- Lumen Craft Gives Us Diverse And Eclectic Melodies In “Stranger”
Remember the name now: Lumen Craft. A trio straight out of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Lumen Craft present to us an eclectic mix of electronic, pop and indie genres—and this unique blend of harmonies they manifest is quite a favorite in Brazil. This diverse-sounding band have developed a loud reputation, performing on stages such as Sofar Sound Latin America, MECA Inhotim Festival and Brazil’s Rock The Mountain. And this electro-pop trio isn’t stopping any time soon—their recent release of “Stranger” is a song that gave us all the vibes we needed. Lumen Craft effuses a lively body experience in “Stranger” with their crafted blend of rhythms and synths. Right away the heavy and sultry beat overcomes you, and makes you feel connected with the melody. We ultimately noticed how well the tone coordinated with the vocals, intertwined with a continuous diverse harmony. The entire song complements itself and ultimately had a great execution with smooth atmosphere it creates for the listener. Add “Stranger” to your playlist here—we already have! Listen to "Stranger" here. Hey guys! Please tell our readers who each of you are. Ceah - Producer John - Vocalist Noah - Guitarist Can you describe the sound you initially envisioned for Lumen Craft? We always wanted to achieve a balanced mix between blues, soul and electronic music, with a combination of live instruments, synths and drum machines. We all have different histories in music but we found a common ground with Lumen Craft where we thrive, achieving different musical scopes in each step we take as a band. Did “Stranger” execute the way you wanted it to as a group? Stranger is a song we cherish for its bluesy feel, simplicity and riffs. It certainly executed the way we envisioned, coming as a breath of fresh air. It has strong electronic elements as it does have a presence with vocals and guitars getting to a balance we have been seeking for. Since there are three of you, each with diverse imaginations, do you find you ever clash with ideas? We usually work in a way that everyone has to be happy with the sound, if we don't get to this stage the track is not ready, so in that sense we do clash, but with friendly fires where we lift each other up, taking the best out of our musicanship. How did you three originally know you wanted to collaborate, and then form Lumen Craft? We began producing some tracks, experimenting in the studio. After a while we felt something began to take form. We decided to produce more, that's when we noticed we had a hand full of songs that worked well together. It all happened very organically. - Heather Morningstar Is Giving Us Alternative Rock Flashbacks with “It’s Okay”
Heather Morningstar, an artist from Columbus, Ohio gives us a flash from the past with her unique execution of alternative rock. Although Heather Morningstar released her EP “When The Sun Refuses to Shine” in early January of this year, her sound is quite inimitable. Heather's new album “When the Sun Refuses to Shine” reveals her journey through recovery, and the tracks have been undoubtedly manifested to express the disparate and raw emotion identifying with her newfound resurgence. The vocals in Heather Morningstar’s “It’s Okay” bring back an incredibly familiar sound from the early 90s—a heavy alternative rock sensation. “It’s Okay” is one of those songs that will easily get you bobbing your head along with the strident rhythm. The implementation of the vocals alone are comparable to elements that bands such as The Cranberries, Stevie Nicks, and The Pretty Reckless express. Keep an eye out for Heather Morningstar—even though she gives us some serious flashbacks, her future, if of any reflection of her new EP, is quite promising! We can't wait to hear what's next. Listen to “It’s Okay” on Spotify and catch our exclusive interview with Heather below! Hey Heather! Please introduce yourself to our readers. Hi! I'm Heather Morningstar from Columbus, Ohio. Who were your biggest inspirations for your EP “When the Sun Refuses to Shine”? My biggest inspiration for my EP was my sobriety and journey in recovery. Without, none of this would be possible. What inspired “It’s Okay”? 'It's Okay' was inspired by my need to express the opposite of what I was feeling at the time in my dark state of drunken loneliness. I wanted to ease the minds of those who cared about me. Making a big impression in the world of alternative rock can definitely be a milestone. How do you expect to make a breakthrough? I expect everyone to fall in love with me of course. The listeners are everything in this line of work. But I will be taking every opportunity presented to me. The Universe has guided me this far and I trust that it is guiding me in the right direction. So, my breakthrough will come from not only hard work, determination, passion, positivity and being unique, but by having music that people can truly relate to and be inspired by. What is one piece of advice you’ve always follow throughout the creation of your music? The one piece of advice I have always followed is that music is magical, and there is no "one formula" or "right way" to write a great song. Never force it, let it happen; let it come to you. - Her Brothers New Single “Innocent” Gives Us Everything We Need And More!
