  • Liv Hanna Delivers a Powerful Message in Her Newest Single “Grown”

When an artist feels their music their delivery is much more impactful. Liv Hanna has admitted that her single “Grown” was her personal favorite record to write thus far. This instantly gave us an interest in listening to this song because of it. Liv Hanna has various aspects in “Grown” that we loved but most importantly it was the passion behind the delivery. Liv Hanna had an intricate and complex voice that not many artists have themselves. The quality in her tone and the detailed vocal arrangement had breathed life into “Grown”. Liv Hanna did more than just sing the song. She spoke to the listener through vulnerability but a stylistic approach. “Grown” is about reaching a realization that you don’t need specific negativity in your life even if it becomes comfortable. I believe this message was super needed for the public to hear. It’s highly relatable and can translate well with all ages and generations. Many people become stuck in bad habits and they develop a fixed mindset in which they feel as if these habits are unchangeable. Liv Hanna has profoundly delivered us a hit and Grown could be the song of 2020! You can listen to “Grown” by Liv Hanna here! Welcome to BuzzMusic Liv Hanna! How would you describe your upbringing and background? I am an only child brought up in the suburbs of New York. I’ve been surrounded by music from as far back as I can remember. My dad was constantly having me sing to anyone who would listen! I started voice and piano at age 8 and was in several choirs the most elite of which being the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of NY. I also participated in NYSSMA for several years, which is an annual competitive music festival for middle and high school students. I began songwriting at age 11. Do you mind sharing to us a specific moment in your life when you felt like you had to grow from the situation and remove yourself just like the message in your single “Grown”? The moment I realized I had to remove myself from the situation which sparked “Grown,” was when I felt I no longer had the support, understanding, and acceptance of those I thought I was closest to. I feel at some point, everyone experiences this feeling of distance where relationships may no longer click and are forced because they are scared of change. What was the most challenging aspect for you when creating “Grown” and why? The most challenging aspect of creating “Grown” was actually putting ‘pen to paper’ and realizing I was losing a big part of my life. This is one of my favorite songs I’ve written so far because I think it’s the most relatable. A lot of people are scared of change but once you learn to embrace and move on from whatever toxic thing you had in your life, you realize you are so much better off. This song is about coming to the realization that you don’t need negativity in your life even if it may be comfortable. Once you stop caring what others think of you, you will be so much happier. How would you describe the production of “Grown”? The production of “Grown” was my favorite part. I think this the most exciting time for most artists because you see your idea come to fruition. There is such a difference between you playing ur piano and singing at home and turning that idea into a track and then a single. I love helping develop the backtracks because they are a key component of how the song turns out and contribute to the style and genre of the track. What’s next for you Liv Hannah? I have many exciting projects I’ll be working on in 2020 and hopefully an album will be out by July, but as of now, this is the work I’m proudest of. I hope others will appreciate and relate to this song as well as I do. instagram.com/livvlauren livlhanna.com #BuzzMusic

  • "Something to Hold (This Christmas)" by All the Locals Ends off Our 2019 the Right Way

All The Locals are back, but this time they're back with a familiar and cheerful holiday sound! The end of 2019 sees the release of "Something To Hold (This Christmas)" from the music group, and it introduces a fresh outlook of the bands' sound! "Something To Hold (This Christmas" begins with that soft and magical feel that is absolutely required in any Christmas song, especially a rock Christmas track! There's no need to fret at all though, as All The Locals still maintain their prominent rock sounding, and ensure a heavy incongruous soft atmosphere. "Something To Hold (This Christmas) is scratchy and raspy at the most appropriate times, loud during robust times and soft during the mellow time periods of the track. We get every aspect of a holiday favorite into one track from All The Locals. Remember when All The Locals won Best New Artist at Atlanta's Georgia Entertainment Awards? You'll understand why when you hear their artistic abilities integrated effortlessly within their Christmas release. We've always believed that a Christmas release can be risky by artists and bands--of course when they're executed well, Christmas songs sound cheerful and hopeful. Yet, the gamble is still there. All The Locals took the gamble, and quite frankly, the execution was impressive. "Something To Hold (This Christmas)" is the Christmas song we know rock fans will be wanting (and possibly, needing) during this holiday season. You can access the track on all platforms, and add it to your Spotify Christmas playlist while you still have time! Pop artist Sarah Shoumer is coming out with new music this holiday! She's really spreading that holiday cheer, and we mean that seriously. Her youthful approach to her vocal execution is what makes her voice the perfect one for a new holiday single. As a young woman, Sarah has instilled her artistry in evoking positive and hopeful feelings towards her listeners. Her entire foundation as an artist screams what the holiday season is all about. As a pop artist, Sarah pulls her inspiration from other pop artists alike, such as Alessia Cara and Kelsea Ballerini. She's currently finishing her EP but has released "Secret Santa" as part of her holiday sounds. • Follow Deep Reels You into 2020!

