Dance to “When We’re Sober” here, and keep scrolling for Michael Herrick’s exclusive interview. Hey there Michael! Can you share with us what made you so passionate about the house/electro-pop music scene? This is actually one of the first house songs I’ve made in a while, but I was really inspired by some of the music Strange Fruits Records have been putting out. I really love pop music, so it was fun fusing a more dance-inspired track with pop elements. What is the most important element within your music that you want to shine through your music the most? For me, its always very melody driven, whether it be from the lead sound, the vocals, or the chords.“When We’re Sober” is an incredibly catchy track. What was your initial vision for the song before you finished production? I actually started with just the main chords and then played my guitar over it to find the main lead melody, then I sent it to my friends John the Dropout and Tasji, and they wrote these super fun lyrics to it that just fit so well, I couldn’t believe it. What would be your dream venue to perform? I’m not much of a performer, I really haven’t DJed much, just been so focused on producing, but I think playing Coachella would be amazing. What’s next for you throughout the rest of 2019? The rest of the year is packed with releases. I think I have a song coming out every month until the end of the year, so this is a really exciting year for me. Connect with Michael Herrick on social media www.instagram.com/michaelherrick_
- Trip Gets Real With “Things For Granted”
Trip grew up in Vernon, Florida and he began publicly rapping after his brother was incarcerated in 2012. Bringing more to the table then solely just rap, Trip speaks knowledge and pushes self-motivation. So we decided to take a listen to his song “Things For Granted”. When the song began playing, I instantly knew this would have a substantial meaning behind it. The melodic beat sets the tone for a melancholic vibe. The delivery from Trip and the passion in his voice shows off a real and natural aesthetic. The lyrics were vulnerable, thought-provoking, and straight-forward. Trip strips away the tough-guy rapping image to give us something that’s emotionally moving and heart-rendering. He becomes more than a rapper. He becomes a voice of reason and his message could connect with many people from similar backgrounds as him. This was super dope to me. I liked how it presented us a real true artist. Someone who isn’t afraid to be authentic. Someone who also isn’t afraid of reaching out, and helping others through their music. Trip is going to become a groundbreaking success undeniably! And if he doesn’t? Well that’s just one flaw of the music industry and the GP! Listen to "Things For Granted" here and get to know more about Trip below! What’s up Trip! How was your upbringing? How did growing up in Florida affect your music? My lifestyle was literally what I made it. My parents never let me hurt for anything I was rebellious though. I always wanted to be my own man and take care of myself and as soon as I got a car I was gone. I stayed on the road trying to make my own. When my brother got locked up that’s what took the longest time to get over. The transition when mom and pops wasn’t together exposed me to a lot. Growing up in Florida just really brands what you speak about. I can only speak about my area on a understanding level because I know what’s goin on in my area. Who would you consider a few of your inspirations and your reason to keep striving in your career? I got a lot of people who inspire me. From my pops , to my mom , to my brothers , my kids , anybody truly involved in what I am doing because everyday I think about who I can’t let down. “Things For Granted” seems to have a strong lyrical meaning behind it. Whose better to detail it for us than the man himself who created it!? Mind telling us a bit about the theme in “Things For Granted” Trip? Things For granted was wrote mainly talking to myself. I tend to overthink sometimes. So I put all my problems in perspective and focused on the fact that god got me and I won’t go through nothing I can’t handle. The hook is really the motivation part the verses are struggle. What was the most challenging emotion you had to channel in while creating this? Believe it or not it was a breeze. This subject really touched daily thoughts. I felt like it was something relatable about it and it just came together smoothly. What’s next for you Trip? Hopefully more blog placements, Videos , shows , new music drops but most of all success. Connect with Trip on social media www.facebook.com/Au79-Trip
- Rio Westside Brings Us The Smooth Rap Hit, “Rec0very”
