- TJ Holiday Graces Our Ears With New Song, “Arrival” and We Are Happy About It!
Born in southwestern PA, TJ Holiday has been producing since the ripe age of only 13! Starting out with Hip Hop and Trap, TJ Holiday has been able to craft his own unique spin on the genres and offers something new for all listeners. His new song “Arrival” starts out with some “Drake” Esq influenced synth pads, but then introduces trap beats suddenly, you can’t tell where the influence is coming from. Which, if you ask me, is a great thing! As the song continues, you’re introduced with EDM influenced synth & vocal elements, then you really are buckled up for a worthwhile ride. The song opens up around the 1:27 mark and you suddenly have a full understanding of the unique sounds all being fused into one. “Arrival” then explodes one last time and rings out with a very epic ending. Imagine if a firework show having a massive ending could turn into sonic sounds? This is what it would be. Wrapping up at exactly 3:33, you want more and you go for more! Good news, his album “Daydreamer” has songs and 48 minutes worth of sonic goodness. TJ’s mission is to help listeners escape reality through blissful electronic melodies and mind-numbing bass and drum-lines. You’ve gotta give it to this amazing artist from steel city who is flipping the EDM world upside down and doing something amazingly fresh. Listen to "Arrival" here. Thanks for being with us today, TJ! Has growing up in the Pittsburgh area had any affect on you pursuing a career in music? Thank you for having me! Oh, for sure. The Pittsburgh area is filled with go-getters. Seeing others around me chase their dreams is inspiring on its own. In addition to that, the music scene is flourishing. Upcoming artists all around and of course the guys that have a staple in the industry like Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa. The city and the area are both extremely inspiring for the artist in any field. How is the EDM scene where you’re from and how is your sound received? Believe it or not, the EDM or Electronic scene isn’t thriving as much as I wish it would be in the area. There are certainly some hard dubstep lovers around but not so much in the type of sound that I produce. It’s hard turning people on to something different and new. It takes time to gain some steam and attention to begin to grow. However, there are some fans in the area that love what I’m doing and are anxious for another release. I’m just as anxious as they are. Do you have any collabs in the works for new music? It’s funny you ask that. Not long ago, I spoke with the lead singer of All In Uniform, a punk rock band from around my way. We’ve agreed on a collaboration and we’re super pumped about it. We’re aiming for an Electro/Pop/Punk EP. I’ll certainly have more details over the next coming weeks but the project is for sure happening. Do you have any plans to perform out of state? Any places you hope that your music brings you to? No plans as of yet for any performances as of yet. Although, I hope my music takes me everywhere. That’s a dream come true. Traveling and performing the music I love around the world to people who love it as much as I do, nothing would be better. However, on a smaller scale, a dive bar in LA would be cool lol. Lastly, what do you want to leave your listeners with today? Thank you. I seriously appreciate each person that ever listened to anything I produced. It means a million. For the people waiting for new music, it’s coming! instagram.com/tjholidaymusic twttier.com/tjholidaytweets #BuzzMusic
- Gary Kazazian Spills His Heart and Shares New Song “Your Beautiful Heart”
Coming at us from Los Angeles, CA (specifically Glendale) we have the eager and hungry Gary Kazazian and he needs your beautiful heart! This raw folk song is brought to us by a true artist who only needs the bare bones of folk music to get his point across (as well as your beautiful heart). From Glendale, Gary pours his soul into “Your Beautiful Heart” and you can hear his soul from the start of the song. There isn’t much of a mystery in his lyrics, you can tell right from the beginning what’s happening and it isn’t hard to follow along, while simultaneously feeling sympathetic toward him. This song pulls on our emotional heartstrings and by the 3:16 mark of the song, you may or may not have a tissue wiping away tears! (At least we did). The song calls his love interest to put down the bottle and to find themselves again, which is a truly inspirational message. Showing how much he cares for this person and their well being, Gary Kazazian is a folk singer who wants to see the best in the people around him. Gary has the help of his hard-working manager and his folk influences of Townes Van Zandt and Jason Molina to bring us his heart filled music. While engineering isn’t his forte, song writhing and letting it all out on paper apparently is. He enjoys to fish and has written several songs about catching the big one. Listen to Gary Kazazian here! Thanks for being with us today at Buzz Music, Gary! At what age did you start writing music? I was a bit of a late bloomer. I didn't really pick up an instrument until I was 20, so around then is when I started writing. Hard rock was my first love, then I transitioned to folk. When did you know