  • EM$o Is "The $urvivor"

In "The $urvivor," EM$o's moving indie hip-hop song, he speaks for the trap youth. This song has a lot of potentials and is loaded with emotional baggage from the author's past, as well as a strong message. Fans of Lil Baby, Lil Skies, and AA Anuel should definitely add EM$o to their playlists because of his potential as a triple threat. His rap technique and lyrical flow immediately transport you to the song's passionate yet surreal sounds. Differences, EM$o's debut album, was published in July 2022 after he managed to flee one of Switzerland's most hazardous regions. The emotional indie trap single "The $urvivor" from this album recalls the mindset he had to get beyond to escape the trap lifestyle others are ready to romanticize. The beats were produced by Gibbo and mixed by Slade Templeton after being written and recorded by EM$o. With his vulnerable lyrical style and smooth rhythmic instrumentals, EM$o has carved out a special niche in the hip-hop market. Listening to the beat makes you feel at ease. The vocals, which are highly autotuned, have a strong emotional and personal impact. In "The $urvivor," EM$o discusses his hardships, mental health issues, fears, and life experiences that have made him a survivor. "The $urvivor" is an absolutely thumping song with tons of impact. This song has an exotic palette, deeply felt lyrics, and a gentle beat delivered by powerful production. Welcome to BuzzMusic EM$o, and congratulations on your latest release, "The $urvivor." What are the three most difficult moments you’ve been through? Did those inspire The $urvivor? Hey Buzz Music LA, thanks for having me. All of my hardships inspired “The $urvivor." Leaving the streetlife unharmed was for sure one of my hardest overcomings. People I used to hang with were seeing me as an “Easy-Target” after I told all of them I won’t put my feet ever back into it; of course, there were nerve-wracking moments where I had to be prepared for all situations no matter what...Gangsters in BnC (my hometown) are not a breed you should test; they shoot and stab first and then ask questions. Protecting my earnings from the street was another story; I still believe to this day, that I was being lurked on, there was a lot of money involved in my actions, and of course, there were hungry wolves in the woods looking for a time to strike, but I tried to always be a step ahead. And, of course, my family suffered a lot with me, and there is sure permanent damage. They forgive, but they don’t forget. How do you compare your life to that of others around you? Well, my circle is very small, and all of them are hustlers like I am; we all play in the same league. We just keep running for success. One day success won’t be able to outrun us. What is the thing you’re most grateful for which you have felt inspired you to create "The $urvivor?" I'm grateful for making it out of the streets without becoming a statistic. Not many make it out of the streets of BnC; I'm grateful for my survivor mentality. Is there anything you couldn’t say in the song that you want others to know? There were real stories I wanted to talk about, but I know that the system has been watching me since I was blacklisted. What's next for you? I’m currently working on new music, and I’m going to open a clothing online store soon. Music inspires me to think bigger and not have fears of my artistic view. The design of clothes also helped me to think differently about the music itself. I’m able to “see” music now and not only hear it. Instagram

  • Get On NotoriousTuh’s, “Soul Train”

Taking the best of his roots from the Mid West and the west coast, NotoriousTuh takes us on his Hip-hop “Soul Train” with a provoking flow and a track out of this world. NotoriousTuh has always lived between two worlds, one is in St. Luis on the Mid West, and the other is in Los Angeles on the West Coast. This has taken him to have his heart in two different places, but this has motivated him to create a world of music of his own where he has the best of both cultures. “Soul train” is a reminder of the great musical tv show of our childhood, but it is especially a new point in the path of NotoriousTuh’s music where an awesome track meets his vocals skills in a work that makes you bang your head in every beat. The track is a trip with a melody that starts high and then lowers and fades, like taking your soul to a quiet place far away. Then comes the bass that injects energy into the track, followed by the hi-hats that complete the circle of an outstanding sound. In a few seconds, NotoriusTuh’s voice enters, pumping lyrics with such a flow that you feel like you are in an actual train of Hip-hop. Every second of “Soul train” is charged with energy that can uplift your spirit any time you listen to it. You can tell there is something new about NotoriousTuh's work, and you don’t want to miss it. Get on the “Soul train” and ride down the tracks of the next-gen sound of hip-hop. Welcome to BuzzMusic NotoriousTuh, and congratulations on your latest release, "Soul Train." What was your greatest motivation when making “Soul train?” LA, in general. The environment of the