I am in LOVE with the sound of "Day By Day". The guitar is fresh, lively and each chord is so methodically played with style, and it blends with the bass line so smoothly. I cannot get enough of Steve’s voice, with remnants if John Mayer and Matchbox Twenty just flowing so crisply with the melodies. Give a listen to "Day By Day" here, and get to know Steve John better through the artists exclusive interview below! Hey Steve! Fantastic to chat with you! Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Hello! I am a 22 year old singer songwriter originally from Owen Sound, Ontario Canada. After high school I moved to London, Ontario to take Music Industry Arts and then later Audio Post Production at Fanshawe College. Since graduating I have started to self produce and record my own music while living and working in London. How did you find your passion for music and how do you keep that passion going? I was raised in a Christian household where we went to church every Sunday and then probably 2-3 other days in the week after school, so I was always surrounded by the music there. At one point in my life I was the frontman of my church’s youth “Praise Team”. My family also helped as my parents enrolled me in piano and guitar lessons, while my brother and sister were always there to sing along with me. I was also in multiple school Jazz Bands and community ensembles as a saxophonist. However it wasn’t until I arrived at Fanshawe for Music Industry Arts that I really found a “Passion” for music. Being surrounded by so many positive like-minded people while learning every aspect of the modern music industry was an amazing experience that I miss. Since graduation I have started to record some of the songs I’ve written and released them under the name "Steven John". I have also had the pleasure with working with my friend Samuel Sun as my Production Partner. I met Sam In school and he has Co-produced, Mixed and Mastered all of the songs i’ve released so far. I’m always writing new songs for us to work on so that’s keeping the Passion going at the moment. What inspired you to create the exceptional sound found in “Day by Day”? When producing this one I drew a lot of inspiration from the artists I was listening to at the time. So for example the octave doubling on the electric guitar near the end of the song was something I tried because I was listening to Tash Sultana a lot, and that effect is heard in some of her songs. There’s a Toronto based Producer named Verzache, that I can’t get enough of, and a lot of his songs are acoustic instrument based. So that's why I went with the acoustic guitar. When brainstorming what keys and synth sounds to use, Sam and I will listen to Snarky Puppy or FKJ for some pointers. What is the meaning behind “Day by Day” and did you have any challenges while writing it? Day by Day is about dealing with daily struggles with mental health. I wrote it just after a pretty dark time in my life and it seemed like everyone I turned to for help kept telling me that things would just get better with time, which I hated. Eventually I conformed but one concept that kind of stuck in my head which was just to take things one day at a time. However that doesn’t really sound catchy so Day by Day worked better in terms of song lyrics. After the song was written lyrically Sam and I hit a snag writing the MIDI drums for the production. With neither of us being drummers we were struggling to find the right groove for the song. In the end we reached out to our classmate Gabe Beneteau to write some midi drums for us, and then had our friends Morgan Dunbar and Jesse Shafer play and record them live. What new and exciting things can we expect from you in 2019? Well I have a lot of music coming out this year and I’m going to try and release something every month or so. I am also going to try and start playing some open mics and live shows in the Owen Sound and London area this Summer/Fall, So stay tuned for that! Tyler Sills creates an atmosphere for you to become intertwined with as one. The beat has an interesting fused together sound of lo-fi and hi-fi elements. Someone who passionately projects their voice, stories, and thoughts into their music regardless of the genre it fits in. Complications is a wonderful song and we’re sure many people will enjoy this! Tune into Tyler Sills new single "Complications" here, and keep scrolling for the artists interview! Hey Tyler, mind telling us a little bit about your background and what encouraged you to begin pursuing music? Music has always been a crucial part of my life. Growing up my family was very musically talented (singing, guitar piano, etc) So I had an interest from a very young age. I've been playing the guitar for over 10 years and have a wide variety in music tastes such as heavy metal, folk, prog rock. hip hop, rap, and many more. The past 2 years I had been learning how to record music with an at home studio I have been slowly building! Over time and through friends I discovered sampling and making beats for fun which recently grew