Follow Deep are a 3 piece alternative rock and indie band hailing from the hull. Complete with killer riffs and sexy saxophone, they aim to take over the world’s music scene with their thunderous, chaotic quality and complete madness. Follow Deep is undeniably on their way to the top with trailblazing and explosive releases that are bound to take them into new heights of their career. Follow Deep released various singles including “Give It Away”, “Suffocating”, “Better” and more. Follow Deep is the most intricate band we have seen yet. Their detailed music and attention-grabbing performances reel us into their world of alternative rock. Follow Deep takes you on a unique journey with your music. I personally always preferred Hip-Hop over any genre until I listened to “Alive” by Follow Deep. this song just completely transformed me into the biggest fan of Follow Deep and opened my mind to explore the genre of alternative rock even more. The melodies, the instrumentation, the arrangement, and the emotion conveyed through the lyrics just had me so in awe. I replayed “Alive” over and over and I was just soo intrigued by Follow Deep and their sound. I found myself singing along to the hook. One of my favorite moments in “Alive” was how the chorus was delivered with an electric vocal dynamic in a specific pitch while the adlibs that repeated “I never felt this way before” echoed in a melody slightly different, adding a real catchy tune to the record. Follow Deep is a promising band that’s bound to create a trailblazing career for themselves. Listen to Follow Deep here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Follow Deep! What’s the story behind the formation of your band? We all met at a music academy in our home base "Hull" in East Yorkshire. We auditioned multiple drummers and settled with Jed after departing with our previous drummer; this is when follow deep truly began to pave their way in the music industry. Our sound began to evolve as our line-up decreased - unfortunately both guitarists at this point departed - and we were left as a three-piece. We adapted to this quickly and began the writing process again to become the Follow Deep we are today. What are some pre-performance traditions you guys have that you don’t mind sharing? We insult each other more than we should after one of us does something stupid or just absolutely ridiculous! Inside jokes always seem to surface in front of people we don't know (they probably think we're all crazy!). Talk to us about your music! We loved your single “Alive” here at buzz. What was the meaning and theme behind this record? We have a saying over here called "hanky panky" - it basically means sex - which relates to the music video we released in October that includes monster speed dates that go horribly wrong. How would you describe the approach you took towards your single “Give It Away”? Considering it was the first record you released this year, how did it prepare you for the rest of your releases? “Give It Away” wasn't really a planned single at the time as “Give It Away”, “Suffocating” and “Better” were all recorded in the same week. At that point, we had no idea what we were going to use them for and after some thinking, we decided to release them as singles. After this, we decided we were going to record more tracks to build up material for an album which you can hear now! Talk to us about this album! What can we expect from “Will You Still Love Me…”? Tasty beats, sexy sax, killer guitar solos, and heart-stopping vocals! “Will You Still Love Me…” took time to build. Luke had already written a few tracks which we knew were going on the album, which includes "Lifeline", "Sweet Innocence", "The Same", "Alive" and "Start A War". Coming later on just before we hit the studio, we jammed something which soon became "Hearts In Hands". Jed had also been recording little bits of songs on his phone for a while, so we decided to check through to see what we liked in his mass of recordings. We glued a few together and pretty much created the rest of the album on this basis, making songs such as "Press Rewind" and "Paradise". What are you looking forward to in 2020 Follow Deep? Big things to come in 2020 - we've just signed with Spitfire Management who plan on beating us into shape to help us make it big in upcoming years. Also... • Eclectic Genre-Blending Artist Ekidna Transformed over 2019!

