Tye Ellen is a singer-songwriter from Houston, Texas, who enjoys writing in genres of Pop and R&B and has collaborated with artists to create hip hop and folk music. Her most recent single "This Love," is a pop, love song that was featured in Season 4 of Temptation Island in the USA. Tye reminds us time and time again that the records she creates and releases just get better and better. Tye Ellen shows off her vocal and powerful songwriting abilities on her new single, "This Love." Over this track, the gifted Houston singer spills all of her unconditional love for her other half. "This Love" means the world to her, she feels as if she's on a ride, craving his vibe and touch, explaining that she's able to connect with him without using words, they just click. Her wild, free and unconditional love takes her on an emotional rollercoaster, but it gives her that high that only love can provide. There's nothing like "This Love" and its impact on Tye and it really shows in lyrics like "Got me acting like this" and "All I need is you right here with me." She sings elegantly and with emotion and places it in the perfect spots to give us the most unforgettable melodic moments, as she leaves us with her angelic vocals and the most futuristic instrumental. Her beat choice, passion, and grit for her music are genuinely astounding, we can definitely say she'll be here for a long time, infiltrating the industry and staying unique in her craft. In this relatable single "This Love," Tye Ellen is bound to take you back to some old times or feelings to reminisce on. From the production to the crisp vocal display, this record is a must-hear and we're confident you're going to love this one. Welcome to BuzzMusic Tye, we are so pleased to have you with us today. We love your new single "This Love," tell us what inspired you to create a record like this and what type of emotions was linked to it? This song was a bit different because I actually received a brief (request) from an agency and they needed a song about love. Of course, there are different stages and thoughts that come to mind when you think of love and I wanted this to be an upbeat love anthem sort of speak. "This Love" offers us many relatable moments. What do you want people to take away from this song? I think we can all relate to that exciting feeling you get when you're in that brand new love phase and you just want to tell everyone about it and you want nothing more than to be around that person all the time. As a female artist what were some of the most challenging things you've encountered and how did you deal with them? As a mom/wife you are always juggling so much; so finding the time to make music without feeling guilty is something that I deal with but I feel like I am getting in a rhythm and have a better schedule working for me. You've mentioned that you collaborated with a producer to assist in creating "This Love," what was the process like, and did you work on it together or separately? This was a project that had a very fast turnaround. I called Chris up on Friday and sent him a few references of some vibes I was leaning towards. He created a beat/instrumental Saturday evening. I wrote to it very late Saturday night during my vacation in Miami. I flew back to Houston (home) Sunday morning and recorded it Sunday afternoon and sent it back to him for mix/mastering Sunday night. We submitted the song to the agency on Monday afternoon and it was signed to the agency and recently got placed and can be heard on "Temptation Island" Season 4 Episode 2. What's next for you? What's next for me is to keep writing and meeting new collaborators to create with. I really want a song on a commercial ad, so that would be the biggest thing I am working towards. Instagram
- Brooke Amor Shines Bright As She Gifts Us With, “Mannish Girl”
Brooke Amor is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter and producer from the Bay Area, now residing in sunny LA, and a student of Herb Albert School of Music. Even though her early releases were mostly Pop, Brooke is fallen hard for Hip Hop influenced music, a style she has always loved writing, writing that not only conveys a story but does so in a captivating and bold way. As we dive into "Mannish Girl" the instrumental grabs our attention while Brooke's voice sweeps us away immediately. Throughout "Mannish Girl" Brooke takes us back to her childhood and fondly remembers how her dad would always pick her up when she was down and cheer her up. Now, all grown up, she's able to stand tall and fend for herself, and even though she doesn't quite fit in with her surrounding environment, it doesn't matter; she has the love and strength installed by her father. Unafraid to speak her mind, "Mannish Girl" reveals all the things that set Brooke apart from the rest, and while feeling as if she's on the outside she demonstrates to her audience how she continues to persevere and ensure she ends up on top. Brooke's talent at crafting impactful lyrics are matched by the complementary instrumentals, and the two elements mesh and play off each other perfectly. Mannish Girl" proves to us once again that Brooke's love for music and creating unique and impactful pieces is stronger than ever and serves as an anthem for anyone else feeling like they are somehow on the sidelines. "Mannish Girl" is available on all major platforms. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Brooke. We are so pleased to have you here today! We love the tone you set on "Mannish Girl" and we were hoping you'd shed some light on the record itself. What was the process like when you created the record, and what inspired the lyrics? Thank you for having me! The process was definitely not linear for this song. I just was listening to the original “Mannish Boy” by Muddy Waters and thought it was just so fire. I had heard the sample of that guitar riff on “Bad to the Bone '' before of course, but the original version just caught my attention so much more with the swing and Muddy’s vocals. At first, I thought that just writing over that famous guitar riff would be cool cause it's just so simple but so good, so I did that. And the first eight bars I played off of his opening lines and then I just went my own direction. Then, kind of on a separate train of thought, I thought it would be cool to sample the song, so I did that and wrote to that also. Neither of the versions was complete and I did not really know where to go next with them except that I wasn’t feeling the traditional verse/chorus layout. So I just had the idea of combining them and I thought that was the best way to complete both of them. Lyric-wise, I feel like it’s one of the songs that resonates closest with my actual life and feelings. To me, this song is very lyric-heavy as opposed to relying on melody, so I understand if people don’t like it in that way. I just hope if anything people listen to the lyrics. It is not a crazy, obviously fictional story as some of my previous songs are. I feel like it's way more just me talking about how I feel. And “Mannish Girl” was a perfect title to me because not only does it play off the original title, but it’s kind of how the lyrics allude to how I feel. Not necessarily “mannish”, but not very feminine and I don’t feel the urge to be very feminine. And the urge to just be very hard on the outside, causes people to piss me off lol. Like I really meant it, I don’t like wearing bras so can you just get over my nipples and move on. Like the four bars that mention scars on my knees, I feel like are the hardest and most truthful lyrics I have written in a minute haha. As a female creating a title such as "Mannish Girl," what do you want people, especially your fans to take away from the record? I really just hope people think it is as cool as I think it is. I mean I guess a part of me hopes it is “relatable” to use the corny word; like I hope some people can listen and be like, “Yeah f*ck em”, cause I feel like that's kind of the broader message behind the story lol. But if it isn’t relatable, I just hope people appreciate the artistry and lyrics of it. You've created Pop songs prior to "Mannish Girl," what made you try something new, and will you continue on in the Hip Hop lane? I’ve never wanted to just be a Pop artist, I don't want to limit myself in that way. I feel like I am still finding my lane and what I like to make and what feels good. I’m trying to not limit myself in what I make. I feel like with this song I just put so much of myself into it, both the lyrics and the beat and it was something I was proud of and wanted to share regardless and I did not really care if it fits a certain genre or crowd. And I know the song is so long for the attention span of music listeners today lol. I tried to cut it down but I really couldn't find a line that I felt could be taken out. Every line I felt was important. And I have always gravitated towards Hip Hop both in what I listen to and make so it is definitely the genre I would like to continue to improve in. You have great potential and your talent is off the charts! What are 3 things you'd like to achieve this year, big or small? Thank you. I appreciate that a lot. One thing I want to do for sure is put out a music video, cause I know visuals are important and I have not put one out in a minute. I want to continue to just write and explore and get all the terrible songs out of my system lol. And also I just want to be open to more opportunities and put myself out there. I feel like when I reflect on years past, it was really my own fears or doubts that stood in my way the most, so I am just trying to be more aware of those thoughts and just do the things that scare me. Because usually, the worst thing that can come out of a situation is someone saying “no '' or “you suck”. They can't really hurt me any other way, so I just gotta get over it. What's next for you? Next is most likely another single along with that music video I mentioned earlier. This next one will definitely be a more just vibey kind of song and not as heavy and intricate as my last couple lol. I also just did a feature on my friend's song so that should be coming out soon. And I want to get back on my producer grind too so I definitely want to post more beats and release some loop kits. Instagram

