  • Chloe Mayse Goes From Broken To Brand New In “Two Weeks”

Hailing from Toronto, singer-songwriter and pop-rock recording artist Chloe Mayse tracks the journey to healing in her latest ear-pleasing and compelling single, "Two Weeks." The queer Toronto-based artist won a singing competition in 2014 that landed her singing backup for Tegan and Sara at the JUNO Awards. It was a dream come true for Mayse, who had looked up to the globally successful queer musicians that served as a key influence on her music. Chloe Mayse is firmly planted in her craft, using personal life experiences about mental health and sexuality while raising awareness for both. The artist and multi-instrumentalist take a deep dive into the aftermath of a relationship with her recent single, "Two Weeks," expanding on the pain, pressures, and journey to relief after parting ways with someone close. Hitting play on "Two Weeks," the song softly opens with melancholy acoustic guitar melodies alongside Chloe Mayse's breathy and tender vocals. She softly expresses the many steps to clarity, from swiping on dating apps to calling a friend for some consolation. Landing on the hook, Mayse ramps up the emotion while expressing that she's a lost soul in this sea of lonely bodies. The song gradually expands its instrumentals to increase the power and intensity while Chloe Mayse continues climbing up the ladder to clarity. The punchy pop drums lead us into Mayse's cathartic hook that leaves us chilled to the bone, thanks to her deftly relatable and compelling lyrics. The cinematic instrumentals carry us to the outro while Chloe Mayse lets it known that she's happy to leave this person in the past once and for all. Experience the highs and lows of the post-breakup experience with some emotional and melodic help from Chloe Mayse's recent single, "Two Weeks," now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Chloe Mayse. What a conceptual and relatable single you've released with "Two Weeks." What experiences inspired you to create such a personal breakup anthem like this? Well, I have only had a couple of serious long-term relationships in my life, but I do know that I don't enjoy having to go on dates with new people, and to be honest, I am a horrible casual dater but a great partner. "Two Weeks" came from the idea that I had a habit of getting into a new long-term relationship after two weeks of being alone. This bad habit wasn't healthy because I didn't give myself time to heal from the previous relationship I just got out of, and I was never over my exes by the time I had a new girlfriend. My realization was that I feared being alone because I couldn't cope with being sad and depressed. It is normal to feel that way when you get broken up with; I just avoided feeling anything. What was your songwriting process like for "Two Weeks?" What was it like writing such vulnerable yet empowering lyrics? My songwriting process was interesting because when I wrote the song, I was reflecting on my past late at night in the apartment that I shared with my girlfriend. I remember feeling so lonely during that time, and I actually started to cry when I started brainstorming lyrics in my notebook. Writing vulnerable lyrics like this gave me the feeling of emptiness but also strength because I finally came to terms with how to hurt I was during that time, and expressing my anger in a song gave me back my power to speak up. What was the most rewarding part about creating such a cathartic song like "Two Weeks?" What did you take away from making it? "Two Weeks" gave me the opportunity to heal emotionally. I have had a lot of traumatic events happen in my life, and I usually can't process my feelings right away. The takeaway from this song is that I may have gotten my heart broken many times, but I am stronger than I think. I deserve to be loved by someone that loves me just as much as I love them. What do you want your audience to experience when hearing "Two Weeks?" Do you hope this song helps them move forward on their personal journey to clarity? I want my audience to listen to "Two Weeks" for the first time just to enjoy the beat and the catchiness of the song. The second time they listen to it, I want listeners to pay attention to the lyrics and see if they can relate to the song. It is a very relatable song if you have been broken up with or if you have been in any romantic relationship at one point in time. I would love to hear that the "Two Weeks" single provided comfort to listeners and helped them heal and move forward from heartbreak. What's next for you? My next move is to make an EP album with a grant I recently received. I love making music and sharing it with people. This is the first time that I will have help funding my dream project. There is definitely more music to be released this upcoming year. Instagram Twitter

  • Bad Example Unpacks The Best Memories In His “Suitcase”