inner city we grow up in oftentimes gets labeled as party music, not as celebration music. Still, when it comes to the LAND, spectators love to undervalue our art, forgetting the origins of Hip Hop. Life is real out here. A rollie in the wrong hood could be the end of life, unfortunately, so we make sure to find ways to celebrate life, and that’s what this was, a celebration of life and how far the guys and I came. How did you come up with the idea of “Soul train?” It was created during a time I was doing a lot of traveling. I did a lot of courting by labels, which had me in different cities for the majority of the Summer of 2021. Causing me to be a little homesick. Being in different cities, the radio stations are exact opposites. Although the music they played is lit, I ain’t hear “Breezy and Slime - Go Crazy,” and that’s my shit. So I had to make a slapper when I touched down in SC. Birthing Soul Train. What do you do to train your notorious vocal abilities? Tea, weed, and rest, Lol. My voice is particularly unique because of its timbre, so being cautious of straining it, not yelling, and a lot of tea. I also have a vocal coach I’m preparing to begin working with. Advancing my vocal range, breathing, and depth is something I feel really strongly about improving. How do you expect your music to influence the Hip-hop scene? I’m hoping people are influenced to make music THEY enjoy. It’s easy to get consumed in making music that MIGHT go viral on Tik Tok or Instagram, but is it enjoyable? Can you listen to it during your commute, can you listen at the gym, or even just when you're having a shitty day. Can you connect to it on a deeper level, both as a listener and artist? I want my music to influence owning who you are and relishing in the benefits and richness that come with that. Flaws and all. What's next for you? I just released my debut EP, “BA$TVRD." An amazing piece of work, which is the first installment of a dual set. BA$TVRD has something on it for everyone, which focuses on displaying my diversity and vocal ability, particularly in the RNB spectrum of Hip-Hop. It was important for me to show the complexities of who BigTuh is as an artist and my ability to genre bend. Instagram

  • Sink Into Scorching Rock With Chase The Bear’s Single, “Underwater”

Coming in hot from Vancouver, British Columbia, is the six-piece rock band Chase The Bear with their newest high-energy and infectious anthem entitled "Underwater." Originally hailing from the wild wilderness of Fort St. John, BC, Chase The Bear is vocalist Troy Gilmore, guitarists Leo Gilmore and Jordan Philips, drummer Connor Brooks, keyboardist Kevin Parker, and bassist Braedan Royer. Having opened for The Trews at the iconic Commodore Ballroom and performing over a hundred shows, Chase The Bear is only getting started. Best known for mixing catchy hooks, roaring electric guitars, and hard-hitting rhythms, Chase The Bear brings all of that and more in their latest single, "Underwater." The new track is off the band's forthcoming album, Honey, and packs a heavy punch with infectious melodies and powerful electric guitar lines. Produced by Danny Craig, the co-founder of innovative new Vancouver-based record label Rock Is Dead Records, "Underwater" kicks off with a powerful and playful chant that sets sail into a killer rock instrumental. This upbeat blazer of a single pack all the power, groove, and rhythm we could ask for in a modern rock tune, and it's evident that Chase The Bear has no problem delivering what listeners are craving. The song's hook is infectious; the roaring melodies keep us locked in and chanting along with Chase The Bear as they continue blazing through the song with poise and composure. There's so much energy in this big and bold single, and if their upcoming album Honey is anything like this rager, then we're definitely in for a treat. We invite you to experience the thrills and chills within Chase The Bear's killer new track, "Underwater," from their upcoming album, Honey. Find the new single on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Chase The Bear. We love the energy and anthemic vibe of your new single, "Underwater." What inspired your band to create this stellar rock anthem? Leo: It's kind of hard to pin down a single source of inspiration for this song. The primary songwriters of this tune were writing about different things, but to our surprise, the two subjects meshed well with each other. Our singer Troy was writing lyrics about a serial killer while our bassist Brady was writing about climate change. I guess you could say the inspiration came from watching global climate change murder our planet and the sea life that resides Underwater. What was your band's creative process like when in the studio creating and recording "Underwater?” What did that process look like between the six of you? Brady: All of our best songs seem to come together quickly. It's a bit of a blur, but we wrote the song in two sessions. Connor nailed the vibe of the song when he added Jungle drums to the verse, giving it that driving rhythm. Danny took it over the top behind the board, asking for louder, dirtier guitars