  • Jr. Rhodes Is Consistently Delivering Hits!

If it’s one thing we can admire about this newcomer from Alberta is that his consistency is almost unmatched! Who are we referring to? JR. Rhodes, an artist, and producer who emerged in the scene with his hit single “Shoot!” which has been released in May of this year. “Shoot!” impressed us with its banging bass that struck you like an intense punch. The hook became highly catchy and showcased Jr. Rhodes’s ability to deliver us quick-witted lyricism. The melodies in this record were infectious and highly contagious, sticking to its listener like glue. After listening to this single, It was easy to conclude that Jr. Rhodes is a promising artist who has a lot in store for him in the future. He knows how to get the crowd moving and his music can easily resonate with a vast audience due to how digestible it is. Since “Shoot!”, Jr Rhodes has released several singles in anticipation for his debut project releasing December 6th, entitled “Innermission”. You do not want to miss the blow up before it occurs because This Canadian artist is slowly growing his way into the already blooming Canadian music scene and is most definitely someone to keep an eye on if you’re a huge hip-hop fan. Listen to Jr. Rhodes music here! Who would you consider some of your influences for your trendy style? I’d say J.I.D, Logic, Kendrick Lamar. These people showed me how fun and diverse you can be as an artist – J. Cole too. The ability to create a story with lyrics or create moods with cadence and pronunciation is so cool, it gives you complete freedom of expression, which as an artist is important because you want to be yourself in your songs. Another artist good at this is Drake of course. He can express the same lyrics in multiple ways, which is powerful because you can be so versatile that way. I think my style is a blend of these artists, but in a way that I’m not biting anyone’s sound, just paying tribute to it in the way I write and express myself. Let’s talk about your first release, “Shoot!”. The amount of professionalism in this song for it to be your first was amazing! Did you stumble upon any challenges during the creative process of it? There were a bunch of challenges for sure. I took a step back from releasing music publicly for over a year and a half, just so I could learn about the industry and the business side of it. So, prior to Shoot! dropping, we probably made 40 to 50 songs which may not even ever get released. It was important that everything was planned out. I like being 3 steps ahead, even if the world doesn’t know it yet. So, with that, the preparation for Shoot!’s release came off the realization that I had done what I told myself I needed to do a year ago. I had to make sure all the mixing and deliveries were properly done before we could release, especially because I had been keeping my fans waiting for so long. Although it wasn’t a traditional “Jr. Rhodes song”, I think it was a good bounce-back song because it could appeal to the widest audience, which was, in fact, truly based on Spotify’s decision to playlist the song for a few months. What was the entire theme behind the song “Shoot!” that you were hoping to translate to the listeners? Shoot! was meant to have an underdog vibe to it. “Ya we gon’ shoot!” is like saying, I’m going to take every shot I can because this is all I got. Notably, the second verse explains the theme behind it well. “The way that we living I’m feeling that nothing will ever be new Got something to say to the people that never believed it was true Now I be running the crew Taking it back to the booth Back to the room Where we always dreamed about money and talked about things we would do.” This bar hits home to me because it’s like, yo - this is really the start of what we’ve been working towards for so long. It’s relieving and motivating, and I felt that the whole verse was what was exactly what was going on in our lives at the time. I knew I would have to make it something people could bump to, being as I haven’t dropped music in so long. I had to pair meaningful lyrics with something that seems ignorant. Even in the chorus, when I say “All in Chanel, doing so well, how could I lose?”, that’s not me literally boasting about myself… That’s me boasting about where I’m going to be. No one will get in the way of what we have planned, it's – beyond music. Let’s talk about this upcoming debut project you’re planning on releasing! Can you hint to us what we can expect from “Innermission”? Innermission – yea it’s something I’m extremely proud of. I had the opportunity to make 4 songs completely specific to this project, which was what I always wanted, I always wanted to make a concept project, although this isn’t a big album or anything, it still ties in the message I wanted to promote with the concept of space travel and space vibes. Everything down to the cover art had to be perfect. I think made 3 separate cover arts for this project, which were all so dope, but it came down to choosing what fits the project best. This past summer actually, I was in Toronto at this studio and prior to me even going, we finished the song “Innermission” which at the time we thought would just be a single, and when I got there I face timed DG right away and was like “yo - this is exactly what I’ve been looking for”. The entire vibe I was on for the past few months have been geared around outer space, and when I saw this old James Bond poster at the studio, I knew I had to incorporate it into the project. What are you looking forward to in the new year Jr. Rhodes? I’m looking forward to celebrating and having fun with my team, continuing to make music and just grow. This is just the start of the journey I’ve been planning for 4 years now, so I’m excited, it’s going to be a big year for me. My brothers are putting out some serious projects as well next year, so it’s only the start. Every empire needs a proper foundation, and that’s what we’re doing. It’s about consistency and quality. I have the next 2 projects already finished, which is crazy because like I said, I need to stay 3 steps ahead. You’ll get a lot of content this year, a lot of growth for sure. instagram.com/jrrhodesmusic twitter.com/jrrhodesmusic soundcloud.com/jrrhodesmusic #BuzzMusic

  • Fan Favorite: ShyBoy Is on a Roll of Releases This Year!