Vancouver’s very own Her Brothers are a lively, refined alt-pop band, fusing 90s punk energy with 80s dance-rock. The band is composed of 3 brothers: Gabe, the vocals and guitar, Josh, the bass, and Levi Penner, the drums. Gaining a lot of inspirational influences from names like Michael Jackson, Maroon 5, and Peter Gabriel, Her Brothers displays the innate ability to give us contemporary hits while adding the timeless traditions of music to them. They have gained a significant following from their extravagant live shows and performances. The shows they put on are what one would say is electrifying! You can tell this is something these brothers are passionate about. Their latest album Tribe, has been an album they have been experimenting with the unreleased tracks to give their fans some true excitement! “Innocent” is a track towards the end of their album Tribe but one that should not be passed over. The intro verse to this track gives you a nice build up to the chorus. “I want to sing, but I never want to miss a note” sold me. Gabe's vocals are extremely moving. Looking at the band visually, you never know what to expect and I love that! The blended melodies throughout this track is bananas. I can hear so many layers. Using vocals as sounds, the snaps that almost sound like drum sticks, guitar placement. I mean I can go on and on. There is something so rich and timeless about this particular track. The bridge and outro of this track was exceptionally done. And although for some ends soon, it is the perfect lead up to the next track. Her Brothers, although brothers, work so very well together. Bravo guys! Listen to “Innocent” here and get to know Her Brothers in our interview below! Hey there guys! Mind sharing with our readers who you are and a little about yourselves? The three of us are brothers Gabe, Josh and Levi Penner from Vancouver BC and we make up the band Her Brothers. We met when we were born, consecutively and we’ve been playing music together for just over 13 years. As brothers, what is the most difficult aspect about working together? Since we do pretty much everything in house it’s very easy for conflict to arise in regards to song or video writing and production. One of the things we say a lot is, “the song is king” but of course it can get heated when we’re all trying to let the song be it’s best self and have two or even three different ideas. Probably where it gets most difficult is in checking ourselves. Because we’ve all grown up together and are brothers it’s easy to take it out on one another without even thinking about it and assume it’ll be fine. Family seems to bring out a unique intensity at times. We try to not take ourselves too seriously. What inspired your new track “Innocent”? My own struggle with depression and anxiety. It’s obviously not everyone’s story by any means but what I myself have found is that I have a huge amount of agency when it comes to my own choices that can lead to heightened anxiety or bouts of depression. The big one for me is social media. I mean the whole mechanism is setup to create feelings of alienation and then affirmation and back and forth. It’s been designed to keep a user on it for as long as possible. We’re one of the most, if not the most, connected society the world has ever seen and yet one of most disconnected, dissatisfied and lonely societies at the same time. People used to die from war, famine and plague, and there still is lots of death around those terrible things but we have significantly pushed them back all around the world. Who knew one of the biggest threats would be suicide. That we would be taking our own lives. How do you keep things fresh within you music? Listen to music outside of our tastes and read lots. I’m a lyrics guy and I read quite a bit so I try to read stuff I’d normally never pick up, like Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s Gift From the Sea (which by the way is one of my favourites). Levi listens to a lot of soundtrack albums and atmospheric stuff with josh listening to a lot of hip hop and a ton of electronic music. There’s a lot of crossover and we all love the classics and such but I think coming from different places musically with some of the stuff we listen to and knowing that we each bring a unique piece to the table allows the song to be something more than one persons idea. Not only do I think it challenges us and makes the songs better but I think it also creates something that has the potential to connect with far more people because it has a piece of each of us in it. What separates you from other bands? We’re a pop band with a punk mentality. What can we anticipate coming from Her Brothers this year? We’ve got a few things coming down the pipe. We’ve got some new releases coming out this year, music videos and even some new songs. We’re really excited about a track we just worked on with a hip hop artist. We sent some stuff back and forth and come up with this collaboration we all love! We seriously can’t wait to share it with everyone. We’ve also got tour dates, a few up and more to come, and are getting excited with the potential of a cross country tour. Connect with Her Brothers on social media: Instagram Twitter Facebook
- LeTrainiump Delivers New Energetic Hit “Go!”
