- D Rolark Releases an Enchanting Jazz Album “This Moment”
D Rolark released an album that I will certainly be playing on multiple occasions due to how riveting each track is. The soothing album begins with “Key Logical”, a jazz-like masterpiece that shows off great instrumentation with a funky rhythm that complements the jazzy atmosphere. “Key Logical” had me moving along to the rhythm while still feeling charismatically absorbed within the song. The next song that transitioned in on this album was “Brighter Nights”. Brighter Nights had a more delightful aura but it still kept the powerful instrumentation intact while showing a new dimension to the rhythmic Jazz that D Rolark presented to us in “Key Logical”. After “Brighter Nights”, “Autumn Afternoon” transitioned in and we fell more in love with D Rolark Artistry. For some magical reason, the entire arrangement of “Autumn Afternoon” felt as if it was a musical representation of the season “Fall”. This was a super cool element knowing the title of the song was “Autumn Afternoon”. This showed us that D Rolark knows exactly how to create meaning through his music. “Encountered” was a detailed record that felt like you were embarking on a super cool journey. The song was very exploratory, enhancing your nomadic characteristic and evoking a sense of curiosity into the listener. “Love Eternal” showed a nice transitional side to D Rolark skills. The smooth-suave vibe complemented the title of the track effortlessly well. D Rolark was able to prove that he can switch the atmosphere up and showcase multiple ranges through his multi-faceted instrumentalism. D Rolark shows us what else he’s capable of with “Rhythm Essence”. “Rhythm Essence” was super dope. This song had a fusion of old school hip-hop combined with his raw jazz skills and it created a super nice blend. “Rhythm Essence” is exactly what feel-good music sounds like and I’ll listen to it over and over again. “Blessed Evening” is the type of song you can dedicate to a significant other. It’s romantic, sensual, and poetic through arrangement without any lyrics or vocals presented. “Blessed Evening” had this smooth vibe that I know will help the moment feel more right! If you’re looking for a song to enhance a connection between you and that special someone, “Blessed Evening” is the song from this album to complete that goal! D Rolark closes the album off with “D’s Groove”. “D’s Groove” was a perfect closing to the album because it takes you back to the introduction of the entire project. It reminds you of D Rolark’s style, sound, and the way he conducts his songs. All in all, “This Moment” was an amazing album well crafted and finely calibrated with diverse dimensions that showcase the versatility that D Rolark is equipped with. You can listen to “This Moment” by D Rolark here! Welcome to BuzzMusic D Rolark! What got you into Jazz music initially? Thank you very much for having me here, and I'd like to say it is both an honor and privilege to be in company with a lot of up and coming artists of diverse talent and honorable merit. My father was an avid jazz fan. This was the music that was played in our home. All of the greats such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, and Oscar Peterson greatly influenced me, as well as grabbed my attention. Also, all of the greats from classic jazz labels such as Blue Note, Prestige, Impulse, and Verve whose rosters contained a massive list of artists signed to the label at the time. My father's jazz record collection was one of the largest collections that I knew of at the time; he had over 1700 albums (which I now have). Growing up, jazz was forming into what's now known as Smooth Jazz. Artists such as Bob James, Stanley Clarke, Return to Forever, Jeff Lorber, Herbie Hancock, and others have had a big influence on me. I started out on rhythm guitar at the age of 11. The switch to keyboards came years later when I saw Herbie Hancock, Spyro Gyra, and George Duke in concert. This is where my love for music turned into a passion. After switching to keyboards, I picked up on Bass Guitar, then other instruments came along to where I now play 12 instruments. Tell us about your album “This Moment”. What inspired the title of this project? "This Moment" was a project that I originally conceptualized back in 1995 under the title, "In This Moment". My primary inspiration was my wife, Dawn, who was my fiancee at the time. The objective was blending Contemporary Jazz with Soul/R&B. The songs on the project changed over time. My mission was to bring love, happiness, and dance from a Smooth Jazz perspective. The first time I recorded it in 1995, I achieved the effort, but I felt it sounded kind of dated, plus it sounded too synthetic. I recorded the project again in 2003, though it was solely done on a keyboard workstation. Some of the songs from that version appeared on my 2015 CD "Smooth Elegance". When I decided to bring that project back to the light, I shortened the title to "This Moment" and removed the "in" from it. Two of the songs that I originally recorded in 2003 were re-recorded and updated; "the title track and "Blessed Evening". In addition, I wanted to put my multi-instrumentalist talents to use playing all of the instruments: Keys, Rhythm Guitar, 5-String and Piccolo Basses, and Drums. How would you describe the major theme in “This Moment”? The major theme of this album is "happiness expressed instrumentally". "This Moment" is an album with a mission to bring love and happiness from a Smooth Jazz perspective. I could have easily recorded an album with a collection of songs with no thematic element, but that wasn't what I was feeling at the time. All of the songs are based on the joys of life, such as the essence of autumn, love conquering all negativity, and dance as a method of expression. It's been said that "Where words fail, music speaks". This quotation couldn't be any truer. As an instrumentalist, I express myself at best that way; plus inspiring others as well. That is my mission and that is my goal, and I am so thankful and grateful for the talents that the Lord has blessed me with. What was the most challenging aspect for you with creating “This Moment” and why? The most challenging thing for me was coming up with song titles that fit the album. There were songs on this album that I've written many years ago, but I couldn't find the right title that fits perfectly. For example, "Laying It Down" was written in 1994, but it has always remained untitled until recently. I felt that if I had forced myself to come up with a title rather than letting it come naturally, it wouldn't fit. The