Rock/Metal/Electronic artist Ekidna really has us in for a dark treat with his 2019 releases. It's quite a trip to look over the past year Ekidna had. When we think about his creative ability artistic wise, Ekidna definitely knew how to combine heavy and mysterious synths with his mellow vocalism. The effect that the combination has was incredibly intriguing and enigmatic. One of the tracks Ekidna released was titled "Wolf", and it recently premiered as a music video. When we really pick apart the track and look at all components, we realize that there was strategic manipulation on Ekidna's end, in order to fulfill the requirements of a successful Rock/Metal production. His music thrives on being dark, yet fun. Ekidna's integration of electronic elements is really what sets the track into the category of eclectic. Artistically, Ekidna is transforming the category he refuses to be refined to. It's imaginative, and it's incredibly ingenious. "Venom" is another track of Ekidna's, released this year. We really want to put a spotlight on this track in particular because it's very potent of Ekidna's creative taste. He further transcends this vision into "1231", which features a blending of many different genre characteristics. Ekidna's ability to transform music with that keen integration of varying elements is what we find present almost in every track he releases. It's comforting to know that we can get a consistent sound from Ekidna, one that manages to be unique every time. We're anticipating more otherworldly tracks from Ekidna in 2020, but as of now, we'll keep ourselves savvy with his tracklist of 2019! Check out Ekidna's eccentric sound here. Hey there Ekidna! We're psyched to look over your 2019 from a music standpoint. This year, we've truly seen your music transform in the best ways possible. How do you personally feel you've changed both artistically and personally since the start of 2019? Hey! thanks for having me back. Yeah, this year it's been a good one artistically speaking, I released a bunch of singles that reached many more people than I expected. Now my first album Pilot is out and it sums up my first years in producing music, I called it Pilot because it is just the beginning but in it, you can find all the different elements that I am ready to develop in my next work. The release of "Wolf" music video quite literally just happened! How exciting was it to get that production out by the end of 2019?! Did the overall process of creating and recording go well for the video? Yes! everything was good, we shot the video in Berlin with no actual script or anything. I decided to go there because I love the city and I knew that Tempelhof Park would have been perfect for that song. Wolf means a lot to me, it's very intimate and one of the first songs I wrote when I began this project, so yes, I was very excited putting it out and I'm very glad of the response I'm getting about it. As a genre-blending artist, how do you find which elements to combine together to make the exclusive sounding that is Ekidna? Uh, this is a tricky question, I never thought about it as it's all very natural. My approach to production is very intuitive and unsophisticated, I think it's all very influenced by my musical background and not being obliged to stick to a particular formula. I'm very curious, I like to mess around with sounds and try to give shape to what I have in mind, it's 2020 and it definitely clear that genres and boundaries have no reason to exist anymore. Would you say that your music has been reflective of who you are in your personal life/reflective of your personal experiences? Or, do you keep your music and private life separate? My songs are definitely connected to my personal life, lyrically speaking, I find it inevitable. It's not like a talk always about me or something like that but in almost every song you can find elements that I lived or maybe that people around me did, I think it's a good thing to expose yourself in a song, it's like therapy. How do you feel you've strengthened the connection between yourself and your listeners this year? Well, considering that my first single Apnea dropped something like one year ago I can say I'm super happy with the connection I've been creating recently. A lot of people from all over the world wrote me and gave me feedback on my music and my videos and it's just great, I like to talk with them and know how they react, these things weren't possible when I started making music a few years ago. I come from a small town in Italy and my tracks have been played in 80 Countries, I'm so grateful and I'd love to interact more with all the beautiful people out there. I'm sure that 2020 will bring some great news. Thanks, Ekidna for going over your music life over the past year with us! We're hoping there is more to come in the new year! For now, what are you focusing on artistically? Thank you, guys! Of course, there will be more, Pilot has closed a chapter. I'm writing and producing the new one and next year I'll make you dance, I promise. See you in a few months! instagram.com/ekidnamusic facebook.com/ekidnamusic ekidnamusic.com #BuzzMusic