Residing in Los Angeles, ShyBoy’s upbeat club music focuses on empowering the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. ShyBoy is a vocalist, songwriter, producer, and DJ whose music has been featured in America’s Next Top Model, Sex And The City, and many more. ShyBoy has performed throughout North America and in Europe, sharing the stage with artists such as Amanda Palmer, Meiko, and Flo Rida. An array of writers and artists have collaborated with ShyBoy, including Emmy Award-winning drag superstar RuPaul, hip-hop legend SlimKid3 (The Pharcyde), pop vocalist Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls) and more! He also is the main resident at Bootie LA (the longest-running mashup dance party in Los Angeles) and the co-creator of MaDonna Summer, a critically acclaimed tribute event celebrating the music of Madonna and Donna Summer. As a multi-talented artist, it’s no surprise that ShyBooy has garnered so much success this year. He began with the release of his hot, seductive single “Backroom”, with a sexy music video to match. This was quickly followed up with the “Backroom” remixes to really hype up the dance floor vibe. During this time ShyBoy released a gorgeously pure rendition of “In The Air Tonight” and more recently released his new single “U Can Get It”. It’s incredibly admirable that an artist is able to write and create so consistently. That being said, ShyBoy has more new music on the way! “Lottery” is a slice of bouncy, alt-synth pop that makes a social commentary questioning the importance of money's influence on happiness. Check it out below! Listen to “ShyBoy’s music here. Welcome back ShyBoy! We’re still bumping “U Can Get It” on repeat! What would you say was the most enjoyable part of creating this track? It's always a blast to work with my collaborators, Jeff Hoeppner and Mark Nubar. We are all huge music geeks and have a great time bouncing around ideas and coming up with new ways of constructing pop songs. When we wrote and recorded “U Can Get It,” I’d just binge-watched season two of Mike Judge’s hilarious animated series, Tales From The Tour Bus. I was very inspired by the stories of Morris Day and Rick James and some of their interactions with my favorite artist, Prince. It was really fun to channel that vibe into the song. In your opinion, which remix of “Backroom” is the most lively? I love all the mixes, but the extended one is my favorite because it contains a fun extra verse and a keyboard solo. It’s an ode to the maxi-singles that artists frequently released in the 80s. We love your ‪Phil Collins‬ cover song! You made it completely your own. Why did you choose to cover “In The Air Tonight”? Is this song close to your heart? I've always loved that song, ‪Phil Collins‬' vocals and production are gorgeous. I actually recorded the cover during the sessions for my first solo album, Water on Mars, but we went with a different cover on that release, ‪Nik Kershaw‬'s "Wouldn't It Be Good." Through your recording and production process, how were you able to make it seem like there were two vocalists on “Backroom”? We were actually inspired by Prince’s alter egos: the high-pitched "Camille” and the low-pitched "Bob George.” We thought it would be fun to create two of my own, "ShyGirl" and "ShyMan," lol. Jeff had the idea to capture some of the vocals on "Backroom" using a vary-speed technique where we recorded at different tempos and then sped up/slowed down the tracks, changing the timbre of my voice. So many people ask who the other lead singers are. They’re all me! What's the most integral element to your music that you find is always integrated into every track you create? The lyrics and melody are of primary importance. I love a hot track, but you need to have the right topline that can connect to the listener. Pop songs have to be universal and personal at the same time. It's a fine balance. Thank you for catching up with us! We’re so excited for new music! What can you tell us about your upcoming single “Lottery”? It's always a pleasure - thank you for your support! I wrote the primary verse and hook for "Lottery" A cappella. It was a little ditty that kept swimming through my head. I sang it to Mark and he fell in love with it. When we showed it to Jeff, he laid down an electric piano track over a click and then had me sing over it. He built the music around my voice. From there, we added the bridge and background vocal hook. I've read that Stephen Lipson produced ‪Annie Lennox‬’s Diva album in this way, creating the music arrangements around her vocals. It's a good method because it allows each moment to be intentionally crafted. Mark also just made a fun visualizer for the song, which highlights the message of how money, even though it's essential for survival, isn't everything. instagram.com/shyboy twitter.com/djshyboy #BuzzMusic

