and vocalists Jon Lall and Summer Jasmine, blending their styles to create a collection of intriguing sounds. Displaying their Jazz, Hip Hop, and Electronic influences heavily through the first part of their 4 part “BLKS” series, titled “BLKS - FEEL”, released in July. Following with part two titled “BLKS - MIND” to be released in the spring of 2020. PWR CPL creates an empowering and soulful message through their music, all while taking time to be advocates for positive change. “Like Fire” begins with upbeat and powerful production, amplifying Summer Jasmine's energetic vocals. The song incorporates some Pop elements, as well as catchy electronic loops and hi-hats. Not to mention the underlying complex arrangement that Jon Lall has meticulously placed. With playful and empowering lyrics, the energy of the song is something different from what the group has recently released, and we’re blown away at their broad sense of style and ability to create effective music. “Like Fire” is a perfect song for an exciting night out and one to add to your Saturday night playlist. We’re incredibly excited to see what moves PWR CPL makes next. Listen to "Like Fire" here. Hey there PWR CPL! Welcome to BuzzMusic! We’re incredibly excited to feature your latest single “Like Fire” off your upcoming project! What drew inspiration for the upbeat track? "Like Fire" is inspired by the #metoo movement started by Tarana Burke and is a song about women's empowerment. It's a high energy hype track that represents coming out of the shadows and shedding light on important (and uncomfortable) issues that we've been told to ignore and hide, leaving women to be isolated and cope alone. It's an anthem of coming together and confronting these deeply systemic issues of misogyny head-on. Beyond the lyrics, it's a song to bump and feel fly as hell. PWR CPL is an incredibly cute name. How long have you two been working together professionally? The name PWR CPL comes from the idea that we all strive to be power couples, whatever the nature of the partnership may be. It's about the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts, how opposites bring balance and strength to one another and the powerful relationship between music and humanity. We have been creating together for years, but PWR CPL was officially born in 2017. “Like Fire” is pretty different than the songs off part one of your “BLKS” series. Could you share with us the concept behind the four-part series? Like Fire is actually a stand-alone single that we wrote for the women's movement. We wanted it to stand out from our other works to make a loud statement and show our support. The four-part series is called BLKS, for the building blocks as well as stumbling blocks in life, creative blocks that we have to work through as artists and a nod our studio block in LA, one of the most culturally rich and inspiring areas to make music. Our debut EP FEEL dropped in 2019, which was more emotive songs. MIND will drop in June, which will feature more heady tracks with heavier electronic elements and VIBE and HYPE will follow to complete the building blocks and the 4 part concept series. We’d love to see the energy behind “Like Fire” during your live performance! Any upcoming shows in the near future? We are super excited to perform our new tracks live. We are planning a MIND EP release in LA followed by a west coast tour in June. We will be announcing dates and venues on our website soon. (www.PWRCPL.com) We can't wait to hear your next move PWR CPL, what can fans anticipate next from you? We have a ton of new music we have been cooking up and are really excited to share it with our fans and new listeners who vibe with our sound. We will be dropping the second single in May followed by our first official music video. This summer will kick off our MIND EP release party and west coast tour. In July we will be going to Europe to perform, finish writing the last two BLKS EPs, and connect with our international fans. We are super hyped for what 2020 has in store and are so grateful for all the support we've received along the way! instagram.com/pwr_cpl
- Jessica Foxx Normalizes Vulnerability with “Heartbreak Anthem”
Jessica Foxx is a small town, big dreams pop artist from a farm town in Connecticut. She was a born musician who began dancing and performing at age 3. Throughout her childhood, Jessica took acting and vocal classes to harness and improve her natural talents. After she moved to Los Angeles in 2014, she was accepted into the Vocal Performance program at the prestigious Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Soon after, Jessica Foxx began to release her original music that fuses aspects of dark pop and electro-pop. She creates an edgy musical personality with this unique blend of genres. Jessica’s new release “Heartbreak Anthem” blends electronic sounds and wicked vocals to create a dark tone. She hits every note effortlessly, showing off her powerful vocal abilities. The electronic soundtrack is subtle enough for listeners to focus most of their attention on Jessica’s vocals and lyrics. “Heartbreak Anthem” is a relatable song about numbing emotions after experiencing heartbreak. It is a confidence-boosting track that allows fans to have a soundtrack to their independence. Jessica engages her audience by connecting with them through the honest, authentic messages within her songs. She keeps her fans close to her heart as she continues to maintain her relationship with the “Foxx Mafia” through social media. Listen to "Heartbreak Anthem" here. Hey there Jessica Foxx! Welcome to BuzzMusic! We’re completely thrilled to feature your single “Heartbreak Anthem”. Could you share with us what inspired the catchy song? Hi thank you for having me! The whole idea was when you have a huge crush on someone but don't know if the feeling is reciprocated. You've been anticipating hearing from them and it's kinda all you can think about. You're just waiting on some words