  • Aliza Li Lays It All out with New Single “Sometimes I Get High”

Have you ever heard trap and soul music mixed together? How about also adding R&B in there? Aliza Li delivers us this sonic goodness with her new single “Sometimes I Get High”.  Starting out with a trap beat, you’re then introduced to a soul synth and repeating R&B style vocals and then your ears are strapped in for what you are experiencing! The fusion of all 3 is very well executed and creates uniqueness for an otherwise over-saturated market. “Sometimes I Get High” definitely cements Aliza Li as a force to be recognized and a true artist, creating something totally refreshing. Speaking to her melodies, she serves up these infectious hooks that don’t leave you and captivate you. Lyrically, this is a very honest song, right from the title of the track. “Sometimes I Get High” isn’t very dynamic, but rather stays linear, which is expected for an R&B driven track and it’s totally acceptable. The delivery of this song is a 10/10 and is incredibly honest. There is nothing holding back this genre-pushing and sonic boundary-breaking artist. Aliza Li showcases true artistry with "Sometimes I Get High” and we strongly suggest this is added to your playlists today. Do yourself and your friends a favor, listen to this and share it around.  Listen to "Sometimes I Get High" here. Thanks for speaking with us today at Buzz Music! "Sometimes I Get High" is an honest delivery. What is the true message of this song for those who don’t know? Sometimes I Get High is about the rare opportunities that you get to experience love in life and those who live for those rare opportunities...the highs of life. The fusion of R&B, TrapSoul, and Neo-Soul is extremely progressive for music! What inspired the combustion of all 3? Really it was about me finding my sound. I'm not an artist that can be confined to one genre. To me, all of the genres have certain aspects in common that allow me to move fluid through them. Who are some artists that have really inspired your sound? I draw inspiration from a lot of artists but some of my top ones are Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and Musiq Soulchild. Who are some artists and producers you’d love to team up with and why? I'd love to team up with Pharrell Williams and Missy Elliott, their styles are so eccentric and they are so passionate about what they do. I know the creativity would be off the charts! Lastly, what do you hope to accomplish with your music as we approach a new year? I hope to keep promoting my music and find some dope inspiration for my next project. facebook.com/h3yalizali instagram.com/h3yalizali #BuzzMusic

  • Izora Returns with Second Single "Midnight"

Izora, is an Alternative Pop-Rock music artist. Born and raised in India, Izora began to develop her growing passion as a singer and songwriter. Through the guidance of her parents, she was introduced to a variety of genres and notes that music has always been a part of her life. Some of her influences include Linken Park, Panic! at the Disco, Billie Eilish, Sasha Sloan, and Eminem. Gaging her future audience while trying to explore her musical style, Izora released her first debut single “Feel Better” in August of this year. We are happy to announce the brand new release “Midnight” from Izora. As you listen, you will notice the particular raspy and textured vocals from Izora, which is quite captivating right from the very beginning of "Midnight". Izora has a youthful lyrical expression and sound. We love Izora's use of harmony, as it adds an extra level of depth and character to her song. This Alternative/Pop rendition has a somewhat similar vibe to the famously known Billie Eilish, in her single “Bury A Friend”. Izora is able to use this eerie and mystical sound but present it in a lighter fashion. Using feedback from her first debut, Izora shows us another side to her vocal range and we love it here at BuzzMusic. Listen to "Midnight" here. Hey Izora, It’s great to have you here with us at BuzzMusic. How did you come up with the stage name Izora and does it have a deeper meaning to your character? Hey! Happy to be here! Well, the main reason behind having a stage name was to have a name everyone around the world could pronounce.. Cause the harder it is to pronounce a name the fewer people talk about it. But it grew on me Izora is a part of me now n I'm very proud who she's become!  What was the feedback you learned from your first single and how did you apply it to “Midnight”? I learned ALOT actually. I understood the power/influence of social media and even if the numbers were low I still had people from all over the world listening to this song I made in my room and with amazing producers! I learned a little about marketing as well since I have to do all of it myself which is fun and I'm still learning What is the message you are trying to portray in "Midnight"? Midnight is a state of mind. It talks about the "dark side" Everyone has inside them.. It's deep inside them and they start loving it more than they should. I talk about that side of mine in third person because sometimes I become a totally different person when I'm sad or anxious and I don't like that person. We love the raspy texture and eerie sounds to “Midnight”. Was this influenced by any particular Billie Eilish song? Haha, thank you soo much! It's not directly inspired by any of her songs but I listen to her a lot and that for sure has influenced me! She is just someone who has shattered all these stereotypes of having the perfect body and she's a mainstream "pop artist" without her songs even being pop and she's very out there, I think that is why we love her soo much. This song is however influenced by her and Sasha Sloan! Thanks for being with us Izora. We are excited to hear what your next steps are as an artist. What does the future hold? I'm releasing an EP early/mid next year hopefully! Very excited about that. Planning a trip to LA and one of my BIGGEST goals is to be on tour at least by early 2021 I hope I'm able to achieve that! Thanks for having me. This was great! instagram.com/izora.music #BuzzMusic