into creating ambient Hip hop tracks. My pursuit of music has been a long journey and I finally decided to put my music out there for everyone to hear. I had to overcome my fears of judgement and just let my creative side do the work! Do your songs serve as a reflection of your personal stories and experiences? Most of my songs come from personal experiences in my life. Whether it be when my mind won't stop racing and I just need to let my thoughts go; or a path in life that is currently traveled. I seek inspiration from anywhere it comes from and It can be seen in my work, That being said I also like to have fun with music so there will always be my main goal is to have fun channeling my life into my work so everyone else may understand and enjoy it as well! Complications is a highly compelling and analytical record. Mind telling our readers a little bit about the meaning and the motivation to write it? The song "Complications" was written during a time of self contemplation. I had been making so much music and was doing nothing with it other than enjoying it for myself. I had just finished putting down vocal tracks on this song (my first time rapping on a track) and I decided that there are no more excuses; I had to start sharing my music with the world. Music has always been my passion and I knew I couldn't ever make it if I didn't try; so I put all of my judgments and fears aside and decided to release it. This song to me is about not letting anything get in your way of your dreams and goals no matter how complicated life may seem. Who have been your biggest musical influences this past year? This year my biggest influences are Mac Miller (The Divine Feminine, and Swimming) Anthony Green (Would you still be in love) Between the Buried and Me (Colors, and most albums) Billie Eilish (When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go), Chris Cornell (Audioslave, Soundgarden, and solo work). What can we expect from Tyler Sills this summer? .This summer you can expect at least a few more singles to be release (while I finish my album) Some of which will still be in the Ambient Hip hop genre and Some will be more solo Acoustic Folk. I have no shortage of creativity and only plan on releasing more and more work as time goes on.
- Claudio Ferrone Debuts His Unforgettable Experience, “Ya Trippen”
Claudio Ferrone is an Italian and Canadian DJ and producer who fuses together the mix of house and techno sounds. He has over 20 years of experience with moving together crowds and is no stranger to the spotlight. A classically trained pianist, and Jazz trumpet player, he knows how to connect with his audience using a flirtatious technique that’s natural to his personality. Passionately spinning and blending together the styles while flashing a devious smile is the way he charms his listeners. Claudio Ferrone debuts his new single titled “Ya Trippen” and it begins with an immediate dubstep introduction that’s noticeable from the rapid pace kick bass in the beginning. “Ya Trippen” has you already head bopping, fist pumping, and shoulders moving to the club like atmosphere he creates in the music. Without lyrics and vocals, Claudio Ferrone still manages to give his listener the ultimate experience with “Ya Trippen”. It’s like the more you listen to it the more hypnotized you become with the song. You find yourself lost within the rhythm and it’s an unforgettable natural high you can’t help but to love! “Ya trippen” is a trailblazing expansion that takes you through the rhythmic notions of each kick, bass, and transition. He smoothly connects the changeover where it’s rarely noticeable yet you hear it and feel it. “Ya trippen” becomes badass around the 3 minute measure, after listening to the vocalist muffled words, the beat drops and the experience becomes even more powerful. Within 8 minutes Claudio takes you on a multi colorful journey that leaves you fulfilling for more. “Ya trippen” is a record that is absolutely perfect to have the party functioned! Give a listen to "Ya Trippen" here, and scroll below for Claudio's interview with BuzzMusic! How challenging was it for you to master the art of DJing Claudio? Describe an instance where you faced an obstacle with DJing and overcame your way around it! Oh wow! It was really tough for a long time! My first attempt at DJing was using belt-driven turntables with an analog 2 channel mixer over 20 years ago. It took years of playing different music styles (from Hip/Hop to House music and everything in between) to get a feel for my own individual style and sound. One major obstacle to my DJing was transitioning to modern era equipment. I was resolute in my loyalty to my vinyl but I wanted to expand out of my confort zone to try new things. I was forced to purchase new gear a few years ago - Traktor S4 and my world completely changed! I set myself to the task of learning the new digital equipment, how to sample, remix live and apply effects in ways I had only imagined! Describe the perfect environment for you where you produce your best work? The perfect