- New Music Video: Futurist Releases New Visuals for “Bad Air, Still Water”
Futurist is an alt-rock, psychedelic pop band formed in Brooklyn and developed in Austin and Los Angeles. Futurist creates a wall of sound that ignites audiences with their style and modern mythology, through experimentation, a multimedia vision, and energetic delivery. Futurist is influenced by legends like Flaming Lips, Pink Floyd, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, My Morning Jacket, and Spoon. The band is known for its associations with folklore and psychedelia, with elements of this culture inspiring the group's instrumentation, effects, and composition. Futurist’s new album “Omens” is out now and available on all major streaming platforms. Filled with colorful, metaphorical brilliance, the new music video for “Bad Air, Still Water” is packed with relatable, easy to grasp, content. It captures the overall concept of the songs meaning perfectly while keeping the imagery exciting, you won’t want to take your eyes away. The 'main character’ (in this case a purple puppet), deals with life’s struggles such as being fired, getting a ticket, or being dumped, and slowly succumbs to a self-deprecating feeling of failure. The main message of “Bad Air, Still Water” is to overlook the things we can’t control in our lives and not let them take over your mind. We all strive to be who we think we need to be, rather than letting life take its course. A beautiful video to match a beautiful concept! An amazing job well done for Futurist once again! Welcome back, Futurist! How have things been going since the release of “Omens”? Hello again and thank you! It’s been a little over a month since we released the record and we’re definitely some plays, so that’s good. It’s hard to judge the real feedback until we start playing shows again, but we have these two music videos we are releasing before the end of the year and, if anyone is interested in getting a free CD of the new record, we’re mailing them out until the end of the year (link). Other than that, I’ve been working and planning for what’s next. Your song “Bad Air, Still Water” is so beautiful! Tell us about the sentiments behind the lyrics. What the significance of the title with the main theme of the song? Thanks. “Bad Air, Still Water” is a song about the weight of it all and the title is a reference to stagnation - the air is bad so I want to clear it and the water is still so I want to move it. “Don’t pay any mind to the cynical. They don’t know any better” is the chorus. What can I do in those moments where I've fallen down at the feed of my higher self and am dealing with the disparity between how I thought things would go and what actually happened…and not succumbing completely to hopelessness. I think the tune is best summarized through the questions posed at the end of the song. “Is there no escape? Am I enslaved to this feeling? I mean am I even helping? Could you just in case, hold me responsible?” The new music video had us captivated start to finish! It’s spectacular yet holds a heavier meaning behind it. What was the overall concept and vision you had for this video? Thanks, I made it (www.avalancheartists.com)! I had this general concept of this guy having the worst day imaginable. All of the characters in the story are sort of archetypical placeholders for the forces we contend with day to day: The cop is an authority. The politician is the law. The news anchor is the media. The boss is our work responsibilities. The advertising men are the commercial information we’re exposed to. And the girlfriend is a modern romance. Essentially the main character, Blue, takes the bullet from all of these forces at once and has a bit of an existential breakdown via the animated sequence. The end is intentionally ambiguous because I think it all comes down to you. Do you feel that your music is an accurate depiction of who you are as a group? Do you feel ultimately connected to your listeners through your music? Absolutely. This music is us, although I would certainly say that I feel most connected through the live show. We have a long way to go in that regard, so I think my sincerest hope is that this new record can help us lay the groundwork to connect better and with more listeners. It was such a pleasure to have you and we can’t wait to hear more! Can you give us any hints to what we can expect from you going into 2020? As I was saying, we want to play these new tunes for you live. You can visit www.futuristnow.net to stay up to date with our upcoming shows. We’re going to be playing a lot in 2020. We’re also deep into recording our next record and we’ll also have a few other new music videos down the road. Follow us on Spotify to stay up to date with our newest releases and thanks again for sharing our new music video. uturistnow.net instagram.com/futurist_music facebook.com/futuristnow twitter.com/futurist_music #BuzzMusic
- “Electric Raven” by Kyunaa Hits with Impact
Born in Russia and later moved to Cyprus, Kyunaa has been producing music since the age of 13. His new song “Electric Raven” is a fantastic song, one with a surprisingly simple yet addictive hook, a haunting vocal delivery, and some soundscapes that provoke a much deeper level of thinking than the vast majority of electro-pop releases. “Electric Raven” gets better with each revisit, proving to be incredibly original in more ways than one, but also utilizing a few well-placed captivating elements just to make sure your attention is held the whole way through. While it sounds great at first, each re-visit allows the lyrics to stand a little taller, and with that, you notice more intricacies and details that further underline the concept of the writing. It's an artistic piece at work, every layer building further on the ideas and the poetry within, and for all of these reasons, “Electric Raven” is a pleasure to lose yourself in. Though the drop never quite hits with heavyweight, the ongoing melodic aspects help create something a little more composed in a classical