  • Interview: Grim Talks About Their New Single "Blood", and What's Next for 2020

Welcome to BuzzMusic Grim! We loved hearing your natural musical talent your new single “Blood.” Can you tell us about the writing process for this song? Thanks, guys! So I pretty much wrote the music to this one a while back now, spent lots of time working on it myself and then presented it the rest of the band where we all bounce ideas around and pretty much settle on a final product musically. I pretty much critiqued the lyrics until the day we actually recorded the vocals. Ian did a great job producing and at the end of the day we came out with a pretty bangin' song. You assembled Grim frantically in order to play at Alberta’s Christmas Bangover. Can you tell us more about how you got from a jam session on a whim to releasing your own music? For us at the start we were constantly bouncing back and forth between the studio and playing live, we were able to do so only because we were using our Bassists studio at the time to record, so we almost had the freedom to go in there at any time. We kept booking local shows and it took quite a while to finish recording and we didn't leave the area to much considering we had no record to promote. Were all set now though and excited to make our way around the rest of Western Canada! Can you tell us about when you first found your passions for music, and how your music has evolved since then? Our parents were always blasting either Metal or Rock & Roll when we were kids, so Ryan and me starting a band was inevitable. We could both agree on fast, loud rock & roll, so that's just what we played. We've been at it ever since and obviously the more you write, the more you play the more you improve. We're better all the time and we've got some even newer songs that people are really going too like. We know that you like to take classic rock and roll sounds like AC/DC and The Stones adding southern influences like Pantera. Can you elaborate on how these bands (and others) have influenced your music? Musically, taking the slamming southern groove style of bands like Maylene and mixing old school CCR and Skynyrd vibes just made sense and was something I really wanted to do. Definitely wound up with unique songs, if anything. We were happy to have you here on BuzzMusic! Can you tell us about your goals for the future? And what we can expect to hear from you musically? Thanks well it has been great chatting. We're already working on a new record. This one's turning out more polished and stadium sounding. But anyway thanks for your time, peace! instagram.com/grimrocknroll facebook.com/GrimRockNRoll #BuzzMusic

Welcome to BuzzMusic $mt Leno! Some believe that each region and coast has its own distinctive sound of rap. What was the concept behind “Life Ugly” and what generally inspired it? Just to let my followers know how hard life can be when you going through the struggle. • Roxanne Wants You To "Take a Ride"

