- POSEY Put Her Heart On Display In Brand New Track “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night”
Bianca Posey, better known by her professional name POSEY, is an up and coming singer/songwriter and gifted multi-instrumentalist. She had a natural talent for music since she was young. Before diving into her professional music career as the lead guitarist for indie electro pop band BEGINNERS, Biana learned to play classical piano at age 5, learned to play guitar at age 10, and was playing bass by 15. By 19 years old, POSEY tried her hand at music production and was, of course, a natural. She attended ICON Collective Music Production School, where she graduated in 2017. Bianca now writes, produces, sings and mixes all of her own songs. “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night” is a hauntingly catchy pop track laced with electronic, rock and urban sound arrangements. POSEY pours her heart and soul into her lyricism and production quality and it’s so evident throughout “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night”. The undertones of funky guitar provide a refreshing twist to the indie-pop track. POSEY has established her craft from the ground up and she fully showcases her multiple skills in “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night”. The lyrics tell a story of someone telling lies in order to cope with reality. I love the vulnerability and innocence in POSEY’s voice, her tone is somewhat soft but it comes off as the perfect dueling opposite to the hard hitting sonics. Overall I recommend you check out this track and stay connected with POSEY to see what she delivers next! Check out “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Bianca! Thanks for chatting with us! Can you tell us more about your upbringing and what made you so musically inclined? Hey! Well to start things off I grew up in Orange County, CA and have been playing music ever since I can remember. My mom put me in classical piano lessons around age 5 and then around age 10 I had this like undying passion to learn how to play guitar so I started teaching myself from Youtube videos and stuff and was instantly hooked. It was like this little escape I felt like I had from the outside world where I could be as open and vulnerable with myself as possible and nobody could take that away from me. As the years went on, I taught myself bass and drums and it was the most fun I had ever had, but also I didn’t know a ton of people to play with at the time and no one really wanted to play the kind of music I wanted to play. I was in a bunch of different bands growing up, ranging from punk to folk to rock but none of them were really my vibe. That’s pretty much how I got into producing. I wanted to be able to put all of my ideas together instead of taking directions from someone else. Who are your musical influences? How do you pull inspiration from them? It’s kind of funny because my absolute favorite band has been No Doubt since I was like 8, but I don’t really make the same kind of music as them at all. Gwen Stefani is the baddest bitch out there and she influenced me a ton growing up. My parents got me super into music from the 60s and 70s when I was a kid like The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and Fleetwood Mac. I also absolutely love Amy Winehouse and Florence + the Machine- stuff that really makes you feel. At this point pretty much any genre of music can influence me. Doesn’t matter who its by or what type it is, if it makes me feel something then that artist was successful in whatever they were trying to portray. A good song is a good song, ya know? What is the meaning behind the lyrics in “Whatever Helps U Sleep At Night”? What do you want your listeners to take away from this song? This song means a lot to me. I wrote it about my ex girlfriend after we broke up last year. It was one of the most painful breakups I’ve ever gone through. We had a super passionate relationship and when it was good, it was so good it was almost too good to be true but when it was bad, it was a nightmare. Towards the end of the relationship we were both in different stages of our lives and I think that caused a lot of tension and led us to get in really stupid arguments and I felt like no matter what, somehow everything always ended up being my fault. I wrote this song about how she would rather walk away from everything with her pride still in tact and act like she’s fine than admit she ever did anything wrong. Looking back, I would’ve done a million things differently but ya live and ya learn, right? Hindsight really is 20/20. I’m hoping this song will be relatable to a lot of people who have gone through the same thing. Are you still making music with the group BEGINNERS? Hell yeah!! We’re playing UMS festival in Denver at the end of the month. Me and the lead singer Sam Barbera have been writing a lot together so expect a bunch of new music coming out from us soon too. What's next for you POSEY? I’ve been working really hard on a ton of new material over the past few years and I’m getting ready to finally start releasing it all so you’ll be hearing a lot more from me very soon. Also I’ll be playing a show at Echo Park Rising in LA in August! Keep up with Bianca Posey through her socials! - Rock Duo Duke Evers Is Dropping Tight Grooves In New Anthem “Duster”
