  • Tara Dente Picks Herself Back Up in “Intentional Fall”

From New Jersey to Tennessee, singer-songwriter and genre-bending recording artist Tara Dente takes an "Intentional Fall" into the unknown with her newest, personal single. Tara Dente has blessed listeners with enchanting and gripping sounds in venues, parks, and streets that span the Atlantic ocean. After leading a band in Nashville for over five years, Dente decided to take a leap of faith into a solo career, thanks to the vast knowledge and experience she gathered further to evolve her craft, sound, and creative abilities. Her emotion-packed lyrics and broad vocal range never fail to impress us, and we're sure you can say the same about her fiercely emotional yet uplifting new single, "Intentional Fall." Written at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, the song discusses that jump into the unknown and no longer relying on comfort and familiarity. Recorded in Nashville's renowned Blackbird Studio, "Intentional Fall" softly opens with lush acoustic guitar melodies that linger into the soothing first verse. As Tara Dente's sweet and enchanting vocals pour down from above, she discusses sensations of wishing to find color in her life once again. While preparing to take a leap of faith with an "Intentional Fall," we shift into the stunning and chill-inducing hook. Tara Dente's shimmering vocals convey relatable lyrics about stepping out of our comfort zone to grow, evolve, and add a splash of color to your days. As the song continues, Tara Dente blesses us with a cinematic and well-rounded instrumental that grows into this powerful alternative rock atmosphere, closing the experience on a note of growth, hope, and clarity. When hope is dim and the future seems grim, give yourself that boost of motivation with Tara Dente's latest single, "Intentional Fall," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Tara Dente. We deeply admire the courage and tenacity brought forth in your recent single, "Intentional Fall." What inspired you to create this hopeful and dynamic piece? Thank you for having me and for your support of this single! This song was a necessary expression of what was inside me when it was written sometime in the late spring of 2020. I was living and working on an incredible farm and day program for adults with Autism in Red Bank, New Jersey, taking care of goats and chickens. I'm so thankful for the routine I had to keep me grounded and sane during the early moments of Covid. There were no shows, no normal community gatherings, and such, so I had a lot of time to be with myself and my thoughts (like many others). I'm so thankful for Julia Cameron's, The Artists' Way, which helped dig me out of my own subconscious and blocks and start to ask, "what do you want?" and, "how do I even do this artist thing, fully committed?". The lyrics of this song show the listener where I was at the time of my process. "Coming up a hatchling, and it's strange, 'cause once I flew in another life." ... talking about feeling like everything is in black and white now and remembering bursts of color from the past...watching my ego swirl down the shower drain, and feeling like a total beginner. Julia Cameron talks about creative and spiritual emergence as a "hatchling." Few of us have had the kind of upbringing that holds enough space for a child to express themselves and feel safe doing so fully. It can take a while to dig out that vulnerable, excited child and reconnect with one's "artist child." When I refer to that "other life" where I flew, I have glimpses of those truly free and unselfconscious times as a kid. I think it was all the time to reflect and hitting a lot of creative walls that led me to this proclamation of, "It's now or never.", "It's all in or nothing at all." because I've been doing it half-in for long enough now. And with that decision will come the inevitable falling on your face from time to time. So, it felt like I was committing to falling forward, not by mistake, but intentionally. How would you describe the sound of "Intentional Fall" in terms of genres and styles? Would you consider yourself an artist that usually bends genres? It's hard for me to pin down Intentional Fall's genre. I'd love to get feedback from folks and see where it lands with them. There are three distinct sections of the song, and it has a pretty steady climb in intensity all the way to the end. I think I'll take the wide path and call it "singer-songwriter." I do think that some of my earliest songs (many unrecorded) would fall into Alternative/Indie, and newer material feels more Americana by design. All three of those are still pretty broad, but I would say I'm returning to that Alt/Indie thread that used to run more through my songs naturally, influenced by bands like Modest Mouse, Frou Frou (Imogen Heap), and The Shins. I want to balance dark and light more gracefully in my sound and think what I do next will start to settle more into that sweet