song, "Brighter Nights" was almost called "Meant To Be", but at the time when I recorded it, thoughts of a positive nightlife came to mind. I'm glad it worked out that way. There is such thing as writer's block; for me, it's "title block". As a composer, I can come up with a song easily and record it, but the appropriate title wouldn't come until later. I'm glad that I use the natural approach to making music. Another challenging thing was making the music sound as authentic as possible. Any novice musician can purchase a keyboard workstation or software and make it work, but there's something about that approach that doesn't seem natural. This is why I wanted to make use of playing multiple instruments; something that I love doing. What song from “This Moment” was your personal favorite and why? If I had to pick one song that is my absolute favorite, it's "Meant To Be"; a duet that I've done with my wife, Dawn, on Electric/Synth Violin. As stated earlier, Dawn was the sole inspiration of me recording this project. In addition, this is one of the few collaborations that I have done with another instrumentalist, who happens to be my beautiful bride of 23 years. My wife got into playing violin years ago and I have encouraged her to pursue that passion into purpose and let the power of music inspire others. I introduced her to violin greats such as Jean-Luc Ponty, Karen Briggs, Regina Carter, Noel Pointer, and Damien Escobar. This marks the second time we've recorded together as husband and wife. The first time was a year ago on my Gospel Jazz album entitled "Make A Joyful Noise" on the song "Manifested Blessings". Together we're known as the D & D Connection. The title of the song was inspired by a quotation about married couples that we taught in a Marriage Ministry. "The couples that are meant to be are the ones who have been through everything that was designed to tear them apart, and came out stronger than before". We are that couple' We have been through so much and we are still here by the grace of God. Our love stands the test of time. What’s next for you D Rolark in 2020? My plans for 2020 will be prosperous. Aside from recording two more projects slated for that year (a Smooth Jazz album and my very first Christmas album), I will be doing local shows and private events to promote the album. For years, I have toured with my band, Da Fellas Band, (a band that I co-founded), and we still do many shows of cover material, I will be doing shows that features my wife and me together. Since the beginning, I have always believed in doing music outside of major labels. As an independent artist, I have the freedom to express myself without limitations. Every artist has a voice that is meant to be heard. As such, my level of creativity is only as good as the One who blessed me with it and to use it as a method to inspire others. - BD3 Lifts Us Up With New Single “Kite” + an Exclusive Interview
Today we are reminded that the classic Hip/Hop vibe is not something that left us in the early 2000s. We are lucky enough to have come across BD3 and his amazingly short-lived new single, “Kite”. This song opens up with a classic throwback synth, sparkling with a sound you haven’t heard before but somehow takes you back to the ’90s. At the 13 second mark, BD3 rips in with the powerful lyrics “you can call it what you want, I’ma tell you how it is” and at this point, you are listening. His voice carries so much weight as it ripples through the song like a hurricane that can’t be stopped. The soul and passion that comes out in BD3’s vocal performance are honestly second to none and we are here for it. The song is very short, only 1:38 and definitely leaves you hanging on for more. Luckily for us and for you, BD3 is no stranger to releasing music and he has singles, albums and EP’s to share with us on all streaming platforms. Make sure you give BD3 a follow on social media and check out his music. If you’re a fan of the ’90s influenced classic Hip Hop, we have something amazing for you! You’ll share it with a friend and they’ll thank you for it. Check out BD3's music here! Thanks for being with us today at Buzz Music! Your new song “Kite” is short and powerful. What inspired you to write this song and only keep it at 1:38? Did you feel as if that’s all you needed to get your point across? Thanks for having me, it’s a pleasure and honor. So From a creative space when I wrote KITE I always thought about a visual. It happens that way where the video comes to you at the same time or even before the actual music does. This was one of those cases. I wanted to be able to grab folks' attention in this ever so changing times where the span to listen to music is dwindling by the second. So my approach was hit em hard and hit em quick. On the same note, the lyrics in Kite were coming from a real place. A letter to an ex in where I wanted to explain my side and exactly what was going through my mind so I let the spirits do what it does and I guess that’s all the time I needed. At least for the time being.... You’re someone who likes to give back. Can you touch on your work with youth programs and literacy? Yea, well I’ve been mentoring or working with the youth especially then disenfranchised youth since I was a teenager, it was one of my first jobs. It became really important to me to be a person in those settings that not only looked like the students but were coming from those same places and could translate. Kids can’t learn nor are willing to listen if they can’t smell you, if there is something not relatable or familiar then you’re in trouble. I never had a guy like me growing up that was in my school building who just knew without me having to say anything. I feel like giving back is part of my dharma, and I need not be rich to do that. How inspiring is it being from Brooklyn? As an artist, do you find that it helps you bring that the city is surrounded by art? Being from Brooklyn is almost like a cheat code Ha! Especially when you grew up in the old Brooklyn and are now moving and living through the new one. That in itself is inspiration enough for a few albums. The city breathes inspiration from the stories of the past to the experiences of the present. The art, the food, the people, the history, the good and bad. I think Brooklyn has so many stories to tell and from so many different vantage points. I couldn’t be from anywhere else, doesn’t even compute in my head. What have been some of your biggest accomplishments so far? The biggest accomplishment for me so far is successful co-parenting Ha! They need to give awards for that, cuz it ain’t easy lol... but all jokes aside it’s hard