  • Lena Luca Shows That She Is “Superior” with Her Amazing Debut Single

“Superior” is the debut track from Lena Luca and wow, what a way to kick start her career! This power anthem is Electronic Pop based and checks off all of the boxes. Production-wise, everything feels very up to date, which is brought to the table by Justin Mauriello of the successful group “Zebrahead”. The vocal performance showcases a wide range of Lena Luca’s head voice plus her amazing and outstanding falsetto. Lyrically, the song begs the question “what makes you superior?” - which feels like an honest delivery of not taking anything less than what she deserves from someone who needs more than what they have. Lena Luca displays a true sense of artistry and uniqueness throughout the song with a refreshing spin on the Electronic Pop genre, which completely has set her apart - right from the beginning of her career. This song is also the start from her realizing she needed to go solo after stepping down from being part of the group, Elevated and we are happy with her choice to do so! Make sure you tune in today and listen to “Superior” by Lena Luca. Give her a follow on social media to keep up to date as she releases more music and as her story unfolds. Listen to "Superior" here. Hey Lena Luca, welcome to BuzzMusic! We're thrilled to be one of the first to hear your new single "Superior". Can you tell us a bit about what inspired you to write this? Hello, and thank you! I'm super excited to be featured! It's actually a couple of different things that inspired me to write "Superior." The original idea stemmed from my strong feelings against factory farming. However, when I decided to sit down and officially dive into the lyrics, given the recent happenings with immigration camps and attending a protest on July 4th against them, my inspiration came more from attempting to imagine what it might feel like to be in that situation personally. "Superior" truly showcases your powerful vocals and lyrical ability. What's your writing style and process like when you create new music? My writing process and style actually changes from song to song. Usually, I tend to write music and lyrics at the same time. "Superior" marks what might be the deepest I've ever dug into making lyrics the best they could be. I initially wrote the melody and lyrics at the same time, then ended up scratching all of the old lyrics and writing entirely new ones. Toward the end of the process, I had some help from my producer Justin Mauriello and guitarist Mike Kiddoo on polishing them to give some parts the extra lift that they needed.  How has the Austin, TX, music scene contributed to your musical experience and career in the music industry? That's a subject that I find myself discussing with other local musicians often. Since Austin is known as the live music capital of the world, a lot of musicians flock here to get a start into the scene. What I realized was that there is so much more talent than I could've known, and I am always learning something new by being around the creative energy! I think it also pushes me a lot harder to be the best that I can be, and really work on new ways to get myself out there and get my music noticed. Austin also has programs like HAAM, which provides free or affordable healthcare for musicians, and Black Fret, which gives musicians the opportunity to win grants to put towards their projects. I am always extremely thankful to be able to have resources like these help me along on my journey! As 2019 comes to an end, what was a career highlight for you this year? Honestly, releasing this song is a huge part of it! It was part of the reason why i branched off into a solo career as Lena Luca. Deciding to go solo in August opened up lots of creative outlets for me that I had been putting on the back burner, and my dry spell of writing that I was experiencing soon came to an end.  What's next for Lena Luca? I have been writing a lot of new music lately. My producer and I started working on a second single called "Gravity" which dives into some cool hip hop and R&B production that I am very excited about! We have plans to record an EP during the spring, which is also when I plan to debut the live show. instagram.com/lenalucamusic facebook.com/lenalucamusic #BuzzMusic

