- NyuKyung Speaks About the Success With His New First Single of 2020, "Desire"
Welcome to BuzzMusic! Talk to us a little about your stage name! What’s the story behind “NyuKyung”? When I was a kid I actually went by YoungJP and when I decided to get back into the music scene full time I wanted to rebrand and change my name. NyuKyung is actually my Korean name and I thought it would be cool to embrace my culture and go with it. However, people had a lot of trouble saying the name so I decided to change the pronunciation to (New King) to make it easier for people. You have some huge accomplishments, congrats! Tell us about winning the first-ever Jarren Benton's Bully Freestyle contest with your single "Desire". What was that like? It was definitely a surreal experience! I was playing video games with my friend when I checked my phone and found I had about 100+ notifications. People were messaging me congratulations and blowing up my phone and I didn't know what was going on. I won a lot of contests in 2019 but this was definitely a special one for me as I have been a fan of Jarren Benton for a long time. We really enjoyed your single “Desire”. How would you describe your creative process behind this record? I was actually in my dorm room writing it and I recorded it on the spot but my producer didn't like the rap version of the song. He was mixing the song and called me at 3 am to tell me that we should re-record the song but have me sing it instead. He came over the next day and we recorded, mixed, shot and edited the video in less than 24 hours. What inspired you to write this single? Do you draw any musical inspiration from any other artists? The inspiration came from the emotions I felt at the time. I love competition so a mix between how I was feeling and the drive to win inspire the track. I listen to many genres of music and a lot of my inspiration actually comes from outside of Hip Hop. However, some rappers I have been listening to recently are J,I.D., Lil Tjay, and Joyner Lucas. What are you looking forward to the most out of this year in 2020? What can we expect to see from you? Consistent releases, more competition wins, features, and a potential Netflix appearance! Also be on the lookout for my record label, Foreign Familia as I plan to do a lot with them and establish it as a powerhouse in Canada with the rest of my team! - MAR Advocates for Unconditional Love in “Together”
MAR is a Peruvian-born singer, composer, and producer who officially began his music career in Miami when he released his first song “En Silencio,” which won Song of the Year in 2007. He first found his passion for music at a young age when he played flute, guitar and sang on stage in Lima. Since then he has been performing internationally and inspiring others with his contagious energy. His new song “Together” fuses indie, pop, and folk elements into a bubbly combination. “Together” opens with an elegant acoustic guitar strumming in the background as MAR introduces his silky voice. The song picks up its beat for the chorus; clapping, drums, and tambourine fill the background. The melody of the “Together” is uplifting and motivational – it will make you feel nostalgic and hopeful at the same time. Lyrically, MAR has created an anthem for self-love and personal fulfillment. MAR is a proud gender-fluid, non-binary advocate of the LGBTQI community. In his song “Together” he advocates for unconditional love and alignment with his own true self. Mar uses music as a road to personal happiness and hopes that his fans can be inspired through his music. Mar once stated “no matter how different you may be, things can be achieved,” and in his song “Together” he passes this valuable advice to his audience. Listen to "Together" here. Welcome to BuzzMusic! What’s the story behind “MAR”? Mar is a short version of my first name. You know, in Spanish most of our names are very gender biased and sometimes religious based; and it came to a point for me that I no longer wanted to be defined by any of the cultural stereotypes. Mar is an arrival point from shedding the weight of what had been imposed to me - gender and religion- it’s like being reborn. I have chosen a very neutral name and an identity that is as vast and diverse as the ocean, it’s not a coincidence it means sea in Spanish. You have some huge accomplishments, including performing at some world-renowned music venues. Which venue has been your favorite to perform at? I mean, it probably is the next one! haha Though, I always remember two of them and carry them close to my heart. One was at Hollywood Universal Citywalk main stage, my first show in LA ever! The other one was at Villa Maria del Triunfo, a very poor district in Lima, Peru, where I was invited to sing in a coliseum on literally dirt ground. The power went out in the middle of the show, but the crowd waited for a whole hour and a half to get it restored so they could hear my concert. We really enjoyed your single “Together”. What inspired you to write this song? I wrote together in one take with my guitar, literally didn’t have many edits, it just downloaded itself! I was inspired by the idea