Ottawa native Roxanne is making her name known in the Canadian music scene as a solo artist. Dabbling in many genres of music has pushed her love of exploring new and different rhythms, allowing her to use a mixture of each in every hit she creates! Her unique sound hits every aspect of ‘different’ and ‘new’, something that is missed and rare in the music industry. With her outstanding voice backed up by a strong bass, complemented by smooth jazz, Roxanne’s new single “Take a Ride” will entice you. Her vocals and captivating lyrics not only speak to you but are filled with good vibes as she puts you directly in line with how she was feeling when she wrote: “Take a Ride”. Created with warm undertones and a splash of electro-pop, this song is just the first of many for Roxanne to release in 2020 and with her talent that projects onto her powerful voice, we can only imagine what she has in store in the future. It’s great to have you at BuzzMusic! Your music truly captivates us. What’s the story behind Roxanne and how did you launch your career in music? I’ve always been drawn to music since as long as I can remember. I believe that its unique power to tell stories and evoke emotions whether listening to music or playing music had a significant impact on me. My involvement in music began by singing songs that played on the family radio which was mostly classic rock. Discovering different genres as an adolescent including pop, R&B, soul, funk, disco, dance, hip hop, electronica, experimental, etc., I realized that I wanted to sing and create music. I studied voice at an art school that focused on classical music and opera. Unfamiliar with classical music and opera, it took time for me to appreciate it, but it eventually grew on me. Finding a love of music and a love for the theatrical performance in the operatic realm, I pursued my studies in vocal performance and education and earned a music degree at the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada. I started my music career as a singer in classical and opera, as well as in a theater, where I had the great honor to perform on many prestigious stages including Ottawa’s National Arts Center and New York’s Carnegie Hall. Keeping my passion for popular music and writing original songs, my fascination of different music genres became stronger as did my need to express myself through my original works. As a result, I crossed over into the world of popular music to join different groups and artists and began focusing on my songwriting. I loved working with different artists, exploring new music, and learning about my creative process as a singer-songwriter. It seemed that creating music and lyrics was an easier and more engaging medium for me to share my stories and my messages with others. Though I started writing music using the piano as my accompanying instrument, I also had an orchestral approach to how I heard music in my mind and had to work on trying to replicate rhythms, melodies, harmonies, and hooks that I created. Luckily the use of technology including music software such as MIDI helped in the process of creating arrangements and production work. Forming “Nile Groove”, my Ottawa-based reggae band, I recorded and produced my first original album “Uncovered” in 2015, followed by the release of “Insatiable” in 2017. While “Nile Groove” became successful locally and abroad, I had an itch to composed dance-electronica material as a solo project as I love the energy and the dance effect of that music genre. In 2019, I released my first debut solo single entitled “Like Suga”, and in 2020, I released my second solo single “Take a Ride” which brought me to know other music communities and fans all over the world. With achievements already checked off, there is still so much I want to do creatively; I feel that I’m just scratching the surface and getting started on launching my music career. Rather than trying to lead the music where I think I want it to go, as a prolific and versatile singer-songwriter, I follow where the music takes me, and commit to the journey. You're a singer-songwriter, performing artist, recording artist and independent music producer. What's it like being a multi-faceted female artist in the Canadian music industry? Have you faced advantages or disadvantages? Although, from my experience, men in the music industry are more numerous than women at all levels; from musicians to engineers to artist representatives and executives, I don’t feel that there are advantages or disadvantages being a female artist but do hope to see more female representation in the music industry. As a multi-faceted artist, being open to explore and learn a variety of things provided me with vast experiences. Versatility granted me a wealth of knowledge and skills both as an artist and as a music business administrator, granting me more flexibility regarding creative possibilities and more flexibility regarding roles I can take within the business of music. In the same token, the workload of being multi-faceted is challenging, and surprisingly, versatility as a selling point, especially when you’re an emerging artist can be harder regarding creating a specific niche and a specific fan base. In the end, as lessons I’ve learned early in the music industry, I believe that knowledge and skills are power. The more you know about the business and the more skills you develop, the abler you are to create a music career that reflects your wants, your needs, and your creative values and identity. We really enjoyed listening to your new single “Take A Ride” and the unique vibe it brings to the industry. What inspired you to write this song? “Take a Ride” is inspired by long-distance love. I wrote it to capture the connection of the heart in the absence of the physical state. Your artistry combines a mixture of many great genres which can be difficult to do! How do you manage to do this and make it sound so flawless and effortless? Thank you for the compliment. I believe that even though music is divided by categories called genres, music is music. As I’ve always loved different music genres, and don’t have a favorite one, fusion comes into play quite naturally when I’m creating original pieces. As a person, I love variety. As an artist, I love to push my creative limits by not putting my art in a box, and so, in order to expand my music vocabulary and skills, I try to be as versatile as I can be. With years of practice, versatility has become my norm. By creating change to my repertoire in which change is often a reflection of what I’m feeling during that time and space in my life, my projects are always interesting to me, and it’s with that renewed passion and energy that I pursue them. Thank you for talking with us Roxanne! What can we expect to see from you throughout 2020? As performing, songwriting, recording, and producing are always at the forefront, fans can expect lots more shows and, new music! I am very excited to announce that I’ll be releasing my debut solo album entitled “Love Rebel” this year, as well as a few music videos of tracks from my “Love Rebel” album throughout 2020. roxanne-music.com instagram.com/roxannesrhythms twitter.com/roxannesrhythms #BuzzMusic

  • Rebecca Connelly Offers Moments of High-Energy and Relaxation in Multi-Faceted Album "California"