sense. Its consistency helps to express the underlying story and purpose. “Electric Raven” creates something enjoyable and memorable for its listeners. Kyunaa is an artist worth looking out for. Listen to and purchase “Electric Raven” here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Kyunaa! You’re an incredible artist and producer! What do you hope your listeners take away from “Electric Raven”? Music-wise, I hope people find a good blend of hard electro and soft, melancholic soundscapes. Lyric-wise, I hope some people find themselves understood and cherished, as this song is a sort of "call to action". “Electric Raven” blended so many elements together flawlessly. How do you go about crafting something like this? What are the main qualities you try to capture? I am always looking for maximum clarity and cohesion in production and delivery. It is easy to get lost and confused when trying to put together different genres or styles and end up with a metal-jazz-chiptune-hip-hop-core or something like that. It is important to know where to stop. Secondly, I try to add as many small elements to the instrumentals as possible (I call them "sparkles"), these little glitches or effects that will fill some unimportant gaps in the song. I try to add something every 8 or 12 beats at least. At the same time, too many things in the mix at once can lead to the metal-jazz-chiptune effect, so again, it is vital to know the difference between being smart and trying to be smart. What have been the main changes you’ve noticed in the music industry within the time you’ve been making music? I started making music in this "transitional" era, when everything was already digital, quick and beginner-friendly, but not friendly enough to provide you with the comfort and availability that is present today. Today, everyone who is anyone can acquire whatever skill or knowledge they want. There are countless lessons and tutorials available for free, all within a few-word search. When I just started, I was fortunate enough to have a friend around who was more experienced and, even more essentially, critical of what I was doing. He provided me with vital lessons and introductions, while also encouraging me. Today you don't even need a friend, because all that I mentioned and even more can be obtained for free from numerous sources - lessons and tutorials on Youtube, critical and positive feedback on the likes of Reddit, Discord, etc. All that keeps us from learning and self-improving today is ourselves. What's the most integral element to your music that you find is always integrated into every track you produce? Melancholy and some introspective lyrics, these feel very natural to me. I also try to add hooks for listeners, in one form or another. Thank you so much for chatting with us, it’s been a pleasure to feature “Electric Raven” on our platform! What can you tell us about what you’re working on next? Trying to put an EP together, to be released around February next year. Before that, I will drop a few songs to keep things interesting. instagram.com/killin.kei.neo.noire #BuzzMusic
- Patrick Kearns Makes Debut with Stunning Acoustic-Soul Single “Hideaway”
An East London native, Patrick Kearns has been heavily involved with music from a young age. With a background in both classical and theatre, Patrick wouldn’t switch to studying contemporary music until the age of 18. With this he discovered his main inspiration and influence, Allen Stone, who introduced him to the extensive world of R&B and Soul music. Patrick spent the next two years honing his craft and establishing his sound. Now he's making his captivating debut with the Acoustic-Soul single “Hideaway”. We checked out Patrick Kearns’ new single “Hideaway” and we were absolutely blown away by his stunning vocal ability and heartfelt songwriting. Beginning with a gorgeous soundscape and Patrick’s stunning voice, “Hideaway” doesn’t take long to evolve into a bone-chilling, heartfelt anthem. You can tellthat Patrick has poured his heart and soul into this release. Although the track is more somber than some of the mainstream hits we’ve heard, we’re still blessed with the ambiance of electronic elements and powerful vocals to bring the energy. I’d love to hear “Hideaway” in an intimate live setting to truly showcase Patrick Kearns’ charisma and sheer vocal power. Well worth a listen or two and we’re looking forward to hearing more! Check out “Hideaway” here. Hey Patrick! Do you believe that the way you intend to communicate your messages through your music is easily received by your listeners? "I think they'll definitely be able to get a sense of what I'm trying to say through my music. The way I interpret music is through the feeling and energy behind a song and It plays a big part in how I write my own songs. It can be a certain sound that resonates with me or a visual image from my imagination that gets me hooked, so when a person feels an emotion or gives them the urge to move from my songs, that's when I feel I've given them a personal experience to the way I hear music. But the best part about music is, everybody has their own way of reacting and interpreting a piece of art and I love seeing that from people." “Hideaway” was an incredibly versatile and beautiful track. Where did you draw the inspiration to create this particular type of sound? "If I'm being completely honest, there wasn't a direct inspiration, to begin with. When I first wrote "Hideaway", it was pretty much an R&B Club type sound. It wasn't until I went to my producer Ramzi with the track that we would end up transforming the sound. I remember we were in the studio and then Ramzi started playing the song on an acoustic guitar with a much more chill vibe, we immediately looked at each other and decided to work on it from scratch. I guess you can say I found my inspiration as I kept trying out ideas and trusting my instincts and that's how it became the song that it is today!" How would you say that “Hideaway” compares to the kind of music you curated when you first started