Listen to Carlin Tripp here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Carlin Tripp! How has it been touring all around for you? What has been the most memorable experience for you? Hello! Thanks for having me. Touring has been a real joy, I love New England and any chance I get to visit places like Portland, Burlington, and Boston is awesome. There are great people in all these cities and some amazing venues, I feel lucky to share my music on these different stages. I would say my most memorable experience was when was Reid Genauer asked me to open for Strangefolk in front of a sold-out crowd at the Paradise Rock Club. It was a huge honor and a great nod from one of my all-time favorite bands. Also a chance to step on one of the most iconic stages in Boston. Let’s talk about your music! In what ways are you able to personally relate to your lyrics in songs like “When You Go”? Well, "When You Go" is kind of a melancholy tune, which is not a place I typically go to with my music, but there is no denying that life gets harder as you get older and the people that you love to do as well. My father was diagnosed with Lymphoma which was very difficult and I have grandparents who are now in their eighties. My mom also experienced a health scare not too long ago and I guess I just started thinking about the mark that we leave behind and how we live on in our loved ones' memories after we pass. What was the most challenging aspect of creating “Time Is On Our Side” And why? "Time Is on Our Side" is another song about growing up and getting older, though not quite as heavy as "When You Go." I think the biggest challenge with recording that song was that it was fairly new when I approached it in the studio, so I'm not necessarily sure I knew what it wanted to be. Whether it was a Folk song, a Ballad, or a more Americana sounding tune. Luckily I have a great production team and talented collaborators who really helped discover its sound. Were there any arrangements you wanted to change between “When You Go” and Time Is On Our Side”? There's always a part of me that wants to go bigger with the production and it would've been fun to add some percussion to these songs but we made do with what we had. Listening back to them I am very happy with the way that they came out and don't think I would change anything. As a touring artist, what’s your favorite element to performing live? I enjoy the spontaneity of performing live and the touring is great because it puts you in front of new audiences who might have never heard you before. It gives you a chance to make new friends and win over new fans outside of your local scene. I enjoy retelling the stories of my songs to folks who have never heard them before, it breathes new life into the music. What’s next for you Carlin Tripp? I've got a few shows through the end of the year and then we are expecting a second child in January so I will most likely take much of the late winter off, except for some local gigs. I am always trying to write new music so hopefully, the muse will oblige and some new ideas will come down from the ethers. There will likely be a late spring tour in the works with my buddy and longtime collaborator Jay Psaros. In the meantime, I am helping to run a booking agency and record label called PB&Jay Records based out of Weymouth, MA and we have a ton of shows that we are working on for 2020. There's always something new happening in the music world! facebook.com/carlintrippmusic instagram.com/carlintripp #BuzzMusic

Listen to Roni Marsalis here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Roni Marsalis! Congratulations on being recognized as our Artist Of The Day. Mind introducing yourself to our readers with a small insight into your upbringing and background? Well, I am Roni Marsalis, I am a spoken-word artist, singer/songwriter, and designer that was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo. I was raised by my mom, a beautician, and dad, a construction worker, up until I was a toddler. They parted ways and she met her a new boyfriend and they raised me along with his children and my two younger sisters they shared together. I grew up with a pretty normal childhood, I played in the dirt, rolled in the grass, rode bikes, played with dolls, I played the Sims a lot. I attended public schooling at some really awesome schools coming up; my elementary schools were both “magnet schools” one focused on Zoology and the other African Studies & I wound up graduating from a performing arts school and there I majored in Dance, Theatre, and minored in Fashion. I like to think that my childhood and schooling is the reason I am who I am today, aside from mom enrolling me in modeling school during my 8th-grade year of middle school. Modeling school was the first time I learned about etiquette dining lol I don’t follow those dining rules by the way unless I absolutely have too. In any case, I was pretty much an outgoing individual and very adventurous growing up and somewhat hot-headed during some points in my life when I felt rebellious. The rebellious times kind of propelled me into writing and fashion, basically anything I could use to express myself artistically I used it during my rebellious era. This era birthed some pretty awesome music by the way. Who would you consider to be some of your main inspirations and influences and why? -Some of my main inspirations as of late have been Summer Walker, Tory Lanes, and Lady London but overall the artist that have inspired me from the beginning of me taking my craft to the next level, are definitely Tupac, Floetry, J Cole, Toni Braxton, Left-Eye, Beyonce, and a poet named Suli Breaks and BlackIceThePoet. These artists inspire me so much because they are all a culmination of many other well-rounded artists. They are trailblazers in their field and legends. They also inspire movement in my being, their messages are empowering and the way they communicate it is awesome to me. Your music is completely dope and you crafted a sub-genre for hip-hop. How would you detail the themes behind some of your songs like Lavender Scent and Allegedly? -For Allegedly, the theme was really all about me finding myself stuck in situation-ships that both lead to heartbreak. Lavender Scent the theme is definitely purple, poetry, and passion. I wrote this song when Muhammad Ali passed away and I instantly knew ok this song is about peace, calm, relaxation, and the absence of love that will never leave you in spirit but physically. Did you stumble upon any challenges during the creation process of these singles? If so mind explaining? Ummm yeah other than legal challenges and lack of resources to make all of my visions come to fruition, the creative process was easy once I’m in my zone words tend to come effortlessly. Not all songs are like this but these songs were all pretty much easy to write & pursue What was the inspiration behind the songwriting in Nine Lives? My journey as a fuck-up with fuck boys lmao I wanted to finally empower myself for a change & the universe helped me. Reflecting on this year of 2019, what has been the most monumental moment of your career this year and why? The most monumental, wow I’ve had many moments this year that I am grateful for and still celebrating, but finishing my EP AMNESIA & being nominated as your Top 10. That means a lot especially since I know how much I work towards being an artist who makes music worth listening too. I’m grateful and I know next year will be even more monumental. twitter.com/ronimarsalis instagram.com/ronimarsalis #BuzzMusic