Today we bring Rebecca Connelly and her latest album, "California" to the BuzzMusic spotlight. As an intensely determined and passionate Pop artist, Rebecca Connelly aspires to create an inspirational and charming sound that can touch all listeners. Already performing at a multitude of venues, notably House of Blues right here in Los Angeles, as well as a vast array within Scotland, Rebecca has developed her stage presence alongside her musical presence!  We’re anticipating what Rebecca will do next.  Rebecca Connelly gets right into the bustling, high-energy performance with the first track titled "Famous by 30". We are in for an unusual experience with Rebecca Connelly's album.  The second track, "You Are Mine", has a methodically mellow performance. "So Near" has an undeniably smooth and collective passion.  The rhythm in "So Near" is easy to sway along to, and the lyrics provide an enriching experience from a listening standpoint. "So Near" makes it clear that Rebecca Connelly's voice is all sorts of authentic.  She produces a mystic and almost magical-like feel with the music she constructs. Rebecca Connelly's enchanting theme is consistent across the fourth track on the album, "Kiss Me". This particular song begins slowly and delicately to form a memorable ballad. Once we approach the chorus of "Kiss Me", we immediately feel goosebumps with the intricacies of Rebecca's vocal sound. "Kiss Me" is definitively the spotlighted track on Rebecca's album.  It encourages listeners to come face-to-face with a myriad of emotions. Rebecca Connelly's charm continues with "We Are Love", where that bustling and spirited energy mixes with her charismatic vocal abilities. Listeners can feel the physical warmth that emulates from "We Are Love", and the soulful resolve is maintained throughout the track. "California" is the kind of track that can be listened to on multiple occasions, offering a thorough and complex blend of our favorite soulful and slightly country production. "My Love" feels very delicate, yet bold in many ways. The vocal execution is much softer for the majority of the track, but then we surface at points where Rebecca Connelly’s vocals become explosive! The melody is light, but adds a dramatic feel to "My Love". The track itself feels inspirational, and Rebecca Connelly's overall performance is graceful. "Dark to Blue" is a song that offers a more intimate experience with Rebecca Connelly. As she moves through her story, we understand that it is filled with the darker elements involved with jealousy. The lighter elements involve redemption. “Empty House" shakes things up a bit regarding production, and Rebecca brings more of a rustic and enriched performance to this song and performance. We feel the heartbreak "Empty House" expresses, and the hope that it ultimately holds. "Empty House" feels incredibly overwhelming with all of its elements strung together in a perfect listening embrace. "Empty Houses" ends with a soft ballad from Rebecca, and we feel as if we understand her better as an artist. The last track of the album, "One Small Step", is about a melody that we haven't yet heard in Rebecca Connelly's music. With a light organ presence, we feel the dramaticism of the introduction in "One Small Step”. This leads to a lively and vigorous performance from Rebecca. The intended message of "One Small Step" is again, very inspiring and sentimental. This song is the right kind of track to end Rebecca's recently debuted album, tying every element together in a final and grand listening experience. Discover the intricacies of Rebecca Connelly in her latest album, "California", here. Welcome, Rebecca Connelly! Wow! Congratulations on releasing your work, "California"! Taking a look back when you first debuted as an artist, how would you compare the sound of your music back then, versus the way it has been cultivated in "California"? Thanks for having me! Wow, yeah it has been a wee while since I first released any music and yeah, my music has changed with me as I've grown up. I have a bit more to say and a lot more emotion behind the writing than I did when I first debuted. Moving countries and all the experience I have now compared to when I first started has absolutely given me this album material -  "California" has been an emotional album for me. "Calfornia", being your second album release, was filled with charm and allurement, to say the least! Where do you typically extract your inspiration from in order to create an environment that's so incredibly elegant? Thank you for the lovely compliment. I really enjoy the process of creating in the studio and seeing what happens.  When I am in the studio and we are laying the tracks down, that’s when all the exciting elements of the music start to appear. The layers of strings or guitars start to build and create imagery and storytelling. I think that's where most of the inspiration comes from, just being in the studio and focusing on the music 100%. The lyrics and the foundation are already there, it's just a case of building on that as creatively and beautifully as you can. Let's delve deeper into one particular track off of "California". Your song, "Empty House", felt like it had an authentic message to pass on to listeners. What kind of story were you trying to get across with "Empty House", and how did you anticipate listeners would feel once listening to the track? It's probably a bit of a tear-jerker - a deeply emotional song for me that has a few stories behind it. I first started writing the song after speaking to the mother of a good friend of mine who sadly took his own life. It's a song for women who have struggled to start a family or have lost a child or baby. I hope that whoever listens to the song can take some comfort in knowing that they are not alone. You've collaborated with many involved in the music industry in order to create the prominent sounding of yourself today! Out of the many collaborations you've seen yourself do within your music career, what collaboration do you feel has aided in your artistic growth the most? Oh, that's a tough wee question. I think everyone you work within creating music adds something to you and your sound and your development. I can't say one has aided me more than others. They are all different and I have grown in different ways artistically from each.. they have all brought me to where I am now. Thanks, Rebecca Connelly, for chatting with us on the release of "California"! Are you currently planning a tour for this album release, and when can listeners expect to hear more from you? Thanks so much, Buzz Music!!   I have quite a few mini-tours around Scotland and Northern Ireland throughout the year and I will also be performing at HearHer Festival in October.  You can find out more on my website www.rebeccaconnelly.co.uk facebook.com/rebconmusic instagram.com/rebconmusic twitter.com/rebconmusic #BuzzMusic