songwriting? "Back when I first started Songwriting, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I didn't know how to play any instruments so I relied on people to help with instrumentation, I wasn't the best at writing lyrics and overall I didn't know how to put myself in the music. But after dedicating at least 2 years to just learning and self-educating myself on all of that, I finally got to the point where I had to take everything I knew and I was able to write "Hideaway. The difference between then and now is the journey itself, and I can say I'm proud of how far I've come. Do you prefer the more intimate recording process over live performance? How do you personally feel when you're performing your music live? "I'd say live performances have a special place in my heart. All my music experience comes from performing on stage to a live audience and I feel my most comfortable being on stage than anything. Recording in the studio is a completely different setting and something which I've been getting used, it helps when your Producer is really supportive and wants you to make mistakes in order to get better. Performing my music live is such a thrilling experience! it always gives me a great feeling that reassures me that this what I'm meant to do. It was awesome to be able to present “Hideaway” here on BuzzMusic! What do you think is next for you as an artist? Where do you hope to progress within the next couple of years? Thank you so much for having me! I loved having the opportunity to give people an understanding of me and my music. I've got BIG PLANS for 2020! I'm gonna continue to release singles and to create content that follows my journey which hopefully motivates and inspires other music artists to do the same!. I have a few personal goals that I want to achieve such as performing at Village Underground In London where several of my music inspirations have played, Being featured on the "COLOURS" youtube channel and a bunch more which you'll just have to wait and see haha. instagram.com/patrickkearnsmusic facebook.com/PatrickKearnsMusic #BuzzMusic
- Sidney B Is Back with Another Hit! Check out “Woodstock 69”
Born in Nice, France, but currently based in Los Angeles, lyrical artist and talented singer/songwriter Sidney B has explored and immersed himself into almost every type of genre there is. With a slew of diverse influences under his belt, Sidney is cranking out groovy music for all his fans to dance to and enjoy. From the house beats of Europe through to the funk of Latin America to the lyrical rap of the US, each area has imparted its unique music influence on Sidney, who now brings these styles together into an irresistible pop package. Listen to Sidney B’s new single “Woodstock 69” at top volume for the full effect. Multiple layers of synths, funky bass notes and beats rain down, showcasing a structurally entertaining and engaging piece that utilizes contrast well. The pauses and subsequent drops are effectively executed, seeing the track move from melodically entrancing moments of pop to grittier hits of alternative dance and even a flicker of funk-inspired soulful vocals just to keep things moving. Production-wise, “Woodstock 69” almost seems like two compositions at once, the instrumental version would work well in itself as cinematic escapism. Though with the vocal melody and story-line “Woodstock 69” becomes something else entirely. It feels a little electro-pop thanks to that level of personality in Sidney B’s incredible voice. The track grows to become more enjoyable with every few seconds that pass. Retro elements fuse fresh and uplifting qualities to offer a memorable and quite striking audio journey. Check out “Woodstock 69” here. Welcome back, Sidney B! We’re really happy to be featuring your song “Woodstock 69”. Can you explain to our readers the meaning and inspiration behind the track? Yes, I wanted to capture the vibrations of love, brotherhood, and unity. Values that I think are often missing in today's world and that is really needed. I wanted to take my audience into a time-machine that take us back at the peak of the hippie movement: "Woodstock 69". A place filled with music, love, and hope for a better future. It almost feels naive, like when we were kids and we're not making any distinction between sexes, skin colors, religions or social status. “Woodstock 69” is easily one of the most enjoyably addictive and upbeat pop songs to emerge in quite a while! Was it your intention to build something that would translate in such an energetic and stage-ready manner, or did that just come as part of the writing process? It's a celebration! When I perform this song live with my band it goes on for at least 7-8 minutes as everyone claps and sings along. At my humble level, It was my intention to create my own "We will rock you". A "Stadium-ready" song that brings people together and elevates their spirit. The only music, which is the universal language, can create this feeling of unity and excitement. Who has had the biggest influence on your life musically thus far? Can you describe the impact this particular individual has had in terms of your new song “Woodstock 69”? My biggest influence, if I had to choose one which is hard, would definitely be Michael Jackson. I always wanted to walk in his footsteps. Not only he was one of the greatest entertainers in history but, his music was blended with powerful and timeless messages. I love to make people dance but also make them think when they take a closer look at my lyrics. I still believe that good music can change the world and influence lives. What can you tell us about the colorful new music video you’ve released for this single? I wanted to create something simple that visually translates the feeling of the song. A video full of colors, movements and that would give a feel of my live performances. I shot it in a studio in Downtown LA using different color backgrounds and camera angles. I will tell you a secret: I recorded 4 other videos that day around the same concept that I will be