Rio Westside is the 23 year old artist and producer from the Bay Area of California who transcends genres from rap to alternative. His influences includes Earl Sweatshirt, Schoolboy Q, and The Weeknd. Rio Westside released his single titled “Rec0very” and this was an interesting song with a sound that’s unfamiliar to what you’re used too. The autotune was nicely and smoothly inputted into the song with a textured style. The production of the beat was a fusion of both lo-fi and old school rap with a new school flare! The contemporary swag on the production helped the song feel more mainstream. “Rec0very” could undeniably compete with the best of the best. Not many songs know how to show much versatility and personality within one track. However, for Rio Westside, despite his impeccable delivery, “Rec0very” felt like a compound song with a multitude of different vibes you can catch. “Rec0very” is great for the summer, and many people will find themselves thoroughly enjoying this! Listen to “Rec0very” here and get to know more about Rio Westside below! Welcome to BuzzMusic Rio Westside! The bay area has been known for it’s hyphy rap scene. In what ways has your growing environment impacted your style? RW: Well growing up in the Bay, the Hyphy sound was always prevalent and still is today. It definitely shaped my perspective of a hit song and I continue to evolve with music with that as my fundamental approach. How would you describe your music? What’s the main goal you hope to attain with your career? RW: To describe my music is just a versatile style with gritty lyrics and great melodies. The main goal I hope to attain is to one day be at the Grammys, if not I’ll still make music that inspires and moves people. Also want to write for other artists as well, the pen game is mighty on this side. “Rec0very” was a nice hit! What was the meaning behind this song? RW: Rec0very was just a song about losing love but being okay with it after all the adversity. It’s also about being content with the stagnation that hits your life and knowing there’s a brighter future. Other than that I just wanted something people could dance and vibe out to. What was the most challenging aspect for you as an artist in creating “Rec0very”? RW: The most challenging aspect was singing the verse how I did. There was gin involved, and it’s funny because I rather rap than to sing, but with gin it’s a little different. I did so many takes to try and perfect my drunken singing and finally got it down after like 45 min. What’s next for you Rio Westside? RW: Doing more shows and dropping projects. Me and the producer NoLyrix have an album dropping Fall 2019 so that's the main thing. Also writing and producing an EP and songs for other artists as well in California. Looking to blow up in due time, and looking forward to getting getting my Bachelor’s Degree as well. - SJUR Has Made Us Super Fans With His Latest Mix "Blame It On Me"!
We’ve been in a huge electronic mood lately, and SJUR further complements that type of vibe for us. SJUR is a Norwegian DJ/producer, and has recently came out with new music that’s on a huge wave. First, we have to tell our readers who and what SJUR is. SJUR has the producing genes in him—growing up with a father who predominantly produced/DJ’d is a heavy influence on the type of music you would also produce. We can hear through SJUR’s tracks that his mixing talent is curated finely, and with time. Inspired by his fathers legacy, SJUR took up producing and mixing. And, thankfully for us, SJUR contributes his authentic and finely-aged curation skills to the electro-pop music scene. This unequivocal talent that SJUR possesses can be seen through his mass Spotify fan base—which now includes all of us at BuzzMusic! But seriously, having over a million subscribers can really show the type of love SJUR is receiving on his end as an artist. We listened to his music, notably his most popular song “Let Me Love You” and we caught on to the wave right away. We knew when he came out with his new music, we wouldn’t be disappointed, and we were far from it! “Blame It On Me” is the perfect summer bop. That pretty much sums up the quality and production of SJUR’s latest track. All you want to do is dance, or move your body in some way when listening to “Blame It On Me”. And that’s the exact feeling we want to be overwhelmed with when listening to an electro-pop track. The song begins with catchy and inspiring synths, eventually accompanied by Peg Parnevik’s stunning vocals that fit into the beat incredibly well. That’s definitely a huge part of producing tracks, finding the vocals that fit along with what you’re producing as a DJ can be challenging, and sometimes the vocalism doesn’t always blend effortlessly with simplicity. You can already guess that SJUR’s “Blame It On Me” is the type of track that doesn’t fail when it comes to that element (we definitely wouldn’t be sharing it with the BuzzMusic community if it didn’t)! We love the energy and eccentrics in “Blame It On Me”, especially how pulsating the tempo is—we highly recommend you play this track on high volume to feel its full effects! - Saegin Geum Fuses Together Country And Hip-hop With “Cowboy Drip”