Seattle based rock duo Duke Evers (a moniker pinched from an intriguing character in the Rocky trilogy) is comprised of Kyle and Josh, two up and coming musicians. When the chatter of the music biz got a little two loud, they did what they do best and simply turned up the amps and pounded a little harder on the drums. Kyle and Josh claim that they can’t please the suits if they can’t hear their pleas. This exhilarating outburst against the industry is captured on Duke Evers’ sophomore album, “Dreams And Desires That Are Common To Youth”. “Duster” is an eclectic and spunky new track off of the duo’s sophomore album “Dreams And Desires That Are Common To Youth”. With an infectiously catchy melody, tight grooves, pummelling guitar and dreamy vocals to blow your mind, Duke Evers’ track “Duster” is a rock hit. “Duster” exudes the high energy and authentic sounds that Duke Evers is known for. The rhythmic textures fused with the light-hearted lyricism take the listener on a journey through the new-age sound. Duke Evers has established their craft from the ground up. They make music that’s relatable for their listeners but is original and true to themselves. I highly recommend you check out “Duster” and the entire album “Dreams And Desires That Are Common To Youth”. Listen to “Duster” here and read more with Duke Evers in our exclusive interview below! Hello Kyle and Josh! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did Duke Evers come to fruition? How did you two meet? Kyle placed an ad in Craigslist for a roommate. We were both musicians but played in different bands and one night starting jamming in the living room. The rest is history. What’s your writing process like together? It's an organic process. We rehearse 5 nights a week so I'll take ideas I've had during the day or week and we'll just start putting parts together until we get to something we like. What’s the meaning behind your track “Duster”? What inspired it? Duster is about a vintage classic car. What challenges have you faced as up and coming artists? How do you overcome these challenges? At the start of our careers, we thought about "making it" a lot. We dreamed of a label signing, big record deals and living the rock star life. As we've had success and even label contracts, what is most important to us now is owning our own music. We've learned through this process how quickly our art can be taken away from us and our fans. What overall theme do you hope your listeners take away from your album “Dreams And Desires That Are Common To Youth”? Fun. We want our fans and the people who listen to this album to hear the fun we had making this record. We allowed ourselves to create exactly what we wanted for the first time. - Check Out The New Groovy Jam “Bloody Good” By The Henchmen
Baltimore natives and a funky six-piece collective, The Henchmen are laying down tight grooves, catchy hooks and pride themselves on their intense live performances. Comprised of Kevin Hock (Vocals, Organ, Guitar), Megan Leigh (Vocals), Jim Matusky (Bass), Jimmy Nicholas (Lead Guitar) Nick Heflin (Drums) and Adam Green (Saxophone), The Henchmen’s new single "Bloody Good" raced to the milestone of 4,000 streams on Spotify in just under 10 days. The additions of Megan Leigh on backing vocals and Adam Green on Saxophone are the icing on the cake of the hard grooving hook parade. “Bloody Good” by The Henchmen is exactly the groovy tune the music industry needed. A rock anthem laced with emotion, heart and soul, “Bloody Good” talks about an irresistible love. “I shouldn’t have loved you… But it feels so Bloody Good” expertly proves the overall theme. Stepping out of the grunge and grit of their passed singles, “Bloody Good” is a smooth and clean sound. The female back-up vocals that Megan provides add the perfect emotions to an already incredible song. The dueling components of the male and females energy going back and forth make the message of the track much more powerful. The catchy jam “Bloody Good” had me toe-tapping along throughout. I enjoyed every bit of the track and I think you will too! Check out “Bloody Good” here and read more below in our exclusive interview. Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did The Henchmen come to fruition? Kevin: Thanks for having us, BM. Most of us had been in different bands around Baltimore for years. There's a blossoming underrated music scene here. This time around our main agenda was for the band experience to be one huge party, while releasing new music every year. So many independent bands coast by on one release for years. That's not interesting to me. What is the meaning behind the lyrics in “Bloody Good”? What was the writing process like for this song? Kevin: That would be the UK meaning of "Bloody", mate. Haha. Lyrically, the song is about knowing you're going down a questionable romantic path, but being unwillingly drawn to it none the less. Love and attraction can be intoxicating in that way. It seems to defy all reason at times. I'm a super lucky man in regards to my love life, so I drew largely on past experiences and imagination to flesh out the content. As far as the music, Matusky gift wrapped a beautiful groove and brought it to practice. Matusky: Yeah, you're welcome. This was Jimmy's first time writing with