  • Ashley Woodruff Talks New Single "Clarity" and Plans for 2020

Ashley Woodruff talented contemporary pop artist based out of Sudbury, Canada. She developed a passion for singing and writing songs from a very young age, and began taking vocal lessons when she was 11. From there, Ashley was able to develop her voice through classical training. When Ashley was a teenager, she attended Sudbury Secondary School as a vocal music major. All of the positive feedback was the fuel needed, to eventually write and release her own songs. As an artist, Ashley Woodruff aims to be openly honest and speaks from the heart through her songwriting. Because of this, when you experience her music, it’s almost as if you’re reading her personal journal and diving into her raw thoughts and emotions. Ashley's releases throughout 2019 are her singles, "Somewhere In There", "Summer Love", and her brand new single “Clarity”. From contagious pop melodies to captivating ballad and sultry vocals, Ashle Woodruff is the complete package as a solo artist. Her impressive repertoire includes her self-titled album and a Christmas EP, as well as a new music video for “Summer Love” with a charming, vintage feel. She’s independently making her name known and we can’t wait to hear more from her going into 2020! Listen to Ashley Woodruff’s music here. Hey Ashley Woodruff, welcome back! We're completely captivated by your sound, you have such a strong and warming presence throughout your tracks. Can you tell us more about your intentions when you first began to curate your recent release “Clarity"? Hey BuzzMusic, thank you very much for having me back! Also, I really appreciate your kind words regarding my music. Before I started writing Clarity, I knew I wanted it to be a piano ballad. Since my last release "Summer Love" was an upbeat song, I wanted to create a contrast between the two. You've had such a strong love and passion for music at such a young age! How do you think you and your music have grown since you first started writing, versus now? I think both myself and my music, have grown through life experience. Also, with the help of producer Rob Murphy, I've gained so much knowledge of the music production process. “Clarity” is a beautifully stripped back piano ballad! How do the sentiments and sound behind this song differ from “Summer Love”? As I mentioned, even before writing "Clarity" my intentions were to write a piano ballad, in order for it to be contrasting with my last release. Along with the songs differing in style, the message behind each is completely different. While "Summer Love" is about getting into a summer relationship and wanting it to last, "Clarity" is about staying by someone's side through their struggle with mental health. We know that you're a lover of integrating a variety of elements in your music. Would you ever incorporate contrasting genres into your music, or do you think it would ruin the type of sound you're attempting to reach? I definitely love the variety! Back in 2017, I actually incorporated rap into my song, "By My Side". I would be open to mixing genres again for sure; it's a great way to switch things up! Do you have any plans to release a longer project in the future?! Along with the few singes released, I also have an album and a Christmas EP. I would like to release a longer project again in the future, but for right now I'm just focusing on singles. It was great having you here on BuzzMusic! Tell us more about what's next for you after this? Any shows in the near future?! It was great to be here, thank you again for having me back! I have a show coming up this week, and quite a few in December! • Artist Spotlight: The Good Dudes

