- BuzzMusic Catches Up With Lil Ken!
What's up Lil Ken! We're happy to have you here at BuzzMusic! Mind telling our readers a bit about your background and where you grew up? I grew up in the projects of West Tampa. Single mom, dad arrested when I was young. Watching my mom struggle to take care of me and my siblings, really inspires me to keep going with music even more. It’s bigger then me, what I’m doing now is for my family, for my mom! Who would you consider some of your main inspirations? in what ways have they inspired you? My main inspirations would be Lil Wayne and Young Thug. How Lil Wayne uses his word play to make listeners actually think about what he’s saying played a huge part in why I fell in love with music, the way he delivers and paints pictures in people’s heads has always stood out to me. Young Thug because he created and made it okay for rappers to have melodies in there raps and to have unorthodox flows. We listened to your single "Right Into It" and we loved it! what was the vision you had for this track? For “Right Into It” I wanted to paint a picture and make the listeners feel the beat, and so they could have a vivid picture of what goes on in my life. Did you stumble upon any obstacles during the production of "Right Into It"? In what ways was this challenging? Only obstacle I crossed was altering the beat too fit certain parts of the vocals better. Tell us about your upcoming tape! what can we expect from it? My album “Martin Luther Ken” will be released either in October or early November. I just want everything to be perfect for my fans before I put it out. - Catch Up With Austyn King!
Welcome to BuzzMusic Austyn King! Knowing you found your passion for music production at an early age, do you recall any early specific inspirations or influences? My biggest inspiration for sure is Janet Jackson. The Velvet Rope Tour HBO special was a monumental moment for me growing up. I knew right as I saw her coming on stage at the top of the show singing the title track of that album, I felt special & I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life. What's the biggest challenge you face when creating a new song? How would you maneuver through the obstacle? The biggest challenge I’ve found recently is just making sure I’m writing songs for myself to enjoy first and foremost. I maneuver around it by being patient with the process of the song I’m creating & allow the energy from it to help invoke the emotion needed for the song. I’m learning to be patient with my songwriting. Tell us some background information on your project "ArtMusicLife Vol 3." How would you detail the songwriting approach behind this project? I wrote, produced, arranged & recorded every song on the EP. And it was mastered by Derek Taylor who is an amazing musician & engineer. My songwriting approach was very easy this time around because I knew the concepts for each song. I also wanted each song to be in your face sonically when you heard them. I believe I achieved that. What was the main theme for "ArtMusicLife Vol 3."? In what ways does it differ from your early releases? Volume 1 was a declaration. Volume 2 was all about affirmations. Volume 3 is all about reclamation. I’m reclaiming a joy inside my music & finding my voice. I was losing that piece & Im glad I’m finding it again. When will we see you performing in the LA Area Austyn King? I am making plans to tour the LA/California area this fall. It’s all about timing, money & finding the right opportunities. Listen to All 5 tracks on Spotify here and keep scrolling for more with Jaclyn Manfredi! How did know that music was something you wanted to pursue? I always knew I wanted to pursue music from a really early age. The moment that defined it for me was when I performed at the Apollo theatre. That moment I knew that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. Thank you for sharing your EP with us! "Psychic" really stood out to us. What inspired the lyrics in this track? It all started with finding the melody with this one. When I found a melody that worked and caught my eye, I wrote the whole song around it. The lyrics came naturally actually, at that time me and my friends were obsessed with astrology and psychics etc. so it felt very full circle. How does your music now, compare to when you first began writing? How have you developed as an artist? I think I’ve experienced a lot more things from when I first started to write music. That has helped a ton since writing from experiences can pull the best material. I think I’m still developing as an artist everyday, but the best thing I can do is continue to stay true to my roots and what I love and naturally the my best self will come out. What do you want your listeners to take away from your music? I want someone to listen to the lyrics and relate or feel what I feel. That’s the biggest thing, is for them to know that someone else goes through the same things too. What’s next for Jacyln Manfredi? Performing!! More music and shows. Just to keep evolving and growing as an artist. Stay connected with Jaclyn & keep updated with latest releases and shows via her Instagram! #BuzzMusic

- Getting To Know Clinton Tarantino
Welcome back to BuzzMusic Clinton Tarantino! Tell us a bit about yourself and your background? What inspired you to begin music? Some of my background into what got me inspired to start DJing was so much great music in the 90's & 2000's. I really loved club music & hip hop back then and was very curious at a young age to start producing & DJ'ing it myself. I grew up listening to Scatman John, Ace of Base & Prodigy. When I was able to get my hands on a collection of great dance music like Universal Religion then starting to listen to other mixes back in the earlier days of A State of Trance by Armin Van Buuren, In Search of Sunrise mixed by Tiesto and Trance Around the World by Above & Beyond it really shifted my priority from listening to diving deeper into the music. I then started DJing every day for a couple years and dabbled into production. Then I took production full on to make my own music that truly inspires me as well as DJ live over the last decade. What are some major differences between