- Gigi Rich Gives Elegance and Flair to New Single "Aura"
February 23 | BuzzMusic Los Angeles based artist Gigi Rich is here to deliver some irresistible pop sounds. As a singer/songwriter, Gigi Rich uses all of her own vulnerable and personal life experiences in order to gain inspiration for the material she writes. Her style is further shaped by her own musical influences, such as Queen, Lady Gaga, and Fleetwood Mac. Collectively, Gigi Rich manifests her sound with her own authentic ideas and visions, making the overall product even more compelling than before! Gigi Rich gives a certain kind of richness and luxuriance to her sound (the irony), and it makes us fall that much more in love with her artistically. She's always giving a performance with anything she puts her work into, and her latest single "Aura" isn't any different. Gigi Rich is powerful and dynamic right from the start of her track "Aura". She truly gives off a performance within this track, but ultimately, we found ourselves on a vivid mental journey with her throughout the track. There's the right kind of dramaticism added to "Aura", which Gigi Rich manipulates to serve her vocals in the best way possible. It isn't difficult for Gigi Rich to use her sultry and compelling vocalism to capture the attention of any listener, which most likely stems from the vocal range she displays quite effortlessly. The entirety of "Aura" held that mystic atmosphere, which we found to be intrinsic to the production of the song. Gigi Rich is honestly an explosive artist, and we know her potential is too large for her growth to stop here. We're truly excited to see what she'll release next, and how she'll continue to rise as an artist. Check out Gigi Rich in "Aura" here. Hello, Gigi Rich! Welcome back! Congrats on releasing "Aura." What was it like to write and record this particular track, compared to the other songs that we've heard from you? Hey! Thank you so much! So I was in a totally different headspace when I wrote Aura. I decided to write whatever felt natural to me, and not worry about genre. It’s interesting because the demo of this song sounds completely different than the end result. I actually ended up reworking the verses a few times. The bones were there for sure, but it was originally way more rock-oriented. I’m so happy with the final production. I love synth bass so, so much that I told the producer I’d be happy with the production only if my speakers were broken after listening. You're always one to bring a certain sense of allurement to your music. Is it intended to create such an environment for your listeners, or does this quality come off naturally from you? I really don’t try to sound alluring! Ha Ha I mean, when I’m recording I always think about why I wrote the song and who I wrote it about. So I would say it happens naturally. Going deeper into "Aura", and what the actuality of the content is, how would you describe the overall statement that the song is attempting to release onto its listeners? To put it simply, Aura is about a connection that has nothing to do with the physical. It’s all about genuine chemistry and that feeling you’re instantly in tune with when you meet someone special. You just gravitate towards their energy. I took that concept and ran with it. It’s really up for your own interpretation though :) Making the move from your hometown of New Jersey, all the way to Los Angeles, how did it feel switching music scenes? Do you feel that the move to LA propelled you artistically, and subsequently shaped the way you created your music? I was really involved in the NY scene before I made the move. For me, I just needed change. I think moving definitely made me even more goal-oriented than before, and I was already pretty obsessed. Now the difference is, I’m away from my friends and family and I want to make this time count. It helped me artistically in the sense that I had to learn how to let go and live a little bit, and then I found myself as an artist through that. NY always has my heart though. That’s home for me. Thank you for chatting with us Gigi, it's always a pleasure. Do you have any news or updates you'd like to share, we can't wait to hear what's next from you. Thank you so much for having me! I’ll be performing around LA and releasing some more music this year. Hoping to tour a little later in the year! You can stay up to date through my socials! @iamgigirich. #BuzzMusic
- Get Ready To Be Mesmerized By The Mayblues in Their Recent Release “Modern Nocturne"