and heavier drum fills. Troy screamed like a banshee, as always. I Would you say that "Underwater" is a solid representation of your band's sound and style? How can listeners get to know your band better through this single? Leo: Absolutely, this song definitely signifies the high-energy rock n roll we love to play! With soaring vocals, gritty guitars, and bombastic drum fills, this song is a strong example of the kind of music you can expect from Chase the Bear. It is a little more political than our usual output. Fans and listeners alike will all be able to get to know us better through this song because it's about a topic that is close to our hearts. The state of the world is changing rapidly, and sometimes we can’t help but feel like we are helpless and just waiting for someone to do something to save us. How does "Underwater" prepare listeners for what's to come on your upcoming album, Honey? Could you drop any hints about the new album? Leo: Being one of the heaviest songs on the track list, it’s a great opening statement to say here we are, we’re loud as hell; it is the perfect introduction to the kind of rock n roll you can expect from Chase the Bear. I don’t want to give too much away about the album (our record execs might not like that), BUT the upcoming album has a very wide variety of genres, everything from rock n roll to reggae. We even have a couple of tunes you could slow dance to. The album is set to release sometime in the spring of 2023 and consists of 12 tracks. We are also planning on releasing the album on a limited run of vinyl … that might be a little too much info, so ill stop there. What's next for you? Leo: Next couple of things we are looking at after the single drops are the release of the music video, which we are all VERY excited for, and the release of a few more singles, leading into the big release of our album Honey in 2023. We are also on the hunt to play as many shows as humanly possible, doing some US tours, maybe some cross-Canada tours if the weather permits, all while writing our next album. We are definitely excited to get back in the studio and start working on our next batch. Instagram Facebook

Winachi is absolutely mesmerizing. Every exciting pulse and seductive riff the band conjures up will make you want to shake and groove to their music, and "Ms. Parker," in particular, will do just that. Winachi has a cool and wild feel that combines swaggering Mancunian grit with silky Californian G Funk soul. Winachi is a diverse enigma. They started off as China White, then became The Winachi Tribe, and finally became just WINACHI. Liam Croker (Vocals & Lyrics) and Antony Egerton (Keys & Programming), the two original Winachi pioneers, are the energetic leaders of this five-man show. Mike Bee (guitar), Richard Ritchie (bass), and famed percussionist Inder Goldfinger of Ian Brown eventually joined them to create this marvel of a band. Winachi creates its own unique blend of funk-induced bombs. To deliver you this banger, they joined up with Zeus Rebel Waters this time. Get to know "Ms. Parker" today, available on all streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic WINACHI and Zeus Rebel Waters. Can you begin by telling our readers a bit more about your collaborative musical relationship? A. Zeus - We’re homies!! I love their energy, man. They are great guys with morals and ethics. I spoke with Liam's mom on the phone and look forward to meeting her. A. Liam Croker (WINACHI) - We have a very positive relationship; we're both extremely hard-working musicians and songwriters who share a common goal...which is to succeed, so we're both on the same page; Zeus is really easy to work with, we leave our ego's at the door and just get on with the music...we got a good relationship. What inspired you to collaborate with Zeus Rebel Waters // WINACHI for the song "Ms. Parker?" A. Zeus - we both were digging each other musically, artistically, etc. 1 song turned into an entire project, lol. A. Liam Croker (WINACHI) - We see a lot of artists when we're on tour, and we share the stage with a lot of artists when we're out on the road. Still, Zeus had something completely different, original, and yet totally familiar going on all at the same time. For me, it was like seeing a modern-day George Clinton...he had that aura and energy about him. Ultimately we're coming from the same worlds musically, that funk, rock, hip hop vibe...we're just both approaching it differently, so it made total sense for us to work together. Can you describe the creative process behind your eclectic music? A. Zeus - My music usually comes from my experiences. I write records about Everyday stuff. A. Liam Croker (WINACHI) - That's a really hard question to answer; personally, I don't have a process. A song can come from anything, a one-line lyric, a bass line, a groove...that's the beauty; there is no process...and I'd hate there to be a process...it keeps it interesting and exciting. What is the biggest source of inspiration when creating? A. Zeus - My inspiration comes from the world, love, and people. A. Liam Croker (WINACHI) - Life aka Living...it's all there...you just gotta look