- Listen To Shantoi’s Infectious Rhythms In “Girlfriend”
Born in Jamaica but raised in New York between Bronx and Manhattan, talented artist Shantoi was always around music growing up. Singing since she learned to speak, Shantoi only began songwriting within the last few years. Her music style consists of a mixture of R&B, Pop, and Reggae. Shantoi enjoys creating music that everyone can connect, relate, and vibe to. She used music as her therapeutic outlet and strives to touch her listeners and make them realize they are not alone, no matter their struggle. “Girlfriend” is a hard-hitting track all about Shantoi calling out this unfaithful man. He’s interested in her and Shantoi is unapologetic about calling him out. Shantoi wants to stay away from the drama and doesn’t need that energy in her life. The opening riff has a pleasant delicacy to it that quickly becomes a massive trait of the single. You recognize these moments of musical individuality as much as you do the hook, they are shorter lived, yet repeating enough times to make certain you know the song when it plays. Everything works well within to lay out the ideal foundation upon which Shantoi’s swagger and style can shine brightly. It’s a strong release and it highlights the artist’s musical direction and personality well. Check out “Girlfriend” here and read more with Shantoi below! Hi Shantoi! In your own words, what’s the concept behind “Girlfriend”, and why did you decide to create a song around that? The concept behind Girlfriend is that I had a couple of my friends who actually was going through that situation in their personal life, and I realized a lot of people been in that same situation before, and it inspired me because I felt the other females who have been in this situation would recognize it and connect. What do you hope people take away from this release? I hope people take from this song is don’t settle and talk to a man that has a girlfriend. If he’s not single leave him alone. Because it's not right, and it will leave someone hurt in the end when feelings get involved. Who or what would you say inspires or influences you the most musically? I’ll say Beyoncé inspires me musically because I love her work ethic, her consistency, and she’s all for women empowerment. Rihanna also plays a big part in inspiring me musically. The reason why is because she showed me that an artist doesn't have to limit themselves to just being successful in the music industry but can also show their other talents and execute in all areas. What are your main aspirations as an artist right now? My aspiration as an artist is to be able to one day tour the world and perform in front of many people so they can get a chance to listen to my music to understand some my life experiences, also I hope my music is therapeutic to those who can relate and even to those who don’t. What’s something about you that most people don’t know? One thing about me most people don’t know is that I’m such a goofball. In public settings most times I come off as more of a quiet standoff kind of person but when you actually get to know me I’m literally a “class clown.” Connect with Shantoi on social media www.instagram.com/_shantoimusic_
- Ashley Woodruff Hopes For More In Latest Single “Summer Love”
Ashley Woodruff talented contemporary pop artist based out of Sudbury, Canada. She developed a passion for singing and writing songs from a very young age, and began taking vocal lessons when she was 11. From there, Ashley was able to develop her voice through classical training. When Ashley was a teenager, she attended Sudbury Secondary School as a vocal music major. All of the positive feedback was the fuel needed, to eventually write and release her own songs. Ashley's latest releases are her singles, "Somewhere In There", and "Summer Love" and she states there’s more to come throughout the year! Stay tuned. “Summer Love” is a heart-warming new single from Ashley that we’ve fallen in love with. It focuses on the fleeting feelings of love. Confusion and desire take hold of our thoughts. Ashley Woodruff sings throughout the chorus “Let this be, more than Summer Love” to fully capture her audience. Her vocals are mesmerizing and have an impressive individuality. The single cascades around you as this stunning wave of carefully selected synths and moments, progressing quickly from smooth and dreamlike to rhythmically engaging, and making perfect sense in the process. The song successfully envelops its audience for the full extent of its lifespan. “Summer Love” has elements of retro-pop fused with a contemporary and authentic Ashley Woodruff flare. Listen to “Summer Love” here and read more with Ashley below! Hi Ashley! Congratulations on the single “Summer Love”! What can you tell us about this song? What prompted you to write it? Thank you very much! In June, I decided that I really wanted to release a summer song. Not too long after that, the lyrics/melody to the first few lines started popping into my head, and I continued writing until it was finished. Like all of my other material, after I was done writing "Summer Love", I showed it to producer Rob Murphy, and he composed the instrumental track, which really brought the song to life. What do you think is the most stand-out lyric in “Summer Love” I think the most stand-out lyric is, "Only ever wanna say goodnight, never wanna have to say goodbye". I think those who have had strong feelings for someone can relate