February 23 | BuzzMusic Coming from right here in sunny Los Angeles, The Mayblues are a trio that creates a soulful experience for their audience. They are known for their catchy melodies and lyrics and have a “Nirvana-Esque” aesthetic. The Mayblues write songs that tell their audience the story of the blues through the experiences of a hopeless romantic. Their first single “In Bed All Day” is a slow-fi track that sets their tone as a band to be “slumbering melancholy.” Since then, they have created many singles that are being considered to play in the popular TV show “Shameless.” These songs are set to be released in early 2020, thankfully The Mayblues have released another single called “Modern Nocturne.” The introduction to “Modern Nocturne” is an instrumental segment that gives the song blues vibes. For the entirety of the song, the background music is a combination of a bass guitar melody, a classic drum beat, and skillful vibratos on guitars. Once the vocals kick in, “Modern Nocturne” incorporates a punk rock tone. The yearning is clear in the lead singer’s vocals which demonstrates his emotional life and passion. Lyrically, the passionate vocalist paints a picture of loneliness and heartbreak. The Mayblues have created a track that blends small elements from classic rock, blues, jazz, and punk into an original song. There are changes in pace and tone throughout “Modern Nocturne” which keeps it refreshing for the audience. Listen to "Modern Nocturne" here. Welcome to BuzzMusic The Mayblues! We were up and dancing to your song “Modern Nocturne.” Can you tell us about what inspired you to create that song? A simple answer would be heartbreak from a relationship. However, to elaborate, I wanted to create a concept album that tells a narrative arc of my love life from 2014 to 2016, which was tumultuous and formative. “Modern Nocturne” is a chapter of that story that details the beginning, middle, and end of one of the more impactful relationships I had during that time. It’s slightly odd to call it a relationship because it was just a Tinder hookup that turned into a summer fling. I suppose it has become common nowadays for people to share many aspects of intimacy while protecting oneself in the guise of ambiguous, label-less affairs, which contrarily can create even more emotional turmoil. It was clear we were using each other to get over our respective past loves, except I ended up catching feelings—a vicious cycle of the pattern I’ve come to know all too well. Thematically speaking, there are roses she got from her friend’s wedding that she gave to me as a joke. I kept them for some reason, and they eventually wilted and died. Years later, I still have them on my nightstand next to my bed as a reminder, a memento, or just an internal symbolism of not being able to let go of past romance. I wanted to write a song about that I suppose. You create such a unique style of music, can you tell us how you found each other and ended up starting a band that combines multiple genres? Well, I had the concept for the kind of album I wanted to make early on. So I wrote all the songs and made home demos before even putting a band together to perform those songs. It was a therapeutic songwriting process through which I was able to reflect and make sense of a formidable period in my life. In terms of the unique style of music, I think it was due to how personal they were to the point of writing for myself only—I guess I wanted to make my own soundtracks to some of my most potent and nostalgic memories. Though it may seem self-absorbed and counterproductive, I wanted to intoxicate myself in my own misery as if it were some tragic melodrama. At least that way, my sadness would make sense like a movie. Consequently, I suppose I organically combined my guitar roots (grunge and blues), music that I associate with certain experiences, and what I listen to nowadays (cool jazz and lo-fi hip hop). As for the band, I had a difficult time finding members—no dice on online posts, Craigslist ads, flyers, and approaching strangers who seemed like musicians. I had a gig coming up in three months, and I was just about to quit it all. Luckily, I came across a documentary about The Pixies and how they found their bassist. Despite her not knowing how to play the bass, they decided to play together because she was into the same kind of music. I learned that you can always teach someone how to play but you can’t make someone want to be a part of a band. So I asked one of my closest friends from college who previously expressed how much he liked my music to join as a bassist. It was awesome how well his Guitar Hero video game skills transferred to learning to play the bass. Similarly, the trio was completed when a friend passed along my demos to her drummer friend who coincidentally was looking for a new band to join. I think such camaraderie goes a long way when playing live. Your style of music has been compared to the hopeless romantics found in albums such as Frank Sinatra’s “In The Wee Small Hours.” Are there any other artists that have influenced your style of music? There are too many to list, but some of the more recognizable ones that come to mind include: Chet Baker, Jack White, Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys, Shiloh Dynasty, Elliot Smith, and most importantly lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to. We loved having you here on BuzzMusic! Besides the list of singles that are being considered to appear in “Shameless,” can you tell us what we can expect from you as a band in the future? There are more singles ready for release in the coming months. I probably will make music videos to accompany those singles as well since that’s par for the course. To be honest, these singles have been mastered and ready for release for a while now. It has been a challenge to overcome the fear of