- Catching "Chills" With The Latest From NYK
NYK is a contemporary R&B artist from Shreveport, Louisiana. His career has taken him to Hollywood and many other interesting destinations. As a child, he sang in church, and this passion expanded over the years to include songwriting, acting, producing, and an involvement with the business side of the music industry. As a classically trained musician, NYK has been performing his music since the tender age of nine. A multi-faceted artist, NYK is a graduate from the American Musical Dramatic Academy in Hollywood, CA. Upon graduation in 2012, NYK went on a tour in China, which subsequently skyrocketed him to performances at places such as The Mint LA, House of Blues, Hollywood Holiday Parade and South by Southwest Music Festival, to name just a few. NYK’s debut album, “Retrospect: Vol. 1” aims to bridge the gap between 90s and new-age R&B. He is now signed to the independent record label RE-UP Records. Don't you just love a good tune that gives you all the feels when you listen to it? That's what "Chills", NYK's latest release is for us. When an artist like NYK comes around, you keep them around for a while. The song begins with a nicely open and sparse beat, leading to sumptuous vocals that immediately exhibit a certain musical maturity. The vocals then transform into a rhythmic and poetic style that is indicative of a modern musical approach, yet still retains a classic R&B feel. The combination of the elements of this song, aptly named, is certainly capable of giving you “Chills”. The production of the track is flawless. NYK definitely knew the artistic vision when creating "Chills" and executed it to the fullest extent. Open up your feel good playlist and put this song at the TOP. It's the motivation you've been craving for. Bravo NYK! Listen to "Chills" here and get to know NYK in our interview below! Growing up in Louisiana, was singing in church a large reason for your long-standing interest in music and songwriting? Absolutely, the south is still very much rooted in the church so it just helped me develop things and build a foundation for my passion. I think church music has a lot of influence in R&B music, which was kind of a segway onto the path I am now. You seem to have many talents. As a trained actor, do you find that you bring some of that training and knowledge to your musical process? Definitely! It allows me the ability to emote what I’m trying to saying since what I’m saying is basically a much shorter version of a full script. Also on a visual aspect of things it gives me the creative eye to see a vision and be expressive in a manner that can be relatable without being awkward. I feel comfortable being in front of a camera and not just a mic. Is there a particular message or meaning behind your new single, “Chills”? "Chills" is about falling in love and not being afraid. Being completely head over heels and infatuated with someone. That feeling you get when you look at someone you love should be the feeling you get when you listen to the song. Who would you say are your primary musical influences? Why? I believe Michael Jackson and Prince has had some type of influence on everyone’s music, definitely mine for sure. I grew up listening to Usher and watching all his videos. I’d say he is one of the biggest influences on my music and not just on a musical aspect but as a performer as well. Miguel and Frank Ocean too because they have the ability to fit so many different genres into one sound. I don’t want to be cookie cutter with my music, I like to push the limits. What does the future have in store for NYK? I mean the possibilities are endless, I want to conquer it all. More shows, better content for sure. I’d love to start touring and break into some movies. All things entertainment really, once I’m established I want to start developing and funding potential artists who aren’t so lucky in whatever situation they may be in. There’s so many people in the world that need help and we should touch as many lives as possible. - Music Video Premiere: Rose Cora Perry & The Truth Untold Release New Video “Easy Prey”
Rose Cora Perry is a product of the 90s and she’s not going to let anyone forget that! A personal favorite of former MuchMusic VJ Bill Welychka and acclaimed as one of the top 10 indie talents in Canada, Perry’s dynamic stage presence and songwriting have made her the subject of many a media exposé. As the former frontwoman of a major label signed grunge quartet “Anti-Hero”, it wasn’t long before Perry rediscovered her footing as a fiery electric guitar-wielding band leader for her latest passion project, The Truth Untold, which was formed in 2016 to promote Perry’s solo endeavour. In the three years since they’ve formed, The Truth Untold have already played for audiences of over 200,000, sharing the stage with the likes of SmashMouth and Platinum Blonde, and performing at some of the music industry’s premier events including Vans Warped Tour, Summer NAMM and International Pop Overthrow. Today, BuzzMusic is proud to premiere The Truth Untold’s latest single and music video from their upcoming EP, “Easy Prey”. Beginning with an aggressive beat and authoritative rhythm guitars, by contrast Perry’s vocals in the first verse begin calmly, even sweetly. The chorus that follows is intense, melodic, and