of a platonic best partner who would be there unconditionally to lift me up and come to the rescue every single time. At the time I didn’t realize I was kind of stating the deepest and truest connection with myself and finding that best pal in me. How would you describe your creative process behind "I am I"? Do you draw any musical inspiration from any other artists? A big part of the creative process for “I am I,” has been allowing myself to be raw, honest, and vulnerable while going through the journey of defining and understanding my identity as non-binary. Letting that set the tone and having the need to respond to the question everybody has in their head: “who am I,” grant me to write from a place where I have found “I am I,” saying exactly what I needed to say, the way I wanted to say it. I think, musically each song has found its own way to come to live. In most of my creative process I just go with the feeling, chord, or melody I get at the beginning when I first start writing, and hang out with it without judging or making edits, just riding the wave until it arrives to shore. Musically, I honestly get inspired from many different bands and artists. I really love hearing new artists on IG/social media or in a coffee shop around town, and I also have who I call my “mentors,” the ones that have really shaped the way I create melodies and continue to inspire me; Latin artists like Miguel Bose and Chavela Vargas, and Anglo singer/songwriters like Johny Cash, Brandi Carlile, Ingrid Michaelson, and Sia. What can we expect to see from MAR throughout 2020? Wow, this year has started with lots of great energy already! I am so moved by the way Together has been received, liked, and streamed!! I am super excited and will continue advocating a lot more with this single - and upcoming EP- in hopes to inspire folks to be who they are, and open new spaces to maybe have a window where we can see we all aspire towards the same thing, and that it’s possible to come together with oneself and with others. I hope this album will add one more thread to the rich tapestry of life that we call awareness. facebook.com/marmusicoficial instagram.com/marmusicofficial #BuzzMusic
- Los Angeles Rockers, Rising Elijah Release Their Heavy and High Energy Hit “Shoot ‘Em Down”
Hard Rock band from LA, Rising Elijah, definitely deserves a listen. Formed only last year, Pete “Raz” Razo, Chris Blackaver and Chase Enriquez already have a debut album set to be out winter of 2020 and we can’t wait. Until then, their lead single “Shoot ‘Em Down” is out and it does not disappoint. Heavy guitar riffs backed with a complimentary, and equally engaging, rhythm section, gives their music a mix of vintage and modern feel. Right off the bat, a powerful start to the song in the guitar and the vocals immediately grabs your attention. “Shoot ‘Em Down” keeps up high energy throughout the song but changes pace in the bridge. The change of rhythm in the drums introduces a new groove before seamlessly transitioning back to the original rhythm to lead into a guitar solo. The execution of the solo is precise, clear, and the wailing adds a very classic element to it all. If you’re feeling down and need to listen to a song that will build you back up and give you strength, this is it! “Shoot ‘Em Down” spreads the message of staying authentic and continuing to believe in yourself and that’s something we all need to hear every once and a while. No more letting other people’s opinions or expectations hold you back! Rising Elijah has already played numerous gigs and venus including Universal Bar & Grill, the Garage Bar, and the Viper Room. We hope the album continues to bring success to this band. Listen to “Shoot ‘Em Down” here. Welcome to BuzzMusic! You guys only officially formed last year, so how did you all meet and when did you know that music is what you wanted to do? Well, we've been musicians for a while now so we've been all in. We met online, jammed out a few times and here we are. You describe your music to be a “vintage attack with a modern feel”, who are some of your influences? Is there anyone you’d like to work with? So, individually we have a wide range of influences from Judas Priest to Guns n' Roses to John Mayer; as a team, we like to keep it hard rockin' & groovin. Rick Ruben would be cool to work with. What is the writing process like? Do each of you write your own parts and then come together or does it happen more organically? Well each of us writing our parts is pretty organic yeah? heh. So, Raz, our guitar player usually sends out his idea/riff to everyone and then we go from there. You’ve played some incredible venues already, is there one you haven’t played yet that would be a dream? Any packed house is a good house ya know? But classic venues with history are pretty cool. Hollywood Bowl, the Wiltern, the Greek. That kind of shit. Festivals would be money too. What can we expect from the album you’re about to release, and for the rest of 2020? We're gonna be featured on Frosty, Heidi and Frank on KLOS here coming up. A lot of gig'n, some touring, more videos & a hard-rockin' good time. No backing tracks, no autotune, no bull shit. That's us, Rising Elijah. instagram.com/risingelijahofficial #BuzzMusic
