One of the most prominent MC’s in Toronto, LolaBunz takes no prisoners with her first single of 2020. "Sheisty" tells the story of giving people your loyalty, only for them to betray your trust. The song is delivered with such raw emotion and masterful dictation that it’s clear to say, this year LolaBunz came to win. Known for her fierce lyricism and woke mentality, Lola proudly represents her city with strength and dedication like no other. Landing major performances on network television channels and at major festivals, such as BET, South by Southwest and A3C Hip-Hop Festival. LolaBunz’s talent is being recognized the world over. The artist regularly overcomes stereotypes placed on her as a female rapper and performs above and beyond the expected narrative. She continues to shock listeners, with her ability to sing, rap, be gritty and be conscious. In honor of these abilities, she even named her album 'Wild Card'. The last year has been incredible for LolaBunz's growth as an artist. She's been given the opportunity to perform on stages and meet fans internationally, as well as work with some of the most influential artists in the industry; but LolaBunz’s 2020 is looking even brighter. She kicks off the year with a bang, working with Grammy-Award Winning producer BricksDaMane on her new single "Sheisty". BricksDaMane is known for his work with Drake, Yung Thug, Baka Not Nice and many more. LolaBunz is redefining what it means to be a female rapper within the music industry and paving her way to icon status. Listen to "Sheisty" by LolaBunz here. Hey Lolabunz, welcome to BuzzMusic and thank you for being here! "Sheisty" is an incredible song that boasts powerful lyrics as well as a catchy hook. What was the process of writing this song? Shiesty was a song I actually wrote quite a few months back. It was the production that stuck out to me at first. The pianos, that heavy base I had to tell a story on this piece of art. To me, it told a story on its own, which inspired me to tell my own story. My music always comes from a real place and I like to tell real stories. At the time I wrote this song I was going through quite some hard times learning time and time again that not everyone who you think you can trust is worthy of your trust. Hence the meaning of the slang term "Shiesty". You are known for delivering fierce lyrics every time you perform your work, whether that be on stage or in the studio. Where does this fire to share your music come from? The thing is I LOVE performing. Before I started making music I was an actor, then I did mainly spoken word. But Hip hop brought out a different energy. I started off mainly freestyle rapping, battle rapping with all the guys in middle school, and my mission was always this; "I'm gonna go harder than the boys do". I told myself that since I started rapping at 11. So every time I wrote a song or performed I just always had it in my mind to go hard because you never know which song or which performance is going to take you to the next level in this industry. I want people to listen to me and remember my name. I want them to see me on stage and feel my passion. Being a female in a male-dominated industry, you have to work twice as hard to get noticed. And I'm not the type of female artist who sells sex as many females do. That's not me, so I let my lyrics do the work. When people hear the name LolaBunz I'm coming with that fire every time. You’ve had great success performing at festivals throughout North America. How did it feel to break out of Toronto, Canada and into the music market of the U.S.A.? It was really liberating and exciting. I've been performing since the age of 16/17 I've performed at probably almost every venue in Toronto, breaking out takes a lot of work and dedication. It wasn't easy, some of these festivals I applied for year after year and got No's, but I kept on writing new material and kept on trying before I was successful. In Toronto, it's easy to get discouraged, to feel like giving up, to feel like people are not supporting you because unfortunately lots of people won't really support you in this city until you blow. Breaking out and getting flown out to different cities, and states were just more motivation for me to keep going hard and know that as long as I do so more opportunities will continue to come to God willing. 2019 was a huge year for you but 2020 is going to be even bigger! What should we expect from you in the months to come? Definitely some more music videos, and more versatile sounds. Most people don't know I also sing and I am Nigerian so I dive into Afrobeat as well. So expect some surprises this year for sure! instagram.com/thelolabunz #BuzzMusic