of affirmation that they're feeling the same way! I had a huge crush on this guy and basically got ghosted by him when I started writing this song so I was feeling pretty grim about the situation, luckily songwriting is very therapeutic for me and I was able to get the rollercoaster of emotions out and move on. I hope this song does what it did for me to whoever listens to it and is dealing with a similar situation. You started releasing your own music after moving to LA in 2014. How has your life as an artist changed since moving out here? I've definitely been mastering my craft. I write all my own music and it used to take me forever to finish a song, but it's easier for me to get all my ideas out quickly now that I have a sort of systematic approach to my songwriting. My mentor, while I was in music school, was Leland, he's written for Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Troye Sivan and so many other huge artists, I learned a lot from him. I also interned for Rodney Jerkins "Darkchild" for a few months after I finished school and was able to watch the way he and his team created songs that were legendary. I think collaborating with other people and seeing different approaches to songwriting can only help the creative process! Could you share with us some major artistic influences of yours? I have an obsession with the early 2000s and it really influenced this song in particular. It's the stuff that made me so excited about the music industry when I was a kid and why I wanted to become a singer. I loved the pop anthems, crazy music videos, and theatrical performances from that time and want to bring that back. But my main influences are Britney Spears and Marilyn Manson. "Blackout" is my favorite album of all time and Britney's videos and performances are self explanatory-she's a legend. Manson's ability to provoke such strong opinions from the world through his art and not care what people think is so liberating to me. I appreciate anything that's controversial and pushes boundaries to get people thinking. It reminds me of this Gaga quote “When you make music or write or create, it's really your job to have mind-blowing, irresponsible, condomless sex with whatever idea it is you're writing about at the time.” Which is really what I did with this song, I felt so dramatic writing it but knew I needed to take it to that extreme level of vulnerability to tell the story. You have quite the fanbase, aka the “Foxx Mafia”. What do you think your fans like most about you and your music? I think they appreciate that I'm a DIY artist. I don't have a whole team of people influencing what I'm doing so they know all the stuff I do is coming straight from me. I write my lyrics and melodies, I come up with my single artwork and photoshoot ideas myself and soon music videos. I have a very clear vision and I think they know the best has yet to come with me, I plan on doing big things. What can fans anticipate next from you Jessica Foxx? More consistency with my music in 2020! instagram.com/thejessicafoxx twitter.com/thejessicafoxx #BuzzMusic
- Singer-Songwriter Alexia Trif Tells a Story of Love in Her New Release "Still in Love’’
Alexia Trif is a Romanian singer, songwriter and record producer. She signed with Blue Sound Records in August last year and her debut single ‘’Hidden’’ was released in October. She has now released her second single ‘’Still In Love’’ ahead of her debut album which she plans to release in May 2020. Alexia’s latest offering ‘’Still in Love’’ was released on the 15th of February. The song is an R&B / Hip Hop track that tells the story about a break up in which Alexia still has strong feelings for her ex-partner. Her opening lines ‘’I know you’re still in love with me, you know I’m still in love with you, but we don’t talk to each other’’ which is an experience that many people can relate to. The first part of the song reflects on the good times. In the second verse she sings about how he’s trying to forget his past and move on from her but she can see through him and how he’s behaving on the surface. "You keep lying to yourself, but I can easily see into your eyes You still care about myself’. She questions him and tries to see if he’s willing to work on things since they were so deeply in love. Her smooth voice accompanied by the groovy beat results in a catchy song which you will want to have on repeat. Listen to "Still in Love" here. Hey there Alexia Welcome to BuzzMusic! We're really pleased to be featuring your latest single "Still In Love". Could you tell us about the creative process, and what inspired you to be so open and vulnerable on the song. Hello, BuzzMusic. Thank you very much! I would be more than happy to talk about this. Well, I usually start writing a song by playing chords on the piano and adding the vocal line and the lyrics afterward, but this was not the case for “Still in Love”. The song’s chorus popped up in my head while I was taking a shower. I must have been frustrated as me, and my “ex” boyfriend did not have a proper conversation for quite a long time. I think it was just vanity from both parties, even though I was convinced that we were both still in love with each other. Therefore, the song came up as a dedication to him. It’s so exciting how thoughts and desires can turn into reality. Not long after I wrote this song, we got back together. I didn’t know that I will ever release any of the songs that I wrote, but somehow, music did its magic. Not only that it brought my boyfriend back, but it brought him as my producer and mixing engineer who I am thrilled to work with. Without him, this project would not have been possible. The song has been written in the key of C sharp minor in a measure of 4 crotchet beats with a classical structure, namely first verse, chorus, second verse, chorus, bridge and 3x chorus where each part opens up a different scene. From the production point of view, I wanted something simple, so the chosen instruments