Heart and soul are two perfect words to describe The Good Dudes. Hailing from southern Louisiana, this 6-piece band is filled with energy, rhythmic melodies, catchy lyrics, and lots of heart and soul. Myles Migl (vocals), Brennan Frederick (lead guitar), Ryan Vicknair (trumpet), Ben Richards (drums), Karl Songne (bass), and Tyler Thibodaux (keys/organ) are the dudes behind The Good Dudes. Reminiscent of blues and soul acts like Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, The Good Dudes make you want to get up and dance to every song. Combining rock n’ roll with southern soul, these guys can only be described as the real deal. Their debut album ‘Ready For It’ was released earlier this year. Listeners truly should be ‘ready for it’ when experiencing this electrifying and poignant album. The blend of bluesy rock instrumentation with Migl’s deep, honest, and Motown-Esque vocals makes for a powerfully rich and addictive sound. Audiences can expect to feel the nostalgia of simpler times when listening to the band. Their music is stripped of unnecessary extra production focusing on the true heart of the songs. Having already released two singles from the album, and gearing up to release a Christmas single, The Good Dudes are poised to bring their infectious sound to the mainstream. Listen to The Good Dudes debut album Ready For It here! Welcome to BuzzMusic, thanks for joining us today! What can we expect your upcoming Christmas single ‘Season of Love’ to sound like? It's got everything a good Christmas song should - jingle bells, good vibes, catchy melodies, and of course we love throwing in some Motown influence. It's an upbeat/catchy song that we had a blast making. There are a few extra surprises in that song too instrument-wise, it's a ton of fun to listen to. It's all about spending time with the people in your life you care about and making sure they know it. We love your album Ready For It! How did you find the recording process with this being your first album? Thanks so much! We're loving it too. It was an amazing first experience, especially since we had the guidance of our producer Charlie Gathe. He's the one who takes the vision and brings it to life. The process was a lengthy one, but well worth it. Typically we'd start with just an acoustic guitar and a vocal, then build the song up from there. Myles had some of the songs written for a long time and we wanted to make sure we did them justice. This album was less a case of us hitting the studio every day for a month or two to pump it out and more of a marathon instead of a sprint. We wanted to make sure we took the time to get it right since it was everyone's first introduction to the band. There were lots of late nights where we'd either feel inspired and lay down parts we were proud of, and when we didn't we just hung out and played old school SNES games. The comradery is just as much a part of the process as the recording, we want to bring the same energy to the recordings of these songs as we do to the stage and it helps if we're all having a good time! We absolutely love the vibe of your album and the bluesy soul sound. Who are your musical inspirations? Our inspirations as a band are sort of a melting pot, and that's probably why the sound ends up being sort of a gumbo of things. We draw inspiration from older Motown artists like Marvin Gaye and Al Green, but our drummer Ben loves Huey Lewis and the News and Brennan, the guitarist, is into Bad Suns and The 1975. Chanie's into jazz, Tyler loves classic rock, Vick gets down to Bobby Caldwell, and Myles digs Marc Broussard and Allen Stone. The challenge, but also the fun part, of making a record for us was finding a way to blend all stuff we love into our songs and we're really happy with the result. Your single Give Me One Chance is a bit more stripped down than the other tracks on the album, what was the desire behind that? We wanted Give Me One Chance to be a journey of a song, just as the lyrics portray a journey. It starts from humble beginnings with just an acoustic guitar and the vocal, and then builds all the way to the climax where there's strings, organ, guitars, a choir, piano - the works. It always makes for a high point of the live shows too when we bring on Nathan Sam (choir director) and the incredible vocalists he puts together. We love working with them. Do you have a favorite song that you enjoyed writing the most on the Ready For It album? Sweet Heat was definitely a song that was the most fun writing. It differed from a lot of the other songs because I had a storyline and hook that I shaped the rest of the song to. I definitely wanted a fun, laid back, funk-vibe for it and that put a lot less pressure on the songwriter in me. Tracking Sweet Heat in the studio was when we really let loose, there's gang backing vocals for the call and response, slide guitar, and even some hidden phrases and animal noises buried in the mix. What’s next for The Good Dudes? What can we expect to see in 2020? We've been hard at work getting more material ready, so you can expect some follow-up videos to our favorite songs on the album. We're bringing the live show to cities further than we've gone so far. And of course, you can expect a lot of new music over the course of the year. We're coming out swinging and can't wait to bring the show to more people. instagram.com/thegooddudesmusic facebook.com/thegooddudesmusic thegooddudesmusic.com #BuzzMusic

  • Paxson Chase Becomes Vulnerable and Exhibits Authenticity with His Lyrics.