Donnie Fresh uses his talents as a songwriter, producer, and rapper to spread his message of truth to the world. His musical journey started young, when he relocated to Houston, TX, in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. He learned to play guitar, piano, and other instruments and began recording his first mixtapes. These he would sell at his high school to help his mother pay the bills. 15 years later, and Donnie is taking the world by storm with his music. He takes influence from artists such as Cash Money, Tyrone Davis, and Anthony Hamilton to create his unique sound that he will continue to develop through his career. “Farewell Letter” is an upbeat, powerful R&B rap song off of Donnie’s latest EP “What Happened Last Thursday”. Using smooth, vigorous beats and piercing vocal effects, Donnie Fresh shows off his skills in production and performance. With lyrics like “I made this song just in case we never speak again”, Donnie grabs your attention and keeps you wanting more. He sings of all the painful moments a person goes through when they lose their significant other, like realizing you love someone more than they love you, or typing out meaningful messages only to delete them moments later. Donnie Fresh uses his voice as a songwriter to project his emotions into music, all the while keeping it fresh and entertaining. Make sure to listen to “Farewell Letter” by Donnie Fresh here. Hey Donnie Fresh, and welcome to BuzzMusic! We loved your new single “Farewell Letter”, and especially the thought and detail that went into it. Where do you take your inspiration from, and do you typically focus on your own experiences while writing? I get all my inspiration from my life and personal experiences that been through or was around. “Farewell Letter” is a perfect explanation of my REAL life. The hurt, pain, the lies that people every day. That song set me free. What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome to make it to where you are today? What are you most proud of? The biggest challenge I had to overcome to get to where I am today was myself. I had to learn to get out of my way, be open to new ideas and methods. Once I started to open up my ways I become a better writer and storyteller. And my most proud moment was when I did my first show in Waco and the crowd knew the words to my song. You started selling your first mixtapes when you were in high school to help financially support your family. Have you always known you wanted a career in music, and how has your musical process evolved since those days? Yes I always have known that I wanted to be a musician. My whole life, from being little and watching cash money and master p, TI, etc I knew I wanted to tell my story. And it evolved a lot because watching them I learned how to move like an artist and make my music quality like there’s. What is one thing you want people to take away from your music, or in other words your primary message to the world? That it is okay to be yourself. We all go through things that change us. Don’t be afraid to tell your story. What can your fans anticipate next from you Donnie? My album in August, more music, more video, more success.

We can't wait to hear the rest of the album, there will be a song for everyone on 'The Man In All My Stories.' Listen to "A Better Man" here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Mother Rose! We're very excited about your new album and release party! Could you talk to us a bit about the writing and production process for the album? How long has it been in the works? Thank you for having us, BuzzMusic! Yes, this album has been about 3 years in the making and oh man, it was a crazy experience! It started with us going into a hiatus at the end of 2015, and then going into the studio to write a bunch of songs in 2017. We officially started recording the songs in February of 2018, and we’re finally releasing this sucker now, in 2020. We took our sweet time with these songs, and we hope people will love them as much as we do. It might feel both exhausting and relieving to finally have the album done! Are there any interesting stories that you'd be able to share with us? During all of that, we lost a drummer, we gained a drummer, we lost that drummer, and then gained our old drummer back; some of us got married, one of us got a minor heart attack, one of us built a whole entertainment media production empire, we all got a bunch of new equipment, and now we cannot wait to perform again after so long! The band's style has such a unique yet aggressive hard-hitting sound, are there any influences that inspired the sound? Any idols that are looked up to? Individually, every one of us has a different musical preference—one of us is a metalhead, one of us is a Spanish rocker, one of us is a punk, one of us is into psychedelic rock, and one of us is into Tom Waits! Specifically, though, the top 3 influences for our style and this album would be Kings of Leon, Pearl Jam, and The Beatles. After all this time working on the album, and then the release party, is there anything new planned for Mother Rose? Are