  • Listen To The Soulful Vocals From Zaxai In “Find Me Here”

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Zaxai is one of the most talented and successful singer/songwriter/guitarist to grace us with his music. Born of Haitian descent, Zaxai pulls inspiration from his diverse upbringing, cultures he encountered and authentic life experiences. Since the age of 12, Zaxai began singing in church. It’s there he credits his foundation in his faith and musicality. He began playing the acoustic guitar at the age of 14. It was then, Zaxai knew he wanted to be an artist. When you go to a Zaxai show you will leave feeling uplifted. His captivating energy will make it feel as if it only you in the room. That energy is what brought Zaxai to the Top 24 of season 15 of “NBC The Voice”, where both Kelly Clarkson  and Jennifer Hudson fought over him to gain a spot on both their teams. In Kelly's words, “Your voice is just soulful and your runs, they’re just so precise....you’re just, smooth”. In the words of Jennifer, “You look seasoned, you’re ready.” Currently touring records off his latest EP “Too Far Gone” Zaxai has his foot on the gas pedal and is showing no signs of slowing down. One of Zaxai’s successful singles titled “Find Me Here” is a beautiful love ballad packed with emotive lyricism and soul. Zaxai true energy shines through the speakers as he puts his heart on display. Whether he’s serenading the love of his life, or sending his thoughts to a lost loved one, “Find Me Here” can be interpreted in many ways. One of Zaxai’s admirable skills is curating music that resonates with listeners and allows them to relate his words back to their own life. I recommend you check out “Find Me Here” and keep up with Zaxai! Check out “Find Me Here” here, and keep scrolling for our interview with Zaxai! Hey Zaxai! Welcome to BuzzMusic! We love your song “Find Me Here”. Can you go into more detail on the meaning of the lyrics? Well the lyrics are about hope! It’s about all the obstacles one might face when he/she knows they’re losing the one they love. No matter what though, once you’ve made up your mind that you’ll fight for something’s you’ll do it. It’s about dropping all your guards and confessing what that person means. All in all, finding each other where they are in life and meeting each other there. That way, they can work it out. What inspired this track? What inspired the record was a mix. I was engaged to my then best friend and it didn’t work out. I then had feelings for another person out who lived really far from me. So it was a blend of familiar emotions, and this constant reoccurring theme, I felt in my life, where the person I want or love has second thoughts. How do you feed your passion for music everyday? Well I’m an indie artist who sings for weddings and events for a living. There isn’t a moment where I’m not singing or learning music. I’m also a major fan of music across genres and cultures. Everyday is a different mood. I could be into Afro beat one day or Haitian Kompa one day or soft rock and country the next. It’s my escape.  Even while on NBC The Voice, where I should be listening to the song I’m going to perform, I often have to escape so as not to lose those creative juices and feed creativity and that passion! If not, it becomes a job and I’m no longer passionate about it. Who are your musical influences and how do you pull inspiration from them for your songs? If we’re talking the past, Michael Jackson is number 1 hands down and his contemporaries around genres of music IE: The Bee Gees, Bryan Adams, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire etc. If we’re talking current; John legend is number 1. Next would be Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Timbaland, Pharrell. These are all masters of music! Master writers, master producers, masters of the energy music emits! I’m a firm believer that music is more than melody. It’s magic! I don’t care if it’s a pop song, I can feel the passion and excitement they had creating a record. You can hear it in the details. I try and put that same mastery and attention to my music. That would be a sin not too. What are you working on currently? I’m currently a freelance musician touring with my team “Zaxai & The Band Date Night. Recently, I’ve settled down a bit and work under an events agency called “On the Move” entertainment. Aside from that, I sing with a Russian. Eastern European Band at Baku Palace in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn as well as am part of a Haitian American band named, “IET”. Give a listen to "Yes Mama" here, and continue reading for Missy D's exclusive interview! Hey Missy D! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Tell our readers a bit about yourself as an artist! My name is Missy D and I am a Hip-Hop, Rap & Soul artist based in Vancouver BC. I am a child of the African Diaspora hailing from Rwanda, Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe. I've been making music since I was 11 in both French and English. My music is a blended sound of old and new school, rap and neo-soul with a message of hope and strength for marginalized communities. Music is powerful and necessary for my own therapy but also for my community! What motivated you to write your track "Yes Mama"? Did you feel that the message you integrated within the song was easily portrayed to listeners? It took a village to raise Missy D from the Motherland to the Coast Salish Territories (Vancouver, BC) Yes Mama is a new anthem dedicated to Mama D, the Motherland, Mama Earth, all our Mamas, our angels and our community Mamas. A summer jam blessed with a special meaning and feature. Missy D is back in 2019 to unpack all the feelings, all the pauses, and celebrate all the people that have helped her on this journey we call life. Hopefully when you listen to Yes Mama, you feel our ancestors, feel our mama, feel the person you call when all is not so well,  feel the resilience, feel the celebration and feel the love. This one is for you Maman! Yes Mama was written by Missy D, beats by Mantra, mixed/mastered by David Tallarico (The Beatcave) and an art by Kimmortal. The song dropped on Mother's Day but I am happy to perform it everyday and celebrate all the matriarchs and folks that share their wisdom with us. How would you compare the music you curate now to the music you curated when you first started out as an artist? Missy D was first inspired by Missy Elliott.A lot of my childhood friends compared my stage presence, style to the legendary Missy Elliott. She is a Queen!!! But I grew up listening to a lot of French rap from Mc Solaar to Diam's. Then came my love for 90s R&B  and neo-soul. As I continued to curate my own song and sounds , I found a home once again in the sounds of Lauryn Hill. I am grateful for all that paved a way and can hear the inspiration in my melodies. Can you explain more in depth on the challenges you've faced as a female artist in the predominantly male-driven hip-hop/rap scene? Let me start by saying there are a lot of talented women/ femme/non binary folks rapping out here. But it always seems like there is an even more limited amount of space for us all whether it's on a bill or on a playlist. I am happy to see the sisterhood rise and bring the collective along the way, the male dominated rap scene doesn't always want us to coexist. But we can and we can be real powerful with it. It's happening! We're excited to hear more from you in the future! When can we expect to see new releases from you?! Yes Mama is one of the new singles from my upcoming EP coming out before the end of the year. I am currently working on an album as well.More music, more shows and more collaborations. Keep up with Missy D on upcoming releases and performances via the artists website! #BuzzMusic