playing a full live set and Djing live? Which do you find more challenging? Which do you prefer and why? Some of the most major differences between DJing live & Playing to me is how my full live sets is the way I put my sets together. I find that doing my live sets gives me 100% creative control, its amazing how many possibilities and functionality you have inside your own workstation. But with that it can become quite overwhelming, so its been a really fun challenge making limits for myself to allow myself to grow within those limitations. I've learned a whole new side of Ableton Live that I rarely utilized before and its been a lot of fun to use while writing. Most of the stuff I do live is not recorded and will be played live only 1 time so it makes every set that much more special to me. With DJing your creative possibilities are still incredibly capable, because with 4 decks and effects you can really do some awesome things. My favorite thing to do is run sample loops on one or two decks add some effects, then mix between two tracks and interchange loops in between each song. This little tid bit also adds to a unique vibe to your set to really give you great creative control. So with all that said I'd definitely say I prefer doing live sets now for how special it is to me at the moment but will continue to alternate the use of both in my performances. Tell us about your latest production material? My most recent summer releases have been very Techno & Melodic Progressive House oriented. It’s something I’m really excited to be bringing back onto the table in the scene. These are some of the classic style sounds that initially got me inspired to where I am at today. I've really been diving into a few new synthesizers for all of my latest stuff using a lot of Spire & Diva and I must say these tools are beasts and contribute a great deal to my work. We loved your single "Egyptian Warehouse". What was the vision you had for this record? Initially when I made this track I started with inspiration from a few i_o techno tracks that I was really vibing on and went for the heavy techno aspect from these songs to contrast to a more classic progressive sound. This track has something that really uplifts you to the top of a pyramid with exotic melodies reminiscent of classic progressive house and then drops you straight into a dark warehouse filled with lasers. That's really the concept I wanted to portray with the title of the song as well as the signature sound, its quite a unique piece of music and it holds a special place to me. Now that summer is coming to a close, how was this past season for you? Anything you're looking forward to this fall? This summer has been amazing! It has been filled with sunshine, music, family, friends, parties, gigs & releases! I have an end of summer anthem that's a bit outside of my normal style & sound that I plan to release quite soon. I am working on finalizing a few bits prior to release at the moment. Also the cultural EP I mentioned in my last interview has been pushed out. I won't disclose too much, but I am happy to announce its going to be quite an evolution of my sound, and I will release more info as it creeps closer to being fully wrapped up! I am also happy to say there will be a lot more new music and shows coming on the horizon this fall and there after :) Connect with Clinton Tarantino on social media www.instagram.com/clinton_tarantino
- Self Proclaimed ‘California Country’ Artist Mitch Bradford Blend Genres In “Love Is Kind”
Talented artist Mitch Bradford was born and raised in the small town of Brownsville, Texas. Growing up listening to influences such as Neil Young, Jackson Browne and Joni Mitchell, Bradford was immersed in music from a young age. After leaving his tech job behind to pursue a career in music full time, Mitch moved to Los Angeles. Fusing together his home roots, vintage influences and his newfound West Coast sound, Mitch Bradford developed an authentic ‘California Country’ aesthetic. “Love Is Kind” is a groovy new tune by Mitch Bradford. With undertones of blues and soul, it’s got enough heart to capture the listener's attention throughout. “Love Is Kind” is a flowing journey and a learning process. It’s all about learning that love is patient and “Love Is Kind”. True love requires sacrifice and hard work, but is ultimately worth it. Mitch Bradford's vocals are hypnotizing and alluring. He brings us in with a sweet vocal register and we stay for his sultry grit reciting vulnerable poetry. Overall, “Love Is Kind” is a spectacular single. It’s the title and intro track on Mitch Bradford’s album, which I highly recommend you check out. Stay on the lookout for this incredible artist, Mitch Bradford! Listen to “Love Is Kind” here and read more below in our chat with Mitch! Hi Mitch, welcome to BuzzMusic! How did moving from Brownsville to Los Angeles help shape who you are as an artist? My music is "California Country" so it borrows from the country music of Brownsville and Texas, and the easy-breezy style of Los Angeles. It's a healthy merger of those two genres and both cities have shaped me. I love Los Angeles, but there's still a lot of Texas in me. Can you dive into the lyrics in “Love Is Kind”? It’s a beautiful song and we’d love to hear your inspiration. Thanks. I'm glad you dig it. I think the inspiration is just being in a relationship and maturation. It's about learning why I'm in a relationship and what love is all about. But I am open to interpretations. The songs become their own things. They grow and develop on their own. On their own terms. What do you think is the best trend in country music right now? Trends come and go. I try to do my own thing and stay true to myself. I think the most exciting thing going on is the number of great country bands in Los Angeles right now. There are enough great country bands here in LA to rival Nashville. What’s your live performance and stage presence like? I try to have fun. Live and breathe the songs and stay open to them. The songs are always telling you how they want to be performed. But you have to listen to them. That's what I try to do on stage. People think I'm singing, but I'm listening. What can listeners expect from your album “Love Is Kind”? Some hot jams. There's something on there for everybody -- California country, border songs, ballads, love songs, some punk rock. It's an eclectic record and I think there's a song every one can dig. - Victoria Staff Releases The Mellifulous Single “Violets In My Hair”