are drums, snaps, bass, choir and strings. Strings are my favorite instruments. You will most likely notice their presence in most of my songs because they simply resonate with my soul and personality. Because I wanted to bring the 90’s air to the song, some vinyl scratching sounds have been added as one last detail. Who are your biggest inspirations? Michael Jackson is my first idol. I started listening to his music when I was a little child, and there was something special about it that made me fall in love with him as an artist. I have been amazed by his vocal timbre and his singing technique, the concepts behind his videos, the artistic image that he created during his career. He was able to express his feelings through his transparent and full of emotion voice, the unique harmonies within the vocal production, the chord progression, the overall music production and the meaningful lyrics. His stage presence, choreographies and stage outfits are also essential elements of his personality which had a significant impact on my personal development as an artist. He is my inspiration, motivation and the main reason why I chose this path. Britney Spears is another inspirational persona within the music scene which I relate to in many aspects, such as vocal technique and timbre, genre, style and attitude. I think that all these mutual features made me appreciate and admire her, ever since I discovered her, whereas she became a role model in the early days of my music career. Along with Michael Jackson and Britney Spears, other artists have inspired me, namely, Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and many more late 90’s artists. Also, contemporary artists like Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Mabel, Zhavia, Dua Lipa and Bruno Mars are part of the daily basis inspirations. We are aware that your debut album is being released in May of this year, could you tell us what we can expect to hear on the album? The story behind the album is based on my love experience. Each song represents and describes the different stages and moments of my first relationship. Various styles and genres have been approached while working on this album, which helped me to freely express my feelings and emotions. Due to the positive and negative aspects of my relationship, the album has been named Sweet & Bitter. Therefore, “sweet” associates with the good parts of the relationship while “bitter” is the opposite. By listening to all the songs, you will find out more details about my story. Are there any artists who you would love to collaborate with in the future? I am an open-minded person, so I would happily collaborate with other artists who share the same passion for music, regardless of the genre. I do consider that great things could also come from unexpected collaborations between people who have different cultural and musical backgrounds. There are many artists that I would love to collaborate with, but if I have to name a few, Jorja Smith, Stormzy, Kwabs, Kara Marni, Rahh, Lady Leshurr, Lewis Capaldi, Lil Baby, Zhavia Ward, Post Malone, and NF will top the list. A few artists from Romania, which I would also love to collaborate are ROXEN, Connect-R, Killa Fonic, Carla’s Dreams, Uddi, Randi and Smiley. Thank you for talking with us Alexia, and congratulations on "Still In Love"! What do you think fans can expect from you this year? Since most of the people who listen to my music are from Romania, I will be performing a few shows back there and in the UK this year. I am currently working on my very first merchandise which will hopefully be available soon. Beside my debut album, I am planning to release more music and maybe a few collaborations. Thank you very much for having me. It was a pleasure to answer your questions. facebook.com/Alexiatrifofficial instagram.com/alexiatrif #BuzzMusic
- Rich Hardesty Gets Political in New Release “Keep America (Freedom Sings)”
Originating from LaPorte, Indiana, Rich Hardesty is a long-time experienced musician who covers important topics with his music and uses his lyrics to assert his strong opinions. He learned how to play a multitude of instruments, starting at the age of 8, including piano, guitar, harmonica, and percussion. He also mastered the astonishing skill of performing on a unicycle on a treadmill. Through his long-standing relationship with music, Rich Hardesty has developed a career creating songs with a combination of rock and roll, country and pop genres. Rich Hardesty’s “Keep America (Freedom Sings)” is meant for a specific type of audience; college students were the original target audience that launched his career. Ever since he released his first album “Jones’n” in 1992, he has continued to produce many other controversial songs including “Ganja Plantation” and “The Break-Up Song.” Rich’s songs cover topics that generally result in conflicting opinions, and he introduces an almost comical edge. “Keep America (Freedom Sings)” has a catchy background drum beat which is paired with subtle electric guitar riffs. The background instrumental is the only part of “Keep America (Freedom Sings)” that is understated. His lyrics attract the most attention because he wrote his song from a nationalistic, anti-globalism perspective. Rich Hardesty includes countless strong remarks such as “throw socialism in the can” and “propaganda wants you to lose.” During the chorus, Rich shares his political views by singing “keep America great again,” switching the phrase to “keep America winning again” at the end of the song. For those fans with strong conservative values that match Rich Hardesty’s, “Keep America (Freedom Sings)” is a political song to remember. Listen to “Keep America (Freedom Sings)” here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Rich! You expressed many strong opinions in your new release “Keep America (Freedom Sings),” can you elaborate on your message with this song? When you love America......you write a song about