environment for me is at night - I really like the calmness that it brings. Whether it is rainy, snowy or calm, the night brings me a sense of calm and focus. Like the song said “you know I feel better... at night!" How do you manage to make your next record sound different from the previous? I like to break things up by practising remixing other styles. By introducing a completely different genre, it challenges my thought and instincts to think differently, allowing me to go back fresh to the songs that I like. Tell us about “Ya Trippen” and the overall theme for the beat? Ya Trippin’ is a track that I was casually working on when I was approached by the A/R rep from Opium Muzik Christine Cannistraci (who was asking me my Dawn’s EP - Dawn’s Dub and Dawn’s First Time). I was trying to capture a song that when people heard it, it would make them think of Ibiza. The driving baseline with the vocal samples that cut just before the base drop. She liked the Dawn’s EP and asked me to consider them for future tracks. I told her about this song and said that I could send it her way. She listened, passed it along to the Label execs and they signed it shortly thereafter. What’s next for you this summer? This summer will feature the release of another EP called “the Groove EP” May 24 on Stereophonic Records. I will be taking off to Europe in May to network and promote this EP with a stop in Ibiza for the International Music Conference and opening parties. I plan on releasing more tracks this year and building my brand up. DJing and Producing music has been a dream of mine which I am determined to make a reality. Big Runts is breaking the standards of today’s music society as their the first little man rap duo ever. Big Runts released their single titled “Broke No More” and we were impressed by the lyrical development in this record. Usually rappers tend to “flex” about what they have and the life they’re living, however Big Runts took a different approach with “Broke No More”. Instead, this dynamic duo creates an authentic delivery to the flexing generation of today’s rap! Instead of discussing what they have, they discuss what they’re aiming to achieve! In a way, they were still able to flex with a hype beat that matches the style of flex rap today. Big runts fuses together their different backgrounds to create a hit that could translate across the map! “Broke No More” is a perfect party hit due to the slapping bass we love in our rap music! You can interpret the idea that despite them being unusual from the standard rapper we see, they have the skill and twice the artistry to compete with the best. Our families basically push us to the studio, because they believe in the movement so much. They know this is our passion, this is what we love, and what we want to do for the rest of our lives. I cant imagine how bigger groups do it. Everyone has they own opinion on every detail, on the beat, the style of song, on the subject, some people like to drink to create, others like smoking, some people like it quite, some need a whole crew, plus besides the music everyone has they own life, own schedules, side hustles, families, own hobbies. Trust us, it is hard, and sometimes sacrifices are made, but everyone knows: you only get out, what you put in. Tell us about “Broke No More” and the inspiration behind it? We think the hook says it all lol "I just wanna drip in Gucci, I don't wanna be 'Broke No More' , "I Wanna Big ass house, with some marble floors, a couple cars chilling out side my door!" We all just want the finer things in life, financial comfort, the Motivation is success. How does “Broke No More” differentiates itself from your other releases? We put our heart in ALL of our music, but 'Broke No More' is just special. Everything about it, the beat is f*ckn dope !! - SiR Rollie’s Track "Stay Nice” Is Hauntingly Good
SiR Rollie is a 22 year old producer originally from Ontario, Canada who now resides in West Massachusetts, and has spent most of his life in Massachusetts. Influenced by artists such as J Dilla, Kanye, Mac Miller and Isaiah Rashad he is primarily focusing on sampling beats. SiR Rollie has been producing consistently for about 2 years. This funky track has hauntingly good beats. “Stay Nice” is an upbeat song that has our heads bobbing, with new and unique sounds right from the beginning and though it sounds free style, Itchy Lung (featured in the song), also has a very methodical way of piecing his lyrics together. The lower vocal track found scattered throughout this dope track give depth and personality. A break in lyrics gives the listener a chance to absorb the music and can really get you moving around. There is a slight change in the track found about halfway through that brings some new sounds in, as well as a comedy break where SiR Rollie is chatting with his audience, which adds a little bit of character. The different layers in this song are so subtle, but when mashed together it really creates a sound that is addicting to listen to. I’ve honestly had this song on repeat and