putting my music out there—an anxious concoction of self-doubt, perfectionism, and over-thinking that plagued me to take a step forward. To my surprise, the positive reception has given me a lot of confidence. Strangers messaging me how much they relate to my music has dispelled my apprehension and encouraged me to open myself up to the world a little more (but of course, not too much). I suppose never belonging anywhere and always feeling like an outsider has been engrained in my psyche. Little did I know, there were many others who felt just as alienated that identified with my experiences. Building on that momentum, the next step I’m most excited about is making the demos come to life and finally finishing the concept album I’ve been envisioning. I’ve found the process of making a record in the studio to be both highly stressful and exciting. It’s been enough time away, and I’m itching to go back. I have more stories I want to tell and new musical directions I want to explore. Though it may be enticing to jump into something novel, I think I owe it to myself to complete the project I’ve initially intended. Long story short, expect a debut album soon. instagram.com/themayblues facebook.com/TheMayblues #BuzzMusic
- Ghost Train Walks Us Through "Millenial Bop" and Talks New Album On The Way
February 23 | BuzzMusic Welcome, Ghost Train! Let’s get right into talking about “Millennial Bop”, a track right off of your self-titled EP. As a song that focuses heavily on sly and clever wordplay, was the writing process more lengthy, or do the verses come quickly to synthesize on the band's end? The writing process for "Millennial Bop" came to us naturally. Ryan Griffis had come up with the song title prior to writing the lyrics. He wanted the song to represent the culture and social environment surrounding the college/millennial lifestyle. Griffis wrote all three of his sections for Eric Moss to build off of when exploding into the verses. I remember recording a demo track on the drums one evening, as Eric and I just listened to the trackback and forth on a loop. Eric was so ecstatic about the beat, that he literally hit record and started freestyle rapping over the drumbeat, Griffis recalls. Eric's rhymes were so great that we had to go back and listen to everything. We wrote it all down and we decided to keep roughly 100% of those lyrics and what you hear on the record is pretty much a straight-up freestyle rap by Eric Moss. We definitely appreciate the music Ghost Train has to offer—there’s a certain style of sound you’re emphasizing, especially with “Millennial Bop”. Are there specific artists you drew this prominent rock sounding from, or was this a purely organic manifestation of sound? We drew a lot of our musical influences for "Millennial Bop" from the Beastie Boys, Sublime, and RHCP. We really wanted to incorporate rap with reggae and rock n roll. With "Millennial Bop" the listener gets a variety of genres that ultimately reach a large audience and demographic. Compared to other tracks the music world has seen from the band, “Millennial Bop” focuses on an intriguing outlook from the millennial perspective. The band takes this perspective though, and executes it as fun and refreshing as possible! Walk us through the prime vision Ghost Train initially had for this track, and then how it actually spanned itself out? The ultimate goal for "Millennial Bop" was to tell a story about who we are, where we come from, the experiences we share and the vision for where we want to go. We feel like the song is something that most people can relate to on a certain level. When you're a young kid fresh out of high school and you go off to college and meet a bunch of new people, your personality sort of changes and you do things and/or experience things that you may not have done in the past, but you begin living for the moment and those times are what make great friends and better memories. We’ve heard rumors that one of your recent releases “For the Love of Money” is stemming into an album! When can listeners expect to see the debut of the band's album? Are tracks staying consistent with the tones in “For the Love of Money”, or can we expect to receive an eclectic mix of stylings in each track off the album? "For the Love of Money" is just the first single off our upcoming album which is currently in the works! We are firm believers in making a diverse record. Not one song should sound like any others on the album. So what you can expect for our upcoming single, "Jailhouse Woman," is a bluesy, guitar-driven rock n roll song that makes you want to get up off your ass, take off your clothes and dance! It’s always a pleasure to find answers to our musically driven questions about the band! Thanks for taking the time, Ghost Train! When can we anticipate the next single release? "Jailhouse Woman" March 13th, 2020 on all music streaming and downloading services. - You’ll Be Rocking “All Night” to Joey Capo’s Latest Single