Born in France, the new face in the Hip-hop Alt-pop scene, Bad Example makes room for changes as part of the journey that is life in his song “Suitcase.” Bad Example is a 21 years old artist who collects his experiences of his time living in France, Switzerland, and England to write songs. He has spent a couple of years cooking his own sound and recently found new inspiration while traveling to reflect on his life. Now he is sharing it with the world. The lyrics of “Suitcase” come from the hand and heart of Bad Example and has the fantastic production of Wolfgang Pander. Together they gave “Suitcase,” a nostalgic sound that opens a window to your memories so you can remember to “make space in life to allow yourself to grow,” as Bad Example said. The distorted sound of the guitar creates a low-fi kind of ambiance that makes you travel through time. It is like reviving the best moments of your life. The instrumentals show up and make silence at the perfect moments to make “Suitcase” light and fun. You never get tired of listening to it again and again. The voice of Bad Example is soft and chilling; it makes every word he sings fly smoothly into your ears to sing along with him. The lyrics are beautiful, and the chorus is catchy, “Suitcase” is the kind of song you would expect to enjoy in a concert, creating more exceptional moments with amazing people. Do you remember that time when you finally managed to have a date with that special one? The laughs and dreams you shared open-hearted are invaluable. Life has changed, but those moments will always be in your “Suitcase." Go listen to "Suitcase" today, available on all streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic Bad Example, and congratulations on your latest release, "Suitcase." What are the memories that inspired “Suitcase?" I met a girl that I traveled with for some time in Cambodia and had a great time; ultimately, it had to end, and accepting that while we were in similar places whilst over there, we were at different places in our lives back home was really tough. It’s about coming to terms with that change and that regardless of what I wish, that is the reality. How have your trips around the world influenced your music? I don’t think my music and songwriting have matured enough yet for me to truly capitalize on the opportunities I’ve had to see other cultures and lifestyles in what comes out in the music. For me, at the moment, it’s always a great way to take a moment away from the music so that I’m more ready than ever to create when I get the opportunity again. What was your main purpose in writing “Suitcase?" Mostly for selfish reasons, to be honest, after traveling, I had so much in my mind in terms of relationships and where I am in my life in general, and I really needed to have a way of processing that; the suitcase was one of those ways. What are those big changes that you are making space for? Moving on and growing up. Traveling definitely put me in some situations that, in hindsight, I could have handled better, but that’s led to me reflecting and growing up, so those changes are things I felt I needed to make to become a better me. What's next for you? Loads more music; I want to continue to write until I find a genre that I feel really comfortable in, then get really good at that, and then once I’m too comfortable, take on the challenge of some different music. I’ve also recently performed live for the first time, and that’s something I want to do a lot more of, so more if that would be awesome. Instagram Twitter

  • The Ricca Project Laments That Life Is “Nothin’ But A Hustle”

The Ricca Project uses the rhythms of blues and funk to ask for light in a world full of appearances and selfish wolves in which life is “Nothin’ But A Hustle.” From the heart of south Florida, The Ricca Project trio has created a world of blues, funk, and jam where you can say anything through music. Not only are they three high-level instrumentalists, but each of them has a powerful voice that they combine to make music that will catch your ears in a way that few artists do. “Nothin’ But A Hustle” is a lament for a world where greed and mistrust are lurking at every corner, and everything is in favor of rich men. But, there is power in the voice of Jesse Ricca, the keys of Jim Wuest, and the drums of Jaime Newitt that gives you the strength to hear it and fight back the pessimism, believing that there is still light, and you have it. Only through the swinging chords of the guitar and keys and the moving drums of The Ricca Project is it possible to listen to the harsh lyrics of “Nothin’ But A Hustle” without glooming. The instrumental work is amazing here. Plus, the potent vocals and the funky style of singing make you want to sing out loud and feel every word and beat with your heart. Listening to “Nothin’ But A Hustle” and singing alone is cathartic. You should try it while driving and feel the freedom in the wind, like trying to escape from the fake news and fake relationships that seem to keep us trapped. Prepare your throat and your air guitar, and play “Nothin’ But A Hustle” out loud. Welcome to BuzzMusic Ricca Project, and congratulations on your latest release, "Nothin' But A Hustle." What is that light that you seek in “Nothin’ but a Hustle?” The light I'm referring to is the one given to you by a stranger when needing to light a cigarette. It's asking for a little help and getting it from someone you don't know and doesn't owe you anything. Over the pandemic, I felt those little acts of kindness were forgotten. We were so scared of COVID that we lost our empathy and some of our humanity. What would a world with less darkness look like to you? This answer would need multiple books to scratch the surface. We could start by being more honest with each other and willing to listen to one another, really listen. New stations divide us because it is easier to control us that way. They use fear and the extreme sides of our political parties to make sure we see each other as enemies and not as neighbors, friends, and family dealing with a complex world. Compromise and open conversations that are not controlled or manipulated by corporations and religious institutions would be a great starting point. Who are the wolves in “Nothin' But A Hustle?" There are too many to name, but in the video, I take a shot at big pharma giving kickbacks to doctors to prescribe their medicines. I grew up and still live in South Florida, and our state is notorious for pill mills and being the main vein for the prescription opioid crisis. It's all over the news now; they knew how addictive Percocet was. They bribed members of the FDA to get it approved and even got their people appointed to the board when the bribes weren't working. I also took a shot at the mega-churches that take in; I'm not sure exactly how much because they don't pay taxes but let's say billions of millions of dollars between all of them. Joel Osteen wouldn't let people who lost everything in the flood into his church in a time of crisis. It exposed who really runs those churches. They also found hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash hidden in his walls. He used people's faith in God to make himself rich, and his lack of empathy for the people in his community was just disgusting. How did you decide what music you would give to such hard lyrics? My family was always made light of any situation; it made it easier to talk about real problems. This song can sound a bit preachy, so I figured I would make it sound fun musically. The old, sweet things attract more people than bitter things. What's next for you? This is the first original single that features me singing; I'm going to continue down that road. I plan to release more music and videos soon. The band has a lot of shows coming up, so it's going to be more performing and creating all the time. I'm super excited about it all. Instagram Facebook