it was time to take it to the next level and hire management? When I looked at my brother and he seemed smart with his glasses. On a serious note, he had some good ideas. You enjoy fishing, being from Los Angeles do you ever find yourself at the Santa Monica Pier at night? If not, where do you find yourself fishing? I'm not much of a pier fisherman. Usually, I like to find a good rocky structure somewhere in Malibu away from the crowds. El Pescador beach is one of my favorites. Has the Pacific Ocean and living in Los Angeles played any influence on your music? The Pacific Ocean has, in the sense that being out at the beach is a reset for me. That reset allows creative ideas to flow without obstruction. As for Los Angeles itself, I'm sure it has, but I try not to be too affected by the city. Any plans to tour and release new music? What's next for you as we enter 2020? There are a bunch of new songs on the way with a bit of a more technical acoustic style than my previous material. There will be some shows to coincide with those releases. facebook.com/garykazazian instagram.com/garykazaz #BuzzMusic
- Mark Collins Brings Us All Back to Our Roots With His Latest Single “Late Nights on 287”
Usually, when people think of Colorado, you may instantly think of the Colorado Avalanche, ski resorts and some of the most progressive ideals. However, we all now have another figure to consider, and it’s Mark Collins From Fort Collins, CO. Marin Collins is here to grace our ears with his interesting take on hip hop, with his new song “Late Nights on 287”. The song opens up with a soft jazz trumpet lick, that goes into a smooth vocal rap that is reminiscent of Mark Collin’s influences of the ’80s and 90’s Hip Hop. From artists such as Easy E and Big L, Mark Collins' song “Late Nights on 287” paints a musical landscape of his hometown and where he grew up, leaving listeners feeling nostalgic. Not to harp totally on the past and influence, “Late Nights on 287” also feels brand new. Sonically, it’s hard to say that we have heard much in recent times that is this fresh & unique. We are living in times where it is easy to take what is working on a popular sonic scale and copy/ paste, but Mark Collins legitimately paves his own path for all listeners. Collins has shared the stage with many incredible artists, such as Waka Flocka Flame, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Tech N9ne, and many others. Proving to not only himself but all eyes and ears that he can and will stand on the same stage as his heroes & contemporaries. Be sure to keep your tabs on Mark Collins and do yourself the favor of listening to “Late Nights on 287” today. Listen to Late Nights on 287” here. Hi Mark, thank you for talking with us at BuzzMusic! What is "287" and how can you describe it to help bring all listeners there with you? Thank you for having me, Highway 287 (aka S. College Ave.) is the Main Street that runs straight through the middle of Fort Collins, CO. For me, 287 has always been somewhat of a getaway where I could clear my head, get the vibe for new music and just cruise with the homies. That being said, I just wanted to capture that feeling with my late nights' track. You have performed with artists such as Waka Flocka Flame, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Tech N9ne. What has been the most defining moment for you as an artist? The most defining moment as an artist was my first solo show when I opened for Apathy, that night I captured the energy I didn’t know I had. That night made me realize that this wasn’t just a dream anymore, it was my life. I have had so many ups and downs in my life, and when I’m on stage everything fades away. It’s the greatest feeling in the world. Also, it was the first show I’ve done since my father passed away, and it happened to be in the venue where he very first saw me perform. It was full circle and it couldn’t have gone better. How do you find Fort Collins and it’s placed in Hip Hop vs cities such as New York City, Atlanta, and Los Angeles? Fort Collins, CO has a small hip-hop scene in my opinion. I feel Colorado hasn’t found its place in hip-hop yet, there is plenty of great artists here, however, sometimes the driver doesn’t match the talent and that’s a downfall for a lot of up & coming artist. We’re told to be realistic and get a 9-5 job, but I don’t feel life has to be that way. LA has a sound for a reason, Atlanta & New York too, people redefined how they wanted to live life and created something legendary. That’s my goal here. At what age did you start listening to Hip Hop artists such as Easy E? I was really young when my father introduced me to Hip-Hop, maybe 5-6 years old, he would always play Eazy-Duz-It and Too Shorts album, Life is Too Short, along with many other things. I thank him for that every day because it gave me a feeling nothing else really could. The way a beat can just grab your soul and change your perspective on the world is so powerful. It’s important to know how you’re feeling and when you can express it over a beat, your world starts to change. When can we expect more music from you? New music is coming within the next few months since I put out my first album Ambrosia, which is available on all platforms, I have released many singles since then. I’m currently working on a sequel to Ambrosia, which will be announced in the coming weeks. Thank you for your time! - A New Label Is Taking Over With Album “Old Money” by Octavious Binion