to say. When I hear my daughter recite the words to my songs (especially KITE) it’s a different type of feeling. When you have kids you might have mentored in the past who are now 6’4 in there 20’s with their own children saying I remembered when you told me..... that’s an accomplishment in itself cause I’m still a young guy with a lot to learn. But I think truly the biggest accomplishment for me is knowing that success comes in different forms. I’ve been at it from a shorty so my visions of success has drastically changed over the years, traveling and performing overseas, being on the same bill as a legendary rap group, developing TrewCulture with FkaJazz, and Justin Swiney, writing on FKA’s album Beautifully Awkward which has now charted on Billboard for the last couple of weeks! I take all of those as different indicators that you can find success through a lot if you change the way of thinking. I’m still hungry tho, I still wanna do more, still wanna learn more, expand and create til I’m dust in the wind. There’s still much to do. When can we expect more music from you? Where can your fans and new listeners find you on social media? Well at the top of the year we are releasing the visual interpretation for L.I.T.E (Living In The End) which is now streaming on all platforms, that’s gonna be fun and a conversation starter. Not too long after in the same month of January we are releasing the Unplugged version of my latest album Time.Era.Period. It will feature some new goodies and is completely played by my band and collective TrewCulture. KITE is available now for streaming/download and purchase anywhere you get your music. The Video is out now as well!! Please support that. Tryna moonlight as a director lol. And I got some more goodies that will give context to me as a whole human being an artist coming down the pipeline in the near future, with much more music coming from out of my camp. You can catch up with everything I’m doing at WhoisBD3.com. Please make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel BD3Music, I will be dropping a lot of visuals in the near future so make sure you stay tuned and hit the notification button! And check out BD3 wherever you stream! Don’t forget to check out Supreme Love by myself FKAJAZZ and Marcus Machado, it’s a vibe! And if you are in NYC in April myself and TrewCulture will be playing our first headlining show at the Blue Note so stay tuned. instagram.com/whoisbd3 twitter.com/whoisbd3 #BuzzMusic
- Chiller Gang Collaboratively Killed The Rap Game in 2019!
Chiller Gang is a Hip/Hop music group that consists of 6 Members: Ricky T, MC Jeaze, IamL.E.O., Chiller Rob, Chiller Gee & Lil Young $tunna L. Chiller Gang has made great progress since their last feature with us over here at BuzzMusic! The group had recently released a self-titled solo Album "Robichino" by Chiller Rob AKA Robichino, and another solo album "Eyes Low" by member Ricky T. Both albums are available on all platforms. Chiller Gang consistently creates tracks that maintain that easygoing flow and their album releases can easily showcase that. Chiller Gang had also talked about releasing a group album by the name of "Chiller Season 2" since the first "Chiller Season" was released back in 2016. Well, let’s keep it short and simple! Chiller Gang delivered what was promised to us as their second group album “Chiller Season 2”, which is thankfully out on all platforms, since November 8th of this year. The album has a variety of songs, from the party & hyphy songs, keeping their bay area roots alive to songs that are soulful to keep it real for the fans. Chiller Gang keeps the ball rolling without any plans on stopping! They’ve already released a music video for their first song “Crystals On My Chain” and they have plans on releasing 4 more videos. Chiller Gang had a phenomenal 2019 and 2020 is bound to be even greater for them. We're genuinely hyped for what the group will release next. Listen to the stylings of Chiller Gang here! Welcome back to BuzzMusic Chiller Gang! Knowing you all have different individual styles and sounds, how do you manage to blend this together to create one unit? The members of Chiller Gang have known each other for a long time, first, we are family then we are music business partners/teammates. Therefore when we started this music group we already had a bond, unlike any other group. The different flows and styles just come naturally, we can all rap to the same kind of beats so our different styles just naturally complement each other flows and sounds. We all like to try new things so once we hear someone's verse on a song we just try and compliment their style with our own sound. It's something that we just organically have. Talk to us about the album “Robichino”! What were the main theme behind this project and most of the songs? The album Robichino was more of a concept project, it's broken down to show the diverse styles of rap and have the alter ego feeling as the flows and lyrics match the intensity. What about “Eyes Low”? What kind of vibe and aesthetic were you aiming for with this project? For the Eyes Low project, I was pushing to show people the other side of my music that wasn't shown before. In a way, I was showing the fans the Chiller Gang flow, on some unfiltered, bottom of the gutta just raw type of rap. Simply portraying how the chillers rock, letting them know we can spit some ill shit too, and not just rap to rap. What’s an obstacle you may face making a collaborative album as opposed to individuals? In what ways do you overcome the challenge? When we make collaborative albums we don't face many problems except who is gonna be in what song and making sure everyone is free at the same time so we can all go and record our songs. Besides that, there isn't much we an obstacle because even when we do individual albums we always feature each other so therefore we already know how to work with each other and how to complement each other sounds. The way we overcome the challenges we do have is by listing who gets what verse and really just splitting verses as equally as we can, and by making timed schedules like a week or two ahead so we can all make free time to record our verses, and if we can't all be there at once then we will go to the studio as much as we have too until we all get our verses done. Because I mean you gotta do what you gotta do by any mean necessary to get where you wanna be, am I right? We anticipated the release of “Chiller Season 2” and it’s here! What about this album do you feel elevates your sound from your previous releases? First, off we are very excited to show you guys Chiller Season 