Dallas’ Justin Pittman, a singer-songwriter and pianist under the name J Sidney, has kicked off the new year with his new latest demo, “The January Project.” The demo consists of four songs which will be released throughout January 2020. “Emotional Hues” debuted on January 1st, 2020 and will surely have you yearning for his next songs: “Balcony Dreams,” “Nucleus of Now” and “Irrational Anthem.” J Sidney uses his music to tell a story about himself, society, and life as we know it. This personal connection and passion that he includes in his songs is what makes them so alluring to the listener. Over the last few years, Davey Squires has been pushing his way into the music industry and has truly entered with a bang. After just learning to play the keyboard in 2014, he began performing live four years later, touring coffee shops and anywhere he could showcase his talent for vocals and piano. He takes inspiration from many big names including Billy Joel, Ben Folds, and R.E.M. In 2019, he released his first EP “Signatures” and first studio album “Fiction” in the same year, displaying that hard work does pay off! One of the singles off Davey Squires’ first album, entitled “It’s Never”, is primarily a rock track with impressive guitar riffs and an assertive beat, perfect for lifting your mood on your morning walk to work. Tiffany Johnson found her passion and love for music at a young age and was motivated by her ability to capture a moment or a feeling in her music. She certainly captures many emotions in her new song “Here’s to Forgetting You,” a pop-style song with a hint of country. “Here’s to Forgetting You" is sure to touch your heart and your dancing feet! A.O. C.entral C.ommand is giving a new meaning to hip hop with the latest album “Episode 4: Operation Blackbox.” What we love most about A.O. C.entral C.ommand’s creation of his music is the way he's able to take his listeners on a journey. As if you’re watching a series unfold, A.O. C.entral C.ommand numbers each album with "Episode_" giving a creative and unique branding to his music. "Episode 4: Operation Blackbox" was a dynamic take on rap music. The opening tracks impressed us with “Coward With Power” and “Illegal To Be Black”. Both of these songs stood out to us in the introductory portion of the album. The lyricism behind both of these songs was powerful. The songwriting approach that A.O. C.entral C.ommand took in the first five tracks had us thinking that he's a bold and strong lyricist. He spoke on various topics within the first 5 tracks on his 15 track album which gave you a glimpse of what this project will be about. The opener of an album is always important to the listener. It’s the initial impression and is what will help the listener decide if they want to continue listening. You embark on the middle section of the album, filled with even more powerful messages that had us mesmerized. After listening to the track titled “Victim Of The School System” we had to self-reflect on our own life. “Victim Of The School System” is so thought-provoking and the delivery was so raw that you felt as if A.O. C.entral C.ommand was speaking directly to you. This was a great element to the album and was arranged perfectly. Another component of the album we noted was how A.O. C.entral C.ommand showcased a more diverse side. How? He gave us a melodic vocal arrangement in the song “Damsel In Distress” while keeping the style of the album still in-tact. He delivers hard-hitting lyrics but with a lo-fi smooth jazz melody to the production. “Destination Destiny” was a love bop single with lush elements in the instrumentation and retro dance-pop being showcased while A.O. C.entral C.ommand still gives us a clean rap flow. After showcasing multiple dimensions to his artistry in the middle section of the album, A.O. C.entral C.ommand ends the project off. Closing songs like “Hidden Objective: The Distance” you felt that hard-hitting underground rap that you were searching. A.O. C.entral C.ommand doesn’t hold back. He gives tough bars, intense lyrics, and diverse arrangements with each song on this album, making him a unique artist who knows how to strategically conduct a storyline through music. If you haven’t yet heard of Forrest Hill and his incredible capabilities as a musician and songwriter, this is one act you’re going to want to listen to. With decades of experience, Forrest Hill began his musical journey as a co-founder of Judy’s Tiny Head, a funk rock band based in Boston that was recognized primarily on college radio. Since those days, Forrest has released three studio albums, the latest of which entitled River of Stars, with the help of background vocalists the T Sisters. Forrest Hill has been honored with some amazing opportunities, including TV licensing agreements with major companies such as Netflix and TLC. Forrest Hill’s 2019 single “Guardian Angel” is an upbeat indie folk song, which perfectly complements Forrest Hill’s spirited vocals. His voice is soothing yet passionate, and featured alongside are Hill’s guitar skills, which make for a fantastic addition to the mood of the song. The