us, and we really loved what he brought to the table. We were already looking for a cleaner, room vibe on this one. His tone and bluesy demeanor fit in nicely. Kevin: Definitely. This was also Megan Leigh's first time in the studio with us, and I love how her vocals contrast mine. She was a total pro in there. Adam Green on Saxophone was the cherry on top. Dude wails on that thing. Who are some of your musical influences and how do they inspire your sound? Kevin: Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell's Motown era duet records are my current favorites. They are both classic from front to back. Pure joy sonically given through music. It certainly inspired me to try and be more soulful, and to give Megan as many parts as she wanted. We also love St. Paul & The Broken Bones, Electric Light Orchestra, Lake Street Dive. Can you describe your stage presence for someone who has never seen you live before? Megan: It's always a party. Matusky: We always bring every ounce of energy we can muster for these people. This is the moment I live for. I can't wait to be up there. Kevin: I feel the same way. I've always loved adding a taste of drama to things as well. This is theater to me. If we can do that without taking our stage personas too seriously, that's on goal. I still want to be a guy being himself and having a blast up there. What’s next for The Henchmen? Kevin: New music! New music! New music! We are inspired by the early response to Bloody Good. We're planning to release several more singles this year. New tunes are coming, as well as a "Saxy Accordion" remix that we've all been dying to do. Keep up with The Henchmen! - R&B Artist C.P. Drops Smooth Sensual Track “Tell Me How”
Charles Caldwell, better known by his professional name C.P. is a contemporary R&B/Hip-Hop artist that was born in Harlem but primarily raised in the Bronx. As a child, he was one of the highest-paid child models which unfortunately came to a crashing halt at the age of 6 years old. He suffered 3rd degree burns over 85 percent of his body shattering dreams. However, his craving for self-expression was strong and his passion for music emerged from its hiding place. Dealing with racism and prejudice in high school, C.P. once again persevered and made the most of his trials and tribulations. “I poured myself into writing poetry and songs, performing open mic/talent showcases,” said C.P. “I used the raw emotions of my life experiences to communicate my sentiments honestly— my music became my healing balm and I applied it to all the wounds of life.” “Music is my passion and my passion runs deep within my soul. Without music I would not be the person I am—this isn’t a job for me it is a way of life.” - Charles Caldwell Charles Caldwell’s single titled “Tell Me How” is a smooth fusion between R&B and contemporary hip-hop. We love the sensual and hard-hitting lyricism that C.P. exudes. His confident and seductive vocals weave through every element of the track and we can’t get enough! Since it’s release, “Tell Me How” has seen nothing but success and streams around the globe. C.P curates hits that his fans can easily relate to and that’s an extremely admirable quality for an up and coming artist to have. I highly recommend you check out C.P.’s track “Tell Me How” and stay on the lookout for C.P. and his future musical endeavors! Listen to “Tell Me How” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey Charles! Can you tell our readers more about your upbringing into making music? The origin of me making music started with listening to music as a child as my mom cleaned the house, leveled up in middle school, where I started writing poems and performing, then to semi-pro in college, which then flourished into a professional career and business in 2009 How does your past affect your songwriting styles today? My past makes me write from my heart and stay genuine to what I know instead of embellishing at all. Everything I write is first or second hand experiences, whether it’s my own or someone close to me What’s the main theme of your track “Tell Me How”? Sex lol. I can try to make it sound as nice as possible but the main theme of the song is sexual confidence and swag. In short, going out with the intentions to find someone to go home and have fun with and leaves them pleased as best as possible What emotions did you channel when writing this track? Well the older I’m getting, I’m getting much more comfortable talking about my past sexual encounters. So I just took bits and pieces of myself and put my bachelor life in the song. Not everything but just enough to make a great song What’s next for you C.P.? Well along with my deal with Touch Music Group, I will have a gang load of material flying off for the rest of the year. Whether it’s solo, features, or group stuff,, C.P. will be pumping through many stereos moving forward. So stay tuned and watch me work. Noreik Thascool) here and check out the high energy music video and our exclusive interview below! Hey H.F.P. Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourselves and how you got started as a collective? DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”: Wud up, wud up world!? I’m DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL,” 1/3 of the mighty, mighty Honor Flow Productions based out of Los Angeles, CA and I’m a Producer/MC/DJ. Honor Flow Productions as a group has been putting in work and paying dues since 2006. During my senior year of high school, I started teach myself how to record and produce. This led to the initial free for all of inviting my homies over to my make shift bedroom studio to lay down tracks. This is how H.F.P. began to form as a group. As I graduated from high school, I started to realize that music was what I wanted to do with my life and as fate would have it, I would meet many people during my collegiate years that would share that same passion. Two of those people would be ELIMN8 during my two years at Marymount College and DJisLORD as I transferred to Loyola Marymount University. ELIMN8: I am emcee ELIMN8 of Honor Flow Productions; 1/3 of our trio. I got started with H.F.P. in the formative years at Marymount college, back in 2006. Initially, H.F.P. was kind of a loose collection of people before we became what we are today. I like to think I proved myself by being the person you couldn’t get rid of, and who just liked being around [laughs]. I always did Hip-Hop, but took it much more seriously once I met DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”. Funny enough, he was the first friend I made in our freshman orientation group. It’s natural to gravitate towards the other Black people when they're not aren’t that many of you [laughs]. The rest is history. DJisLORD: I am DJisLORD, 1/3 of H.F.P. and the sonic backbone of the group as the DJ. I met DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL” when we both transferred Loyola Marymount University the fall of 2008. A year after we became friends, I was approached by the Chuck to join H.F.P. as they were competing in a Battle of The Bands competition on campus. Their drummer was unavailable, so I stepped in as their DJ and we won! I’ve been part of group ever since. I ended up meeting ELIMN8 a couple months later when H.F.P. had our first show at The Roxy on Sunset Blvd. DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”: I remember at that time, ELIMN8 was finishing up college in the Bay Area and flew down just for that show. That was an important moment for this group because one, it was our first real show at historic venue with legit sound, a legit stage, and we made some money off it [laughs]. And two, that was the first time members of all the “eras” of H.F.P. has been in the same room and performed; from my high school years through my college years. It was family reunion/introduction [laughs]. It is mind blogging to me that this show took place a decade ago this coming December and set in motion the next decade of our elevation. How did the name Honor Flow Productions come to fruition? ELIMN8: That’s something I’ll default to Chuck on. He started everything in the long long ago. DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”: The origins of the name Honor Flow Productions dates back to 2003, during my sophomore year at Loyola High School. This is when I received my first DJ rig and started spinning house parties, family functions and any gig I could get. For this one house party I was going throw with my friend DJ Kryp2nite, I felt like we needed a presenters name on the flyer and not just our DJ names. That’s when I came up with the name Honor Flow, playing off the high caliber honor roll student. Honor Flow represents the highest quality whatever we put our hands on from us as a band, as DJs, as producers, and everything else in between. DJisLORD: Henceforth being honorable, being the best and staying true to the art form. Let’s talk about your track “Elevation”! What inspired this song and what was the writing process like together? ELIMN8: To understand “Elevation,” one needs to know the theme of The B.L.A.C.K. Odyssey; which is Freedom. At least on my bars for “Elevation,” I wanted to touch on the experience of many Black people in this country. After all, with the high profile killings of unarmed people, the media at least does a good job of constantly keeping it in focus. I’m disturbed by what I see (reaction, commentary, response, etc). I remember initially hearing that Chuck made the beat for someone else. After pushing back and saying that we needed to keep this beat, I heard the phrase “All lives can’t matter unless the Black ones do too.” on TV. It was one of the moments that clicked, and I knew the direction I wanted to go in for my part. DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”: As ELIMN8 said, “Elevation” was originally not our record. I originally made it for the guest MC on the track, Noreik Thascool. It was going to be for his then upcoming album. Fun fact, the working title for the beat was “A Tribe Called West.” The large breakbeat, baseline, and guitar riff reminded me of something A Tribe Called Quest would have made during the “Midnight Marauders” sessions. The vocal chop reminded of something Kanye West would have chopped up in his beats around 2007-2010. Producers tend to save beats by inspiration, vibe, or something random so they can just save it and not lose beat if your computer crashes [laughs]. The danger of being a producer in group is when you make a beat to pitch to another artists, and then your group mates fall in love with the track, they will give you hell for give it away [laughs]. I