Welcome to BuzzMusic Olly E, and congratulations on your latest release "Connections." We notice many aspects that sound unique to the average alternative track. What would you say your main insporation was and what did you do differently with this record that you'd like to share? The track is written about the need to come together and forget our differences in order to create a better world but musically I’m inspired by acts such as Twenty One Pilots to create a balance between rock and pop. Having Falsetto vocals in the chorus is something I’ve never done before which I think brings the chorus to life. Your genre is one of the most dominant all-around, but yours has a great message. What would you like your listeners to take away from the record "Connections?" I’d like to leave listeners with the thought of being kinder to those they know because that makes the world a better place. As an indie artist, was it a difficult process to find your sound and how do you think you've developed it throughout your music career? I’ve been writing music since before my teens so it’s been a natural progression through the years originally writing metal songs and gradually getting lighter as my tastes change. The balance between rock and pop needs to be the right fit to bring it out as an Olly E single. I visualize my sound as something which would fit in a graffiti-covered alleyway haha. Considering all aspects of your career, what is the best piece of advice you'd received that you'd like other artists to take in and implement? Do as much as you can keeping quality in mind and never compare yourself to other artists. What's next for you? I’m currently building a backing band with the hope of touring later in the year whilst searching for the backing of a record label and booking agent. Instagram Facebook

The staple, distorted guitar riffs that set this hypnotic groove in place have us swooning over the textures that are performed. Adding in the smoldering vocal layers that immediately act as a gravitational pull towards ‘Waterfall,’ this gritty yet emotionally evoking presentation has us swaying back and forth to the uniqueness brought forth. Shredded Bulbs has deemed this track a garage rock tour-de-force, full of unexpected turns and instantly memorable hooks. What we can tell you is that they’re right! The innovation that comes from this duo has them exceeding what we anticipated coming into this experience. “Waterfall” is full of momentum, much like what you’d see out in nature. When we visit these production components that allow us to feel the ebb and flow, that’s how we know we have a bold record on our hands. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Shredded Bulbs, and congratulations on your recently released single, “Waterfall.” This song has such an eclectic flair to it. What inspired this unique ambiance being brought to life? First off, thanks for the compliments! Shredded Bulbs is an absolutely new project for us. In short, we are starting from scratch. The two of us started a creative process and then decided relatively quickly to implement this project. We went into the studio with our ideas, tried out a few promising things, and elaborated our own sound step-by-step. Everything went perfectly and then - boom this pandemic hit us. No concerts, no audience. So, we came to the decision to go straight back into the studio and record Waterfall. The aim was to create music that combines and merges all the musical influences that have shaped us in our musical careers. With you two working together on the creative realm of each piece, could you please take us into what the creative process looked like when bringing this vision to fruition? New music is created very spontaneously. It is a process that has no specific rules. Sometimes the ideas arise in the rehearsal room, sometimes at home in the home studio. Soles usually come up with a basic idea. Jam with these scraps of song and Mike finds the right drumbeat for the first time. The hooks are then usually created very elaboratively and polyphonically at the end. The final touch is then added by Heinz Luschtinez @zollfreizone.at, our production engineer & partner. That is the secret, allowing our music to sound very raw, handmade but still modern, electronic, and full of pop. In your own words, what do the lyrics professed in “Waterfall” mean to you? "Waterfall" is a song about relationships, connectedness, love, togetherness, strength, and passion. All facets of being together with a beloved partner. All the ups and downs, the obstacles and hurdles that must be overcome to grow, shape, and create together. Life with a loved one special who is worth giving up, enduring pain for. Everything that “ Waterfall” should reflect. The power that is in a waterfall. The water always looks for away, even if there is no obvious way. This is the love that Waterfall describes. The community, the trust that this strength and connection knows no bounds. How does a track like “Waterfall” compare to other songs in your music catalog? Shredded Bulbs is a band that has many faces. Diversity is our characteristic. The constants in this interaction remain the catchy hooks and the characteristic voice. But our ultimate goal is to create something independent. People should say: Hey that's shredded bulbs. We don´t want to do this unit pop thing. There aren't that many bands that can claim to create their own typical sound. We hope we succeed. In any case, we will work hard on it and we won't commit to any specific genre. Rock is in our genes, and you would probably even hear it if we would create a purely electronic album. We will always experiment and develop further. But this cross-appeal of listening to Waterfall is our unique selling point and we just love to connect things. What's next for you? For us, that was just the start. We want to find our own sound even more and increase our audience. Next up is another single and EP and our debut album is in preparation. We now have a wonderful team around us, and we are working hard towards our goal of creating an album that can consistently captivate and excite the listener. Yes, and then there's the Life Performance to have similar fun in front of a large crowd, playing festivals and spreading the bulb's vibes to the people. Facebook Instagram