spot. What did you want your audience to experience when hearing "Intentional Fall?" What did you want them to realize or take away for themselves? I want listeners to feel my vulnerability, that I really was in a beginner's mindset when I wrote this. I may have had years behind me in songwriting and performance, but I hadn't ever fully taken the leap as an artist. If someone out there is feeling like they are about to, or want to, take a huge risk and "...rise up [to] find [their] direction magnetically" (Eddie Vedder), I want them to feel emboldened to do so by really accepting and embracing whatever stage they're in, in their emergence as an authentic being. It's never too late to step into the life you want to live. What was the most rewarding part about creating and releasing "Intentional Fall"? What did you appreciate most about the experience? I don't even remember writing the song because it happened really fast (and by that, I mean it took my whole life and 2020 to push it out), but I loved honing in on the live version of it with my band at the time, who added so much color to it. We were able to play it at Floyd Fest in the summer of 2021, and that was a huge high for me to feel that much energy behind it and collaborate with them. The next collaboration was in the studio, with my friend Liv Lombardi co-producing the track at Blackbird studio in Nashville. I had just moved to Nashville, and my band came down from NJ to record it there. I made some new friends who Liv worked with at Blackbird, and there was insight going into it from some very talented and thoughtful people. I loved that Liv wound up coaching me with her acting background to really visualize my lyrics and the story while I was singing it. It helped to convey the emotion. The song was ready to release, but we needed some visuals. During a 39-day road trip and tour with my partner, we perched up on a steep hill overlooking an L.A. highway, and I stood in front of a giant cactus tree in a white leotard and covered in face paint to capture some images at golden hour to accompany the song on streaming platforms and socials. I love that we were able to get some colors and landscape on the west coast for the visuals because I wanted some desert vibes or something like that, and we were able to grab that before releasing the song. What's next for you? After getting a lot of rest from nearly 40 days on the road and settling back into Nashville, I am excited to write and play again. I have been writing and focusing on that daily inner work to "fill the well" and keep myself attuned. I'm always inspired when I see musicians in Nashville doing their thing, and it pushes me to keep honing in on what makes me, me. I am collecting some songs to demo at home and see what sounds I can get from my own mind and intuitive, creative direction. I used to demo at home a lot and miss that process. I'm excited to see what comes out of that low-pressure environment and whether to release what is recorded or bring it to a trusted producer in a studio. So far, I've only worked with producers in other studios and am so grateful for that experience, and I know that there's a producer in me who needs to express herself. I'm always aiming at authenticity and to capture the vision that excited me in the first place. I think I'm getting closer to it every day. I'm planning to go on another tour this spring, similar to the last one, but this time with more connections and venues to tap into. West of Nashville, down through TX, across some SW states, up through CA, and into the Pacific Northwest again. I had an amazing time up there. There are rumors of a bluegrass festival happening in OR, which I may be a part of. (You can stay up to date on my shows by visiting taradente.com). Instagram Facebook

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Splash'N Boots. Congratulations on releasing your latest uplifting album, I Am Love. What inspires your duo to continuously write encouraging and motivational children's albums like I Am Love? Thanks so much! We have always been inspired by children when writing our albums. This one was no different. We listened to the parents and kids during these last two years and wanted to write an album that would resonate with the whole family. What makes I Am Love different from your previous albums? Are there any specific themes you focussed on within this record? I think the focus of this album is truly to help children know they are enough and are so loved. I heard one parent describe this album as free therapy for kids without them knowing. In the past, we may have written more about pirates and fruit, which are great themes, but this album takes on a more loving approach to each song and dives into the fabric of feeling and feelings. What is your duo's creative process like? What was your collaborative experience writing and recording I Am Love? I (Nick, aka Splash) will bring song ideas to Taes (Boots), and we will go from there. She will either give it the green light or pause slightly, and I know that it's a no-go. Lol. I work well under pressure, so when our manager gave us studio recording time, I think I wrote and finished four songs in three days before heading into the studio. With the amazing musicians, we bring in to play. We are very open to letting them do their ‘thing.’ We love working with talented and creative people; it’s a must for the energy to write while recording. What impact do you hope to make on young or old listeners with the album I Am Love? What do you hope this album offers listeners? My hope is that children and parents feel comfort while listening to this album. We put our hearts into these songs, and the response has been very positive and relatable. We are often the soundtrack to children falling asleep; that's something we take very seriously, so hope there’s a sense of security and calmness that this album offers. Instagram Facebook

Calling all misfits, we've got a treat for you. From Cleveland to Nashville, singer-songwriter and independent recording artist Lawn gives us the rundown of her intimate and personal "Grief Diet" in a chilling new single. This Nashville-based artist knows how to command your attention. Whether she's using her fluttery and chilling vocals or serenading us with compelling words about her internal struggles, it's clear that Lawn is a force to be reckoned with in Music City's cut-throat music scene. From interning at Jimmy Kimmel to working for SongFinch as an artist, Lawn's successful career is only just beginning. She's ready to continue making waves with chilling and personal releases like her latest single, "Grief Diet," which follows the struggles, trials, and tribulations of her internal experiences with grief. From struggling to get out of bed to conversing with doctors who call you a liar—this ultra-personal and compelling song is not for the faint of heart. Diving deeper into "Grief Diet," the song softly opens with melancholy guitar strums and Lawn's emotion-rich vocals that discuss personal themes of mental health and raising awareness for these common struggles. This song feels like a page ripped out of Lawn's diary, as her lyrics continue chilling the listener with incredibly emotional details about her experience with grief. Lawn's softspoken vocals and dreamy melodies paired with such emotional lyrics feel like listening to some of the top soul-stirring artists like Phoebe Bridgers and Taylor Swift, but with Lawn's own authentic, cinematic, and honest spin. This entire song is a true treat for the ears, and it provides listeners with a sonic blanket of comfort with relatable themes about our varying experiences with grief. Let Lawn provide a soundtrack for your journey to healing with her deeply relatable and moving new single, "Grief Diet," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Lawn. We admired every second of your deeply personal and emotional new single, "Grief Diet." What life experiences inspired you to create this diary-esque single? Thank you so much! It was really hard for me to release this one. I felt like the worst parts of me had just been exposed to the world to see. It took me 15 minutes to write this and finally over two years to release it. I hope it resonates with a few because it was rewarding to share it with you all. How did you want your lyrics in 'Grief Diet" to impact listeners? What did you want them to think or feel? I was hoping they'd feel heard, understood at the least. Grief shows up in mysterious ways, and although most people mean well with their observations, it can come off as callous. I hear you. I understand you. You are not alone in feeling like a burden to others, but you are wrong about your value. This is what I want people to hear from Grief Diet. What was the most challenging part about creating such an emotional song like "Grief Diet?" How did you overcome these challenges and execute your vision? The most challenging was putting my words into action. I still don't have a music video or concept that makes the most sense for me to release. This song, in particular, was nearly all promoted and created by myself, and not all my songs have been as time-consuming. But I do believe the message has come across and am interested to hear other's perspectives on it (: What did you take away from writing and creating "Grief Diet"? What was the most rewarding part of this process? Most rewarding was writing it all out like a stream of thoughts in my head. It came out like it was always there. It was such a beautiful realization that, as humans, we feel more than we say aloud or that we are even conscious of. We're much more capable than people realize. And if you can get past the loss of someone....you can do anything. What's next for you? I'm working with a new studio called Altru Creative and am trying to release my next song rather soon. It's about Christmas... kind of. Stay tuned. xoxo Instagram