am not one to give something and then ask for it back, but ELIMN8 was so adamant that we needed this beat for The B.L.A.C.K. Odyssey, that I decided to broker an agreement with Noreik to see if we can have the song on both our albums. Ya know, that common practice that happened a lot in 90s-early 2000s when a big collaborative song would happen. He down with it and we recorded the record a couple months after that. Noreik ended up not using for his album and it became fully ours. So in the end, it worked out [laughs]. Lyrically, not only does my verse coincide with the “freedom” concept of the album, but it is also serves as me personal affirmation that the decisions I have made for my career and my life since I was 18 were the right ones. At the end of the day, you never go wrong with listening to your gut instinct. Every time I’ve done that, things have turned out well. So the record is about trusting in yourself to “elevate” to that next level professional, personally, mentally, and spiritually. The session with Noreik to record his verse was an excellent example of why working in the same room verses working via file sharing always is the best. The content of his verse was the result of a 3 hour conversation he, ELIMN8, and myself had before I even pressed record. As matter of fact, the “Lemonade” line is a result of me giving him a cup a lemonade to drink while writing and him accidentally spilling in my studio [laughs]. DJisLORD: I speak with my hands as a good DJ should [laughs]. On “Elevation,” as with entirety of The B.L.A.C.K. Odyssey, my contribution were the DJ scratches, sample drops, adlibs, and any additional vocals needed. We love your authentic sound! Do you have any specific musical influences you pull inspiration from? DJisLORD: I pull from so many different influences from different genres as a DJ. Anywhere from Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Funk, Disco, 80s freestyle, Jazz, Reggae, Dancehall, Metal, Punk Rock, and New Wave. ELIMN8: Man! My influences are all over the place. I’ve always had a big connection to Hip- Hop. When I was born, I had really bad hearing thank to inflammation. Thanks to my oldest sister, one of the first songs I remember was LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out.” She got me started on all my favorites. Also, my cousin is Rakaa from Dilated Peoples. Just being a fan of their music, put me onto a lot of other dope Hip-Hop acts. Punk also has a big place in my heart when I go back to my skateboarding days. I wore out Misfits, Dead Kennedys, and Rancid. I also love Jazz, and just anything that sounds good. DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”: I’m the absolute worst at this question because it will become a list the size of an essay [laugh]. But I’ll try my best to keep it short. Because of all 3 of us are music heads and both Lord and I are DJs, we’re always digging and listening to everything. Some of my favorite Hip-Hop artists past and present re A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, De La Soul, Common, Little Brother, Slum Village, Black Milk, Gang Starr, Big K.R.I.T, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Quik and Outkast. But as anyone who as rode in my car will tell you, the mood can go from Hip-Hop to various eras of R&B/Soul (D’Angelo, Maxwell, Raphael Saadiq, Anderson. Paak,The Internet), Rock (Royal Blood, TV On The Radio, Gold Fields, Bloc Party, Phantogram, Foo Fighters, Phoenix, Linkin Park, Incubus, The Police), House (Disclosure, Kaytranada, SG Lewis, Calvin Harris), Funk (George Clinton, Prince, Dam-Funk, Chromeo), to Pop (Michael and Janet Jackson, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake) just the name a few. Our influences come from various genres and eras. With all those inspirations, a term we coined for our approach to our music is “Progressive Nostalgia;” which is sampling what we love from the past, mixing it with the contemporary, and flipping it for the future. We are proud offsprings of our influences, but we understand we have to carve our lane as well. What’s next for Honor Flow Productions? ELIMN8: Global domination [Laughs]! No joke! But seriously, I am happy to say we’re going to be touring in Japan at the end of July! I lived in Joso Ibaraki a few years ago, and it’s a big deal that we’re getting our first international start there. We’re getting things setup for after Japan, but Japan is the focus right now! DJisLORD: It's a 3 city, 5 show tour. First we start in Kobe, then Osaka, then we finish strong in Tokyo. DJ Chuck “thE oLd SouL”: The tour in Japan is one my proudestmoments since the inception of H.F.P; and we had some amazing moments in the 13 year history of this group. The legendary artists and prestigious venues we have honor of playing at/with as a group and as DJs at such as The Greek Theater, The El Rey, The Troubadour, and The Roxy. Then the release of The B.L.A.C.K. Odyssey, becoming an in-progress breakthrough album for us are two that come to mind immediately. But it was ALWAYS a goal for us to travel all over the world and perform. Hip-Hop is a global phenomenon and I wanted to experience theculture and the world in general as an ambassador for it. This music changed my life and myhometown of Los Angeles gave me life. So with that, I want to share our