the way the song ends makes it extremely easy to listen to it multiple times without noticing – it’s that good of a song! Give a listen to "Stay Nice" here, and keep scrolling for SiR Rollie's exclusive interview! Hey SiR Rollie! What a funky track! Can you tell us a bit about yourself? I am a 22 year old producer originally from Ontario, Canada, but I am currently based out of Western Mass. I have been producing beats for about two years consistently now as well as producing for some of my homies. I focus on sample based production and I am also completely self-taught on music theory, production, and sampling. What inspires you, artist or not, to create such a distinctive sound? Haha, that's a very tough question because I could easily rattle off a ton of musicians, let alone artists, that inspire me. But a couple of the most influential would have to be Donuts by J Dilla, MadVillainy by MF Doom and Madlib, and Faces by Mac Miller to keep the list short. All of these albums create such a vivid world to me while simultaneously providing me with new ideas every time I listen to them. No matter what, I usually pick up on something new from relistening to them. Since you focus on sampling tracks, do you like doing more freestyle songs or structured? Personally, I enjoy the freestyle structure because it gives me more room to be creative. I get a bit bored by my beats if they follow the simple hook - verse - hook - etc etc etc. If I want the sample to just ride for four bars and create tension halfway through a beat, the freestyle structure gives me that option and I think this lends itself to making distinctive beats for vocalists. Gives me a lot of tools to separate my craft from everyone else out here doing it. What are some challenges you’ve faced when creating such unique work? I think one major challenge was the learning curve of how to actually sample and produce music. No one around me really had the skill or knowledge to show me how this is done so I turned to the only place that I knew could help and that was youtube. But watching videos will only get you so far. Really it was a lot of patience, dedication, and belief that I can do this that got me through that curve and to this day I'm still learning new tricks and techniques. Still got a long way to go haha. What’s next for you in 2019? 2019 is a really big year for me. I have a fully produced project with a local rapper named T-Nug The Pheonix which should be coming sometime around fall. I also have a couple tracks with a really unique Atlanta rapper named Verso Turner. A collaboration with a local collective named Dazha Voo and co-producing my homie Itchy Lung's first album. And finally, I am planning on dropping a concept based beat tape that samples everything from Nigerian Jazz to the Twilight Zone. No release date yet on it, but I can easily say it is some of my most ambitious and best work to date. Stay connected with SiR Rollie through the artists Instagram! #BuzzMusic
- "Let You Go" Is A Thrilling Single Released By Singer/Songwriter Zach Mackey
Zach Mackey is a singer, songwriter and producer from North Carolina. He is a graduate from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) with a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Dr. Michael Rothkopf. Mackey’s goal with his music is to express the true, raw forms of emotions in each piece in order to connect with his audience. Mackey has recently relocated from North Carolina to Southern California, where he began to learn more about singing, songwriting and production. Combining his own ideology of composition to pull at people’s heartstrings and a broken heart of his own, Zach’s music has taken new strides and helped him to take steps forward on a new journey. His teacher, Dr. Rothkopf, has this to say about his music: “As an artist, [Mackey] imagines his music through fundamental human narratives. His approach, always, is to connect his listener to their innate humanity.” “Let You Go” is a new single release by Zach Mackey. One thing is certain after listening to this song: it is truly unique. The song begins with a simple and melancholic piano and the low dulcet tones of Mackey’s vocals. The first striking element of this song is the way that the chords change. There are several instances of chord changes that are definitely not conventional in popular music, but these changes are so moving because the listener doesn’t expect them. The song builds slowly, adding some synth and kick drum elements gradually. The delay of gratification in this slow build is used to great effect, and draws the listener in ever closer. The harmonies are at once haunting, yet soothing; the lyrics are melancholic, yet hopeful. Mackey has seemed to touch upon a previously untapped source of emotion in his music, some of which could probably be attributed to his formal training in composition. We highly recommend you experience this great emotional journey on “Let You Go”. Listen to "Let You Go" here, and be sure to check out Zach's personalized interview below! Hey Zach, thanks