Paxson Chase is an alternative hip-hop artist from Trenton, New Jersey who has had a successful year filled with various blessings! Earlier this may, Paxson Chase released his fourth studio project titled “Pink”. This project was a compelling insight on the authentic feelings of Paxson Chase where his lyrics depicted the themes of toxic relationships or what he called it, “tragedy in paradise”. Being able to connect with your audience is highly important and Paxson Chase knows exactly how to relate to his listeners. After a 4 month hiatus, Paxson Chase returned with a highly intriguing EP titled “Limb” in which he got vulnerable and discussed his struggles with depression and suicide. Paxson Chase strips away the wall between himself and the listener, giving everyone a more raw outlook on who he is past his music. Although uncertain on the date, Paxson Chase has plans to release another EP that’s bound to move people the way he’s been moving individuals. We can't wait to see what's next for Paxson Chase in 2020! He's definitely one to watch. Listen to Paxson Chase here. Welcome back to BuzzMusic Paxson Chase! Can you tell our readers about your successful year? My year was decent although I wouldn’t call it successful I released two EP’s that reflected the things I was going through at the time  but I’m a serious perfectionist I’m always looking at the small stuff so in reality it might have been a really successful year and I won’t see it till 2020. Do you have any traditions you stick to for your recording process? Mind detailing to us which? I recorded as needed, most artists record and just keep it away but that makes me “trigger happy” so to speak. like pink had 20 songs written but I only recorded 7 limbo had 15 I only recorded 5 it’s odd but it’s what I do I really couldn’t tell you why. Let’s talk about your EP, “Pink”. What was the most challenging aspect of writing the songs to this? The fact that the relationship The EP is based on I was still in. That made a lot of the issues in that relationship way worse which I understand, ya know? I told the world our problems I can’t expect you to be okay with it sorry I guess. Between “Pink” and “Limb”, which do you feel is the best representation of vulnerability for you and why? Limbo but that’s because it’s the most recent. I know that’s a real rapper thing to say but I write the things I feel at that moment limbo was like an extension of pink, like pink I was still in the relationship limbo I was just stuck in between leaving or staying. What can we expect from the next EP, Paxson Chase? We would love to hear what's coming next for you in the near future! I honestly don’t know I’m working on my next EP now entitled “pax world” but Knowing me that could all change in a snap. so I really can’t say right now it’s “pax world” when I can’t tell you because I don’t even know. instagram.com/paxsonchase_ #BuzzMusic

  • Robert James Nuzello Jr. Takes You on an Atmospheric Journey with His Singles, “Less” and “Vascular”

Robert James Nuzello Jr has an interesting style and unique musical ability that will you find yourself quite captivated by. His single “Less” was filled with special arrangements and a unique product that caters to the lovers of the unorthodox. The sound fx in the beat and intricate vocal delivery was highly memorable. However, the lyrics in “Less” felt extremely poignant and poetic. Less was even slightly funky with the synths and his voice resonance. Robert James Nuzello Jr takes his listener on this ambivalent journey that felt like we were traveling into the future. What’s unique about this single is once you reach the end of the song the entire production of the track transitions into something more vague and misty. It’s like you’ve reached the end of your destination. After a transporting vacation into the retro-funk arrangements, you come to a halt with an indistinct melody. His songwriting style stands out to me due to this. Robert James Nuzello Jr knows how to take his listener into a unique journey. The release of his single “Vascular” was highly atmospheric and nearly ethereal. The hazy production was dream-like with a component of realism in the lyrics. “Vascular” elevated you into this new aspect and realm of music. This song hypnotizes the listener with different elemental components for you to become lost in. “Vascular” makes you feel as if you’re escaping your day to day realities and becoming a character of your imagination. “Vascular” allows the listener’s creative freedom to roam while listening to this record and the end result is very much appreciated. I love this feature of the song the most. The effect it has on me and the way it gives me a space to become lost within my thoughts and mind. It’s a special, idiosyncratic way of creating music that’s only catered to the skill of Robert James Nuzello Jr. Robert James Nuzello Jr treats his music just like art. The images he paints are vivid while allowing his listener to get lost within the orientated music. “Less” and “Vascular” were both contextual singles that placed me into a state of relaxation. these songs create the vibe for you due to its natural peaceful and serene elements. He’s an enchanting artist with a sound that will transport you into multiple dimensions. Who doesn’t like music that allows you to take a break from the realities of some of our harsh days? You can listen to the otherworldly but captivating 2 song album here! Hey Robert James Nuzzello Jr., welcome to BuzzMusic! You’ve been making music ever since the 90s! In what ways has your style developed or changed throughout the decades? Hey, thank you for having me. I’m going with the super long answer on this one. Yes, I started playing guitar as a kid in the late 90s and by the early 2000s at 18 - 21 I was recording, performing, auditioning for labels, opening for big names, and licensing to film/tv with a couple of different bands. Took it for granted a little bit, we were young, it was fun, I was on a roll – dropped out of college twice. The music I made at the time was very guitar-driven, angsty, white stripey blues-based delay pedal stuff, I loved nirvana and rap beats. Those opportunities/projects fell apart (as things in life can easily do) and I moved to Los Angeles at 21 and started a band, same alternative/indie style of music. I was going to move to NYC at 23 and start a new band with Justin Courtney Roberts, but.. I broke my leg because it was 4am, I was drunk and whatnot, and I wouldn’t stop air humping my friend’s face while he was trying to just sit against the wall. He tackled me full force, health insurance-less emergency room in the morning, the whole thing. Anyway, I ended up back in New Haven and stayed, where Justin and I started Fake Babies. We called the genre Dirty Soul. I put down the guitar (mostly) and bought an MPC and synth. The albums are available, people like it. We also briefly ran a DIY venue called the Submarine, played a lot of gigs around the northeast and won ‘best other’ and ‘best r&b’ at the CT music awards. We broke up a few years ago, everyone lives in different states now but we text funny and/or expressive shit to each other sometimes. One of them has a real baby now. That was my age 23 to 30 peek band that never went anywhere far enough to go anywhere. Now I have a great quiet life and basement studio where I make basement soul alternative electronic-ish rock-pop music and put it on streaming and try to get some press. I have a record available called ‘Est. 1984’ where you can hear my solo work from 2007 – 2015. That record probably best represents the question I tried to answer here. There’s a lot of different styles on there, lo-fi 808 toy piano tambourine songs etc. Which has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as an artist so far and how have you overcame this? The music industry might be the most saturated industry there is. Plus, it’s been turned upside down a few times overdue to technology etc over the years. But, that’s pretty much why this interview is happening now too. I can get my music out into the world through streaming and online mags, I can make the basement soul and people all over the world can hear it, not the worst thing. But that’s the industry side, as an artist everything is cool. I’m not a good singer but I never really did anything to overcome that except keep doing it. I guess keeping a single project together and building upon it is tough when life moves so quickly and other people are involved. Also, your desire to make art changes. You continue to make it for different reasons, sometimes you make shit you don’t think is good until a new reason to make it finds you like the new you and you make shit you like again. Between “Less” and “Vascular”, what’s the main theme you were seeking to deliver in both singles? No theme really. I just like short songs that are to the point, have a good beat, and kinda weird sounds. What inspired you to write these songs Robert James Nuzzello Jr.? ‘Less’ – I made a 3-day deal in my head to quit smoking cigs. 72 hours no nicotine cold turkey self-induced rehab style. I set 3 days to have nothing that I have to do and nowhere to be, to do whatever I want whenever except smoke cigs. The first day I made ‘Less’. I made a beat, came up with a simple chord progression and layered the shit out of it and turned it into a song, kinda, thumping beat ditty. I think the 3rd day I went out and bought an electronic drum kit to plug my phone into the aux and play drums over rap songs. I started smoking cigs again on vacation about 3 months later. Love cigs, gotta do 3-day rehab again and make another song. ‘Vascular’ – I was playing synth on the super dreamy space sound that’s in the song now, came across a chord progression that moved me, wrote a couple of vocal hooks and bam, a song. I sampled a snip of talk in the breakdown part about how sometimes there are signals from our brain to our body that take us out of control of our body and brain. We’re sure you’re looking to do amazing things in this upcoming new year. Can you hint to our readers what we can expect from you in 2020? I will be releasing singles as I finish them – a few throughout the year probably. If you like what you hear follow me on Spotify or wherever so you can catch the new stuff. Please and Thank you. Have a good rest of your year. facebook.com/bob.nuzzello instagram.com/rjnjr #BuzzMusic