to these lyrics, for the fact they would like their relationship to last. What first inspired you to start creating original music? I started writing original music when I was very young. I don't remember what inspired me to do so, I think it's just always something that's been in me. When I was in high school, I started releasing song covers online. All of the positive feedback from that, was the fuel needed to eventually start releasing original material. What are some of the values you aim to represent with your music? One of the values I aim to represent is being honest, and speaking from your heart. Another value I aim to represent is hard work. Along with writing/recording/performing at least a show a week, I'm in school, and have another job. Although I have a lot going on, I still manage to actively be involved with music. What can we expect from you going through to the end of 2019!? One thing you can definitely expect, is many more upcoming shows! A full list of dates can be found on ashleywoodruff.com. - Dougie and Keatz Weber Prove That Real Hip-Hop Is Still Alive With “Boom Trap”
With a gritty but intricate style, talented artist, Dougie from Alberta, Canada comes heavy in 2019. With the start of his career being the beginning of March 2019, he has made some fast improvements with his musical approach in the hip-hop community. Releasing four singles and a handful of freestyle videos, opening up for SDK veteran Evil Ebenezer in August 2019, who knows what is in store for this MC, but he sounds and looks prepared. “Boom Trap” is Dougie’s latest release and features fellow Alberta native, Keatz Weber. Keatz Weber was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta. As the owner of “Subtle Records”, he writes rhymes, makes beats, mixes and masters and records his own music. Amidst today’s hip-hop landscape, there are sounds that work, the ones that connect and make waves, and there are often overly familiar and increasingly un-interesting elements involved in that. In the case of “Boom Trap, Dougie and Keatz Weber kick in quickly with that modern sound, but the lyricism that develops later on is where you really start to witness something special. The beat itself has left a mark for its creative and colorful aura that walks in line with that classic, mildly familiar hip hop swagger. The bars are superb, honest and open, fascinating and often showcasing confidence and vulnerability all at once. You hear the passion and energy build up with every moment and I guarantee you’ll be hitting that repeat button. Listen to “Boom Trap” here and read more below in our exclusive interview. Hi Dougie! When did your passion for hip hop begin, and what made you decide to pursue it creatively? I was introduced to hip hop at the age of 11 and instantly fell in love. But it becoming a passion until i was about 16! Freestyles with homies while getting baked, or by myself at home while mom was gone. Listening to Chris Webby, Joyner Lucas, Merkules, Tupac, Big L and more! Joyner's fast flow is what really made me want to do some crazy shit! What’s your creative process like? How do you begin when writing a new track, and do you ever struggle to come up with something you’re happy with? I like to find a beat and play it through a few times before i start writing anything. than i start with my hook and verses! Oh i struggle sometimes just like any artist " but once it flows its better than ever" a friend once told me! Tell us more about your single “Boom Trap”! What message did you hope to achieve with this track? Boom Trap was actually a contest beat that I won from the homie Jaguar Kevins! I heard the beat and had something written before i had even won the beat! But i wanted to show lyrics, give off old school vibes and just have a fun track. Keatz Weber wasn't even originally on it. We were in the studio and recorded my verse when i decided to ask him if he wanted to be on it! he slayed that track! We move as one.Subtle Records until I'm 6 feet deep. What are your thoughts on mainstream hip hop at the moment? I'm not a huge fan. The auto-tune and easy flow with weak lyrics just doesn't appeal to me. I like content and lyrics with meaning. What can audiences look forward to for the remainder of the year? Do you have any shows coming up, new releases or collaborations? I have a few shows here in Alberta,Canada over the next few months in which I'm opening for Evil Ebenezer of SDK, some Smoked Out Battle League Events that I will be performing at. I have a few collaborations in the works. One with the homie Scarz Real Hip Hop out in west haven,CT. and a few other Grind mode affiliates. Even an album is in the works! 14 Tracks with a few features. I wanna learn producing so i can pull a Russ on the industry Connect with Dougie and Keatz Weber on social media www.instagram.com/keatz_weber www.instagram.com/p www.twitter.com/dougie403
- Renowned Producer Ro Bradley Releases New Single “Nothing Left” With Canadian Urban Artist KVNE