Octavious Binion released a promising album titled “Old Money”. Each track on this project warrants its place on the album with its own unique elements that make it a stand-out hit. Octavious Binion sticks to the culture of hip-hop albums with a nice intro that gets you anxious and prepared for this project as a whole. Octavious Binion transitions from the intro into “Go Crazy”. “Go Crazy” had a smooth fusion in the production of the beat between contemporary trap and melodic rap, blending together two popular styles in current hip-hop that’s taking over the game. “Status” hits you like a wrecking ball just like a club banger. The song has a catchy hook with a smashing beat, keeping your energy transitioning from a wavy ride to a hard-hitting head bop. “I’m Gucci” was one of my personal favorites. This song had a contagious hook that radiated the energy onto its listener. It’s one of those hooks that becomes instilled into your memories like super glue. You find yourself repeating the hook over and over, later on, keeping yourself in the hyped-up mood the song placed you in the beginning. “Yo Moe Shit” kept the grit and rough delivery consistent with the album. This shows the label’s overall style and flavor as a whole, giving us a good insight into who they are which is highly important and should be the formula for creating a full-length album like this. “Risky” was a song that I feel would garner a great buzz behind it due to the detailed vocal production that’s popular in today’s music. It has elements of autotune alongside very contemporary melodic hip-hop components that the youth is absorbing. “Network” had raw lyricism to match its authentic vibe with a hard-hitting approach to the cadence. The lyrics set off a bonafide vibration through the song that really compels and drives the listener into the album. “Suavity” was more of a canorous club vibe that you can see many people dancing and catching smooth zen to. I think the addition of “Suavity” in this album was highly important because it gives the project versatility and shows a more vibrant dynamic as opposed to the other records on this album. I absolutely loved the beat in “Camp Shit” because it really represented the underground hip-hop that we fall immensely in love with. This album as a whole is filled with bangers, thought-provoking lyrics, and hard-hitting deliveries that shows us why this label isn’t approaching the game lightly! You can listen to “Old Money” here! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Tell us about this album “Old Money”. What inspired the name behind it? When I was a little boy I had a shoebox that I always threw dollars in even 20s and hundreds if I got them occasionally on my birthday I’ll probably have the box for almost 10 years so by the time I got older it was considered old money and that’s what inspired the name of this album. What was the major theme you had for this project? Whatever it took to get the money by any means necessary. Which songs from “Old Money” do you feel best represented the album’s theme? If I had to pick a song I would have to say the song would be risky but really I have a few songs on here that I feel like represents the album I just can’t pick one I have a few because it’s a compilation album, not a solo album or a solo mixtape is a label album with every artist from our label on it. What were some of the challenges you had to overcome when creating “Old Money”? Going broke and getting it back lose the artist gaining new artists dealing with Egos deal with different personalities. How would you describe the songwriting approach towards some of the records in “Old Money”? To get the attention of the fans and let them know that we have arrived. What’s next for this rising label? sg solo has a mixtape coming out dolo da god has an ep coming out an lo lo has an r&b ep coming out. instagram.com/golmindsent #BuzzMusic
- Mali Ama Gets Right to the Point With Her Debut “Big Bang”
“If someone gives you a gift, you should use it,” says Mali Ama, the Atlanta, GA talented R&B/ Hip Hop artist. Today, we are happy she listened to her calling because she brings us the shortest banger of all time with Big Bang! Clocking in at only 1 minute and 26 seconds, “Big Bang” is enough to show you how much talent Mali Ama has to work with. The song starts out with a beat and rhythm that is reminiscent of somewhere between Jimmy Hendrix and Adele. Strange, I know, but you have to trust us. It’s super unique! When her vocals come in, you aren’t just taken back by her aggressively sexual vocals, but the vocal performance is honestly out of this world. Definitely an easy attention grabber with her explicit lyrics and her God-given talent to sing. As well as her amazing vocal talents, she self-produced this track and I think the short track has something to do with this. It’s always nice when an artist is starting because they can create with no biased in mind, nothing to outdo or anything to follow up. It’s pure, and it’s unique. Speaking to the brand, the single artwork paints your eyes with what your ears will hear. The best part, she also takes care of all of her visuals! Mali Ama is amazing, she’s talented and she’s here to stay. Go follow her on everything, you know we are. Listen to "Big Bang" here. Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us here at Buzz Music! You have only been doing this for a couple of years, but your production work is amazing. Did you have any mentors in the production/songwriting realm? Thank you for the compliment! I wouldn't say I had a mentor in production, however, me listening to music carefully, I don't listen to lyrics first when I hear a song I listen to the beat and trying it myself on my phone using Garage Band really showed me I can produce my own work. Going to SAE in Atlanta for audio engineering and singing in the GSU choir really honed in my skills. “Big Bang” is short, but says what it needs to say. Was there any thought to extend the song? Nowadays, most songs are 2 minutes or less. After hearing Summer Walker 'Last Day of Summer' project and Solange's latest project 'When I Get Home', most of their songs are like 1 minute. I was like if they can get to the point in less than 2 minutes why can't I? What were my thoughts creating Big Bang, keep it short and sweet? Plus, I think it makes you want to listen to it more, being so short. What is your vision for the new music you are working on? I know it’s short, but I feel like you have created an atmosphere with “Big Bang”. Well, I had a debut EP titled 'God Vs. Men' on all platforms released July 2018, however it was taken down this spring due to issues with my distributor. It's still on my SoundCloud though, privately, I may make it public again on SoundCloud. I had liked to call it alternative R&B. I personally listen to a broad spectrum of music; from Hip-Hop to Classical music, so I don't want to limit my music to just one genre. However, I'm currently working on a pop-ish/R&B single, set to release in January 2020. I have a Hip-Hop EP that I co-produced with a pretty dope producer name BNova that I'm holding onto for the right moment. How has growing up in the Atlanta music community influenced you and how do you think it compares to more prominent music cities, such as LA and NYC? Being an Atlanta native this city has definitely influenced my sound tremendously! I still emerge with a signature sound of my own. Intact with my Atlanta roots I incorporate those typical trap beat backgrounds banging 808’s, spattering high hats and floating synths every time into my music. Having my mom raise me and my sisters and her being from NYC, I feel like I was fortunate enough to blessed with a different approach to music. We grew up listing to QUEEN, Musiq Soulchild, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Celine Dion. When I had a chance to start listening to what I want it was Beyonce, Usher, Destiny Child, Ashanti, and The Dream to name a few. That rawness, hip hop sounds from New York to the trap central in Atlanta brought up a well diverse artist. I haven't been to LA, so I don't know what the music scene is like up there. When can we hear more? You are leaving us hanging big time! Expect to hear new music from me starting January 2020 and every month after that! mali-ama.com #BuzzMusic
- Iismaill Takes Us Through the Motions With New Song “Motions” - Out Now
From Fontana, CA we have a member of the rap collective Badgenre, introducing iismaill and his new song “Motions”. “Motions” hits you a certain way, with an opening that sets a chill vibe, the listener is almost taken to the east of LA city of Fontana. iismaill’s vocals are soft and gentle, while also to the point. The melodies in this track are super smart and easy to pick up on. Lyrically, it also isn’t hard to catch onto what’s happening. Seems like the artist is struggling with a love interest that is holding onto the past. The chorus hits in a way that reminds you of Drake’s “One Dance”, but also feels like something you haven’t heard before. The production is hopeful and shows room for improvement, but also gets the point across and speaks to the collaborating efforts of their collective. By the end of the song, you are certainly curious who iismaill is and you want to learn more. iismaill is 24 years old and is the first of his family to be a singer. He has been playing/ singing since the ripe age of 13 and has not slowed down. Before making his streaming service debut, iismaill has spent 2.5 years experimenting on SoundCloud while figuring out his sonic venture and it seems like he is now onto something. Definitely check out iismaill and his new song “Motions” now and share it with your friends. Listen to "Motions" here. Thank you iismaill for taking the time to chat with us at Buzz Music! What has it been like growing up in the Fontana area of California? Do you find yourself utilizing the industry in Los Angeles, being so close? Thank you, guys! It’s been a long but very eventful journey. I wouldn’t be half the man I am today if it weren’t for the things that I went through and saw/heard happen while living here or the IE in general. It’s most definitely shaped the way I am as an artist in a way as well. I do find myself in LA repeatedly, whether it be for a studio session, radio show, networking event, or even just to hang out and chill. The only downside as anybody will say, is the traffic on the commute. What