incredibly catchy. One can easily see what Perry means when she describes her music as the marriage of chugging guitars and operatic vocals. The vocals of the chorus are complex and layered, with a myriad of harmonies and countermelodies weaving seamlessly in between the lead vocals. The music video is solemn, featuring Perry and another man tied up and bound in chairs with white linens facing away from each other. Throughout the video, Perry can be seen singing with her guitar in hand, in the chair as a prisoner forced to take drugs, and taking selfies in a forest just before being kidnapped by a hooded figure. This creates a unique and interesting sense of time-lapse, with Perry being showcased in multiple situations that could be related to each other but do not happen chronologically. “Easy Prey” is a great nod to music from a different age, and the music video sparks interest in a sea of generic modern videos. We highly recommend you check out the latest offering from The Truth Untold, it won't disappoint. Check out the song and video below and get to know The Truth Untold in our interview below! Hey, thank you so much for chatting with us! Would you mind starting off by describing your background and how you first got involved with music, guitars and songwriting? I began singing at the age of four and writing songs at age seven, though I didn’t pick up the guitar (to accompany myself) til I was a teenager. As a kid I had high hopes that maybe someday I’d end up on broadway like my idol Sarah Brightman, but life – as it were - had other plans and I found myself inadvertently being recruited into my first rock band at 15. I haven’t looked back since. I guess you could say I always had the “attitude” and love of being on stage to be a successful rock frontwoman. I just didn’t realize until I was in highschool how truly liberating and empowering this style of music is. When all else fails to convey one’s emotion, wailing on an electric guitar is a hell of a release. As a 90s child, who would you say your biggest musical influences are, either from that time or any other? Vocally and songwriting-wise, it’s a tie between Alanis (I am Canadian after all!) and the late great Chris Cornell. I am astounded, inspired and in awe of both of them. Truly. Instrumentally, hands down Veruca Salt. They have been my favourite band since I witnessed Nina and Louise jumping wildly on bungie cords in the “Volcano Girls” music video circa 1997. I remember when I saw that video for the first time, I immediately thought, “I want to be that badass.” You just released a new single called “Easy Prey” which also has a video. What was your general idea and concept behind either the music or the video, and did the video idea come about as you were writing the song or after it was done? Writing songs, for me, always comes first with music videos being an excellent supplementary way to delve a little deeper symbolically than lyrics may allow. “Easy Prey” was inspired by our current social and political climate: while access to information has never been greater, nor has the amount of misinformation and propaganda that is being circulated. The song “Easy Prey” urges listeners to question the credibility, objectivity and trustworthiness of everything which is being presented to us rather than just “digesting” the “lies” and “hatred” we’re being “spoonfed”. The digital age and social media, in particular, promote (in my view) rather problematic values/behaviours: from narcissism to prejudice to anonymous cyber-bullying to being surrounded exclusively by “yes men”. We live in an era where the ability to communicate is unlike it’s ever been before, and yet we are communicating so very poorly (and superficially) with each other and the content we are sharing is questionable (at worst) or nothing more than “distractionism” (at best) from what really matters. In other words, think for yourself – don’t be “Easy Prey”. Would you mind delving a little bit into your songwriting process? How does it all come together? It always starts with a melody popping into my head, followed by an idea for lyrical content. I’ll start humming the tune - figuring out where it’s going to go - and then I’ll grab my guitar and chord out the arrangement. Typically, my songwriting spurts are tied heavily to emotional moments in my life. In other words, I write best when I’m either sad, angry or both. Lol. I’m a rock musician so I guess it comes with the territory. If only a fragment of a song is there, I’ll record it and revisit it at another time. But, I generally try to play through the inspiration to see if there’s potential there for something really powerful. What can we hope to see from Rose Cora Perry & The Truth Untold beyond the release of “Other Side of the Story”? Once again we’ll be embarking on tour to the US for “Part Deux” of the “Canadian Invasion” along with performing select dates throughout Southwestern Ontario this summer and fall. - Jump Moon's "Well" Is Everything You Need In Your Life Right Now