vocal strength and stylings are reminiscent of those of Gotye, who gained popularity in 2012 for his version of “Somebody That I Used To Know”. Forrest Hill’s years of experience have allowed him to shape his music to appeal to a multitude of audiences, and I would recommend giving “Guardian Angel” a listen to if you’re in the mood for a feel-good, jubilant track. It delivers multiple transitions between intense chaos and emotional conviction. The instrumentation creates a balance between both elements by transitioning back and forth very smoothly and connected. A notable element in "Doomsday Paradise" that I was in favor of was the emotional melodic section of the song. We appreciated how Bearshark switched up the arrangement in “Doomsday Paradise,” to show off their passion and ability to deliver sentiment through a sensational melody. The band sound is both volatile and zealous, giving you a rollercoaster ride to remember with constant drops of hard metal static! What captivates the listener the most, however, is undeniably Megan’s haunting vocals. Megan McDuffee’s mystic vocal resonance and tone take her listener on an undeniable magical ride. “Time Is Running Out” keeps you intuned with each arrangement and has you mesmerized by the vocals that will leave a lasting impression. What’s super neat about “Time Is Running Out” was the enigma that covered the lyricism. The meaning behind the lyrics wasn’t so one-dimensional and surface-based. It's just one of those things that have always been with me. Growing up I started piano lessons when I was eight, had years of private voice lessons, was in world-traveling choirs, and fully immersed myself in music. I couldn't see myself doing anything else. So honestly, I'm not entirely sure where it came from. I think it was just meant to be. Tell us about your song “Time Is Running Out”. What was the most challenging aspect in creating this record and how did you overcome the obstacle? Since discovering Muse, I've always been in love with this song. There's something so sensual and emotional about it, and I wanted to do my own rendition. The most challenging thing on this track specifically was the flow and energy. The original is quite driving, but my version is much more drawn out and haunting. So, keeping the song moving forward was a bit of a challenge. With a few rhythmic changes and extra layers to the vocals, plus the addition of strings, the climax and choruses finally felt like they hit right. The mix was also a challenge, but I spent a lot of time fine-tuning and made everything meld. How would you describe your creative process towards “Time Is Running Out”? First off, I knew it had to fit with the theme and pacing of the rest of the album (which is overtly sexy, gritty, synthpop). The visual I kept in my mind throughout the creation of this album was one of a lounge singer, purring and writhing on stage, in some neon-lit seedy cyberpunk club. Therefore, I knew this song would need to be very smooth, sensual, and haunting. Once I locked in the concept, I arranged instruments and synths to best fit the vision - smooth bass, nice round kick drum, pulsing synths, etc. The visual and concept kept everything on the right track. What inspired the song’s name? How does it reflect the song’s meaning? As this is a cover song, I believe the original is about addiction. With the album concept though, I took it in a slightly more specific direction: addiction TO a person. The title reflects the volatile nature of obsession. What are you looking forward to this year of 2020 Megan McDuffee? Many things! I've got 4-5 video game scores lined up, as well as a couple of voiceover jobs, and of course, releasing an album of my own original music. It's going to be a very busy year! Nav doesn’t consider himself a rapper, but an ordinary individual with extraordinary abilities to find expressions through music. Konsept The Genius released his single titled “It’s Alright”. A single that had us feeling like we are on cloud nine. “It’s Alright” was a panoramic single with augmented components that was compiled in a smooth-sailing and laidback delivery. One aspect of “It’s Alright” that we thoroughly enjoyed was the delivery by Konsept The Genius. His flow, his wordplay, the arrangement of “It’s Alright” was all extremely riveting and reliably-solid. “It’s Alright” had futuristic elements within the beat of the song. A nice fusion of both hip hop and electronic effects to make the beat a well-diverse and appealing production. His wordplay reminds you of the classic hip-hop greats while his style is unique and atypical from the average rapper. “It’s Alright” even had a lo-fi texture to the song that helped you forget about the realities you were facing. It’s just you and the music. The hook in “It’s Alright” was hypnotic, keeping you in a dazed emotion where you feel like Konsept The Genius has magically cast a spell on you during the duration of the song. Konsept The Genius is no rookie to the rap game. He’s been rapping since 2005 and has released several projects and singles to help season himself as a professional artist.