February 23 | BuzzMusic Joey Capo returns to BuzzMusic to share his latest work, and his new single “All Night”. Originally from Pennsylvania, Joey relocated to Los Angeles in 2018 to expand his career as a musician and producer. He has been writing his own music since he was 16 years old and has grown exponentially as an artist through hard work and dedication. Just four years later, he taught himself how to produce his own music, which gave him more creative freedom. His music has many elements that have drawn listeners and his love for his craft is beautifully expressed in his songs. “All Night” is a powerful blend of R&B and Pop music. The simple beat emphasizes the catchy melody and Capo’s vocals. He sings of love and passion, the kind of love that makes you treasure every moment and hope it doesn’t end. Capo’s lyrical gifts allow listeners to get lost in the music and feel the emotions. “All Night” has a great beat and smooth, flowing vocals with an echo effect, altogether making for a rejuvenating track. This is one you’ll want to listen to with the volume full blast. Listen to "All Night" here. Welcome back to BuzzMusic, Joey Capo! Thank you for sharing “All Night” with us, we love it! Can you describe the moment you began writing and did you know right away that this would be your next single? Thanks again for have me and featuring my new single “All Night”. This record was one of those songs that just came together pretty quickly. I and MAJIN the producer for the song were just in the studio going through some ideas we had at the time. Yet, nothing was really clicking at first. Then he started playing a really simple chord progression which really sparked that creative process. With me and production less is more. I like to really work with a clean slate when it comes to the records I want to create. So it started as those chords and some percussion. Again, I just really felt the vibe of the record so once I started writing the lyrics and melody just fell into place. Which listening to the record the chores was inspired by Lionel Richie’s hit song “All Night Long”. But yes, I knew right away that I wanted to start 2020 off with this song. It's just one of those songs that people can vibe to. As well as this being the first song I released with MAJIN, listeners can get an idea for even more great music to come from us together. Who are two artists that you take inspiration from lyrically or musically? If you had to choose, which one would you want to perform live with? Two artists that have been bringing a lot of inspiration lately for the music I been creating would have to be The Weeknd and Justin Bieber. As for The Weeknd, I was always drawn to the dark R&B type of music. Just that vibe alone is the type of space I create my own music in. I feel like having that type of mood in the music I make, the listener can get lost in the lyrics and connect more with the story I am singing about. But with Justin Bieber, I feel that I connect with his actual life story more. Which when he released his new album “Changes” it really resonated with me. Seeing how he deals with depression and his insecurities, while also how he recently got married and how that impacted his life in such a positive way. I right away feel for him on all those levels. I have struggled with depression and insecurities throughout my life and music was definitely one of those outlets I was able to express that and be more transparent towards the listener. Yet, I am also happily married with an amazing woman, who is undoubtedly the foundation in my life and who helps me keep that perfect balance with all the obstacles I face day by day. But if I could perform live with either of them, it would be a blessing. Yet, I would probably lean more towards Justin, just because I already feel like we have a similar vibe and story to the music we create. Can you dive deep into the meaning behind "All Night"? The “All Night” record is more so one of those fun records, highlighting a night out, and just living in the moment. Did your writing process change at all when you began producing your own records? Which aspect of music-making do you prefer the most? Starting to be more in the process with production, definitely changed the writing process a lot more in a good way. Like I said before I connect more with beats that have less going on because it allows me to control the direction of the records melody. So being able to build the production around that melody I sing and add those little nuances to really make the record pop, even more, does help the process go smoother. I really love writing and production equally, to be honest. Because you can’t paint the picture you want to create without having a canvas to it paint on. Thank you for talking with us Joey, what do you have coming up? We can't wait to hear what's next from you! I definitely have a lot of new music coming this year. As well as an EP I have released in May with a producer I started working closely with. The producer LUPO is from LA and has been working on music in a short time. Yet, we both connected well as if we were one artist. Lupo and I started creating music which really became the exact sound I have been wanting to create. so we came up with the idea of making this EP to bring that sound to life. I'm not going to talk to deeply about it just yet, so keep an eye out for that whole project coming this May. Thanks again BuzzMusic for the love and support, look forward to working on the next release with you all. Keep striving. instagram.com/joeycapo_ twitter.com/JoeyCapo_ facebook.com/JoeyCapoMusic #BuzzMusic