made you and your friends want to start a collective? Where did the influence come from? So “Badgenre” started off as an idea from the collective’s manager, Reno Ludwiga. He came up with the name way back, and when he realized that some of his friends and his brother were musically gifted, it kind of just evolved into a collective. The influence was essentially just a couple of guys who loved making music, put together, but still having their own individual identity. The group consists of myself, Regi Levi, Waqqas, Cully Seville, DJ Madrid, & Reno. Seems like you are starting a clothing line! What will the vibe be for it? I am! The vibe for it will depend on the seasons obviously, but my focus is streetwear. Something that looks dope, but also very comfy at the same time. Hoodies, long-sleeve shirts, crewneck sweaters, t-shirts, beanies, and hats are my main focus for now. The graphics on them will be associated with my music, such as quotes from my songs or simply my logo. EP titles and song titles will also be printed on them as well. The plan is to put out my first batch of merch in 2020. Would you say that’s Drake is a prominent influence on what you’re doing? I wouldn’t say prominent influence, but I will say he does have certain attributes musically that I embody in a sense. I grew up listening to Drake, and he definitely developed his own sound, which I heavily admire. After all, what’s an artist without his/her own unique take on their craft? If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why? At the moment, it would have to be a major tie between Chris Brown, J.Cole, Drake, Tory Lanez, 6LACK, Travis Scott, Russ, and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie. I simply can’t just pick one artist, because I absolutely love all of their music and their sounds. They all sound very unique, and definitely have their own flavor. instagram.com/realiismaill twitter.com/realiismaill facebook.com/realiismaill #BuzzMusic
- Charlie Muse Gets Us Ready for the “Holiday Blues” With Her New Song
From Ohio, today we get the chance of listening to the very talented Charlie Muse. Now living in Las Vegas, Charlie is producing a unique twist on R&B with a fresh vibe with 2019/2020 elements. The song starts off super smooth with influence from 90’s R&B singers such as Toni Braxton, but her approach speaks for itself and no one else. Cementing Charlie Muse as a one of a kind artist, the song “Holiday Blues” starts off super vibey and mystic. When her vocals hit around the 34-second mark, it’s like drinking a nice glass of red wine, by a cozy fireplace with a snowstorm happening outside but you are safe & sound. The song is about being sad over the holidays, without the presence of a loved one and it’s easy to pick up on that. The chorus explains that “Christmas ain’t the same without you here” and we all know that feeling, missing the only gift of love. I can definitely agree that we have been there, felt that. The song closes out almost at 4 minutes and you’re left feeling a little shook, thinking “maybe I should hold onto my love interest through the holiday season”. Her Debut EP “Saturn” is out now and has propelled Charlie Muse to stages from Las Vegas to all over the west coast. Drawing in audiences with her captivating live performance and amazing talents, Charlie Muse proves that she has something worth being seen and hear by the masses. Listen to "Holiday Blues" here. - DJ Forrest Houston Brings Us on an Experience With New Single “Not Alone”
Hailing from Houston, TX - DJ Forrest Houston has set out to take the experience of EDM to a new sonic highway that many have not traveled. His new single “Not Alone” is similar to starting a car and driving into a deserted road that eventually leads to your favorite music festival that is lit up with screaming sounds and unreal production for 3 days straight. Kicking off, “Not Alone” begins with a dream-like synth that is supported by the amazing and soft vocals of Kelsey Edwards. Instantly, the song sets the tone of a sadness that is backed up by a hopeful future. When the drop hits, you’re instantly dancing and the serotonin levels in your brain are immediately restored. The track “Not Alone” isn’t your typical EDM song and we truly believe that not only Kelsey Edwards vocal performance makes this song special, but also the unique production and tones that are brought to the table by DJ Forrest Houston. As well, there seems to be a true pop sensibility in the structure of the song, making this an easy listen for all ears, not just the fans of typical EDM production. Having a true widespread on this track, “Not Alone” has the potential to reach new audiences and open doors for a new artist like DJ Forrest Houston. We are all aware of how large the city of Houston is, and DJ Forrest Houston has been rated the top 3 DJ’s in the entire city. Proving he is not a one-trick pony, DJ Forrest Houston is the perfect entertainer for Top Tier Nightlife, Corporate, Wedding, School, and Private Functions. Be sure to keep up to date with him and see if you can experience his sonic universe sometime soon. Listen to "Not Alone" here. Welcome to BuzzMusic DJ Forrest Houston. Who are some of the artists, not only DJ’s that you draw inspiration from? I draw inspiration from different eras and genres