LeTrainiump is a emerging neon pop artist with a vibe reminiscent to the 80s and 90s emerging out of New Orleans, Louisiana. LeTrainiump released their outgoing hit “Go!”, the multicolored record with a hint of sunshine pop proves to match the overall artistry of LeTrainiump. “Go!” gives you a fluorescent aesthetic that describes the meaning behind fun. As soon as the song begins playing you’re quickly drawn in by the approachable and digestible vintage pop vibes! Since I didn’t have the opportunity to grow up in a time period where pop and rock music felt more carefree and vibrant, I always love listening to music that can place me back in that time period like a musical time machine. “Go!” depicted an image in my head with its noteworthy synthesizers and iconic classic kick drum sound while yet sprinkling a little bit of today’s current groove into the song which makes an all around effervescent hit tune that many people will enjoy in my opinion. Not necessarily a party song, but it’s fitting for any type of event where you want to enjoy good music, dance and cherish the company around you. It’s the teenage spirit that’s shown within the song that will attract the younger generation but it’s the classic vibe that will appeal to the older generation, making LeTrainiump an enthusiastic and well diverse act to follow. Listen to "Go!" here and be sure to check out our exclusive interview with LeTrainiump below! Hey there, care to introduce yourself to our readers? What Up! I’m LeTrainiump a pop artist , singer/songwriter, & producer from New Orleans, La. I recently debuted as an emerging artist with my single “Think.” & plan to bring any listener into my neon pop filled world with my latest release “Go!”. How did you guys form the name “Letrainiump”? That ones easy! I got the name from my mom who named me LeTrainiump when i was born! Growing up i always avoided that name & preferred nicknames. It was actually my former guitarist, Josef Barr, who first mentioned that I should be known by my actual name as an artist, he said he felt as if it was too original not to use. Naturally i fought against that but after years of wanting to be in the music industry & a self producing artist, I finally embraced my name and realized you can’t run from who you are! Do you have any older musical influences or inspirations? If so who and why? Yes actually! My top 3 would have to be Michael Jackson, David Bowie, & Lauryn Hill. Michael Jackson’s energy is so much to me and something i aspire to have. Listening to Michael taught me how to write songs and compose pop music in ways that made you move. Listening to Bowie taught me how to craft sound to movement, also Bowie took my mind musically to a new place and really gave me a new perspective of sound and gave me that spacey sound i fell in love with. Lastly Lauryn Hill taught me poetic communication (I can listen to her all day everyday) and how to be real. She influenced me to always be myself and let that speak through whatever song I’m writing. I try to be 100% authentic when writing lyrics and try to speak in such a way that everyone can relate. Lauryn Hill taught me that it’s ok to feel and speak about what I’m feeling. I can go one forever about how these and several others have influenced me musically, but I’m pretty sure these three sum it all up! How is your new release different than what you've brought out in the past? In the past I’ve tried to make my influences very subtle in my music, having bits and pieces reflect the time era or aesthetic that inspires me the most. What’s changed about that is now I’m pretty upfront with these new songs. My latest releases have really captured the aesthetic and vibe I put off and i find them to be a very upfront description of my world as an artist. If you could describe your artistry to any type of fruit or animal what would you describe yourself as and why? Hahaha! I love this question and if i had to be honest, the first thing that came to mind is a flamingo or several together. One time I watched a video with several flamingos moving together in a pond. It seemed like a party, all of the birds moved together in the same direction yet they were all kind of doing “their own thing”. When i think of my artistry i tend to think of one big party that we’re all apart of yet are all individuals. It’s probably not that deep of a meaning but it looked cool! What’s your favorite component of making music? One of my favorite components of making music would have to be finding different rhythms and letting each instrument speak through them! I have several different versions of every song I’ve released simply because when I’m listening back to the songs i constantly hear different rhythms & am always tempted to change them. Eventually i stick with one version & go with it. It’s