for it and let it turn you on. What do you hope people take away from 'Ms. Parker'? A. Zeus - "Ms. Parker" is a fun record; we just want you to have tons of f**king fun, lol. A. Liam Croker (WINACHI) - I want people to go and make some babies to it, go and f*ck!!! It's a sexy tune...most of all, have fun. Also, I want people to get excited about what Zeus & Winachi are gonna come up with next; this is a teaser. What's next for you? A. Zeus - World domination!! Zeus and Winachi will become a force to be reckoned with in the music industry very soon!! A. Liam Croker (WINACHI) - Writing, recording, touring...the big three. We got a big headline show and + a single launch at 'The Blues Kitchen' in Manchester (U.K) on 27th October. Plus, we're gonna be looking at putting some Shows together with Zeus and dropping a collaborative E.P in the new year. We'll keep taking this around the world...that's what we do. • A Deep Dive Into Foster Hilding’s Cinematic Sophomore Album

From Phoenix, Arizona, singer-songwriter and self-taught musician Foster Hilding bestows his highly anticipated 12-track sophomore album entitled The Summer That Dried The Well. Born in 2002, Hilding first dove into music at 12 after picking up a guitar, leading him to write music and perform at small venues with other musicians. After releasing his debut album, Kinds, in 2020, Foster Hilding spent the next two years attempting to create a record he was confident in. After scrapping all sorts of songs and ideas, Foster Hilding is finally blessing listeners with his 14-track sophomore album, The Summer That Dried The Well. The album opens with the introductory track, "The Quickest Form of Escape is Always Through," in which we can already tell this record will bless us with a cinematic listening experience. While the song opens with dreary grunge electric guitars picking their way at our hearts, Foster Hilding quickly ramps up the energy and power to represent the peaks and valleys of his emotions and the tumultuous journey to clarity. It's an excellent song and an even better album opener. "Bleeding" into track number two, Foster Hilding sparks fire with his piercing rock instrumentals that set the energetic and aggressive tone. Hilding's lyrics are nothing short of gripping; he explains a situation where he never wants to see someone again, giving up on them through and through. It's an anthemic track that flames through the speakers with a feisty alternative rock attitude. On the album's third track, "My Body is the Base of a Mountain," Foster Hilding turns things down a notch with his melancholy electric guitar melodies and tender vocals. He uses this song to express the highs and lows of a relationship and the cycle he's caught himself in. It's an incredibly dynamic listening experience and a cathartic one that feels like a breath of rejuvenating fresh air. Maintaining that deep and heavy vibe is the fourth track, "As it Slips Through Your Fingers," kicking off with a warm bass line that leads into a rippling rock blast-off. The many transitions in this song are impressive, from the blistering rock instrumentals to the intricate electric guitar twinkling through the speakers. The song's cinematic and roaring outro leaves us basking in the palpable passion Foster Hilding has to offer. Another introspective and ethereal intro greets the ears on track number five, "Every Yesterday is a Rabbit Hole," which floats through the speakers with crunchy electric guitar melodies that gradually lead into a cathartic rock breakdown. Foster Hilding's faint and distant vocals serenade us with softness while he dives into the rabbit hole that is yesterday. It's a reflective and dynamic track that truly showcases Foster Hilding's emotional range. Traveling into what is perhaps the most personal song on the album is track number six, "The Ditch Between The Road," where Foster Hilding only sings a few lines but impactful ones. The melancholy electric guitar, alongside his airy vocals, expresses the deepest sorrows he experiences while he slowly builds the energy and anticipation to unleash it all. The gradual build-up to the rage-packed outro is top-tier. Landing on the seventh track, "Your Cologne Stains the Fridge Like Mold," Foster Hilding moves into a more poetic and spoken-word approach. His blazing instrumentals follow while pummeling our speakers with all sorts of rage and angst that leaves us locked into the cathartic experience. The transitions into the reflective outro end the song on a profoundly vulnerable note that peaks deeper into Foster Hilding's thoughts. Reaching the album's second half with track number eight, "American English," Foster Hilding and his accompanying instrumentals waste no time and pounce through our speakers from the jump. This mainly-instrumental song packs tons of highs and lows, ripping the speakers in half with metal-influenced guitars that lead into a faint vocal appearance from Foster Hilding. The piercing outro takes us back into the thrilling rock instrumentals Foster Hilding has clearly mastered. In the album's ninth track, "Insolent Little Shit," Foster Hilding takes on a more straightforward approach