Born in Toronto Canada, Victoria Staff taught herself how to play the guitar at the age of 10 in 2008. There was nothing cooler to her than being exactly like Taylor Swift so she spent most of her time after school in choir or musical theater where she would go home and write about almost anything and everything. Thriving off the feeling of performing, she moved out and went to BC for school at the University Of British Columbia. Victoria Staff released her single titled “Violets In My Hair” and this record was delightful, riveting, and had multiple home-like elements to the production of the guitarist. Victoria Staff’s voice is soft, comforting, and highly texturized. It’s a voice you can’t forget and a voice that sticks with you like glue. The atmosphere and detail to the music make this song so amazing and the energy feels so welcoming. It’s like this warm hug that has your energy feeling rejuvenated. The more you listen to “Violets In My Hair” the more attached you become with every aspect of the record. It’s the perfect single for you to get lost in and never want to come back out! Victoria Staff has this special magnificent voice that will certainly leave her listener coming back for more. If you become thoroughly impressed and long for more, try checking out her full-length album titled “The Blue Book Project”. You won’t be disappointed! Listen to “Violets In My Hair” here and get to know more about Victoria Staff below! Thank you for joining us Victoria Staff! We’re happy to have you. You mentioned Taylor Swift as one of your inspirations growing up. What about her and her artistry inspired you as a growing musician? Who are some other influences of yours? I loved Taylor Swift growing up. I didn't really understand why until I was older, but she was unique in that she was a major radio artist and was female. She told stories in her songs, and that was something that inspired me to write. While I'll always appreciate the passion she sparked in me, I wouldn't say she's a huge influence on my music right now. I love the lyrics in Hozier's songs, and am always so inspired by how he can weave themes not only through a song, but a whole album. I've been listening to Jessica Mitchell a lot lately. I heard her open for Johnny Reid in Vancouver and got hooked right away by the way she was able to fill a venue with just her voice and her guitar. Heart of Glass blows my mind every time. I could kind of go on forever though, I was raised on Classic Rock (courtesy of my Dad), but listen to all kinds of music so my influences are kind of all over the place. Janis Joplin, The Eagles, Ingrid Michaelson, Passenger, and Demi Lovato have all contributed to my music career in some way or another. How would you describe your songwriting approach? What’s the method you take when creating the perfect single for you? When it comes to songwriting, lyrics are the most important part. I started songwriting to sort my thoughts out, and that's why I continue writing. It gives me a space to clear my head when all my words seem to come out backwards. It usually starts with a line, whether or not it has a melody, and then I build the song around that idea. I know how I want a song to make me feel, and just work until I get it there. Whether it's the sound that needs tweaking or the words, I just play with it until I can look at the page and feel satisfied. I want to tell stories to people, to capture people with words and music allows me to do that. In what ways did you incorporate these songwriting approaches in making your single “Violets In My Hair”? What was the meaning behind this song? I love Violets in My Hair. I wrote it for my older sister after joining a sorority. I had an incredibly difficult transition into university and joined a sorority to help soften the blow; my sister was a part of the same sorority. For months of first year I wanted to drop out of school, and it wasn't until the second term when I started to feel people rally around me that I realised I had started to find the semblance of a family in Vancouver. I wrote Violets in My Hair really quickly. I had this idea of making a decision and knowing that it was hard, but knowing that it was the right thing. Knowing that right now everything is a mess, but it's on its way to getting better - "And I will build a home in this place that you've brought me". That Vancouver wasn't yet my home but it would be if I gave it time. In what ways does “Violets In My Hair” represent the theme of “The Blue Book Project”? I wanted The Blue Book Project to be all these little bits of my life. I didn't want to touch on the same subject twice, and I wanted it to be a round-about description of my life up until the point of the album's release. Violets in My Hair was all about my plans moving forward from the album. While all the other songs were stories that had beginnings, middles and ends, Violets told a story that wasn't finished yet, which is why it's last on the album. We’re sure this isn’t the last we'll be hearing from you so what are some of your plans as the fall approaches? Mind sharing what we can expect soon? Ahh, "what's next?" is a scary and exciting question. As the fall approaches I'll be back in Vancouver performing shows at my favourite venues. I am planning on releasing new songs to YouTube as well before the year is over, to follow the two songs I put out on YouTube earlier in the year. I am looking at recording more music in the near future, but as to what and when is still a bit up in the air. I love my new music, I'm so proud of it and I feel it's not only more mature but more representative of me as a person. It has a bit more personality. I'm so excited to share it, and I play a lot of it live, so if you're looking to hear it feel free to come see my shows! Connect with Victoria Staff on social media www.instagram.com/victoria_staff
- INTERVIEW: Overflow!