of music from my DJing over 20 years but the few that stick out are Tiesto and Calvin Harris. Tiesto evolved his style to keep up with today's trends along with creating epic remixes and he continues to be a worldwide force while I feel very similar to Calvin Harris in that he loves to find the world's top talent and collaborate with them and maximize their skillsets. My intention is to create DJ ready songs as I only have an interest in music that will move dancefloors versus listening to music. Would you say that you look to pop culture songwriting when shaping your songs? If so, what sort of impact do you look to have with listeners? Yes absolutely. I try to release relevant lyrics and music that take advantage of trends. For example, I released "Alien Escapes" EDM instrumental track to honor the Raid Area 51 phase. I created "Terminator" because the movie touched my life in so many ways as a kid, in addition to the latest movie releasing in November. I created "Release" because I see so many people, including myself, that have been holding back their passions their entire lives! My message is to inspire and move the audience on an emotional level. I want DJs to feel comfortable when they see the DJ Forrest Houston name that they are getting a quality track to take the guesswork out of choosing new music to feature. You perform at Top Tier Nightlife, Corporate, Wedding, School, and Private Functions but what would be your favorite environment to perform in? My favorite is nightlife because there is nothing like moving a huge crowd and I don't have to hold back musically with clean edits or filler music for the most part. However, when performing weddings and private events there is a level of pride knowing that you made the most important day in someone's life a huge success. I just love my craft! Any dream festivals you’d love to be part of? I would love to someday take the stage at major festivals like Tomorrowland or Ultra. I get chills when I watch DJs performers lighting up a crowd and generating tears in the audience with the stage presence and theatrics. I know I have the skillset to do this and can one day see myself performing at a festival like this! Do you have any plans to release more music and what do you hope to accomplish in 2020? Yes absolutely, my goal in 2020 is to continue releasing new music and remixes in the EDM, pop, and Hip hop genres while continuing to collaborate with top world's talent as I did with Oliviya Nicole, Dezi Dior, and Kelsey Edwards in 20019! I have some huge surprises in the works and hope you join me on this journey. This truly is just the beginning as my first ever song release was only June of 2019 and my music has already been streamed over 100k times in over 70 countries already! instagram.com/djforresthouston facebook.com/djforresthouston #BuzzMusic
- Liptruce Brings Us on a Journey With Their Latest Single “Night Things”
The sounds of West Hollywood can be dark, sinister and emotionally sexy. Liptruce definitely displays all of this with their new single “Night Things”. Setting the sonic tone for a nighttime drive on Sunset Strip, you’re taken to West Hollywood where “Night Things” grabs you and cradles you to sleep. Opening with drum pads and smooth synth-driven pop tones, Liptruce’s “Night Things” is reminiscent of early Lana Del Rey with sounds of elegance, lovemaking, and sadness at the exact same time. When the chorus takes place, you feel as if you’ve already been there, while still feeling like it’s something you have heard for the first time. The driving bass and downtempo vibe can make you feel like it’s night time, even if it’s 1 pm on a sunny day, in the best way possible. The artists in this song really create a universe of sound that draws inspiration from their LA natives in The Neighbourhood, being dark & cryptic. The singer's vocals stand out with her obvious talents and interesting choice of lyrics. Lines such as “there’s a danger in you” and the melodies were chosen, this is an infectious song that can be appreciated by all listeners of Pop music. We are excited about what will come next with Liptruce if this is any sort of glance into the future. If you are a fan of Pop music done dark & cryptic, we have something worth sharing with you! Make sure you check out Liptruce and keep up with them on social media to make sure you don’t miss them when they come to your town with their “Night Things”. Listen to "Night Things" here. Welcome to BuzzMusic Liptruce! Do you find that the vibes of West Hollywood play into the production of your music? Specifically with "Night Things"? I’m a West Coast native and a huge 90’s r&b fan. I was definitely channeling all that when we wrote “Night Things”. What was the process like for choosing some of these synth and unique production tones? We spent close to six months on pre-production, so we had a very narrowed down idea of the sounds we wanted, but our stock is limited and it wasn’t until we sat down with our co-producer that we really put the icing on the cake. The whole process in the studio was, metaphorically, like taking a VHS and making it Blue Ray. Our songs and the sounds within them really came to life. It was magic. If you could musically collaborate with any music artist, who would it be and why? Shit. Alt J, Matt