Welcome to BuzzMusic GT Damier! We're so excited to have you with us today. We love your single "21 Savage" and your hard-hitting bars, what sparked the idea to write such a motivational and moving record about yourself? I felt it would be a great metaphoric idea to use “21” being the age I was and “savage” being the person I was. I was conflicted n heavy in the streets acting badly back when I was 21. In "21 Savage" the vibe and lyrics suit the production perfectly, were there any challenges you faced when piecing it all together? No challenges, it's one of those songs that just naturally came to me, and those, seem to be easy and fun to do. Growing up in Ohio, how did that affect your sound and your approach to music in general? I don't really have a set sound or sound like im from Ohio and I've been alot places growing up that influenced my music like Toledo I was born and lived out with my granny and saw my first drug deal in front of her house because she lived on the corner of the street that led to a park so there used to be traffic like clockwork. I and my brothers use to challenge all the homies in the neighborhood because my granny had a basketball hoop in front so we would run the court that's how everybody knew me by hoopin first. The line I say is "14-21 I was a savage, Ii was either ballin’ or had a bad b****. " Everything you hear is real-life stories I’ve seen, lived through, or still am going through while growing up. Everybody cant walk in these shoes but I can show you through this culture of music. Who were the first few artists that inspired Damier Legato to 'pen' his first rhyme and which part of your music did they influence? I'm a 90 baby so I've grown up listening to artists from Tupac, BIG, Wayne,Juvi and the hotboys, 50 Cent, Lox, Santana, Fab to artists like The Isley Brothers, Luther, Babyface, Stevie, Marvin Gaye, MJ, and Usher. All these artists made me the type of artist I am now along with the struggles growing up. What's next for you? I have a few interviews otw that you'll be seeing real soon with TOHIO, a few notable features coming like 2 singles with Dominican Artist, Dollie Monroe” that's the homie we make hits together. I'm the only American-based Artist with whom she has collaborated and with her talent and sex appeal, I felt it's only right to show her off in the American hip-hip culture so we're doing some big things together I can't tell you too much. I also have a big feature with RMC Mike from “ghetto boys” who are from around the way in Michigan tryna stay locked in with the midwest. Dropping that first day of summer and right after im looking to drop my summer EP then the deluxe version will be released the day of my birthday Nov. 20th. I will reveal the name of the EP the day I drop the feature with RMC Mike. Not to mention, Im running a label called Gang Tiez in which I have multiple artists dropping their singles and videos all 2022. Watch out for GANG TIEZ's own, GT Damier Legato, all year! Instagram
- Autonomica Brings The Heat On New Single, "She's Got Your Name"
Autonomica is a four-piece alternative-punk band formed in the heart of Los Angeles, California in 2021 by Filip Ilic (guitar) and Jeremy Long (drums). Shortly thereafter, Jack Heldt (bass) and Maria Schneider (vocals) joined the group. During the most unprecedented times, these four musicians united as a team with one goal: to rock as many socks off as possible. As a band, Autonomica strives to include both the familiar roots of punk music with a new modern twist, thus combining the familiar with the unique to make one incredible sound. "She's Got Your Name" opens up with a gritty and electrifying guitar piece by Filip llic as the vigorous drumming by Jeremy Long enters the soundscape. Maria Schneider matches the energy, singing with an edgy, charged emotion that kicks the song into high gear. The raw and unfiltered lyrics add both attitude and prowess to the track. One of the many stand-out lines is when Maria sings: "What's good doesn't always sell" (we all know that is the harsh reality of the music industry). The band's collective effort brings "She's Got Your Name" to the perfect place sonically. This exhilarating musical journey takes you to the highway to hell, as you cruise down the blazing concrete, "She's Got Your Name" provides the perfect backdrop. You will find yourself enthralled by the grunge-like atmosphere, wanting more and more. Autonomica's punk rock prowess is evident throughout this track, we're certain that heads will turn and listeners will be on the watch for future releases. In the meantime get to know Autonomica's name and stream their raging new single, "She's Got Your Name" today. Welcome To BuzzMusic Autonomica! We're so excited to have you with us today! This is such an electrifying single "She's Got Your Name," what started the whole concept and how did you decide on it as a collective? Filip Ilic (Guitarist): Thank you for having us, BuzzMusic! Pretty much with all of our songs, I would write the music. I usually record the demos in my kitchen