there any goals that the band would like to achieve in 2020? We are definitely shooting to hit the Troubadour, Echo Rising, go back to the Slidebar in Fullerton, and put together an LA tour to play some great venues and bars to continue playing our new music and gather more listeners/ fans. One day get to perform at Coachella and play a set or play along some of our favorite artists/bands. Mainly create a name for ourselves and work hard to be the next big thing. Can you tell our readers about your album release listening party happening on March 7th? Our album listening party/show is our showcase and event to show our friends, family, fans and new listeners our first full-length album “The Man In All My Stories” and present a new set of music live that we have work on these past few years. We’re happy to have our host Walter Reyes, our two supporting acts Order Of The Diamond and Midnight Motives followed by our DJ for the night LinusDayz presents a memorable night for all of us and celebrate the hard work we have put to this album/event. facebook.com/motherrosemusic instagram.com/motherrosemusic #BuzzMusic
- Behind the Scenes With Athena Renee and What Its Like Being on Tour With Oprah
Welcome, Athena Renee! Thank you for your time today. I would love to dive right in and learn more about you as a person. Can you give us a brief walk-thru of your life musically? How you started and where you are now? Thank you for having me. I'm honored. I come from a small town in Southeast Georgia called Douglas. There are only 3 activities you can do in a town that small without getting into trouble... Join an academic team at school (Math & Debate team and French club), athletics, or sing in the choir. Singing in the local church choir led me to lead songs for the Georgia mass choir. After I graduated (in Finance with emphasis Quantitative Analysis) from college, I started to write songs for major and indie artists. It was just something that came naturally to me and it was therapeutic to my soul. How did you know that music is what you wanted to pursue full time? Well. While being a writer, my day job was in Finance and Accounting. There were only 2 years of my life that I was a full-time artist. I always felt the need to always come back to my business side. I'd feel so guilty that I wasn't spending ALL of my time in music like some others. But now I've embraced the fact that I can love both and I can teach other artists that they can too. Artists have been taught that we are the oil to business's water, but that's not true. Two of my favorite universal languages math and music. Why shouldn't I apply them both? Long tangent, I know. Ha! We know you are on tour with OPRAH! Super exciting. What has that experience been like? Awesomely awesome! Oprah is doing great work touring and encouraging others to move on their 2020 Vision. I'm grateful to be a part of this positive movement. I've discovered so much about myself all while doing what I love with one of the best to do it. I'm so grateful. Through this event, I've learned about my strengths and my weaknesses which is what my upcoming EP "DISCOVERIES" is about... self-discovery. We must know - how did you end up on tour with Oprah? Raise Singers in Los Angeles, DayBreaker, Oprah Winfrey Productions, and Chris Wade productions. Your voice is so special. What do you hope listeners take away after hearing your music? That we all are human (some of us aren't) and we should always reflect and focus on getting better as we age. Like wine. Between creating in the studio or performing live on stage, which is most enjoyable to you and why? I love both, but I crave performing on stage. I don't know why but I don't care what anyone says when I got the mic. It's just me and God up there at that time, you know, having a conversation. I connect more to people when I do that. The thing I most love about the studio is I get to challenge myself creatively. I get to become different characters through my music. I can truly channel energy when writing. When you really need a boost creatively, what fuels you and is there something you seek out to do that will help spark that creativity? Me. I love to write by myself but when I co-write I can bounce off of others. Play games to creatively expand our vision for the songs. Oh and sleep helps too. Ha! Where can fans connect with you online and get their hands on the new music? My personal artist account (www.athenarenee.com) and/or my Keynote Concerts (www.wrkeynoteconcerts.com). You find my music there or every music and video outlet out there. #BuzzMusic

- Tall Children and Youngr Leave a Lasting Impression With the Release of "Last For Long"