for chatting with us! So you’ve recently moved from North Carolina to the West Coast. How would you describe the difference in musical tastes and the music scene in general between the two places? Hi! Thank you guys so much for having me. Smog aside, moving to LA County has honestly been such a breath of fresh air. I was fortunate enough to go to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts back home, and wow... the talent that was around me. I was constantly getting inspiration, no matter what medium of art I was exposed too. It's the same feeling here. I feel like I'm surrounded in art again. The music scene in NC is absolutely fantastic. You could find any genre coming out of it's cities- but as you expect, Los Angeles is a gigantic hub of creativity and originality that has everything. I mean, my neighbor could be the next artist I obsess over here! That keeps me excited, and really inspires me to push myself. What is your writing process like? As a student of composition, did you develop a method early on, or has that shifted somewhat in your exploration of different types of music? It's funny actually! As a composer, I struggle terribly with writing vocal music- like, it's bad. I never saw myself pursuing much of a career writing for the voice, let alone becoming a songwriter. It's so much easier to convey a message without words for me. I don't have to think about what to say next, or really how to say it. I can just let the music flow in the direction it does, organically. I think that's the biggest difference in my process for the two. I push myself to write the lyrics first so I can really get it out right, then come up with the melody. That's when I'll begin the production process. Who would you say your biggest musical influences are? Oh goodness: Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell, Isak Danielson, and London Grammar are my go to's for music. I literally listen to these artists and get inspired daily. However, I think from a classical perspective, I'm influenced a lot by film composers (Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch) and maybe a little Mahler- which definitely pushes into my productions. You touch on an interesting range of emotions in your new single, “Let You Go”, and also you use unconventional chord changes. Would you say this is in part a product of your education in composition? "Let You Go" is definitely an interesting one. This song was written from the perspective of someone else, as if they're singing to me about how they're manipulating me. I wanted it to be enticing and very dark, but still have the sadboi vibes I always go for. I think my education in music composition only helped me achieve being able to comfortable step into and elaborate on more unconventional ideas. I love all of the colors of music, and there's so much to play with at any given moment. So why close yourself into a box of a I-V-vi-IV chord structure, you know? I really think artists are out here taking risks with their music more and more, and it's definitely paying off. New sounds and effects come out every day! Partially why I love music so much. It's such a creative playground and it's always changing. What can we hope to see from you in the near future, Zach? I just want to give people music that means something to them. Let them take my music in any direction that they need. I've always said, "music is the only journal I've been able to keep," and I want to give that same experience to listeners if I can. As far as projects are concerned, I'm currently working on two albums. One for myself (Just Boy Things), and one with my amazing singer/songwriter friend Samantha Richardson (To Look the Other Way). I will say though, beginning this process into the music industry has honestly made me fall in love with music all over again. You can expect way more music to come! - Wardach Releases Brilliant Single "Elsewhen"
Atlanta-based, independent artist and producer Wardach, has been alluring creative inspiration from varying acts such as San Holo, Flume, Alison Wonderland, and Rezz to name a few. He is heavily encouraged by the Sci-Fi genre of films, like Moon and Bladerunner 2049, which inspire the theme behind his upcoming album Jovian. Jovian meaning “of Jupiter” was chosen because he felt as though it was a good word for communicating the feeling of out of place. This 8 song album will be jam packed with songs about confusion regarding identity, purpose, and relationships. “Elsewhen” just so happens to be a favorite of Wardach and I am eager to see why! First I must start with mentioning Wardach choice of artwork. It’s simple but the small details really draw your attention into it. Collaborating with artist and showcasing their talent with his art is really dope! It gives both artists a chance to shine. What an amazing composition. And I say composition because this was a well composed song. I really enjoy the Sci-Fi ambiance that I get from this song. Almost like it is from a different world! You can literally get lost in this song. The