using a guitar, a bass, and a drum machine. When they’re finished, I send the recording to the rest of the band members (Jack, Jeremy, and Maria), and then we would practice it together during one of our rehearsals. “She’s Got Your Name” was created exactly that way. It’s the band’s fifth original song. Another thing we do in Autonomica is rotating lyricists. Sometimes, our drummer, Jeremy Long, writes the lyrics, and other times I write them myself. With “She’s Got Your Name,” however, our incredible vocalist Maria Schneider was the lyricist. Her lyrics blended so well with the instrumental. It took the music to a heavier level! When it came down to deciding on which original we should record first, everyone in the band instantly agreed that “She’s Got Your Name” was our strongest song. It’s energetic. It’s raw. It doesn’t slow down. The perfect introduction to the band. We love the team effort in bringing all the necessary pieces to life for one full-fledged sound. Was it always in the plans to create this type of authentic music or did it happen organically during the creative process? Jeremy Long (Drummer): Honestly, I would have to say a little of both. Filip and I started the band a few months before bringing in the supremely talented Jack Heldt and the absolutely incomparable Maria Schneider, and it was certainly always our plan to create this type of music early on. In fact, I remember an early discussion with Filip about wanting to capture the raw driving force of the early punk scene, but with a new modern-day flair, which would combine to make one unique sound. That being said, I don’t think either of us realized the magnitude of kick-ass tunes that would be birthed once Jack and Maria came on board and we all got into the rehearsal space together. As cliche as it may sound, every member of this group brings their own something special to the table and I consider myself very lucky to be a part of it with each of them. Each member is so good at what they do that when Filip brings a song demo into a rehearsal, we all really expand upon that together, as a group, with each member adding their own little twist that amps it up to 11. So, for that reason, it is also, at least in part, created organically during the creative process. To tell you the truth, I am impressed by each of my fellow band members on a daily basis! The beautiful electric vocals, guitars, bass, and energetic drumming set a thrilling mood for the song, how do you make sure everyone contributes equally when creating records like these together? Jack Heldt (Bassist): I feel we all like to put our personal touch on each track that we come up with. This one, as previously stated, was brought in musically by Filip and lyrically by Maria. Personally, I loved the riff of this track right away and wanted to find a way to accentuate it the best I could. Being the bass player, and having the song start with a bass riff, I wanted to create a big, driving rhythm sound with Jeremy for Filip and Maria to really do their thing on top of. So I cranked up a fuzz pedal and got to work! This one really came together in the rehearsal room and is still one of my favorite tracks that we have. I also would like to mention the great production from Logan Nix. He really nailed the sound we were after in the studio and helped bring the song to life. We tried our best to collectively create a song that really hits hard the whole way through and is a good representation of who we are as a band and individuals. We hope everyone who listens to it digs what we came up with. Stay tuned for the next one! As a fresh new band on the block, what would you like the main message for new supporters and fans to take away from "She's Got Your Name?" Maria Schneider (Vocalist): “She’s Got Your Name” is a female anthem. This song was written with the message of the power of feminine energy and sexuality. The lyrics I wrote to deal with frustrations of objectification, exploitation, and feelings of inferiority. The main message new supporters should take away from this song is to reclaim your worth. I hope listeners feel empowered. This song has killer instrumentals from each of my insanely talented bandmates and it’s definitely one to rock out to! What's up next? Autonomica: We’re in the process of recording for our first EP and we have a show at The Viper Room on Saturday, May 28th! Doors open at 6:30 PM and we go on at 7:00 PM. You can request tickets at bookautonomica@gmail.com. Or DM us @autonomicaofficial on Instagram or Facebook. Come check us out! Instagram Facebook
- Rachelle Show Keeps Her Head Held High in Her New Single, “Best Is Yet to Come”