releasing before the end of the year. Among them a mashup of songs of the Beatles in Funk...so stay tuned. Thank you so much for chatting with us again! Can you share with our readers one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned in the music industry thus far? It's always a pleasure chatting with you Buzz Music! To be totally honest, I love all aspects of music and being an artist, but I don't have much love for the Music Industry. To me, it is the hardest business to be in, because no matter how hard you work or how talented you are, it all comes down to who you know. Your efforts don't always match your success, and luck plays a huge part in making or breaking an artist. I decided to focus less on the results and metrics, and focus more on the pleasure that I have and that I give when I make music. I was depressed for a long time about not reaching the level of success that I thought I deserved, until one day I received a video of 2 little girls, filmed by their parents, dancing in their living room and singing my songs by heart. At that moment I understood that I didn't need millions of fans if I can impact at least 1 life or give joy to a child. So my biggest lesson is: Do it to touch the soul, not to get the numbers. facebook.com/sidneybmusic twitter.com/sidneybmusic instagram.com/sidneybmusic #BuzzMusic
- Freak Fingers New Album “La Paz” Is Genre-Bending and Captivating in Every Way
Andre Paolo Juan and Joan Sullivan combine powers and create something bigger than themselves with their artistic outlet Freak Fingers. They combine R&B and soul with organic instrumentation to create something completely unique and breathtaking. Freak Fingers’ full-length album “LA Paz” is a project that immediately grabs attention. This unique fusion of passionate, soulful vocals, poetic imagery, and a decidedly retro, yet classically-inspired soundscape is the perfect way to kick off a playlist with intrigue. “Escape Room” goes on to lean towards the distorted jazz-inspired piece, enveloping the listener in an artistic moment of engagement, ultimately introducing the album in a powerful and completely unexpected manner. Joan’s sweet and raspy vocals make for the perfect vessel through which these ideas can emerge. Simultaneously, this trip-hop style, jazz-cafe soundscape and subsequent moments of funk and R&B hold you close. The smooth grooves and likable vibes make it a total pleasure to escape within. “Carry This Fur Elise” brings the mood back to mellow with the bare essentials – piano, a light beat, a scattering of vocal fragments. Joans’s voice meanders impressively as this regretful and heartfelt song pours through. “Here” afterward exemplifies many of the album’s underlying sentiments and emerges with confidence and a chaotic gathering of elements. It quickly kicks up a sense of brightness and an eighties beat hits hard and the melodic riff in the distance adds musical personality. “Vere” leads with a creative beat that takes its time to build. Further realizations emerge, regret and possibility meet to see Freak Fingers consider the past followed by the future. It kicks up with a superb soundscape and an engaging verse melody – short lines and a simple, memorable tune, with heightened peaks at the end of each section, all help make this an absolute personal favorite from the album. There’s a whole lot of emotion here, and this is what “Puzzle Peace” is, every aspect works hard to portray the weight of relationship struggles and false impressions. Freak Fingers’ honesty juxtaposes the colorful, contrastingly optimistic soundscape here in a wonderful way. This is an engaging and catchy tune, but with an undertone of melancholy and misunderstanding. Beginning with a simple and fairly optimistic soundscape, a jazz-style, quick-paced chord presentation, “What I Do” moves into its quietly vocal-driven groove with a certain shyness at first. As things progress, the beat shows itself to be a little more creatively inclined than the average offering, leaning back and forth between genres. More than this though – the lyrics begin to pour endless personal truths and even vulnerabilities into the mix, effectively taking the experience somewhere else entirely, and introducing an artist with an undeniably open and genuine way with writing. “Singularity” is poetic and balances metaphorical imagery with personal dashes of experience and emotion. The softness of the presentation works well as the final song – rather than going out with a bang, Freak Fingers utilize these closing moments to remind listeners of the heart and soul that ultimately drives every track in the collection. Creatively balancing those soulful, delicate R&B vocals and a backbone of organic instrumentation, “LA Paz” is in a league of its own. Fusing impeccable production skills, with silky smooth vocals, ever-impressive musicianship, and an undeniably heartfelt and personal way with writing, their sound is something that breaks down the walls between genres and all the while paints Freak Fingers as an act truly worth knowing about. Check out “LA Paz” here and keep scrolling for our exclusive interview with Freak Fingers! Can you tell us more about your intentions when you first began to curate your recent album? This album was actually completely unintentional. After our relocation to Los Angeles, we had this power surge of creativity. It began with one song called "Here," which we felt like we were going to release as a single, but we just kept writing as we coped with the transition. Pretty soon, we looked at each other, and we were like, "Wait, is this an album?" We just transformed our stresses and worries into music that allowed us to rise above and find peace. How long have you been making music, and what are your main aspirations right now as a duo? We have been creating together for almost two years now, and we have always felt things as they come. We just like to stretch our fingers out as far as possible and see what we have managed to reach. So probably a tour is on the horizon. Ideally London, New