Saegin Geum released the most dope fusion of country and hip-hop we’ve ever heard! His single “Cowboy Drip” pays homage to the traditional country southern roots. “Cowboy Drip” begins with an suspenseful introduction, leaving you wondering where the direction of the song is going to go. “I need a cowboy hat so the chicks can dig me” is the opening lyrics to the song and it instantly gave us a small cackle. The lyricism obviously became a witty, cheeky, and quirky vibe and in my opinion, the best part about the song. When he delivers his fire verse he transforms his voice into a stereotypical southern country boy to help reflect the theme of the entire song. It was a dope way to aesthetically combine together Country and Hip-Hop. Cowboy Drip could potentially be the song that transforms country lovers into rap lovers and rap lovers into country lovers! It’s the blend between both genres and he executed that fusion properly. ‘Cowboy Drip’ has this contagious energy to the song where you instantly subconsciously transform your mood into something more uplifting and exciting. ‘Cowboy Drip’ is an artistically brilliant way to present artistry and personality to his music. Add the aesthetically sounding track "Cowboy Drip" to your Spotify playlist! Stay connected with Saegin via the artists socials: Facebook Instagram #BuzzMusic
- Kidd Grape Gives Us A Refreshing Summer Hit With “pREsSeD”
Kidd Grape was born in Ohio and grew up non-athletic so he indulged himself in gaming at a young age. Around his sophomore year of high school, he began making beats on Garage band and playing around with his rap style, experimenting with auto tune and creating diss tracks for his online friends for fun. The story behind his name? Well since his career practically started from his gaming system, his Gamertag at that time was “AverageGrap0867”. Hence the “Grape”, and the “Kidd” was just a prefix he liked! Kidd Grape completely shocked us when we heard his song titled “pREsSeD”. This began as a fire hit and remained consistent throughout the song. Without any dynamics going low causing the song to turn dull, “pREsSeD” keeps the energy at a level of altitude the listeners won’t be able to come down from easily. Knowing his career began as an experiment turned into a passion, Kidd Grape shows us that this is what he’s meant to do. Music has been his calling, and he’s taking it by storm! “pREsSeD” is the type of song that I can hear being played during the summer functions! It’s outgoing and bright with a bold lyrical component and refreshing energy. Kidd Grape is one of the newest faces to the hip-hop game and one of the leading contenders to blow! Listen to “pREsSeD” here and get to know more about Kidd Grape below! What’s up, Kidd Grape! You started your career off essentially from your gaming days. Just a fun quick question, what were some of your favorite games to play? I LOVED to play 2k (more specifically park), call of duty, Fortnite, Apex Legends and Gta (5) there might be more lol. Have you showed your online friends your music now? How do they react? If not, how do you think they’d react now? When I started over the games I inspired a few others to rap so we kinda all started and listened to each other’s stuff to this day we’ve stayed connected. We always let each other know what was weak and what was clean. at first they were a bit jealous of me but now we’re all on the same page. We actually have collabs on the way maybe. Who would you consider some of your inspirations/influences? In what ways have they impacted your artistry? People like Chief Keef(Flows), Lil Wayne(Clever Lines), Gunna(Drip), Adele(Vocals), Fantasia(Her Soul), Panic at the disco!(punk sound/ style), metro boomin(producing) and Juice wrld especially all made it seem fun and unique. So i decided to combine my favorite parts of them and many more artists with my own abilities and project them through my music. Let’s talk about your song “pREsSeD”. A HIT! What was your favorite moment in this record and what’s the major theme behind the song? The Chorus is my favorite part. The entire song was a freestyle and I was jus kicking lines about everything that was going on around me and it was specifically about one person being pressed. The Theme was just me being fed up with life at the moment. (don’t care, a lot) so i jus found the beat and ripped over it and finished in one night. i didn’t even like the song at first. What’s next for you Kidd Grape? I’m looking at going on tour soon but it’s a lot of maybe and at the end of the day it depends on whatever my fans want. Listen to "Save My Soul" here