Corby, Frank Ocean, Anderson Paak, Beyoncé, Lana Del Ray, Odesza, Dave Grohl, Leon Bridges...to name a few. But the list goes on. In my perfect world, we collab or I get to sing, with a different artist, classic or current, every few months until the end of time. Yup, I’d be busy in my world. How important is it for you to create a world for your listeners to live in while they enjoy your music? The underlying beauty of music is that it creates a connection. Whether I’m trying to be funny or sharing a deep truth I want listeners to feel it or at least to no longer feel alone, no matter what their world looks like. When can we expect a national tour from you? Our plan, at the moment, is to hit big target market cities within the next six months. I’m hoping we have a Summer of festivals thereafter. But I’m ready. I’m ripe. And our live set is prepped for The Tonight Show. facebook.com/liptruce instagram.com/liptruce twitter.com/liptruce #BuzzMusic
- David Thomas Jones Gives Us the Chance to Be Taken Away With New Song “The Scenes”
Austin, Texas - known for its highly progressive and artistic roots has given us another amazing sonic experience! David Thomas Jones is here with his new song “The Scenes” and we are happy about it. “The Scenes” comes from a new EP released on October 29th of this year and it is infectious. Taking modern folk influence and fusing a pop sensibility, David Thomas Jones makes it easy for us to sing along with this very talented multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer, writer, ball of talent. The song eases in with light percussion that then unfolds into catchy acoustic guitar and vocal-driven Folk that feels familiar but sounds new. As a music listener, that’s all we can truly ask for. By the end of the track, you find yourself clapping and humming along, and it’s hard to not show your friends who you want to impress with your music taste. However, recording and releasing music is nothing new for David - he was the drummer of The Murdocks played bass for Scan Hopper and fronted the group Watch Out For Rockets. You may also recognize this talented artist as an actor and music contributor for the film “Mr. Roosevelt”. "The Scenes" is a song you do not want to miss out on, definitely give it a spin and sit back while you’re taken away to somewhere wonderful on a winters day. Listen to "The Scenes" here. David, so great to get the chance to speak with you. Tell us, what was it like growing up and playing music in a great music community such as Austin, TX? Nice to talk to you as well! I actually grew up in Wisconsin, but it's been pretty cool in Austin. Lots of great musicians. I haven't played out in Austin in a while because on my solo albums I play all the instruments and I haven't put together a band to play any of it live. I should get on that haha. Where did you find yourself when you were writing The Scenes, and what inspired it? I wrote the music and melody to it while I was in Los Angeles helping a friend with her album. I wrote the lyrics a few months later and kind of got myself into the same headspace as when I first started writing it. Traveling kind of puts your life in perspective. You get out of auto-pilot and can take stock of what you've been doing in your day to day routine. What is all the effort and worry building up to? Are you building up to something or just haphazardly throwing the energy out into the ether? So there's a line 'Now I'm living, afraid it won't count, the scenes they don't add up'. Which is me just being frustrated. You’ve done some acting work, is this something that you may find yourself doing in the near future? That kind of just fell into my lap, so it's hard to say if I'd do it again. It was a lot of fun so if I was asked to I probably would, but I don't think I'll be going to auditions or anything like that. Where do you draw influence from when you’re not only writing the music and lyrics, but your melodies? Seems like there is a pop sensibility in there, which is very important to be tapped into. I think just hearing songs that I like inspires me to take a shot at making my own, and what I'm into is constantly changing. It's kind of a problem! On this last album, I think I was musically probably inspired a bit by BRMC since I was listening to them a lot. Maybe some Blue Album too. Probably some other stuff I can't think of now. There's usually a seed of an idea, and it will do its thing, and you do something to the idea, and it does something back, and on and on until it's a finished song. Or a half-finished song that just sits there, which is usually the case. I usually try to bypass my brain when I'm writing and just let the songs form without me getting in the way. Especially with lyrics. Sometimes there's an intentional message I'm trying to make. Not too intentional hopefully, cuz that's no fun. Lastly, what is next for you? Any new plans for releasing new music? I have a whole bunch of cheesy 80's synth music that I might finish and release under the name Johnny Popcorn. He's a fictitious guy I made up who lives in Sacramento, is originally from the USSR, and loves communism and muscle cars. I recently produced a couple of songs for Noël Wells, and would love the opportunity to do more producing. instagram.com/daveofthewakinguniverse #BuzzMusic