music and culture tothe world in a foreign exchange student scenario. I want the world to experience Honor Flow Productions. We’re homegrown L.A. to the bone but for us to expand, we have to get out, go get something, and bring it back. We plan on building bridges with this tour that will take us to other continents. I recently traveled out the country for the first time to France last month as part of the Mix With The Masters seminar program; with a pitstop in London. And being out there only solidified what we’ve talking about doing as a group for years, and that’s breaking through the international market. This “Summer of Elevation” is only step one of this. Annnddd… stay tuned for some other secret stuff. Because while we move in silence and don’t broadcast all our moves, do know we are always up to something. Can you start by introducing yourself to our readers? How did you know you wanted to start making music? What’s up! I’m a hip hop artist by the name of JordanLivinGood, and I’m artist located in Austin. One day, my was making music in my room, so I asked him a question about making songs as a joke, and he told me “Sure!”.So, When I made my first song is was the feeling of love at first sight. “Party All The Time” is a dope track! What inspired it? Austin is a college town and a city that’s big on electronic music and hip hop at parties, so I wanted to make a blend between the two genres of how it’s like to party on 6st. What’s the hip-hop music scene like in your hometown? It’s a small community that’s growing, but we support everyone. I think Austin will be the next big Hip Hop city in a few years. What’s your writing process like? When I’m writing a song I try to paint out the imagery in my head. The first thing I write for songs are hooks, so I know what direction I want the song to be in. The best place I like to write is in my bedroom, because I can really focus in there. Who are your musical influences and how do they inspire you? Drake is my favorite artist, and he inspires me that you can have a lot of haters but still be on top. My second biggest influence is Pimp C and he was always just the flyest rapper to me when he was alive. Juicy J is another influence when it comes to making turn up music, because he’s been making hits longer than I’ve been alive. - Bo Baskoro Drops His Healing New Single “Levee”
Portland, Oregan based singer/songwriter Bo Baskoro is an authentic and talented artist. Equipped with an individuality that sets him apart from other artist, Bo Baskoro is an admirable and inspiring representation to galvanize the music industry today. After the release of his single “The Woman” in the winter of 2016, Bo Baskoro gained an ever-growing following and landed in multiple Spotify playlists. After collaborating with Maxwell House during a recovery from a labral tear and tumor surgery, Bo Bakoro raised more ears as he shared his endeavors while still writing and playing music. Out now is Bo Baskoro’s empowering new single “Levee” and we can’t get enough! He weaves through storytelling elements of his trials and tribulations and scars. He knows that what he’s been through only makes him stronger and he wants to spread that message through “Levee”. This track focuses on washing away whatever struggles you are facing and treat it as a new beginning. We love the pop/electronic chill vibes that “Levee” exudes. It’s a catchy pop hit with heavy subject matter to grab listeners attention. The high energy and confidence that Bo Baskoro boasts is admirable and mesmerizing. This track is going to make waves in the music industry and really make a name for Bo Baskoro! We can’t wait to see what he delivers next! Listen to “Levee” here and read more below in our exclusive interview. Hey Bo Baskoro! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you tell us more about your upbringing and how you got started in music? Ya! It was more or less a bit random. I didn’t ever think I’d actually be doing music, I was originally gonna be a martial arts instructor haha. But then I was watching an episode of Smallville where Lana Lang and Clark Kent broke up, and while Lana was driving down this dirt road the song, ‘Where I stood’ by Missy Higgins was playing and I was like “Wow, this is really sad… I wanna make people sad”. For some reason, that was the trigger to get me to want to start writing music. We love your track “Levee”, it’s very inspiring. What emotions did you channel in order to write this piece? Dude, thank you so much. I really wanted this song to start with that eerie sort of dark feeling because the idea was that I’ve got so much baggage and ghosts from all these stupid things I’ve done and experienced in my history that it’s left me jaded and a bit broody. But I really wanted to dive into the concept of hope and celebration, the song is supposed to be the switch in my brain that decides that I have control of how I live and how I respond to anything and overall just a celebration of washing away all of the baggage and history and negativity I’ve dragged along throughout the years. Can you dive into the meaning behind your lyricism in “Levee”? Levee, came from the idea of finding that one thing or that one person that changes the way you see yourself and the way you live. You become aware of the bad habits and unhealthy escapes you’ve