  • Lazy Reveles Becomes Vulnerable With A Vibrant Delivery In “Anxiety”

Lazy Reveles was born in South El Monte California right outside Los Angeles. His family moved to Greensville South Carolina when he was simply just 5 years old. He’s always been a shy individual up until he began creating music. He didn’t take it seriously up until the year 2015 and 2016. It was then he created a rap group alongside his friends titled 2Shadesofdope. Although the group still exists, they decided to do solo music as well since Lazy Reveles moved to Atlanta for various personal reasons. With 4 songs released in the past couple of months on various platforms, he’s dropping the 5th record on the 12th of July! We took a listen to “Anxiety” by Lazy Reveles and we loved everything about this record. The message was deep and powerful, but the delivery and vibe were delightful and more upbeat. The uptempo production of the beat sets off the colorful aesthetic of the song while the lyrics were more personal and spoke about multiple topics that many people, unfortunately, go through themselves. There are not many songs that discuss the theme of “Anxiety” therefore this record was much needed to touch those who feel as if there isn’t enough representation of the feelings they go through. “Anxiety” is a highly relatable track with a vibrant energy that exudes through the bright melodic beat to its listener. Give a listen to "Anxiety" here, and continue reading for Lazy Reveles' interview with BuzzMusic! Welcome to BuzzMusic Lazy Reveles! How was it growing up in South Carolina? And from Michael Jackson to The Beatles.. I grew up on oldies so anything Motown.. Even some rock with Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Sublime. What’s the main message in “Anxiety”? Equipped with a sultry voice and a catchy hook, Zacarias weaves through storytelling elements through his emotive songwriting and R&B stylings. Zacarias curates music that his listeners can relate to in order to forge original connections with his fans. Contemporary pop/hip-hop fused with motown vibes give this track just enough soul for anyone to rock along with. It’s got a contagious energy and addicting melody that we’re bumping on repeat. Authentically Zacarias’ style, “Be Your Man” is a spectacular smooth summer track on it’s way to the top. Check out “Be Your Man” here and read more in our exclusive interview below. Hey Zacarias! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started in the music industry? Thank you for having me. Well, it started in 2008. I was 20 years old, just graduated from a music production class at a local recording arts school in Calgary. I decided to move to Vancouver for my career, which unfortunately for me, nothing happened. After two months, I moved back to Calgary to work as a street performer, gig musician, and singer. I'd perfom at weddings, busk, and join local bands. During my downtime, I would write songs and record backing tracks. I kept doing this for a number of years. On the spring of 2015, I went back to the school—which was also a commercial recording studio—and played my demos. The studio owner offered me the position of production intern. For the next three years, I learned everything there is to know about producing and recording. I would engineer, produce, mix, perform, compose, and write for studio's clients. In return, the owner paid me sometimes. Mostly, I would receive studio time after business hours. This is where I built up a small catalogue of demos, some of which shaped my early sound. Was there a specific event/person in your life that made you get into music/ start recording your material? I remember being 4 years old hanging out inside a living room listening to a cassette of "Black or White" by Michael Jackson. It changed my life; all I ever wanted to do then was copy his singing and dance around. I grew up around church a lot and imitated the singing of the choir. My parents saw my interest in music and bought me a Casio keyboard. I joined all the choir and band programs. I recall being about 12-13 years old; whenever I felt inspired, I would go into our family computer, open up windows xp sound recorder, and with a plastic computer mic record myself singing and sometimes even rapping tunes. These moments were pretty much the start for me. Who are you musical influences and how do they help shape your sound? I will say I derived most of my guitar playing style from John Mayer and Eric Clapton. I love Coldplay. They've taught me the art of blending contrasts to create mood. To a lesser extent, Radiohead as well. Vocally, Chris Martin, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, and Musiq Soulchild really influence me. Then you have J Dilla sampling and beats, Herbie Hancock harmony, The Neptunes' production, Alicia Keys' sound, The Roots' live hip-hop, the Tom Misch guitar, Robert Glasper piano, Dwele composition... The list is too long haha. But, these artists and bands are my study material. What does “Be Your Man” mean to you? What do you want your listeners to take away from it? I remember going through a breakup where my ego told me it was time to move on, no turning back. Suddenly, I started feeling like all the colour and substance in my life begin to seep out of picture. Eventually, it became empty like a new canvas. That was a tough moment for me. Some time passed. I was on my phone ready to delete all my memory of her and then a picture of her came up. And just like a finger snap, that empty canvas came back to life. I saw my future with her. And that was the moment when I knew I wanted to be the one for her. I want people to know that loving someone has to be honest and reciprocal. "Be Your Man" is about catching feelings, and finding the courage to tell that someone exactly what they mean to you. It's also about trying to gain something that could be lost forever. Whether it's someone old or new in your life, it's feeling that desire to create a life with someone you've fallen in  love with however many times over. Can we have any hint at a release date for your upcoming EP? The EP (which shall remain nameless) could come out late 2019. • Terence Is Writing His Own Legacy With This Dope Hit, “Details”