2 this is a project we all worked on very hard and put ours all into, what elevates this project from our previous ones is that we had more resources. We had a really dope engineer named Jishu-Milo that worked on the mix and mastering that we didn't work within the past. He is really good at what he does there is no doubt about that. You can hear it in the album how the mix and mastering is a lot better than our previous projects, as well as our lyrical content and beat selection. We really went for something that was diverse and we decided to take the versatile route. We also paired up with other people that we haven't really made music with. For example, our song "Juice" has Chiller Rob, MC Jeaze and Jishu-Milo which hasn't been done before. So we just paired up with people that we normally don't collab with. Chiller Season 2 has all kinds of styles, flows, beats and sounds in general. We all used flows we normally don't use, we experimented with new things and made it our own. What’s next for the Chiller Gang? Hmm, what's next for Chiller Gang? Well, currently we have merch out and we are working really hard on releasing the official Chiller Gang Website so people around the world can order our Merchandise and have easier access to all of our music and get a closer experience with the Chillers. Ricky T & Chiller Gee are also currently working on a collab album that will be released mid to late January. MC Jeaze is currently working on his Solo Album "Mind Body & Soul" That is anticipated to be released early February with a lot of dope features. Chiller Rob is working on Robichino 2 which also has a lot of dope features and IamL.E.O is working on a solo album that is TBA, Ricky T, and MC Jeaze are also working on a small EP coming out real soon! and MORE MERCH! and a lot of music videos for Chiller Season 2 and one last thing. Chiller Gang Will start posting Chiller Vlogs on youtube about the chiller life and the process of working on our projects and just day to day life as the chillers in general. We have our first Chiller Vlog out now on youtube called Chiller Vlog: Cyphy show. And it's about our most recent show. So be on the look out for that because the Chillers are always cooking something up. Just follow us on our Group IG @chillergram and you can see all of our stuff. instagram.com/chillergram/ Twitter.com/ChillerGang #BuzzMusic
- Bezy Shows Us Why He’s Earning His Respect in the Music World!
Bezy is someone to be on the lookout for, truly. He released his single “Respect”, a hard-hitting song that will inevitably strike you with an eccentric intensity. Bezy has many aspects of professionalism in his delivery, but his pen game was confidently driven with great punchlines and incredibly well-thought bars that caught demanded our attention. The arrangement of “Respect” was nicely coordinated, and it provided an excellent hook that personally made the song elevate in its entirety for us. When we listen to Bezy, we start thinking that his sound genuinely caters to the environment present in Hip/Hop culture today. Current lovers of the category can easily translate and resonate with the energy Bezy is emulating. Bezy's presence through his music is felt enormously. He crafts his sound so that listeners can easily digest it in prosperous ways. The lyrical content and powerful flow will gain respect and traction from the old-school lovers of Rap, while those contemporary elements capture the younger listener's attention. It was clear to us from the beginning that Bezy works methodically and strategically with his sound. As a seasoned rap artist, Bezy is ready to go on a trail-blazing run, most likely resulting in a legacy that many will remember. Bezy has the cadence, the pen skills, and the confidence to become a highly-respectable rapper in the game, and with that, we’re excited to see what else he has in store for the music world. Listen to the unique stylings of Bezy here! Welcome to BuzzMusic Bezy! Congratulations on the anticipated release of "Respect". Where do you find that most of your inspiration stem from? I draw my inspiration from my personal experiences. Places I’ve been, people I’ve meet and things I’d want to do in the future. My creative process is about picking a feeling I’ve had or the situation I’ve been in and elaborating on it. You can never run out of things you say or speak about when you reflect on the day today. Let’s talk about your music! We really appreciated the lyrical content in “Respect". What was the biggest challenge you had to face when making the track? Tell us more about the curation process. For me it was really about capturing the feeling I’ve always steaming back to when I was in high school. That feeling of almost being unnoticed. Whenever there was a project and people had to pick partners or when I wanted to play a sport I’d always had gotten picked last or left out. But fast forward to today I’m the one doing the picking, I’m the one who people want to be around because I always give off a positive vibe, I’m the “Cool kid” now. And from now being on both sides of the fence it almost feels fake to me. So Respect is more of a personal record stating the fact that even though certain people would have never thought I’d be able to do half of the things I set out to do, I did it anyway. What was your personal favorite element to “Respect” as an artist and why? In the song I say “they’re saying I’m gifted, but I wasn’t born with this...” which is something I hold dear to me. The fact that I had and still have to work to get everything I want in life. The feeling of having a chip on your shoulder. To be who I am I had to work on myself. I have to develop confidence, work on my body, work on my voice, I had to learn how to careless of what others thought of me and focus on what I wanted to do. When people see me now we talk and I tell them about who I was they don’t really believe me because I’m completely a new person In every aspect except the drive of hunger and determination to get what I want, I still am that and I’m focused on music. What’s next for you in 2020 Bezy? In 2020 I’m planning on releasing a project, a music video, work on doing some collaborations. Really just creating some great content and surprising a lot of people with what I have to offer as an artist. instagram.com/iambezy/ #BuzzMusic
- Marissa Barbalato Displays Her Soft and Honest Soundings Throughout "Somewhere in the Middle"