  • Katie Rose Brings Us the Emotional New Song “New Years Eve”

The South Carolina born, Katie Rose has brought us a super emotionally powerful and raw single “New Years Eve”. “It’s 10 o’clock on New Years Eve and I don’t know where you are” is the first lyric of the song that sits perfectly on a beautiful piano and you’re instantly strapped in, ready to go. Holding on for your dear life, these lyrics and vocal performances take it all out of you and are both emotionally heavy. The song also has some strings layered in that fit perfectly and musically, the song can be compared to Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful”. However, “New Years Eve” has such a unique vocal performance by the very talented Katie Rose, so the song stands alone on its own platform. The song ends with a super powerful and power played vocal stretch saying “you missed me on New Year’s Eve”, accompanied by the most beautiful piano we’ve heard in a long time. The song is almost 5 minutes long but doesn’t feel that way. You are certainly still ready for more by Katie Rose once it finishes! Be sure to keep up to date with Katie Rose on social media for more music releases and tour dates! Listen to 'New Years Eve" here. Thank you for being with us at Buzz Music, Katie! Your song New Years Eve tells a powerful story, is this based on a story that happened to you? Was this written from another perspective? What is the full scoop here? Thank you for having me! I wrote this song a couple of years ago for a New Year’s eve show with Jump, Little Children. It’s not based on something that’s specifically happened to me, but I wanted to write a story about missing someone during the holidays. I felt like everyone could relate to that whether it be significant others, family members that are far away, or someone you’ve lost. You have been performing since the age of 13, what has been your favorite performance so far? I loved playing my first-ever headlining show in Charleston (my hometown). It was sold out and I had my closest family and friends there to support me. I got to talk about my songs, what they mean to me, and just be honest with everyone there. It was perfect! Your voice is so powerful. At what moment in life did you realize you have a wonderful talent? Did your family encourage you to pursue music? Thank you! I only realized I had something special after I wrote and performed a one woman show at the age of 13 for a talent show. My parents were so proud of me and I almost won! After that, I began taking writing more seriously and even started to take vocal lessons to improve my control and range. I’m very lucky to have parents that completely support me. Since day one they’ve had my back and have done so much to help me on my journey. You have toured with Howie Day! What was that experience like? Are there any other tours coming up? It was my very first big tour and it was incredibly exciting! It was a huge learning experience as well. There’s so much more to touring than people think, but it’s all very worth it. I met so many amazing people and saw incredibly cute towns and venues. I’ll never forget it. As for 2020 tours, you’ll see very soon. hint hint. Lastly, when can we expect more music and what do you want to leave your fans who are reading with? More music is coming very soon. I have so many plans for 2020 and it definitely includes singles, music videos, and an EP. It’s all about growth and this is only the beginning! instagram.com/thekatierose facebook.com/thekatierosemusic #BuzzMusic

  • HEROINE Makes Our Ears Dance with New Single “Baptism”