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Indie artist Mexx Heart released her emotional new single “Pretend.” Mexx Heart was raised surrounded by music and motivated by her father, who showed her multiple genres. Since she released her first single in 2020, she has been nominated for Josie Music Awards. You must listen to “Pretend” if you are into romantic ballads and folk-like instrumentals. Indulge your ears and feed your heart by hitting the play button on “Pretend.” Welcome to BuzzMusic Mexx Heart, and congratulations on your latest release, "Pretend." What experience took you to write “Pretend?” To put it simply: A combination of my worst heartbreaks. What was your most significant purpose when making “Pretend?” To get fresh pain out. I had so much sadness, confusion, anger, and depression from all my heartbreaks. to the point where I felt like I had to Pretend I was okay. My closest friends knew what had happened and were probably waiting for me to snap and lose it. Sometimes I felt myself getting there. But writing Pretend was cathartic. It's some of the best therapy advice I've ever gotten. To write a letter, you'll never send it to the person. I do that now and so often. What did the creative process of “Pretend” look like? I was listening to Folklore and Evermore on repeat. Then I'd find myself either singing the songs or humming them, sometimes mixing them up. The lyrics day came to me, and I wrote them down and recorded a voice note on my phone. Who are the people that support you the most with your music? Most definitely, Zelle, who's been my producer since I started these projects. She's made all the instrumentals and is a great recording engineer. If it weren't for them, "Pretend" wouldn't be what it is. Tabitha has been my best friend since 2018. She's the first to see lyrics before I finish writing a song. She has her own fashion label called Kephas, which she's been working on for a long time. She's also been my personal "celebrity" stylist since the beginning of 2022. Anytime I want to look extra good when I am in public, I consult her. Hanna and Jenna are my other two best friends from 2019. We met at a concert in 2019, and they've been hard-core supporters ever since. We've driven across the country together many times. They're the first to hear any kind of news I have, and they know me so well. But I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for everyone who's clicked this article, anyone who's pressed "play" on my music, or "share" to let everyone know they're listening to me. Everyone I've known throughout my career thus far who's watched my growth and rooting for me behind the screens. They're truly the best! What's next for you? To keep working! There's so much in store for this release, from me and from everyone involved. Instagram

  • Chelsea Silva Rises From The Underworld In “Hades Has A Daughter”

Chelsea Silva is, above all else, true to herself. Based in Sydney, Australia, the 22-year-old artist refuses to whitewash her art. Although she could pretend everything is fine and dandy, Silva balances experiences of perseverance and personal aspirations and reclaims her power with experiences of grief, mental illness, abuse, and misogyny to create music that ultimately showcases the beauty and ugliness of life. Simply put, Silva refuses to limit her artistic values in any way, shape, or form. Drawing inspiration from longtime muses Alec Benjamin and Dodie Clark, Silva’s creative output effortlessly spans several genres, with alternative, indie, and pop at the forefront. Furthermore, Silva utilizes her authentic and genuine style of lyricism with her distinct vocals to create a musical style that just as easily embodies light and grace as darkness and angst. “Hades has a daughter” is an extension of Silva’s artistic ethos. Over haunting chimes and a sonically groovy beat, Silva weaves a cautionary tale. Although our titular focus may have Hades as a father and the big bad wolf as a companion, lines like “She twists and bends and breaks the story” and “Hades has a daughter, she is only out for blood” indicate that Hade’s daughter has both the power to write her own story and the skill to be as dangerous and worthy as the company she keeps. Although authenticity is increasingly hard to come by, Chelsea Silva continues to release music that is both sonically pleasing and completely true to her vision as an artist. “Hades has a daughter” stands testament to that; with an unnamed titular heroine who nonetheless commands our respect by the end of the song, Silva shows us that even the nameless have power. Chelsea Silva’s “Hades has a daughter” is an authentic, groovy breath of fresh air. We can’t wait to see what’s next for her, and look out for new music by Silva at the end of the month. Welcome to BuzzMusic Chelsea. We have to say. We loved “Hades has a daughter”! It was cool to see how you mixed vibes of darkness with groovy beats and vocals. We have to ask, what was your inspiration