When you hear the new song, "Last For Long" by Tall Children and Youngr, you’ll not soon forget it. Bringing two of the UK’s most prominent voices in pop together, this song delivers a funk-rich vibe and a powerful message. The world is in a constant state of change and it’s a fact that at one moment you’re here and in the next moment you are gone. Now, we can choose to live in fear of that truth, or we can live to the fullest, just like this song suggests. "Last For Long" begins as though the artist is speaking to a friend, and advising them to appreciate the here and now. As the hook starts, “What a time to be alive, find your whole new drive,” are the lyrics sung by the artist. We are reminded that everything in life, including life itself, doesn’t ‘last for long’ and we are to enjoy it while we can, make the best decisions while being kind to others and ourselves. Tall Children is a project by Ben Hughes, and the result of a life of dedication to his craft. He began his journey into music by picking up a guitar and has grown into an outstanding musician who has performed alongside Paulo Nutini, The Zutons and Sir Paul McCartney himself; but not long after, Ben felt the powerful need to explore and develop his own artistry. He is dedicated to the development of both himself and others. While mentoring young artists in achieving their creative pursuits, Ben was inspired to name his project ‘Tall Children’. A name that embodies a message of perpetual youth and inspires us to age, but never lose our childlike wonder. Collaborating with musical powerhouse Youngr, the two artists were able to write "Last For Long" in a single day. The final song exists somewhere between Ibiza Club banger and Acoustic-Pop while being completely memorable. Hello Tall Children, welcome to Buzz Music and thank you for being here! The message you share in your new song ‘Last for long’ is important but can be hard to hear. How do you balance this message of impermanence with playfulness? I guess the underlying message behind this song is positivity. My main agenda was always going to be fun and playfulness. The main chorus hook line and as you say the theme of impermanence is more a reference to the bad times. Millennials seem to be hugely concerned with larger issues such as climate change, BREXIT, gender classification or the current systems of government and politics to name a few examples. This song is a positive outlook on all those negative things associated with them, saying that whatever your thoughts on the bad stuff, the fact that it won’t ‘Last For Long’ is the truth. That is how I reconcile the fun and the uncertainty, as the chorus states “it’s time to be alive”! You began your musical career by picking up the guitar and after years of dedication, found yourself gracing stages with legends. How does your past as a session musician influence your music today? Certainly being in the session world has helped me strengthen my musical muscles. It’s also been a tremendous privilege working with some of the biggest names in the music biz. It’s all helped to keep me grounded and more or less sane! Going into sessions is all about knowing your stuff and that not only speeds up the whole writing/recording process but also I believe increases your creativity and to strive for great things. The best session guys are always the ones with the most ideas! My music is heavily influenced by that world and those experiences because I’m constantly trying to up my game and come up with the ideas that work best. After realizing that you wanted to pursue your own project, you also spent a lot of time aiding others in achieving their musical goals. What inspires you to help other artists grow? The bottom line for me is that it’s good to help people regardless of whether their goals are musical or otherwise. The inspiration for this altruism I guess is the concept of basic human brotherhood. However, in music, you see this really come alive in abundance because all the best music tends to be a process that has been shared, collaborated, sound boarded, etc. Very rarely are people isolated in the music business, to get anywhere you have to be all about sharing. A classic case in point, of course, is Billie Eilish and Finneas. I genuinely love hearing people’s creativity and seeing them go on to achieve their best. I think by helping others, you help yourself. What can we expect to hear next from Tall Children? The last few releases have been collaborations so I think the next one in line will be a stand-alone piece. There’s also a live show and tour in preparation so in terms of what is coming I can only say that I’m super excited and there are loads more to come very soon in 2020. facebook.com/TallChildrenMusic tallchildren.co.uk #BuzzMusic
- Canadian Recording Artist JCT Releases New Single, “Minha Gente”