Marissa Barbalato overwhelms us. Her vocal styling is extremely rejuvenating and calming, simultaneously. Already performing at a variety of venues, including The Troubadour and The Hotel Cafe, Marissa has established her sound and shares her recent cultivations in her recent single release "Somewhere in the Middle". Here, we sense that complex, yet intricate sounding that characterizes Marissa in the Indie/Pop scene. We want to talk more on Marissa's latest release, "Somewhere in the Middle". The song contains a complexity of indie and pop elements. Not the typical indie/pop elements one would initially think, essentially due to the fact we feel Marissa Barbalato and her sound is more than typical. It's unique to her, and her sounding offers a refreshing perspective on the Indie/Pop category. "Somewhere in the Middle" takes on that simplistic and airy approach---the kind of approach that brings on a secure connection between artist and listener. Marissa offers an expressive vocal delivery that showcases those indie/pop elements in a true and sophisticated blend. Even further, we noticed that she sways into other genres, creating that multi-categorical dynamic. We feel comfortable saying Marissa Barbalato's voice intrigues us, and that her music has caught our complete attention. We're keeping ourselves updated with upcoming releases on Marissa Barbalato, because truthfully? We know she's an artist that will blow up. For now, we're content listening to the intricate stylings that are Marissa Barbalato. Listen to "Somewhere in the Middle" here. Hey Marissa Barbalato! Congrats on releasing "Somewhere in the Middle"! How does it feel now that the track is recorded and released?! Relieved! Genuinely happy! Scary! This record is more indie/pop than I am used to. I am so grateful I have a team around me that supports experimenting with different sounds, genres, and overall vibes. We are all so excited to share it with the world. We really hope you can dance, feel, and relate your way through it. "Somewhere in the Middle" offered a very delicate sounding that maintained itself through the entire track. How do you establish these soundings that are so pivotal to your overall sound? Bobby Salehnejad and Ernest Green were the amazing talents behind the production. While recording the vocals, I specifically did A LOT of ad-libs that were later produced into different sounds used. We LOVED using the vocals as instruments. Along with the vocals, they really captured our vision with production using modern, real and rare sounds. You've been performing at a ton of different locations lately! How has the performing scene been for you so far? My favorite show venues so far include The Troubadour and Hotel Cafe! The talent in the LA music scene is unbelievable and extremely competitive. You really have to be confident in yourself and your music to not fall apart. The scene has been generous and difficult at the same time. Getting your hand in certain venues can be really challenging, I am so lucky to have people who have given me a shot and who have really believed in us. There was a point where I was gigging 4-5 times a week, which really helped me grow as a performer and artist. I am so grateful for those opportunities. Performing my music means I have to believe in it, there's really no way around that. That is my favorite part. At the end of the day, music is all that matters and I just want to be my most authentic and real self. Let's talk about this upcoming EP in April 2020. We're excited to see the various elements you can bring with your sound across an entire album. Is there going to be a theme to the album, or is it more of a collection of contrasting elements? Thank you we are so excited as well! There will be a theme throughout but some of it is VERY experimental and unconventional. I really just wanted to follow my heart and not think about "what is selling " and what everyone else "wants to hear". We do this because we love to create, the more out of the box the better. The songs are inspired by nature, sacrifice, love and an overall eclectic take on creation. Thanks for taking the time to speak with us about your music! We appreciate knowing more about your story as an artist. Are you continuing to work on the album for the months to come? Thank you! Yes, we are hard at work on some finishing touches on the record and planning the 2020 year! I will be focusing on finishing the EP and doing a few shows throughout. My next show is February 8th at Hotel Cafe. facebook.com/marisbarbalato/ instagram.com/marisbarbalato/ #BuzzMusic

Thanks for joining us here at BuzzMusic to talk about your recent work throughout 2019. How do you feel that 2019 has treated you and your artistic career? The entire first 6 months of 2019 were quite literally sucked up; vanished. I was so swamped with finishing my new music, redoing tracks, perfecting them, that time became an irrelevant concept after a certain point. Days began at 7 am and ended at 4 am, January became March in over a week, you get it. Many tears were shed over the stress. But I’m so thankful for every chance I get to release new music because I gain so much knowledge and experience with each song. After the release of Selfish Topics, I rebranded, changed my colors, went on tour, and made some amazing friends I’ll have for a lifetime. While 2019 was only half as long as other years for me, I still loved every bit of it. We watched "Daisy", and were completely blown away by how easily your passion and intensity was translated through the video. Your vocals are insane! How did you feel performing the track on BalconyTV?! What was the experience like? Thank you so much! You can’t see me right now but I’m definitely blushing. That day was so wickedly exciting from start to finish. Being on a rooftop with a full band definitely elevated the high of performing to a new level. I’m so grateful for every person involved in making that video possible because it’s one of my favorites for life. I’m definitely going to invest more effort into live session work like that. (I’m lookin’ at you Audiotree and Sofar, hit me back!) Your album "Selfish Topics" debuted this year! How has the aftermath of the album been since its release? My streams and followers basically doubled. I’m still independent, so having growth purely based on my art is really comforting to me. As someone who’s in constant competition with myself, it’s a huge relief to put something out into the world and go “oh! people don’t think I’m awful, phew”. But I think that’s what makes me work as hard as I do, my motivation sprouts from my pursuit of perfection. Perfection is essentially unachievable, so that way I’ll never relax or become lazy. A foolproof system, as chaotic as it is. Let's talk about your performances. Can you attempt to describe the connection you feel with