behind “Hades has a daughter,” and did you see some parts of yourself in her? Thank you for having me! My inspiration came from an experience in high school when I was still trying to figure out my identity. This experience made my romantic rejection of another woman turn into a question of my identity. I am a proud bisexual woman, but this changed what could have been a safe space into a toxic and rough environment. What could have been a shorter journey turned into a five-year-long one. I hope my song inspires queer youth to stand up for themselves and let them know they are the only ones with a say in their identity. You mentioned Alec Benjamin was a big inspiration to you. As an artist, what aspect of their music did you appreciate the most, and how would you say they’ve influenced your own evolution as an artist? How they use a story-telling lyrical style and the way they influence the indie pop genre amazes me. Their vulnerability in telling their life and their experiences are breathtaking to me. The strength needed is hard to come by. Alec and Dodie’s music are my favorite forms of musical expression that I hope to fit into my career. One thing that stood out about your music was the desire to be completely true to yourself and your story. What made you “show both sides,” aka the good and the bad, and how important is this balance to your music? There are two sides to a coin. There are two sides to every story. It’s an interpretation of what the audience may be feeling. Are they the oppressor or the oppressed? Are they the bully or the victim? It's a way to tell both sides from only one point of view. I could only do this as it's my human experience of only knowing my truth, my side of the story. I hope this way of storytelling encourages people to be more open-minded to both sides of stories. This way, we can try to understand fully. You’re based in Sydney, Australia. What are your favorite things about the city and the music scene there? The music scene is amazing! So much life and light in our communities. We can truly come together to help each other. I feel so special to know many musicians and producers in my city. We inspire each other to be better and do better as musicians. I personally love the landscape and the unique indigenous story our country has! I recommend Australia as anyone's holiday destination! You have some new music coming out at the end of the month! What does it mean to be able to bring this music to your fans, and what’s next for Chelsea Silva? It means the absolute world to me. This is making my twelve-year-old self's dream come true. I am so thankful to have the support I have. I may have a few tricks to reveal after my single is released. You can find out on my social media! You can follow my musical journey on @chelseasilvamusic on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok! Instagram Facebook

  • Sunshine Scott Draws The Line In Relationships In “Not Your Sunshine”

A native of Nashville, Alternative pop and rock artist Sunshine Scott sings about self-love and self-respect in her band's single and music video “Not Your Sunshine.” Sunshine Scott is a pop and rock scene visionary, creating a genre she calls “fairy rock.” It is music with crucial elements of fantasy and storytelling. She grew up surrounded by the arts in a creative family. Now she creates a world with her sign. It is admirable that she writes, composes, and produces all her work, including videos, calling herself a DIY artist. “Not Your Sunshine” is a story turned into music. In this song, Sunshine Scott explores the extraordinary effects perseverance and self-respect have on your life. They seem almost supernatural. Thus, although this story has fantasy elements, Sunshine Scott wrote it around aspects that are universal to human beings. It is as if we could do magic out of self-love. Diving into “Not Your Sunshine” starts with distant notes of electric guitar, digital sounds in the back, and stomping drums, creating the dark oniric ambiance like an adventure about to start. Sunshine Scott’s voice shows up empowering, matching with exceptional vocal skills. The lyrics are catchy and able to transmit feelings. The instrumentals are diverse, and the effects are masterfully done to keep your attention, changing the intensity during the verses and building hype before the chorus. “Not Your Sunshine” is the work of an accomplished artist, including a music video that immerses you in Sunshine Scott’s story. Get to know the musical storytelling genre of fairy rock and immerse in the story of “Not Your Sunshine.” Welcome to BuzzMusic Sunshine Scott, and congratulations on your latest release, "Not Your Sunshine." What experience motivated you to write “Not Your Sunshine?” I wrote "Not Your Sunshine" just days after I suffered an extremely traumatic and terrifying event at the hands of someone I truly trusted and cared about. In fact, I almost canceled the production session because of the newness and