with nothing but his acoustic guitar and microphone. While expressing the toll this angry and hateful person had on him, Hilding doesn't beat around the bushes and makes his hatred known. It's an honest and blunt song that dives even deeper into Foster Hilding's personal life. Ramping up the grim grunge energy is track number ten, Echoes of a New Day," dancing through the speakers with a haunting yet dreamy Nirvana-esque sound. It doesn't take long for Foster Hilding to pump his fiery rock instrumentals through our speakers to increase the emotion and power. The dynamic back and forth pushes us to the song's end while Foster Hilding's distant vocals play in the background like the "Echoes of a New Day." On the eleventh track, "Exodus," Foster Hilding leaves it to his instrumentals to tell the story. The gloomy acoustic guitar melts through our speakers while distant electric guitar plucking begins to dance in the background. It's a sweet and lush instrumental that sees no sights of rock anywhere, just a pure array of emotional guitars that serenade the soul. Leaping into what might be the most vulnerable song on the album, "I Wish That I Could Tell You I Love You," Foster Hilding releases those long-held thoughts he has about someone special. The warm acoustic guitar gradually leads into the tender alternative hook while Foster Hilding paints various passionate scenes with his sincere lyrics. It's quite a refreshing song that helps us hear a different, softer side of his artistry. The album's thirteenth track, "Emptiness," doesn't hold back. It's a ten-minute deep-dive into Foster Hilding's thoughts that circle back to various other tracks on the album. Again, Hilding does an excellent job of keeping the listeners engaged with his dynamic and wide-ranging instrumentals, all while leaving us locked into his conceptual lyrics. He's made it clear in many songs that he will never forgive this particular person. Ouch. Landing on the fourteenth and final track, "Pa," Foster Hilding closes the album with his smooth acoustic guitar and whispery, airy vocals. While expressing the passing through the gates and having infinite wisdom and regrets, he punctures hearts everywhere with an incredibly emotional and surreal lyricism that makes you think twice. It's an excellent way to close such a dynamic and thoughtful album. Experience the highs, lows, peaks, and valleys that Foster Hilding shares with us on his 14-track sophomore album, The Summer That Dried The Well, now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Foster Hilding. What inspired you to create such a dynamic and personal album like The Summer That Dried The Well? What was the main concept behind this project? In terms of inspiration, this album is built on a lot of personal experiences I had between 2020 and late 2021. My parents had gotten divorced, my grandfather had passed away, and during the summer of 2021, I felt as if I was growing further and further away from myself and my family every day, my father especially. I let go of many people in my life in some form or another, and many of my relationships entered into new stages. The complexities and emotions of becoming an adult and leaving home for the first time are very strong themes throughout the album as well. I think with a lot of this in mind, just the context of my life in general at the time of writing was the concept for this project if any. Why did you scrap the first album you created and choose to release this, The Summer That Dried The Well? What made you feel more confident in this album? I scrapped the first version of a sophomore album because it was recorded at a pretty dark and chaotic point in my life, all within the first few months of my life, in the first months of 2020 and COVID. All of the demos I made for that draft were made in Bitwig, the same DAW I had used for Kinds, I Won’t Give Up On Myself Anymore, and basically anything before The Summer. What ended up happening is I made this entire album that I really liked, but it was all over the place. Not saying that any of my other projects, including TSTDTW, aren’t, but it was all off and didn’t meet my vision. I recorded a demo for The Ditch Between The Roads (this name changed a few times, swapping the second ‘the’ for a ‘two’ and back and forth) at some point in late 2020, and I fell in love with sort of the sound I had struck. From the moment I started working on any idea of a second album, I knew that I wanted it to be dark, the darkest thing I could think of or try to create with my limited production knowledge and skill, and this was exactly what I needed. By the time I had released my compilation album, Leaving Behind, which includes the entire sophomore album draft in some form or another, it was set in stone that it would be left behind. After I had switched to Logic Pro, the real work on TSTDTW began, and I knew I had something interesting, dark, and just cool. Finally, something I believed in and actually liked and would listen to. I’d still love to go back and remake that first draft into its own real album and complete whatever vision I had for it, but that’s for another time. What