York, and Amsterdam, maybe Idaho. Our main goal is to share our music with any person who may be touched by our story, sound, or lyrics. You seem to be artists that put more thought into your lyrics than most. What can you tell us about the lyrical depth within “Singularity”? It all started with a Netflix documentary called "NOVA: Black Hole Apocalypse." Our third eyes were really opened, and we ended up having a late-night discussion about the world, our universe, karma, fate, chaos, relativity, singularity, and Big Bang: the sequel, maybe. We normally thrive on feeling so in-sync with one another, and that night, we accepted that there is a certain ebb and flow to this life. There is this unspoken, intricate balance of riding out the waves, and at times, swimming against the currents to become whole again. A black hole can be a destructive, planet-eating, galaxy-sucking beast, but ultimately, beyond the event horizon, there is a singularity. Being out of sync can feel as chaotic as stars imploding, but singularity can bring back balance and peace. How many releases have you done as a duo? How did this collaboration come to fruition? Together, we have released a handful of singles, an EP called, "Hands," a cover of "Moon River," our debut album, "LA Paz," and we have already begun our most evolved sounding album called, "Los Feliz," set to release in 2020. Andre and I met at a coffee roastery by day, bar by night called, Spokesman, in Austin, TX. I was working behind the bar when Andre first came by on his birthday to have a couple of drinks. A couple of months later, Andre had applied and gotten a job at Spokesman himself. We hit it off immediately doing something we both enjoyed very much: making coffee. We talked tasting notes, discussed pouring methods, went to latte art competitions on edibles, talked about our dreams, started jamming together, wrote a song called, "Lonely Pop," and froze. We had to take a moment because things were beginning to align with the full moon and such. We realized that there was way more to us than co-working. We became best friends who both had disjointed digits driven to create, so we decided to start a project called, "Freak Fingers." Thanks for chatting with us! How have you honed your songwriting style over time, and what do you think are the main qualities that make a song truly connect and last in the long-run? Over time, we have learned that music may not be forced. If one opens themselves to vulnerability and listens, the music will find them. We often get lost focusing too much on details and structure, which are both important, but ultimately, we find what works best is feeling something through and giving it space to free form. Letting go of expectation has been a lesson learned as well. If we have a preconceived worry about a song sounding too cliché or complex, then it will be. Once again, you have to find this unique balance of reaching and flowing; that is what makes a song timeless. The lyrics have to match the melody, and vice versa, as if one could not exist without the other, very much like puzzle pieces. Music has always been existing magic in nature. Lyrics are our way of interpreting and connecting with that force in order to understand the world around us. The more honest you can be in a song, the longer-lasting it will be. - Michelle Mondesir Stuns with Vocal Ability in “Give Me All Your Lovin"
Michelle Mondesir is a soulful songstress, songwriter, the CEO of the studio Poetic Groove Productions, and more recently, the lead singer and lyricist for Toronto’s explosive rock band Madame Psychosis. Even though she pours her energy into Madam Psychosis, Michelle has never lost her passion for R&B/soul music and is consistently releasing solo material. Her latest single “Give Me All You Lovin’” is a sultry new R&B single that was just released and Michelle has plans to drop another single in December! “Give Me All Your Lovin’” brings back nostalgic sounds of yesteryear and consists of the smooth and old school- inspired R&B vocals combined with a gorgeous melody. Michelle’s clear-cut and confident vocal bursts into the room with purpose and depth. It’s a beautiful example of her love for the art-form. The soundscape is gorgeous as “Give Me All Your Lovin’” provides a few minutes of musical bliss and delicacy, and that vocal drive and these lyrics feel incredibly hopeful and mighty in the way they’re delivered. “Give Me All Your Lovin’” is a versatile track that can be interpreted in whichever way suits the listener. The R&B backbeat keeps the track swaying with Michelle’s expansive vocals. Her expert lyricism is the result of years of practice leading up to this release. With so much notable success and so much to look forward to after this release, we can’t wait to see what Michelle Mondesirdelivers next! Check out “Give Me All Your Lovin’” here and scroll down for our interview! Welcome to the BuzzMusic Michelle Mondesir! Are you able to share with our readers what first got you passionate about music? I’ve always loved music, I think I literally came out of the womb singing lol. I loved Whitney Houston growing up, so much so, it ended up being a running joke in my family and I was nicknamed “Little Whitney”. Growing up, I was always surrounded with a wide variety of music and greatly influenced by my parents' eclectic taste in music. I also started playing the piano at the age of 5 which even further engrained music into my DNA. "Give Me All Your Lovin’" hit us to our very core with your vocal performance. Do you find it comes effortlessly to fill your voice with such soul and passion? Thank you and I’m so happy to hear that it had such an effect! I honestly try to write music that will move people, that can be felt not just heard and that can evoke an emotional response. It’s important to me that it comes from a place of truth whether my own truth or someone else's truth. Putting myself in someone else’s shoes has always come easy for me, so as long as I tune into that it isn’t so hard to sing from my soul. As a song