like a mini adventure with every song I write. Have you ever created any mellow or subtle music before? Yes actually but I’ve never released any of it. I’m working on a few songs and tracks at the moment that could easily be more subtle or mellow but I guess we’ll see if those songs stay that way or change. Hey, we’re Weigh the Anchor, a 5-piece rock band from Oakville Ontario, Canada. How did you guys form your band "Weigh The Anchor"? We all met through mutual friends. It was a lot of luck being in the right place at the right time. We were all in similar situations musically and looking for other people to work with and found each other. What were some of the bands biggest struggles starting out? How did you overcome them? Being in a band nowadays for anyone has struggles. We have 5 guys that all have full time jobs that we do our best to work around. Our biggest struggle has probably been trying to push through the early stages of being a band to get to the point where this does become our full-time job. Congrats on the recent release! What’s the message or idea behind the single “Famous Words”? The overall idea behind Famous Words is about allowing yourself to let go and move forward. It’s about finding strength to move beyond the negative and toxic things in your life when it may seem easier to stay in that situation. Where do you see the Weigh The Anchor this time next year? We hope to have a full schedule of playing shows in new cities and countries. Just getting our music out there, growing as a band and building the team around us. What can we expect to see from your next EP? A lot of growth mostly. We put a lot more of ourselves and our personal experiences into our new music. We feel that we have grown so much as musicians and as a family since our first EP. We really think that people will connect more with the new songs lyrically and can still enjoy our mix between high energy riffs, softer melodies and everything in between. - Datant Releases Dynamic New Single “Poppy Romance”
Datant grew up in Los Angeles, CA and always found himself quite lonely in most situations. As he began to grow older he found himself engaging in substances which made him feel more extraverted. He never felt like he belonged in any specific place so he nomaded around and kept people at a distant. These travels led him to various sorts of places that differentiate from one another but none has appealed more significant to him than Texas, where he experience the greatest heartache and pain he's ever faced over the years. Datant eventually turned that pain into art when he began writing and recording music. Datant writes all his music, from drum beats to bass lines guitar solos, synth parts etc. Datant's single “Poppy Romance” touched base on the personal experiences and various travels Datant has endured on. This song was a product of his assorted occurrences. “Poppy Romance” has a beautiful indie alternative vibe with augmented vocals that seems sort of distorted which creates a cool effect for the listeners. This song feels slightly psychedelic but it’s so idiosyncratic where it feels almost difficult to really categorize this single at all. Nonetheless, Datant poured his heart out on the track and if you really focus and hone in on the context of the music, you will see the meaning behind it all and how it personally reflects the artistry of Datant and the character of him stripped away from the fabricated music image. "Poppy Romance" was detailed and ethereal and we enjoyed envisioning all the grainy images of prosperity, peace, and relaxation the song gave us. A beautiful song to add to all our sappy love playlists with a numbed vibe. “For me Dàtant begins as a personal journey. It was a cathartic way to try and move past many personal struggles, turmoil and inner demons that correlated with heartbreak, addiction, and a way to do something creative and positive to distract myself from the outside world and the internal workings of my dark mind.” - Datant Listen to "Poppy Romance" here. Hi there, care to introduce yourself to our readers? I'm Josh Ó. I write the sings and I song in the band. Do you believe growing up and dealing with different battles of anti-socialism helped shape the artist you are today? Well everyone is different in that some people use their art as a vehicle to channel their emotions, some use it to escape their emotions, some use it to confront their emotions.... Fransisco Goya is one of my favorite painters because he actually captured his madness and his descent into madness through his art. I say this because he became increasingly antisocial and isolated. I didn't actually grow up anti social and in fact loved human interaction but was always so different than everyone especially my age that for a while I became more distant and closed