  • Next up on Your Indie Playlist; "Hello" by MP Grey

Martin Polle, or well known for his stage name MP Grey, is a German producer, composer and recording artist. In 2019, Indie Rock artist MP Grey had the privilege of signing with Blossom Records, a British- American record label based out of Los Angeles, California. His first international debut “Shoot for the Stars” featuring Los Angeles singer and recording artist Rudiger was released earlier this year and was followed by his next single “Mexican Sun”. We had the chance to check out MP Grey's latest release “Hello” which, has a very soft indie vibe to it. A beautiful piano ballad in the background gives the song a calm and warming experience. Don’t let the title fool you, “Hello” is only the beginning of a 3-minute description of reminiscing about the past and hoping for a brighter future which MP Grey beautifully depicts. What really sticks out for me from this song are the piano solos which remind me of artists like Lionel Richie and Elton John creating nostalgia and unique experience to listeners. It’s a nice addition to his other singles “Shoot for the Stars”, “Mexican Sun”, and “Your Smile” as they incorporate a central theme of warmth and invitation to a deeper conversation. Listen to "Hello" here. Hey MP Grey! We're excited to have you on BuzzMusic. What is the central theme behind your most recent singles? The central theme behind my most recent singles is a positive attitude to life. It manifests itself in how one deals with failures and how to pursue your own goals. Of course, love sometimes also plays a role. I partly composed the songs many years ago. To take that musically into consideration, I mainly produced them “old school” and only very sparingly added modern sound effects. It's a kind of retrospective. Where did your stage name MP Grey come from? Does it have a deeper personal meaning to you? That’s a good question. It is not very spectacular. MP stands for my initials. Gray means that I decided relatively late (but not too late) in my life to realize my dream and to produce my own music. There have always been reasons why I did not do it. Your song “Hello” sounds like a beginning to something. Are you trying to speak to someone in particular? I reflected on myself a little bit in this song. But basically, it's all about having a positive attitude and being aware of yourself. Then you can achieve everything. Also important is the trust of other people. We really love the addition of piano in "Hello". Is it all done by you? Are there any other musical instruments you play? I’m the composer and producer of all my songs. In “Hello” I played the piano myself and all the other keyboard-parts too. In my youth, my parents gave me a classical piano education. I am very grateful for that. It is important to me, to integrate as much as possible nature instruments in my songs, e.g. drums, horns, and guitars. I am fortunate to be able to win some excellent musicians for my songs. What is planned for 2020 and your overall path as a music artist?  In 2020 I will release my first album and I want to start with the second album with more modern elements. facebook.com/pg/MPGREYofficial #BuzzMusic