your listeners at a live show? Do you feel your personality gets easily showcased to the crowd? My personality is completely discarded during live shows. To the point where when I watch back videos, at times I think “WHO THE F*** IS THAT”. I think the only way I can perform without crippling stage fright is to become a wildly arrogant freak. I turn the anxiety into adrenaline. Surprisingly, it works, and they always like it. People go to a show to be screamed at. To be told to get on the ground, demanded to jump, cursed at. If I didn’t become this person I wouldn’t know how to make witty jokes or brush off voice cracks and mistakes. As for my connection with the crowd, I love feeding off their energy. If they’re sparse, awkward, or timid, I run throughout everyone and dance around the floor just to loosen them up. If they’re stretching as far as the eye can see and practically pushing each other over the barricade, I’m frozen still, staring at each person just to build suspense. I’m determined to put on a good show no matter what instance I’m facing. 200 live concerts over 2 years! Impressive. Do you handle the constant performing well? Has your music career ever taken a toll on the way you create? I handle it fantastically I’d say. I’m an extremely energetic person, so I need an outlet to drain it all. (It’s so difficult for me to feel tired; I don’t even drink coffee.) I’ve been on a bit of a concert hiatus for the past two months while prepping for some new projects, and it’s killing me. I love when I do a run of shows and have bruises all over my legs, or sores on my feet. I love life slowing down and feeling like 1 year has been compacted into 3 weeks. I love being busy. But as for the creativity aspect, it is true that I tend to slow down on my writing and original ideas when I’m so slammed. That’s okay though, it’s why I take the time like I have these past few weeks in order to prepare for the next step. What a treat to have you here and to talk about your life within the past year! Are you hoping to change anything within your artistry for 2020, or planning to remain consistent with how you were in 2019?! And what a treat to be featured in Buzz Music! So glad you guys are welcoming me back. I’m planning for a major change this year. The songs I’ve been working on lately are so... jazzy. 80’s rock combined with jazz. The older I get the more mature my music becomes, it’s like it ages alongside me. I don’t know when I’m going to release them, but it’s for sure that when I do it will be a huge upgrade. For now, I’m going to focus on some videos and attention on the music that’s already out. I crave making it in this world, so I’m dedicating myself to that. Each year will be a step above the last. Thanks again, you guys. facebook.com/natalieclaromusic instagram.com/natalieclaro twitter.com/natalieclaro #BuzzMusic
- Ryan Nealon Hits Home With an Emotion-Packed Song “Until The World Ends”
Ryan Nealon has been stirring up the industry lately with over 200,000 streams and over 10,000 followers on social media. Today, we are reminded of his great potential in artistry with his tremendous and emotionally heavy record, “Until The World Ends”. The song begins with a moody intro that sets a melancholic tone. This tone is almost immediately pierced with the vocal outflow from Ryan. He jumps in with the lyrics “I thought I could carry your heartache” and at this line, we knew we got ourselves strapped in for a sonic and emotional ride. Vocally, his falsetto work is out of this world and his lyric sheet is similar to intricate poetry. After the last major chorus of the song, he explodes with beautiful and light soundings that soak into your very being. Ryan Nealon is definitely a great songwriter, hands down, but more importantly, he can translate it with emotion and passion to listeners. Ryan Nealon has an extensive catalog of amazing music on all major streaming platforms. Keep a lookout for more by him and listen to “Until The World Ends” here. Thanks for being here today with us at Buzz Music, Ryan! Your new song “Until The World Ends” is a ride emotionally. What is the full story here? Is this about a love interest? "Till The World Ends" is a haunting ballad about loving someone who will never love you the same. This song is inspired by a person I fell for in the past, and although we knew that nothing would ever evolve between us, the situation always felt unfinished, but only for me. I wanted to write a song from the perspective of someone who loves so hard even when they know that nothing will come from it, and I think I did just that." Production-wise, did you have any goals that you wanted to hit with “Until The World Ends” and did you accomplish those? For this song, in particular, I really wanted it to be more experimental than my other songs especially when it came to the vocal production. I took a lot of inspiration from Bon Iver and Imogen Heap, and I wanted to really make something powerful and real. Ultimately, I think the goal was achieved and when your producer is as good as mine I almost feel like I'm cheating haha--shameless plug for Zack Djurich who's been producing my music this year. Your falsetto work is unworldly. At what age did you start singing and have you had professional training? Thank you so much! Funny enough I think that my falsetto/my mid-range is my weakness, but I've been working on it for years so I appreciate it. Also, I started singing when I was 5, but I didn't start to really pursue music until 18, which is around the same time when I got professional training at UCLA. What have been some of your greatest accomplishments as an artist and where do you hope your music takes you? I mean this year alone I've been able to put out 4 songs that I absolutely love. My goal at the top of the year was to get SOMETHING out, but I did not expect the support I've been getting. I've gotten over 250k streams this year being completely independent, and those were numbers I had dreamt of in the past. My goal for the future is to keep grinding and to keep releasing music that I love and believe in. Also, would love to be able to quit my day job, so let's hope this music thing starts working out for me!!! Haha. Lastly, what do you have planned next with your music career? Next year, I want to put out a record. I also would love to work on booking a tour--I already have a few dates down, but I have to fill in the blanks now. Anyways, it's going to be fun, and I can't wait to see where I'm at a year from now. facebook.com/ryanealon instagram.com/ryanealon twitter.com/ryanealon #BuzzMusic
- Conscious Tone's 2019 Showcased Via Album "Thoughts"!