pain of it all. However, I made the choice for myself to go in anyway because I felt like it had a purpose beyond even my understanding. The life-altering event I experienced led me to a personal epiphany. I have spent my entire life breaking my back and running my own rivers dry for people who simply do not care. At that moment, I decided I was worth more than the abuse and bullying I had been dealt in my life. I discovered my mission and made the choice to embrace it. I am Sunshine, and I will be light. Nobody will ever take that away from me again. I will bring joy to those who are pure of heart and intention, and everyone who wishes to stifle my light is not worthy of it. To those who choose love, I am your light; to those who choose hate, I am "Not Your Sunshine." How would you like “Not Ur Sunshine” to influence your listeners? I would like listeners to know that they are worthy of love and respect. That they deserve no less than the light, they give. If you give your all to people and they disrespect you or dull your light, then they are not worthy of your time or your energy. Let your light shine for yourself no matter what, and spread it to those worthy of it. What was the most challenging moment of making the video for “Not Ur Sunshine?” The most challenging part of making the music video for me was figuring out how to translate my concept. I was extremely influenced by Cult Classics, Anime, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and I wanted them to be cheesy and over-the-top but also have some generally palatable moments. "Not Your Sunshine" is the self-empowering anthem for well-intentioned misfits like myself, and I was very worried that that would get lost in translation. How do you think making “Not Ur Sunshine” sunshine and the video impact your future work? Making this song and video has taught me so much. It is not my first time by any means writing, directing, or starring in my own DIY music video and song. However, this video specifically taught me so much about directing a large group of actors, creating and teaching choreography, and commanding their performance in front of a camera. It was just another confirmation that this is my passion and what I will fight to do every day for the rest of my life. Working with Arht on the production was such a wonderful experience, and I learned so much about different production styles in the process. He is amazing and made "Not Your Sunshine" come to life in ways I had never even imagined possible! The song itself taught me that I am unapologetically myself and will never let the harsh words or actions of others take that away from me. I am Sunshine for myself, and I will be Sunshine for those who are deserving of light, not those who tear me down. What's next for you? I have huge plans for next year, starting in February with the release of my most in-depth self-directed/produced music video yet, and my very first entirely self-produced track, "Bang Bang (XO)." You might also see me on your screens for very exciting things on the national level. However, I am not allowed to say what exactly yet. All I can say is, be on the lookout! This is just the beginning. Instagram Twitter

  • Indiana Bradley Denounces A Wrecked Society in “Rats on Cocaine”

Los Angeles-based alternative artist, Indiana Bradley, releases “Rats on Cocaine,” the first single of his incoming EP. Indiana Bradley is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who has traveled around the world from Argentina to Indonesia for several years. He has been to dozens of countries, collecting knowledge and experiences that enrich Indiana’s music. Indiana has an authentic signature in his craft that offers a new experience to his listeners. “Rats On Cocaine” was produced and mixed by Hunter Burgan, who also plays the bass and guitars in the song. This rock song is exciting from the moment you hit the play button, and the music video, edited by Indiana Bradley, pairs with the social message of “Rats On Cocaine.” Listening to “Rats On Cocaine” starts with a distorted guitar accompanied by keys in the background. Then you hear Indiana's voice. His vocals are deep and enveloping, an energizing element in the track. “Rats On Cocaine” has “The Killers” with lyrics you would love to sing along with and instrumentals that keep the hype the whole song. The lyrics of “Rats On Cocaine” have poetic language. They don’t tell the story explicitly, but it is open for you to picture. In any case, you can see the strong message against illness in society’s codes and the absurdity of the status quo. The video reasserts the statement showing a dog that looks like a millionaire giving in to his poisonous passions. Give your head a shake and rock with Indiana Bradley listening to “Rats On Cocaine.” Welcome to BuzzMusic Indiana Bradly, and congratulations on your latest release, "Rats on Cocaine." What was your most significant purpose with “Rats On Cocaine?” I wrote "Rats on Cocaine" as a