A year after his latest release, Ro Bradley is back and better than ever after signing with Canadian independent label Killa Kartel. The label’s biggest artist, Kevin Edworthy, professionally known as KVNE, pairs his intelligent lyricism and urban-pop styling with Ro’s uplifting and energetic melodies. Written in collaboration with another BuzzMusic favorite, LowKeyyTM, they release “Nothing Left”. This new track combines two immensely diverse artists to form a genre-bending, groundbreaking and refreshing new addition to Killa Kartel’s impressive repertoire. Being able to bring Ro Bradley on board is a testament to what Killa Kartel are able to achieve, the partnership proves The Kartel are massively on the rise and are a force to be reckoned with. “Ballerina” by KVNE has just surpassed 100k steams in a month on Spotify and shows no signs of slowing down. "Nothing Left" is the first single on Killa Kartel by Ro Bradley, followed in September by “Lost Without You”, his most anticipated song to date. As artists, the duo aim to get people thinking about the strains of modern day life on a society of people growing ever distant from one another. Ro Bradley and KVNE teamed up to release a peak dance floor anthem “Nothing Left”. Rarely do you get such a professionally crafted and impressive fusion of urban pop and house music. Few attempt it and fewer do it well, but Ro Bradley and KVNE have mastered the art in this case. Seeing the full force of high energy, rhythmically flawless, verses pour through amidst a heavy electronic backdrop forces the vibe even higher. This fusion of elements is as rare as can be, and just to showcase further the impressive building blocks that make it what it is, KVNE’s lyrics hit with meaning and impact but allow for a few minutes of escapism. The intensity throughout “Nothing Left” comes from the pace, the relentless flow, and the refusal to fall below par. The track quickly steps into it's role as an alternative anthem that focuses on consumerism and issues of material greed in modern society. The topic at hand is relatable and sparks similarities and connections with all listeners. Absolutely worth letting play more than a few times. Brilliantly creative and consistently professional sound design. I look forward to hearing more from KVNE and Ro Bradley! Check out “Nothing Left” here and keep scrolling for more with KVNE and Ro Bradley! Hey KVNE and Ro Bradley! Congratulations on the release of “Nothing Left”. What was the main goal of this song? What do you hope your fans take away from it? Thank you! The main goal of the song was defiantly to get started on Spotify and with Kevin & The Killa Kartel, I have done a lot in music but I missed out on the whole Spotify Buzz, Kevin was the one that convinced me to just get to it and start releasing music, I was working on my debut album but honestly I make so much stuff for me and other artists that I just started to stockpile really, I mixed and mastered the track which I was a bit skeptical about but again all the credit goes to Kevin for kicking my ass into gear and just putting music out there! I hope fans see the old me and the new me come through, particularly for people that dont know me, I have a lot of different sounds and as a producer I make a lot of genres, I also think to get KVNE on his first Dance track was a big step for him, he really stepped up to the bar and he is really really going places, FAST. What are the main factors required in order for a contemporary producer to make waves within the scene? The main factors required to makes waves is a tough question, because the Industry has changed so much that there is defiantly no road map to follow. That being said you have to look at your music like any product or business, if you don't have a solid plan you won't create any longevity, so many people are focused on likes and streaming numbers that they forget what its really about, its about creating a connection with someone who will keep following you and pushing you to keep going. I would say make sure your product is upto the standards of the other songs out there, look at what a big label does and try and get as close as you can, its really hard but they have huge teams of people, independently you have to be the whole business, ultimately marketing is something people have to think about, people aren't just going to hear your song because you post on social media, like any product a huge amount of money, time and planning goes into the promotion, and then you hope people like it and the response is good. “Nothing Left” is an incredibly creative and original new track! How do you get started with a piece like this, and how do you know when it’s done and ready to be shared? Thanks you! I actually created the original beat with a vocal sample, then I sent it over to Kevin and he worked his magic, he sent me back the vocals and I reworked the track to fit, it wasn't easy because as you said it is unique and creative, and different so I spent a lot of time questioning it and making changes, Its almost like a hip hop/rnb big room house track, but thats up to others to decide. I always tend to criticize my work comparing it to others but in the end you just have to take a leap. Do you write from a love for music first or a desire to express something meaningful in a manner that will more likely be heard by many? I absolutely write for the love, the Industry is exhausting and I cant tell you how many times i've wanted to give up, but I just love sitting down and producing, playing instruments and writing, I tried to stop to have a more simple life, I thought I wanted a normal life and a normal job but I guess life has a different plan, if you don't do it for the love and you do it to be famous, more often than not its not going to last, most of the artists out there that are successful are completely authentic, they had to go through a lot of criticism and really believe in their sound and message. Can we expect more collaborations between you two in the future? What’s next for you both through the end of 2019? 