layers go so deep that you almost need to keep it on repeat to catch everything because you may miss it the first time! I have a true appreciation for artists that can take me on a journey through their music. Phenomenal vocals and instrumentals Wardach! Catch "Elsewhen" now on Spotify, and keep reading for Wardach's exclusive interview with BuzzMusic! Hello there! Could you please introduce yourself to our readers? Hi Buzz-Music, thank you so much for taking the time to interview me. I really appreciate it! My name is Wardach, and I’m an electronic music artist and producer in the Greater Atlanta, Georgia area. What and/or who influenced your love for music? The first style of music that I really connected with was metalcore (bands like Underoath and Norma Jean) when I was in high school. The passion and heavy breakdowns in that style of music still affect me and how I write today. Sci-fi continually influences me as a catalyst for my imagination. And stylistically, I think Flume and San Holo are pretty big inspirations. I love what those two guys do. Can you tell me the inspiration behind the track Elsewhen and why it is your favorite track? Elsewhen is inspired by a few different things. It’s a song about feeling far away from someone you love because of some sort of obstacle, whether it’d be emotional, geographical, circumstantial, or something else. “Elsewhen” is a word that alludes to time travel or an alternate timeline (very nerdy). In my life I’ve had some relationships and potential relationships that fell through where I thought, “if we had only met at a different time in life, maybe this would have worked out.” There’s a level of helplessness in that thought that really inspired the song. Beyond that, I’m not sure if there's a particularly interesting reason as to why it’s one of my favorite tracks other than simply liking how it turned out. My good friend Jasmine Watkins sings on it, and I really like her voice. Creating music with friends often makes the experience a little more special, so that might be why I like it so much. What is your ultimate goal with music? I have a lot of different goals for music, such as traveling, touring, making a decent living solely through music, and collaborating with fellow artists I admire, so this is actually a somewhat difficult question. A really good question though! Ultimately, I want to be the best musician I can possibly be and the best performer I can possibly be. I plan on making music for the rest of my life, and I’ve only been doing this for a few years, so I just want to keep growing as an artist for the next 20 and see where that takes me. When can we expect Jovian to release? Jovian, my debut album and hopefully the first of many, actually releases very soon (April 30, 2019). I hope you like it. Thanks for everything! Tim LaRoque went to Fort Lauderdale High for his first two years of high school, and then South Broward for his last two. At Fort Lauderdale he met Greyson Auclair, and he met the rest of the band (Lenny Arias, Arturo Llapa, Sebastian Silva, Anthony Bucci) at South Broward. What brought you to write “Crazy for Life”? It’s a metaphor for how it feels to be rejected. When you are hurt by someone, your initial instinct is to want to inflict pain because you are in pain. The music came very naturally once I realized how much weight the lyrics held, it’s almost spooky and feels like it should be a Halloween song. But don’t take it as if we’re murderers or anything.. it’s just a story! We promise! What are some key artist inspirations for the unique sound The Summit has? The Beatles, Elton John, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin.. lots of old school, classic rock. But, we still have a very modern sound. What is next for The Summit through 2019? We’re touring nonstop throughout South Florida, doing shows to promote our upcoming release “Def Cat.” We released an EP for Def Cat on BandCamp earlier this week, the full album is due sometime towards the end of the summer. It’ll be on all streaming services, like Spotify and Apple Music! - Get Ready To Groove With This Trailblazing Hit! Beezi & Shawn Goyer “O- Town”
Beezi and Shawn Goyer are two producers/engineers who transformed an old party house they lived in during college into a studio. With so many past memories and good friends in and out the house, many would join them in creating musical art. This way, song arrangements began piling up between the both of them, and with such serious productions, they were faced with the choice of what to do with those sessions. The solution? Simple, they decided to create these projects into an EP titled “The Pause Collection”. During production, they found that the songs captured the moment in time of pure fun and excitement. Beezi and Shawn released the single “O-Town” in which immediately begins with an atmospheric funky introduction. The psychedelic haziness surrounding the song with an infectious melody and danceable groove that seizes the moment is what I didn’t know I need at the moment! The song is just