- Noumenah’s New Release "Liquescent" Is Anything but Typical
February 21 | BuzzMusic Noumenah is the brainchild of Andrew John Napier. His new single "Liquescent" is like nothing we have heard before. Noumenah follows the standardized rules of music and then breaks those rules. During his musical training, he immersed himself in electronic music, studying it from various perspectives. More recently, he has explored melodies from Western classical and jazz. He borrows particular qualities from each genre and then combines them into something unusual. With echoing beats that shift the song toward a peaceful introduction in andante, only to build to a crescendo and flows into a fast-paced chorus. We recognize that the song’s structure takes many cues from classical music. Noumenah, however, uses no stereotypical sounds in the production of this song. Instead of a snap or clap on each fourth beat, he uses a sound resembling something like the unlocking of a bolt; exactly what this sound is, we can’t place, but that makes us even more curious to hear more. The vocals by Babia, are dream-like and ethereal. Unlike the typical voices of jazz, where timbre, vibrato, and rasp take center stage, Babia’s vocals are softened, yet powerful. Her soprano is unlike any singer in traditional Western classical music. Where in Opera, a singer bellows to express their power, Babia’s power is held in her ability to portray emotion. "Liquescent" is not just music; it breaks barriers and molds. It is an art and Noumenah is an innovative artist who will be making waves in the music industry all year. - Prepare For a Dynamic Experience With ellie d. in "Better"
February 21 | BuzzMusic Singer/songwriter ellie d. is delivering her most recent electro/pop single right here on BuzzMusic. As a Southern California native, ellie d. is inspired by the life around her, subsequently deriving her sound from her own personal experiences. Music has always been a staple within ellie d.'s life, and she's taken the time to really channel her inner passion for music in order to create, record, and release the singles we hear from her today. Having influences ranging from Fleetwood Mac to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, ellie d. is on track to make her own space within the music industry for her eccentrically soft sound. "Better" has been recently released by ellie d. The song presents intricate thoughts involving love, and the emotional hardships that accompany these events. Artistically, ellie d. offers a light and airy vocal performance that suggests a sense of innocence to "Better". Being intricately woven together, the vocal tendencies of ellie d. mesh well with the production, and overall rhythm presented in "Better". The song offers a variety of twists. One moment we're exposed to an atmospheric and delicate melody, and the next we're offered a more intensified, electronic sound. We're intrigued to see where ellie d. takes her sound next with her future music. Listen to "Better" here. Hey, ellie d.! Welcome back to BuzzMusic! As a singer/songwriter who's debuting music, how do you feel now that your own authentic pieces of work are released for any and all listeners? Hi Buzz Music! Putting my own work out into the world is definitely scary and makes me feel vulnerable, but it is also incredibly exciting! I hope that people can relate to the music and become inspired to share their own stories. What were your primary intentions with "Better"? As an artist who channels her own personal life experiences in order to create their sound, do you feel "Better" extracted the majority of its inspiration from these experiences? Yes! “Better” was inspired by the real experiences I have had. I think many people can relate to having those tempting thoughts late at night, especially when you are out. It’s good to be self-aware and know that you still may have feelings, but it probably is not the best idea to act on them. Sometimes you may really want to text that person or go and see them even when you know it is bad news. I wrote “Better” because it certainly is something I am still working on, but I am getting better at it...haha. We've heard that you grew up around a heavy rock influence. Do you feel that as a subject of constant rock influence in your early years, your music now is subsequently shaped? I do love rock music! I love how versatile it is. Sometimes I listen to it driving with the windows down or I jam out and dance to it. Other times, it’s nighttime music I listen to in my room to wind down. I do believe it has shaped the way I write music because I want my music to have a range. I want people to be able to dance and have fun or listen to it during quieter moments in their day. When you take a moment to truly stop and really think about what your primary intent is within the industry, what is it you hope to create with your sound? I want to share my inner thoughts and stories from my life, while hopefully creating relatable music for people. Thank you for talking with us ellie d. Do you have any announcements you'd like to share? We can't wait to hear what's coming next from you! Of course! Thank you for having me! There is a bunch of new music in the works, I’ll just say that. instagram.com/elliedubin soundcloud.com/ellie-dubin facebook.com/ellied.music #BuzzMusic