off more because people didn't really accept me. Around the time I started to really get into guitar and music as a whole is when I started to drink which helped curve the anxiety and anti social behavior as well so its really hard to say. It certainly helped me lyrically and did shape the way I feel think and write a lot of things in my music, and not just the lyrics as well, it's also affected how I write music as well from melody's to guitar parts etc. How has music served as an escape purpose for you? I don't know if I would say that it has. I never used music to escape I used it to discover and create purpose within my life and myself. What has been the most memorable moment in your career thus far? That's tough because I don't really view any one single moment as more or less special than another, rather another thing accomplished and another positive experience had. I guess some highlights would definitely be opening a recording studio with Gordon Raphael The Producer of The Strokes, Getting to work with Scott Montoya formerly of the Growlers as mixer on our record. Working with Anthony Braun Perry of CatSigns and formerly The Growlers as producer then giving an introduction to the label we were working with to him as well which eventually led to him signing on the label we were on. What does your single “Poppy Romance” mean to you? It's kind of got a duality to it. It was the first song I wrote when I started coming up with ideas for the first incarnation of this project. So I love the song in a way but I hate it well rather hate to think of the lyrics as its about my inner demons, letting go, drug addiction, and an an ex girl friend. It's also the first song I've ever written that I was completely proud of so yeah. What can we expect from Datánt in 2019? Maybe and hopefully a record deal! We had one but in all honesty it didn't work out in the end so I decided to move forward. Hopefully a tour. I'm actually putting together a lot of really cool and new stuff. Currently we are looking to hire and replace a few people so I am gonna start looking and auditioning people this week. I have big plans to start building a really cool elaborate stage set up too. Easily a top 50 Billboard record - we can't wait to hear more! Listen to "Leave A Message" here and find out below what elle d. has in store for 2019! Hey ellie! Will you please introduce yourself to our readers? Hey, I’m ellie d. (Ellie Dubin) and I’m a singer/songwriter and actress from Los Angeles! Thanks for the feature! I love music, my family and friends, and of course my dog Scooby. When did you realize you had to make music your life passion? I have been singing and performing probably since I was 3 years old. I remember putting on performances for my brothers when I was growing up. I even made little fake paper tickets in order for them to attend. There was always music playing in our house, no matter the occasion. My dad, who was actually in a rock band in college, raised us on rock music. We listened to The Who, U2, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruce Springsteen. There was one summer I remember when I was younger, my family was in Avalon, Catalina and I saw this girl playing guitar and singing in the middle of the main town square. I thought, wow, I want to do that. So the next year, I brought my guitar, set up next to the pier, and sang for two hours while people came by. It was the best feeling. How did you discover what sound resonated with you? Although my background primarily comes from rock influence, I really started connecting with electronic music when I was in college. After attending “GRAMMY camp” a camp put on by the Recording Academy back in high school, I grew a passion for writing toplines for producers and electronic music. While in college, I started working with producers on a variety of tracks and found that my voice suited the electronic world. I also love the way electronic music makes me feel. What is the message behind “Leave A Message”? I wrote "Leave a Message” as an anthem to growing up and trying to learn from the past. Many times we get stuck in the past whether it be with relationships or events and it can affect how we carry ourselves in the present. If we focus on ourselves and get don’t pulled back in, we can produce more positive energy in our lives. “Leave a Message” was also inspired by my move back to my hometown of Los Angeles after being away for four years at school. Trying to get back on track after college can be a challenge, but music and songwriting has really been guiding me. I’ve moved on, I'm home in the greatest city, and I’m getting back on track. What will you be doing musically throughout 2019? This year I plan to create a ton of new music, collaborate with as many people as I can, and hopefully write an EP.