that presents itself as a pleading love song, was it hard for you to write/record "Give Me All Your Lovin’”?! Hmm, it wasn’t hard to write or record the song. I like that people formulate their own idea of what any given song means to them. For me, as I sat to write it, I wanted it to be a song that reminds people of that deeply seeded passion they have for that someone they want romantically, in the most raw yet loving way, for lack of a better way of saying it, a song that gets your loins going lol. Do you feel that your music is an accurate depiction of your life? Do you feel ultimately connected to your listeners through your music? I enjoy paying attention to the world around me especially as it pertains to people and how they navigate life. We’re all so different, and yet so much the same. My music is reflective of not only my personal experiences, but also the experiences of the people around me, both those people I know intimately and also those whom I’ve met only briefly. I do feel connected to my listeners, especially when they tell me what my music has meant to them, how it’s made them feel, or how it has helped them through a tough situation in their lives. Can you describe how your performances feel? Do you enjoy live shows, or do you prefer the actual songwriting process? Also, any solo live shows coming up in the near future?! I enjoy performing, especially at intimate venues but I do also truly love the creative process which usually happens in the wee hours of the morning when I’m alone, there’s silence and most are asleep. I love going into my home recording studio in my pjs with a cup of tea or something stronger haha and just letting my mind and heart do it’s thing. Although I don’t currently have any solo live shows lined up, since I have a busy line-up with my alt-rock band Madame Psychosis, I am working on lining up a number of solo shows for 2020 in conjunction with a new album release. michellemondesir.com facebook.com/MichieMondesir instagram.com/michiemondesir #BuzzMusic
- “City Lights” by Cardiac Half Explores the Intoxication of New Love
Brother-fronted, pop duo Cardiac Half is comprised of Drew and Dylan Miller. Formed in 2016, they released their successful 5-track EP in 2017 and have been consistently on the rise since. Influenced by an extensive range of pop, alternative, and electronic artists, they aim to deliver emotionally packed, engaging, and downright addictive music to the industry today. Cardiac Half’s new single “City Lights” leads with a uniquely expressive, breathy and raspy yet smooth vocal, which guides you through the poetic observations and intimate reflections in a likable and authentic manner. From a songwriting perspective, the compelling, descending melody of the verse within “City Lights” paves the way with perfect anticipation towards the ultimate and mighty resolve of the hook. The drop is incredibly satisfying, not purely because the production is so professionally crafted and designed to energize, but because the songwriting itself has made it so. The lyrics are extremely honest, personal and open with the listener in a respectable manner. “City Lights” easily leaves its mark from the beginning right up until the final downpour of color when that unforgettable effective hook kicks in. Cardiac Half adds brilliant dynamic, holds your interest further, and with that meandering verse, melody helps really create the ultimate peak for the final chorus. “City Lights” is a worthy radio hit and likely a track we’ll be hearing plenty of over the coming weeks and months. “Blending together a call for a care-free spontaneity and celebration to live in the moment is backed with the promise of eternal, unconditional love for whatever is to come.” Scroll down for our interview with Cardiac Half! Welcome to BuzzMusic Cardiac Half! Great to be able to chat with you, thanks for the interview! How did you both get started in the music industry and begin creating together? Well, we’re brothers, so we’ve been playing music together for a long, long time. We’re also several years apart, so we were both in different bands during our college years. After we graduated, we created Cardiac Half and played our first show under that name in the summer of 2016. We love your new single “City Lights”! Tell us more about the sentiments behind the song? Do your lyrics generally focus on real-life experiences? Thanks! We love being on the road, especially driving through the city late at night when there’s not a ton of traffic. The lights are bright, the tunes are pumping, and it’s almost surreal. It’s even better when you have a friend or someone special you can share a moment like that with. Certainly, life experience plays a role in the writing process, but the truth is told, it’s always a little bit embellished. Your music always seems to light up the room and lift an audience up just when they need it! Was it your intention to be this kind of optimistic artist, or is it something that simply comes naturally for you? A little bit of both you could say. Although lately the songs we’ve released are more on the darker side of pop. But when we’re playing live, we like to have fun and offer people hope in a broken world, you know, tell people about the hope we have in Jesus Christ. How have you honed your songwriting style over time, and what do you think are the main qualities that make a song truly connect and last in the long-run? The more you write, the better you become. So we try and write all the time, a lot of which is stuff that will probably never see the light of day. Each time we release a song that we feel is our best yet, we try and raise the bar in an effort to make the next one even better. Obviously, a memorable song needs a catchy hook, one that’s easy for people to remember and fun for people to sing along to. But relatability is key too. A song needs to move people, help them reminisce about past experiences, comfort them, etc. Thanks for talking with us! What do you have planned in the near future? What are your next steps as a duo? Thanks for having us! Well, we’re toying with the possibility of releasing either an EP or an LP sometime next year. We’ve got some really cool songs and other media in the works for 2020 and we can’t wait to share it with everyone. #BuzzMusic