artists, genres, or sounds might have influenced you when creating The Summer That Dried The Well? Did any external sources have an impact on this album? There were an insane amount of influences for this album that range from all over the place. Groups like Have a Nice Life, Deftones, and The Smashing Pumpkins greatly influenced tracks like The Quickest Form of Escape is Always Through, Echoes of a New Day, etc. For some of the slower tracks, such as Your Cologne Stains the Fridge Like A Mold, I Wish That I Could Tell You That I Love You, and The Dutch Between the Roads, I took huge inspiration from Duster and Slint. Planning for Burial and Grouper were heavily in my listening rotation at this time, too, as you can see in songs like My Body is the Base of a Mountain, Exodus, and emptiness to some extent. American English was a track I recorded very early on during a Daughters phase. Production and tone-wise, I was very much inspired by Nothing, a band that has quickly become one of my favorites of all time. This album is just really a personalized playlist of my favorite bands and artists in one huge conglomerate. Is there a song that means the most to you on The Summer That Dried The Well? Why does that song stand out to you? This is an extremely difficult question. My Body is the Base of a Mountain is one of my favorite things I’ve made, and it perfectly encapsulates my feelings on prenatal and the weight of existence, so it will always hold a very dear place in my heart. If I had to choose one, though, Emptiness means the most to me. It’s a culmination of all the hard work I have put into this album, with a heavy, bone-crushing shoegaze ending that I will never stop loving. What makes this song special to me is that the original demo was less than half the length, ending right after the doom-metal section. What I added was an homage to all the themes in the album, the chanting of ‘I don’t forgive you over the name of the album itself, and the faint quotes from Echoes of a New Day. I wanted it to be like a theatre musical finale that brings in all the precious motifs and merges them into a powerful singular end. What do you want your audience to take away from such a dynamic album like The Summer That Dried The Well? I really don’t know. This is such a difficult question for me because I know as an artist, there’s somewhat of a responsibility to have a positive impact on society and give some sort of perspective on something, just anything at all. But really, that’s just not what this album’s about. All this is a personal journey that I have made. Instagram

The energy and good vibes within your new single, "Know Ya," are contagious. What inspired you to create this groovy and passionate piece? I think the major inspiration behind the creation of Know Ya was to intentionally mark the beginning of a new era, a fresh start, and a different vibe or energy from what I’ve been known to deliver just to show and remind people that this is not a one-way street that I’m rolling through. I’m a very emotional person through and through, so passion is always a given when it comes to KvY music. What did you have in mind for the overall sound, genre, and vibe of "Know Ya?" How did you want the production to sound and feel? I personally wanted Know Ya to sound like nothing that’s ever been heard before, as I do for all my songs. I wanted it to be a fusion of genres from the production to the cadence of my delivery, and I think my team and I did an amazing job at achieving just that. Would you say any artists or projects influenced the sound and style of "Know Ya?" What helped you bring this song to life? As far as influences go, I wouldn’t say there were any major external influences. Most of it was very authentic and original, a very internal process for me. I was just telling a story of my own personal experience with women in today’s social/dating scene so bringing the song to life just took me channeling my emotions from those experiences and laying them down. What did you want to make listeners think and feel when hearing "Know Ya?" What sort of effect did you want the song to have on listeners? I wanted to create the feeling of a fun, bright atmosphere while still having some emotional depth, and of course, I wanted it to be relatable to both men and women above all else. I wanted listeners to hear it and go, “Yeaa he gets it,” lol. What's next for you? So much more. A debut project in the works, loads more singles, features, collaborations with tons of different producers, and even a joint project is loading, so don’t sleep cuz we are just getting started. We have the perfect addition to your getaway playlist. Find TREVAN's 6-track EP, Summer Vacation, on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, TREVAN. We're ready to hit the road after hearing your new EP, Summer Vacation. What inspired you to write an entire project about getting away and living it up? Thank you so much for having me! Well, this EP actually consists of songs that I recorded for my album that I'm hoping to release before the end of the year; but I knew I didn’t want to wait that long before putting something out! I thought