- Jon Worthy & the Bends Rekindle Classic Rock Flames with “Shake Shake”
January 28 -- Jon Worthy & the Bends just released a chill, classic rock single with electronic undertones called “Shake Shake.” The band was discovered at FM Bar in Jersey City, New Jersey where they performed for consecutive nights. Corey Zack had approached Jon Worthy & the Bends after one of their sets and invited them to record a song at his studio – a tradition he had when he enjoyed out of town bands. The band ended up recording “Shake Shake,” which was written 2 weeks prior, with mixing help from Corey. Jon Worthy & the Bends are also set to release a music video for the song in the spring and if it's as good and juicy as the song itself, then we're all in for a real treat. "Shake Shake" is a fusion of classic-rock with electronic house dance elements. “Shake Shake” has a typical rock-and-roll style backtrack of a repetitive drum beat and electronic melody. The vocals are raspy with a nonchalant tone and are maintained within a comfortable range. Lyrically, Jon Worthy & the Bends address the unpredictability of life. The band continues to paint a picture of enjoying their lives through the uncertainty. The story of how “Shake Shake” came to be released is a perfect example of Jon Worthy & the Bends living on a whim and embracing every new opportunity. With their new release, Jon Worthy & the Bends promote a carefree attitude towards the unpredictability of life. - Batshit Arrives on the Scene With Grungy, Methodical "Wait"
What is it about Batshit that catches your attention? It could very well be their vibrant and laidback energy, or even possibly their chilled stamina presented throughout their tracks. Regardless, Batshit can be easily described as an alt/rock band, here to please the people in any way, shape or form with their grungy but methodical sound. As Batshit debuts, their recent track "Wait", a whole other aspect to their music gets brought into the light. It's with this single that we ultimately fell into deep resonance with, as Batshit aims to give a purely authentic listening experience. They're the type of band you know will put on a good show, and with the release of "Wait" comes the confirmation that they're able to create buzzing energy within their music that can undoubtedly be transcended into the crowd. "Wait" brings back some old, but mixes with the new. Remember early 00's alt/rock music? Well, Batshit incorporates a few of our old favorites but distinctly ensures it keeps up with the times of today. Being produced by Jesse Owen Astin, "Wait" becomes to sound very organic. It's observable that the mixing was done in a very deliberate way--crafted to shape the overall vocalist's power and strength. You'll connect with Batshit in "Wait" if you're a listener who relishes over old-school elements tied with contemporary stylings of the alt/rock/pop blending mix. Batshit is not slowing down anytime soon, be on the lookout for their new song "Hey Robot" releasing in February. Listen to Batshit's "Wait" here. Welcome, Batshit! Thanks for taking the time to come on BuzzMusic to answer our questions about your music. Within the past year, how do you think your music has grown? Trace: These songs, whether writing them or demoing them or playing them for Cameron for the first time, are where I would go to escape. Or rather, I thought I was escaping. Looking back, I think writing this album is—more accurately—the only way I knew how to attempt to process anything I was going through at the time. So, in terms of growth, this feels like the most honest I’ve ever been about how I actually feel. I’ve always struggled with that. I’ve always found it incredibly hard to reach out for help or to admit, hey, I feel like complete shit. Or to admit that you feel like you deserve your pain. But no one deserves their pain. I’m learning to believe that. I have a long way to go but I’m better now, moment by moment. Cameron: Over the past year, our music has just grown into its own sound. It grew to be what Batshit is from the original demos to now. Since Trace and I have been in bands in the past, to me, it's almost like all the past experiences and such have just been growing toward what Batshit has become. Trace's lyrics always get better and better, and the music itself is just the most mature music we've made together. Congratulations on releasing "Wait"! We definitely hear those old school elements tied in with Batshit's own twist. Was this intentional to bring back that reminiscent sound that we hear so prominently throughout the track? Trace: I’m not interested in bringing anything back. I like music where it is now. Nostalgia is a sadistic little fuck. It’ll have you thinking that someone you used to be—someone you wouldn’t even recognize if they were staring you in the eyes—is somehow better than the You that’s here now. That’s almost never true. All of that makes me sound like an insufferable dick, so I’ll add that the blending of modern and traditional elements you say you’re hearing in “Wait” isn’t