been dragging around all your life and now have the opportunity to wash it all away. Do you have any musical influences that inspire your music? How so? Oh man, a ton. I think Jack Garratt and Jack Antonoff are my all time favorite writers and producers. The sounds they come up with and the small details have quite literally changed my life. I had the privilege of being mentored by Denny White in LA for a while and he really changed the way I write and see lyrics. Most of the time when I’m writing about the same thing everyone else has already written about, I always hear Denny’s voice in my head saying, “Dude, it’s about saying the same thing but different”. Now it’s almost annoying because anytime I try to write a line that’s too basic I won’t sleep until I find another way to say it. But I think it’s also a good standard to set me apart, at least I hope! What’s next for you, Bo Baskoro? That’s a really good question. The last few years I’d been kind of going in circles with releasing a single, celebrating, marketing myself, pitching myself as an opening act to LITERALLY EVERY ARTIST COMING THROUGH, rinse and repeat. This year I really want to make new moves. I just signed with Far Out Entertainment which to me felt like the right move. I’m really excited to see where that takes me because that team is super encouraging, genuinely believes in my work and we’re already brainstorming for the next year. That’s the thing about me is I love getting creative with the marketing just as much as the music, ‘How do we make me look way more legit than I am?’, ‘How do we stand out?’ , ‘How do we get weird in the most tasteful way?’. I’m really excited to have another hand in the kitchen with this gig so now we’re just adding to the team and putting more creative heads together to cook up some new moves! - You Have Check Out The New Indie Sound In “Peace And Quiet” By AntiSocial Surf Club
Formed in 2017, AntiSocial Surf Club is the product of the four members failed high school bands. Comprised of brothers Matt (vocals/guitar) and Nick (drums) and friends Dan (bass) and Bennett (guitar) the alternative indie four-piece is making a name for themselves through their finely-calibrated tight grooves and diverse influences. AntiSocial Surf Club can be described as a matured punk-rock sound. They recently released their third EP "Peace and Quiet" which has impressively gotten airplay on over 80 stations in Canada and the US. The new EP is inspired by the musical endeavors of AntiSocial Surf Club. The namesake on the EP, “Peace and Quiet” boasts old school beachy vibes fused with contemporary indie rock. This track focuses on the highs and lows of being young. Not wanting to waste time becoming someone you’re not and also learning to let go and just enjoy life. I think AntiSocial Surf Club write music that their fans can interpret however they see fit. It’s an admirable quality for artists to create music that forms connections with their listeners. The pummeling guitar, hard-hitting bass, and heavy drums fuse perfectly with Matt’s rock n roll vocals. The powerful track is suitable for anyone to listen to. I can’t wait to blast this tune in my car with the windows down and recommend you do the same thing! Keep up with AntiSocial Surf Club's for all of their future endeavors! Check out “Peace and Quiet” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hey guys! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us more about how AntiSocial Surf Club came to fruition? Well it all started when Matt wanted to be a rockstar. He conned his brother, Nick, into playing drums in a bunch of bands until eventually they settled down with their high school friend Bennett on lead guitar. Dan the Bass Player Guy is the most recent addition to the band, and was found on the internet. Currently working on the perfect blend of Indie and Punk What’s the meaning behind the stage name? Mostly, it’s just a funny oxymoron. Clubs are the opposite of AntiSocial. And “Surf" is in there because we love beach rock and want people to think we can surf. We love your track “Peace and Quiet”! What do you hope your listeners take away from it? Peace and Quiet was written over the course of a few years, starting when I dropped out of University to pursue nothing in general. It was a sort of coming-of-age period of my life where I had to get a ‘real job’ and all that. A lot of the lyrics are based on fucking up while learning no lessons, and we tried to match that to a light, carefree feel. What’s the overall theme of your new EP “Peace and Quiet”? All 3 songs are about just doing what you do. When I wrote “Dancing Alone” I had this vivid memory of my the bar being completely empty, leaving a handful of us on the dance floor at 3 in the morning. "25 and Sunny" as well as "Peace and Quiet" were much the same, I focused on these little quirks and joys that felt kind of meaningless at the time but seemed to stick in my mind. What’s your writing process like as a group? It usually starts with a song in it’s barest form (just a melody with some lyrics or a guitar riff) that gets brought forward and then as a band we jam it out a few times and mix it around until it really starts to groove, and if it doesn’t it gets scrapped or set on the back burner for a while until we can approach it with a fresh mind.