Canadian rock band Jump Moon based out of Oakville, Canada debuted their first full-length studio album“Paranormal Activity”. The band, consisting of four members; Mourad Iskander, Erick Chavez, Nick Bellingshausen and Gabriel Moore delivered a tune that's got our attention! “Well”, one of the singles on Paranormal Activity has got to be one of our favorite tracks on the year! It's a soft and powerful track that consists of acoustic guitars and a modern rock feel. The band provides a beginning guitar riff that delves into the melodious vocals and lyrics. You know when you're sitting around a campfire and everyones tapping their hands to their knees and a sing-a-long starts amongst your group? "Well" is the song that you'd be singing. We totally find ourselves getting lost in a happy moment while listening. A walking rhythm of drums and guitars brings us to the bridge of empowerment through both lyrics and music. Jump Moon has a certain vibe to them that trails alongside modern rock music and alternative indie. The track is such a solid staple off of their album and gives you a good glimpse of who the band is about and what their visions is as artists. As the song comes to end, we hear the intensity of vocals and slight grit as the song finally comes to a more classic rock sound similar to that of bands like The Doors and The Who. So sit back, relax and let "Well" bring you to that happy place you're craving for. Listen to "Well" here and get to know the band in our interview below! Would you say that your music leans towards more of the alternative side of rock, why or why not? The album Paranormal Activity contained many genres of music. Some songs such as “The Exchange” were slow. Other songs such as “Paranormal Activity” were more fast paced. We consider ourselves more of a rock band since we haven’t found our signature sound yet. Therefore, we can expand, and even specialize in the wide variety of sub-genres within rock. We don’t want to categorize ourselves into one genre because we see that as kind of boring. We want to connect with as many people as possible, easy way to do that… Give them more options. Who are a few of your biggest musical influences? How have your influences impacted your music creation? We all grew up listening to different bands or artists. Thanks to that, the album has various styles and genres per song. Here are a couple of artist that influenced us while writing the album. Gabriel (Bass): My main influence was Chromatics. They turn ambient music into rock music, which I found really clever. Because of the transformation from genre to genre, the bassist creates amazing bass lines, which I have inspired from and wrote my own bass lines for this album. Mourad (Drums, Lyrics): My main influences have to be Muse and Coldplay. I grew up listening to those bands, amongst many others. Since they have been in the majority of my life, they’ve acted as a big influence when it comes to writing music, in the lyrics side as well as the melodically side. I always looked at Dominic Howard (Drummer from muse) as my idol. Nick (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar): My main influence is Sticky fingers. They way that they combine rock and reggae music, I find that really interesting. Therefore, I used them as inspiration for input in the band and the album in order to achieve a more versatile sound mostly in vocals. Erick (Lead guitar): I listen to mostly rock music, more specifically punk rock. Bands such as Green Day, Rise Against, bands from other genres such as: Muse, Arctic Monkeys as well as classic rock such as Def Leppard, Poison, etc… but the base has always been pure rock. Most of my guitar riffs and solos are inspired by all these bands, and many more. It’s what my dad listens, so it’s what I grew up listening. So, when it comes to writing music, that’s mostly all I know. What is the concept of your album of “Paranormal Activity”? The album talks mainly about a person whose being controlled and caged by his past, his emotions and his inner demons. The album starts by introducing the idea of what the person is going through in the song “Paranormal Activity” and it ends by the person being, let’s say… a slave to his demons, and can’t matters into his own hands anymore. As the album progresses we see various emotions from the protagonist such as love and hate. For example, all the love songs we have on this album always take a dark twist towards the end and that is to emphasize the point that no matter what decision the protagonist takes, the controller, let’s just call him that, always has his say and takes the final stand and makes his own mind not caring about the consequences that the person will suffer. The album ends with a deep song “the exchange” , the song basically explains how helpless the protagonist has become and how after trying almost everything to get rid of the controller he has failed, the song has to be pictured as if the scenarios the song presents are occurring in the mind of the person as he’s asking questions like: is this my end? When will this be done? Can anyone help? So, the person hopes to receive an answer before it’s the end of him. This album is to set an awareness of the effects of holding on to past demons and encourages to forgive your past and move on for a brighter and better future. Do you plan on going on tour in the future? It’s always been a goal of ours to perform in other places other than Toronto. To meet as many people that enjoy our music here in Canada as well as in the US, and if we are fortunate enough, visit more countries. What was the concept behind your