entirely happenstance. I try to pull from all of our influences with equal aplomb when writing, so it’s encouraging to hear that we accomplished that in some small way. Cameron: We put that "old school" twist on it in that we are influenced by all types of music, old and new. So, “Wait” is maybe a little more in the vein of what we grew up playing, just in a more mature way. We just went at it with a different thought than we’ve ever had before. Basically, if you hear an “old school” twist in it, it wasn’t on purpose but we know it's there. The subconscious made it so. How would you describe the very essence of your sound, considering your music holds many different elements which make it appear multi-faceted? Trace: “Multi-faceted” is a kind description. Thank you. For me, it all starts with the words. One seemingly tiny phrase or otherwise innocuous word can build into something really special, maybe even a song worth chasing to its end. I don’t know if I could summarize something like the “essence of [our] sound,” but I will say I hope people don’t necessarily think of any one genre or other unnecessary classification when hearing a Batshit song. I just hope, if nothing else, that anyone who may hear a Batshit song at least admires the dedication to vulnerability. Cameron: Our sound stems from straight up life experience and real emotion. The essence of what we do is always gonna give you a part of, or all of, who Trace and I are as people. We always serve the song, so whatever that calls for is what it gets. Are there any goals you've set for the music of Batshit over 2020? What can listeners expect from Batshit? Trace: We have a few more singles to come, all of which—in my admittedly biased opinion—sound almost nothing like each other. The full 10-song album we recorded in Atlanta last year with our producer and good friend Jesse Owen Astin will follow. We also have several one-off tracks in varying stages of completion, with the immediate aim of getting back into the studio for Album Two as early as this summer. Cameron: Listeners can expect a full-length album. Leading up to that, we will be dropping singles from the album, and then eventually the entire album itself, titled ‘Exactly.’ That’ll be out in the coming months. Beyond that, we have demos on demos on demos. Trace has pretty much already written Album Two. So, expect more, and sooner rather than later. We are here to make people feel and we are only just getting started. We appreciate the time, Batshit! Are there any upcoming live shows you can share with our readers? Trace: The coming months will include announcements of shows in the Birmingham and Atlanta areas, with the broader goal of bringing these songs to any place they are welcome. Cameron: Since we’re a two-piece, we want the live show to be delivered and presented just right. Expect some show announcements very soon. instagram.com/batshitmusic twitter.com/batshitmusic facebook.com/batshitmusic #BuzzMusic
- Courtney Paige Nelson Breaks Onto the Music Scene With “Sorry I’m Not Perfect”
Courtney Paige Nelson has proven that a love for music and artistry can blossom at any point in your life, and is working hard on the release of her first EP. She uses the hardships from her personal life as motivation to push her limits and become the best artist she can be. With no prior musical experience, Courtney Paige Nelson has been experimenting with her artistry and trying to find her sound while working on her first releases. “Sorry I’m Not Perfect” is the first off the new EP by Courtney Paige Nelson, and is a heartfelt yet catchy pop track. The song has an atmospheric feeling to it, and her voice glides nicely along with the beat. Her vocal stylings are smooth and composed, a pleasure to listen to, reminiscent of Dua Lipa. We especially enjoyed her willingness to be vulnerable with her lyrics, but in a way that feels empowering instead of somber. With this song, Courtney shows her ability to take insecurities and doubts and project them into music, which will help her listeners feel more connected with her and her songs. Courtney Paige Nelson has started strong with her first release, and we are much looking forward to the rest of her EP. Listen to “Sorry I’m Not Perfect” here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Courtney Paige Nelson, we are happy to talk to you about your new song "Sorry I'm Not Perfect." From your music to your artwork, everything looks and sounds amazing! Can you tell our readers about the musical world of Courtney Paige Nelson, and how you got your start in music? Ha, well I actually have had a very very unconventional journey into the music realm. I never thought I would be a musician because music wasn’t apart of my life growing up. It actually wasn’t really allowed in my home. I have always loved music, and it has always been apart of me.. just in a secret way. In fact, only 1.5 years ago was the first time I ever sang in front of anyone. So to go from never having anyone hear my voice, to now releasing music for the world to hear.. has been a wild amazing dream. I don’t have a musical background so everything that I have