JCT is a Canadian recording artist whose here with his promising new release of “Minha Gente”. “Minha Gente” was a rhythmically enticing song equipped with great flavor and a stylish arrangement that will have the listener focused in on each transition in the song. The finely-calibrated lyrics that JCT was able to deliver with his exciting and enigmatic energy made “Minha Gente” an easily accessible song to those attracted to the charismatic nature of dancehall and afrobeat music. However, “Minha Gente” still managed to create a genre-bending aesthetic showing a multitude of elements ranging from Reggaeton to R&B, even with an old-school Euro freestyle and flow. JCT is a polished artist with eclectic vibes in “Minha Gente” which will for sure attract a crowd towards him and leave you wanting more. It’s this everlasting selfish satisfying feeling you get when you hear your favorite song and wish it could be longer! “Minha Gente” will have you replaying the single over and over again just to embrace the limitless vibe you’ve felt when you first heard the song. JCT has surely proven to us that he’s a definitive artist of the future and we’re excited to see what’s next in store for him. Welcome to BuzzMusic JCT! Canada has birthed many great artists such as Drake, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, and more. What is the impact you hope to leave on your listeners and how do you plan on representing your hometown? My goal is to make music that my fans love to listen to and dance to and hopefully inspires them to chase their dreams. I'm a pretty positive person so I try and deliver that energy through my music. As a Luso Canadian, I hope to help pave the way for other Luso Canadians who dream of the arts as others have done before me. Knowing you’re a multi-talented and skilled individual, what’s the most challenging aspect in the creative process of a song like your newest release “Minha Gente”. Would it be the songwriting, recording process, or production portion of the single and why? The most challenging part of this track was trying to collide 2 languages and how we would layout the way in which it was delivered while still having it sound good. And then we had to make it all fit with a reggaeton style so it was a little tricky no doubt. But once I got started in the writing process, it came together pretty quickly. What were your intentions with “Minha Gente”? What inspired the songwriting approach towards this song? Well, my friends back in the Azores had been bugging me for something new they could listen to for a while but I couldn't wrap my head around the direction I wanted to go... Then 1 night back in Toronto I went out with some friends to a nightclub, and we took the dance floor over... It was in the little Portugal community in Toronto so the setting was perfect. We were out dancing having a good time and then bang... the chorus came over me... It hit me like a ton of bricks. The next day I was in my studio and Minha Gente was born. It started off as a quest to please some friends with this track, but here's hoping people all over the globe in all nationalities enjoy it, and it helps showcase our culture a little more. You incorporate many of your different sounds and styles into your music to create a nice layered single. Which genre would you consider to be the leading factor of “Minha Gente”? Although the track is in 2 languages, the most important thing was to make it fit with the reggaeton style. That's the direction I wanted to go in. What can we expect to see from you throughout 2020? Well, I like to move in silence without too much noise, so I won't say much about what else may or may not be coming in 2020 and beyond... But most definitely lookout for the music video for Minha Gente. We've been hard at work putting it together and I'm excited to see my vision for this slowly coming to fruition. - Music Video Premiere: Strange Neighbors Explore the Sweet Side in "Cavities"
Strange Neighbors is a power-pop group that is performed by Aidan on vocals, Dana on bass, Tracey on drums, and Zach on guitar. Their sound is known for having sparkly guitars, walking bass-lines, rock solid drums, and passionate vocals that lift the song. In July of 2019, Strange Neighbors released their debut album, "How to Human", which features 28 minutes of musical songwriting that ranges from middle school dance to time in fancy Cairo apartments. The group recently released their single, "Cavities" from their upcoming EP accompanied by an eye-catching music video. “Cavities" is a fun, high energy track. It features edgy drums (Strange Neighbors signature sound), twinkly guitars, and soft moving vocals. The song opens with a high tempo solid drum groove and then leads into verse with Aidan's vocals and twangy guitar. The song moves to a hooky chorus before continuing its journey. The music video belonging to "Cavities" captures the mood of the song perfectly. It focuses on band members, their instrumentation, and their singing. The video has its charm by singers switching to comedy every few shots. Some are eating a popsicle or shaving. This charming approach provides the perfect touch to "Cavities”. Listen to "Cavities" here. Hello, Strange Neighbors welcome to BuzzMusic! We've been jamming to "Cavities" and couldn't help but wonder, how did the song come to be? What influenced the songwriting and production? This song started when Aidan brought the lyrics and melody to practice one day. The first lines were odd enough to catch everyone’s attention, especially for a pretty dark song. It turned out upbeat and silly, like us. This is typically how our songwriting process goes - either Aidan or Zach will bring the bones of a new song to the table, and the band approaches the composition process collaboratively. Our sound has gelled together as the band has gotten closer and shared more unique experiences. We start off playing what we hear in our head off the bones of the song, and it takes life from there. Tracey (drummer) tends to create her drum parts based upon the riff and vocal stylings. She just listens to a song once or twice and creates her parts piece from the piece, intro to verse to chorus and so on. She is highly influenced by oldies and classic rock, so the drum parts in “Cavities” are definitely a derivative of that style sound. Zach’s guitar parts on the song draw a lot of inspiration from Johnny Marr and George Harrison. “Cavities” two solos seem “especially Beatlesque” to him. Aidan’s songwriting style is Tongue-in-Cheek Moody. Strange Neighbors always tries to bring out the fun side in things, but there are always a lot of hidden meanings and deeper stories within the lyrics, which makes it all even more fun for us. Even if it can be kind of sad. And that’s kind of what Cavities is about in a way. Enjoying the sweetness of things even if it ends up bad for you. Being able to look at the most horrific moments of your own life or history and laughing through it, but genuinely belly laughing, because there still always has to be a joy. Our producer, Mike Dwyer of the Bunker Recordings, is great and we’ve built a great relationship with him over the years. When recording our upcoming EP “Illuminasti” (Cavities is the EP single) it was clear we had developed more of “our sound”, and consequentially, Mike captured that sound so damn well. We are so happy with how the upcoming EP’s songs fit together. Hearing how musically well the different parts in your music jells together, there must be a lot of chemistry within the group! How did Strange Neighbors come to be? Thank you! Strange Neighbors was born in late 2017 when Aidan (vox) and Tracey (drums) met through Instagram and would DM each other fawning over fellow beloved female musicians, and their mutual desire to be in womxn energy-driven band. We shared stories of music in our lives and we decided then and there to make this happen. Zach (guitar) responded to Aidan’s Facebook that was something along the lines of “Looking for a rad lead guitarist for a rock band with 2 queer femmes” in an NYC Musician Facebook group, and he was the perfect ingredient. That’s when we happily settled into our little family, the current lineup of Dana (bass), Zach (guitar), Tracey (drums), and Aidan (vox), and it’s been full speed ahead. What inspired the music video to "Cavities"? Were there any challenges faced during the creation? We tried to come up with the simplest idea possible. We didn’t really have any sort of budget or anything like that, so we came up with a concept we could shoot in an apartment. Then the wonderfully talented filmmaker Natalie Vinciguerra lit us and shot it beautifully. The biggest challenge was finding that fine line between funny and visually interesting, and just plain gross. It must be exciting for the new EP to finally be coming out! We can’t wait to hear it! Once the music is out, are there any planned goals for Strange Neighbors? Any new shows to come? It’s incredibly exciting, and we get antsy when we aren’t making or releasing new music. We’ve been playing these songs around New York for a little while now and so many local fans and friends have been begging for particular songs on recording. We’re very excited for them to hear it recorded and produced finally. But also we have neighbors all over the country and internationally which has been wild with the kindest social media responses we’ve been getting. We just did a small bracelet giveaway and were packaging them up to send, and realized every package is in a different state. It’s very cool to know there are people out there who somehow found us, and are really excited to hear what we’re about to put out. What can we expect to see from Strange Neighbors this Spring/Summer? Spring and Summer 2020 have a lot of exciting things planned for us. We are traveling farther than we’ve gone yet as a band, and are playing Belltown Bash Music Festival in Seattle in April. We are so honored to be invited to play alongside so many other incredible artists in such a wonderful city. instagram.com/strangeneighborsmusic #BuzzMusic