100%. This actually is not the first track I made with Kevin, I was working on another dance track with him and Jazzmyn Wolfe, another amazing singer from Canada, so I hope to finish that off probably for my debut album, me and Kevin are obsessed so I know I can send him something and he can finish it off in a day. I know he has his first album dropping in September so we are all really excited for that! As for me I have a big single with an amazing video we filmed in Wales coming out in September/October, then I really want to focus on my album, that for me was always the final goal to put out a body of work. This is definitely only the start. Stay connected: www.instagram.com/r0bradley www.facebook.com/R0Bradley www.instagram.com/kvne_official www.facebook.com/KVNE #BuzzMusic
- Prolific Rapper $Tragedy$ Drops New Album “Phase One”
Born and raised in Phoenix $Tragedy$ navigated through orphanages and foster homes throughout his childhood. During this time he was cultivating his sound and striving to show anyone who would listen that you decide your fate and decide who you are going to be in life. From lighting up stages all around the country and racking up over a quarter million streams on streaming services $Tragedy$ is ambitious with his foot on the gas and showing no signs of slowing down. “Phase One” is the latest album from powerhouse rapper and lyricist,$Tragedy$’s and we’re bumping it on repeat. The title track “Phase One” is fitting for an intro track. It offers a string of delicately passionate vocals, heavy yet mellow paced beats, and lyrics that deal directly with personal turmoil and modern life.An easy highlight from the new album is “Smoke”, a song that starts out well and continues to build in a refreshing way throughout. Even at barely past the two minute mark, there are moments of varied melody, beat refrain, and even rap, that help create something structurally intentional yet still always rhythmically entrancing and connected enough to really envelop the listener. Tracks like “Blessed” hit with a little more impact, a stronger beat that picks up the pace, yet still you get eclectically set-up sections, throughout all of which $Tragedy$ presents his dreamlike scenes and simple lines in a manner suggestive of an authentic truth and artistry. “Different” is another track from $Tragedy$ that sees the intensity rise a little, and with this comes a quietly haunting yet anthem-like track that’s perhaps one of the most memorable on the project! Worthy production meets with subtle creativity and a clear understanding of today’s hip hop landscape. “Lost in My Mind” Ft. Reno Rich follows on with a similar sense of urgency and purpose, raising the darkness and intensity, welcoming Reno Rich on board to add a touch of dynamic. Conceptually things continue to get all the more interesting and unique. $Tragedy$’s voice sounds powerful, smart and stylish yet also passionate and sincere enough to hold your attention. As the album continues, $Tragedy$ makes sure to keep things musically eclectic, allowing this to feel like a complex and consistently interesting playlist. “Game Point” FT. Sincerely Collins redirects things towards a brighter soundscape and a level of optimism. Another powerful story-line works hard to keep things real. “Change Up” Ft. Xiris then moves with a sense of melancholy and self-reflection, a poetic and deeply thoughtful song that seems perfectly well-suited to those late and sleepless nights spent lost in our own minds. A personal favorite for the mellow vibe and the honesty “Change Up” is a brilliant hit of escapism. “Stay Away” furthers the personal touch and the haunting vibe, drawing you in further and building upon that connection with the artist. It adds a level of lightness with a finely crafted and near-organic soundscape. Some brilliant lyricism strikes again, too many gems to point out as this quality is something that rings true throughout the entire album. The album comes to a close with the piano-led delicacy of “First Place”. $Tragedy$ delves back into his personal journey, his story pours through in detail, fusing scene-setting with intimate reflections on the emotional impact of certain events. $Tragedy$ keeps things unquestionably real, and that connects intensely on this record. “Phase One” brings through a conceptual playlist that features an artist showcasing a certain balance between that which is deeply personal, and that which is a little more vague and broadly accessible. The whole album will propel $Tragedy$’s career to new heights and we can’t wait to see what he delivers next. The storytelling aspects of “Phase One” have me addicted from start to finish. I think that $Tragedy$ is incredibly talented and skilled at connecting with his fans. He writes lyrics that speaks to the listeners and music for anyone to vibe to. No stranger to success, his album “Phase One” is yet another big step in the right direction for SALLYWHITE. Check out “Phase One” here and read more below in our exclusive interview below! Hi $Tragedy$! Can you start by telling us more about yourself and your upbringing into music? As a kid I was raised listening to a lot of gospel and r&b so I always wanted to be a singer coming up. I didn't really listen to much rap in my childhood because my mom didn't