written and everything that comes out of me musically is just this raw part of me I hid for so long. In a world that most of us feel the pressure to be perfect - may that be online or in the real world. Why is this such an important message for you to get across to your listeners? This song was written after a very very hard breakup. The last thing my ex ever said to me was “I’m sorry I found someone more perfect then you” and that right there is where the hook was born. It’s devastating to go through a breakup, even more devastating is someone applying a comparison of you to another person that came in between you both. I wasn’t public about my journey through any of it. Not during the relationship or after. Creating this online persona of being fine when really I was struggling. So this song is my side of the story, my feelings, my message. Tell us Courtney, what was your motivation behind writing "Sorry I'm Not Perfect."? How do you stay in your own lane with your music and ignore the pressure that may be around you? As I addressed previously, it’s about the one thing my ex said to me that caused me the most pain. Breakups are very hard and there’s always more we wanted to say that we feel we never got to say.. so I turned it into something creative that would also help me heal and get my last few words to him off of my chest. In addressing pressure, I don’t think I’ve felt any in particular. Music is the only thing that makes sense to me. I wake up in the morning and I feel excited to check my email, to write some lyrics, to talk to my manager.. which is how I know this is my path. Even the parts that should make me feel pressure, make me want to work harder, faster, and more efficient to get to where I want to be. We noticed a bright build-up towards the ending of "Sorry I'm Not Perfect.", to us that really symbolized confidence and to us, that felt freeing. Can you tell us a bit about the creative process and the different emotions that you wanted to touch throughout the song? Well, thank you! I think I’m the last chorus I wanted to more-so drill my message in. Owning what I was saying without holding back. This song tells a complete story. The first verse is the breakup, the second verse is my thought process and how I was moving through everything, the bridge is my way of calling him out for trying to appear not in the wrong. Specifically, the line “when you drop, to your knees, like the saint that you preach.. do you think of me” and the chorus, of course, is the things I wish I could have said to him. It’s every emotion I felt during that difficult time at the end of 2018 wrapped into a song. Which even though it is so vulnerable to openly talk about, it’s also so powerful. We loved your song "Sorry I'm Not Perfect." congratulations Courtney, we can't wait to hear what's from you! We know 2020 is going to be an amazing year for you, what will be your next music move? I appreciate that! I have 2 more songs all ready for release in the next 2/3 months that I’m so excited to share. Each song represents a chapter that explains what I went through for an entire year that no one knew about. I also have the music video coming out for “Sorry I’m Not Perfect” so keep ya eyes peeled for it! It’s something I’m very proud of because the entire storyline from where we filmed it, to the props we used was all my idea. I’m a proud parent of this video and my new music coming out, so thank you for letting me share this with you. instagram.com/courtneypaigenelson #BuzzMusic

Instead of focusing on getting the club hyped, Cameron Jay drives his focus in his songwriting and value. “Hustle” had strong lyrical substance from not only Cameron Jay but the featured artists on this track. Artists such as Pretty Girl 1st, S da don, and King came through with a great in-depth approach to their verses while showing off great originality to separate their verses from one another. “To be the man, you have to beat the man” was spoke to us with a motivating conviction. This was a sensitive subject to talk about and Cameron Jay courageously and naturally delivered his feelings and thoughts through a clean-executed flow on top of gorgeous instrumentation. All in all, we realized how powerful this album 'December Son' was. Cameron Jay lost both of his parents in 2015 and 2018. This tragedy caused him to take a break from music to cope with the loss of his loved ones. How has the Bronx inspired you? 1st off thank you for having me. Being From the Bronx and it being the birthplace it brings a standard of dedication to your craft. You have Names Like Krs Pun Fat Joe slick Rick and the list go on there was no way for me as an artist that I could cheat myself and fans not writing with integrity to the best of my ability. Your album 'December Son' was tremendous. What was the most challenging aspect of creating this album and how did you overcome the obstacle? Thank you for the hardest part of this Album was trying to stay true to me and not trying to do a lot of what’s going on today. I stayed as current as possible but had my own vibe to it it wasn’t so much dance or club music but a little more grown and centered