song, “Well”? The song is basically a love song. It talks about the feeling of love rather than the idea, so it sparks from the guts rather than the mind. It talks about how someone cherishes the other and doesn’t want to leave them no matter what. The protagonist in that song, discovers the feeling to be loved for the first time and doesn’t know how to react to such a feeling. He starts doing the impossible to ensure that the emotion of love is real and not a hunch. What can we expect from you in the coming months? Our main goal is to release a new single “one moment” in these upcoming months. We are also looking forward to the summer, we are hoping to be performing at various festivals such as “Sound of Music” as well as “NXNE.” Other than that, simply play as many shows as we can! Watson spent many years performing at music venues across New York City, including the Bitter End and Rockwood Music Hall. Watson’s voice is soothing, soaring, and can instantly cause one to feel relaxed. The vocals are delivered with sincerity, skill, poise, and the simplicity and tasteful sparseness of the arrangement allows the voice to shine through gloriously. The choruses exhibit a dream-like quality with the tenderness of the background vocals. The chorus and verses are nicely broken up with a short guitar riff, and the verses that follow also make use of the calming quality of the background vocals, amounting to a slowly building song that just keeps on giving. The whole song is beautifully written, arranged and executed, and we can’t recommend this talented artist enough! Be sure to add Christopher's "The Sweetest Thing" to your Spotify playlist, and scroll below for this artists exclusive interview with BuzzMusic! Hey Christopher! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us. Can you start us off by describing your background and how you originally got started on your musical journey? I was born to West Indian parents, Mom from Haiti and my Dad is from Jamaica, so music wasn't on the plate as a profession. Music kind of just followed me and revealed the artist in me. As that artistic spirit grew, I was able to see how this isn't just a passing thing. I need to create and share music to stay alive. Growing up in Tampa, Florida, what was the music scene around you like? My music influence came mostly from my mother growing up. When I switched over to the drums I got more interested in punk and rock music. I played snare in my High School Drumline and also on Sunday's at church. Who would you say your biggest influences on your music are? Jon Gibson. He is a Christian and Soul music artist from back in the day, my mom had his CD on repeat. Stevie Wonder can communicate on every level. John Mayer. So many blues artists, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Little Walter. You have a new single, “The Sweetest Thing”. The song captures a sweet mood nicely, but is there a deeper meaning or message behind the music in this case? This song is simply about the love of God. I've seen a lot of triumph and heartbreak in my life and Jesus has been the only one to see me through it. He blessed me with the most wonderful family. My cousin Alex Knight is featured on the song and he has also been a heavy influence in showing my how good God is. What can we hope to see from Christopher Watson in the future? I'm releasing my EP "The Sweetest Thing" in April so stay tuned for that. I don't stick to one genre. Music and songwriting in particular is too fluid for that. My next single is "Booty." It's a banger. Connect with Christopher Watson via the artists website and social medias: Facebook Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic
- J.Morgan Releases His Single "James Brown Bad"
J.Morgan is a prolific rhyme slinger based in the Bay Area. This artist has been making noise throughout California and beyond with his work ethic and consistency. With talent at a high caliber, he’s equipped with vivid lyrics, quality production and exceptional rhyming skills. J.Morgan released his single titled “James Brown Bad”. “If you feeling yourself, let me see bad, James brown bad, James brown bad.” The hook sings and what I got from listening to this fun record is that “James Brown Bad” is the perfect provocative hit for you to vibe to alongside a special someone. The sensual energy this song projects is a high reflective of J.Morgan’s suave persona. When the synthesizers and funky drum kicks sets in, the song emerges as a groovy hip-hop hit with elements of pop. With a feature from another vocalist who has that correct swag in her voice to emphasis the seductive lyrics, “James Brown Bad” is a record you can’t help but to become addicted too. I mean, I already found myself constantly repeating the hook over and over to myself even when I wasn’t even listening to the song. This is an indicator that J.Morgan's recent single has that special effect on its listeners where it becomes stuck to us like glue. The rap was my personal favorite component of the song. He delivered a consistent flow with bold and raunchy lyrics in a medium to long time measure with a tempo not too fast and not too slow, but just right. J. Morgan’s lyrics convey a musical diary of sorts; his records are fun, honest, personal and touch on matters close to the heart. J.Morgan matches these songs with