- Hannah Gross Brings Gifts of Irresistible Allure and Self-Deprecation in Her New Single "Birthday"
February 21 | BuzzMusic In her new single, "Birthday", Hannah Gross is so good at being bad, that we can’t get enough. Pairing brazen lyrics with an uptempo electro-pop beat, Hannah creates an edgy tune; one that we can’t help but love. "Birthday," tells a story from the point of view of a selfish, sexy, and volatile woman in a relationship with a good guy. Because of manufactured drama, she forgets his birthday and brainstorms a way to make it up to him. In the midst of it all, we are left to wonder, why does he stay with her? But as the chorus answers the question. Hannah sings, ‘I’ll let you lick the frosting off of my cake’. I know many of us can relate to this scenario, or maybe you’ve been in that guy’s shoes. Either way, this song is an example of great songwriting on Hannah’s part. It sets aside the voice of the protagonist. Instead, the song lets the antagonist acknowledge their selfish and self-deprecating behavior. I know folks that can’t even do that in real life, nevermind in a structured song laid within a dynamic pop beat. Hannah is pushing boundaries with her song-writing and has become canonized within the Dark-Pop genre, pulling inspiration from some of her musical influences, such as Lykke Li, Miley Cyrus, and Banks. Originally a Detroit native, Hannah now resides in Los Angeles, pursuing her music and writing ingeniously bold lyrics for the deliciously bad. Listen to "Birthday" here. Hey Hannah, welcome to Buzz Music and thank you for being here! Birthday is an incredible song for a few reasons; 1. It’s infectious beat and 2. It’s brazen lyrics! What was going through your mind when you wrote this song? Hey, thanks for having me back! "Birthday" is a song I wrote during a time when good love presented itself right to my face and I didn’t recognize it. I was still bitter and angry and kind of wallowing over a past relationship that I wasn’t able to see a great one right in front of me--so much so that I forgot this great new guy's birthday on December 4th. And then I had the audacity to text him ON his birthday about something entirely irrelevant. I realized I must have mentally blocked it out because I was thinking about my ex’s birthday, which happens to be on December 5th. Looks like I have a pattern. Oops. You pride yourself on writing bold lyrics, Birthday does not disappoint in that regard. Why is it so important that you write music that catches people off guard and tells stories that we don't often hear? I like to show my personality as much as possible through my work. I’m loud, I’m sarcastic, and I have little to no filter...so I obviously let that bleed into my music. Also, I wanted to put a new spin on a relatable topic, which in this case is reckless behavior post breakups, and the best way for me to share my story is by getting right to the point in my lyrics. You have mentioned that you’re influenced by Banks, Lykke Li and Miley Cyrus to name a few. After listening to their music, at what point did you decide to begin making your own music and telling your stories? There is no better feeling than listening to a song for the first time and just instantly being hit with such an emotional connection. The way that these musicians make you feel heard and included in their stories is what really drew me to writing my own music. I love the way that music can make vulnerability so strong, and these musicians really bare it all and inspire me to do the same. You are originally from Detroit but currently reside in Los Angeles. What influenced your decision to move to the City of Dreams? Well, for starters it’s fucking cold in Michigan. I miss my family very much, but I have found a home here in LA and I am always visiting Michigan to get the fix of my loved ones. What can we expect to see from Hannah Gross throughout 2020? More music more music more music. Don’t get sick of me yet—I’m just getting started. instagram.com/itshannahgross facebook.com/itshannahgross twitter.com/itshannahgross #BuzzMusic
- Catching up With Mandy Dickson on New Album and More