An artist that deserves some recognition for his work over 2019 is Conscious Tone. Based in Denver, CO, Conscious Tone is an expressive artist, developing unique hip/hop soundings that make for such a smooth delivery. He's upfront with listeners by sharing personal life elements, both good and bad. Conscious Tone has never appeared as if he was afraid to be so exposed and vulnerable to listeners, mainly because his flow is so natural-feeling. Conscious Tone released an album earlier this year titled "Thoughts". The album ironically walks through the most intimate thoughts of Conscious Tone, and it made us look at him in a different life, both artistically and personally. The first track on the album, "Lately", incorporates an ethereal-like production into an energetic Hip/Hop atmosphere. The song follows the conflictions of Conscious Tone, and his remedy to resolve such hostility. "You and Me" follow similar suit, but "Out of My Mind" adds in more of a unique sounding specific to Conscious Tone. The last track on the album, "On My Way", ends the album off with a positive message from Conscious Tone's end. "Thoughts" is the pinnacle of Conscious Tone's 2019, and we believe the album showcases his artistic abilities extremely well. Conscious Tone has the incredible potential within the Alternative/Hip-Hop music scene, and so we're anticipating what he will accomplish next artistically! Listen to Conscious Tone's album "Thoughts" here. Hello, Conscious Tone! It's great to have the chance to talk about your recent music over 2019! Your album "Thoughts" was quite expressive, as you shared a lot about your personal life with your listeners. How did you feel once this album officially released?! Honestly, I felt really great about getting this project out. I’ve covered some serious ground this year getting my message and my voice where I’d like it to be and I feel “Thoughts” really showcased that. I wanted to shed light on things I know many of us face mentally and emotionally on a daily basis, and this project helped me do so. It always feels good to get your content out but this one definitely holds close to me. I think I turned a page and really found an area of creating that I feel truly at home with, so I was happy about getting this project out to the world. How did your perspective on music and yourself overall change during the writing and recording process of "Thoughts"? I think that with every project I create there is a learning curve involved and adjustments are made. I ask questions like where do I want these tracks to go? How am I using my voice productively? But when it comes down to it, I always try making music that gets to me emotionally whether that be highs or lows. I knew what I thought I wanted going into this project, yet that always seems to change. This can make things a bit of a challenge so I really have to be patient with myself and trust the process. With “Thoughts” I think I’ve gained a valuable perspective on music as a whole and where mine is headed and I feel I’ve grown more as an artist in recent months than ever before. It’s a bit scary but thrilling at the same time, and it’s allowed me to focus more on the creation and directing myself towards writing that really shares my message. A lot of my music changes on the fly so things are constantly moving one way or another. What was the biggest challenge you've faced throughout 2019 that has shaped you both artistically and personally? I feel the biggest challenge I faced throughout 2019 was roadblocks in general. The music industry can be pretty cutthroat and I’ve experienced it first hand over the years. I was hit hard with life this year in a strange way, and it truly lit a fire inside me. It’s not about changing so much as learning and making the best decisions for yourself as an artist to reach that next goal. Mentally this has been an extremely challenging 12 months and musically it’s been a lot of highs and lows, but I’ve always been one to roll with the punches and look for a positive outcome. I think this year really taught me a lot about myself as an artist and how much I really want it. It’s all about finding a balance and shaping things where you see fit. With that said I feel I’ve grown a lot personally and opened my eyes a bit more, which has translated into music in a great way! We hear that you're currently working on another EP series! Tell us more about how the process of that is going, and you feel about collaborating with other artists?! Yes, I am! “Thoughts” is number 2 of 4 and I’m really excited to drop the last two projects. The idea of this series was to create a personal vibe within each one. So rather than me dropping a full 16 song album, I felt that 4 smaller EP’s would help me spread my message and the things I’ve been going through more organically. Each has a feel of its own so it’s allowed me to try some new things and really hone in on where I’d like to go musically. My hope is to always share something genuinely meaningful and relatable with my listeners. Currently, I’m at a point in my career where collaborating with other artists is very high up on my list. I’ve got a few I’m in contact with that I’m really excited about working with. One, in particular, I’m looking forward to working with is Cali based songwriter ill Nicky, I’ve been a big fan of his music and I really think we can make something great together. Collaboration can be key to progression in this business so I’m really excited to branch out and work with some new artists in the near future. Thanks for taking the time to speak with us here at BuzzMusic! How do you see your artistic journey growing in 2020? Well, I feel 2020 has some great plans for me musically. I’m taking some big steps towards important goals that I feel I’m much better prepared for than I was before. I’ve spent the last year really dialing in on my style, voice and just overall presence within music and I’m right where I want to be. So, 2020 will hold some new opportunities for me to grow as an artist and I’m really looking forward to that. I’ll be pushing out a lot more content, lots of shows, organizing a small tour and securing some solid placements along the way. I’m thankful for opportunities such as this one with BuzzMusic and I’m looking to build on that next year. It’s all love with me and I’m just excited to continue this journey through music. - A Look at Expressive Alternative/Indie Duo Belenn's 2019!