Welcome to BuzzMusic Prophete, and congratulations on your latest release, "On Top." What were the three rhythms you enjoyed the most growing up in Haiti? Why? Growing up in Haiti, the three rhythms I enjoyed are the twoubadou, kompa and rara. How would you describe your musical approach and identity? I don’t have an approach quite yet. For the last 3 years, I’ve been going with how I feel and what inspires me. I pull from different genres that I enjoy, such as bossa nova, reggae, afrobeat, kompa, rnb. I am still trying to discover myself as an artist/producer to create what I can truly say is mine. Could you describe the creative process behind the creation of "On Top?" For "On Top," I was inspired by Rema’s soundgasm. I knew I wanted to make a song similar to it but hadn’t really thought much about it. I was browsing splice when I found the guitar loop that you hear mainly on the track. I started experimenting with it and added the drums and bass; then, the melody came to me. The first thing I wrote was the hook, then I sat down and wrote the verses. Could you share what drove you to create such a flirtatious song? I didn’t know when I was writing the lyrics, but I realized it after, MY WIFE. What's next for you? I recently released Melo back on October 14th, then will release my 5th title: Like A Peloton, sometime in November, followed by my last song in December. I plan on taking a break from releasing my own music to work on my debut album next year. Instagram

His pop-based melodies and emotionally-driven lyrics mark him as a true force in the pop space, and this vulnerable song is no exception. It tugs on your heartstrings with relatable lyrics of wanting to build a relationship with someone, but the timing just isn't right. Elaborating on "Collide," this refreshing song opens with sweet piano melodies that lead into Ben Tyler's breathy and clear vocals. His tender melodies and honest lyrics express all sorts of romantic scenes that spur butterflies in your tummy. But, like all good things, there's a catch. His deeply passionate and emotive vocals rip through the speakers with such an impressive vulnerability that it feels like a personal conversation with the artist. As the pop production begins expanding alongside gentle background vocals, Ben Tyler leads us to the cathartic outro with a note of hope for the future. Don't miss out; dive headfirst into the passionate and relatable realm that is Ben Tyler's honest new single, "Collide," from his recent album, :PHOENIX:, now available on all digital streaming platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Ben Tyler. Congratulations on releasing your recent album, :PHOENIX:. What experiences inspired you to create the new project? Hey, thanks! I'm really proud of how it came together. :PHOENIX: this is a very personal story about the ups and downs of my relationship with my wife. As most couples do, we went through a really difficult time for a few years, and the album speaks to that journey. What led you to make the album's passionate and sincere eighth track, "Collide?" What inspired this emotional and hopeful tune? At our lowest points, it sometimes felt daunting, struggling to find a reason to keep moving forward together. But when you've been with someone for that many years, and you're so enveloped in the life you've built together, how do you not try to search for that reason? I don't hold a lot of faith in my heart in any religious capacity, but I've always had faith in us - even at our worst. What do you hope listeners experience when hearing "Collide?" Do you hope they're able to relate to your personal situation? I think everyone can relate to these emotional situations in some way or another. Everyone has endured heartache when it comes to love and relationships. All I try to do is find a way to visualize it and bring a real personal meaning to it. How does "Collide" fit into the concept or theme of your album :PHOENIX:? "Collide" sits towards the end of the album, essentially in the death/resurrection phase. It's that realization that you're at an end but still holding onto that hope that things will somehow get better. What role does this song play in the album? If the song before it ("Ashes") signifies death, then "Collide" is acceptance and also the first sign of life. It's really the phoenix itself. What's next for you? Right now, I'm focused on sync placements. As a 37-year-old husband and father of two, I don't think it's realistic to chase fame and fortune. I'm continuing to write, but as a musician, I find there's more inspiration in grief than in happiness. So where do I go from here, being happy? I'm still searching for the answer, but I'm excited for more people to hear the album, and I hope they connect with it. Instagram Facebook