it. I feel blessed to live and work in the greatest country on the planet. This country has given me the chance to fully realize my gifts and talents... and I'm super grateful for that! I wrote this song to celebrate America, look after one another, be kind to one another... and bless up to this great country. Keep America is about the hardworking men and women who are not only patriots but also make America their North star. Together, we build the dream and look after our great nation as an army of kindness. You have been creating music since your first album release in 1992 which was made famous by a college student fan base. Can you tell us how your music has evolved since then? I believe you can create your own reality and that thought can become things. The song that made me famous "The Break-Up Song" was a song I wrote in the dorms and that was the gateway song to hundreds more. It led to stoner songs like "All My Friends Are Stoners" that lead to me being a movie called "Totally Baked" with John Oates as well as getting featured in High Times Magazine twice. My gateway song took me to Negril, Jamaica performing for spring breaks where I would be inspired to write hundreds of songs including "Back to Jamaica" and "Black Sheep Butterfly" that would later have me recording with Julian Marley and Sly Dunbar in Kingston on my reggae album "The Sunset Show". I have been on a musical personal growth wave always being aware of my thoughts and my vision never taking my eye off the target. I have traveled out of the country over 50 times to soak up the culture and find inspiration for more material and releases. I have found myself in Third World countries with my guitar singing to the less fortunate and building neighborhoods to keep them safe. Losing my dad to brain cancer also kept me writing and in the studio as I used my art as therapy to heal. Songs that came from that are "Sleeping Tiger" and "Like a Boomerang". Becoming a dad made me also look in the mirror and dig deep into my soul to later release albums like "Authentically Rich " where i decided that I would continue to stay independent as an artist so I could be "me" and not have to fit into the mold of a record label or a genre. Staying authentic also means I can give my fans the music they want in it's raw "Rich" form. Change is inevitable but my personal and musical growth has always been an option. If you listen to all 17 of my records you can see the personal growth that has taken place along the way. The songs are stories of my life good and bad. I have always been able to grab the guitar and hit the hills or light a candle and sit at the piano instead of reaching out for a false hight to get me through. It has not always been easy. I was sponsored by Jagermeister for 18 years and I will never forget the 36 city tour in 6 weeks where I was grateful to make it home alive....lol. I don't like comfort zones so I have always been the artist who took the road less traveled in order to remain different. There are times when I felt pressured to write for society or cookie-cutter radio formats but then had to get back to the basics and to my authentic roots. It's been nice to record in New York (Tin Pan Alley), Nashville (Sound Emporium/The Cabana with Chad Carslon) or LA with Gregg Wright and other big artists but I am happiest when I am writing and recording in my home studio with my dogs on the floor and the candles lit. That is where the tears are shed and the shivers go up and down my spine. You mastered the very impressive and intricate technique of performing on a unicycle on a treadmill. Why did you decide to learn this skill? Has it helped shape your musical style? I remember thinking that it could be done and that we as humans are limitless. I thought what great cardio exercise too. I practiced and learned while my little boy was about 2 years old sleeping on the couch with the dogs. I still have the original video somewhere. The next thing you know I was on a plane being flown into the Late Show with David Letterman and had my act recorded on the Ed Sullivan stage. I got "bumped" from the show that Thursday on the same day Johnny Depp and his band were there getting taped. They asked me back right before David retired. Then AGT called and The Gong Show but I didn't want to be a circus act. I ended up releasing a similar video on youtube "Go Cubs Go" for my moms' bday as she is a HUGE Cub fan. I believe everyone is limitless! At the end of your song you switched the usual chorus lyrics from “keep America great again” to “keep America winning again.” What was the significance did this change, and what did you mean when you said “winning?” I am pro-America and I love this greatest country on earth. I recognize that the economics of our country have gotten better, jobs for minorities and women females have gotten better, controlling immigration situations have improved. Manufacturing jobs are coming back to our country. There is a cultural war going on in the world between the evil and the good. I am reminded daily of a book I read by Napoleon Hill "Outwitting The Devil" where he talks about fear, indecision, hypnotic rhythm vs positivity. Winning to me is focusing on the good and the positivity and not giving energy to the fake evil negative evildoers who provoke propaganda and dogma. What can we expect to see next from you throughout 2020? I want to become the best version of myself that I can be. As an entrepreneurial musician, I will be laser-focused on doing things that will allow me to have the time freedom to keep traveling and building relationships. I want to create when I want to create, sing more and collaborate with other like-minded people as I build my brand. I am in the business of making people better and that makes the world better. "You can have everything in life that you want if you help others get what they want" - Zig Ziglar. instagram.com/richhardestyauthentic facebook.com/richhardestyfanpage #BuzzMusic