- James Ghareeb Becomes Vulnerable in “When U Left”
Hailing all the way from Chicago Illinois, but relocating to Los Angeles, California, singer and songwriter James Ghareeb has a unique blend of Pop, Rock, and Acoustic folk that fuses together to create an effortless experience you do not want to miss out on! We took a listen to his single titled “When U Left” and the production of this record was absolutely on point. The melodic piano keys and theatrical arrangements of the instrumental that moved with a nomadic and dejected vibe helped curate an atmospheric ballad that unleashes a realm of emotions in its listener. James Ghareeb's voice soars over his listeners and graces them with a special touch. You become lost within the song, feeling every note and soft transition. “When U Left” is the perfect song to add to your break-up playlist. We all are guilty of lying down and listening to emotionally convicted music that speaks to our souls and for our feelings, and “When U Left” couldn’t be any more fitting for that squad of jams. This song was so good that it caused repeated listens. The entire aura of this track felt highly pure and authentic. The emotion delivered in James Ghareeb’s voice felt raw and helps the listener paint the perfect nostalgic image in their head. James Ghareeb is an amazing artist with tons of quality in not only his music, but his voice as well. His register was showcased so fluently. The notes just smoothly connected through multiple branches of pitches so effortlessly. The skill James Ghareeb has is immaculate, and “When U Left” is the perfect sentimental song to reflect on any past disappointment, rejection, or hurt. We can’t help but be excited for what he has in store! Listen to "When U Left" here on Spotify. Hey James Ghareeb! Knowing you have multiple different genres and styles you’re able to execute, do you have any musical influences that you catered to growing up? In the last couple of years, I've been dabbling with different sounds and different instruments to really find what "my sound" is. I think I've found a genre I'm very happy with, for now. Growing up, I was addicted to pop, but as I grew older, I found comfort in folk music, and artists like Ben Howard, Matt Corby, and recently Leif Vollebekk and Dermot Kennedy. Your single “When U Left” was absolutely beautiful. The lyrics felt very authentic and passionate. What inspired you to write this piece and how did you find the arrangements you were seeking in the production of it? Thank you! There is definitely some pain behind the song, but it's more about expecting the unexpected from family, your partner, friends, etc.. whatever it means to you, is what the song is about. As far as the arrangement of the song, I wanted to add some sort of ambient vibe to it and drop the vocals so the music has a chance to speak. What does this song “When U Left” mean to you as an artist? This song, in particular, means a lot to me, not just because of the music but, because of the collaboration with Native. Native lives in Switzerland and I found him on a playlist on youtube. I automatically fell in love with his sound. I reached out to him in hopes to talk music, months later he was in LA and recording When U Left with me. This song reminds me that no matter the time and place, music is a way of bringing others together. Were there any moments in the recording process of “When U Left” that was at all challenging? Why or why not? I fought with myself for a while trying to decide whether or not to add a bridge. I ended up letting the music ride with a very faint electric guitar in the background; I felt as if that's what the song needed. Other than that, it was a mutual collaboration between Native and me. We hear you have an album titled “Colours” set to release in the upcoming year of 2020. What can we expect from this project? The album is officially all recorded and ready for release - I've been working on this album for over 3 years and I'm more than ready for people to hear it. You can expect a mix of emotions poured into numerous songs outlining everything from pain to happiness. I've never been more excited to release music in my life and Colours has everything I've been feeling. instagram.com/jamesghareeb twitter.com/jamesghareeb #BuzzMusic
- Tynan Smyth Talks New Single "Japan" and More
Hey Tynan Smyth! Welcome to BuzzMusic, and congratulations on your latest track "Japan" ft. Benjii! How did the overall production and curation of the track go? Did the final track match your initial vision, or did this vision change over the course of production? Thank you! Overall the production went great! Benjii is a great artist to work with and my team supported me all the way through. My engineer gave me some awesome changes to what I initially envisioned and I think that with his help I made a better track overall. "Japan" is one of those catchy and impactful hip-hop tracks that we know we'll be hearing more of from the music world. What would you say is the main element to your music that you include in each track to leave the Tynan Smyth effect on listeners? For my music, I try to resonate with listeners who love mainstream music but I try to implement a few obscure references and I don’t lie throughout my music. I think this can relate to listeners who don’t always like songs about money, drugs, and demeaning women. How are you able to combine mainstream as well as underground inspirations to create a new sound? Who are some of your influences? -I listen to a lot of underground artists around my area as well as mainstream artists and I believe that by doing this a new wave of music will be created. Underground artists are amazing and genuine, but mainstream artists have their uniqueness which lets them stand apart. I was a fan of Benii’s for a while