“God changed my life and now I make music about it. I don’t really care what people want to call me. All I know is that I have a story to tell because God narrated it.” - Terence Penny Every artist has their “Why” and the reason for wanting to pursue music. The way they develop their deeply rooted passion for this career differentiates. For Terence Penny, he had all the odds stacked against him. A child of immigrant parents from Ghana, he grew up surrounded by violence. Through his crime-infested neighborhood, to even the witnessing of domestic violence in his own comforting home, he struggled to deal with his surroundings as a child. Terence internalized his emotions and in just the second grade, was placed in a Section 23 classroom, an educational program designed to address students’ specific academic, social and emotional needs. Although he was frustrated and felt lost, God had a plan for him. When he began attending a local church as a teenager he was first introduced to hip-hop. Although he was always an avid listener of hip-hop, hearing the genre fuse together with Gospel was an entirely different experience. Hip-hop quickly became an outlet for him to share and recover from his childhood experiences and soon after discovering it, he started honing his own flow and writing original lyrics, two things that came naturally. He had a lot to say and upon realizing that his experience was something so many people could relate to, Terence knew that music was what he’d been called to do. Terence Penny is releasing his latest single titled “Details” today and we couldn’t be any more excited to hear this track. Details had classic R&B elements in the smooth-sailing, saturated vocals. The texture and quality of his voice was something so irresistible. The groovy beat gave us components of dancehall and light reggaeton. It fused together with the genres of PoP, R&B, and even smooth hip-hop. “Details” is a song that represents the charismatic nature of summer and the vibrancy the energy exudes is infectious. He leaves you coming back for more repeated listens due to how addictive you become to the record. Terence Penny's witty lyricism shows effortless skill as a songwriter. Just like the title, “Details” is a highly contextual record with detail in every execution. You can tell this song was carefully arranged, which is why you become so amazed by it. Think of artists like J.Cole and Drake. What would you envision a joint collaboration with these artists to sound like? Well, we can tell you “Details” is an easy outlet for your imaginative thinking. Listen to "Details" here and get to know more about Terence below! Thank you for sharing your music with us Terence Penny! Knowing you had a rough upbringing. What is the main lesson you took from your background that you implement with your musical journey? Never lie about your story no matter how crazy it may had been and  never forget where you came from. Let’s discuss “Details”. This was a special song with a special vibe. What was the theme of the record? The theme of Details is people will act like they aren’t paying attention to what your doing when they are full in tune with your story and career. These same people tend to be your biggest critics.Nothing is wrong with criticism when it comes from the right place but this isn’t true of these type of people. Details speaks about not paying any mind to these people because what they have to say will not define you, your story or career. The only people that matter is your team, your family and the community God has placed you in. Were there any specific lyric arrangements you were going for in “Details” Not specially I just know the record had to be a whole vibe. I believe we all deal with this issue universally so I wanted the record to be light on the ears. In what ways does “Details” represents Terence Penny.? Details represents the part of me that is a bit edgy but still likes to have a good time. I feel like  it speaks about how we can take a serious issue and have it  understood, digested and enjoyed all at the same time. What’s the legacy you hope to leave behind you? I want to be remembered as someone who was transparent but not perfect. I want to be remembered as a man who was a good steward of his audience. I want to be remembered as a light and not just a rapper. Connect with Terrence Penny on social media www.instagram.com/TerencePenny