and get to know more about Chéri Yielle below! Welcome to BuzzMusic Chéri Yielle! We’re happy to have you here with us. Mind telling our readers a bit about your background and story? I'm so happy to talk to you. My parents literally come from two different worlds - one from old-skool Brooklyn, and the other from older school Haiti. Then, for me to be living their dream being raised in the suburbs, which was different from both of the cultures they connected me to. All these different cultures exposed me to everything from Country classics like Johnny Cash to the soul of Curtis Mayfield, and then to the emo punk bands like MCR. I was learning piano and guitar in college at the time that he was sick, so I developed a lot both artistically and as a person over a pretty intense 4 years. The connection between pain, loss, love, and gratitude definitely comes from the impact of those experiences. How would you describe your beautiful songwriting approach? Do you receive most of your inspirations from your personal life experiences? Thank you! I'm inspired by abstraction, so whether I'm starting or ending with my own life experience, I never know where my thought or feeling on any one idea or concept will take me. There are no rules to follow, so I embrace that freedom. In my EP, there is a deeply personal story or combination of my real life experiences specifically for each song. Were there any specific arrangements you were going for in “Save My Soul”? Yes! It started off with just a guitar, and the way my message developed, I was inspired by those late 90's - early 00's emotional hip-ballads. The Dido records, The Fugees, Wyclef and Lauryn. It was important for me to connect with that part of me when creating the sound. What was the most challenging aspect for you in creating “Save My Soul”? How did you overcome this challenge!? The production became so challenging. The song was pretty much complete, but something in the percussion or the rhythm wasn't feeling right. We didn't know if it was the tempo, the type of drums used, etc. Eventually, one of my awesome producers, Joe Lindsay, brought in a sample that made everything complete. With Ashby mixing, the answer became a combination of the sample with multiple other drum layers that seamlessly went together. Shoutout to Steve, Derrick, and Lyd. What’s next for you? I'm looking forward to traveling, collaborating with other artists, and expressing the other layers and flavors of my sound - both live and in the studio. There's a lot more to my message, and I just want to inspire from my own truth. Let's just say there are always more stories to tell. Listen to "Come Again" here and get to know more about Lou Raw below! Thank you for sharing your music with us Lou Raw! How has it been for you growing up in Southern California? In what ways has your upbringing impacted your music? My music is based on my experiences both past and present. Its therapeutic to make a good song about a negative experience and have people relate to it. Growing up in Cali was cool until my mom and step dad split up and we lost the house and I sought a means of fast money that led me down a road of crime and many hard lessons. I now share the information that I gained on the way to enlightenment. Who are some of your influences? Why do they inspire you? I'm influenced and inspired by all forms of good music and art so it would not be fair to name just a few. “Come Again” was a dope song! We loved every bit of it. How would you describe the theme of this track? Come again is actually inspired by Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow." It's meant to be a fun song despite the harsh demanding undertone. I used a catchy beat to display my attitude toward those who owe me money. What was one of the most challenging aspects of creating “Come Again”? One of the most challenging aspects of creating "Come Again" was the simplicity of it. It's natural for me to create more conscious concepts that have a deep underlying purpose like many of the other songs on my latest project Reflections-of-my-paradox. Any exciting summer plans for you Lou Raw? My summer plans consist finishing up another project Reflections-of-my-Paradox Vol. 2 and releasing the first single. Then I can network through performances and celebrate the release of two projects within the year. Connect with Lou Raw on social media www.instagram.com/raw_lou www.facebook.com/louraw
- Up And Comer From Sweden, Sabina Högdahl Releases Her Debut Single “Strange Illusion”