February 21 | BuzzMusic Hey Mandy! We're excited to chat with you today. You have a new album dropping soon. Congrats! We would love the inside scoop on what we can expect It's an album of covers songs by some of my favorite artists, like the Beatles, Queen, Elton John, and more. The fun thing is that my versions of these songs are, for the most part, completely different than the originals. I love all the original tracks, but I wanted to reinvent them from a female perspective. For me, all these songs became about things I’ve been through as a woman. I think a good song is like a diamond: you turn it a little bit and a new light shines. If you had to pick one song on the album as a stand out favorite - which one is it? So hard to choose! I would pick God Only Knows. It’s a really unique arrangement that my husband and I created. Our goal was to bring new life to this song while also paying homage to The Beach Boys version. We wanted to give our audience chills! A really close second would be Here Comes the Sun. Making an album is a big undertaking! Now that you are close to releasing it, is there a song you wish you had included but you didn't? It’s always hard to choose because if I had my way, every album would have 20 songs on it! But it’s just not feasible. I wish I had included “Killer Queen” on the album. I have another Queen song on it, and I plan to do a cover of Killer Queen for my Instagram channel so that my fans get to hear my version of it. What would you say has been your biggest challenge in the music industry so far? It can be quite a rollercoaster! One minute you’re on the most exciting tour of your life, the next minute you’re home with no projects and have to start from scratch. This industry can be extreme. When you’re on the road you miss home and sometimes crave solitude and space. But when you’re home, you might miss the excitement of being on the road. Eventually, I’ve to terms with the fact that being an artist has seasons to it, and it’s all part of the journey. But I’d be lying if I said that it was easy! Tell us who was your first concert? Listen to “Under Water” by Ari Tahan here. Welcome back to BuzzMusic Ari Tahan! In what ways has your experience with musical schooling impacted and benefitted your music? Hey! It's good to speak to you guys again! The Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) based in Guildford, helped me develop my skills not only as a singer-songwriter, but also taught me about the music business too. The ACM offered me amazing opportunities such as radio play, gigs, and auditions which opened doors for me at the beginning of my career and really helped me to develop my sound as an artist. Collaborating with my fellow classmates was also a huge benefit for my development because sharing my ideas and developing with other people really took my songwriting to another level. It was the perfect place to feel inspired, motivated and connect with like-minded people, and making long-lasting friendships. “Under Water” was a beautiful song that moved us with its production. With really detailed lyrics, can you tell us your motive with this song and what inspired you to write this? Aww, thank you very much. 'Under Water" was written from my mother's perspective about the breakdown of my parent's relationship. I was 15 when I started writing this song, my parents were arguing again downstairs and a cactus on my windowsill caught my eye, which is where the first line of the song came from. It leads me to think of the sharp spines being unpleasant to go near which I thought was the perfect metaphor to reflect my parent's relationship, and the rest of the song stemmed from this idea. What was the most challenging obstacle you had to encounter when creating “Under Water” and in what ways did the challenge create growth for you as an artist? "Under Water" is actually the first song I ever wrote. There weren't any major obstacles when creating it as I had a pretty strong vision for how I wanted the song to be. However, as I was fairly young I felt quite limited with being able to develop the song to its full potential, which played a part in why the song has only just been released. I knew it was important not to rush and give myself time to grow, and now that I am confident with my artistry, and being able to work with a strong team that I didn't have to begin with, I was finally able to make my vision a reality. My first experience in the studio was one of the main factors toward my growth as an artist because I learned a lot about production and I am forever grateful for the guidance from Judie Tzuke (Singer-Songwriter) and David Goodes (Producer). How would you describe the arrangements in “Under Water”? We noticed smooth transitions in the instrumentation and vocal melody. Thank you! I wanted to keep the instrumentation authentic and simple in order to create a level of realness. Vocal harmonies are something that I am particularly fond of, hence why they are featured prominently in this song. I wanted to give focus on this element in order to create the atmospheric and enchanting feel that runs throughout. Another aspect of the song I enjoyed was the incorporation of musical layers to create the perfect ambiance that compliments the message and general vibe of the song. Thank you for chatting with us Ari Tahan, tell us, what do you have coming up and do you have any new music in the works? Thank YOU for being too kind, Buzz Music! I will be dropping an EP called ' Closure' soon which will mark the closing off of this particular period in my life, my writing, and my music style. I have been working with new writers and producers and will be bringing you a new sound of music that is focused more on my present and future experiences! Until then, I am performing on the 21st of May at the Star Inn, Guildford. aritahan.com facebook.com/aritahanmusic instagram.com/aritahanmusic twitter.com #BuzzMusic