Brooklyn, NY - full of rich art and culture and today we are brought an incredible piece of the cities offerings. HEROINE brings us the gift of “Baptism”. Sonically, you are instantly brought into a time warp in the production of “Baptism”, with the sparkling 80’s influence. Lyrically, there is poetry here, shining with lyrics such as “let the storm brew like it’s a Baptism”. The guitar work is amazing and feels like The 1975’s “Love Me” mixed with the iconic 80’s artists such as Cyndie Lauper. The group HEROINE is comprised of two amazing female talents that are on a mission to spread equality and unison - making way for the new world and way of life that we are all hopeful for. The vocal performance is full of soul, passion, and delivery. You can feel the intention in the delivery and I’m sure that the producer of this track was very pleased about capturing these vocal takes. By the end of the song, you feel better than you did before you listened to it. “Baptism” is the sonic boom that could transform the world and create a better space for everyone to live together. Listen "Baptism" here. Thanks for being with us at Buzz Music! Your new single “Baptism” is sonically of the ’80s but the lyrics are progressive and forward. Was this something you consciously had in mind when writing the song? Thanks for having us! And yeah! The song was inspired by a friend's fear of coming out to her parents and her own inner reckoning with being both a gay woman and a Christian. The song offers reassurance to anyone going through their own inner battles, with the message that it's okay to let yourself feel the tough stuff too-- that if we let ourselves ride headfirst through the storm, it can lead us to the light at the end of the tunnel- to our own powerful truth. "Don't be afraid of the water, it's here to make you new." Since the song talks about embracing that idea of riding through the hard times, we thought a dancy, uplifting sound would best represent that forward motion. We all have to keep waking up every day and find the energy and courage to keep fighting for who we are. Who was the producer of “Baptism” and why were they chosen for the job? Dan Ryan (of the Baltimore-based band, Super City) produced this song. He’s a great hometown friend of ours and has worked on a few of our songs with us in the past. We originally wrote “Baptism” along to a drum groove and sent it to him just to see what he would do with it and what his instincts would be for the song. He sent us 2 demos in a day or two with almost the whole track built on garage band on his phone. The first option he sent was the fast, groovy part that you hear in the first half of the song. The second part goes into more of the ocean part of the song. Calm, but still with good momentum. We decided to take both of those parts and make it into one song. One of our engineers, also based in Baltimore, Steve Wright, helped bridge those two parts together beautifully. We had a great team of collaborators helps make this song as powerful and funky as it is now. Being from Brooklyn, how has living there inspired your art? We’re both originally from Maryland, but living in Brooklyn has totally inspired the art that we’re making. There are so many people making so many different kinds of art and that energy is infectious. To live right in the middle of that, surrounded by other creators and doers motivates us to keep going and to keep trying our “crazy ideas” just to see what happens. Most of the indie musicians live in Brooklyn too so it’s easy to collaborate, rehearse, see shows, go to sessions, and the list goes on.  It’s nice to be a part of the community. We’re also roommates in BK, so that has really opened a lot of doors for us in terms of being able to rehearse and write at home together. We actually just opened a new neighborhood music venue called The Garage in our home garage in Crown Heights, where we perform with our other two roommates (both singers as well) and host open mics for other artists to come and try out new ideas in a safe space. We’re really excited to see where it goes. How do you hope that your music will change the world? Oh, man. It’s a tough question and we talk about this a lot. The main thing that we’re trying to do with our music is just as honest as possible in our writing. The hope is that our honesty will inspire and give people space where they feel they can truly be themselves. We believe that if we can write truthfully about our observations and our own experiences as queer women in the world, it will (hopefully) inevitably reflect the times-- and if changing the world can mean changing the life of just one person, or offering just a little bit more honesty in the constant flow of media, then we’re doing our job. It’s truly an act of resistance especially during this time in America to share how three dimensional we are.  We are spiritual, queer, women who love chocolate and love to laugh and also have deep insecurities. We all have a lot going on in our lives and beings and some of that carries similarities and differences. Either way, it’s important to hear it all and share it all. Lastly, what is something you want to leave listeners with and can we expect more new music at the turn of the decade? We hope you love Baptism. We’ve been excited to share it for a long time so thanks so much for listening and supporting indie bands like us. And you bet!! We’re working on our debut EP so be on the lookout for lots of new music in 2020! facebook.com/heroine.music.nyc instagram.com/heroine.music.nyc twitter.com/Heroine_NYC youaremyheroine.com #BuzzMusic