Sabina Högdahl is a gifted singer/songwriter and guitarist from Gothenburg, Sweden. Growing up in the 90’s, Sabina was exposed to the greatest era and a diverse collection of music. Influenced by many genres, Sabina discovered her passion for music at a young age. She joined a choir for a few years and there she established her finely-calibrated vocal tone. Ambitious and driven, Sabina took her passion further and studied for two years at a reputable music school in Sweden. Her pop/rock anthems, strong melodies and catchy lyricism make her an artist to stay on the lookout for! Sabina Högdahl recently dropped her debut single “Strange Illusion” and we’re getting serious Paramore vibes. To have the vocal range to be compared to Hayley Williams is incredible. Sabina has me absolutely blown away with her polished beyond her years tone and emotive ballad. “Strange Illusion” is a track about Sabina’s inner thoughts, fears, demons and doubts. She’s boasts incredibly raw vulnerability in order to connect with her fans. Sabina’s song writing comes deeply from the heart and soul. She’s previously stated that performing on stage makes her heartbeat and isn’t that what making music is all about? I highly recommend you check out the raw and touching energy within “Strange Illusion” and keep up with Sabina Högdahl! Her second release is expected July 2019 and following that she will begin recording her debut EP! Lots of exciting things to come for this new-wave artist! Listen to “Strange Illusions” here and read more below it our exclusive interview! Hi Sabina! What’s the pop-rock scene like in your hometown in Sweden? I would say that my hometown Gothenburg has a lot of music to offer, especially when it comes to pop music and rock music. In general, the Gothenburg pop scene is influenced by a certain sound that is influenced by artists such as Håkan Hellström and others, and the rock scene has more of a heavier 70s and blues sound to it. But when it comes to the pop-rock scene, I find it more difficult to define. You find a lot of bands and artists that could fit under the genre pop-rock music, myself included, and it's not always clear where you draw the line between pop and rock. I guess it's about personal preferences. Who are your musical influences? How do they inspire you? My first musical influences come from the music I started to listen to when I was a child. My father used to make mix cd:s to my sister and I, and that was the beginning of a growing interest in music. I found a role model in the songwriter and singer Chris Cornell, whos’ expression I’ve always found moving and honest. I listened to the band Audioslave in which he was the front person, and became inspired by his way of writing melodies. Other influences in music has been Michael Jackson and his rhythmic way of singing, and lately, the band Paramore. I love how the raw sense of emotion are brought forward in the combination of music, lyrics and an awesome singing technique used by Hayley Williams. Last but not least, I have always had a big passion for the band Queen. Freddie Mercury has a way of delivering his songs with a passion that strikes my heart every time I hear his singing voice. This has made a big impact on me and influenced my way of singing and wanting to feel my own lyrics in the same way. What’s your track “Strange Illusion” about? What was the writing process like? I started the making of this song when I was in a state of mind when I felt lonely with my own feelings. I didn’t feel really well and struggled with mental illness. It was a state of mind I was in at that very moment, as I picked up the guitar and started to write the song that later became “Strange Illusion”. The song is an expression of self doubt and frustration with a longing for better days. I wanted to escape those ghosts in my mind, but I didn’t really know how. Now that I’m better, I think it’s really important to talk about the way you feel, and to be aware of that things will get better eventually. Can you describe your live performance for someone who has never seen you before? When I get on stage, I’m always nervous but I know that I will give my very best and I hope that the audience sees that too. I want the audience to experience my music together with me and that they leave the show with a sensation of wanting more. The expression is everything to me and I want my love for music to reach out to the people in front of me. Hopefully they go home with a great musical and emotional experience. How do you feed your passion for music everyday? I listen a lot to music and I get inspired by new sounds. I also go to shows in town and listen to local bands, both to support my fellow musicians and to get inspired by their music. I think about what the next step is and aim to reach certain goals. For example, I have an upcoming single and right now I’m working on the cover for it. In the fall my goal is to record an EP with the band and to rehearse to be able to perform some live shows. To conclude it all, my will to develop within my music and to reach a bigger audience, is what drives me to keep writing new songs and doing what I do.