commentary on the cocaine-fueled, social media-worshiping underbelly of Los Angeles that leads us like a freight train toward unfulfillment, rage, and jealousy. How did making “Rats On Cocaine” reflect your traveling experiences? "Rats on Cocaine" doesn't have a lot of inspiration from traveling. It's much darker than that. It's the ramblings of a paranoid mad person who can't stop impulsive destructive behavior even though spirits and inherited wisdom are pleading with him or her to leave at once before it's too late. How would you like “Rats On Cocaine” to impact your career?” I'd simply like "Rats on Cocaine" to be heard by as many people as possible, and hopefully, they will be entertained and/or moved by the message, the music, and the video. What would you like your listeners to picture when listening to “Rats On Cocaine?” I'd like listeners to picture the bedlam and mania we observe in Los Angeles and often actively participate in and question the inertia it brings to our lives. What's next for you? My next single from this EP, "Pale City," releases on December 10th. It's called "Animals" and is also produced and mixed by Hunter Burgan, who plays guitars and bass on the whole record. Instagram Facebook

Find the new single on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome back to BuzzMusic, Haelphon. We're impressed with your new single, "I Told My Friends About You," and impressed with the overall groove and dreamy atmosphere." What inspired you to create a song about longing to be with this special someone? It’s good to be back. Thank you for taking the time to listen! ITMFAY is largely an ode to anxious attachment and relationships in today’s world rather than a particular person. The song draws greatly from my dating experiences in America’s biggest city. Though it’s not an easy feat at times, you can learn a lot about yourself and others if you keep an open mind. Were there any emotional or personal obstacles you faced when writing your lyrics for "I Told My Friends About You"? Or was it easy for you to be so open and vulnerable? At first, I was worried about highlighting my own shortcomings in dating and relationships. On multiple occasions, I thought to myself, “maybe I’m going a little too far in on this”, but the more I spoke to friends of mine, the more I understood that there are a ton of people out there who feel the same way that I do when it comes to finding and keeping love. How would you describe the sound of "I Told My Friends About You" in terms of genres and subgenres? Did you have any artistic or stylistic influences in mind when creating it? Somehow, despite how many years I’ve been doing this, I always gravitate to folktronica. While there aren’t any particular influences on this song, when we’re talking about this track style, we can’t do without a shoutout to Avicii, who pioneered the sound first. The song itself is all the result of one killer sample–within ten minutes of messing with it, I had written down many ideas, most of which are what you hear in the final version. I’m still amazed at how easily everything fell into place because it usually takes me weeks, if not months, of tinkering to finish things. One thing I’d like to call out, in particular, is how the mood moves throughout the song. The verses begin with optimism and slowly break down through the following choruses. Then they reset, starting from the beginning and compounding the hot-and-cold cycles many of us go through in these situations. Should we expect to hear "I Told My Friends About You" on your upcoming debut studio album, Yuppie? Could you tell us a little more about the project itself? While ITMFAY is not on the album, it does tee up Yuppie really well. The album is largely an anthology of my experiences while I was living in New York City. It’s crazy how much that place teaches you about yourself, and I am grateful to have gotten such a fun LP out of it. Yuppie explores my state of mind (nice) and my experiences while I was in the city, similarly to how ITMFAY does. The album is quite experimental, and it was a blast to write. I think my listeners will find it a great successor to my 2019 home-recorded LP, Haelphonics. What's next for you? Although this is the first time I’ve put out music in over a year, my team and I have been working a lot behind the scenes to put together a grand release of the upcoming album. So many people have been waiting patiently, and we wanted to really take the time to develop the music and the brand around it to say thank you. In the past, I put things out without a strong plan—this time, we’re coming with an arsenal of exciting content, fresh merch, and new tunes. Instagram Twitter

  • Naga Brujo Is Ready To Rumble In A New EP 'Canceled'