cinematic videos that he executive produces, curating himself as a versatile and multifaceted creator. Here we have a brilliant lyricist who isn’t afraid to go above and beyond with his music to make sure his listeners is hooked as well as content with the enjoyable bops he releases such as “James Brown Bad”. Listen to "James Brown Bad" on Spotify, and check out J.Morgan's interview below! The Bay Area has sometimes been classified as the “Hyphy” area of hip-hop. How does growing up in this environment with that cultural reputation impact and influence your personal style of music? I grew up during the hyphy era which was an awesome experience and ultimately it’s what made me realize that I wanted to contribute to the scene. I have been influenced by many great artists like Mac Dre, E40, Too Short and Lil B just to name a few. I think you can hear the Bay Area in my music. Tell us a little bit about “James Brown Bad” how did the feature with Stife and Andrezia help enhance the record!? James Brown Bad represents an attitude and lifestyle. When we get into our mode we’re JAMES BROWN BAD! Stife produced the track and came up with the hook and I immediately knew where I wanted to take it. We were blessed to connect with Andrezia because she really took the record to the next level with her style. When shooting the video, what was your initial vision for the song? Answer: I wanted to take it back to the 1970s for the video to tie everything in with James Brown and that era of music. I knew I wanted to have a crazy wardrobe and a hippie vibe. I really love how everyone executed this so well for this video. When listening to your own music, do you ever find any areas in the song that you wish you would’ve improved on from your artistic viewpoint? I always want to level up so yes. I listen to my own music and search for areas I could improve whether it be the vocal delivery, beat selection, lyrics or whatever. I always am trying to improve my sound. How do you manage to keep growing and evolving your sound as an artist? I try to be open to new ideas that may not necessarily be mine. I love being around other artists who push me out of my comfort zone which is why I think James Brown Bad cane out so well. Stife and Andrezia challenged me to create something different and unique. What's next for you through 2019? Answer: I’m dropping a new album this summer titled “Can I Live”. I am playing at the “Once Upon A Time in The LBC” music festival this July in Long Beach California. I have some other big shows in the works too! I’m just trying to level up in all aspects this year, continue to push myself out of my comfort zone and make new music! - Jaimie Steck Is Radiating With New Single "Full Moon"
Jaimie Steck is a pop singer and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. She is unique in this day and age of the music industry as she combines two art forms: music and dance. Her aim is to incorporate a thrilling performance into her music, whether through her music videos or live performances. Her ultimate goal is to bring back the multi-faceted showmanship of pop music that has been gradually disappearing. As a songwriter, Steck lets her inner voice speak through her lyrics while bringing power and entertainment value through visuals. Fueled by inspiration from artists such as Britney Spears, Janet Jackson and Madonna, Jaimie Steck is making her mark on today’s music industry with her fresh take on pop music. BuzzMedia is thrilled to present a new single by Jaimie Steck called “Full Moon”. Speck’s voice is immediately captivating, and there is definitely a tangible “old-school” vibe to the beat and the verse. The synths create a background quality to this song that sets an eerie vibe. The track is well produced with background vocals that complement the lead vocals nicely. The themes of darkness shine nicely through the entire song, complete with a “howl at the moon” moment towards the end. This is a great example of a modern take on an old-school hip hop style, and Steck seems quite confident in bringing this sound and energy to her music. We highly recommend you give “Full Moon” a listen on Spotify, and check below for Jaimie's exclusive interview with BuzzMusic. Hey Jaimie! Thanks for catching up with us. Can you start by telling us a little bit about your background and how you got into music and songwriting in the first place? Thank you for having me! I am a singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. I grew up in Orlando where I used to put on mini concerts in my living room and use the “American Idol” Wii Karaoke game as an excuse for not doing my homework. I would say, “Mom, I’m doing research and practicing!” I longed for the performance rush and musicality that comes with being a singer. One day I finally decided “If this is what my dream in life really is, why am I not going for it?” So, thats what I did. With songwriting, I can remember it being a source of expression since I was a young child. I remember having a black and white notebook of songs I wrote dating back to the second grade. Eventually my random words grew into dozens of songs with lyrics inspired by my own heartbreak, confidence, or the simplicity of sitting next to a stranger on a plane. You talk about combining art forms in your music. Where did you get the