around lyrics and being able to sit back and just listen. Also the death of my parents and having to find a way to express that was hard. Can you describe to us the songwriting approach towards “Miss You”? The lyricism was very powerful. It took a while for me to write it because of the heartache I had been going through. I lost my mother in 2015 and my father in 2018 so it was like peeling a fresh scab wound over and over again doing it. Just the memorize I had with them kept coming to my mind so to get it off my chest felt amazing and Tru Vocalz came with a great hood and Islima came and killed then vocals and set the record in the right place. How would you describe the production behind “Ya Tu Sabe”? Knowing this was a new sound you were experimenting with, detail to us what elements you wanted to present! With Ya Tu Sabe I wanted to do something different that was going to set me apart from the rest of the independent seen in Ny the vibe of the record just fit and was just undeniable it comes on people are going to dance and it felt amazing to see people who don’t speak Spanish or know what Ran Jay is saying vibe to it the way they do to the song. 'December Son' was a great piece of work that you should be proud of. What’s next for you Cameron Jay? What’s next for me is to establish my Company Net Worth Ent supply more content with video interviews and merchandise. And on the artist level might drop another project or two in 2020 but definitely putting the videos out for December Son and will be performing try to hit the road outside of NY. instagram.com/CameronJayMusik #BuzzMusic
- Grimz Reeapa Is Aiming for the “Good Life”
Bringing back classic hip hop vibes, Grimz Reeapa released his single titled “Good Life”. “Good Life” is a layered song that intrigued us by Grimz Reeapa's intricate artistry. When Grimz Reeapa raps he not only raps with a sense of honesty, but his voice is individualistic and eccentric. Some artists don’t have a stand-out rap voice that is distinguishable, however, Grimz Reeapa has this unique delivery that makes his flow more polished. The lyrics in “Good Life” are not only relatable but raw and real. Grimz Reeapa discussed the theme of grinding for what you want. Sometimes life gets challenging, but you have to keep pushing and striving towards your goal, or in this case, the “Good Life”. The hook in “Good Life” gave a new dimension to the song. - NEW EP RELEASE: RBSN Premiers 'Soul Searching'
Italy/Rome native RBSN is synthesizing some serious sounds, and collectively creating the sound that is exclusive to him. We've been incredibly intrigued by the artistic abilities of RBSN, especially after the release of his 4th EP: "Soul Searching". The EP consists of five tracks that each has its intricate crafting to ensure a dynamic experience for the listener. The first track we come upon is "SBSD", which is incredibly harmonious, and features a lax melody for listeners to get into a serene ambiance. The second track progresses on very well, beginning with a more refined and rustic sound through the use of prominent guitar soundings. "Fryend" is mysterious in all sorts, and makes us feel mystic and dreamy. The delicate vocal soundings embedded within this particular track are striking! They're slow, alluring, and has the most distinct sultry appeal to it. These were the aspects that made "Fryend" our favorite track off of the EP! The third track off of 'Soul Searching' is "Foreover", and this one resonates more with the first track that started this EP off. The melody is incredibly slow and whimsical. Those characteristic guitar soundings are back, and they set the entire mood of the track. "Foreover" advances and builds up to a more aggressive vocal delivery once we hit around halfway through the track. Vocals are insane on this track, and it's what made it easily memorable for us at BuzzMusic. We find ourselves on the next track of the EP, "Sketches". The track has more of an atmospheric effect, compared to the other tracks off of "Soul Searching". We felt at ease with this song, and almost as if we were floating on a cloud (a very, very fluffy cloud). We almost melted into the deep and honest vibrato of the vocal performer. If you've recently heard the most up-to-date soundings of Harry Styles, you'll know the sound is completely refined and crafted so intricately. That reminded us of the present track. As we come to the end of 'Soul Searching', we arrive at track five, "Move". Immediately once playing the track, you're introduced to the most tranquil environment we've heard embedded into a track. We feel at peace, and we're at the peak of our imagination. Once we're integrated into the vocalism, it's a soft experience throughout. We sail through the rhythms and harmonies almost effortlessly, and we again get that feeling of floating on a cloud. RBSN has featured a collection of synths and instrumentals to capture the essence of that delicate and soft sounding atmosphere. "Me in SOUL" was a fitting track to end off the EP, as we felt completely uplifted and at one with ourselves. For here on out, we're dedicated fans to the integrative sounds of RBSN.