Slamming the speakers from Austin, Texas, is the 4-piece femme and queer-charged punk/heavy rock band Naga Brujo, with their anticipated 4-track EP entitled Canceled. Fueled by unfiltered grit and raw emotion, Naga Brujo is your newest arrival to the punk rock music scene and one that won't go unnoticed. The four artists made waves with their debut album in 2020, and are ready to keep the ball rolling with more stellar releases like the recent EP, Canceled. The new EP starts with the introductory track, "Sick Sad World," which pummels our speakers with heavy and angsty rock and roll. The lead vocalists bring this dynamic and ear-ringing back and forth that keeps us on our toes, not knowing where Naga Brujo will take us next. All in all, it's one hell of a way to open a project; this song makes it clear that Naga Brujo means business. Onto another gripping rock anthem in track number two, "Black Magick," Naga Brujo pumps out their scorching hot rock instrumentals. At the same time, the lead vocalist commands our attention with her wickedly intriguing performance and dark, conceptual lyrics. This song is thrilling, to say the least, and Naga Brujo has no problem grabbing the listener's undivided attention with their fierce instrumentals and engaging performance stylings. The song's many transitions are bound to keep you hooked, buckled, and ready for the ride. Onto the EP's second half with track number three, "Slug," the quick and biting snare drum pounces through the speakers while Naga Brujo ramps up the energy to unleash their fiery instrumentals. While the lead vocalists express how they don't give a damn about being a squirmy, slimy slug, they expand on being something that someone else doesn't want, and quite frankly, they don't give a shit. We love the badass feel of this track; it's contagious. Landing on the EP's fourth and outro track, "Fever Dreamer," Naga Brujo waited for the last track to absolutely smoke our speakers. Their riveting introduction leads into the blazing verse, where we're greeted with soothing transitions to emphasize the dynamic ways of a fever dream. Again, Naga Brujo leaves us in a sweat once they catapult us into the scorching fires of their punk rock instrumentals, letting us lose ourselves in their fierce sounds that keep the listener hooked from top to bottom. When you're craving some hot rock and roll with a dash of angsty punk, look no further than Naga Brujo's newest 4-track EP, Canceled, now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Naga Brujo. You've left us shaking with your heavy-hitting 4-track EP, Canceled. What inspired your group to create a unique and conceptual project like this? We have always strived to create songs we truly love playing while pushing the boundaries and rigidity of the mono-genre music of the mainstream. Could you introduce us to your band members and your creative process when making Canceled? What was that process like? We have Jake Mumps on lead guitar/vox, Asia Reign Gonzalez on lead vox, Jacob Lyons on bass, and Dylan Barnett on drums. Ryan Woessner, our original drummer, played on all of the “Canceled” EP recordings. Our creative process has always been pretty fluid. With the exception of very few prewritten songs, most of our songs start as an idea, a riff, or even something improvised during practice. Over time the ideas and riffs become harnessed, molded, rewritten, sometimes scrapped/picked back up again later, and eventually, the select good ones become songs. This process boosts creativity and originality and enhances a sense of inclusivity and community within the band, which is essential to all of us. What was your band's favorite part about creating Canceled? What moments or experiences did you enjoy most? Although recording in the studio can be stressful and tedious, it was the most gratifying experience to watch all of our combined hours of writing and practicing come to fruition when we heard the tracks back for the first time. It might sound cliché, but there’s no other experience I can compare it to. What impact do you hope to make on listeners with the Canceled EP? What did you want your audience to learn or take away from the project? We wanted each song to possess its own unique style musically and thematically but remain loosely related to one another via current issues we can and are,e unfortunately, sometimes forced to relate to. For instance, “Sick Sad World” surmises the overwhelming burnout we all experience surviving in modern-day capitalist society, “Slug” confronts the grotesque nature of the male gaze and rape culture all too common today, “Black Magick” is an offering of respect to the natural practices and beliefs of our ancestors and past civilizations while simultaneously rejecting modern indoctrinations that feed said capitalist society, and “Fever Dreamer” takes you through a literal fever dream, which I am sure all of us experienced one way or another throughout the pandemic. What's next for you? After the “Canceled” releases on January 6th, 2023, we are returning to the studio with the next round of songs. We also have plans to film and release a music video in early spring for a single off of “Canceled.” Instagram Facebook