inspiration to combine dance with your music? Has that always come naturally to you? The inspiration to combine dance with my music came from my own personal joy of seeing it. Watching someone like Britney Spears have full out dance routines that in part were just as iconic as the song itself. Watching her fired up something inside of me, and I concluded that if I was going to create art I would compliment it with meaningful choreography. I believe you have to go the extra mile above what comes naturally to become supernatural. I am fortunate enough to be doing what I love to do and expressing myself in life that also liberates me. In turn I am hoping that inspires others to appreciate and enjoy their lives to the fullest by following their hearts. Who would you say your biggest artistic influences are? Oh. Britney Spears. If you couldn’t tell? The way she redefined her era by making sure every performance she did whether in a Pepsi commercial, VMA performance, or tour was it’s own handcrafted spectacle. I knew when I tuned in, I was prepared to see a show, paired with songs that made me want to get up and dance. I also feel influenced heavily on the business side of the music industry by Beyonce. She is an example of someone who puts her mind, soul, and body into every aspect of her brand and image. She truly redefines the boundaries until everything is flawless (no pun intended). I am very meticulous about what I want presented in the world, and I am inspired and encouraged by Beyonce's work ethic and passion. It validates my own pursuits and precision in a way. You have a new single out called “Full Moon”. You do a good job bringing the darkness vibes to the table. Did you have a particular message or meaning behind the music in this case? The concept for Full Moon is a “sexy, dark anthem” especially in regards to the production. If you really listen you can hear the double meaning. I was heavily influenced by “Genie In A Bottle” by Christina Aguilera and how it paralleled discovering yourself and a mystical being. I wanted to write a song about discovering your sensuality with a person. When you are able to be free and to be your true unfiltered self with someone, without judgement. I also wanted to play around with the intention of the song. Is she singing about being intimate with a lover or is she really a werewolf exposing her secret transformation? I really enjoyed creating and finding those moments. What’s next on the horizon for Jaimie Steck? There is a lot more content coming your way and I am beyond excited. I am currently recording vocals for my second single, "Sixth Sense". I am absolutely in love with it, and I cannot wait to be able to share it with everyone. All in all, its now go time. I have finally introduced myself into the world of pop music and I do not to plan on slowing down anytime soon. I am grateful for all of the positive feedback and support so far as an emerging artist. I cannot wait to share what is in store. Remember to check out "Wasted Time" on Spotify and scroll below for Corina's exclusive interview with BuzzMusic! Congratulations on your latest single “Wasted Time”, thank you for speaking with us. What is this songs meaning to you? This song is pretty literal, it's about dating someone that you're in love with and only pretends to love you back. I experienced this really intense relationship and the song came out of me one day and it was originally just a melody I'd sung and I thought it was going to be like a Michael Jackson type song. Definitely took a different direction once I put keys behind it and started working with Alex Rosales, but the song is just about giving up on loving someone whose feelings are reciprocated. I found it interesting how you learned to write songs through poetry and freestyle rap and now through song. Is there one form of art you find most cathartic? I definitely find freestyling the most cathartic whether it be rapping or singing, just improvising to me is the most soul cleansing. Maybe that and performing in general but when I freestyle, I used to tap into this place that felt rather holy and I'm not a religious person. I haven't been there in a while because I've gotten more disillusioned with life and feel that words don't really mean as much anymore as they used to, but I still get glimpses of the magic and it's my favorite experience in life. Is there a particular artist you would love to collaborate with? I would really love to collaborate with J.Cole or Oh Land. They're vastly different but they're both soooo good. J. Cole is a master lyricist and has really heartfelt songs and ideas that I think I could complement well. Oh Land is just magical. Her creative ideas are something i'd love to learn more from. What influences do you take into account when you write a song? Nothing consciously. I just try to write whatever i'm feeling, I don't really think about what the influences were until after it's written. Then I'm like "Oh this sounds like this person. Like how I did with Wasted Time actually. It wasn't until after I'd come up with the melody that I realized it was influenced by MJ's music. What do you hope your music brings to your listeners? I definitely hope my music brings a sense of personal accepting and joy. I want my songs to be reflective and relatable but also really catchy. That's what I'm aiming for, to make people feel things and I'm aiming for honesty. It's a work in progress but that's my goal. Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you first became interested in music? Music has been a huge part of my life since day one. My mother has always sung and played guitar, which resulted in her making sure my brothers and I joined our school choirs and bands when we were old enough. I played piano for a while, the tuba in middle school band, and eventually discovered songwriting/rapping in high school around 16 yrs old. I'll admit, the road was a little rocky in the beginning, but I received nothing but positive feedback from my friends when I recorded my first songs. I continued writing and recording after high school, caught a little wave and started performing in Bend, and even had one of my songs make it on the radio. That's what broke ground for me and sparked my passion for making music, that's how it all started. Who would you say your biggest musical influences are? This is always a tough question because I listen to and respect so many different genres and artists across the spectrum. If I had to narrow it down though, my major influences are, Sublime, Mac Miller, Kanye West, Niykee Heaton, Blackbear, Mike Posner and Logic. Can you describe what your writing and creative process is like? How does it all come together? Well, I start with the music. Lately, I've been working with a producer, River Beats, he is a magician. I find something that I like the vibe of and then the lyrics and rhythm kind of just come to me. I just kind of say what ever the music brings to my mind, and then go from there. When I'm writing a song on my guitar, I find a chord progression that I like and really just vibe it out. Your new single, “Doin’ Good”, has a really great confidence and positive vibe. Is this a mood or feeling that you try to impart in your music, or does that just happen naturally? Yeah I am really stoked on Doin' Good. That mood is just how I feel every day, so I guess you could say that it comes naturally. I'm just a happy boy. I have my girl, my family, my friends, my two dogs, and as long as I can wake up and do what I love every day, I'm doin' good. I wanted to capture that with this song, and feel like I did just that. What can we expect from you in the future? You can expect a LOT more music from me in the future. This is just the beginning. I'm moving to LA in July, so I hope to connect with a lot of different artists out there and continue to create music that brings good vibes into people's days and helps the world smile a little more. Listen to "City of Misery" here and scroll below for Kvng Shad's interview with BuzzMusic! Kvng Shad, great to chat with you! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your career in the music industry? I’m a chill person. I like basic things like sitting in the house chilling with my family or going to the movies. Since I was young music has always been an escape for me when I go through things my main plan is to pick up the pen. It wasn’t until my brother past I knew I had to take things to another level , I still remember when rapping or singing was just fun to me. Or just something I’d do at school with my friends. But now being the eldest of 11 siblings and my mom taking on 3 jobs now to provide for us I figured I’d step up to the mic and put my talents to work. We admire your braveness for you opening up about the loss of your brother. Do you keep him in the back of your mind when creating music? It’s like sometimes I wanna cry but instead of tearing up I speak what I feel in the studio. I miss my brother every single day but I’m not the only one my little brothers and sister, my mom, my dad, my niece.... my whole family has to deal with the pain of him being gone. So when I write my brother is everywhere in my mind the front and the back. Your tape 18:18 Legends never die is filled with many hit songs, do you have any personal favorites? If so which and why! Lol I appreciate that, my favorite songs would have to be “Depression”, “ Crash” and “F*ck the other side”. I choose these three because depression was something I had a hard time with. Crash was my song to help me deal with my trust issues when it comes to relationships and F*ck the other side is a big achievement to me. What was your inspiration behind writing “City of Misery”? Everyone in my city was dying around me. My brother Sy, Jman, Ricky... there are so many to name, and it seemed like there was no more happiness left in my city. So, this is how I expressed how I was feeling at the time. Tell us a little bit about your other release “Save Me” and what inspired you to write this heart-rendering single! “Save me is a song about my brother and honestly how I felt in my heart about his death. Once I listened to Meek Mills version I knew it was the perfect song to tell how I felt. You can also check out a little song on the web named “ Never be the same” on the Doc Robinson “Licks” album it shares a similar but more in-depth feeling surrounding my brothers death.” What's next for Kvng Shad through 2019? I have more songs that you can check out on my YouTube (Officialkvngshad), also working on major projects coming soon. This year I'm hyped to say I have shows in different countries and cities.