and a few other local artists I listen to include Boslen, Eric Reprid, nesgoneglobal, just to name a few. For mainstream artists, I love Travis Scott, Schoolboy Q, nle choppa, and Gunna. What's been good in the music scene in Port Alberni, BC? Are you heavily influenced by the current music present in your city? The music scene in Port Alberni is quite awful, to be honest. I am unable to say I was influenced by music in the city but my experiences throughout my life there have given me material to write about. I think the music scene can grow it will just take some effort from the public to stray away from the mainstream and support their friends, family, and community members. How long did it take you to authentically craft your sound? Did you find your initial sound easily, or did it require some work on your end? I think my sound is continuously developing. From my first project to my recent single there is an enormous difference in quality, lyrics, and flow. I think I am approaching my sound, but the journey of making music is too fun to rush through. Thanks, Tynan Smyth for coming on BuzzMusic to showcase "Japan" and to allow our readers to get a better sense of you artistically! Now that the new single is released, what's your next move within the music world? I try to be one step ahead and be prepared for the future. I have another single on the way with another local feature from another great artist. Continuously working towards my goals and enjoying every step of the way. I’ve got great fans and support systems in place to propel me further and I appreciate the opportunity from BuzzMusic to allow me to speak about my work and the effort I put into it. - Combining the Best Elements of Funk and Soul, “Definitely” by Janockeil
Janockeil is a Dallas-based singer/songwriter, who began his incredible music career as a gospel singer at 12 years old. Later transcending his sound intro a spectacular blend of gospel, R&B, soul, and pop, Janockeil is an artist that is swiftly on the rise. “Definitely” is straight to the point and direct. You can feel the passion throughout the song in his soulful lyrics. Blending soulful pop tones with meandering R&B progressions, resulting in an ultimately creative aura that stylishly walks the line between R&B dance vibes and something a little closer to pop, the single moves to the beat of its own drum. Janockeil drives with a sense of intention and plenty of space. The soundscape on this leans partly towards those late-night vibes, but partly resides somewhere a little harder hitting. By the time the track comes to an end, the backbeat has energized the room and the hook has softly, but surely woven its way into your ear. “Definitely” puts Janockeil’s heart on display. Everything about the delivery and the structure of the track works hard to reflect that. And don't worry - there’s plenty more music to come from Janockeil as he's prepares to release his third EP in 2020. So stay tuned! Listen to “Definitely” on streaming services here and keep scrolling for our interview! Hey Janockeil! How has the music world been treating you so far throughout 2019? Hello Buzz Music! It's been great thus far! I released my second EP, After, this past Spring and I just released my brand new song, Definitely. I'm in a great space creatively and I'm very happy about the music I've been making as a singer and songwriter. We immediately found that “Definitely” captured an alluring melody with so many different elements! It's what caught, and ultimately kept our attention! What was the overall mood you wanted to set for listeners in this particular track? First of all, thank you so much for that! First and foremost, melody drives everything for me when I'm writing. The beat was so alluring itself that it immediately led me to that feeling of falling in love and that's where the inspiration came from. The song has a feel-good, chilled vibe to it that I wanted to capture that same feeling melodically and lyrically. How did the songwriting and recording process execute for “Definitely”? Did you fall into any creative slumps while initially writing the track, or does the curation process flow naturally for you? Well, I started writing the song around the beginning of the year while I was writing and recording my second EP. The melody came to me pretty quickly and naturally. Typically, when I'm writing, the melody comes first and then the lyrics come secondary, sometimes they'll occur simultaneously. I was going to include it on the project but I felt that stylistically, it didn't flow well with the ultimate sound of the EP, so I saved it. I always knew that I was going to come back and finish writing the rest of the song, so after the release of the After EP, I went back to the song and now we have Definitely. The song completely stands on its own and I was so eager to release it. It pretty much set the precedent for my next project. Tell us more about the meaning of the lyrics within your new release “Definitely”. Lyrically, it's about love, falling in love, knowing the exact moment you fell in love. Love is such a universal language and I think everyone at some point in their lives can relate to that word and all that it entails, so it was definitely an easy topic to write about. Thank you so much for chatting with us! Tell our readers more about your definitive aspirations as an artist! What would you say is the ultimate goal, artistic wise? First of all, thank you so much Buzz Music! I'm very grateful to have this chance to give people more of an insight into who I am as an artist. I'm all about the music and the art, and nothing makes me happier than singing and writing and playing. My ultimate goal is to perform all over the world, whether it be at the Grammys or music festivals. My dreams are limitless and I want to reach as many people as I can and be of service through my words, my music, and my voice. If one person is touched or moved by anything that I do musically, then I'm on the right path. This is my gift, this is my love, and this is my life!