Raisinbran is an independent artist out of the Indianapolis area. He makes hip-hop music that’s different from the mainstream. Facing tough circumstances growing up, he battled with his drug addiction since he was 12 years old. He uses his music as a way to spread positivity to anyone who may need a different perspective on life. His biggest influences range from God, Mac Demarco, Mac Miller, EARTHGANG, and Tyler The Creator. It’s quite clear Raisinbran takes influence from these artistic creators because the measures of depth and dimension in his own music are so immaculate. We took a listen to the release of his single titled “2 Scoops” and what we really loved most about this track was how it represents the conscious rapper artistry that has recently taken over the industry in recent years. Raisinbran's lyrical ability is amazing and the articulation of each verse shows great skill. Hip-hop is probably at a peak right now and Raisinbran can undeniably represent the new aged wisdom. “2 Scoops” had a well-arranged beat that would set the vibe just right and serve as a foundation for the tone of the song. Raisinbran is a laid-back artist but you can tell he has what it takes to deliver strong dynamics through his music. “2 Scoops” is a vibe you don’t want to miss out on! What’s the major lesson you received from the upbringing of Raisinbran that served you beneficial for your journey as an artist so far? I would say that the major lesson I’ve received from my upbringing is to always have a reason or purpose for releasing music. The name is pretty cool! We must say, however, what’s the story behind “Raisinbran”? Haha thank you! My first name is Brandon and a lot of people started calling me raisinbran before I started making music and I would say my music could be described as healthy or good for you, just like a bowl of nutritious raisinbran. Let’s jump into your music! You’re influenced by a wide range of exceptional and highly talented individuals. Who would you say is the main influence for your style as a rapper and why? I would say that the main influence for my style as a rapper would be Mac Miller. He has this unique, jazzy, and relaxed style that I just love. R.I.P. Mac What was the major theme behind “2scoops” and how does it relate to the meaning of your project “Abstract Thoughts”? The major theme for 2 Scoops is that we need a little bit of knowledge and truth about the world we are living in. It is basically my theme song as an artist and it ties into the album by introducing myself to the audience and telling them what my music is about and also proving a little portion of my backstory. How has the summer been treating you so far? Any plans? Summer has been great! I plan to work like crazy and make music and art and grow closer to my fans and my creator. :) Connect with Raisinbran on social media www.instagram.com/chronicraisinbran

  • Milrose Lets His Listener Get Lost In “Paradise”

Milrose is an artist based out of Atlanta Georgia. He received his first guitar and began playing music and singing around the age of 12 years old. Since then, he learned to play multiple instruments and has a background in multiple genres of music. At his current age of 24, he’s been recording and releasing his music for less than a year. Milrose is pushing to create something that fans can relate to and vibe with in any situation and setting. Milrose released his single titled “Paradise” and this single would appeal immensely to the youth. This comforting song hints the theme of keeping your head high and striving forward. Unfortunately, depression is a high rate among the youth in this country. Many people turn to outlets to escape their feelings and thoughts. Some of these outlets include artistic pictures, hobbies, music, and many more. So for Milrose to offer us “Paradise” as this enigmatically driven escape song for people to get lost in was brilliant. Not only was it brilliant, but it was also authentic. The lyricism, delivery, and even the visual gave us hope that artists are still channeling in real feelings into their music. Becoming vulnerable with his craft, Milrose basically allows his pain to sing for him. But his vocal quality is amazing and the texture of his voice is soft, adding comfort to the listener. The lyrics basically motivates you to keep pushing forward and reassures that there are indeed better days ahead. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the video. He played with our senses due to how the imagery created an atmosphere for the listener. The sun falling and night rising helped with the dwell some vibe of the record. I was also focused on how Milrose was so natural with the camera. It’s like he knew how to deliver his vocals to enhance the experience for the listener. “Paradise” is a great song for people to become lost and found within, recouping your emotions, and gathering your happiness back intact. Listen to "Paradise" here. Connect with Milrose on social media www.instagram.com/milrose95