Rachelle Show is an R&B singer-songwriter born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Starting at the age of 9, she had to fend for herself to survive abuse for the years to come and still has never lost her hope for better days ahead. At 20-years-old she escaped that emotionally and physically abusive environment and has been working tirelessly to build a brighter future for herself. Back in 2019, when Rachelle Show was couch surfing between friends' homes, she began writing songs about her situation. She states that she wrote these songs as a form of therapy to express the pain and trauma of being 20- years old and having to support herself and figure it out independently. As her thoughts come to us in the sonic form of her latest single, "Best Is Yet To Come," Rachelle Show professes her emotions to us vulnerably. Her angelic croons grace us from the moment we're all ears for her brilliant artistry. Allowing us to feast on the prevailing words that echo through our speakers, the connection brought to life by Rachelle Show is rather magnetic. As she has her audience relating to the optimism shed from her trials and tribulations in life, we realize the beauty that comes from a record like this. Over piano-forward instrumentation, she applies spatial cues that have her words leaving an impact as they simmer in our minds. Encouraging those to set their sights on the road ahead, Rachelle Show proves to us that the "Best Is Yet To Come." The intimacy of this ballad leaves us basking in the quintessence of Rachelle Show as an artist and entertainer. Be on the lookout for this fierce femme as she is currently working on a five-track fusion E.P that blends R&B, Pop, and Hip-hop, set to be released in December 2022. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Rachelle Show, and congratulations on the release of your latest single, "Best Is Yet To Come." We love how your bravo and optimism are showcased deeply on this record. What was the exact inspiration that led you to create this song? I've had to fend for myself for as long as I can remember. Back in 2019, I managed to escape an emotionally and physically abusive environment. One night I decided to pack my things and leave because I decided then that I deserved so much more than I was tolerating. I started to write 'Best is Yet To Come' when I was couch surfing between friends' homes in hopes that a brighter future was ahead. The only way I could survive was to pour my pain out through words and music. It was the only escape that allowed me to keep my sanity. How do you find the courage and motivation to keep your head held high when you've experienced specific hardships in life? I am a huge believer in becoming self-sufficient and putting in the hard work to get there because nobody is going to do it for you. I believed that I deserved more than I was getting. It's just like any tough situation in life. You fall a few times - but you got to make sure you get back up, dust yourself off and keep moving. When I made the decision to bet on myself, I had no choice but to hold my head high because no one was coming to do it for me. It was hard and extremely traumatizing, but I kept focusing on self-love, trusting myself, and hoping for a brighter future in exchange for temporary discomfort. For as long as I can remember, I have always had the dream of being a singer and songwriter. I truly believe that some of the crushing experiences I went through were necessary for me to achieve my vision and work towards my life goal of being in the music industry. Music is my survival tool, and that's what makes it so solid for me. Apart from the strikingly beautiful words heard in "Best Is Yet To Come," what other message would you like your audience to take away from this release? My fervent hope is that my music will guide all who are struggling to the right path, regardless of their circumstances. My song speaks to not only the abused but also the abusers. Sometimes hurt people hurt people, and we are all hurting inside. I hope that in the years to come, we can break that cycle of abuse and heal our families. There are people who took their stories and their struggles, turned them around and made them into art. And this is what I want to communicate to women that the best is yet to come no matter what situation you're going through. Be kind and spread the love so we can all heal together. What has been your biggest takeaway from embarking on your musical journey? I definitely think I was made for this. It's going to require a lot of time and effort invested into my career, but I know that it will all be worth it in the end because I was born to do this. After all, my last name is Show. What's next for you? I recently got accepted into round 17.0 of the remix project, so I am excited to see what comes of that. I also plan on releasing my very first EP by the end of this year. I think people should expect to see a lot more of me. I believe that articulating my life experiences through music can touch many hearts and inspire many individuals to fight for and believe in their rights. My story is a tale of struggle, trauma, and pain that I was able to crystallize into hope and perseverance. I have a lot more stories to tell and more of my heart to share. I cannot wait to share it with the world. Instagram TikTok
- Fritz Michel Comes to Terms That “We Are What We Are”