What's up Overflow! we're glad to have you here on our Buzzmusic platform. Mind telling our readers a bit about your background and upbringing? I was brought up in a household where no one played an instrument. I have the only musical bone of my family. My sister’s always had a creative side to them though but these days, who is able to fight through the wrath of your parents wanting you to do something that “makes money”. But since I had the opportunity to go off to boarding school, I had a lot of time to find the type of person I wanted to be and the life I wanted to live. Since I was 15, I knew that I wanted to pursue music as a career and it wasn’t until I was 19 that I had the strength to carry through with it. I started producing when I was 17 and I got addicted to it. I actually didn’t have that much care about HipHop music until I took a class in college called “Performance of Hip-hop”. That's when I was able to start and create raps and find my own voice. Then I reached out to some venues that put together artists line ups and I started to perform! “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” My life has dramatically changed and now I’ve found the happiness that I’ve been looking for. What or who would you consider one of your main inspirations for music and why? When I make music, I do it with an end goal in mind. What do I want to make and what impact will it have? The message needs to be there or I have trouble writing. I always believed that I should only speak when I have something of worth to say, that way I will have created something thought-provoking or meaningful. Now my music isn’t always something really deep like “Brasil” but it has an intended purpose and affects. So when I make music, I look toward those who have said the message I tried to convey the message the best, be it Rapper, Poet, or someone else that has influenced me. In the rapper realm, some of my inspirations are A Tribe Called Quest, Capital Steez, Kendrick Lamar, JPEGMAFIA. This group because they either are able to bring an energy level that I want to have in my music or can ask the thought-provoking questions that I wrestle with myself. When it comes to creativity, I have to give a nod to the Drum and Bass scene. I spent a lot of my time listening to the people that make Dn’B in Europe and they have taught me that the only limit on the sounds you can create is your imagination. Big ups to Noisia, Reso, Halogenix, Ivy Lab and all the others that have participated in the culture. Let's talk about your single "Brasil". where did you draw most of your inspiration from for this song? The song came from the want to make something that belonged to the summer. There are a lot of “Summertime Hits” but I wanted to bring influence from other cultures. That why I thought it would be perfect to bring in Bossa Nova samples into this new song. As a Jazz musician as well, I’ve been playing Bossa Nova songs for some time and I thought this would be the perfect opportunities to fuse 2 worlds. So this song is probably my most surface valued song. Just a good time with life. Enjoy the good times while they last. Let's talk about this upcoming album of yours. What can we expect from this project? what are some challenges you faced in creating this? You can expect flows never heard of and styles you never knew existed until the vibrations of sound have hit your soul. I plan on bringing out my raunchy and “Give no fucks” attitude and a very reflective and introspective tone as well. I’ve been curating what I've wanted this album to be so I’ve taken careful time and meticulously picked which songs will be on the album. The hardest challenge I’ve had to face when creating this album is answering the question “How do I want to present myself to the world?” So picking the songs that I want to have described me is very difficult but my vision is clear and we’ve found the answer. What is the impact you hope this upcoming album leaves behind on its listener? I hope that people can find the strength to be themselves. People talk about being yourself all the time but don't really understand the courage it takes to do so. Coming to terms that everyone won't like you is hard, but you’ll live a much happier and fulfilled life. I also want people to digest some of the messages that I’m going to give. I have a particular song that’s a story of a woman that has been the victim of toxic masculinity and how toxic masculinity affects men as well. I hope men are able to listen to that song and check themselves and see why they might feel a certain way about women and what is health. What most men don’t realize is that we’ve created this social norm that men have to be strong and carry the burden of everyone around his or he’ll be emasculated. He can’t show emotion or he’s weak and he has to hit on women or he’s a pussy. That shit has got to stop. It’s tiring as fuck and it helps no one. So I want to free some men from this curse of toxic masculinity and realize his own worth. What's next for you? Same as always, become a better artist, uncover the truths of this world, have a fun time with friends, spend my time with loved ones.