it would be cool to put out some singles or an EP beforehand, and Summer Vacation seemed like the perfect theme! So, I cherry-picked six songs from my album that all felt like they had a cohesive Summer vibe to them and put that out as the Summer Vacation EP! The main inspiration was I wanted to release a project that felt reminiscent of when I was a kid, and my mom would make these amazing mixtapes that we’d listen to during the summer; everything from No Doubt, to John Mayer, to Oasis, to Bush, Incubus, and tons of others. I wanted to release a collection of songs that sort of captured the feelings I had at that moment in time when I must have been no older than 10 or 11. Also, a lot of the gigs I've been doing over the years have been at restaurants, resorts, and family-friendly environments; I wanted to put out a project that spoke to that audience and would be the perfect soundtrack for the places I had been performing. How long did it take to create the EP Summer Vacation? When did you start executing ideas and putting the pieces together? Crazy enough, many of the ideas for the songs that ended up on the EP began as far back as seven years ago! The chorus for the title track, Summer Vacation, was written seven years ago when I was waiting for my mom to finish working at her after-school program! I had just gotten a new acoustic guitar, and while I was waiting for her, I started playing these chords and freestyling what would become the chorus melody and lyrics; it's one of those "the idea practically wrote itself"! I originally imagined it as a song I would pitch for a female artist and never did anything with it. But when I started thinking more seriously about songs I could put together for an album last summer, I went back through all the ideas I'd had but never finished, and Summer Vacation was one I always loved! How does the EP, Summer Vacation, represent you and the music you create? Would you say that uplifting and feel-good songs like this are a staple for you? I would definitely say that uplifting and feel-good songs have been a major staple of mine since I started writing songs. Almost everyone who knows me as a person knows me as an encourager, supporter, and overall optimist, always seeking to uplift others and bring joy. You can even go back to my 'Sensuali-T' album and listen to a song like 'Getchu Right,' or my 'Spirituali-T' album and listen to songs like 'All Good' or 'Have a Good Time' to hear them through a line of feel-good. The cool thing with my Summer Vacation EP is that it's the first project I've gotten to do that has a much more organic sound and feel to it; with me getting to play actual live drums on it and Mikal's brilliant production knowledge with outboard gear and using other things I didn't have the chance to use on my other self-produced albums. The greatest way that Summer Vacation represents me and my music is that it captures my innately nostalgic and somewhat wholesome nature. I've never really been a major 'partier,' I don't drink, and I'm the kind of person who enjoys little things like cartoons, Disney movies, chick flicks, and other things that most might think of as "innocent" or "wholesome." I've always wanted to represent something that was of all ages and could be great for kids and families. I think Summer Vacation represents that better than any other project I've done thus far. Do you have a favorite song from the EP, Summer Vacation? Which song means the most to you and why? That's really a tough one. Honestly, my personal two favorite songs from the EP would have to be 'Hey There Missy' and 'Sunkissed.' Hey There Missy because it has such a feel-good road trip vibe to it and totally reminds me of the days of driving to the beach with my mom as a kid, listening to those amazing mixtapes she would make. Sunkissed is my other favorite because it just has such a calming, beautiful, sensual feeling to it. I loved it when I wrote it but seeing it come to life the way it did with Mikal's direction and Dalton's incredible lead guitar melodies made it super special to me. However, the song that might mean the most to me is the title track, 'Summer Vacation.' The reason Summer Vacation means the most to me is that everything about that song lyrically feels so real and true to me, from the time I was a kid to now. Lyrics like, "Always stuck in a yes, no, maybe," and "I'm uninspired, but I'm not lazy" are such deep personal truths of mine and speak to challenges I've had to face time and time again in my life. And the chorus lyrics beautifully represent my deepest inner wish: to get to a point in life where every day could be carefree and celebratory; where "every day could be like Summer Vacation, and every day could be our own celebration." What's next for you? My main goal moving forward is to finalize and release my full album, do more full band shows, open for other bigger artists, continue working as a songwriter, and even try doing more features as a vocalist for DJs and other projects. I’m also a part of a group called ‘HI-TOPS,’ and we’re finishing up a few really fun Christmas songs that we’re excited to release soon! Instagram Facebook