a celebration! It exudes positive elements and radiates a vibe of happiness. The vocals matched the charisma of “O-Town”. The vocalist doesn’t try to do too much but to simply let loose with their resonance the way the beat and rhythm of O-Town lets loose. While listening to “O-Town” you just instantly feel joyful. It has classic elements of early bubblegum pop that adds a 60’s & 70’s flare to the song. Alongside that, is the disco like qualities of the song in which evokes a sense of wanting to get up and dance. This the perfect song to play this summer to cherish memorable moments with you and your friends. “O-Town” breathes life into a dead body and it’s an unforgettable encounter that you’d want to experience again. Who doesn’t love the natural high, chills, and goosebumps you feel from a feel-good song? You experience all and more while listening to this transporting hit groove! The entire essence? To have a good time and live in the moment. Take a moment and listen to "O-Town" now on Spotify, and scroll down for the groups exclusive interview! What or who are some of your key influences and why? Groove and foundational rhythm is everything when it comes to Beezi’s musical influences. As the electric bassist and co-product for the project, the influence is heavily saturated in classic funk, RnB & disco. When the rhythm of a song can make someone irresistibly move their body - that’s when you know you’ve got a groovy musical foundation. For Shawn, producing from the Ableton Push and playing guitar are always his two studio necessities. For guitar influences, Derek Trucks & John Mayer are the most prominent due to how both musicians have a way of making a guitar sound like a lead vocalists. When it comes to song production, both producers listen to all genres for inspiration, however most of the process comes naturally or in the moment during jam sessions or pre-production. But the most important factor is keeping every recording session organic. Whether it’s with clients or friends, an organic & fun approach to music always brings the production to life.. you can really feel that emotion in the record. Tell us about “O-Town” and the meaning behind it? It’s just about having a great time in your city, wherever that may be. For us, this city was Orlando, Florida. We designed a funky beach vibe that encourages you to groove, smile, dance, or just enjoy life. The title O-Town came naturally to both producers while planning a trip to visit a mutual best friend who just recently moved to Orlando for a job. This friend was an old roommate who experienced the making of The Pause Collection EP. His job placement marked a crazy yet progressive and exciting transition for us all from one life chapter to another. When creating the music we wanted to compose a groove that emulated that excitement within an uptempo beach-vibe groove. What inspired you to create “O-Town” ? When the track began production, a subtle 80’s style approach was used. By blending gated percussion with feel good synthesis sounds, O-Town came to life. After Shawn built the beat, Beezirecorded the electric bass in one take, sometimes playing intentionally out of the pocket to keep things extra groovy. However, the biggest inspiration was when both producers were driving down to Orlando to visit an old roommate. During the long drive, both producers would swap who was driving every few hours. When Beezi wasn’t driving, he would be making edits, and when Shawn wasn’t driving he was coming up with lyrics - all while plugging into the car rental stereo system via six cable (talk about mobile production on wheels!). It was during this road trip down to Orlando, where the music production met lyrics and the vibe of O-Town was born into existence. How does the title reflect the theme of the song? If you think about Orlando, you might think about warm weather, beaches, beautiful amusement parks & great company. The producers named it O-Town during the road trip to Orlando as if the entire journey and song production process seamlessly tied together. After Shawn finalized lyrics, both producers returned home after the Orlando trio to cut the final vocals. During this session, another close friend, Tony, came to hang out in the home studio. After a few laughs and ideas, Tony was convinced to go into the vocal booth and vibe out a freestyled hook. His improvised hook (which was originally recorded just for the hell of it) made the final cut of the song, and became the song’s staple hook that is hard to get out of your head... “O-Town are you feeling me?” What’s next for you two? Lots of singles! Right now, Beezi recently released the single “Beautiful Mess”, which is a separate production from the EP. Shawn also released his latest single “Coming Back Stronger” a few weeks ago. There’s a lot of plans up the producer’s sleeves; collaborative projects that circle the globe with musicians from all over. The main objective is to maintain constant collaboration and to deliver music production to other artists or clients who are looking for both quality & groove. As for the single O-Town, it is off of an EP titled “The Pause Collection” which comes out April 24th on all streaming services. And of course, there’s many more productions to come! - Naomi Releases The Unfading Hit “Heyy”