  • Interview: Four Trips Ahead Talk About Their New Single "December" and What's Next for the Band

Welcome to BuzzMusic Four Trips Ahead. How did this exciting band form? How did you guys mesh together with your individual interests and styles? Brian, Dan, and I have known each other for quite some time as we played in different bands on the NYC scene. When my old band broke up, they invited me to get together to see what would happen as they had wanted to work with a different singer. Without sounding cliché, there was immediate chemistry as we liked much of the same music and shared many of the same influences. We also began writing new music almost immediately, which is always a great sign. Ken joined us about five years ago and brought a ferocious new vibe to our rhythm section—a perfect fit. Coming from NYC, we grew up loving hard rock and metal, but we listen to many different genres of music.  As a result, I think those diverse elements naturally creep into our music more often than many of the current hard rock and metal bands that I hear. Let’s talk about this new hit of yours “December”. Can you tell us in-depth about what inspired the lyrics behind this single? “December” finds someone looking back on the year and, eventually, on their life, feeling pain and regret. It also talks about trying to find inspiration and hopes even when the people you look up to are no longer around. Hence the lyric, “Your heroes died a long time ago. And though you’ve tried, you just can’t let it go.” Many people get excited about the end of the year because of the holidays and the promise of a new year. I decided to take a different approach and recognize how painful the end of the year can be for individuals who’ve lost someone they loved. It also can be soul-crushing as it brings into sharp focus deferred and unfulfilled dreams. I’ve definitely been there. What was the most challenging aspect for you when creating “December” and how did it benefit the growth of you as a band? “December” came together quite quickly musically. We wanted to marry different feels that rocked, yet were a little tumultuous. At the same time, it’s important for our songs to still groove and have emotional weight. There are lots of different shades in “December.” It was just important for the vocals and the lyrics to match the intensity of what was being played musically. That’s always the challenge when we write and arrange our music. I feel whenever we finish a song that we deem worthy of releasing, we grow and add more colors to our palette so to speak. “December” possesses a quality of fearlessness that I enjoy in good hard rock music. What’s the most differentiating concept between performing live and recording a single? Do you guys experiment with new arrangements when delivering a single in a live performance setting as opposed to in the studio? Performing live is a totally different beast than recording, although we do capture the basics of all of our tracks live as it keeps a cohesiveness and vibe that can’t truly be replicated. Playing songs to a live audience truly gives us energy that is empowering and invigorating. It emboldens the way we play—it’s also great to see and hear how fans react to new songs as well as their favorites. We tend to stick pretty close to our recordings when performing live—sometimes, we may extend a solo or vocal harmony for emphasis, but for the most part, our arrangements remain intact. Our live sound will always be slightly different than our recordings in that we track several layers of guitars, vocals, and other instruments on our recorded songs so there will always be a rawer, slightly more aggressive feel during live performances. What can we expect to see from Four Trips Ahead throughout 2020? We are super excited as our latest album, “…And The Fire Within,” was just released via Dr. Music Records with global distribution. Three songs are being played by rock radio throughout Europe: “Bring Me Down”, “Step Into My World,” and “December.” Moreover, we’ve been getting some positive press ahead of the album and since its release at the end of February. We hope to get over to Europe to do some touring this summer. We have some shows lined up in the spring in NYC where we will be playing songs from “ATFW” and debuting new tracks. In the midst of all of this, we’ve already recorded half of what will be our next album at Spin Studios, while we continue writing and working on new songs—so this year promises to be quite busy and exciting within the FTA camp. • True Pax Tells a Story in His New Single, “Lost Connections” Featuring Jayda Nikole

With inspirations like J.Cole, G Herbo, Lil Wayne, and more, we couldn’t help but expect “Lost Connections”, by True Pax, to really move us. True Pax is an authentic artist who creates stories through lyricism. His single, “Lost Connections” has relaxed lo-fi elements in the production. They are fused with a subdued atmosphere that is reminiscent of a calming J.Cole type beat. The delivery in “Lost Connections” is genuine, with a realistic story approach in the lyrics. We love the vocal arrangement in the hook because of the neo-soul aesthetic. True Pax expresses substance and empathy through his lyrics; he is true to his emotional convictions. “Lost Connections” is a well-rounded vibe that can fit into the plethora of poetic rappers.