Music group Belenn has released a variety of tracks throughout 2019 that gained serious attention among their listening base. And the traction they're receiving makes sense because one of their 2019 releases "Evanesce" is almost explosive right from the start. It has that heavy and heavenlyf feeling, which allows the sound to catch almost an atmospheric sounding. The vocal delivery is dramatic and pure, which pushes that ethereal ambiance even further. Once we get committed to the record, we feel the surplus of emotions that pour over us and our aura. "Evanesce" is definitely the type of reflective song that had us feeling overwhelmed in such a positive way. Other tracks released by Belenn consist of "Lover" and "Just Us", which offer different attributes of Belenn's artistic blendings. "Lover" is a track that focuses heavily on instrumentals, and the track focuses on more of a rustic execution. The vocals that are lightly incorporated into the track pierce through the melody, and you can feel them sit heavily in your heart. Their music conveys their imaginative side with their soft persona. We've heard that Belenn is thinking of doing some live shows in the near future, and we're really anticipating that performance. Once you give a listen to Belenn, you'll be able to imagine the intimacy their shows could hold. For now, we're soaking up their sound via our favorite platforms, and hoping to hear more from Belenn soon! Listen to the soundings of Belenn here. Welcome back to BuzzMusic, Belenn! Thanks for taking the time to walk us through your 2019. How do you feel looking back on what you accomplished artistically throughout 2019?! Joshua: It’s great being back! I feel 2019 was a good start for us right before the new decade starts. We have a lot of new ideas & plans, but we are taking our time with each individual project to make sure we get it just right. I’m pretty proud of what we’ve done in 2019, starting with Evanesce & finishing off with a Music Video. I feel we’ve given a feel of what kind of quality & style you can expect from Belenn. Denise: Hello! Thanks for having us again. Looking back on our year in retrospect, I feel a sense of astonishment — seeing how much my partner and I have accomplished. Having a mere idea being put into execution, releasing the said idea for others to enjoy is such a profound feeling. We’ve released three singles this year and we’re releasing our first video production soon, I feel it’s been a great year for accomplishments. I am truly ecstatic and I cannot wait to share more of our music with the world. We know you've said you're thinking about releasing an EP in the near future. Have you started an EP, or is it still in the progressive thought stage? Joshua: The idea of the EP grows as we grow musically. We had something set when we started, but now it has become something else and I’m still waiting to see what it will eventually become. We want the EP to be something people won’t expect & for every song in it to be unique in its own way. For all we know, it might just end up being a full album. Denise: The more songs we release, the closer we get to understanding our musicality and we’re still in that stage of the process. A decision is still yet to be made so we can’t quite promise anything. An earlier release of yours, Lover" incorporated many fine and articulate soundings. They truly shaped the eclecticism the song held. How do you find the vision to combine rhythms and tones like these with your vocals? Joshua: Lover was an idea we had to make a song with no previous ideas, melodies, lyrics, or chords in mind. It was more of a moment we recorded to see what we were really capable of doing at the moment. After releasing a really thought out & produced a song like Evanesce, we really wanted to go back to basics & see what we could do with just a guitar and our voices. Denise: Lover was an improvised single. It was a one-take recording that was left unedited and was deliberately released to the public that way. Personally, I feel a profound connection with, Lover because I feel it reflects our relationship. Like us, the song is filled with imperfections but conveys such beauty. I can’t say I had a set vision for the song, what I sang is what I felt in the moment. We weren’t expecting to release an unedited recording but I insisted on doing so because I wanted our listeners to hear our imperfections. Talk to us about your music video for "Just Us"! Did you come up with the vision for the video, or did you accept help from other parties in order to mediate the flow of the production? Joshua: We came up with the idea of the music video for Just Us by coming up with a storyboard based on what we thought the story of the song was. We didn’t really draw any ideas from other music video or media because we already had an idea about how we wanted the music video to be. Feeling we had a cool idea for this song was the reason we decided to make a music video after all & sought out help from our friend Marlex Cancinos to help us film. Denise: We based our music video on what the song is about, essentially. Rooted from that, we created a storyboard and tried to work around the storyline that we had already conducted (from the song). Each of our songs tells a different story, so we were able to use, Lover’s already created story for leverage. We didn’t necessarily require outside help for ideas, simply because had already envisioned a particular storyline for our music video. Although we did have help filming, our cinematographer (and director) Marlex Cancinos played a huge role in completing the final product, so a big thanks to Marlex. How do you find the way you curated music in the past compares to how you created music this year, and specifically in the past few months? Joshua: Our process has become more efficient ever since we started working together. We are able to come up with new ideas at even the most random times & we record it quick to later work on it to make it into a complete song. Before I would make the music and then we would come together to try to come up with lyrics. Now we’re both coming up with music and lyrics all at the same time & it has given us many new opportunities to be more creative. Denise: The way we create music has always been a fun process, but we would definitely have days where we’d sit on ideas and feel blocked. In recent months our work ethic has certainly become more interesting. Joshua will be soloing on his guitar and I’d be sitting there listening and he’ll play something operatic and I’ll yell for the recorder. Then I’ll begin to hum melodies as he continues to play, and we’d note down whatever we thought sounded best. Those are by far my most favorite creative moments. What do you hope to get out of yourself artistically and personally in 2020? Are there specific goals you've set for yourself for next year, or are you more of that go with the flow type of artists? Joshua: I hope that we can establish Belenn as a more recognized artist group & be able to put out good music more frequently. Right now, we’re trying to get in the consistency of putting out at least one new form of media per month. As goals go, we want to have at least 10 songs put out by the Summer of 2020 so we can eventually start performing live shows. But we also allow creative freedom to happen with our music, so if we end up going above that, that’s even better. Thank you again for having us back! Denise: I — of course share the same aspirations for Belenn, I wish to see Belenn more largely recognized and for our musicality to continue to improve implicitly. As an artist, I would like to explore my vocals and enhance my musicianship. A personal goal would be to grow more comfortable with the idea of being in the public eye. This year we hope to release more singles and playing live shows is something we are hoping to do. We have our own set goals, but we are also willing to follow whatever paths are already being paved. We’re doing what we feel is right. Thank you so much for having us again! instagram.com/belennofficial #BuzzMusic