Naomi is a singer and songwriter hailing all the way from Long Beach California. She’s been singing and writing music ever since the tender age of 6 years old, and grew up performing and participating in several musical theater productions. She self-describes herself as a proud “Theater Geek”, and her music falls under the genre of pop influenced by RnB and lofi. Naomi released her single titled “Heyy” and it was groundbreaking. “Heyy” instantly carried me into the early 2000’s , a time period many may describe as the highlighting era of RnB and pop music. Many classic, and timeless music was created during this time and “Heyy” just brought “Feel good” emotions all around. Your mood endures a complete 360 due to the joyful energy presented. Not only is the song iconically classic, it embodies the contemporary subdued, smooth rnb and pop that’s popular on the radio today. Naomi has a voice of silk, and it’s undeniably memorable. This texturized tone is what highlights her as one of today’s promising new artists. “Heyy” creates a vibe that just feels satisfying and puts you at ease. Sometimes we need a good song that can help relieve the day to day stress we experience as humans and “Heyy” is the song for that. With an enchanting vocal articulation, a fusion of transporting rnb elements, and a natural star appeal to her music, Naomi could possibly be the next perpetual diva in the music industry! Listen to "Heyy" here and get to know more about Naomi below! Hello Naomi! Growing up with a theatrical background, how does this benefit your style of music you create today? Growing up with a theatrical background, has taught me the importance of self expression. Through theater I was able to release all of my thoughts, feelings and emotions through the characters I would play. I’ve always been a sensitive person and for the longest time I was ashamed of my sensitivity because a lot of people couldn’t understand me. This was a good and bad thing because I often got labeled as the “weird girl” or a “drama queen.” However, I believe having the opportunity to express myself through theater now emulates through my music. All of the songs I create are partly influenced by the different roles I currently play in my life as a sister, daughter, student, intern, girlfriend, entertainer, etc. When I create music, I create it with passion because that is the only way I know how to release my emotions and create good music. Do you have any specific music influences? If so who and why? My music is influenced by anything and everything. I’ve very observant and I strongly believe in creating something out of nothing. I also believe in finding inspiration through other artists. For instance, I’m a huge Masego fan. He’s always creating projects from scratch and does a great job at adding his own style to his music. He keeps his lyrics very simple and focuses more on having people vibe with his music rather than relate to it. Masego’s originality is very inspiring to me. I’m also inspired by Summer Walker, Khalid, Jorja Smith, Ama Lou and many other amazing artists for those same reasons. Tell us about “Heyy” and the meaning behind the song? “Heyy” insinuates the start of a text conversation that millennials will write when they are about to express their thoughts and feelings to someone they like but may not love. In this case, the song for me clearly communicates the start of that difficult conversation of telling a person you don’t want to be with them anymore but you still care for them. The song sounds like Pop and RnB but it is unique because it has influences of lofi hip-hop. What’s the perfect environment that channeled your motivation in writing “Heyy”? One summer night I stayed up very late overthinking about someone I really like. We all have those nights. We usually feel really giddy or really anxious. In this case, I was anxious because I couldn’t help but contemplate if I still wanted to be in a relationship with this person. Instead of reacting and texting this person at 2am, I decided to write a song about what I’d say if I was brave enough to text this person my true feelings. At the time I didn’t have the proper equipment to make music. So the song was actually recorded in my bed, on my phone, using a music app called Allihoopa which unfortunately went out of business. I never expected the song to come out at as good as it did. “Heyy” will always be my baby. What’s next for you, Naomi? I have very exciting projects coming up that I can’t wait to share with the world. I’m about to graduate from CSU Long Beach and plan on devoting most of my time to music. I’m currently finishing up my EP that will be released this summer along with the “Heyy” music video. I will also be performing with other artists at different venues throughout LA county starting next month!