like violent music due to the association with my father. Later in childhood I ended up in group homes and foster care where the ability to rap was brought into question after i discovered 2 pacs better days album, that was the turning point and I really began to take on a revolutionary approach started listening to Nas and freestyling and the rest is HISTORY! Who are you musical influences? Why? 2 pac, 50 Cent, Nas, Jay-z, Drake, Royce Da 5'9, Joe Budden, Eminem, Ne-Yo, Tory Lanez, Travis Scott, Kanye West, Lil Wayne What inspires your writing? The people's belief in me an also just the drive to show the world there is more to me than just a rap song. What was the overall theme of your album “Phase One”? What do you hope your listeners take away from it? The overall feeling behind Phase One is implied in the title! It means our work is just starting we are in the first stages of a major break through over here at team Tragedy! Not just in music but in every other aspect of life as well! I hope everyone walks away from the album with the understanding that no matter who you are no one can tell you how you should live and what your fate in this world is! What’s next for $Tragedy$? An artist and producer born and raised in Austin, TX, Mr. MVP's sound is a mix of trap, hiphop, and progressive lyricism. Combining multiple styles and techniques of rapping and producing. Also a member of the hip-hop supergroup, SoopaFrendz, an all-star team of MC's, singers, and producers who have won multiple awards for best performance. “Focused” is the brand new track from artist Mr. MVP. You get that hook in your mind straight away, it stays with you, the mellow yet bouncy vibe of the music behind the vocals helps hold it there, and overall there is a cool and relaxed ambiance to the whole thing. It works really well as a single. “Focused” has a simple and effective message with an optimistic and generally positive vibe, always something we need more of in the world. The type of rap that Mr. MVP offers up is refreshing and authentic. He’s not simply mimicking other artists and is not particularly reminiscent of anyone else at all, his style is his, everything from the tone and the mellow yet deep performance style, you know who you’re listening to. The flow of the rap performance is really easy to listen to, it adds to the summertime vibe created by the music and the chorus melody, and so the whole thing is very complete sounding, every element is united, working in the same direction, setting the same scene. Rather than shouting or screaming to get your attention, Mr. MVP speaks with a calm sort of confidence and certainty that is easy to listen to and take on-board. Individuality is hugely important in independent music, and with Mr. MVP’s music you get a good mixture of this with a comforting sense of familiarity. The good news is, there’s plenty more music where that came from Mr. MVP is a dedicated artist with a whole collection of music for you to delve into. Listen to “Focused” here and read more with Mr. MVP below! Welcome to BuzzMusic Mr. MVP! How long have you been making music, and what are your main aspirations right now as an artist? I started writing poetry and raps when I was in 5th grade and I started writing songs in 6th grade. I always dabbled with different instruments as a kid and I started making beats when was 16, so pretty much most of my life. When my mother was pregnant with me, her water actually broke at a Salt N’ Peppa concert. I always joke that I’ve been trying to rock the mic since the day I was born. Tell us more about your track “Focused”. What does it mean to you? How did the beat come about? To me it's an affirmation for success. The song starts with "See it bigger make it clearer, focus." Being able to visualize where you wanna be, not letting anything get in your way when you have goal, and backing it up with the work ethic. I made this beat one night after a studio session. I was still feeling the vibe so once I got it the beat on a loop, I started flowing to it, so i kinda wrote the song and made the beat at the same time. I just kept going back and forth adding pieces to both the lyrics and the beat. What about contemporary hip hop – what are your thoughts on the genre at present, and your hopes for the future? I think it's in a great position, hip hop has come a long way and the only thing that stays constant is change. There's always good and bad music in every genre but I don't really focus on the bad stuff. To me, hip hop is an art and a sport, and rap is an acronym for rhythm and poetry. I just wanna see it continuously evolve and whoever is doing it to have that passion. I'm definitely interested to see where it is 10 years. If you could collaborate with anyone at all, past or present, who would you choose, and why? The Austinite and music lover in me wants to say Gary Clark Jr, but the lyrical and competitive side in me says Eminem. So I'd probably go with Eminem. In order to be one of the best, you have to compete with them. What’s next for Mr. MVP? I've just been recording songs and making beats so I have a project coming soon that I'm producing. I'm also a hip hop super group called Soopafrendz and we're wrapping up our debut LP, that'll be out soon also. So new music, more shows, more videos, more podcasts, and I'll probably start collaborating with other artist more as well. Catch up with Mr. MVP via his social media: Instagram Twitter #BuzzMusic