Singer-songwriter Fritz Michel has been eagerly awaiting the release of his debut EP, 'On The Rocks.' Like his vast audience, the anticipation comes with an eagerness that can't be beaten. Like his previous singles, all of which accumulated thousands of hits on YouTube and Spotify, "We Are What We Are" embraces a pure pop sound similar to Belle & Sebastian, Badfinger, and Big Star. Holding onto a flair for harmonic melodies and certain lyrical largess, Fritz Michel finds himself taking a bold step forward in his emerging music career. The lead single's music video captures our attention most when discussing the highly anticipated EP. "We Are What We Are" takes a rural approach to the storyline etched into this visual component. Commencing with time lapses that have us taking in the great outdoors, the detail laced into each scene unveils a story worth listening to. Fritz Michel's eclectic embrace has us following the curiosity of the new resident at the countryside home basking in nature. With random occurrences that provoke more curiosity, a sense of belonging comes to life as more and more people with smiles on their faces appear and engage with the young femme catching her footing. Through Fritz Michel's soothing timbres that take this slow tempo bop to the next level, we admire the expression that makes up our exploration path in "We Are What We Are." Each scene's abstract and poetic essence leaves us stunned and wondering when we can undergo the plot again. Lucky for us, Fritz Michel is full of surprises, and if "We Are What We Are" is anything like what we'll find within 'On The Rocks,' then viewers are in for a slice of creativity at its finest. Welcome to BuzzMusic, Fritz Michel, and congratulations on the recent release of "We Are What We Are." With such an abstract music video to pair with this song, what can you tell us about the inspiration behind the video? Thank you. We saw the video as a 21st Century riff on "The Wizard of Oz" with nods to both "Wicked" and 1978 super-soul musical The Wiz. Director Gavin Price and I share a background in experimental theater. We envisioned combining elements of dance and ensemble work along with location-specific found objects to tell the story. You will spot Dorothy's red shoes if you look carefully! How does the music video for "We Are What We Are" speak to your work as an artist? Was this a departure for you or in line with your past video releases? The Oz story reminds us that life really is about the journey and your traveling companions rather than the arrival. I've discovered lately that we are always a work-in-progress and lines up with my artistic ethos. I want the "We Are What We Are" video to play like an old-school MTV-style music video with its own narrative. Pulling a big cast together and choreographing the dances with Gavin was a big departure for me. That said, I'm a huge history buff, so pulling from the past always informs my work. I used 1930s Golden Age animation for the "Stardust" video. Found archival footage of divers and daredevils illustrates the "King of Corona" video. That song is also on the 'On The Rocks' EP. You have just released a new single, "Suddenly You Love Me." What can you tell us about the song? "ZAI, ZAI, ZAI, ZAI" (the lyric) says it all! "Suddenly You Love Me" was a big international hit in the late 1960s from a British Invasion band called The Tremeloes. French pop star Joe Dassin covered the same song as "Siffler sur la Colline" in 1969. Based on a 1968 Italian number called "Uno Tranquilo," "Zai, Zai, Zai" was covered in at least 15 different languages ranging from Malaysian to Romanian. I grew up in France listening to Joe Dassin, and French is my first language. I thought singing in French would prove an interesting creative challenge. The chord progression sounds a bit like some European folk song, and there's something timeless and mysterious in that melody. I wanted to keep the mod and dancehall vibe but modernize the sound without losing the fun swing. After exploring both the French and English lyrics, I think this one's got a singular jaunty international vibe that speaks to strange information-laden times! With this debut EP, On The Rocks, I'm introducing listeners to my journey and voice as a singer/songwriter, which began in earnest during the pandemic. As weeks of lockdown dragged on and I felt stranded in existential crisis, stepping out of my comfort zone creatively offered an escape. This batch of songs speaks to my memories of loss and hopes for healing. I try to write songs that I'd want to hear and then find stories in the color of our daily human vignettes. I pull from lots of influences, including jazz, classic rock, 80s New Wave, indie folk, and pop What should we expect from your forthcoming EP, 'On The Rocks?' I think the best songs are ones that listeners find relatable, so I'm hoping to connect with audiences and start a new conversation. Music, I think, fills some need for bliss and magic whether you are performing, composing, or listening. The dialogue between the artist and the audience drew me into acting, directing, and performing many years ago, so I think of this EP On The Rocks as a natural continuation. I've also had the great fortune to work with my amazing producers, Jason Cummings and Tosh Sheridan. Without their collaboration and musicianship, these songs would not exist. What are you most excited for listeners to take away from this project? I'm hoping that listeners and viewers (since I love making music videos as well) find something they trip over and don't forget! That's where we're all part of the creative process together. On The Rocks is about taking risks. Mine, I take creatively, and I'm looking for an audience to take a chance on me. What's next for you? I'm looking forward to performing live. You learn so much about the songs as they come to life in different ways without the safety net of the studio. That process of creating and then going live is always where it's been for me, whether on film, on stage, or playing music! It's terrifying too, but that keeps me searching for the sweet spot! Like anything, music can be confusing, paradoxical, embarrassing, and sometimes just bizarre. Instagram