  • Spend "One Night" with the Fierce Los Angeles Artist Kidarah

Kidarah is a Los Angeles based singer with a sultry and fierce sound. With a background in musical theatre and post-production, her spunky attitude is perfect for conveying a multi-genre Rap and Pop fusion. She's the type of singer that leaves the audience wowed and wanting more. Because of her training, she is able to captivate us both on and off the stage. This multi-talented woman has an ample skillset including performing, writing and recording music. You might recognize this artist from her previous works of “Golden Sea” & “Bounce House”. While listening to Kidarah’s new single “One Night”, I am transported into a dancefloor with its smooth vocals and upbeat vibes. She reminds you of being on a first date with her lyrics of “give me one night, I like it”. The chorus is not only memorable but emotionally evoking. This song will have your head bobbing and body swaying to the music. With a catchy rhythm and soothing voice, you can hear the influences of Rihanna and Jordan Sparks. Just as heard many times throughout this song, Kidarah we like this! All it takes is one night to fall in love with this song. Listen to "One Night" here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Kidarah. How did education in musical theatre lead to a career in music production? Long story short, it didn’t. Musical theatre was an incredible experience, but when I picked up music production, it felt like a whole new world. I was almost living a double life creatively. During the day, I was this cookie-cutter musical theatre girl performing in In The Heights, and by night I was this vibin’ producer with color-changing lights in my room. Eventually, I figured out that the route where I get to write my own songs was the right path for me. I’m a poet, producer, songwriter, etc, and quite frankly, I’m just emotional. Everything inside of me gets poured into the music that comes out of me. Musical theatre is a really cool path, but it didn’t have enough opportunity for me to express my true self, you know? Writing for musical theatre is a very specific vibe, and I didn’t want to be stuck to the confines of it. However, that will always be a part of me and who knows, I may want to pursue being in musicals again someday! Do the lyrics “give me one night” have any personal significance to you? I’ve always had really distant relationships. No matter who it is, I’m lucky if I get one night with my man every couple of weeks or so. I think that’s just got something to do with my taste in guys. I love men who are driven and pursue their dreams. It’s definitely also a byproduct of pursuing music as my own career. “Give me one night” is a reminder to just give me a little bit of your time. I respect your hustle, but the longer I go without seeing you, the more excited I get to see you again. All I need is one night and I’ll be satisfied for as long as you need before we see each other again. You have a very sultry sound, which artists are the biggest influence on your style? Lady Gaga has been a huge inspiration to me since Just Dance was released. She just has a way of staying sexy, weird, and on point, all while starting inspired movements simultaneously. I also love Bebe Rexha, Rihanna, and Kehlani. These are definitely some of my favorite singers right now because they are strong, talented, independent women who always come out on top! How does “One Night” relate to your previous works of “Golden Sea” & “Bounce House”? One Night is an exploration deeper into my artistry. It has a really fun, dancey vibe that fits really nicely paired with Golden Sea. The lyrical content is different between the songs, but ultimately, the underlying theme is love. Being a solo artist, do you see yourself collaborating with other artists in the future? I definitely plan to collaborate with other artists. However, collaboration can be tricky. It’s all about finding artists that like my style just as much as I like theirs, as well as having a workflow that fits with one another’s. I don’t try to force collaborations, so when the time is right, I believe that everything will flow and bring me to the right person to make the next hottest jam. Thank you so much for the interview. We are excited about hearing more about your work. Do you have any upcoming live performances or album releases we can look forward to? I am really excited about 2020. I can’t go into detail about what’s to come quite yet, but things are definitely moving in the right direction. I am beyond the hype for the new music we have lined up for next year. What's next for you as 2019 comes to an end? Spending the holidays with my family and friends is the best way I can spend the end of the decade. Family and love always come first for me. I really cherish my family and am extremely grateful for their support in all my endeavors. I plan to work on writing some new music during my winter vacation, though, so the grind never truly stops! Once 2020 comes, I’m hitting the ground running! facebook.com/Kidarah instagram.com/Kidarahh twitter.com/Kidarahh #BuzzMusic
